GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS ELLA BUKOVIC AND MY NAME IS LINCOLN DRAEGER.

WE ARE MEMBERS OF THE GLENWOOD HEIGHTS STUDENT LEADER.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US HERE TONIGHT TO SHARE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL.

TO BEGIN WITH, THE STUDENTS, THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP IS REALLY FUN AND IMPORTANT TO OUR SCHOOL.

OUR FIRST OUR FIRST EVENT THIS YEAR WAS OCTOBER.

WE REACH OUT TO FAMILY, TO THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER AND ASK THEM WHAT NEEDS THEY HAD.

EVERYONE IN STUDENT LEADERSHIP MADE POSTERS TO PUT UP AROUND THE SCHOOL, LETTING OUR SCHOOL KNOW THAT WE ARE COLLECTING SOAP, INCLUDING LAUNDRY SOAP, SOME SHAMPOO AND BODY WASH AND SOCKS FOR WOMEN AND KIDS.

WE ANNOUNCED IT DURING MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS EACH DAY AND GAVE THE SCHOOL AN UPDATE ON WHAT WE HAD BROUGHT IN.

OUR GOAL WAS TO COLLECT 250 ITEMS. IN THE END, WE COLLECTED 382 ITEMS. GOOD JOB. WOW. THAT WERE DONATED TO THE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER IN OUR DISTRICT.

ANOTHER STUDENT LEADERSHIP EVENT THAT IS COMING UP NEXT MONTH IS OUR ANNUAL CANNED FOOD DRIVE.

OUR FOOD DRIVE WILL BE DECEMBER 4TH THROUGH 12TH.

ALL OF THE ITEMS WE COLLECT WILL BE DONATED TO THE NORTH COUNTY FOOD BANK.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF MAKING POSTERS FOR THE FOOD DRIVE RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE SET A GOAL OF BRINGING IN 2000 ITEMS. THE CLASS THAT BRINGS IN THE MOST ITEMS WILL WIN A DONUT PARTY, AND THE GRADE LEVEL THAT BRINGS IN THE MOST ITEMS WILL WIN AN EXTRA RECESS.

EACH MORNING LEADERSHIP WILL BE COLLECTING FOOD FROM EACH CLASSROOM AND SORTING THEM INTO BOXES BY THE GYM.

THE NEXT EVENT WE HAVE STARTED PLANNING IS OUR FIRST SPIRIT WEEK OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

THAT WILL BE THE LAST WEEK BEFORE WINTER BREAK.

ANOTHER THING THAT STUDENT LEADERSHIP MEMBERS DO AT GLENWOOD IS PICK UP TRASH OR STICKS TO HELP KEEP OUR SCHOOL CLEAN.

WE ALSO HAVE A GARDEN WHERE TEACHERS LET THEIR CLASS GO OUT WITH AN ADULT, AND WATER PLANT, OR PLANT A PLANT, OR THEY JUST SIT IN THE GARDEN AND READ A GREAT BOOK IF IT ISN'T RAINING.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT, WHAT I LIKE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL IS.

IS THE STUDENTS ARE KIND AND HELPFUL. WE HAVE GOOD TEACHERS WHO TEACH US THINGS THAT HELP MAKE OUR LIVES EASIER.

ANOTHER THING I LIKE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL IS OUR SCHOOL IS A HAPPY FAMILY THAT CARES FOR EACH OTHER AND HELPS EACH OTHER.

OUR STUDENTS ARE HARD WORKERS AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS WHEN THEY ARE DOWN.

THEN THE LAST THING I LOVE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL, FOR EXAMPLE, THE LAST THING I LOVE ABOUT OUR SCHOOL ARE THE RECESS TEACHERS BECAUSE THEY HELP US WHEN WE GET HURT.

OKAY. ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL MADE IT TO THE PLAYOFFS FOR FOOTBALL.

UNFORTUNATELY, THEY DID LOSE 17 TO 20, BUT IT WAS A CLOSE ONE.

WOW. YEAH. YEAH, THAT'S IT FOR ME, BUT FROM ITZEL, SHE SAID TRUNK OR TREAT HAPPENED AT PRAIRIE.

AND THEY COUNTED ALL THE DONATIONS. AND IT CAME OUT TO BE 19 BUBBLES, 24 SLIPPERS, 60 COLORING BOOKS AND 103 CRAYON PACKAGES.

SO THE TOTAL ITEMS FOR THAT WAS 206. THEY ALSO HAD A WINTER CARNIVAL AT PRAIRIE.

WAIT, NO, THEY'RE HAVING A WINTER CARNIVAL AT PRAIRIE ON DECEMBER 13TH, AND THEIR TOY DRIVE IS GOING TO BE STARTING SOON.

AND THEN TODAY, CAM ACADEMY ALSO HAD THIS, WAS VETERAN'S ASSEMBLY.

AND SHE SAYS THAT PRAIRIE. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL TO SEE HOW MANY PRIOR STUDENTS AT PRAIRIE WENT INTO THE MILITARY.

AND AT CAM IT WAS IT WAS JUST IT WAS NICE TO SEE ALL THE VETERANS AND TO SHOW SUPPORT TO THEM.

AND WE HAD ONE OF THEM SPEAK, AND HE WAS THE FUNNIEST GUY I'VE EVER HEARD TALK.

OKAY. HE WAS TELLING US STORIES ABOUT WHEN HE WAS A PILOT AND IT SOUNDED SO INTERESTING.

AND THEN ITZEL AND I ARE GOING TO BE VISITING PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR ANOTHER, LIKE, STUDENT SCHOOL TOUR ON THE 19TH AND THEN EXPECT, DOES THAT FALL? YEAH, THAT FALLS IN BETWEEN LIKE OUR NEXT MEETING.

SO WE'LL BE ABLE TO BRING THE DATA BACK TO YOU GUYS.

AND THEN WINTER SPORTS ARE STARTING UP NEXT WEEK.

AND LASTLY WE'RE EXCITED FOR THE WSSDA CONFERENCE COMING UP IN SEATTLE.

I'M EXCITED TO GO SOMEWHERE WITHOUT MY FAMILY, AND THE CONFERENCE.

SO GOALS, RIGHT? PRIORITIES. FOR EXAMPLE, RELIEF AND FLEXIBILITY FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS PAUSE ON NEW POLICIES AND PROVIDE FLEXIBILITY ON EXISTING ONES SO THAT SCHOOLS CAN FOCUS ON CORE ACADEMIC NEEDS.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS AN INTERESTING GOAL THAT THEY'RE HAVING THIS YEAR. IT'S HUGE.

KEEP K-12 EDUCATION FUNDING AT CURRENT AND INFLATION ADJUSTED LEVELS.

DON'T BE CUTTING US ANYMORE. RIGHT? REINVEST ANY DECLINING ENROLLMENT AMOUNTS EQUITABLY INTO THE K-12 SYSTEM.

SO THESE ARE THE PRIORITIES THEY'VE KIND OF SET UP AS THEY APPROACH THE NEW LEGISLATIVE SYSTEM.

THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION WHICH STARTS IN JANUARY.

SO IT'S COMING UP REAL SOON. OKAY. AND WASA HAS A NEW THERE'S SOMEBODY NEW IN CHARGE OF THIS.

ONE, I JUST SAW THIS ON SOCIAL MEDIA BECAUSE THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION SUPPORTS FCRC AS WELL.

AND SO I SAW THIS POST FROM ROCK SOLID THE TEEN CENTER THAT THEY DID A SOCK DRIVE FOR FCRC, AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY GREAT. THERE WAS A PICTURE OF THIS HUGE, HUGE BIN OF SOCKS.

BUT THEN WE GOT AN EMAIL FROM SCHOOLHOUSE SUPPLIES AND THERE WAS A SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE OVER THE SUMMER, PUT ON KGW, AND BATTLE GROUND IS BEING AWARDED A PORTION OF THOSE SCHOOL SUPPLIES.

SO WE'LL BE ABLE TO GO PICK THOSE UP AND PASS THOSE OUT TO STUDENTS AS THEY NEED.

AND THEN DECEMBER 2ND THEY'RE GOING TO PARTICIPATE IN GIVING TUESDAY.

AND SO THEY HAVE THAT. THEY HAVE SOME QR CODES POSTED ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

SO IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT, THEY ARE ON FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM.

DRAKE AND I MET A SECOND TIME WITHIN A FEW DAYS WITH A TEAM OF PEOPLE, A COUPLE OF PEOPLE FROM LA CENTER WHO DID SOME PROJECTS WITH REGARD TO PROPERTIES AND THINGS THAT THEY WERE REAL EXCITED ABOUT AND REAL PROUD OF, AND WE WERE PICKING THEIR BRAINS ABOUT HOW THEY GOT LIKE, STANDS LIKE THE STADIUM.

BLEACHERS. YEAH, THIS KIND OF STUFF. SO THEY'VE PROVIDED US WITH SOME INFORMATION THAT MR. DRAKE TOOK A LOT OF NOTES ON. I DON'T KNOW IF HE SHARED IT WITH YOU YET, BUT WE WILL BE MEETING AND TALKING ABOUT IT AND SYNTHESIZING IT AND SEEING HOW WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO UTILIZE IT. AND AND THEY'RE WILLING TO HELP US CONTINUE TO ENGAGE.

AND MOVING ON TO DIRECTOR'S REPORTS. THE ONLY REPORT I HAVE IS THAT WE HAVE WATCHED A CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK IN SEATTLE THAT WILL BE JOINING TOBY WITH.

AND WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT IT TOO. AND THE NEW BOARD MEMBERS.

HOPEFULLY WE'LL ALL BE GOING TO. SO THAT'LL BE EXCITING TO GET TO KNOW THEM.

I WAS CURIOUS, WE USED TO TAKE THIS TIME EVERY YEAR AND TALK ABOUT WHAT SESSIONS WE MIGHT ATTEND.

AND THERE'S A LOT MORE OFFERINGS THIS YEAR. A WIDER VARIETY FROM FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS.

THERE'S PIECES FOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS.

THERE'S PIECE, PIECES FOR SUPERINTENDENTS. THERE'S, TYPICALLY THE STUFF THAT IMPACTS LIKE A SUPERINTENDENT IS LIKE THE LAW CONFERENCE AND THAT EVERYTHING ELSE IS REALLY GEARED WAS GEARED MORE TOWARDS BOARD MEMBERS.

THERE'S EVEN SOME ON SUPERINTENDENT AND BOARD RELATIONS, THERE'S SOME ON ROBERT'S RULES, THERE'S SOME THERE.

I FEEL LIKE THEY'RE REALLY EXPANDED. IT WAS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE.

AND THERE'S A WHOLE GROUP OF SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS.

SO THE STUDENT REPS HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHOICE, WHICH IS NICE TOO.

SO I THINK IT, I THINK IT SHOULD BE A REALLY GOOD CONFERENCE.

IT'S A NEW VENUE FOR US, SO WE'LL SEE HOW THAT PART PLAYS OUT.

NOBODY KNOWS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE. SO IT'S AT THE HYATT REGENCY IN SEATTLE.

SO IN TERMS OF THE FACILITY, I THINK WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE FLYING BLIND.

BUT YEAH, IT WILL BE GOOD. AND IT'LL BE NEAT TO SEE ITZEL PRESENT AND HER FAMILY'S GOING TO COME UP AND JOIN.

SO THAT WENT REALLY WELL. THE OTHER THING, I JUST WANTED TO SEND A SHOUT OUT.

I WAS ABLE TO OBVIOUSLY THERE'S A THERE WERE A LOT OF ACTIVITIES AROUND HALLOWEEN, AND I WAS ABLE TO JOIN THE TUKES VALLEY CAMPUS AND THE PTO AND AND PUT ON THIS EVENT AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS.

THEY HAD A HARVEST FESTIVAL, THEY HAD CRAFTS, THEY HAD GAMES, THEY HAD TRUNK OR TREAT.

THEY HAD COSTUME CONTESTS, PUMPKIN CONTESTS. AND IT WAS JUST THEY DID A REALLY FABULOUS JOB FOR THEIR COMMUNITY.

SO JUST HATS OFF TO THEM. AND LIKE TOBY READ FOR ITZEL.

I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND WITH AMANDA AND LYNELL TODAY, THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY.

AND IT IS THE BEST EVENT. I THINK EVERY YEAR THEY JUST MAKE IT EVEN MORE IMPACTFUL RECOGNIZING COMMUNITY MEMBERS, PAST GRADUATES, STAFF THAT ARE VETERANS, JUST AS HEARTWARMING AND DOING A LOT OF YOUR TYPICAL, THE FLAG FOLDING, JUST A LOT OF REALLY GOOD COMPONENTS THAT HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR ARMED SERVICES AND WHAT EACH ROLE IS, IT'S JUST AMAZING.

AND LAST WEEK WE WERE ABLE TO GET UP TO YACOLT, AND THEY ALWAYS PUT ON AN AMAZING VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY AS WELL.

SO THERE'S A DIRECT CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP. SO WE HAD 68% OF OUR STUDENTS SHOWING KINDERGARTEN READINESS FOUR YEARS AGO IN TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN. AND THAT PREDICTABILITY IS IS ACCURATE WHEN IT COMES TO THIRD GRADE SBA SCORES.

I APPRECIATE THE THOUGHTFULNESS AND DEDICATION THAT THIS BOARD AND THE ADMINISTRATION OVER THE PAST YEAR HAS HAD VERY DIFFICULT DECISIONS TO MAKE, AND IN SO DOING IT HAS HELPED OUR SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO RUN.

THANK YOU. OUR SCHOOLS ARE THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS COMMUNITY, BUT IF THEY ARE, AND THEY ARE FACING INCREASED DEMANDS AT THIS TIME.

AND BECAUSE OF THESE DEMANDS, WE NEED MORE MONEY IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN THE STANDARDS THAT WE ALREADY HAVE.

THESE FUNDS ARE NOT FULLY MANDATED OR NOT FULLY GIVEN BY THE STATE.

THEREFORE, WE HAVE TO ASK FOR AN OPERATING LEVY.

THE LEVY FUNDS ARE CRITICAL TO POSITIONS AND PROGRAMS IN OUR SCHOOLS.

THEY SUPPORT CLASSROOM AIDES, TEACHERS, COUNSELORS, NURSES, AIDES, STAFF AND TRANSPORTATIONS.

THEY KEEP THE SCHOOLS RUNNING WHEN WE DON'T HAVE THE MONEY GIVEN TO US BY THE STATE.

RUNNING THE, RUNNING A LEVY IN FEBRUARY GIVES THE DISTRICT THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN OUR STANDARDS AND OUR ABILITY TO RUN DURING THE TIME. IT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE STAFF, FOR THE STAFFING.

IT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FAMILIES TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IS NEEDED.

AND IT WILL MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN MAINTAIN THE ABILITY FOR OUR FOR THE STABILITY FOR OUR STUDENTS GOING FORWARD.

I GOT INVOLVED A WHILE BACK BECAUSE OF THE OPERATING LEVY AND BECAUSE OF THE THINGS THAT WERE PRESENTED, AND I SHARED THAT WITH YOU IN OUR LAST MEETING. I APPRECIATE ALL THAT'S DONE, BUT THE STANDARDS THAT WE HAVE, THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE ARE FULLY SUPPORTED BY AN OPERATING LEVY, AND THEY CAN'T BE MAINTAINED WITHOUT IT.

AND AMONG THESE OPTIONS, I THINK THE SECOND FUNDING OPTION STRIKES THE RIGHT BALANCE BETWEEN RESPONSIBILITY BACK TO OUR VOTERS, BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE THAT GOOD EDUCATION WITHOUT ADDING EXTRAS.

A RECENT RECORDS REQUEST REVEALED THAT DIRECTOR TATE'S SUBMISSION FROM HIS PERSONAL COMPUTER WAS MISSING AT LEAST ONE BOARD RELATED COMMUNICATION, EVEN THOUGH HE SIGNED A DECLARATION SAYING ALL RESPONSIVE RECORDS WERE PROVIDED.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS SHOULD NEVER USE A PERSONAL EMAIL FOR DISTRICT BUSINESS, BECAUSE THE PUBLIC HAS NO WAY TO VERIFY WHAT'S MISSING.

AND JUST AS CONCERNING DURING A RECENT MEETING DIRECTOR JOHNSON SAID SHE COULDN'T SUPPORT THE CURRICULUM.

AT THE RETREAT, I WAS ENCOURAGED TO HEAR DISCUSSION ABOUT LISTENING TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY, BUT THAT WAS TO INCLUDE PEOPLE. SHE LIVED IN A SOCIETY THAT CRIMINALIZED HER IDENTITY AND VILIFIED HER TRUTH.

YET THROUGH ALL OF THAT, SHE DARED TO BE HERSELF.

THAT IN ITSELF WAS AN ACT OF COURAGE. AND IT ALSO REMINDS US OF THE URGENT NEED FOR COMPASSION, MENTAL HEALTH CARE, SAFETY FOR TRANSGENDER YOUTH.

ACCORDING TO NATIONAL DATA, TRANSGENDER TEENS LIKE CHARLIE FACE STAGGERING RATES OF DEPRESSION, REJECTION AND SUICIDE. BUT NONE OF IT IS INEVITABLE.

EVERY LIFE LOST IS ONE WE COULD HAVE SAVED.
