[1. Call to Order]
[00:00:03]
GOOD EVENING AND WELCOME. THIS IS THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR FEBRUARY 10TH, 2025. AND WE CALL THIS MEETING TO ORDER AT 6 P.M..
WE'LL START WITH THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.
AND NEXT, WE'LL HAVE ROLL CALL.
MADAM PRESIDENT, WE HAVE A QUORUM. THANK YOU. NEXT, WE HAVE APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA.
[4. Agenda Approval (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]
ON THE AGENDA TONIGHT, WE HAVE COMMUNICATIONS, SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES, CITIZENS COMMENTS.WE HAVE A CONSENT AGENDA WITH ITEMS A THROUGH I.
AND WE ALSO WILL HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION WITH POSSIBLE ACTION TONIGHT.
ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? I'LL MOVE THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
THERE'S BEEN THERE'S, YEAH I WAS GOING TO ASK YOU.
OKAY. THERE'S A MOTION TO APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.
THE MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0. AND NEXT IS COMMUNICATIONS.
[5. Communications]
AND THE FIRST THING ON COMMUNICATIONS IS STUDENT VOICE.SO WE'RE HAPPY TO WELCOME STUDENT BODY REPRESENTATIVES FROM LET'S SEE BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY.
AND SOME OF YOU LET'S SEE WHO WANTS TO GO FIRST.
OKAY. BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY. YAY! ALL RIGHT, I'M MATT STANFIELD. I'M THE PRINCIPAL. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US TONIGHT. SINCE WE'RE AN ONLINE SCHOOL.
VIRTUAL, THESE ARE OUR AVATARS FOR TONIGHT. SO, WE PRESENTED TONIGHT.
SO, ANYWAY, SO I'LL LET THEM INTRODUCE THEMSELVES.
HELLO. MY NAME IS ISAIAH RAMSEY. I'M IN 10TH SO THINGS I REALLY LIKE ABOUT THIS SCHOOL, ARE IT ABLE TO WE CAN, LIKE, TRAVEL AROUND AND SORRY, WE CAN, LIKE, MOVE.
WE CAN WORK AT OUR OWN PACE. WOULD THAT BE SLOWER OR FASTER? IF WE'RE BEHIND, WE CAN GET AHEAD AND STUFF. AND THE STAFF AND TEACHERS ARE REALLY NICE AND THEY REALLY ARE HELPFUL. THANK YOU. HELLO, MY NAME IS ISABELLA HUGHES.
WE HAVE ANOTHER STUDENT, LYLA FOSTER. I'M SORRY, LAYLA FOSTER, WHO IS NOT ABLE TO BE PRESENT, BUT SHE DID WRITE SOMETHING UP AND ASKED ME TO SPEAK ON HER BEHALF.
HELLO, I AM LAYLA FOSTER FROM BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY.
I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND THIS MEETING TODAY, BUT I AM SENDING THIS RESPONSE TO REPRESENT MY SCHOOL.
MY SCHOOL IS AN ONLINE PLATFORM WITH INSTRUCTIONS ADJUSTED TO THE STUDENT'S NEEDS.
EVEN WITHOUT A TEACHER TO WALK THEM THROUGH IT IN PERSON ALL THE TIME, THE STUDENTS CAN REWIND AND REWATCH ANYTHING THEY WANT FROM THE LESSONS, LETTING THEM LEARN AT THEIR OWN PACE. PLUS, THEY CAN WORK AT THEIR COURSES, ON THEIR OWN TIME AND ON THE GO.
WHILE WE MAY NOT HAVE AS MUCH SOCIAL INTERACTION AS OTHER SCHOOLS AND WITH OTHER STUDENTS, WE CAN JOIN A MEETING ON THURSDAYS OR MEET WITH OTHER STUDENTS ON TUESDAYS.
STUDENTS CAN USE THIS FLEXIBILITY TO CHOOSE HOW THEIR SOCIAL TIME OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL IS SPENT.
THE TEACHERS RESPOND SOON AFTER YOU MESSAGE THEM AND CHECK EMAILS OFTEN.
THERE ARE ALSO TIMES WHERE I AM SICK AND WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON SCHOOL DAYS,
[00:05:01]
BUT I AM ABLE TO CONTINUE MY WORK IN ONLINE CLASSES AND KEEP MY ATTENDANCE BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE STUDENT IN IN-PERSON CLASSES.BECAUSE I AM UNABLE. BECAUSE I AM ABLE TO KEEP UP ON LESSONS AND WORK AT A STEADY PACE.
THIS IS WHY I BELIEVE THAT BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY IS A GREAT ALTERNATIVE FOR ANY OTHER IN-SCHOOL PERSON, AND FOR THE KIND OF STUDENT WHO LIKES WHO IS LIKE ME AND LIKES TO LEARN AT THEIR OWN PACE.
I WAS ABLE TO FINISH ALL MY CLASSES WITHIN THE FIRST SEMESTER, AND NOW HAVE HAD THIS YEAR TO FIND WHAT I LIKE AND A JOB AS WELL AS I AM LEARNING TO BECOME A DSP FOR THE STATE TO TAKE CARE OF SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN.
ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL HAS ALLOWED ME TO PLAY SPORTS.
I AM NOW ONE OF THE DISTRICT ALL TIME PODIUM BOWLERS, AS WELL AS VARSITY CAPTAIN AND AS WELL AS VARSITY SOFTBALL PLAYER. COOL. IT HAS ALLOWED ME THE FREEDOM TO GO ON VACATION AS WELL AS KEEP UP WITH SCHOOL.
I ALSO HAVE MAINTAINED A 4.0 IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CAREER.
THANK YOU. FANTASTIC. THAT'S FANTASTIC. ISAIAH, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY? I'VE BEEN HERE SINCE NINTH, NINTH GRADE. WOW.
GOOD FOR YOU. YEAH. YEAH. SO I'M JUST CURIOUS.
I MEAN, I'M FASCINATED BY ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU MANAGE TO DO AND ALL THE CONNECTIONS YOU MANAGE TO MAKE WITH ALL THE OTHER SCHOOLS, SCHOOLING YOU'RE DOING AND EVERYTHING. SO WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GO TO A VIRTUAL ACADEMY? IS IT JUST THE FLEXIBILITY? SO WHEN I FIRST STARTED, I STARTED IN RIVER HOMELINK.
I WAS HOMESCHOOLED TILL EIGHTH GRADE. THAT DID NOT WORK FOR MY FAMILY ANYMORE.
SO THAT'S HOW I GOT STARTED ON THAT. BUT I FOUND THAT I LOVED ONLINE SCHOOL A LOT MORE BECAUSE I WAS ABLE TO GO AHEAD, WHICH IF A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ME, I LIKE GOING AHEAD AND I DO NOT LIKE ATTENDING SCHOOL FOR HOURS ON END.
I LIKE GETTING IT DONE AND LEARNING IT AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE SO I CAN MOVE ON.
VERY GOOD. ISAIAH, I'D LIKE TO HEAR THE SAME RESPONSE FROM YOU.
I MEAN, I MEAN THE SAME QUESTION FOR YOU. WHAT MADE YOU ATTRACTED TO WHAT? HOW DOES BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY FIT YOU BETTER? IT'S KIND OF SIMILAR BECAUSE I NEVER REALLY DID TOO WELL IN IN-PERSON CLASS.
I FEEL LIKE IT'S A LOT EASIER TO LEARN WHEN ON WORKING AT MY OWN MY OWN PACE.
I FEEL LIKE IT'S EASIER TO WORK IN MY OWN PACE THAN.
DO EITHER OF YOU TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GOING INTO BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY EVER? YEAH, I GO IN THERE. YOU GO. IN ALL THE TIME.
NOT ALL THE TIME. I GO IN THERE OCCASIONALLY. YEAH.
YEAH. IT'S REALLY GREAT THAT WE HAVE THESE ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF LEARNING. AND I'M GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY MOVING AHEAD, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE I ALWAYS WORRY LIKE, OH, THESE SCENARIOS, LIKE I DID ONLINE IN COLLEGE SOME. AND I'M LIKE, OH, THIS IS BRUTAL. YOU KNOW, I REALLY NEED TO SIT WITH SOMEONE FOR SOME STRUCTURE. BUT, YOU KNOW, SO THAT'S ALWAYS MY WHAT I ALWAYS REFER BACK TO. BUT TO KNOW THAT PEOPLE ARE MOVING AHEAD AND GETTING IT DONE AT THEIR OWN PACE AND GRADUATING EARLY OR GETTING DONE EARLIER SO YOU CAN GO GET A JOB AND DO WHATEVER ELSE YOU'VE GOT PLANNED.
I THINK THAT'S FANTASTIC, AND I'M GLAD THAT IT'S WORKING BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE HAD HOPED. SO IT SHOWS A LOT OF SELF-MOTIVATION, SELF-DIRECTION. YOU GUYS SHOULD BE REALLY PROUD OF YOURSELF.
IT TAKES A LOT OF MATURITY TO BE ABLE TO DO WHAT YOU'RE DOING.
SO HATS OFF TO YOU AND KUDOS AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
YES. THANK YOU. ANYTHING ELSE? THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
THANK YOU, MA'AM. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND FROM SUMMIT VIEW WE HAVE STUDENTS FROM SUMMIT VIEW.
THANK YOU, MR. GALLINA. OH, NO. GOOD EVENING.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. GOOD EVENING. CHEERING OUR STUDENTS TONIGHT.
I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO LET THE STUDENTS DO THIS ON THEIR OWN.
I AM A SENIOR AND I HAVE BEEN GOING FOR THREE YEARS.
SO SHOULD YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF NOW? THEN WE CAN ALL OPEN UP FOR US.
HELLO, I'M ALIYA. I'M A SOPHOMORE AT SUMMIT VIEW AND I'VE BEEN GOING SINCE.
[00:10:08]
HELLO. MY NAME IS VOICE CRACK, MY GOD, MY NAME IS VALERIE NIKIFOROV.I AM THE SERGEANT IN ARMS OF OUR SCHOOL, AND I AM A JUNIOR, AND I HAVE BEEN GOING HERE SINCE, I BELIEVE FRESHMAN. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. SO I HAVE PREPARED SOME STUFF TO TALK ABOUT MAINLY THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN STUDENTS AND TEACHERS AND WHAT IT'S LIKE AT SUMMIT VIEW.
PRIMARILY, THE TEACHER AND STUDENT RELATIONSHIP IS THAT EVERYBODY IS ABLE TO TALK TO THEIR TEACHERS INDIVIDUALLY BECAUSE YOU GO IN AND YOU JUST TALK TO EACH OF THE TEACHERS.
YOU HAVE LIKE FOUR CLASSES USUALLY, AND FOUR TEACHERS, ONE FOR EACH.
AND YOU DO IT BY YOURSELF, BY JUST GOING IN AND TALKING TO THEM.
THERE'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE TALKING TO THEM WITH OTHER PEOPLE.
THEY'RE TALKING TO YOU. YOU CAN HAVE PERSONAL CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM, TALK TO THEM ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH THE WORK, LIKE IF YOU WANT TO LOWER SOME OF THE STUFF, LIKE SKIP PARTS THAT YOU'RE STRUGGLING WITH OR HAVE HELP WITH, THAT THEY CAN HELP YOU. AND THEN THE BEST PART IS YOU WORK AT YOUR OWN PACE.
LIKE I HAVE BEEN A SENIOR FOR LIKE THREE YEARS, MAINLY DUE TO LIKE COVID MESSING UP STUFF.
SO I WENT TO THERE SOON AFTER EVERYTHING STARTED GETTING BACK TO NORMAL, WHICH WAS LIKE THREE ISH YEARS AGO AND I WAS ABLE TO WORK ON MY OWN PACE, GET STUFF DONE AND I WILL HOPEFULLY GRADUATE THIS YEAR.
THAT'S AWESOME. GOOD. GOOD JOB. THANK YOU, ZACH.
HELLO. TODAY I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT THE PROJECTS THAT WE DO WITH ASB.
SO RECENTLY WE HOSTED A HALLOWEEN AND CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THE STUDENTS.
AND NEXT WEEK WE'LL BE DOING A VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY.
AND OUR SCHOOL ALSO ORGANIZES A LOT OF SPIRIT WEEKS FOR THE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS.
AND IN MAY WE'LL BE HOSTING ANOTHER BLOOD DRIVE AND THE [INAUDIBLE] DRIVE.
WE JUST DID. AND OUR CLASS IS ORGANIZING VARIOUS APPRECIATION WEEKS FOR THE STAFF IN THE NEXT UPCOMING WEEKS, INCLUDING FOR THE PRINCIPAL, TEACHER, COUNSELORS, AND STAFF MEMBERS.
SO WE HAVE LOTS OF COOL PROJECTS THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING.
THANK YOU. SO I'M JUST GOING TO BE LIKE TALKING A BIT ABOUT ATTENDANCE AND ENROLLMENT. SO AS OF 2024 AND 2025, WELL, AS OF NOW WE HAVE HAD INCREASING AMOUNTS OF STUDENTS ENROLLING HERE, AND WE HAVE ACTUALLY HAD FOUR STUDENTS GRADUATE FROM OPEN DOORS AND 11 FROM SUMMIT VIEW SO FAR THIS YEAR. YEAH. YES. OH VERY GOOD.
QUESTIONS. IF THERE IS SOMETHING YOU COULD IMPROVE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE, WHAT WOULD IT BE? AND IT'S OKAY TO SAY NOTHING. YEAH. YOUR PRINCIPLES HERE.
SO. I DON'T HAVE A QUESTION. I'LL MAKE A COMMENT.
SOMEBODY I WAS TALKING TO RECENTLY YOU KNOW, REMINDED ME, WELL, WE HEAR ALL THESE COMPLAINTS AND PROBLEMS AND STUFF GOING ON, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU COMING AND SHARING WITH US.
GOOD STUFF. THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR THINKING THROUGH WHAT YOU WANTED TO SAY.
AND THANK YOU FOR HOW POSITIVE IT IS. AND IT'S NICE TO HEAR THAT THERE'S GOOD STUFF GOING ON.
WHAT'S THE MOST CHALLENGING? WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE FORMAT THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SCHOOL? TO ME IT'S PROCRASTINATION SINCE FOR ALL OF THIS, YOU BASICALLY JUST TAKE YOUR WORK HOME AND DO IT AT HOME LIKE THERE'S NOTHING MAKING YOU REALLY DO IT OTHER THAN YOUR OWN SELF. SO IF YOU DON'T DO IT.
YEAH. YEAH. IT'S REALLY JUST YOU HAVE TO DO IT.
WHICH IS A PROBLEM. YES. FOR SOME OF US. FOR MANY OF US.
[00:15:05]
BECAUSE SPECIFICALLY THURSDAY'S MORE KIDS COME IN.AND SO SOMETIMES YOU JUST WALK IN AND ALL THE SEATS ARE TAKEN UP AND YOU'RE LIKE DAMN IT.
YEAH. AND WHAT WAS THE SECOND QUESTION? THAT'S A GOOD THOUGHT.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT. THE CHALLENGING PART.
CHALLENGE? YEAH. WHAT'S THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THAT FORMAT? THE MOST CHALLENGING PART FOR ME IS ACTUALLY SO HERE ARE THE LIKE SORT OF A BIT WITH PROCRASTINATION, BUT NOT REALLY IF YOU'RE MORE OF LIKE A LIKE IN PERSON LEARNER, FOR EXAMPLE, LIKE CERTAIN SUBJECTS, YOU NEED LIKE SOMEONE TO ACTUALLY, LIKE KIND OF STEP BY STEP TEACH YOU LIKE THAT CERTAIN TYPE. IT CAN BE SUPER EMBARRASSING TO COME TO THE TEACHER TO LIKE, ASK FOR HELP.
LIKE, OH, I NEED TO LIKE, SIT THROUGH THIS AND GO THROUGH IT.
SPECIFICALLY FOR ME, WITH ALGEBRA, IT'S VERY HARD FOR ME TO GO TO MY TEACHER AND SAY, I NEED HELP.
BUT THE TEACHERS ARE VERY WELCOMING AND THEY ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO ASSIST.
AND SO YEAH, I'M GETTING THROUGH THAT. SO THAT'S COOL.
WELL, YOU'RE NOT ALONE. ON THE ALGEBRA FRONT, I HEARD PEOPLE SCREAMING IN THE BACK.
OH, ALGEBRA. WHAT'S A SERGEANT AT ARMS? WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? BASICALLY, WHAT I DO IS BEFORE ASB MEETINGS, LIKE, I KIND OF JUST, LIKE, HELP MAKE IT FEEL MORE WELCOMING.
I TALK TO STUDENTS I LIKE, GET THEM TO OPEN UP MORE.
GOTCHA. IT'S BASICALLY JUST LIKE KEEPING THINGS HOMEY AROUND.
LIKE, AROUND THE SCHOOL AND STUFF. YEAH, I WAS THINKING ROTHESAY. I KNOW THAT'S WHERE MY BRAIN WENT.
SO I WAS LIKE, WHOA. ANYTHING I WOULD SAY FOR ME, THE MOST CHALLENGING THING IS THAT YOU CAN ONLY GO ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK.
AND LIKE VALERIE SAID, IT CAN BE HARD IF YOU'RE AN IN PERSON LEARNER AND YOU NEED HELP WITH CLASSES EVERY DAY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, LIKE ALGEBRA ESPECIALLY. BUT OTHER THAN THAT, IT FOR ME IT'S BEEN PRETTY GOOD.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING WITH US TONIGHT.
YEAH. NICE JOB. SOUNDS LIKE MR. PALIN IS BUCKING FOR A BIGGER BUILDING OVER HERE. YEAH. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ELIZABETH MCALEER.
MCALEER. AND I HEARD THAT YOU ARE GOING TO COME AND PERFORM FOR US YOUR POEM.
OH. VERY COOL. A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND. SURE.
YEAH. HI, I'M HEATHER SMITHLINE FROM BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND I'M HERE WITH ELIZABETH MCALEER, WHO'S OUR SCHOOL POETRY OUT LOUD CHAMPION FOR THIS YEAR.
AND POETRY OUT LOUD IS A NATIONAL CONTEST WHERE KIDS MEMORIZE PUBLISHED POEMS AND RECITE THEM FIRST IN FRONT OF THEIR CLASS AND THEN IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL IF THEY WIN THE CLASS COMPETITION. AND ELIZABETH WON OUR SCHOOL.
YAY! EXCELLENT. WON OUR SCHOOL COMPETITION AND THEN WENT ON TO ON TO REGIONALS IN OLYMPIA.
OLYMPIA AND WON THAT. SO SHE'S GOING TO STATE NEXT MONTH AND WILL BE PERFORMING IN TACOMA.
SO SHE HAS MEMORIZED THREE POEMS, AND SHE'S GOING TO RECITE TWO OF THEM TONIGHT.
AND SHE'S FABULOUS. AND YOU'RE FABULOUS TOO. OH, YEAH.
WHERE WOULD IT BE BEST THAT I STAND RIGHT WHERE YOU'RE AT? OKAY, PERFECT. SO I HAVE TWO POEMS PREPARED. I'M GOING TO START WITH ONE TITLED SHIPS THAT PASS IN THE NIGHT BY PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR.
OUT IN THE SKY. THE GREAT DARK CLOUDS ARE MASSING.
I LOOK FAR OUT INTO THE PREGNANT NIGHT. WHERE I CAN HEAR A SOLEMN, BOOMING GUN.
AND CATCH THE GLEAMING OF A RANDOM LIGHT THAT TELLS ME THAT THE SHIP I SEEK IS PASSING.
PASSING MY TEARFUL EYES. MY SOUL'S DEEP HURT ARE GLANCING.
FOR I WOULD HAIL AND CHECK THAT SHIP OF SHIPS.
I STRETCH MY HANDS, IMPLORING CRY ALOUD. MY VOICE FALLS DEAD, A FOOT FROM MINE OWN LIPS.
AND BUT ITS GHOST DOTH REACH THAT VESSEL. PASSING, PASSING.
O EARTH, O SKY, O OCEAN, BOTH SURPASSING O HEART OF MINE, O SOUL THAT DREADS THE DARK.
IS THERE NO HOPE FOR ME? IS THERE NO WAY THAT I MAY SIGHT AND CHECK THAT SPEEDING BARK.
WHICH OUT OF SIGHT AND SOUND IS PASSING. PASSING.
[00:20:04]
SO THAT'S A NEWER ONE THAT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON. I'VE HAD THAT ONE FOR, I THINK, A LITTLE OVER A WEEK NOW, BUT I HAVE ONE THAT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON.MAYBE A LITTLE MORE THAN MORE THAN THAT. WE'LL CALL IT MORE THAN THAT.
AND THAT ONE IS CALLED A WING AND A PRAYER BY BETH ANN FENNELLY.
WE THOUGHT THE BIRDS WERE SINGING LOUDER. WE WERE ALMOST CERTAIN THEY WERE.
DANG, YOU HEAR THOSE BIRDS? DON'T THEY SOUND LOUD? WE SHOUTED TO THE NEIGHBOR, AND FROM BEHIND HER MASK SHE AGREED.
THE BIRDS ARE LOUDER THIS SPRING. THIS SUMMER? I'VE NEVER HEARD SUCH LOUD BIRDS LISTEN TO THEM SING, BUT THE BIRDS AREN'T SINGING LOUDER.
IN FACT, THE OPPOSITE. ORNITHOLOGISTS HAVE RECORDED LOWER DECIBEL LEVELS OF BIRDSONG IN THE ABSENCE OF NOISE POLLUTION OR PLANES OVERHEAD, OR CARS RUSHING PAST WITH THEIR MOTORS AND HORNS, OUR BARS LEAKING MUSIC ONTO THE STREET CORNERS.
THE BIRDS DON'T NEED TO SHOUT. SO WHY ARE WE HEARING BIRDSONG NOW WHEN IT IS QUIETER? BECAUSE WE NEED IT MORE POETRY IN THE IN THE PANDEMIC.
BIRDSONG THAT WAS THERE ALL ALONG. THANK YOU.
FANTASTIC. THANK YOU. ANY QUESTIONS? DONE. YOU SAID YOU ONLY BEEN WORKING ON THIS.
THE FIRST ONE FOR A WEEK. IS THAT. DID YOU DO DIFFERENT ONES WHEN YOU WON A LOCAL AND REGIONAL? SO WHEN WE DO THE SCHOOL COMPETITION, WE JUST START WITH ONE AND THEN REGIONAL, YOU HAVE TO MEMORIZE ANOTHER ONE. AND THEN FOR STATE YOU NEED A THIRD. SO THEY JUST KIND OF BUILD ON EACH OTHER. SO THAT ONE YOU'RE STILL WORKING ON. THE THIRD ONE THAT'S FOR STATE? OKAY. NO PREVIEWS.
NO THAT WAS THE FIRST ONE THAT I DID. OH WOW.
DO THEY GIVE YOU A TOPIC OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT OR IT'S JUST WHATEVER YOU WANT? SO THE POETRY OUT LOUD ANTHOLOGY IS THERE'S LIKE A LOT OF POEMS THAT WE GET TO PICK FROM, BUT WE CAN ONLY PICK THOSE. SO IF YOU HAVE ONE THAT YOU KNEW PREVIOUSLY AND ISN'T ON THERE, YOU CAN'T DO THAT ONE, UNFORTUNATELY. I LOVE HOW YOU DO THE POEMS THERE.
I COULD CLOSE MY EYES AND LISTEN. IT'S JUST REALLY FASCINATING.
IT'S LIKE I CAN VISUALIZE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.
THE OTHER THING IS, DO YOU LOVE TO WRITE POETRY? I WRITE SOME POETRY. I, I KIND OF LIKE IT, BUT I DON'T REALLY LIKE LOOKING BACK AND GOING, OH, I DON'T REALLY. MAYBE NOT, BUT I LIKE DOING IT.
I DON'T LIKE READING IT OR I DON'T LIKE READING MY OWN.
SO YEAH. BUT DIDN'T YOU DO THIS LAST YEAR, TOO? I WAS HERE LAST YEAR. YEAH I KNOW. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME AGAIN.
IT'S SO GREAT TO HAVE YOU BACK. HOW LONG DO YOU HOLD? LIKE WHEN YOU MEMORIZE A POEM. HOW LONG DO YOU HOLD ON TO IT? COULD YOU GO BACK AND REMEMBER ONES THAT YOU'VE MEMORIZED, YOU KNOW, A YEAR OR TWO YEARS AGO? AND DO YOU KIND OF KEEP AN ANTHOLOGY IN YOUR HEAD? I GUESS THEY ALL STAY WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT, BUT SOME THEY GO AWAY OVER TIME, OF COURSE.
YEAH. AND IT DEPENDS HOW LONG I GOT TO HANG ON TO THEM.
SO WHEN I MEMORIZED FRESHMAN YEAR, I HAVE BEEN HANGING ON TO. BUT THAT'S INTENTIONAL FOR ME.
SO. OKAY. OKAY. THAT'S WONDERFUL. WONDERFUL. WELL, WE WISH YOU THE BEST.
YEAH. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. YES. THANK YOU.
GOOD LUCK. [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU. MISS SMITHLINE, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO.
MISS SMITHLINE, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING AGAIN WITH YOUR STUDENT.
AND ANY OTHER STUDENTS OUT THERE THAT WERE HOPING TO SPEAK TO US THIS EVENING.
OKAY. JULIA AND ITZEL, WHAT DO YOU HAVE FOR US? FIRST OKAY. WE'RE CHANGING IT UP. I'M STARTING THIS TIME, SO GIVE ME A BREAK.
JULIA'S ALWAYS STARTING, SO IT'S MY TURN THIS TIME.
IT'S VERY KIND OF SLOW WHEN IT COMES TO EVENTS.
SO IT'S KIND OF TRYING TO GET THE HANG OF IT.
AND THEN ALSO LIKE PEOPLE MOVE AROUND IN THEIR CLASSES AND MEET NEW PEOPLE AND MEET NEW TEACHERS.
SO IT'S KIND OF SLOW TOWARDS THE BEGINNING. WE TRY TO GIVE THE STUDENTS LIKE A WAY TO KIND OF FIT INTO THEIR CLASSES AND MAKE SURE THEY LIKE THEIR CLASSES, AND IF THERE'S ANY ALTERCATIONS WITH THEIR CLASSES THAT THEY NEED TO FIX, WE GIVE THEM THAT TIME TO.
BUT MY FIRST THING I WANT TO SAY IS TALK ABOUT B OYS BASKETBALL.
WE BEAT MOUNTAIN VIEW 60 TO 55, SO WE ARE LEAGUE CHAMPIONS.
[00:25:07]
A LOT OF A LOT LIKE BOTH MOUNTAIN VIEW AND PRAIRIE SIDES WERE VERY FILLED BECAUSE OF THE AMOUNT OF TENSION FROM THE LAST GAME.SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO SEE. AND THEN I ALSO WANTED TO TALK ABOUT UNIFIED BASKETBALL.
SO I DO HAVE I DO KNOW A PERSON WHO IS ONE OF THE PARTNERS FOR UNIFIED BASKETBALL.
SO SHE SENT ME A LITTLE SCRIPT THAT SHE WANTED ME TO SAY.
WE UNFORTUNATELY LOST BY THREE, BUT THE TEAM MORALE WASN'T LOW.
THE TEAM WAS ABLE TO SECURE A VICTORY, PLACING THIRD OVERALL IN THE A TEAM DIVISION.
SO I KNOW A LOT OF THE UNIFIED KIDS REALLY LIKE THAT, SEEING THAT SUPPORT FROM THE SCHOOL, AND THEY HAD A LOT OF FUN EVEN THOUGH WE LOST OUR RIVALS.
I HEARD THAT A LOT OF THE UNIFIED I KNOW A LOT OF THE UNIFIED KIDS REALLY HAD A LOT OF FUN, AND A LOT OF THE PARTNERS ALSO HAD A LOT OF FUN, BECAUSE I KNOW SOME OF THE PARTNERS FOR OUR UNIFIED, IT WAS THEIR FIRST YEAR, LIKE CLARA, WHICH IS THE ONE THAT SENT ME HER SUMMARY, BUT SHE SAID THAT IT WAS REALLY FUN AND THAT IT WAS REALLY FUN TO ALSO PLAY.
BUT SHE ALSO CHEERS. SO SHE GOT TO CHEER FOR THE OTHER TEAMS AS WELL AS PLAY WITH THE A TEAM.
AND THEN I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT ASB AND EVERYTHING.
SORRY, I KNOW I'M A LITTLE LATE GETTING BACK TO IT, BUT BECAUSE VALENTINE'S DAY IS COMING UP, ASB IS WRITING VALENTINE'S DAY CARDS TO THE SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES AS WELL AS THE PRESCHOOL.
WE HAVE THEIR WE ARE STARTING UP OUR COMMITTEES WITH EVENTS THAT ARE COMING UP, SUCH AS SPRING FLING, WHICH IS IN MARCH 15TH, I BELIEVE, AND THEN ALSO A FEW OTHER RIVALRY EVENTS THAT WE ARE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER.
SO THOSE ONES ARE REALLY EXCITING. WE JUST HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERYTHING AND MAKE SURE WE ARE TAKING ALL THE RIGHT STEPS TO HAVE THOSE GO THROUGH, AND THEN WE ARE ALSO PILOTING A NEW SEO CURRICULUM.
SO I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN WE ARE PILOTING KIND OF THE SEL CURRICULUM, THAT THE STUDENTS KNOW WHAT THE REASONING IS FOR IT, BECAUSE I KNOW A LOT OF STUDENTS KIND OF WERE LIKE, OH, IT'S KIND OF BORING OR THEY DON'T, THEY DON'T REALLY HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHY WE WERE DOING IT OR WHAT WAS THE REASONING. SO MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE ALSO COMMUNICATING TO THE STUDENTS OF THE REASON BEHIND THE SEL CURRICULUM IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE ONE OF MY TEACHERS WENT REALLY INTO DEPTH OF WHY THE SEO CURRICULUM, WHY WE WERE DOING IT, AND THAT CLASS WAS SUPER SUCCESSFUL.
ALL THE KIDS PLAYED IT, AND TODAY WAS THE FIRST DAY THAT IN ONE OF MY CLASSES, WE PILOTED A NEW SEO CURRICULUM, AND THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT A LOT OF KIDS TALKED TO A LOT OF NEW PEOPLE.
ALL OF THESE OTHER THINGS. BUT TODAY WAS THE FIRST DAY THAT KIDS THAT NEVER TALKED TO EACH OTHER.
SO AN ATHLETE VERSUS A KID WHO IS IN REALLY SIMPLE LIKE CHESS CLUB AND STUFF LIKE THAT, THEY CAME TOGETHER, THEY TALKED AND THEY HAD GREAT CONVERSATIONS.
IT WAS SUPER GOOD TO SEE. AND I KNOW A LOT OF THE TEACHERS, THE ADVISORS, WE HAVE REALLY, REALLY LIKED IT. AND I ALSO LIKED IT BECAUSE I GOT TO TALK TO NEW PEOPLE AND KIND OF HAD LIKE, I KNOW ONE OF THE GIRLS THAT I TALKED TO SHE RIDES THE BUS AND I'M REALLY BAD AT WAKING UP IN THE MORNING TO GO TO FIRST PERIOD.
SO SHE'S KIND OF MY MOTIVATION BECAUSE I TOLD HER THAT I WOULD PICK HER UP BEFORE SCHOOL TO TAKE HER TO SCHOOL, SO SHE WOULDN'T NEED TO RIDE THE BUS ALL THE TIME, AND THAT'S FOR ME, SO I CAN WAKE UP EARLY AND MAKE IT ON TIME AND NOT GET NO TARDIES.
SO SHE'S MY MOTIVATION FOR THAT. AND ALSO, STUDENTS ARE KIND OF FORECASTING FOR THEIR YEAR COMING, I KNOW I AM, AND I KNOW A LOT OF KIDS ARE KIND OF TRYING TO GET THE GOOD CLASSES AND EVERYTHING.
SO I KNOW A LOT OF FALCON SPORTS, THEY'VE BEEN USING THAT.
AND THEN LAST THING FROM MY SIDE THAT KIND OF BRINGS IN JULIA ME AND JULIA, AS YOU GUYS KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN WE DO OUR OWN TOURS AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND THE HIGH SCHOOLS, AND IT'S BEEN REALLY GOOD.
[00:30:01]
WE SEE THEM DO THIS PRESENTATION TALKING ABOUT A LOT OF THE GREAT THINGS AND A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT THEY ARE WORKING HARD ON, WHICH IS SUPER GREAT. BUT WHEN WE DO GO TO THE SCHOOLS, WE KIND OF SOMETIMES HEAR A DIFFERENT STORY WHEN IT COMES TO SOME THINGS ARE BEING OVERLOOKED BECAUSE THEY WANT THE THINGS THAT ARE LOOK, ARE GOING GREAT TO BE SHADOWING THE THINGS THAT MAYBE NEED A LITTLE WORK ON.OKAY. AND NOW I AM GOING TO GO IN MORE INTO SPECIFICS.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT ITZEL AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT FOR A WHILE. AND WE I DO WANT TO MAKE IT REALLY CLEAR, LIKE WE'RE NOT LIKE WE'RE NOT TRYING TO LIKE TRASH ON, YOU KNOW, STAFF OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
I DO THINK ALSO THAT SOMETIMES WE HEAR WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR AND WE SAY WHAT WE WANT TO BE TRUE.
AND ONE THING THAT WE HAVE KNOWN IS THAT A LOT OF OUR OF OUR SCHOOLS IS LIKE STAFF WILL TELL US ONE THING, THIS IS GOING REALLY WELL. WE WILL TALK TO STUDENTS A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER.
THIS IS NOT GOING WELL. AND SO A COUPLE EXAMPLES ARE PHONE POLICIES.
WE'LL HEAR FROM ADMIN, WE'LL HEAR FROM MAYBE TEACHERS AND STAFF MEMBERS.
THE RESPONSES HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT IN TERMS OF THEIR LIKE STUDENTS ARE ALSO A LOT MORE HONEST.
THEY'RE A LOT MORE WILLING TO POINT OUT ISSUES BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES EXPERIENCING THESE THINGS.
SO SOME TEACHERS ARE REALLY LAX ABOUT THE PHONE POLICY.
OTHER TEACHERS HEAR A PHONE BUZZ AND THEY WANT TO TAKE IT.
AND ANOTHER IS SEL CENTERS, AND ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS AND SEL CENTERS ARE GREAT.
AND A LOT OF THE STUDENTS WE'VE TALKED TO, LIKE WE WERE JUST AT WE WERE JUST AT WARREN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND LITERALLY THREE STUDENTS HAD BEEN TO THE SEL CENTER, AND ONLY ONE OF THEM HAD ACTUALLY BEEN THERE VOLUNTARILY.
AND IT'S IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT THESE THINGS JUST BECAUSE WE HEAR WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR.
AND IT WOULD BE AMAZING IF EVERY STUDENT KNEW ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THE ACL CENTER, WHERE THEY CAN GO AND GET A SCHEDULED BREAK, WHERE THEY CAN GO AND FIND SUPPORT FOR ISSUES OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL, LEARN HOW TO REGULATE THEMSELVES INSIDE OF SCHOOL. BUT THE REALITY IS THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT THESE THINGS. THEY'RE NOT AWARE. OR MAYBE IT'S NOT WORKING THE WAY WE THINK IT IS. AND JUST IN GENERAL, LIKE PREVENTION, INTERVENTION AND ALSO KIND OF TYING INTO LIKE REFERRALS IS A BIG ONE.
SOMETHING TO REALLY POINT OUT IS REFERRALS DO NOT WORK AS WELL AS YOU THINK REFERRALS WORK.
I THINK IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO POINT THAT OUT BECAUSE REFERRALS DON'T ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING TO A STUDENT. THEY GET SOMETHING ON THEIR, YOU KNOW, IT GOES ON RECORD. YEAH, SURE. THEY'RE NEVER GOING TO SEE IT AGAIN.
REFERRALS DON'T DO ANYTHING FOR THEM. AND IT'S JUST THINGS LIKE THIS WHERE IT'S IMPORTANT, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO POINT OUT THAT THERE ARE DISCREPANCIES BECAUSE STAFF ARE ADULTS AND THEY ARE NOT STUDENTS, AND STUDENTS ARE ALSO NOT ADULTS. SO IT CAN BE REALLY HARD TO SEE EYE TO EYE THERE.
AND I THINK WHEN IT COMES TO STAFF SPEAKING TO STUDENTS EXPERIENCES, IT CAN BE IT CAN INCONSISTENT BECAUSE THEY MIGHT NOT ACTUALLY SEE WHAT'S GOING ON BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT KIDS.
I MEAN, I THINK WE ALL KNOW THAT I DO THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO POINT THAT OUT.
AND AGAIN, I DON'T THINK THIS IS LIKE, THIS IS SO WRONG.
THIS IS SO BAD. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. I THINK IT'S JUST SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT OF HOW CAN WE STRENGTHEN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STAFF AND STUDENTS SO THAT STAFF ACTUALLY HAVE AN ACCURATE TEMPERATURE OF THE RESPONSE OF STUDENTS? BECAUSE QUANTITATIVE DATA OF HOW MANY REFERRALS OR HOW MANY TARDIES OR HOW MANY, WHATEVER IS NOT ENOUGH BECAUSE STUDENTS WILL GET THAT AND IT GOES ON THEM AND THEY DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. THEY THINK ABOUT HOW THIS MADE THEM FEEL. THEY THINK ABOUT IF THIS ACTUALLY WORKED. THEY THINK ABOUT IF STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY STILL SNEAKING THEIR PHONES AND ARE JUST FINDING BETTER WAYS TO BE SNEAKY ABOUT IT THINGS LIKE THAT.
SO THAT'S THAT. WE'D LOVE TO HAVE THAT CONVERSATION MORE LATER.
BUT IN TERMS OF UPDATES, THE FUN STUDENT STUFF I ACTUALLY DON'T REALLY HAVE ANYTHING FOR RIVER HOMELINK BECAUSE WE'RE KIND OF IN THIS LIMBO WHERE WE'RE JUST KIND OF DOING SCHOOL. WE DON'T HAVE MANY EVENTS. WE DID HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT LAST FRIDAY ON THE SEVENTH.
I ACTUALLY COULD NOT MAKE IT, AND NOBODY FROM ASB UPDATED ME.
BUT NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS. I'M SURE IT WENT VERY WELL.
[00:35:03]
SO I'M SURE THAT WAS GREAT. MADER JOINED US. IT WAS AWESOME.AND AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, THE UNIFIED BASKETBALL TEAM QUALIFIED FOR STATE.
AND SO THEY'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT. I COULDN'T FIND WHAT DAY THEY'RE COMPETING.
SO LET'S HOPE AND PRAY. AND I DO KNOW FROM BOTH BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL THAT WE HAD QUITE A FEW STUDENT ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR STATE IN WRESTLING.
I COULD NOT, FOR THE LIFE OF ME, FIND THE NAMES OF ALL THE STUDENTS AT EITHER SCHOOL.
I COULDN'T AND I REALLY WANTED TO SAY ALL THEIR NAMES, BECAUSE I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO POINT THAT OUT, BECAUSE WRESTLING IS A VERY INDIVIDUAL SPORT, EVEN THOUGH IT'S A TEAM AND YOU'RE WORKING TO YOU'RE WORKING TO WIN MATCHES AND ALL THAT.
AND I KNOW IT'S THE SAME FOR PRAIRIE. A GOOD CHUNK, A GOOD CHUNK OF BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS WILL BE REPRESENTING US AT THE STATE COMPETITION, WHICH IS EITHER THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT WEEKEND.
IT'S THIS WEEKEND. IT'S THIS WEEKEND TO A LOT OF STATE THIS WEEKEND AS WE'RE WRAPPING UP WINTER SPORTS AND WE'RE GOING INTO SPRING SPORTS, WHICH FIRST DAY IS MARCH 3RD. KEEP YOUR EYE OUT.
I AM AND YEAH, AND ANOTHER THING FOR RIVER HOMELINK IS WE HAVE OUR FAMILY DANCE COMING UP ON MARCH 7TH, AND IT'S FROM 6 TO 8 P.M. THE THEME IS RED CARPET.
SO, ALL OF THE ASB STUDENTS WILL BE DRESSING UP AS, LIKE, DISNEY CHARACTERS AND PRINCESSES AND LIKE, DIFFERENT CHARACTERS THAT THAT BECAUSE IT'S A K THROUGH 12 DANCE THAT KIDS CAN COME AND TAKE PICTURES WITH US AND WE'LL HAVE PAPARAZZI AND A RED CARPET AND IT'S GOING TO BE SUPER COOL. SO YEAH. AND MAY I JUST SAY, DO YOU GUYS WATCH THE SUPER BOWL LAST NIGHT? YEAH, I WATCHED THE SUPER BOWL LAST NIGHT. THAT'S SOMETHING I'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT ALL DAY WAS WE DID NOT HAVE A THREE PEAT, BUT THAT'S ACTUALLY ALL I HAVE TO SAY. SO THAT'S IT FOR STUDENT VOICE.
THANK YOU. THAT'S GREAT. THANK YOU. STUDENT REPS.
AND NEXT ON OUR AGENDA WE HAVE THE PRESENTATION OF A DONATION FROM THE BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION. GO AHEAD. HI, I'M ALISON BULLOCK. I'M THE PRESIDENT OF THE BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
THEY SHARED THIS WITH US AS A TOKEN OF THEIR APPRECIATION OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT SINCE 1955.
SO THERE WERE CLOSING DOWN THAT GROUP AND THOUGHT OF THE EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
SO THEY'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT BOTH THOSE THINGS.
SO WHEN WE SPOKE WITH THE BAND DIRECTOR, IT'S GOING TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE INSTRUMENT PURCHASES.
SO MARCHING BELLS, PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS, WHICH IS NEAR AND DEAR TO MY HEART.
AND THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND HAS MARCHED WITH THE ROSE FLOAT SINCE ITS BEGINNING.
BACK WHEN IT WAS A HORSE AND BUGGY IS WHAT I'VE BEEN TOLD.
SO IT WAS JUST A GREAT WAY GREAT WAY TO GIVE BACK.
AND THEN LINNELL'S GOING TO TOUCH ON ABOUT THE FCRC.
WE ARE REALLY FORTUNATE. ONE OF OUR MOST OUR LARGEST REQUESTS AT THE FAMILY COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER HAS BEEN INTERNET ACCESS. SO WHEN WE THINK ABOUT ACCESS OF SCHOOL FOR FAMILIES TO APPLY FOR JOBS, THERE'S REALLY NOT A LOT YOU CAN DO WITHOUT INTERNET. AND SO WITH THE FUNDING LOSS OF THE ESSER FUNDS THAT HELPED OUR FAMILIES GET HOTSPOTS, WE WEREN'T ABLE TO CONTINUE THAT SERVICE. BUT NOW THROUGH THIS GRANT, WE'VE IDENTIFIED SOME FAMILIES THAT ARE NEEDING SOME EXTRA SUPPORTS.
YES. SO THAT'S GOING TO BE A HUGE BARRIER LIFTED FOR OUR FAMILIES.
YEAH. VERY COOL. THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, I KNOW IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING HOW MUCH THE DISTRICT APPRECIATES ALL THE WORK OF THE FOUNDATION, AND WE ENJOY BEING YOUR PARTNERS.
[00:40:04]
BUT ON A DAY LIKE TODAY, WHEN YOU BRING SOMETHING LIKE THIS, IT JUST BRINGS IT HOME AGAIN TO ALL OF US.AND I, I HOPE THE PUBLIC UNDERSTANDS HOW MUCH YOU NEED THEIR SUPPORT AS WELL.
SO THANK YOU AGAIN. I ENJOYED WORKING WITH YOU GUYS FOR THE SHORT TIME THAT I DID.
I LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT BGF AND WE DON'T KNOW THAT MUCH THE PUBLIC DOESN'T REALIZE.
SO YEAH. THERE'S GOT TO BE SOMETHING I CAN SAY.
WELL, THAT'S THAT'S MY GOAL TO GET THE WORD OUT MORE SO WE CAN.
YEAH. I WAS TOTALLY IMPRESSED. YEAH ALLISON, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
AND THANK YOU FOR ASSUMING THIS RESPONSIBILITY. IT'S A BIG ONE.
YES. AND WE APPRECIATE YOU STEPPING UP. AND IT'S NICE TO PUT A, YOU KNOW, NICE TO THAT YOU'RE HERE.
WE REALLY LIKE APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
NEXT WE HAVE COMMITTEE REPORTS. AND I KNOW TERRY HAS LOTS TO SHARE WITH US ON COMMITTEE.
OKAY. TERRY COULD TALK ENDLESSLY. IT'S WAY TOO MUCH.
SO WHAT I WANTED TO DO THIS EVENING WAS GIVE SOME INFORMATION THAT'S HELPFUL.
I'VE GOT LISTS OF THINGS, LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS THAT ARE GOING ON.
ONE LEGISLATOR INTRODUCED MORE THAN A THOUSAND PIECES OF LEGISLATION.
I MEAN, IT'S LIKE, YOU KNOW, GEE WHIZ, GUYS, COME ON.
SO HERE'S WHAT I WANTED TO GIVE YOU. I WANT TO GIVE YOU THE THREE PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT ANY OF YOU, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANY PLACE COULD, COULD ACTUALLY MAKE YOUR OPINION HEARD.
I TALKED TO A LEGISLATOR A FEW DAYS AGO AND HE SAID, YEAH, BEFORE I GO OUT ON THE FLOOR TO DO SOMETHING, I LOOK TO SEE HOW MANY PROS AND HOW MANY CONS AND WHO'S SENDING LETTERS AND SEE.
SO IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. OKAY. SO YOU CAN GO TO I SHOULD HAVE EVERYBODY SAY IT LEG.WA.GOV.
SO LEGISLATURE.WASHINGTON.GOV. IT'S THAT EASY LEG.WA.GOV OKAY NOW IF YOU GO THERE THE FIRST THING THAT POPS UP IS A PLACE WHERE YOU WANT TO TRACK A BILL.
PUT IT IN. SO HERE'S THE THREE BILLS YOU WANT TO TRACK SB AND I'LL SEND IT TO YOU FOLKS.
I'M SORRY I DIDN'T DO THAT. I'LL SEND YOU THREE BEFORE THIS.
SB FUND 5192 SENATE BILL 5192 IS ABOUT MSOC. I DON'T HAVE IT MSOC IN HERE. I'VE GOT MATERIALS, SUPPLIES, AND OPERATING COSTS.
OKAY, YOU GUYS CALL IT MSOC BUT IT'S MATERIALS, SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS.
SO NOW WHAT YOU CAN DO AND WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR IS THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU WRITE THEM OR TELL THEM, HEY, YOU GUYS GOT TO VOTE THIS WAY. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. YOU GET IN AND YOU TELL THEM A STORY THEY WANT TO HEAR 90 SECONDS.
THEY WANT TO HEAR A MINUTE AND A HALF OF SOMETHING THAT YOU CAN TELL THEM WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR SCHOOLS WITH REGARD TO SUPPLIES AND THE PROBLEMS THAT WE'RE HAVING, MATERIALS, SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS. SO, IF YOU HAVE A STORY ABOUT CHILDREN AND PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW, THERE'S PROBLEMS YOU GET ON AND YOU TESTIFY 5192 OKAY, SO SB 5263, THAT'S ABOUT SPECIAL ED FUNDING. SO YOUR VOICE CAN BE HEARD. ANYBODY ON THE INTERNET WATCHING OR LISTENING TO THIS, WATCHING THE VIDEO YOU CAN GET ON, YOU CAN GO TO SAY IT AGAIN LEGWA.GOV.
AND YOU CAN THE FIRST THING THAT POPS UP, WHAT DO YOU WANT TO LOOK AT? 5263 ABOUT SPECIAL ED FUNDING. AND IT'LL SAY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY SOMETHING TO THE LEGISLATORS ABOUT IT? WOULD YOU LIKE TO TESTIFY IN PERSON OR ONLINE? FILL OUT A FORM AND THEY'LL TRY TO GET YOU IN.
YOU'RE JUST NOBODY, I MEAN, THEY EVEN LET ME TALK ONE TIME.
IT WAS LIKE, AMAZING. OKAY, LAST ONE, TRANSPORTATION.
SB5187. OKAY, THAT'S ABOUT TRANSPORTATION. BUSSING STUFF.
AND SO IF YOU DON'T GET IN THERE TONIGHT, TOMORROW MORNING, I THINK AT 4:00 IN THE AFTERNOON, YOU MIGHT IF NOBODY'S TALKING, THEY'LL PUT YOU ON.
OKAY. SO HERE'S WHAT THEY SAY. SIGNIFICANT LEGISLATIVE PROGRESS IS BEING MADE TOWARDS FUNDING CRITICAL AREAS OF TRANSPORTATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, MATERIALS, SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS.
BUT WE'LL SEE, OKAY. THE HEARINGS ON TUESDAY 11.
[00:45:02]
FAMILIES RELIANT ON SPECIAL ED AND TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS. OKAY. SO I FELT LIKE THAT'S WHAT I SHOULD GIVE FOR MY REPORT TODAY BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH THAT'S GOING ON.BUT FOLKS, YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD.
ALL OF US HERE, ANYBODY ONLINE. IT'S REAL EASY.
LEG.WA.GOV. THANK YOU, TERRY. DYNAMIC HUH. VERY, VERY HELPFUL.
AUDIT COMMITTEE. OUR MEETING'S TOMORROW. OKAY.
BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION. WE ALREADY HEARD FROM THEM.
THEY DID A GREAT JOB. GOOD REPORT. YES, THEY DID.
ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING TO REPORT? WELL, I HAD AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE.
ONE OF THE TEACHERS THERE RAN THE CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL CLUB, AND SHE INVITED US TO BRING DONUTS FOR THEIR CLUB AND THEIR VALENTINE PREPARATION THING. SO IT WAS WONDERFUL. IT WAS REALLY EXCITING.
AND THE PRINCIPAL SAID, WELL, DO YOU WANT TO SEE OTHER CLUBS? WELL, I SAID, WELL, IF SOMEBODY WANTS TO INVITE US, I'LL COME. I'LL BRING DONUTS TO ANYBODY, AND I WON'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH THEY COST. OH MY GOSH.
WE MET SOME OUTSTANDING STUDENTS AND ATHLETES, AND THEY WERE PUTTING TOGETHER VALENTINES TO GIVE TO FELLOW STUDENTS FOR STUDENTS FOR SCHOOL SPIRIT, AND I JUST THOUGHT THAT WAS SUPER COOL.
AND THEY WERE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT AND EVERYONE WAS PARTICIPATING.
THE COMMUNITY SHOULD KNOW, THOUGH. I MEAN, I HEAR ALL KINDS OF THINGS.
OH HO, HO. IT'S THE CHRISTIAN CLUB. THAT'S WHAT THEY DO.
YOU KNOW, IT WAS JUST REAL PRECIOUS, YOU KNOW, MEANT A LOT TO ME AS A FORMER PASTOR.
BUT THEY WERE ACTUALLY GIVING OUT SCRIPTURES IN OUR SCHOOLS.
OH MY GOODNESS, IT WAS SO EXCITING. I WAS JUST SO PLEASED.
YOU KNOW, THAT'S REALLY WHAT'S GOING ON. I ATTENDED A DINNER PUT ON BY THE BATTLE GROUND LIONS CALLED CRAB GANZA. IT IS AN ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB EVENT WITH.
IT'S THEIR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER. IT'S AMAZING. HOW IT RELATES TO OUR DISTRICT IS THAT OUR BATTLE GROUND ROTC CADETS VOLUNTEER AT THAT EVENT. THEY SERVE. THEY CLEAN UP. AND THEY'RE JUST THERE FOR EVERYBODY'S NEEDS.
AND THEY. I GOT TO TALK TO A YOUNG GENTLEMAN.
HE WAS A FRESHMAN, SO HIS FIRST YEAR IN THE ROTC PROGRAM, AND HE ABSOLUTELY WAS LOVING IT.
AND SO IT WAS REALLY GOOD TO SEE KIND OF LIKE OUT OF THE REALM OF WHAT THEIR NORM IS AND JUST DOING WHAT THEY DO BEST, WHICH IS JUST SERVING. SO, IT WAS VERY EXCITING.
THANK YOU. I THIS CARD THAT WAS HERE ON OUR DESK TONIGHT REMINDS ME JUST TO THANK ALL OF ALL OF THE EVERYONE WHO HAS THANKED THE BOARD FOR OUR SERVICE DURING THE BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH, AND I KNOW ALL OF THE OTHER DIRECTORS FEEL THE SAME.
WE FEEL VERY APPRECIATED, AND WE REALLY THINK IT'S SWEET WHEN WE GET THESE CARDS.
AND SO THANK YOU AGAIN TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HONORED US DURING THIS MONTH, BOARD APPRECIATION MONTH.
THANK YOU. AND WE WILL MOVE ON TO SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.
[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]
THANK YOU, MR. WATERS. JUST FOR ME, JUST ONE QUICK THING AND I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLY.I JUST WANTED TO REMIND THE BOARD THAT WE HAVE A CEC MEETING ON THURSDAY, AND OUR TOPIC THIS MONTH IS SUPPORT STAFF. AND SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A SUPPORT STAFF PANEL.
SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO HEAR FROM A SELECTION OF DIFFERENT SUPPORT STAFF ACROSS THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING PARAS, SECRETARIES, COACHES. I BELIEVE WE HAVE A CROSSING GUARD, A CUSTODIAN, A COUNSELOR, INTERVENTION SPECIALIST, SECURITY OFFICER. SO, ALL OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS ARE REPRESENTED, AND OUR PANELS HAVE BEEN I KNOW MANY OF YOU HAVE ATTENDED WHEN WE'VE HAD A PANEL. A PANEL HAS BEEN THE PANEL FORMAT HAS BEEN ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR FORMATS BECAUSE THEY REALLY GET SOME GOOD INSIGHT INTO.
AND SO, IF YOU'RE AVAILABLE AND IF YOU'RE AROUND, I'D LIKE TO GET DIBS.
[00:50:02]
I HAVEN'T GONE TO ONE YET. I'D LIKE TO I'D LIKE TO GO TO THIS ONE.YEAH. OKAY, SO YOU GOT DIBS, RIGHT? OKAY. WE GOT ONE OPENING LEFT.
SO, DIRECTOR TATE, I KNOW THAT I AM NOT AVAILABLE, SO WOULD SOMEONE ELSE LIKE TO.
I WANT TO JUST LET US KNOW. YEAH. OKAY. OKAY.
JUST LET US KNOW, BUT I'LL GO. THANK YOU. WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.
GREAT. AND WITH THAT, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLY.
GREAT. I HAVE A FEW A FEW THINGS FOR YOU TONIGHT.
FIRST OFF, WE WOULD LIKE TO START WITH AN UPDATE AROUND OUR LAST PLC WINDOW.
OKAY. OKAY. TEACHER FIRST. I THINK IT'S OKAY.
ALL RIGHT. WELL GOOD EVENING BOARD. THANK YOU FOR THE TIME TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES OR PLCS, AND REALLY WANTED TO MY PART TONIGHT WILL BE VERY BRIEF.
I WANT TO TURN THE FLOOR OVER TO JENNIFER JOHNSON TO SHARE FROM DIRECT.
DO WE HAVE THE CLICKER TO SHARE DIRECTLY WITH YOU SOME OF THE GREAT WORK THAT'S OCCURRING IN OUR SCHOOLS? SO, FIRST OF ALL, WE JUST DRAW OUR ATTENTION BACK TO THE DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN.
AND SPECIFICALLY, WHEN WE LOOK AT GOAL TWO, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AROUND IMPLEMENTING HIGH QUALITY, STANDARDS BASED INSTRUCTION AND INTERVENTIONS THAT HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE OUR MAIN DRIVER OR INITIATIVE FOR ACCOMPLISHING THAT IS PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES.
AND WE HAVE BEEN AT THAT FOR QUITE SOME TIME AS A DISTRICT.
I WANT TO BRING US BACK TO THE DEFINITION BECAUSE THIS DEFINITION IS REALLY GUIDED OUR WORK.
THIS IS A MULTI YEAR DEFINITION THAT WE'VE TRIED TO LIVE INTO.
SO WHEN WE TALK PLCS OR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES YOU HEAR THAT TERM A LOT.
BUT WHEN YOU GET INTO THE THE ACTUAL DEFINITION IT'S PRETTY POWERFUL.
SO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT COLLABORATIVE TEAMS OF PROFESSIONALS WHO DO THREE THINGS.
ONE, THEY ENGAGE IN A SYSTEMATIC PROCESS THAT FOCUSES ON LEARNING.
WE JUST TOLD TEACHERS, HEY, COLLABORATE. THERE'S FOUR QUESTIONS.
GO GET THEM. THE LEVEL OF SPECIFICITY AROUND THAT WAS PRETTY MINIMAL.
SO WE'VE REALLY BEEN WORKING AT YOU'LL SEE TWO IMAGES ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS SLIDE.
THE FIRST IMAGE IS A GROUP OF RUNNERS. THEY'RE MARATHON RUNNERS.
THEY ARE EACH INDIVIDUALS RUNNING TOWARDS THE SAME GOAL, BUT THEY'RE NOT WORKING TOGETHER.
GREAT MOVIE. AND IN THAT MOVIE, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IT SHOWS IS IF ONE PERSON IS NOT WORKING IN SYNC WITH THE REST OF THE TEAM, THE WHOLE TEAM SUFFERS. AND THAT IS THE IDEA OF WORKING INTERDEPENDENTLY.
SO WE'VE REALLY BEEN EMPHASIZING THAT WITH OUR TEAMS. AND FINALLY THEN GETTING TO HOLD EACH OTHER ACCOUNTABLE FOR IMPROVED RESULTS.
THE WHOLE REASON WE DO PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES IS FOR IMPROVED RESULTS FOR OUR STUDENTS.
PERIOD. AND IT NOTICE THAT IT SAYS FOR EACH AND EVERY STUDENT.
NOW OVER HERE ON THE WALL YOU WILL SEE WHAT USED TO BE THE THANK YOU BOARD POSTER WAS HERE.
AND IN SOME WAYS, I WAS THINKING ABOUT THIS. THIS IS OUR DISTRICT'S VERSION OF THANK YOU BOARD.
OKAY, SO WE DON'T HAVE A BUNCH OF STUDENT SIGNATURES HERE.
WE HAVE WE HAVE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE IN ORDER THAT WE CAN ACHIEVE HIGHER LEVELS OF EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS AS A DISTRICT. SO I'M GOING TO TAKE US BACK IN TIME.
IT'S BEEN BUILT INTO OUR CALENDAR NOW FOR SEVEN YEARS.
DO WE CONTINUE THAT PRACTICE? AND WE HAVE WITH GREAT SUCCESS.
IN ADDITION TO THAT, IN 1920 WE STARTED TRAINING OUR TEAM LEADS.
SO EVERY PLC WE TRIED TO EMBED AN EXPERT ON THOSE PLCS TO HELP DRIVE THE PROCESS.
[00:55:01]
2021 COVID. AND THIS IS WHAT'S COOL ABOUT OUR STORY IS OVER THE YEARS OF COVID, WE STILL SEE PROGRESS.WE STARTED INVESTING IN SOMETHING CALLED TEACHER CLARITY PROCESS, AND IN THAT PROCESS, IT'S REALLY HELPED OUR TEAMS GET MORE SPECIFIC AND PRECISE IN THEIR WORK AROUND ANSWERING THOSE FOUR QUESTIONS OF THE PLC PROCESS.
YOU'LL ALSO NOTICE THAT THE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS EMERGED THIS YEAR.
FAST FORWARD TO 2022-23. THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR BOARD THAT WE DID WAIVER DAYS.
I REMEMBER COMING TO YOU SAYING, HEY, OUR TEACHERS SPOKE VERY CLEARLY TO US IN THE SURVEY.
AND THIS WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT WE REALLY DIALED IN OUR SEVEN STEP PROCESS AND GAVE MORE CLARITY AND SPECIFICITY TO TEAMS. AS YOU AS YOU SEE HERE, WE JUST CONTINUE THIS JOURNEY AROUND OUR WAIVER DAYS AND HAVING THESE PLC WINDOWS.
WHAT IS THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT. SO WHEN YOU SEE THIS FUNCTIONAL INVESTMENT, IT'S TIME.
IT'S RESOURCES, IT'S MONEY. AND SO OUR GOAL IS TO SEE IMPROVED RESULTS.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE CAME TO TEAMS WITH THIS YEAR WAS WE SAID, HEY, AS YOU'RE DOING THIS WORK, WE'RE GOING TO BE EXAMINING AS A DISTRICT AND AS BUILDINGS, NOT ONLY WHAT'S YOUR GOAL BECAUSE TEAMS NEED A GOAL TO SHOOT TOWARDS.
SO EVERY TEAM OR EVERY WINDOW HAS A SMART GOAL.
BUT THEN WHAT'S THE OUTCOME? DATA, RESULTS OF YOUR EFFORTS.
HOW ARE YOU REACHING EACH AND EVERY STUDENT? AND THIS HAS BEEN AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO REALLY MAKE THE WORK VISIBLE SO THAT WE CAN SUPPORT TEAMS AND BECOMING EVEN BETTER AT THE WORK. WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR TONIGHT IS FROM JENNIFER JOHNSON.
JENNIFER AND I GOSH, 2007, I THINK, WAS WHEN WE STARTED WORKING TOGETHER AT DAYBREAK.
SO I'VE KNOWN JENNIFER FOR QUITE SOME TIME. SHE'S CURRENTLY A FIRST GRADE TEACHER AT PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY. SHE'S GOING TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WORK THAT THEY ARE DOING, AND HOW THEY'RE UTILIZING OUR WAIVER DAYS AND LATE STARTS TO HELP EACH AND EVERY STUDENT BE SUCCESSFUL.
SO HERE'S JENNIFER. YOU COULD USE IF YOU WANT TO.
I'LL USE THE MICROPHONE HERE. SHE'S GOING TO USE THAT MICROPHONE AND I'LL KEEP THIS ONE. OKAY. THANK YOU JENNIFER. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. SO I'M HERE TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT WE DO ON THOSE DAYS WHEN KIDS AREN'T THERE.
WE'RE BUSY WORKING THE ENTIRE TIME. WE HAVE OFTEN FOCUSED ON DIFFERENT ESSENTIAL STANDARDS.
AND THEN WE KIND OF FINE TUNE THAT. AND I MUST SAY THAT LAST YEAR, THOSE WAIVER DAYS THAT WE HAD WERE, LIKE, REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE HAD LIKE IN FIRST GRADE, WE HAD FOUR DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. WE WERE ROLLING OUT DIFFERENT CURRICULUM. AND IT WAS A HEAVY LIFT.
SUPER HEAVY. AND SO THOSE DAYS GAVE US TIME TO LOOK AT THOSE ESSENTIAL STANDARDS, GO THROUGH THAT CURRICULUM, THE WIT AND WISDOM, THE READING PORTION, THE FOUNDATIONS, WHICH IS THOSE FOUNDATIONAL BLOCKS OF READING OR SKILLS OF READING.
A LITTLE BIT BETTER OR THE, THE PROGRAMS, I MUST SAY.
AND WE WERE WORKING. MY TEAM HAS CHOSEN, LIKE THE SKILL OF NO ONE APPLIED GRADE LEVEL PHONICS AND WORD ANALYSIS SKILLS IN DECODING WORDS AS MEASURED BY OUR FOUNDATIONS UNIT.
SO AS WE TEACH THIS PROGRAM, OUR TEAM. WE HAVE, LET'S SAY, LIKE A UNIT IS 1 OR 2 WEEKS WHERE CERTAIN SKILLS ARE TAUGHT FOR READING AND WRITING. AND THEN THERE'S AN ASSESSMENT.
AND SO WHAT WE DO IS WE TAKE WE SCHEDULE THAT OUT AND WE HAVE A CALENDAR TO KEEP EVERYBODY ON TRACK AND WE'RE LIKE, OKAY, WE HAVE THREE WEEKS TO DO THIS. AND WE'RE LOOKING AT CERTAIN SKILLS AND WITHIN THAT, WE'RE WATCHING AS OUR KIDS ARE DOING THE WORK.
AND THEN DURING THOSE OUR ONE HOUR LATE STARTS, WE LOOK AT THE DATA THAT COMES FROM THOSE ASSESSMENTS, AND OUR TEAM HAS BROKEN IT DOWN. SO WE'RE TRACKING OUR KIDS, THE WHOLE CLASS, ALL OF OUR KIDS.
BUT THEN WE'RE ALSO PULLING OUT THOSE SUBGROUPS.
SO WE HAVE, LIKE, OUR SPECIAL ED KIDS THAT HAVE AN INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN.
AND THEN WE HAVE KIDS THAT HAVE THEIR LAP KIDS, SO THEY HAVE EXTRA SUPPORT IN READING.
AND WE'RE TAKING A LOOK AND WE'RE SEEING HOW THEY'RE DOING AS WELL.
OUR MULTILINGUAL, OUR MULTI-LANGUAGE LEARNERS.
SO THOSE KIDS ARE WORKING ON GAINING ENGLISH AND AGAIN FIRST GRADE.
[01:00:04]
SO THEY MIGHT HAVE ONLY HAD A YEAR OR TWO OF ENGLISH EXPOSURE AT THIS POINT.HOW ARE THEY DOING IN GAINING THOSE FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS IN READING.
SO, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE WHOLE GROUP AND WE'RE LIKE, HEY! AND OUR BENCHMARK IS LIKE 80%. LIKE IF THEY HIT 80%, THAT'S A BENCHMARK.
THEY'VE MASTERED THAT. THEY'RE SHOWING SOME MASTERY ON THAT.
AND WHAT HAPPENS IS SOMETIMES WE DON'T QUITE MAKE IT THERE OR THIS GROUP, THEY DIDN'T MAKE IT.
WHAT DO WE DO? HOW CAN WE FILL IN THE HOLES? WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE IT? AND A LOT OF THOSE ASSESSMENTS HAVE LIKE FIVE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS TO IT.
SO SOMETIMES LIKE THERE'S A MARKING UP OF A SKILL.
AND SOMETIMES THEY'RE TRICK WORDS THAT WE HAVE.
SO ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS TO IT THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT AND WE'RE LIKE, WHERE ARE THEY MISSING THAT? OH, IT'S THE TRICK WORDS. WOW. THEY REALLY FELL APART ON TRICK WORDS.
THIS GROUP AND THAT GROUP. HOW CAN WE RETEACH THAT? HOW CAN WE EMPHASIZE THAT SO THEY GET ON BOARD WITH THAT.
AND SO WE HAVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THAT PIECE AND WE SHARE IDEAS.
AND SO, YOU KNOW, JUST AND ONE HERE RECENTLY PEOPLE WERE LIKE, WELL, EXPLICITLY TEACH THEM EXACTLY WHERE TO FIND THOSE RESOURCES BECAUSE THEY CAN USE RESOURCES. AND KIDS WEREN'T PULLING IT OUT AND USING IT ON THEIR OWN ACCORD DURING THE ASSESSMENT.
THEY MIGHT USE IT AT OTHER TIMES, BUT THEY'RE NOT PULLING IT OUT ON THE ASSESSMENT OR LOOKING AT THE WALL WHERE THOSE WORDS ARE. SO IT'S LIKE WHEN WE'RE HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS, WE'RE LIKE IF WE TEACH THEM THAT AND WE PRACTICE THAT PIECE WITHIN THE NEXT UNIT, THEY'LL KNOW WHAT TO DO AND SEE IF THAT HELPS THEM ACCESS THAT SKILL.
THEN ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS WE WERE SHARING OR LET'S SEE ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS WE WENT TO.
WITH THE NEXT LIKE THE WAIVER DAY THAT WE HAD WE WERE LOOKING AT THE SAME FUNDAMENTAL, FOUNDATIONAL PARTS OF READING, AND WE WERE LOOKING AT BASICALLY THEIR FLUENCY PIECE, AND WE'RE SAYING, OH, WE NEED TO DO MORE FOR THAT.
LIKE THE SCORES WEREN'T EXACTLY WHERE WE WANTED THEM TO BE. SO WE SPENT A GOOD PORTION OF THAT WAIVER DAY BRAINSTORMING AND DIVING DEEPER INTO OUR PROGRAMS AS WELL. HOW CAN WE SUPPORT THAT? WHAT RESOURCES DO WE HAVE WITHIN THOSE PROGRAMS THAT WE'VE BEEN GIVEN? AND SO THEN WE PULLED OUT DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WERE LIKE, OKAY, NOW WE HAVE A SCHEDULE.
WE WANT TO GIVE THEM ACCESS TO THIS. WE NEED TO TEACH THIS.
LET ME SEE THE OTHER PIECE THAT I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT.
LET ME SEE. OH, ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS AT THE LAST WAIVER DAY, WE HAD AS WELL WE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE PRESENT FROM DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS.
AND THEY TALKED ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE DOING. WELL. AND ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE DID AFTERWARDS WAS WE KIND OF GATHERED UP AND WE WERE LIKE, WELL, WHAT DID WHAT COULD YOU TAKE AWAY FROM WHAT THAT GROUP IS DOING, WHAT THAT TEAM OF TEACHERS IS DOING REALLY WELL.
AND WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE SOME OF THOSE THINGS BACK AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE WERE DOING WHERE WE'RE PULLING OUT THOSE BANDS OF STUDENTS AND KIND OF TRACKING WHERE THEY'RE AT. THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO SHARE WITH OTHER TEAMS. SO THEY'RE TRACKING THOSE STUDENTS AS WELL. IN TRYING TO GET THEM MORE SUPPORT.
WE'VE ALSO BEEN ABLE TO SAY, HEY, OUR ML INSTRUCTOR, WILL YOU COME AND SHARE WITH US WHAT YOU KNOW AND SEE IF WE CAN BRAINSTORM? OUR LAP INSTRUCTOR HAS COME AND HELPED US WITH ASSESSMENTS.
AND SO THEY'RE ALSO KIND OF FOLLOWING ALONG WITH THAT AS WELL.
LET ME SEE. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE? NO, I THINK YOU TOUCHED UPON A REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT POINT.
AND I WANT TO CALL ATTENTION TO THIS BECAUSE IT'S SUPER IMPORTANT AND SUPER HOPEFUL.
WHEN WE SAY PLC THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY, WE MEAN THE ENTIRE BUILDING.
OFTENTIMES WE DEFINE THAT AS AN INDIVIDUAL TEACHER TEAM.
AND WHAT YOU HEAR IN JENNIFER'S STORY IS THAT TEAMS ARE LEARNING FROM ONE ANOTHER.
AND HOW IS IT THAT THEY ARE DOING THAT? BECAUSE WE ARE PROVIDING THEM THE TIME AND SPACE FOR THOSE IDEAS TO TAKE ROOT AND CROSS-POLLINATE ACROSS TEAMS. I HAPPEN TO BE AT THEIR WAIVER DAY. IT WAS POWERFUL BECAUSE GUESS WHAT? IT WASN'T THE ADMINISTRATORS UP FRONT SHARING PRACTICE.
[01:05:03]
IT WAS INDIVIDUAL TEAM LEADS SHARING WITH EACH OTHER AND TEAMS GOING BACK AND SEEING THEIR PRACTICE GROW.AS A RESULT OF THE LEARNING THAT EACH OF THE ADULT PROFESSIONALS IS MAKING.
SO THAT'S A SUPER IMPORTANT PIECE. AND I KNOW WHEN YOU LOOK AT OUR SEVEN YEARS, YOU MAY BE THINKING, THAT'S A LONG TIME TO BE AT THIS PROCESS. ONE OF THE BEST DISTRICTS AND TERRY, YOU ACTUALLY SHARED ONE OF THIS RECENTLY.
WHITE RIVER AND THEIR STORY. THEY'RE JUST NORTH OF US A COUPLE OF HOURS.
STRONG DISTRICTS GETTING STRONG RESULTS WITH PLCS.
THEY'VE BEEN ON THIS JOURNEY FOR 14 YEARS, 14 AND WE ARE HALFWAY THERE.
BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT THE DISTANCE THAT WE HAVE TRAVELED PRIOR TO 2018 PLCS WERE QUOTE UNQUOTE, HAPPENING IN THIS DISTRICT, BUT IT WAS ALL OVER THE MAP.
AND I JUST WANT TO SAY A BIG A BIG THANK YOU, BECAUSE THIS STORY THAT JENNIFER WAS SHARING WITH YOU IS A RESULT OF SOME OF THE ACTIONS THAT YOU'VE MADE AS A BOARD IN HELPING CONTINUE TO KEEP OUR FOCUS ON WORK THAT'S TRULY IMPORTANT AND IMPACTFUL FOR OUR STUDENTS.
ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD, EITHER TO MYSELF OR JENNIFER REGARDING THE PLCS? I ALSO HAD ONE MORE THING. SHE HAS ONE MORE THING THAT I REMEMBER I DIDN'T TOUCH ON.
WE ALSO HAVE A CALENDAR THAT HELPS US BE ACCOUNTABLE.
SO AS A TEAM, WE'RE DECIDING BECAUSE WE'RE NOT JUST TEACHING READING.
SO, WE HAVE MATH ASSESSMENTS. WE HAVE THE NUMBER CORNER CHECK OF MATH BRIDGES ASSESSMENTS.
AND WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, OUR FOUNDATIONS AND WE HAVE OUR WIT AND WISDOM AND THE MODULE ASSESSMENTS.
AND SO, WE HAVE A LOT OF ASSESSMENTS COMING AT US ALL THE TIME.
BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT DATA AND WE HAVE IT ON THE CALENDAR AND WE'RE HOLDING OURSELVES ACCOUNTABLE IN EACH OTHER. IT'S LIKE, HEY, IT'S DUE HERE. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU'RE TEACHING, YOU'RE GETTING THROUGH THAT MATERIAL.
AND SO IT REALLY KEEPS EVERYBODY MOVING FORWARD, KIND OF AT THAT SAME PACE TO COVER THE MATERIAL AND GIVE STUDENTS A CHANCE TO LEARN EVERYTHING THAT WAY. AND THEN WE ARE ABLE TO GET TOGETHER AND HAVE GOOD, PRODUCTIVE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT IT.
IT SEEMS LIKE AN EASY THING. IT'S NOT. IT'S REALLY NOT.
SO KUDOS TO THAT TEAM FOR THE WORK THEY'RE DOING. ANY QUESTIONS FROM YOU FOLKS BEFORE WE END OUR PORTION OF THE EVENING? I'M GOING TO JUMP ON SOMETHING THAT WAS JUST MOMENTARILY SAID AGO.
THERE'S A SLIDE IN THE DECK THAT SAYS DEFINITIONS OF PLC.
COULD WE LOOK AT THAT ONE? YEAH. IS THIS SLIDE DECK SOMEWHERE? I CAN'T FIND IT IN HERE. WELL, WE'LL UPLOAD IT, PLEASE.
YEAH, I'D LIKE TO BE ABLE TO GET TO IT. SO THERE'S A DEFINITION.
ONE OF THE SLIDES SAYS PLCS DEFINED OR DEFINITION.
OKAY, SO YOU MENTIONED I APPRECIATE THE EXPLANATION YOU JUST GAVE BECAUSE WE SOMEHOW THINK THIS IS THESE ARE NOT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING TEAMS. CORRECT. THIS IS A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY.
AND MY QUESTION IS WHICH IS NOT REPRESENTED IN THERE.
AND YOU STILL DIDN'T TOUCH UPON IT EXACTLY. THE ADMINISTRATORS IN THE BUILDING, ALL THE PEOPLE IN THE BUILDING, ARE THEY A PART OF THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY OR IS IT JUST THE CURRICULUMS AND THE DIFFERENT? OH, 100%.
YOU KNOW, WE AS A DISTRICT ARE REALLY A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING.
YES. SEE, THAT'S WHAT I THINK EVERYBODY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THAT.
SO, THERE'S A LOT OF TRAINING THAT GOES ON BEHIND THE SCENES WITH OUR ADMINISTRATORS.
SO THAT WE CAN HELP FACILITATE A PROCESS THAT WE ULTIMATELY KNOW YIELDS BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS.
BUT THERE IS POWER IN IN THE DISCIPLINE OF THE PROCESS.
AND IT AND IT REQUIRES TO GET IT CONSISTENT ACROSS 19 SCHOOLS IS A HERCULEAN EFFORT.
YES, IT REALLY IS. SO, THE COMMON LANGUAGE IF YOU IF YOU GO TO WAIVER DAYS AND YOU HAD THE CHANCE TO POP TO DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, YOU WOULD HEAR COMMON LANGUAGE AT EVERY SCHOOL.
PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE LEVEL OF PRECISION THAT WE'VE ACHIEVED OVER SEVEN YEARS IS NO SMALL TASK.
AND, AND, AND I WOULD SAY A LOT OF DISTRICTS SAY THEY DO PLCS.
WE REALLY DO PLCS. WE REALLY DO. YOU'RE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT GIVING THE STAFF THE TEAM TIME TO ANALYZE DATA, TALK TOGETHER, WORK ON THINGS.
AND SO THIS TAKES A LOT OF WORK AND THE STAFF.
AND IF THEY DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO TALK TO EACH OTHER AND WORK TOGETHER AND EVALUATE DATA, IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. YEAH, IT'S A REAL COORDINATED EFFORT THAT REQUIRES A LOT OF CAPACITY BUILDING.
[01:10:06]
WHICH IS A GOOD THING. WHEN I WAS IN THE CLASSROOM, IT WAS VERY ISOLATING YOU.THE SKILLS THAT I HAD WERE BASED ON THE COURSES I TOOK AND WHAT I WAS ABLE TO GO IMPLEMENT.
BUT HAD I BEEN SURROUNDED BY COLLEAGUES THAT COULD SHOW ME HOW THEY WERE GETTING BETTER RESULTS THAN I WERE, WAS AND WAS ABLE TO TALK ABOUT THE IDEAS AND STRATEGIES THEY WERE USING? I KNOW THAT I WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER TEACHER FOR MY STUDENTS, AND SO LEARNING FROM EACH OTHER IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT KEY.
AND I THINK IT'S ALSO A WONDERFUL PIECE BECAUSE JENNIFER, AS SHE DESCRIBED THE FIRST GRADE TEAM'S WORK AND THEN REACHING OUT TO SPECIALISTS, TO ML TEACHERS AND TO OTHER SUPPORT PEOPLE, IT HELPS YOU UNDERSTAND THAT THOSE SUPPORT PEOPLE ALSO HAVE A ROLE IN THIS, AND THEIR ROLE IS TO BE THE EXPERTS IN THE FIELDS THAT THEY TOO HAVE STUDIED AND KNOW THE INFORMATION.
WE JUST NEED THE TIME TO WORK TOGETHER IN ORDER TO PROVIDE IT.
SO I REALLY APPRECIATE JENNIFER BEING HERE TONIGHT AND CERTAINLY DAVID, FOR SHARING.
AND AND I IF I COULD JUST ADD AND I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE COMMUNITY TO UNDERSTAND THIS IS THE WAY YOU DO SCHOOL NOW THAT THIS ISN'T JUST A PROGRAM THAT WE'VE PUT IN AND IT'S GOING TO COME AND IT'S GOING TO GO, THIS IS WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET WHERE WE NEED TO GO.
AND I THINK ALSO JUST TO COMMEND YOU FOR THE COHERENCE IT BRINGS FOR FAMILIES, BECAUSE WHEN I HAVE STUDENTS IN SCHOOL AND I MAYBE HAVE 2 OR 3 STUDENTS IN SCHOOL, IT'S NICE FOR ME TO KNOW THAT WHEN THEY GO TO THIRD GRADE, THEY'RE GOING NO MATTER WHERE THEY ARE, WHICH THIRD GRADE THEY'RE IN. THERE'S A COHERENCE THERE BECAUSE THE TEACHERS ARE TALKING TO ONE ANOTHER AND THEY'RE MOVING AT THE SAME PACE, AND I THINK PEOPLE APPRECIATE THAT. SO THANK YOU FOR THE WORK YOU DO.
AND THANK YOU, DAVID. REALLY APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I JUST HAVE A COUPLE OF QUICK OTHER ITEMS THAT I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU. FIRST OFF, I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT LAST WEEK WAS COUNSELOR APPRECIATION WEEK.
AND THIS YEAR'S THEME IS HELPING STUDENTS THRIVE.
SO GOOD. GOOD THEME THIS YEAR. I ALSO JUST WANT TO SHARE A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT CARE SOLACE.
AS YOU REMEMBER, TAMARA WAS HERE EARLIER WITH ERIC TALKING ABOUT CARE SOLACE.
OUR, THE PROGRAM THAT WE'RE USING TO REFER FAMILIES AND STUDENTS TO MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS.
WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE. SINCE SEPTEMBER, OVER 400 FAMILIES HAVE BEEN CONNECTED THROUGH THE WORK OF OUR SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND SCHOOL PSYCHS, SO THAT'S A HUGE INCREASE IN THOSE REFERRALS AS WELL.
WE HAVE A NUMBER OF SCHOOL PSYCHS AND COUNSELORS WHO ARE THE TOP REFERRERS, AND I JUST WANTED TO GIVE THEM A SHOUT OUT, SAY THEIR NAMES FOR YOU. JESSICA AMBROSE, RENEE ANDREWS, ALLISON BAXTER, GERALYN FRIESEN, VALERIE LUIS, REBECCA OLSON, NATHAN SIMS, CRYSTAL WALLACE.
I SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT MY GLASSES. RYAN WILSON AND DEB WOOD.
OR WROTE ON A BIGGER PIECE OF PAPER. OR WROTE ON A BIGGER PIECE OF PAPER.
THAT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD IDEA, BUT I JUST WANT TO THANK THEM. EVERYBODY'S DOING A GREAT JOB GETTING OUR FAMILIES CONNECTED TO SERVICES, BUT I'M JUST REALLY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING.
IT'S IMPORTANT WORK. HOW MANY WERE REFERRED TO SERVICES? OVER 410 SINCE SEPTEMBER, BUT WE STARTED IN JUNE, SO THERE WERE OVER A HUNDRED BETWEEN JUNE AND SEPTEMBER.
SO WE'RE OVER 500. OKAY. SO DOING REALLY WELL IN THAT WAY.
THE ONLY OTHER THING IS I WAS ASKED TO SHARE WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHERE WE ARE IN THE BOOK REVIEWS, AND I WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON THAT. WE HAVE DONE SEVEN BOOK.
WE HAVE READ SEVEN BOOKS. WE'VE REMOVED ONE FROM OUR LIBRARIES.
SO WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS AND MOVING THROUGH THAT PRETTY QUICKLY.
THE OTHER QUESTION I THINK THAT CAME UP IS AROUND THE COST.
WHAT DO WE PLAN FOR? IT'S HARD TO PULL THAT OUT AND SEPARATE IT COMPLETELY.
BUT IF THEY MEET EVERY TIME. WE BUDGET ABOUT $14,000, ABOUT 14.5 AND 500 FOR THAT WORK, WHICH JUST INCLUDES SOME OF THE MEETING TIMES AND SOME OF THE READING TIMES AND SOME OF THOSE OTHER THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE IN ORDER TO DO THAT PROCESS.
[01:15:02]
SO THANK YOU FOR THAT REPORT. IS THERE SOME I WAS I ASKED YOU TO DO THAT BECAUSE SOMEBODY WAS ASKING ME IF SOMEBODY WANTED TO KNOW THE FOUR BOOKS THAT HAVE BEEN REVIEWED THAT ARE NOT GOING TO BE REMOVED, WHERE WOULD THEY FIND OUT? WHO WOULD THEY CONTACT? THEY COULD REACH OUT TO ALLISON.OKAY. SHE OVERSEES THE COMMITTEE. OKAY. SO, REACH OUT TO ALLISON.
ALLISON TUCHARDT. IN THE CURRICULUM OFFICE. YEAH.
CURRICULUM OFFICE. YOU CAN SEND IT TO ME, TOO.
I CAN MAKE SURE SHE. OR THEY CAN JUST CONTACT HER.
THAT'S RIGHT. ABSOLUTELY. I DON'T NEED TO BE INVOLVED. OKAY.
SOUNDS GOOD. AND THAT'S IT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING.
HUMAN RESOURCES NEXT. MICHELE REINHARDT. ALL RIGHT, WELL, GOOD EVENING BOARD.
IT IS A COMMITTEE THAT WE DO WE PUT TOGETHER EACH YEAR.
IT IS IN CONJUNCTION WITH OUR, PSC GROUP. SO OUR CLASSIFIED ASSOCIATION AND ESSENTIALLY IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO IDENTIFY CERTAIN POSITIONS EACH YEAR AND GO OVER JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE CURRENT.
AND THEN IT'S ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO COMPARE THOSE POSITIONS AND AS THEY RELATE TO THE SAME SIMILAR POSITIONS IN OTHER DISTRICTS. AND WE ALSO LOOK AT SALARY COMPARISONS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE OFFERING CURRENT AND COMPETITIVE WAGES.
SO THIS THIS SPRING WE HAVE STARTED REVIEWING CAMPUS SECURITY.
CUSTODIAL AS WELL AS MAINTENANCE. AND SO WITHIN THOSE THERE ARE SOME DIFFERENT DIFFERENT POSITIONS.
SO WE HAVE STARTED THAT PROCESS. ADDITIONALLY, WE'LL BE MOVING FORWARD WITH DOING THE SAME PROCESS WITH OUR AD SUPPORT STAFF, OUR AD SUPPORT STAFF, OUR UNREPRESENTED STAFF.
BUT THEY'RE THE ONES WHO WORK CLOSELY AT DISTRICT OFFICE WITH DIRECTORS AND ADMINISTRATORS.
SECONDLY, CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS. SO THAT IS COMING UP WITH A PSC.
SO OUR CLASSIFIED UNION, WE HOPE TO START THAT PROCESS IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.
AS WELL AS WITH OUR PRINCIPALS ASSOCIATION. SO WE BEGIN THAT PROCESS ACTUALLY THIS WEEK.
THIRD STAFFING. SO WITH THE ONSET OF Q AND MIGRATING TO THE NEW SYSTEM, WE HAVE HAD TO START OUR STAFFING PROCESS A LITTLE BIT EARLIER, WORKING WITH BUILDINGS TO IDENTIFY STAFFING NEEDS FOR NEXT YEAR.
AND SO WE HAVE STARTED THAT PROCESS AND WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE BUSINESS OFFICE ON THAT.
AND THEN INDUSTRY FAIR. SO THAT IS COMING UP FEBRUARY 20TH.
AND SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED. WE HAVE A NEW LOOK.
AND SO, WE'RE EXCITED WITH SOME WE HAVE SOME NEW SIGNS AND SOME NEW SWAG.
AND IT'S GOING TO BE IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT. SO WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR POSITION.
WE HAVE CUSTODIAL POSITIONS AS WELL AS POSITIONS THAT DIRECTLY WORK WITH STUDENTS.
SO, WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT OPPORTUNITY. SO THANK YOU, JULIA, FOR YOUR HONEST FEEDBACK.
AND THEN LASTLY, I JUST WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.
SO THERE'S A PRETTY IMPORTANT SUPERINTENDENT ON THERE THAT IS HAS GIVEN HIS RETIREMENT.
AND I'M NOT GOING TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH HIM.
I'M GOING TO GOING TO TRY TO BE VERY, JUST PROFESSIONAL HERE.
BUT SO DANNY'S BEEN WITH US SINCE 2007, BUT HE HAS OVER 40 YEARS OF EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT, I ADD, ANOTHER DECADE ON THERE. IS IT A COUPLE OF YEARS? A COUPLE? IT FEELS LIKE 40, I'M SURE. YES. YES.
WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, HE HAS HAD A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT ROLES.
SO ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AS WELL AS HE WAS THE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES, DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AND OBVIOUSLY SUPERINTENDENT.
AND I THINK WE WOULD ALL AGREE THAT THIS IS BITTERSWEET.
WE ARE EXCITED FOR DENNY IN THIS NEW ADVENTURE.
WE ALL GET HIS REGULAR EMAILS AND HIS STORIES ABOUT FINN AND HIS FAMILY AND WE LOVE THEM.
AND WE ARE EXCITED FOR HIM IN THIS NEXT ADVENTURE IN HIS LIFE.
BUT HE WILL BE MISSED. SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE. [APPLAUSE] A QUESTION REGARDING THE REPORT. DO WE HAVE A MOMENT FOR THAT? WE HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE REPORT. CAN I ASK A QUESTION? CERTAINLY. OKAY. HAVE WE WE'RE GETTING READY TO HAVE OUR CLASSIFIED NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE UNION.
[01:20:05]
WE I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY WE DID A LITTLE BIT OF THAT DURING COVID, BUT THEY'RE ACTUALLY AS WE HAVE SPOKEN WITH OUR ATTORNEY, THERE'S THERE WAS A RECENT LAWSUIT THAT NO LONGER ALLOWS FOR THAT.AND SO WE KNOW. SO OUR ATTORNEYS ARE TELLING US THAT YOU CAN'T LEGALLY EVEN HAVE OPEN NEGOTIATIONS.
CORRECT. INTERESTING. THAT HAS CHANGED WHAT MICHELLE, IT WAS THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, OR LUKE, I THINK IS WHAT SHE SAID, THAT THERE WAS A CASE THAT WOULD PUT US IN JEOPARDY.
SHOULD WE DO THAT IN THE FUTURE? SURE. OKAY. INTERESTING.
WE DID HAVE WHAT WE WOULD CALL OPEN NEGOTIATIONS ONE YEAR.
NOT WITH OUR CLASSIFIED STAFF, BUT WITH OUR CERTIFICATED STAFF.
AND WHILE INITIALLY PEOPLE WERE INTERESTED, BY THE TIME THE THIRD MEETING CAME, IT WASN'T.
IT'S LIKE WATCHING PAINT DRY. RIGHT. IT WASN'T OPEN.
YEAH. BUT WE'VE HAD LEGAL COUNSEL THAT SAYS WE CAN'T DO THAT. YEAH. NOW? NOW. APPARENTLY. YEAH. INTERESTING. SO, CAN I JUMP IN HERE AND MAKE A COMMENT? I JUST WANTED TO SAY I WE WISH YOU ALL THE BEST IN THE NEXT CHAPTER.
AND I KNOW BECAUSE I'VE BEEN THERE. IT IS A GREAT CHAPTER.
BUT I ALSO KNOW YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED HERE.
AND YOU'RE A VISIONARY LEADER AND THE COHERENCE THAT YOU'VE BROUGHT TO THE DISTRICT IS SOMETHING I MYSELF HAVE NOT SEEN IN A DISTRICT, ESPECIALLY WORKING ON IT FOR SEVEN YEARS, AND IT IS APPRECIATED AND THAT WORK WILL GO FORWARD.
AND JUST I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT COMMENT TO.
THANK YOU MARY. AND YOU ON YOUR WAY. THANK YOU.
ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE TO. BECAUSE THE BOARD NEEDS TO MOVE ON AND NAME SOMEBODY ELSE.
BUT I'M STILL GOING TO BE AROUND, AND I REFUSE TO SAY GOODBYE UNTIL THAT TIME COMES.
BUT I AM GRATEFUL. WHEN I PUT OUT THE ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY, I WILL TELL YOU I RECEIVED OVER 150 EMAILS FROM STAFF, WHICH IS INCREDIBLE. SO YEAH, IT'S A IT'S NOT EASY.
NO, NO. AND WE WILL GIVE YOU A PROPER CELEBRATION.
THAT'S RIGHT. YEAH. WE WILL. I'M NOT. I'M NOT GONE YET.
I FEEL LIKE I STEPPED ON THAT A LITTLE BIT. I DIDN'T THINK WE WERE GOING TO TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT WE WOULD ALL START CRYING. OKAY, SO I DIDN'T MEAN TO, BUT I HAD A REAL VISCERAL REACTION.
I JUST WANT EVERYBODY TO KNOW THIS HAS BEEN THE GREATEST HONOR OF MY PROFESSIONAL CAREER.
SO, THANK YOU BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THANK YOU.
YEAH. AND WITH THAT, COMMUNICATION, YOU'RE UP.
RIGHT. I JUST HAVE A COUPLE OF QUICK THINGS TO MENTION.
AND YOU CAN FIND INFORMATION ABOUT BALLOT DROP BOXES ON THE CLARK COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICE WEBSITE.
AND THEN, AS MICHELLE MENTIONED, THE INDUSTRY FAIR IS ON FEBRUARY 20TH, STARTING FROM WELL, IT'S FROM 5 P.M. TO 7 P.M. OFFICIALLY, BUT THEY HAVE A RESUME WORKSHOP STARTING AT 3 P.M.
THIS YEAR IS THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY, AND IT'S GOING TO BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER.
THEY'RE ALSO PLANNING TO HAVE FOOD AND GENTLY USED PROFESSIONAL CLOTHING AVAILABLE AS WELL.
SO LOTS OF GREAT RESOURCES FOR ANYONE WHO'S LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT.
JOB SEEKERS OF ALL AGES. THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
AND THEN LASTLY, THE DEADLINE IS COMING UP FOR ANY FOURTH GRADERS TO REGISTER FOR THE DISCOVERY KITCHEN COOK OFF, WHICH IS CHARTWELLS NEW CULINARY COMPETITION FOR OUR PRIMARY STUDENTS.
AND THEY WILL BE HOLDING THAT IN MARCH. SO I IMAGINE YOU'LL GET AN INVITATION TO THAT AS WELL.
THANK YOU. I THINK. THAT'S IT FOR THAT UPDATE.
CITIZENS COMMENTS. WELL, WHILE SHE'S GETTING THAT TO ADD TO AMANDA'S REPORT, YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW THAT THERE'S BEEN A 23% RECEIPT OF BALLOTS AS OF THIS MOMENT. 22.74 AND SO THAT'S 73,584.
SO. IS THAT FOR THE TOTAL COUNTIES OR IS THAT? AS OF RIGHT NOW THAT'S HOW MANY WE'VE RECEIVED REGARDING BATTLEGROUNDS.
[7. Citizens' Comments]
AND IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TO ATTEND, VIEW PRESENTATIONS AND HEAR BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSS TOPICS DURING OPEN SESSIONS.[01:25:05]
THE BOARD WELCOMES COMMENTS FROM CITIZENS DURING CITIZENS COMMENTS, AND ASK THAT THOSE WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD SIGN IN ON THE SIGN IN SHEET PROVIDED, WHICH IS LOCATED CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE. PLEASE FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES FOR CITIZENS COMMENTS BY STATING YOUR NAME.LIMITING YOUR TIME TO THREE MINUTES AND REFRAINING FROM DISCUSSING CONFIDENTIAL MATTERS.
THE BOARD REQUIRES THAT ALL COMMENTS SPOKEN AT THE MEETING BE APPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE.
COMMENTS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE CAN BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING.
BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT NORMALLY RESPOND TO QUESTIONS OR PETITIONS DURING CITIZEN'S COMMENTS.
THEY WILL LISTEN AND GIVE DIRECTION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IF ACTION IS DEEMED NECESSARY.
I WANT MY STUDENTS TO CONTROL THEIR EMOTIONS, HAVE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS, AND ACHIEVE GOALS.
BUT THE WAY EQUITY IS DEFINED MEANS EQUALITY OF OUTCOMES.
IN OTHER WORDS, IF STUDENT A GETS A GOOD GRADE, SO MUST STUDENT B DOES NOT MATTER IF STUDENT A STUDIED VERY HARD AND STUDENT B SLEPT THROUGH EVERY CLASS, THEY BOTH MUST GET THE SAME GRADE.
THE EMPHASIS IS ON FEELINGS AND EXPERIENCES, NOT LOGIC AND REASON.
THE ASSUMPTION IS THAT EVERYONE'S FEELINGS AND ALL POINTS OF VIEW ARE VALID AT ALL TIMES.
THIS SOUNDS NICE, BUT IS INCORRECT. IF A GIRL WITH AN EATING DISORDER WHO IS LITERALLY STARVING HERSELF TO DEATH BELIEVES SHE NEEDS TO LOSE WEIGHT, IS HER POINT OF VIEW VALID? OF COURSE NOT. IF WE ACCEPT HER POINT OF VIEW AS VALID AND DO NOT MEDICALLY INTERVENE, SHE'LL PROBABLY STARVE HERSELF TO DEATH, AND ANYONE WHO ENCOURAGES HER ACTIONS WILL BE COMPLICIT IN HER DEATH.
I KNOW PERSONALLY THAT SEL TAKES VALUABLE CLASSROOM TIME AWAY FROM IMPORTANT SUBJECTS LIKE MATH AND SCIENCE, WHICH I TEACH AND HAND IT OVER TO WHAT AMOUNTS TO AMATEUR PSYCHOLOGY.
I ALSO FOUND THAT STUDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SHARE INFORMATION THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE BEST KEPT BETWEEN THEMSELVES AND THEIR PARENTS. IT BEGS THE QUESTION OF WHAT PUBLIC EDUCATION IS FOR. AS THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY IMPORTANT CLASSROOM SUBJECT AND USURPS PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CHILD'S EMOTIONAL HEALTH.
EVEN IF SEL IS GRANTED EVERY BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT AND ASSUMED JUST TO WANT TO HELP CHILDREN LEARN PROPER SOCIAL BEHAVIOR, THAT IS NOT THE BUSINESS OF THE SCHOOL. AGAIN, THAT IS THE BUSINESS OF THE PARENTS.
AMERICAN PUBLIC EDUCATION IS ALMOST UNIVERSALLY ACKNOWLEDGED TO BE ABYSMAL.
IN EIGHTH GRADE, 66% OF STUDENTS CAN'T READ PROFICIENTLY.
IN THE US, 48 MILLION ADULTS CAN'T FUNCTION ABOVE A THIRD GRADE LEVEL IN ANY SUBJECT IN THE NATION.
THE STRUGGLES TO READ CAN BARELY DO MATH AND WRITES ABYSMALLY.
TAKING CLASSROOM TIME AWAY FROM THESE SUBJECTS TO DO DATA MINING AND ARMCHAIR PSYCHOLOGY IS NOT HELPFUL, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS A NEED FOR OUR STUDENTS TO FILL STEM JOBS.
THE GOAL IS TO CULTIVATE VALUES IN CHILDREN THAT ARE NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PARENTS VALUES.
IT IS A MALIGNANTLY EVIL TUMOR THAT TURNS CHILDREN INTO LAB RATS FOR GLOBALIST INTERESTS, AND AT BEST, IS A DISTRACTING CURRICULUM THAT FILLS THEIR MINDS WITH THE THOUGHT THAT AN INSTITUTION CARES FOR THEM MORE THAN THEIR PARENTS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR LISTENING. THANK YOU.
OKAY. LET ME GET MY GLASSES. IS IT SABINE, OR IS IT. IT'S SABRINA.
SABRINA. OKAY. SORRY. IT'S OKAY. HELLO. MY NAME IS SABRINA WORTHY.
I HAVE COME BEFORE YOU TODAY TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT WHY ACCESS TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IS A MORAL IMPERATIVE FOR OUR ENTIRE COMMUNITY, AND ESPECIALLY FOR OUR SCHOOL BOARD. FOUNDING FATHER HORACE MANN'S VISION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION WAS TO TEACH STUDENTS GOOD CITIZENSHIP AND THEIR RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN OUR DEMOCRACY. PUBLIC EDUCATION IMPROVES OUR COMMUNITIES, STRENGTHENS OUR DEMOCRACY, AND REDUCES INEQUALITIES. SCHOOLS SERVE ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF RELIGION, DISABILITY, ECONOMIC STATUS,
[01:30:03]
RACE, GENDER IDENTITY, IMMIGRATION STATUS, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, FAMILY STATUS, OR ENGLISH LANGUAGE FLUENCY.NINE OUT OF TEN AMERICAN STUDENTS ATTEND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, ACCORDING TO A TO A GALLUP POLL IN 2023, 76% OF STUDENTS WERE SOMEWHAT TO COMPLETELY SATISFIED WITH THEIR CHILD'S EDUCATION.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS OFFER STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO INTERACT WITH AND GET TO KNOW OTHERS FROM DIFFERENT RACES, RELIGIONS, POLITICAL VIEWS, AND SOCIO ECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS, WHICH CAN FUNDAMENTALLY PROMOTE GREATER UNITY IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND PREPARE STUDENTS TO ENGAGE BENEFICIALLY AS ADULTS. UNFORTUNATELY, PUBLIC EDUCATION HAS BEEN OVERLY POLITICIZED AND IS UNDER ATTACK.
ANTI-PUBLIC EDUCATION ADVOCATES HAVE CREATED FALSE CLAIMS TO SOW MISTRUST OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN HOPES OF GATHERING SUPPORT TO DEFUND PUBLIC EDUCATION AND ULTIMATELY CREATE A DISCRIMINATORY SYSTEM OF PUBLIC SCHOOL VOUCHERS.
SOME OF THE FABRICATED CONSPIRACIES INCLUDE THE TEACHING OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY AND THE LGBTQ INDOCTRINATION CAMPAIGN FALLACY, ALL OF WHICH ARE DELUSIONAL. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THE BOARD TO HELP EDUCATE THE COMMUNITIES THEY REPRESENT, AND DISPELLING THESE FALSE NARRATIVES BECOME ADVOCATES FOR INCLUSION OF ALL STUDENTS, PLEDGE TO GOVERN WITH DISCERNMENT AND DISCOURAGE THE PRIVATIZATION OF PUBLIC EDUCATION.
ADDITIONALLY, I WOULD LIKE THE BOARD TO DEMONSTRATE THEIR COMMITMENT TO SUPPORTING STUDENTS AND CREATING UNIFYING SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS BY ACTIVELY ENDORSING SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING. ADOPT GLISSON RECOMMENDATIONS AND ADVANCE CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE SUSTAINING EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. JENNIFER HANEY WITH YOU.
GOOD EVENING. FIRST OF ALL, DENNY, WE'RE GOING TO MISS YOU.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO THE DISTRICT. YOU'RE GOING TO.
IT'S GOING TO BE HARD. SHOES TO FILL. I ALSO JUST WANTED TO SAY TO JULIA AND ITZEL, I DON'T THINK I HAVE EVER WITNESSED ANY OF OUR STUDENT REPS WHO ENGAGE WITH THE BOARD AND INPUT AS MUCH AS THE TWO OF YOU DO.
AND I JUST WANT TO COMMEND YOU ON THAT. I REALLY ENJOYED YOUR INPUT.
AND IT'S VERY INTERESTING, I THINK, BENEFICIAL TO GET YOUR VIEWPOINT FROM A STUDENT'S PERSPECTIVE.
IT'S ONE THAT NONE OF US IN THIS ROOM HAVE. SO YOU'RE UNIQUE IN THAT POSITION.
THANK YOU. I JUST HAD A COUPLE OF COMMENTS ABOUT THE PRESENTATION THAT WE SAW DURING THE WORK SESSION ON THE EXPANSION OF THE FIFTH STREET GOING THROUGH THE, THE CAMPUS.
JUST SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT. THERE ARE CONCERNS WHICH INCLUDE HIGH TRAFFIC, VOLUME CARS SPEEDING, EVEN THOUGH MIGHT SAY, 25 MILES AN HOUR DISTRACTED DRIVING, A STUDENT BEHAVIOR WHICH IS ALSO SOMETIMES DISTRACTED AND LIMITED VISIBILITY. YOU KNOW, WHEN THE BATTLE GROUND CINEMA, THAT PLAZA WAS BUILT, THERE WAS A HIGH CONCERN OF PEOPLE SPEEDING OUT OF THAT PARKING LOT AND DRIVING RIGHT INTO THE PLAYGROUND IN THE FIELDS THERE AT MAPLE GROVE. SO MUCH THAT THEY INSTALLED THAT BIG, HUGE BRICK WALL THAT WAS JUST PEOPLE DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT.
SO HAVING A ROAD GOING THROUGH, I THINK THERE IS A GREATER CONCERN THAT WE NEED TO CONSIDER.
A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS THAT I HAVE IS, I'M WONDERING THE POWERPOINTS THAT WERE SHARED THIS EVENING, WILL THEY BE THEY BE MADE PUBLIC BY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT? IN THE WEEKLY EMAIL NEWSLETTER THAT'S SENT OUT ABOUT THIS PROJECT AND THAT THE DISTRICT HAS BEEN APPROACHED WITH THIS? I DON'T KNOW, I CAN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION.
I HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT IT. OKAY. I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING.
[01:35:01]
JUST TO FINISH UP, YOU KNOW, 20 YEARS AGO, THERE WAS NO WALMART, THERE WAS NO BATTLE GROUND VILLAGE OR 7-ELEVEN.FRED MEYER WAS ONLY FIVE YEARS OLD. THE BATTLE GROUND CINEMA HADN'T OPENED YET, AND DAYBREAK PRIMARY MIDDLE SCHOOL HADN'T BEEN BUILT, NEITHER HAD CAM. YOU'RE OUT OF TIME. JENNIFER, CAN YOU FINISH UP? OH, YES. OUR POPULATION HAS GROWN AND THINGS HAVE CHANGED.
MY NAME IS WYNN GRCICH, AND I'M HERE TONIGHT TO FIND OUT THAT YOU SPENT $14,000 READING PORN BOOKS.
OBVIOUSLY, YOU DON'T NEED THIS LEVY. YOU'VE GOT PLENTY OF MONEY.
THAT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS THING I HAVE EVER HEARD.
AND I'M THINKING HOW I'M STRUGGLING TO PAY MY TAXES TO PAY FOR THESE SCHOOLS THAT TEACH WHAT? UNBELIEVABLE. BUT THERE'S GOOD NEWS, TOO, IS THE FACT THAT TODAY THERE IS A FEDERAL HEALTH BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT THAT FLUORIDE IS POISON. AND WHAT'S REALLY GOOD ABOUT IT IS THE FACT AT THE END OF THIS VIDEO, WHEN THE GUY WAS EXPLAINING ALL THIS STUFF, HE SAID THERE MAY BE TOXIC TORT CASES IN THE FUTURE.
AND WHEN I SEE THE TEACHERS IN THIS SCHOOL, WHEN I ASK YOU TO GO TO THE BATTLE GROUND CITY COUNCIL AND TRY TO STOP FLUORIDATION, WHEN YOU HAD THE HARVARD BRAIN DAMAGE STUDIES, AND IF YOU LOOKED UP ANY OF THE THINGS THAT I GAVE YOU, THERE'S OVER 78 BRAIN DAMAGE STUDIES, AND NOT ONE TEACHER IN THIS SCHOOL WANTED TO STOP POISONING THESE CHILDREN.
THAT'S SICKENING. AND PLUS THE FACT THAT'S NOT ALL THAT IT DOES WHEN THEY PUT THESE POISONS IN THE DRINKING WATER, WHETHER IT'S CHLORAMINE, FLUORIDE, YOU NAME IT, IT LEACHES LEAD FROM THE PIPES.
I WANT TO SEE THESE KIDS GROW UP WITH NORMAL BRAINS AND BE SAFE AND HEALTH WISE.
YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING FOR THEM. AND WHEN YOU'RE SITTING THERE TALKING ABOUT LEVEES FOR STUFF, IT JUST BLOWS MY MIND, YOU KNOW? RIGHT NOW, THERE'S A TOXIC FOG THAT IS A BIO WEAPON IN THE AIR.
AND I HOPE TO GOD THAT YOU DON'T LET THESE KIDS GO OUT THERE AND PLAY IN IT.
IT'LL TELL IT'LL TELL YOU THE CHEMICALS. LOOK IT UP ABOUT THIS TOXIC FOG.
AND I HOPE THAT YOU DON'T LET THESE KIDS OUTSIDE PLAYING IN THAT STUFF WHEN THEY GOT THE FOG OUT.
SO ONE THING TOO IS THAT THERE'S A NEW BILL THAT'S COMING OUT.
AND I'M PUTTING A BUNCH OF STUFF ON ABOUT THE VACCINES, BECAUSE THERE'S GOING TO BE NO EXEMPTIONS.
AND DOCTOR MELNICK CLAIMS THAT THERE'S NO EXEMPTIONS ON THIS.
REALLY. YOU KNOW, I USED TO TAKE ALLERGY SHOTS, WHICH WAS A BIG MISTAKE.
AND I HAVE MERCURY POISONING FROM THAT. AND YOU KNOW SOMETHING? THEY STILL PUT MERCURY IN FLU VACCINES. SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GETTING? IT'S THE MOST TOXIC THING YOU CAN PUT IN YOUR BRAIN.
AND YOU KNOW SOMETHING? I'VE DONE ALL KINDS OF STUFF TO TO GET THIS OUT.
THANK YOU, WYNN. EUNICE INGERMANSON. THANK YOU.
GOOD EVENING. BOARD. MY NAME IS EUNICE INGERMANSON, SHE HER.
AND I'M A RESIDENT HERE. GOOD JOB JULIA, LOVE YOUR STUDENT INPUT AND THE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM THAT YOU BRING. LAST YEAR, THE STATE LEGISLATURE PASSED INITIATIVE 2081, WHICH WAS ALSO CALLED PARENTS BILL OF RIGHTS.
[01:40:04]
THIS YEAR THEN, LAST JANUARY, THE STATE SENATE PASSED SB 5181, WHICH CLARIFIED AND MODIFIED SOME OF THE POINTS.SOME CLAIM THAT IT REDUCES THE PARENTS RIGHTS IN SOME WAYS.
I AM WITH THE SPIRIT OF HB 1296, WHICH PRIORITIZES STUDENTS RIGHTS AND ACKNOWLEDGES PARENTS RIGHTS AS THEY SERVE TO UPHOLD AND PROTECT STUDENT RIGHTS.
MOST OF US SPEAK A PARENT'S RIGHTS AS HONORING THE PARENTS, AS THE FIRST STAKEHOLDERS IN THE CHILDREN'S EDUCATION AND WELFARE, AND THAT WOULD BE RIGHT. WE NEED PARENTS TO HAVE THE RIGHT, THE POWER AND AUTHORITY TO DO RIGHT BY THEIR CHILDREN, TO CARE FOR THEM AND TO PROTECT THEM FROM HARM.
ON THE OTHER HAND, IF YOU LOOK AT THE NATIONAL STATISTICS ON CHILD ABUSE.
BY FAR THE GREATEST NUMBER OF PERPETRATORS OF CHILD ABUSE ARE THE CHILDREN'S OWN PARENTS.
IN 2022, 191,000 CHILDREN WERE ABUSED BY THEIR MOTHERS AND 125,000 BY THEIR PARENTS. FATHERS. OUT OF THE REPORTED 550,000 CASES OF CHILD ABUSE THAT YEAR. THAT IS WELL OVER HALF. IT IS. IT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT TO PUT IN ALL THE PROTECTIVE LANGUAGE INTO LAW, TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN'S RIGHTS, TO BE SAFE, TO HELP EACH AND EVERY STUDENT SUCCEED IN LIFE.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. OKAY. NEXT ON OUR AGENDA IS THE CONSENT AGENDA.
[8. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

IT'S BEEN MOVED THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
STUDENT REPS. PRO. PRO. OKAY. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? HEARING NONE. THE MOTION IS TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SAY AYE. AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? THE AGENDA IS APPROVED. 5 TO 0. NEXT. RELUCTANTLY.
RELUCTANTLY. RELUCTANTLY. YES. WITH. WITH A HEAVY HEART.
WE DO THAT. YEAH. MY WIFE IS PLEASED. WE DO LIKE HER.
YES, WE DO WANT TO MAKE HER HAPPY. THERE IS NO OLD BUSINESS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. SO WE'LL BE GOING INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION.

DOES THAT WORK? HOPEFULLY FOR 30 MINUTES. THANK YOU.
AND WE ADJOURN OUR REGULAR MEETING AT 9:05. THANK YOU.
