THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

[00:00:02]

GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. I'D LIKE TO CALL THIS OCTOBER 28TH, 2024 REGULAR BOARD MEETING TO ORDER.

[1. Call to Order]

WE WILL START WITH OUR PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

READY, BEGIN.

NEXT, WE HAVE OUR ROLL CALL.

MADAM PRESIDENT, WE HAVE A QUORUM.

THANK YOU. NEXT, WE HAVE OUR AGENDA APPROVAL.

[4. Agenda Approval (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON TONIGHT'S AGENDA, WE HAVE OUR COMMUNICATIONS, INCLUDING STUDENT VOICE, SOME RECOGNITION.

COMMITTEE AND DIRECTOR REPORTS.

WE HAVE OUR SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

CITIZENS COMMENTS, THE CONSENT AGENDA WITH ITEMS A THROUGH J.

NO OLD BUSINESS.

NO NEW BUSINESS.

AND THEN WE'LL GO OVER FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS AND BOARD EVENTS.

ARE THERE ANY ITEMS THAT THE BOARD WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS OR REMOVE FROM TONIGHT'S AGENDA? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PROFESSIONAL. ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? COMMENTS. HEARING NONE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

NEXT UP, WE HAVE STUDENT VOICE.

[5. Communications]

AND I DO BELIEVE WE HAVE STUDENTS HERE FROM TUKES VALLEY PRIMARY.

CADE, ETHAN AND LUCIA.

IF YOU COULD COME TO THE PODIUM.

WELL, THIS IS GOING TO BE TOO CUTE ALREADY.

AND IF THEIR PARENTS ARE HERE WITH THEM, THEY CAN COME UP AND FEEL FREE TO TAKE PICTURES.

YOU CAN STAND BEHIND US TO GET THE BEST SHOTS IF YOU'D LIKE.

ETHAN, DO YOU WANT TO COME BACK HERE WITH ME OR DO YOU WANT TO COME BACK? WHERE DO YOU STAND? OKAY.

ALL RIGHT. OH, OKAY.

THIS WORKS FOR ME.

YEAH. OKAY. SO WE'RE DOING SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR.

SO TYPICALLY WHEN WE'VE COME IN THE PAST, WE KIND OF HAD DIFFERENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM DIFFERENT GRADE LEVELS, TELLING THE BOARD ABOUT AMAZING THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOL. BUT THIS YEAR, WE'RE JUST TAKING ONE SMALL STORY TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT KIND OF EMBODIES THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING IN TUKES VALLEY IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND SO TONIGHT WITH ME, I HAVE THIS IS ALL THESE KIDDOS ARE FROM MRS. CLARK'S CLASS. SO IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR, THIS IS MRS. CLARK. SHE TEACHES KINDERGARTEN AT TUKES VALLEY.

AND THEN DO BOYS AND GIRLS WANT TO INTRODUCE YOURSELVES? DO YOU WANT TO TELL THEM WHAT YOUR NAME IS? MY NAME IS CADE.

ETHAN. AND THIS IS LESA.

YEP. AND THIS IS LESA.

SO THIS STORY I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU TONIGHT KIND OF HAS A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND, SO I WANT TO SHARE THAT.

SO THEY'RE VERY EXCITED.

SO LET ME TELL THE STORY, AND THEN IT'LL BE YOUR TURN.

OKAY. SO AS A DISTRICT WE HAVE THREE PRIORITIES AND THREE GOALS.

AND THOSE ARE THE SAME GOALS THAT WE HAVE AT TUKE.

SO THAT SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND THEN THAT COLLABORATION WITH OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO MEADOWLARK KIND OF EMBODIES THESE THREE THINGS IN HER CLASSROOM ON A DAILY BASIS.

AND SO HOW DO WE PROVIDE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL ALL AT THE SAME TIME IN PARTNERSHIPS WITH PARENTS? AND SO IF YOU'VE EVER BEEN IN CLASS, YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

IF YOU HAVEN'T, YOU'RE WELCOME TO COME.

I'M SURE SHE'D BE HAPPY TO HAVE YOU, BUT YOU CANNOT DO ONE OF THOSE THINGS IN SILOS.

SO THE SEL WORK IS HAND IN HAND WITH THE HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION DAILY IN HER CLASSROOM.

SO SHE'S CONTINUOUSLY TALKING TO HER STUDENTS ABOUT, YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOURSELF.

WHAT DOES MRS. CLARK SAY ABOUT KISSING YOUR BRAIN? WHAT DO YOU DO? KISS YOUR BRAIN? KISS YOUR BRAIN? YOU SHOULD BE SO PROUD OF YOURSELF.

THIS IS A COMMON LANGUAGE IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

SO IN TANDEM WITH THAT, OUR NEW CURRICULUM, SO WE'RE USING FOUNDATIONS.

SHE IS DILIGENT IN MAKING SURE THAT THAT HAPPENS EVERY DAY.

AND THIS IS GOING TO SOUND A LITTLE SILLY, BUT THAT CURRICULUM PROVIDES SAFETY FOR OUR STUDENTS.

[00:05:02]

IT'S PREDICTABLE.

IT'S ROUTINE. THEY KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN EVERY DAY.

AND SO LISA IS A MULTILINGUAL LANGUAGE LEARNER IN OUR SCHOOL.

AND SHE CAME TO OUR SCHOOL NOT SPEAKING ENGLISH.

AND SO FOR HER JUMP START WAS LIKE TREMENDOUSLY OVERWHELMING CAUSE A LOT OF ANXIETY, A LOT OF BIG EMOTIONS.

THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF SCHOOL, SHE WAS NEVER DETACHED FROM ADULTS HAND, WHETHER THAT BE HER PARENT OR ML INSTRUCTOR, THE PARA, MRS. CLARK. IT WAS IT WAS A BIG JUMP FOR HER EMOTIONALLY.

AND SO FOR WE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE IN CLASS AND WE HAVE A LITTLE VIDEO THAT WE'RE GOING TO SHOW.

BUT ESSENTIALLY BECAUSE OF THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOL AND IN MIDDLE CLASS THESE STUDENTS ARE CELEBRATING ONE ANOTHER, AND LISA IS ENGAGING IN CURRICULUM.

COMING AS A STUDENT THAT KNOWS NO ENGLISH TO NOW BEING ABLE TO ENGAGE FULLY AND LEAD HER CLASS IN THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING.

SO I WANT TO SHOW THE QUICK VIDEO AND THEN I'LL TELL A LITTLE BIT MORE.

SO LISA.

SO THERE'S MORE TO.

YES, PLEASE. SO, THERE'S A LITTLE BIT MORE BACKGROUND TO THIS, TOO.

SO PRIOR TO THIS MRS. CLARK WAS TALKING TO THE KIDS ABOUT BEING PROUD OF THEMSELVES.

AND KATE HERE HAD ONE DAY WENT UP TO MRS. CLARKE AND SAID, MRS. CLARKE, I KNOW WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO BE SO PROUD OF US NEXT.

DO YOU REMEMBER THAT? AND WHAT DID YOU SAY THAT MRS. CLARKE WOULD BE SO PROUD ABOUT.

WHEN LESA SAID HER FIRST WORDS? YEAH, WHEN LESA SAID HER FIRST.

SO, LIKE THE EMPATHY FOR A KINDERGARTNER TO HAVE THAT LIKE THAT DOESN'T JUST HAPPEN NATURALLY, RIGHT? LIKE THE WORK THAT HIS PARENTS ARE DOING, THE WORK THAT MRS. CLARK IS DOING. SO FOR HIM TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THAT.

AND EACH DAY IN MEADOWLARK'S CLASS, THEY JUST PULL A STICK AND SOMEBODY GETS TO LEAD THE CLASS IN THIS ACTIVITY THAT ACTUALLY YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE IN TONIGHT AS WELL AND LESA'S HIS NAME GOT DRAWN AT THIS POINT, LESA HAD NOT SPOKEN AT ALL.

NOT JUST IN NOT JUST IN UKRAINIAN OR IN ENGLISH, BUT WE REALLY ACTUALLY HADN'T HEARD HER VOICE AT ALL.

SO GREETING THE CLASS OR ANSWERING A QUESTION I HADN'T HEARD HER VOICE AND HER CLASSMATES HADN'T HEARD HER VOICE BEFORE.

SO WHEN HER STICK WAS DRAWN, IT WAS ALWAYS AN OFFER.

IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE TO COME AND LEAD THE CLASS, YOU CAN.

AND I WISH THAT I HAD HAD THIS CAPTURED.

WE'VE TRIED TO RECREATE IT, BUT SHE POPPED RIGHT UP AND IT WAS SILENT IN THE CLASSROOM.

WITH STUDENTS GLOWING AND GRINNING AT LESA AND GIVING HER, LIKE ETHAN SAID, A SILENT CHEER THROUGH THE WHOLE THING.

AND SO FOR HER TO GET UP AND I ALMOST I DID WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW.

IT CHOKED ME UP. IT WAS A HUGE MOMENT.

NOT JUST BECAUSE SHE SPOKE, BUT BECAUSE SHE LED THE CLASS, LIKE AND EVERYONE'S PRIDE IN THAT WAS JUST INCREDIBLE TO WITNESS. THEY WERE SILENT.

YOU COULD HAVE HEARD IT TOOK A WHILE.

SHE NEEDED SOME SUPPORT WITH SOME OF THE LETTERS.

YOU COULD HAVE HEARD A PIN DROP.

NO ONE INTERRUPTED HER.

THEY WERE CHEERING LIKE ETHAN.

ETHAN, WHAT DID YOU DO, BUD, WHEN THAT HAPPENED? TELL EVERYONE WHAT YOU DID.

I SILENT CHEER BECAUSE SHE WAS [INAUDIBLE] DOING THE WORDS AND THAT STUFF.

IT WAS A REALLY INCREDIBLE MOMENT, AND I WANT TO CALL ATTENTION TO THE CURRICULUM AND HOW IT PROVIDES ACCESS FOR ALL LEARNERS.

AND JUST THE ROUTINES AND THE FAMILIARITY MADE LESA FEEL CONFIDENT ENOUGH TO GET IN FRONT OF HER CLASSMATES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME.

THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL PIECE WAS HUGE.

[00:10:02]

CADE CALLING ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT HE KNEW SHE WOULD.

A FEW WEEKS BEFORE, FEEL CONFIDENT SPEAKING.

AND THEN WHEN SHE DID, THE CELEBRATION WAS HUGE.

AND I SHARED THE STORY WITH APRIL AND I APPRECIATE THAT SHE ACKNOWLEDGED WHAT A SPECIAL MOMENT THAT WAS AND JUST THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING WITH ACADEMIC LEARNING AND SEEING HOW SUCCESSFUL IT IS, I THINK WAS EXCITING. THIS WAS A STORY WE HAD TO SHARE BECAUSE, LIKE I SAID, I USED THE WORD SAFETY THAT THIS CURRICULUM IS CREATING SAFETY FOR OUR KIDS.

SO LIKE EVERY MORNING, MEADOWLARK HAS A CLASSROOM CIRCLE.

AND LIKE SHE SAID, KIDS DON'T HAVE TO ENGAGE.

IT'S USUALLY LIKE, WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE COLOR? WHAT DID YOU DO OVER THE WEEKEND? WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE DESSERT? SHE HAD YET TO ENGAGE.

STILL HAS YET, BUT SHE LED THE CLASS THROUGH CURRICULUM, SO LIKE IT GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS THAT A KIDDO CAN DO THAT.

AND IT'S JUST SO WHEN SHE TOLD ME THIS STORY, I WAS LIKE, OKAY, WE HAVE STUDENT VOICE.

I KNOW EXACTLY THE STORY I WANT TO TELL.

SO CADE IS GOING TO LEAD YOU ALL THIS EVENING IN THE ACTIVITY THAT THEY DO IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

SO PLEASE HUMOR US.

PLEASE ENGAGE IN THE ACTIVITY.

HE'S GOING TO BE THE TEACHER, AND ETHAN AND LESA AND MYSELF AND THE REST OF US ARE GOING TO BE THE CLASSROOM.

OKAY. DO YOU THINK YOU'RE READY? WE'RE READY CADE.

SO THIS IS PART OF THE CURRICULUM.

THE PUPPET IS CALLED BABY ECHO.

THE ECHO MEANS YOU REPEAT.

OKAY. SO WHAT DO WE DO? OKAY. A APPLE A A APPLE A B B B B C CAT C CAT K D DOG D D D D E AND F E D F F F F G G G G K Q I H I H IT J J J J J J M M M M M N N N NUT N O OCTOPUS R O OCTOPUS O.

P PETE PAN, R RAPPER.

R RAPPER.

S SNAKES.

S SNAKES.

T TOPPED YOU UP.

ARE YOU UP? A NEW ONE.

WE DON'T KNOW THAT ONE. ALL RIGHT, WELL, THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING US THIS OPPORTUNITY.

THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR COMING AND SAYING HI TO US.

IT WAS REALLY NICE SEEING YOU GUYS.

DO YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? OH. THIRSTY? IF YOU PUSH SOMEONE AND THEY TRIP AND FALL, YOU SHOULD SAY SORRY.

THANK YOU FOR TELLING US.

THAT'S A NICE, GOOD ADVICE.

LIKE, IF YOU TRIP AND FALL, YOU SHOULD GO ASK IF THEY'RE OKAY.

THAT'S GOOD TOO.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, GUYS. THANK YOU, GUYS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I WOULD JUST COMMENT THAT MEADOWLARK IS ONE OF OUR ACADEMY TEACHERS.

SO AS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT VISITING ACADEMY PROGRAMS, THAT'S A GREAT.

HER CLASSROOM IS A GREAT ONE TO VISIT WHEN WE HAVE OUR ACADEMIES.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED LET ME KNOW AND I'LL MAKE SURE WE GIVE YOU SOME DATES.

YOU CAN GO.

ALL RIGHT. DO WE HAVE ANY OTHER STUDENTS HERE IN THE AUDIENCE FOR STUDENT VOICE? YEAH. I FORGOT TO TELL YOU.

THERE'S SOMEBODY FROM [INAUDIBLE] GOOD TO SEE YOU AGAIN.

SO I KNOW.

OKAY. HELLO AGAIN EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS HOLLY AND I AM RIVER HOME LINK'S ASB VICE PRESIDENT.

AND I'M HERE TO UPDATE YOU ALL ON WHAT OUR ASB HAS BEEN UP TO SINCE YOU LAST SAW ME.

OUR FIRST ASSEMBLIES OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WERE SEPTEMBER 21ST TO THE 27TH.

ASSEMBLIES ARE A GREAT WAY FOR US TO START THE YEAR OFF STRONG AND BRING A MESSAGE TO OUR WHOLE STUDENT BODY, WHICH IS WHY WE DO AN ASSEMBLY FOR THE KINDERGARTEN THROUGH SECOND GRADERS, THE THREE THROUGH SIXTH GRADERS, AND THE SEVENTH THROUGH 12TH GRADERS.

[00:15:01]

THE THEME WAS WE BELONG, WHICH WAS A GREAT TONE SET FOR THE YEAR AND HELPED US TOWARD OUR GOAL OF BRINGING INCLUSION AND HARMONY TO OUR SCHOOL.

ASSEMBLIES ARE ALWAYS SO FUN, AND WE EVEN GOT SOME FEEDBACK FROM TEACHERS SAYING THEIR STUDENTS REALLY RESONATED WITH THE THEME THAT WE CHOSE.

OUR ESCAPE ROOM NIGHT WAS SOMETHING BRAND NEW THAT OUR ASB DECIDED TO TAKE ON, AND IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS.

IT WAS ONE OF OUR MANY K THROUGH 12 EVENTS AND WAS A HIT WITH ALL AGES.

THE STUDENTS WHO PLANNED IT ARE MIDDLE SCHOOLERS THAT ARE RELATIVELY NEW TO ASB, AND I COULDN'T BE PROUDER OF WHAT THEY ACCOMPLISHED WITH THIS EVENT.

WE MADE, LIKE, RECORD BREAKING STUFF WITH IT.

SO OUR FIRST SPIRIT WEEK OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS LAST WEEK.

THE THEMES BEING MATHLETES VERSUS ATHLETES ON MONDAY, SURFERS VERSUS BIKERS ON TUESDAY, CRAZY HAIR AND FUNKY SOCKS DAY ON WEDNESDAY, 80'S DAY OR WEAR NEON COLORS ON THURSDAY, AND THEN FINALLY 50S DAY OR WEAR PASTEL COLORS ON FRIDAY, WHICH WAS THE SAME DAY AS OUR 50S THEMED FALL DANCE.

SPIRIT WEEK IS ALWAYS A FUN WAY FOR US TO BUILD SCHOOL SPIRIT AND BRING OUR COMMUNITY TOGETHER.

OUR 50S THEMED FALL DANCE WAS LAST FRIDAY AND IT WAS A HIT.

WE HAD A TURNOUT OF OVER 140 PEOPLE, WHICH IS REALLY GREAT FOR A SCHOOL OF OUR SIZE.

FALL DANCE IS FOR GRADES SEVENTH THROUGH 12TH, AND IT'S A GREAT WAY FOR US TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN OUR MANY AGE GROUPS.

PEOPLE HAD SO MUCH FUN WITH THIS THEME AND DRESSED FOR THE DECADE AND IT WAS AWESOME.

OVERALL, IT WAS A GREAT TIME AND BROUGHT OUR SCHOOL TOGETHER.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR YOU FOR RIGHT NOW.

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? SOUNDS LIKE FUN. HOLLY.

YES, IT WAS GOOD.

YOU GUYS ARE STAYING BUSY? YES. THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

WE APPRECIATE THE UPDATE.

DO WE HAVE OTHER STUDENTS IN THE AUDIENCE? OKAY, BEFORE I TURN IT OVER TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES, JUST ONE MORE.

THANK YOU TO OUR PARENTS FROM TUKES WHO BROUGHT THEIR STUDENTS IN TO TALK TO US.

AND STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES, DO YOU HAVE REPORTS? ALL RIGHT, I'LL START.

OKAY, SO HOLLY DID ALL OF THE RIVER HOMELINK STUFF FOR ME.

SO I'M GOING TO BE TALKING A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SPORTS.

SO I'M GOING TO START WITH THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

WELL, JUST IN TERMS OF OUR SPORTS LEAGUE, WE HAD OUR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR SPECIFICALLY CROSS COUNTRY, WHICH IS A SPORT THAT I DO.

AND WE HAD LIKE RECORDS FOR BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL SPECIFICALLY, THIS IS THE BEST WE'VE DONE IN DISTRICTS IN A LONG TIME.

SO THE BOYS TOOK FIRST PLACE DISTRICT CHAMPIONS AND THAT MEANS THEY BEAT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL.

SO THAT WAS REALLY AWESOME.

AND THEY BEAT CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL BY A LOT.

SO IF YOU DON'T KNOW CROSS COUNTRY, YOU'RE TRYING TO HAVE THE LOWEST SCORE.

AND WHEN THERE ARE MULTIPLE TEAMS, THE MARGIN JUST GETS LIKE LOWER AND LOWER.

SO LIKE BEATING A TEAM, IF YOU'RE AT A BIGGER MEET, BEATING A TEAM BY LIKE 7 OR 8 POINTS IS LIKE A PRETTY BIG DEAL.

AND BATTLE GROUND BEAT EVERY TEAM, INCLUDING CAMAS HIGH SCHOOL, BY 17 POINTS AT THE DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS.

AND THAT MEANS THAT THE BOYS ARE GOING TO REGIONALS AS A WHOLE TEAM.

AND WE'RE ALSO SENDING FIVE GIRLS TO REGIONALS BY THEIR INDIVIDUAL TIME, WHICH WAS SUPER AWESOME.

AND MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS ALSO HAD THEIR CROSS COUNTRY SEASON CLOSED, WHICH THAT WAS THEIR LIKE SPORTS SEASON ONE SPORT.

AND IT LOOKS LIKE LET ME PULL UP THE SCORE HERE.

IT LOOKS LIKE PLEASANT VALLEY WAS THE DISTRICT CHAMPION FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS, SO GOOD JOB, PLEASANT VALLEY.

AND THEY ACTUALLY JUST STARTED THEIR SEASON TWO OF MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS TODAY, WHICH IS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL AND BOYS SOCCER.

SO THAT WILL BE SUPER EXCITING.

I THINK IT GOES UNTIL LIKE WINTER BREAK, BUT I'M NOT 100% SURE, SO THAT'LL BE SUPER EXCITING.

BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL HAD THEIR HOMECOMING ON SATURDAY, WHICH WAS SUPER COOL RIGHT AFTER THE HOMECOMING GAME AGAINST SKYVIEW, WHICH, YEAH TED SHAKES HIS HEAD.

AND AT RIVER HOMELINK, ONE THING THAT HOLLY DIDN'T MENTION WAS THE PARENT GROUP, THE PTO, THEY HAD THEIR ANNUAL HARVEST CRAWL AND FALL CARNIVAL ON A DAY THAT I DON'T REMEMBER THE 18TH, I BELIEVE, AND IT WAS A HOOT.

IT WAS SO FUN. SO THE FIRST HOUR IS LIKE THIS CRAWL WHERE TEACHERS DRESS UP AND THEY CAN PASS OUT CANDY TO LITTLE TRICK OR TREATERS, AND EVERYBODY WEARS COSTUMES ARE SUPER FUN.

AND THEN AFTER THAT, THEY GET TO GO INTO THE GYM FOR A CARNIVAL THAT'S PUT ON BY THE PARENT GROUP, AND IT'S SUPER FUN.

THE KIDS LOVE IT, AND IT TURNED OUT REALLY, REALLY WELL THIS YEAR.

SO THAT WAS AWESOME. AND THAT'S ACTUALLY ALL I HAVE TO REPORT.

OKAY, MY TURN NOW.

I'LL START WITH SPORTS.

PRAIRIE HAS THEIR SENIOR NIGHT THIS FRIDAY AGAINST HERITAGE.

PRAIRIE SOCCER HAD THEIR SENIOR NIGHT LAST WEEK, THURSDAY AGAINST EVERGREEN.

THAT WENT WELL. WE WON THAT GAME.

SO WE'RE HEADING OFF TO PLAYOFFS NEXT SATURDAY.

SO THAT'S GOING TO BE FUN.

[00:20:02]

THE. SO ON TO CROSS COUNTRY FOR PRAIRIE.

BOYS AND GIRLS TEAM WON DISTRICT CHAMPIONS CHAMPIONSHIP.

SO THEY WILL BOTH BE HEADING TO REGIONALS AS A TEAM.

AND THEN ONE OF OUR PRAIRIE FOOTBALL PLAYERS, DEVIN VEGU, IS UP FOR WEEK EIGHT COLOMBIAN PLAYER OF THE WEEK.

AND THEN NOW I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT ASB.

SO RIGHT NOW WE ARE SELLING SPOOKY SURPRISES FOR $4.

SO THEY'RE LIKE LITTLE.

SO YOU CAN BUY THEM TO GIVE TO OTHER PEOPLE.

SO WE'RE SELLING THEM THIS ALL THROUGH THIS WEEK AND UP UNTIL WEDNESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.

AND THEN THEY COME WITH LIKE SLIMES AND LITTLE LIKE VAMPIRE TEETH.

AND THEN YOU CAN WRITE A NOTE TO THE PERSON YOU'RE SENDING IT TO.

AND THEN WE GIVE IT TO THEM DURING THEIR FOURTH PERIOD ON THURSDAY, ON HALLOWEEN.

AND THEN WE HAVE OUR TRUNK OR TREAT THIS WEDNESDAY FROM 4 TO 530.

AND IT'S WHERE A BUNCH OF CLUBS SIGN UP AND THEY ALL HAVE THEIR OWN TRUNK.

AND THEN WE ALL DECORATE THEM, AND THEN WE GIVE OUT CANDY TO THE WHOLE COMMUNITY.

AND THEN PEOPLE DONATE SOCKS AND THEY PUT THEM IN LIKE THESE BOXES WHERE THEY VOTE, WHERE THEY THINK WHOSE TRUNK IS THE BEST.

AND THEN AT THE END, WE ALL COUNT UP ALL THE SOCKS AND WE THEN WE FROM THERE, THAT'S WHEN WE CHOOSE WHO THE WINNER IS.

AND THEN ALL THOSE SOCKS ARE GOING TO DONATIONS TO DONATE TO A DONATION I THINK IS CALLED LEMONADE, WHERE WE WORK WITH THEM AND WE GIVE HELP THEM WITH GETTING A CERTAIN CLOTHING.

AND SO THAT'S AND THEN WE ALSO ARE WORKING WITH HOSA AT OUR SCHOOL, AND THE CLUBS ARE GOING TO BE WORKING ON A SCHOOL WIDE FOOD DRIVE THAT WILL BEGIN ON THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER AND WILL END ON THE 20TH OF SEPTEMBER.

AND IT'S KIND OF LIKE GOING TO BE A LITTLE COMPETITION WITH ALL THE CLUBS AND EVERYTHING, SO THAT EVERYBODY'S GOING TO HAVE THEIR OWN BOXES FOR TO PUT OUT AROUND THE SCHOOL, AND THEY CAN DECORATE HOWEVER THEY WANT, AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO PUT THEM AROUND SCHOOL, AND THEN PEOPLE PUT CANNED FOODS BECAUSE THEY ARE ACCEPTING DIFFERENT TYPES OF STUFF, SO THEY ARE ACCEPTING CANNED FOOD ITEMS, BOXED ITEMS AND NOT OTHER NONPERISHABLE ITEMS. AND THEN YOU PUT THEM INTO THE BOXES OF WHO YOU WANT, WHICH CLUB YOU WANT TO WIN.

AND THEN ON THE 20TH OF DECEMBER IS OUR COLOR WARS ASSEMBLY.

SO THEN THAT'S WHEN WE'LL ANNOUNCE THE CLUB WINNER.

AND THEY'RE UP TO WINNING A PRIZE OF COLOR WAR POINTS TO THEIR GRADE.

AND. YEAH, AND THAT'S ALL WE ARE WORKING ON AT SCHOOL.

SO ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? NO. OKAY.

NICELY DONE. THEN WE WILL MOVE ON TO SOME RECOGNITION FOR RIVER HOMELINK AND THE RISE AWARD, MR. DRAKE. CAN I GET MATT AND SUSAN AND RIVER HOMELINK STAFF, EVEN THOSE THAT DON'T WANT TO COME UP, THAT ARE NOT MAKING EYE CONTACT WITH ME, AND ANY PARENTS THAT WOULD LIKE TO COME UP AS WELL FOR RIVER, HOMELINK AND STUDENTS.

SO I WANTED TO TALK REALLY QUICK.

THIS IS AN AWARD THAT WAS STARTED JUST THIS LAST YEAR IN COMBINATION BETWEEN AWSP, WHICH IS THE STATE PRINCIPALS ASSOCIATION IN AWSL, WHICH IS THE STATE STUDENT LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATION.

THEY STARTED AN ON THE RISE AWARD.

RIVER HOMELINK WAS NOMINATED.

IF YOU DIDN'T KNOW, WE HAVE THE STATE'S LARGEST PARENT PARTNERED PROGRAM AT 960 STUDENTS HEADCOUNT.

AND THIS AWARD IS TO RECOGNIZE A BUILDING WHERE THE STUDENTS AND THE ADULTS PARTNER TOGETHER TO BUILD A STRONG SCHOOL CULTURE.

SO WITH THAT, I WOULD LIKE TO TURN IT OVER TO MATT AND SUSAN TO SAY A FEW WORDS.

I WILL SPEAK VERY BRIEFLY AND THEN LET MATT SPEAK.

WE WERE TIPPED OFF ABOUT THIS FROM A COMMUNITY MEMBER AND TOOK A CHANCE AND DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND APPLY, AND WE TRIED TO BE PRETTY VULNERABLE.

A LOT OF PEOPLE FIND THE PARENT COMPONENT TO BE A STRENGTH, AND OTHERS FIND IT TO BE UNSETTLING.

AND WE THOUGHT IT IS WHAT IT IS AND WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, SO LET'S JUST GO WITH IT.

[00:25:01]

SO WE DID OUR BEST TO DESCRIBE WHAT WE DO EVERY DAY.

WORKING WITH OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STUDENTS AND SENT IT OFF.

AND SURPRISE, SURPRISE, MATT, I'LL LET YOU SPEAK.

I GOT A TEXT MESSAGE HERE FROM MY BOSS THAT SAYS, DON'T TALK VERY MUCH SO I CAN SHOW THAT TO YOU.

LIKE, I WAS GOING TO SAY I DIDN'T SEND YOU A TEXT MESSAGE.

OH, IT MUST BE TRAVIS.

OKAY. I TOLD YOU I'M GOOD WITH THAT.

SO SUSAN NAILED IT.

THAT'S BUT WE INVITED THESE FAMILIES, AND YOU KNOW, EVERY ONE OF THESE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN IN MY OFFICE TO TELL ME DIFFICULT THINGS, TO TELL ME FUN THINGS.

EVERY ONE OF THESE TEACHERS AND I THINK THEY ENCAPSULATE OR THEY EMBODY WHAT RIVER HOMELINK IS ALL ABOUT.

AND THIS AWARD WAS REALLY ABOUT SCHOOLS THAT ARE BUILDING A LEADERSHIP CULTURE AND BUILDING A CULTURE AROUND FAMILIES TO MAKE SCHOOL THE BEST IT CAN POSSIBLY BE. AND SO MR. LONG HERE AT ONE POINT SAID IN MY OFFICE AND SAID, HEY, WE'RE NOT DOING IT RIGHT.

WE'RE NOT LIVING UP TO OUR MISSION.

AND HE'S THE KINDEST MAN I KNOW.

HE SAID IT IN THE KINDEST WAY POSSIBLE.

I'M LIKE, YOU'RE RIGHT, LET'S CHANGE COURSE.

RIGHT. THERE'S FAMILIES HERE THAT WERE LIKE, HEY, WE JUST NEED ANOTHER OPTION.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR US? AND WE SAID, WE'LL TRY EVERYTHING WE CAN TO SERVE YOU THE BEST THAT WE CAN.

AND SO THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.

THIS IS REALLY ALL ABOUT YOU AND ALL THE WORK THAT YOU DO TO MAKE OUR PLACE AMAZING.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

DO YOU WANT TO SAY ANYTHING? OKAY.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO RIVER HOMELINK.

AND IF WE COULD, COULD WE GET A PICTURE, MAYBE HAVE YOU GUYS FACE THE OTHER WAY? AND CAN WE GET ABOUT ONE MORE TIME FOR RIVER HOMELINK? TRAVIS, HOW MANY OF THESE AWARDS WERE GIVEN? DO YOU KNOW? 21. 21.

SO ACROSS THE STATE, 21 AWARDS.

ALL RIGHT. GREAT. THANK YOU AGAIN.

CONGRATULATIONS HOMELINK.

THANK YOU TO OUR FAMILIES WHO MADE THE JOURNEY HERE TO BE A PART OF THIS.

IT REALLY DOES MEAN A LOT TO THE BOARD TO SEE HOW IMPACTFUL THIS IS TO OUR SCHOOLS.

NEXT, WE HAVE OUR EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARDS.

EVERY MONTH, EVERY WEEK, EVERY TIME AMANDA SENDS OUT SOME COMMUNICATION, WE'RE GETTING A FLOOD OF NOMINATIONS AND SEEING THE TUKES VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL, WHAT MISS CLARK WAS DOING.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, RIVER HOMELINK.

AND WE'RE JUST A LITTLE REMINDER THAT THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD THINGS HAPPENING ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.

AND SO TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES EACH MONTH TO RECOGNIZE JUST FIVE IS A TOUGH THING TO DO WHEN WE HAVE STACKS OF NOMINATIONS COMING IN, BUT IT'S BEEN A REALLY GOOD EXPERIENCE TO GO THROUGH. I GET TO READ A LOT OF GREAT THINGS, AND SO SOME OF THE WORDS I'M GOING TO READ TONIGHT WERE SUBMITTED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS, TEACHERS, STUDENTS, AND A VARIETY OF PEOPLE RECOGNIZING THE GREAT WORK THAT YOU GUYS ARE DOING.

SO AND THEN I ALSO HAVE A CERTIFICATE, YOU'RE GOING TO GET A CHANCE TO SHAKE THE BOARD'S HAND, AND WE'LL GET A PICTURE TAKEN BEFORE WE DISMISS YOU.

SO APPRECIATE YOU GUYS BEING HERE.

AND I GOT YOU.

I HAVE NO PARTING WORDS OF ADVICE, BUT THE ADVICE ON TRIPPING BY THE KINDERGARTNER.

ALL RIGHT, NEXT UP, WE HAVE OUR COMMITTEE REPORTS AND WE WILL BEGIN WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

I DON'T REALLY HAVE ANYTHING ABOUT LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, BUT I JUST WANT TO REMIND THE BOARD MEMBERS THAT THERE IS A RUNOFF FOR THE STATE BOARD ELECTION.

TWO CANDIDATES ARE THERE'S A RUNOFF WITH TWO CANDIDATES.

I THINK THERE WERE FIVE TO BEGIN WITH.

YOU SHOULD HAVE RECEIVED AN EMAIL TODAY FROM WSSDA AND TAKES LESS THAN A MINUTE TO VOTE.

PLEASE BE SURE AND DO THAT.

THANK YOU. AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT.

YES. WE MET THE 22ND REVIEWED SUPERINTENDENT TIMECARD AND VENDORS.

ALSO EMPLOYEE TIME CARDS.

EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER.

AND WE REVIEWED ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WERE CHOSEN, AND EVERYTHING LOOKED REALLY GREAT.

WE DO APPRECIATE THE LADIES THAT TAKE THE TIME TO WORK WITH US AND GIVE US REAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION, KEEPING THINGS TRANSPARENT FOR THE COMMUNITY.

NEXT ONE'S ON THE 18TH.

OKAY. BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

HAVEN'T HAD A MEETING.

NEXT MEETING IS NOVEMBER 21ST.

I JUST DESPERATELY LOOKING FOR A RESPONSE FROM.

SO I SENT AN EMAIL OUT TO THE WRONG PERSON AND BUT I GOT IT.

NOVEMBER 21ST IS WHEN WE HAVE OUR FIRST MEETING, YOU KNOW.

SO. GOOD TO KNOW.

YEAH. OKAY. OUR TOURIST COMMITTEE, WE JUST COMPLETED A TOUR AT PLEASANT VALLEY LAST FRIDAY.

WHO WOULD LIKE TO GET THAT STARTED? WELL, I WILL START BECAUSE I THINK IT REALLY PIGGYBACKS ON WHAT WE SAW WITH THE KINDERGARTNERS HERE TONIGHT.

THE CURRICULUM THAT'S BEEN PUT IN PLACE.

AND I LOVED HOW SHE SAID IT BRINGS SAFETY, BECAUSE WHAT WE SAW IN A SECOND GRADE CLASSROOM WAS PHENOMENAL, WITH A STUDENT LEADING THAT SAME KIND OF WORK AT A SECOND GRADE LEVEL, AND KNOWING THAT IT BUILDS THE CONSISTENCY ACROSS CLASSROOMS, AND TO SEE A STUDENT ABLE TO STAND UP THERE JUST LIKE THIS LITTLE ONE

[00:35:02]

DID AND LEAD THE CLASS, TELLS ME THAT THEY FEEL SAFE NOT ONLY WITH THEIR PEERS, BUT WITH WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING.

AND IT JUST IT WAS PHENOMENAL IN EVERY CLASSROOM THAT WE WENT TO TO SEE THAT CONSISTENCY AND THAT SAFETY.

SO THAT WAS I'LL LEAVE OTHER THINGS TO OTHER PEOPLE, BUT I WAS JUST EXCITED ABOUT THE OUR NEW CURRICULUM AND HOW IT'S WORKING.

SO I'M ALWAYS EXCITED TO HEAR ABOUT THEIR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES AND THE PROGRESS THEY'RE MAKING IN THOSE MEETINGS.

AND THEY HAD A REALLY GOOD REPORT ABOUT THE TEACHERS WORKING TOGETHER AND AND SEEING THE DATA AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

IT WAS PRETTY EXCITING TO ME.

YES, AND THEY HAVE THREE NEW CLASSROOMS AND THEY'RE BEAUTIFUL, AND REALLY, THE CHILDREN ARE REALLY ENJOYING THEMSELVES IN THE SPACE.

AND THEY HAD DESIGNED IT IN SUCH A WAY THAT THERE'S A NICE HALLWAY SO THAT PEOPLE CAN MOVE ABOUT AS THEY NEED TO.

AND ALSO, I WAS REALLY GLAD TO HEAR THAT THERE WERE REFERRALS TO THE CARE THAT'S GOING ON, AND ALSO THAT THERE WERE TIER TWO AND THREE TEACHER MEETINGS HAPPENING SUPPORTING THE EARLY INTERVENTION, WHICH IS SUPER, SUPER IMPORTANT FOR OUR YOUNG PEOPLE ESPECIALLY IN THIS TIME. AND JUST GREAT WORK AND GREAT COLLABORATION BEING DONE.

I JUST HEARD THAT REPEATEDLY DURING OUR MEETING WITH THEM, AND THEY REALLY FELT LIKE THEY WERE REALLY MAKING GREAT STRIDES IN THE MENTAL HEALTH AREA FOR OUR KIDS.

DIRECTOR CHAMPINE GOT THE FOOTBALL BUY ON THE SCHOOL TOUR THIS TIME AROUND.

JULIE, DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO ADD? OH, YES.

ONE THING THAT WAS REALLY COOL. WE WERE ABLE TO GO OUT WITH OUR GROUP.

WE WERE ABLE TO GO INTO THREE KINDERGARTEN CLASSROOMS. AND AT THE TIME THAT WE WENT INTO EACH CLASSROOM, THEY WERE ALL LEARNING THE SAME THING FROM THE SAME BOOK.

BUT THE TEACHERS WERE, LIKE, OBVIOUSLY TEACHING THEM THEIR OWN PERSONALIZED WAY.

BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY AWESOME HOW CONSISTENT THE EDUCATION OF, LIKE, EVERY KINDERGARTNER, LIKE THEY WERE ALL LEARNING THE SAME THING.

AND, LIKE, I FEEL LIKE EVEN WHEN I WAS IN KINDERGARTEN, LIKE, THAT WASN'T EXACTLY THE SAME, BUT THAT WAS LIKE 12 YEARS AGO.

AND I LIKE HOW NOW WITH THE CURRICULUMS THAT WE HAVE AND LIKE ESPECIALLY I THINK PLCS ARE REALLY CONTRIBUTING TO THAT, HOW WE CAN ENSURE THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS ARE GETTING THE SAME EDUCATION EVEN IF THEY HAVE DIFFERENT TEACHERS OR EVEN IF THEY'RE IN DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS, WHICH ALL OF THESE CLASSROOMS, THEY WERE ACTUALLY THE THREE NEW ONES, AND WE LITERALLY JUST WENT THROUGH THE DOOR.

DOOR TO DOOR. THEN THERE'S A TEACHER IN THE CORNER ON THE SITTING RUG, AND SHE'S READING THE SAME BOOK.

AND IT WAS LIKE IT WAS REALLY SPECIAL.

BUT THAT AND THEY ALSO HAVE A TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

AND WE GOT TO GO IN AND I GOT TO HELP A LITTLE GIRL PAINT, AND IT WAS SO PRECIOUS.

AND I DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE.

AND I JUST LOVE THE TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN THAT WE HAVE.

AND I THINK LIKE, THEY WERE IN THERE LIKE TWICE, LIKE I GUESS IT WAS LIKE A STRUCTURED PLAYTIME THAT THEY WERE IN WHEN WE WENT IN.

BUT EVEN LIKE THE THINGS WE WERE DOING WERE STILL CONTRIBUTING TO THEIR EDUCATION, LIKE THEY WERE PAINTING, THEY WERE DOING PUZZLES.

THEY WERE JUST LIKE, STILL ENGAGED.

AND I LOVE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT FOR OUR DISTRICT.

SO YEAH, THOSE ARE MY DEFINITELY MY TWO HIGHLIGHTS.

SO YEAH, I THINK I LIKE.

I THINK IT WAS SUPER CUTE GOING TO THE PRIMARY SCHOOL AND SEEING ALL THOSE LITTLE KIDS AND JUST LIKE SEEING HOW LIKE BRIGHT IT IS TO JUST WALK IN THERE AND LIKE THE ATMOSPHERE THERE, I FELT LIKE IT WAS VERY BUBBLY AND HIGH AND HOW THEY HAVE EVERYTHING, LIKE ALL THE LETTERS OF THE ALPHABET UP AND DIFFERENT COLORS AND ALL THE LIKE ANIMALS THAT WOULD LIKE REPRESENT THOSE LETTERS.

AND THEN I ALSO LIKED HOW THERE WAS TWO PROJECTS THAT I SAW THAT PARENTS HELPED.

WHICH ONE OF THEM WAS THE BEAVER? THAT ONE OF THE PARENTS, BECAUSE OF IF YOU GO, THERE'S LIKE A BEAVER THAT WAS MADE OUT OF, LIKE ONE OF THE TREES.

AND IT WAS BECAUSE THAT ONE OF THE THAT TREE LIKE, BROKE DOWN.

AND THEN THEY HAD ONE OF THE PARENTS COME AND, LIKE, FIX IT INTO A BEAVER.

AND THAT LIKE ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, A LOT OF PEOPLE AND A LOT OF PARENTS ARE LIKE, KIND OF LIKE WANTING TO GO TAKE PICTURES WITH IT.

AND THEN THE SECOND PROJECT I SAW WAS WALKING INTO ONE OF THE HALLS WHERE IT'S THIS BEAUTIFUL MURAL OF THEIR MOTTO BRAVO, WHICH IS WHAT THEY GO BY AT PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY.

AND THAT ONE OF THE PARENTS, ONE OF THE MOTHERS, ACTUALLY ASKED AND REQUESTED IF THEY COULD PAINT IT.

AND SHE PAINTED IN BEAUTIFUL COLORS.

AND JUST SEEING THAT, LIKE THE COMMUNITY AND THE PARENTS ARE ALSO A PART OF THE SCHOOL AND ARE ALWAYS HELPING AND DECORATING AND ALL THAT STUFF JUST SHOWS THAT THEY HAVE THAT

[00:40:04]

COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND THAT COMMUNITY HELP.

SO IT'S REALLY NICE TO SEE THAT PARENTS ARE ALSO VERY INTERACTIVE WITH THE SCHOOL AND HELPING AS MUCH AS THEY CAN.

AND THEN ALSO JUST I JUST LOVE SEEING HOW LIKE ALL THE LITTLE KIDS AND ALSO THE NEW CURRICULUM AND HOW IT ALSO KIND OF LIKE TIES IN WITH THEIR LEADERSHIP SKILLS AND GOING IN FRONT OF CLASSES. AND I THINK THAT WILL FUTURE ON LEAD ON TO OTHER LEADERSHIP CLASSES AND OTHER WAYS AND JUST HELP THEM GROW AS PEOPLE AND AS LITTLE KIDS.

AND I THINK IT WAS JUST SUPER CUTE SEEING ALL THOSE KIDS.

IT WAS JUST REALLY FUN TO ME JUST TO BE THERE AND SEE THAT ATMOSPHERE.

SO YEAH, I REALLY ENJOYED ALL OF THERE WAS NOT A WALL THAT WASN'T DECORATED WITH STUDENT WORK.

THERE WAS A POEM ABOUT A DOG AND IT WAS JUST PRECIOUS.

WE STOPPED AND JULIE AND I STOPPED AND READ SOME OF THE POEMS THAT WERE ON THE WALL.

THIS IT WAS A FANTASTIC TOUR, AND IT IS A GREAT SCHOOL AND A GREAT ATMOSPHERE, BUT I THINK MY BIGGEST TAKEAWAY WAS WE WEAVED THROUGH THE HALLWAY TO DODGE FOOD CARTS BECAUSE THEY STILL DON'T HAVE A CAFETERIA.

AND SO IT IS AMAZING WHAT THEY DO WITH WHAT THEY HAVE.

AND THIS WON'T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE TO MOST EVERYONE, BUT THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY I HAD WAS THE NUMBER 17.

AND THAT WAS JUST THE STRUGGLE THAT THESE ADMINISTRATORS GO THROUGH.

AND SO IT WAS JUST REALLY MOVING TO SEE WHAT THEY GO THROUGH EVERY DAY AND TO SEE THEIR PASSION AND ALL OF THAT COME TOGETHER.

AND THESE KIDS ARE LEARNING.

AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

SO I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR THIS SCHOOL.

ANYTHING YOU WANT TO ADD? NO, I THINK I THINK ALL OF YOU CAPTURED IT TREMENDOUSLY.

AND I ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT WE'RE VERY WE'RE VERY PROUD, PROUD, PROUD OF OF ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS.

BUT PLEASANT VALLEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB REPRESENTING THEMSELVES.

THEY DID. SO THANK YOU FOR NOTICING ALL OF IT.

I WILL REMIND THE BOARD THAT THERE IS NO TOUR IN NOVEMBER.

AS WE WILL BE TRAVELING.

AND THEN OUR NEXT BOARD TOUR IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6TH.

AND, MR. TATE, YOU HAVE TO BUY THAT TOUR.

WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE ON TO DIRECTORS REPORTS AND ANYTHING THAT ANYBODY HAS TO SHARE.

I WANTED TO SHARE.

I AM PARTICIPATING IN THE SCHOOL EXCUSE ME, CURRICULUM COMMITTEE.

IT'S BEEN VERY INVIGORATING AND ENLIGHTENING.

WE'RE REVIEWING AND CONSIDERING BEST CURRICULUM FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

THE COMMITTEE HAS AN ARRAY OF MEMBERS WHICH I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO SEE.

WE'RE LOOKING AT CONTENT AND APPEAL TO STUDENT LEARNING.

THERE'S A SURVEY THAT WE GO THROUGH AND, AND AS WE REVIEW THE DIFFERENT CURRICULUM AND I, I THINK THERE WAS I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE OF THE NUMBER.

SO I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT, BUT THERE WAS QUITE A FEW.

BUT I THINK THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET MY UNDERSTANDING.

WE'RE GOING TO GET DOWN TO TWO.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT PROCESS.

AND IT'S VERY TIME CONSUMING.

SO I DO APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU THAT, THAT TAKE THE TIME TO DO THAT BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S A LOT AND I APPRECIATE THE TWO.

I CAN'T REMEMBER YOU GUYS NAMES.

TAMARA I KNOW IS ONE.

AND ERIC AND I ALWAYS SAY HIS NAME WRONG.

IT'S. IT'S NOT SNOOKS, RIGHT? WHAT IS IT? SOUP. SOUP.

SOUP. SOUP. SOUP. SOUP.

HE TOLD ME. HE TOLD ME THAT FIVE TIMES.

I. FROM NOW ON, HE SNOOPS.

TO ME. HE'S SNOOKS.

OKAY. AND HE WAS GIVING ME THE BACKGROUND STORY ON THAT.

AND IT WAS SUPER CUTE AND VERY ENLIGHTENING.

SO ANYWAY, IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

AND I'M VERY EXCITED AND APPRECIATIVE TO BE A PART OF THIS COMMITTEE.

AND WE APPRECIATE YOU JOINING DEBBIE.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

OF COURSE. TED, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING? I'M STILL LAUGHING OVER SNOOKS.

SNOOKS TALK.

I JUST AM I'M GOING TO ASK A QUESTION BECAUSE I KNOW VETERANS DAY IS COMING UP AND THERE WILL BE VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLIES, AND I JUST WANT TO, YOU KNOW, PUT THAT OUT THERE THAT I ALWAYS APPRECIATE AT LEAST BEING ABLE TO GO TO A SCHOOL TO ONE OF THEIR ASSEMBLIES.

SO WE WILL REACH OUT TO THE SCHOOLS AND SEE IF WE CAN GET A CALENDAR OF WHEN THEY'RE HOLDING THEIR ASSEMBLIES, AND WE'LL FORWARD THAT OUT. SO I SEE SHAKING OF HEADS.

SO WE'RE ON IT.

OKAY. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT REMINDER, ELLEN.

I HAD A COUPLE OF THINGS I PROMISED YOU GUYS LAST TIME WE WOULD TALK ABOUT WAS THE BREAKOUT SESSIONS.

I WAS JUST KIDDING. WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THEM AT THE NEXT MEETING.

RIGHT NOW THEY'RE STILL IN DRAFT FORM THERE.

[00:45:03]

BUT IF YOU WANT TO GO TAKE A SNEAK PEEK, THERE'S SOME REALLY LIKE WHAT APPEAR TO BE GOOD SESSIONS OUT THERE.

SO GO START LIKE PERUSING, BUT IT'S NOT FINAL YET, SO WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT AT THE NEXT MEETING.

WE ALL GOT AN EMAIL.

IT'S PRAIRIE IS PUTTING ON MARY POPPINS THAT JUST CAME OUT.

AND SO MARK YOUR CALENDARS.

THERE'S FOUR DATES IN NOVEMBER FOR THAT.

AND THEN WE JUST ALSO GOT AN EMAIL FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES A WHILE BACK.

DENNY ASKED US ABOUT OUR OPINION ON A POTENTIAL TIMBER SALE, WHICH WE DIDN'T HAVE ONE BECAUSE WE'RE NOT TIMBER EXPERTS.

BUT THEY DID INVITE SPEAKERS TO THEIR NOVEMBER 5TH MEETING.

THAT'S AT 9 A.M..

AND SO IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FOLLOWING THAT, THAT IS WHEN THAT NEXT MEETING IS.

AND THEN I KNOW IT'S STILL OCTOBER AND WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT TRUNK OR TREAT.

BUT THERE ARE SO MANY BAZAARS THAT START THIS WEEKEND.

WITH ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS.

I THINK LADYBUG BAZAAR IS THIS WEEKEND.

RIGHT. I KNOW I WAS LIKE TOO EARLY, IT'S TOO EARLY, BUT IT'S NOVEMBER 2ND, AND THEN LAUREN HAS THEIR BAZAAR ON THE NINTH, AND THERE'S A TON OF OTHERS, SO, LIKE, WE NEED A GATHERED LIST, BUT THEY'RE OUT THERE.

AND SO IF YOU ARE BIZARRE GOERS MARK YOUR CALENDARS BECAUSE THEY'RE LIKE, BIZARRE.

NO BAZAAR. BAZAAR.

BAZAAR. IT'S EXCITING BECAUSE IT'S LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, LESS THAN TWO MONTHS TO CHRISTMAS.

SO WHICH MAY NOT BE AS EXCITING, BUT CRAFTING IS.

SO. ANY OTHER DIRECTOR'S REPORTS? HEARING NONE, WE WILL TURN IT OVER TO YOU FOR SUPERINTENDENT.

[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

THANK YOU. JUST A COUPLE OF QUICK UPDATES FROM ME.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLEY.

AND TEACHING AND LEARNING.

NUMBER ONE IS THAT WE HAVE.

I WANTED THE BOARD TO BE INFORMED.

I TALKED TO SOME OF YOU THAT WE HAVE THE POTENTIAL OF CHICKEN POX OUTBREAK AT TWO OF OUR SCHOOLS CURRENTLY.

RIVER HOMELINK AND MAPLE GROVE PRIMARY.

THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH, I MEAN, THE CLARK COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH MONITORS THE NUMBER OF CASES WE HAVE IN AN INDIVIDUAL BUILDING. AND IF IT REACHES A CERTAIN LEVEL, I THINK IT'S 5 OR 6 CASES.

FIVE CASES. IF THERE'S MORE THAN FIVE CASES IN A BUILDING, IT'S CONSIDERED AN OUTBREAK.

AND THEN IF IT'S AN OUTBREAK, WE HAVE TO FOLLOW CERTAIN PROCEDURES.

AND AMONGST THOSE PROCEDURES THAT WE HAVE TO FOLLOW IS THAT WE HAVE TO EXCLUDE ANY STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT VACCINATED FOR 21 DAYS.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE TO INCLUDE ANY STAFF MEMBER WHO DOES NOT HAVE PROOF OF VACCINATION FOR 21 DAYS.

SO THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS OF EXCLUSIONS FOR BOTH STAFF AND STUDENTS IF THOSE CASES RISE TO A CERTAIN LEVEL.

SO I'M JUST GIVING THE BOARD AND OUR COMMUNITY A HEADS UP THAT AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DO NOT HAVE ANY LEEWAY IN. THOSE ARE STATE AND COUNTY PROVISIONS THAT WE ARE HAVE TO FOLLOW FROM THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT.

SO THERE'S THAT. THAT'S THE BAD NEWS, SO TO SPEAK.

THERE ARE SOME GOOD THINGS TO TALK ABOUT.

I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE TUKES VALLEY AUTUMN FESTIVAL ON FRIDAY, AND IT WAS AN OUTSTANDING TURNOUT.

I COULDN'T EVEN FIND A PARKING SPOT.

I WAS ASKED TO GO AND BE THE JUDGE OF THE COSTUME PARTY.

AND LAST YEAR AT THE COSTUME PARTY, THEY HAD TEN THE COSTUME CONTEST, THEY HAD TEN PARTICIPANTS.

AND THIS YEAR IN THE COSTUME CONTEST, THEY HAD 115 PARTICIPANTS.

SO TRY TO CHOOSE THE TOP THREE.

EASY. YEAH. YEAH.

MY WIFE IS.

MY WIFE WAS PULLED IN AS A JUDGE, AND SHE MADE SOME STUDENTS CRY.

AND SHE NEVER WANTS TO DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T PICK THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

SO SHE WAS HEARTBREAKING.

SO BUT IT WAS WONDERFUL.

THE TURNOUT. A LOT OF SMILING FACES.

PEOPLE WERE HAPPY, AND IT WAS OUTSTANDING.

OUTSTANDING TURNOUT. SO KUDOS TO TUKES THE SCHOOL AND THE STAFF AND THE PRINCIPALS, BUT ALSO KUDOS TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY PUT ON BY THE PTO OVER THERE AND THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.

IT IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE AS JULIA POINTED OUT, IT IS AN EXAMPLE OF OUR COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER AND SUPPORTING THOSE KINDS OF THINGS SO THAT IT'S ALL

[00:50:06]

OKAY. IT'S ALL POINTED OUT.

SO THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT.

AND THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, OCTOBER IS PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION MONTH.

AND SO I WANTED TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY.

WE HAVE 42 ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS AND PRINCIPALS THAT SERVE IN THE BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS SYSTEM, AND I WANTED TO EXTEND OUR HEARTFELT APPRECIATION AND ADMIRATION FOR THE WORK WE DO BECAUSE, AS YOU POINTED OUT, JACKIE SO ELOQUENTLY, IT'S NOT AN EASY JOB.

IT'S A TOUGH JOB, AND THESE PEOPLE GIVE IT THEIR ALL.

SO THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS.

AND WITH THAT I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLY WHITTEN.

GOOD EVENING BOARD.

IF YOU MISSED THE FALL FESTIVAL ON FRIDAY, THERE IS ONE AT YACOLT TOMORROW NIGHT STARTING AT 5:00.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, JOIN ME THERE.

WE HAVE A PRESENTATION WE WANT TO LOOP BACK.

AS YOU RECALL IN THE POWERPOINT.

AS WE DISCUSSED IN JULY, WE HAD SIX ITEMS THAT WE COMMITTED TO LOOK FURTHER AT BASED ON SOME OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS AND THE THINGS THAT WE HAD HEARD FOR OUR PROCEDURE.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO GO OVER THOSE.

WE SAID THAT WE WOULD SHARE SOME INFORMATION WITH YOU.

WE'VE MADE SOME MODIFICATIONS AGAIN TO THE PROCEDURE.

THESE WERE THE SIX THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT IN JULY.

WE TALKED ABOUT SOLICITING FEEDBACK ON THE SCOPE OF THE CONCERN RELATED TO THE LIBRARY COLLECTIONS THAT WE HAVE, ASSESSING THE PROCESS FOR CHOOSING THE BOOKS, EXPLORING THE EXPANSION OF OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE.

WHILE THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE IS PART OF A DIFFERENT POLICY AND PROCEDURE, THEY ARE REFERENCED IN POLICY AND PROCEDURE 2021.

AND SO THEIR ROLE IS FOR THE REVIEW OF BOOKS IS IN THAT POLICY.

SO WE'LL TALK A BIT ABOUT THAT AND EXPLORE THE OPTIONS BEYOND BOOK STAYING OR GOING THROUGH THE IMC REVIEW PROCESS.

WE WILL TALK ABOUT THAT, WHAT WE EXPLORED WITH OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS.

AND THEN ALSO THERE WAS CONFUSION ABOUT THE PROCESS FOR PARENTS WHO DO WISH TO RESTRICT ACCESS TO CERTAIN BOOKS OR EVEN THE LIBRARY COLLECTION IN ITS ENTIRETY.

SO WE WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE TO MAKE THAT MORE VISIBLE FOR OUR FAMILIES.

AND THAT WILL BE AN ONGOING PIECE THAT WE WILL BE PUBLICIZING EACH YEAR.

AND THEN THE LAST AREA THAT WE TALKED ABOUT WAS ASSESSING THE PROCESS FOR INFORMING PARENTS, GUARDIANS OF THE BOOKS AND THEIR CHILD'S CHECKOUT.

SO WHAT? WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

BEFORE WE GO ON, WE HAVE A NUMBER OF SLIDES FOR YOU TO COVER EACH ONE OF THOSE THINGS.

BUT WHAT I WANT TO SAY IS THIS PROCESS INCLUDED A NUMBER OF PEOPLE.

I REALLY WANT TO THANK OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE.

WE ALLISON AND I MET WITH THEM A TIME OR TWO IN REGARDS TO THEIR INPUT ABOUT WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE TO EXPAND THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE, WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE FOR THEIR PROCESS TO ASSURE THAT THEIR PROCESS IS A CONSISTENT PROCESS.

SO WE MET WITH THEM.

WE ALSO MET WITH OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS, BOTH THE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER LIBRARIANS WE MET WITH ALONE, AND THEN WE MET WITH ALL OF OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS TOGETHER, WHICH WAS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE NEEDED TO BE BACK INTO SCHOOL BEFORE WE COULD LOOP BACK TO YOU WITH AN UPDATE.

SO WE MET WITH THEM, AND I WANT TO THANK THEM BECAUSE THEY PROVIDED A LOT OF FEEDBACK AND THEY HAD RESOURCES FOR US TO REACH OUT TO AS WELL.

CONNECTIONS WITH THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION AND THEIR CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER TEACHER LIBRARIANS IN OTHER DISTRICTS.

SO WE WERE ABLE TO GET FEEDBACK FROM THEM.

THE OTHER THING THAT WE WERE ABLE TO DO IS WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE SOME TIME TO REVIEW OTHER POLICIES AND PROCEDURES ACROSS THE STATE, WHICH WAS INFORMATIVE AND ALSO GAVE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO LOOK AT WAYS THAT WE COULD STRENGTHEN OUR PROCEDURE BY TAKING PIECES OF OTHER PROCEDURES THAT WE FELT ADDRESSED.

SOME OF THE COMMUNITY CONCERNS THAT WE'VE HEARD HERE.

I DO WANT TO THANK AMANDA, HER TEAM AS WELL.

THEY DID A GREAT JOB.

WE HAVE A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WE WERE SEEKING FEEDBACK ON, BUT OUR LIBRARY COLLECTION WAS ONE OF THOSE.

AND SO I'D LIKE TO LOOP BACK TO YOU ALL ABOUT THOSE SURVEY RESULTS AND TELL YOU WHAT WE HEARD.

[00:55:07]

SO LET'S START WITH THAT.

WE'LL START WITH THE SURVEY RESULTS.

YOU CAN SEE HERE THAT AS WE SURVEYED ALL PARTICIPANTS IN THE IN THE BAR GRAPH, YOU CAN SEE THAT THAT'S A COMPILATION OF WHAT YOU SEE ON THE SIDE THAT MOST 69% OF PARTICIPANTS WHO TOOK THE SURVEY WERE SATISFIED WITH WHAT WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING.

HOWEVER, WE'RE STILL GOING TO MAKE SOME MODIFICATIONS.

18% THOUGHT IT WAS INSUFFICIENT AND 12% REALLY HAD NO FEEDBACK TO GIVE US.

AND SO THEY WERE FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD, THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY OPINION ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, SO THEY DIDN'T PROVIDE US ANY FEEDBACK IN THAT AREA. THE INTERESTING PIECE IS AS YOU DELVE INTO THE INSUFFICIENT PIECE, THERE WAS DIFFERENT INFORMATION BASED ON WHETHER THE FEEDBACK WAS FROM STUDENTS OR FROM PARENTS OR FROM DIFFERENT LEVELS.

A VARIETY OF FEEDBACK.

SO SOME WAS ARE YOUR THE BOOKS ARE TOO EXPLICIT.

THAT'S ONE OF THE THEORIES THAT WE ARE HEARING HERE AND THAT CARRIED OVER INTO SOME OF THE SURVEY.

SOME OF THE SURVEY WAS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE, THAT THEY'RE INSUFFICIENT IN PROVIDING A VARIETY OF TITLES AND THEMES FOR OUR FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND THAT SHOWED UP IN BOTH PARENTS AND GUARDIANS, AS WELL AS IN STUDENT SURVEY RESPONSES.

THE OTHER THING THAT WAS INTERESTING IS YOU COULD ALSO TELL THAT THERE WAS A DESIRE BOTH FOR LIBRARIES TO CHANGE OR BE MODIFIED IN SOME WAY, AND IN SOME PLACES IT WAS WE WANT A LIBRARY BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE LIBRARIES AT OUR ALES.

SO THERE WAS A VARIETY OF REASONS WHY PEOPLE USE THE INSUFFICIENT COLLECTION FEEDBACK.

FOR US, IT WAS A VERY WELL OUR MOST PARTICIPATED SURVEY THAT WE'VE EVER HAD.

IN FACT THE NUMBERS I CAN FIND MY LITTLE CHEAT SHEET.

MAYBE AMANDA CAN HELP ME WITH THE NUMBERS 2000 2250 PARTICIPANTS.

SO CERTAINLY MUCH, MUCH MORE THAN WE TYPICALLY SEE ON A SURVEY.

SO REALLY FOCUSED IN, ON LIBRARIES START AND END TIMES FOR SCHOOLS AS WELL AS CELL PHONE USE.

SO THOSE WERE THE THREE AREAS THAT WE SURVEYED.

SO LOTS OF PARTICIPATION.

AND IT WAS A SURVEY THAT SPANNED SEVERAL WEEKS.

WE JUST FINALIZED THE SURVEY ON THE 18TH OF OCTOBER.

SO A WELL REPRESENTED GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS GAVE US FEEDBACK ON THE SURVEY RESULTS.

GO AHEAD. AND SO ACCESS PROCESS.

ASSESSING THE PROCESS FOR CHOOSING BOOKS.

THIS WAS A MULTI-STEP REVIEW THAT WE LOOKED AT.

WE TALKED TO OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS.

THEY GAINED FEEDBACK FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ABOUT WAYS IN WHICH THEY SELECT LIBRARY BOOKS, AS WELL AS THE TRAINING WE LEARNED.

WE LEARNED. ALISON AND I LEARNED QUITE A BIT ABOUT THE PROCESS THAT TEACHER LIBRARIANS GO THROUGH DURING THEIR STUDY, AND HOW THEY'RE TAUGHT TO USE BOOK REVIEWS AND A VARIETY OF SOURCES TO SELECT THEIR THE BOOKS THAT GO IN LIBRARIES.

SO THERE'S QUITE A PROCESS THAT THEY USE.

THEY, THEY VOICED A DESIRE FOR WANTING INCREASED TRANSPARENCY IN THE WAY IN WHICH THEY ASSURE THAT PARENTS HAVE CHOICE IN THEIR CHILD'S ACCESS.

THERE WAS A VOICE THAT SAID, YOU KNOW, WE BELIEVE THAT PARENTS SHOULD HAVE SOME SAY IN WHETHER THEIR CHILD HAS ACCESS TO WHATEVER MATERIALS WE HAVE AVAILABLE.

THEY PROVIDED VALUABLE FEEDBACK THAT ADDED A LOT OF CLARITY.

WE WENT THROUGH A PROCESS USING GOOGLE TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE CHANGES THAT WE'D MADE.

WHEN WE PULLED PIECES FROM OTHER PROCEDURES FROM ACROSS THE STATE, WE GOT THEIR FEEDBACK ON WHAT THINGS WOULD WORK, WHAT THINGS WOULDN'T, HOW WOULD THEY DO THAT? BECAUSE PART OF THE STRUGGLE IS IMPLEMENTATION AND MAKING SURE THAT WHATEVER WE PUT IN PROCEDURE CAN BE FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH.

AND SO WE MADE SURE THAT WE WE GOT THAT, THAT INFORMATION FROM THEM.

WE ADDED A PIECE THAT EVERY YEAR THEY WOULD MEET IN THE FALL TO REVIEW THEIR SELECTION CRITERIA.

THIS CAME OUT BECAUSE OF THE IDEA AROUND CONSISTENCY.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE BEING VERY CONSISTENT IN THE PROCESS.

ACROSS THE BOARD, TEACHER LIBRARIANS GO THROUGH THEIR TRAINING AT DIFFERENT TIMES.

ONE MIGHT HAVE GONE THROUGH THE TRAINING 25 YEARS AGO.

[01:00:01]

ONE WENT THROUGH IT FIVE YEARS AGO.

IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT CHANGES IN THEIR PRACTICE, IT SHOULD BE BROUGHT FORWARD SO THAT THEY CAN TALK THROUGH THAT AND REMAIN CONSISTENT.

SO THEY WANTED TO WE WANT THEY WANT TO CONTINUE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT BEING CONSISTENT ACROSS THE DISTRICT AS THEY SELECT BOOKS AT EACH LEVEL.

WE ALSO, AS I SAID, WE REVIEWED THE STATE AND LOCAL DISTRICTS TO ENSURE THERE WAS CONSISTENCY, AND THIS INCLUDED OUR BEST PRACTICES OF WHAT WE WERE DOING.

WE ADDED SOME PIECES.

WE ADDED A STATEMENT IN THERE.

WHEN IT'S IN THE SELECTION PART OF THE PROCEDURE, WE ADDED A STATEMENT THAT SAYS WITHSTAND GREATER SCRUTINY OF LITERARY MERIT IF THE BOOK CONTAINS SEX, PROFANITY, VIOLENCE AND OR OBSCENITY BECAUSE THAT'S AN IMPORTANT PIECE TO US.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE HAS TO BE A REASON WHY THAT PIECE OF MATERIAL REMAINS IN THE LIBRARY, IF IT HAS, IF IT HAS MATERIALS IN IT, THAT MIGHT BE PERCEIVED AS AS QUESTIONABLE FOR OUR STUDENTS, DEPENDING ON AGE.

ADDITIONALLY, WE ADDED PROFESSIONAL REVIEWS, PUBLISHED LISTS AND OTHER SOURCES.

WE ACTUALLY DIVIDED THAT PART OF THE PROCEDURE INTO THREE SEPARATE PIECES.

WE INCLUDED ONE OF THE ONE OF THE MATERIALS REVIEW MATERIALS THAT WAS BROUGHT FORWARD HERE TO THE BOARD WAS COMMON SENSE MEDIA.

THE TEACHER LIBRARIANS WERE IN HIGH SUPPORT OF THAT THAT MATERIAL.

AND SO THEY ASKED THAT WE MAKE SURE WE PROVIDE A SUBSCRIPTION TO THEM FOR THAT.

CHANGES TO THE IMC.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE CONSIDERED, WELL, SEVERAL THINGS THAT WE CONSIDERED WHEN IT COMES TO THE IMC.

ONE IS ADDITIONAL MEMBERS.

AND AFTER REVIEWING THAT TOPIC WITH OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE, CERTAINLY THE EXPANSION TO INCLUDE STUDENTS TO INCLUDE YET ANOTHER PARENT, ANOTHER TEACHER LIBRARIAN AND ANOTHER TEACHING AND LEARNING STAFF WAS RECEIVED WITH STRONG PRAISE.

OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE PEOPLE HAVE A TERM THAT THEY SERVE BY ADDING SOME MORE MEMBERS.

FOR ONE THING, IT WILL ALLOW SOME CONSISTENCY IN WHEN TURNOVER HAPPENS.

SO IT WILL ALLOW FOR GREATER CONSISTENCY, LESS TURNOVER.

SO IT'S A ONE.

SO A THERE COULD BE AN EQUAL OR NEAR EQUAL AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT ARE TRANSFERRING OFF OF THAT EVERY THREE YEARS, AND A LARGE MAJORITY STAYING SO THAT IT PROVIDES CONSISTENCY FROM ONE YEAR TO ANOTHER.

WE DID TALK HERE IN JULY ABOUT THE IDEA OF ADDING AN ADDITIONAL COMMITTEE IN ORDER TO REVIEW MATERIALS MORE QUICKLY. AS WE TALK THROUGH THAT, THERE WAS A HUGE CONCERN AROUND THE CONSISTENCY OF IMPLEMENTATION BECAUSE YOU CHANGE MEMBERS OF A COMMITTEE, IT'S REALLY HARD.

DESPITE USING THE SAME RUBRIC, IT CAN BECOME VERY HARD TO REMAIN CONSISTENT.

AND THE ADDITIONAL COST WAS ANOTHER FACTOR THAT PLAYED INTO US NOT CHOOSING TO ADD AN EXTRA COMMITTEE.

OUR COST LAST YEAR FOR OUR INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE WAS ABOUT $2,000 THIS YEAR, WITH THE ADDED BOOK REVIEWS AND THE OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES THAT WILL COME IN, WE EXPECT IT TO RUN US ABOUT $20,000.

SO THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL COST FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS PROCEDURE, WHICH I THINK IS AN IMPORTANT PIECE FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW AS WELL.

THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE, AND THE TEACHER LIBRARIANS WEIGHED IN ON RESTRICTING ACCESS.

SO NOT JUST DECIDING IS A BOOK IN OR IS A BOOK OUT, BUT ALSO DISCUSSING WHAT LEVEL IT MIGHT BE MOST APPROPRIATE FOR AND MAKING A DECISION BASED ON LEVEL.

WE EXPLORED OTHER THINGS ABOUT A SPECIAL SECTION AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, AND FELT LIKE ALL OF THOSE THINGS NOT ONLY WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO CONSISTENTLY MONITOR, BUT WOULD ALSO POSSIBLY BRING ATTENTION TO HOW WOULD YOU PUT THOSE OUT THERE? THE RESTRICTED SECTION, EVERYBODY'S GOING TO NOW WANT IT, AND THEY NEVER DID BEFORE.

SO WE DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS SUCH A GOOD IDEA.

SO WE THINK BY LEVEL, THIS THIS IS AN AREA THAT I, I WANT TO THANK A LOT OF PEOPLE FOR GIVING US INPUT ON.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT WE DID TO INFORM PARENTS OF THEIR ABILITY TO RESTRICT AND TO CHANGE THE ACCESS FOR THEIR OWN CHILD WAS CLEAR AND CONSISTENTLY COMMUNICATED.

SO AMANDA AND HER TEAM MADE A LANDING PAGE.

[01:05:03]

GO AHEAD AND SHOW US THAT PAGE.

YOU CAN SEE HERE IT'S LIBRARY CATALOG.

YOU CAN EITHER GO TO THE MAIN WEBSITE, PUT IN LIBRARY CATALOG.

THERE'S MANY WAYS TO GET TO THIS PAGE.

THERE'S ALSO A LINK IN THE PROCEDURE WILL BE A LINK IN THE PROCEDURE.

WHEN YOU GO TO THIS PAGE YOU CAN GO SPECIFICALLY TO YOUR OWN CHILD'S SCHOOL AND SEE WHAT THE LIST OF BOOKS ARE.

TAKE US TO ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS, FOR INSTANCE.

ALL OF THE LANDING PAGES LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR.

YOU CAN SEE THE RECENTLY ADDED, AND THEN YOU CAN ALSO GO DOWN AND SEE BY TOPICS.

SO THOSE ARE ESSENTIALLY BY GENRE.

AND SO YOU CAN GO IN THERE AND SPECIFICALLY LOOK AT A SPECIFIC GENRE.

YOU CAN ALSO SEARCH FOR SPECIFIC TITLES.

SO THERE'S MULTIPLE WAYS THAT A PARENT CAN GET INTO THIS.

GET IN AND LOG IN.

A PARENT WILL NEED TO USE THE STUDENT LOGIN, THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS A PARENT LOGIN TO THIS SYSTEM.

THIS IS INTENDED FOR STUDENTS, BUT THEY CAN USE THEIR STUDENTS LOGIN.

AND IF THEIR STUDENTS DON'T HAVE IT, THEY CAN CERTAINLY REACH OUT TO THE TEACHER LIBRARIAN TO GET THAT.

THANK YOU.

SO WE ADDED THE WEBSITE, AND THEN WE WILL DO OUR ANNUAL NOTIFICATION AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH SCHOOL YEAR.

WE'LL ALSO BE ENCOURAGING OUR INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS TO BE PUTTING THAT IN THEIR NEWSLETTERS.

AND THEN WE ADDED IN THE POLICY OR IN THE PROCEDURE, EXCUSE ME, IN THE PROCEDURE, THE STATEMENT THAT GIVES THE PARENTS THE PATH TO THAT SAME LANDING PAGE.

AND THEY CAN EITHER CLICK THERE IF THEY'RE IN THE PROCEDURE, OR AGAIN, THEY CAN GO TO THE WEBSITE PUT IN LIBRARY CATALOG.

FRANKLY, IF YOU PUT IN LIBRARY, YOU'LL GET THERE AS WELL.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT IN MUCH TO GET TO THE PAGE.

AND THEN THEY ARE ABLE TO SIGN IN AND, AND SEE WHAT THEIR CHILD HAS CHECKED OUT.

BUT THEY CAN ALSO SEE WHAT'S IN THE LIBRARY.

SO IT'S IT WILL GIVE THEM BOTH ACCESS TO WHAT THEIR CHILD HAS AS WELL AS THE ENTIRETY OF THE LIBRARY.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT PAGE.

OH. OH, FUNNY.

SO, THE PROCESS FOR INFORMING PARENTS OF THE BOOKS WE, WE DISCUSSED IN JULY WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE WERE ABLE TO CONNECT SKYWARD AND DESTINY.

WE UNFORTUNATELY DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO HAVE THOSE TWO PROGRAMS TALK TO EACH OTHER, SO THAT'S WHY WE HAD TO DO AS MUCH TO CREATE THE WEBSITE AND THE LANDING PAGE SO THAT PARENTS CAN STILL HAVE ACCESS.

PARTLY THAT COULD BE BECAUSE WE ARE MOVING AWAY FROM SKYWARD, AND NEXT YEAR WE'LL BE MOVING TO CUMULATIVE OR CU AS OUR STUDENT RECORD SYSTEM.

WE MAY HAVE THE ABILITY TO IMPLEMENT THAT.

IT WILL BE A PAID ADD ON TO CUMULATIVE, BUT WE MAY HAVE THAT ABILITY WHEN WE HAVE THE NEW SYSTEM.

AND WE WILL LOOK INTO THAT WHEN WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED CU NEXT YEAR.

WE DID ALSO LOOK INTO AUTOMATED EMAILS OF ALL MATERIALS CHECKED OUT OF THE LIBRARY.

IT COULD BE TURNED ON, BUT IT WOULD MEAN THAT EVERY SINGLE THING THAT IS CHECKED OUT OF THE LIBRARY, FROM A TEXTBOOK TO A CHROMEBOOK TO A WILL GENERATE A PARENT EMAIL BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW.

WE DON'T THINK THAT'S A GOOD IDEA.

WE GET COMPLAINTS ON EVERY SINGLE SNOW DAY OF THE NUMBER OF NOTIFICATIONS THAT GO OUT, SO I DON'T THINK THAT'S A GOOD PLAN.

BASED ON THE SURVEY RESULTS THAT WE THAT WE RECEIVED, I DON'T THINK WE'D BE MAKING MANY.

AND IT IS AN ALL OR NOTHING.

WE CAN'T TURN IT ON FOR ONE FAMILY OR NOT ANOTHER.

I WISH WE COULD.

AND SO WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE AT LEAST MADE SURE THAT WE HAD A PROCESS OUTLINED FOR PARENTS TO BLOCK BOOKS FOR THEIR, FOR THEIR CHILD.

AND WE, WE BELIEVE AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT PARENTS AND GUARDIANS DO HAVE THE RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO DETERMINE THEIR, THEIR CHILD'S LIBRARY ACCESS AND THE RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM THROUGH THE LIBRARY.

SO I BELIEVE THAT WE'VE DONE THAT THROUGH OUR WEBSITE.

AND THE ABILITY TO GET IN AND REVIEW THE BOOKS AND SEE WHAT CHILDREN HAVE.

THEIR CHILDREN HAVE CHECKED OUT.

SO GO AHEAD, LISA.

ALL RIGHT. QUESTIONS? THAT WAS REALLY GOOD, JULIE.

YES. VERY THOROUGH AND THANK YOU.

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE INFORMATION.

A LOT TO DIGEST.

JUST FOR THE SAKE OF TRANSPARENCY, YOU'RE SAYING THAT THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE COST THE DISTRICT ABOUT $2,000.

[01:10:08]

USED TO. USED TO A YEAR AGO.

WHY IS IT 20,000 THIS YEAR? BECAUSE PAYING FOR.

WE WILL BE REVIEWING A BOOK EACH MONTH UNTIL WE GET ALL OF THE CHALLENGED BOOKS THAT WE HAVE ON THE DOCKET REVIEWED.

AND SO IN THE PAST, WE HADN'T HAD BOOKS BEING CHALLENGED.

AND SO THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE WASN'T BEING THEY WERE BEING PAID FOR A HANDFUL OF MEETINGS OUTSIDE OF THE THEIR WORK DAY.

AND NOW THEY'RE BEING PAID FOR ONE A MONTH.

PLUS, THE TEACHERS HAVE TO READ THE BOOK IN THEIR ENTIRETY AND WE PAY THEM FOR TWO HOURS.

ALTHOUGH MANY OF THOSE BOOKS TAKE A LOT LONGER THAN TWO HOURS, BUT WE PAY THEM FOR TWO HOURS OF READING TIME.

SO THE ADDITIONAL COSTS ARE THE MEETING TIMES, AS WELL AS TWO HOURS TO TO READ MATERIALS, THE PURCHASE OF THE MATERIALS.

OKAY. AND MANY OF THE BOOKS.

THAT'S AN IMPORTANT THING THAT DENNY SAYS THE BOOKS BECAUSE MANY OF THOSE BOOKS WE ONLY HAD ONE COPY OF, AND NOW WE HAVE TO BUY A COPY FOR EVERY PERSON ON THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE. WE'VE BEEN WE'VE TRIED TO GET SOME FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY AND OTHER THINGS, SO WE DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE THEM, BUT THERE'S NO OTHER WAY THAN TO READ THEM IN THEIR ENTIRETY FOR THEM TO REVIEW IT.

SO WE DO HAVE TO GO OUT AND GET THOSE BOOKS.

SO BASICALLY THE THE MONEY IS REALLY TIME.

YES. YEAH. FOR THE MOST PART.

OKAY. I JUST WANTED I JUST WANTED THAT TO BE TRANSPARENT.

YEAH. THANK YOU. AND THERE'D BE NO POSSIBILITY OF JUST DOING A VOLUNTEER THING WHERE PEOPLE WOULD.

I DON'T THINK WE COULD GET THAT REPRESENTATION.

OKAY. YEAH, UNFORTUNATELY.

WHAT ABOUT THE STUDENTS AND THE PARENTS ON THAT REGARD? YEAH, WELL, WE'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO PAY OUTSIDE OF THAT.

WE CERTAINLY TALKED ABOUT IT.

YEAH. I MEAN, JUST TO BE CLEAR, IT IS A VOLUNTEER.

IT IS. IT'S A VOLUNTEER FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.

FOR STUDENTS? YEAH.

I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT WHAT IS GREATER, THE WORDING.

GREATER SCRUTINY.

I CAN'T SPEAK. SCRUTINY.

SCRUTINY. AND THEN JUST, YOU KNOW, IS IT A CHECKLIST? IS IT SPECIFIC GUIDELINES THAT.

THAT WAS KIND OF VAGUE TO ME.

YEAH. YEAH. I THINK THAT WAS A STATEMENT THAT WAS MEANT TO THAT, WE ARE WELL AWARE THAT THERE IS CONCERN ABOUT THOSE ASPECTS BEING IN BOOKS, AND THE NEED FOR WHO IS EVER REVIEWING THOSE BOOKS, TO CAREFULLY LOOK AT THEM IN TERMS OF THE LITERARY VALUE THAT THEY'RE THERE, THAT THEY'RE NOT JUST THERE FOR THE SAKE OF WHAT'S THE WORD I'M LOOKING FOR? WELL, THAT THEY NEED TO SERVE A PURPOSE IN HELPING THE STUDENTS.

FOR INSTANCE, IF IT WAS IN IF ONE OF THE BOOKS WAS ON AN AP READING LIST, THAT THAT WOULD BE A REASON WHY THAT BOOK WERE IN A LIBRARY, BECAUSE IT WAS PART OF AN AP READING LIST, OR IT WAS PART OF A, YOU KNOW, FOR THE FOR INSTANCE TONI MORRISON WROTE A BOOK CALLED BELOVED AND BELOVED.

THERE IS A SCENE IN THERE THAT ADDS TO THE CONTEXT OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE OVERALL MISSION, SO IT JUST WOULDN'T BE FOR GRATUITOUS PURPOSES FOR NO REASON.

BUT THERE WAS AN IMPORTANCE IN TERMS OF MOVING THE THEME FORWARD, OR AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MORAL OF THE STORY OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

SO GREATER SCRUTINY, BECAUSE CERTAINLY OUR, OUR, OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS WERE EVER PRESENT WITH THE IDEA THAT THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS SOME HIGH STANDARDS IN THAT AREA.

AND THEY NEEDED TO TAKE A CAREFUL LOOK AT THAT.

AND THEN I LOOKED AT COMMON SENSE AND KIND OF DUG INTO THEM A LITTLE BIT.

AND I'M JUST KIND OF WONDERING, YOU KNOW, DO THEY LEAN A CERTAIN WAY OR ARE THEY IN THE MIDDLE OR ARE THEY LIBERAL OR ARE THEY CONSERVATIVE? THAT'S WHAT WE. ARE THEY INDEPENDENT? RIGHT. WHAT? WE HEARD THIS.

THEY WERE THEY WERE INDEPENDENT IN OUR STUDIES AND SOME OF OUR IT WAS ACTUALLY WE HAD GOTTEN THAT SOURCE FROM A SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE EAST SIDE, WHO WAS, I THINK, REFLECTIVE OF OUR COMMUNITY VALUES.

AND THEY HAD BEGUN USING COMMON SENSE MEDIA.

SO THAT'S WHY WE INVESTIGATED THAT, AND THAT'S WHY WE LOOKED AT THEM AS A POSSIBLE OPTION.

AND THEN ANOTHER QUESTION I HAD WAS HOW OFTEN WILL THE WEEDING OCCUR? BECAUSE I DIDN'T SEE THAT EITHER.

IS THAT WEEKLY MONTHLY QUARTERLY.

I THINK THE WEEDING OCCURS ON A IT'S PRETTY FREQUENTLY WHAT I WILL TELL YOU.

I DID NOT REALIZE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS PROCESS IS THAT THE LIBRARIES, PARTICULARLY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, ARE EVER EVOLVING.

[01:15:08]

SO WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT HERE THINKING THAT THEY DID MOST OF THEIR PURCHASE AT THE END OF THE YEAR.

THAT'S NOT REALLY THE CASE.

THEY, THE TEACHER LIBRARIANS, GIVE STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE THEM INPUT ABOUT THINGS THAT THEY'RE ASKING FOR AND THEY GO ON A LIST.

THEY THEN REVIEW THAT LIST AGAINST.

A BOOK LIST AND NOW MANY REVIEWS.

AND THEN THEY DETERMINE IT'S WHETHER IT IS A VALID, VALID PIECE OR NOT.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS EVEN ON THE DESELECTION THAT WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT IS WE SAID, WELL, IF A BOOK HASN'T BEEN CHECKED OUT IN X NUMBER OF YEARS, JUST TAKE IT OUT.

BUT THEY MADE A VERY GOOD POINT IN THAT OFTENTIMES BOOKS, THEY GO THROUGH KIND OF A CYCLICAL NATURE, PARTICULARLY WHEN THERE'S AN INTEREST IN A PARTICULAR TYPE OF BOOK BECAUSE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING COMES OUT, A MOVIE COMES OUT, OR, OR SOCCER IS ON THE RISE.

AND SO NOW ANYTHING RELATED TO SOCCER OR ANYBODY WHO PLAYS, THERE'S JUST THIS INTERESTING THING THAT EVOLVES BASED ON WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THEIR AREA OR, OR IN THEIR LIVES EVEN.

AND SO THEY THEY MADE THE POINT THAT YOU JUST CAN'T SAY IT HASN'T BEEN CHECKED OUT IN FOUR YEARS AND GET RID OF IT.

IT'S NOT THAT IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE.

IT'S A BIT MORE COMPLEX THAN THAT.

SO ANOTHER QUESTION ARE THESE BOOKS THEN REMOVED IF THEY GO THROUGH THE PROCESS? YES. AND THEN WHAT HAPPENS TO THEM THEN? THEY'RE JUST REMOVED AND.

YEAH, THEY BECOME PART OF OUR SURPLUS.

ANY ITEM IN THE DISTRICT THAT WAS DISTRICT, WE HAVE TO GIVE IT TO THE, YOU KNOW, NOBODY CLAIMS IT.

THEN IT GOES AWAY.

OKAY. AT WHAT POINT ARE THEY REMOVED? WHEN THE IMC REMOVES IT? IF THEY DEEM THAT IT'S NOT APPROPRIATE FOR THE LIBRARY, THEN IT GOES TO SURPLUS.

IF NOTHING DURING A SURPLUS SALE, IF NOTHING GETS SOLD, THEN THEN IT IS ALLOWED TO BE THROWN AWAY.

SO, FOR INSTANCE THE IMC HAS REVIEWED THREE BOOKS SO FAR THAT WERE ON THE CHALLENGE LIST.

TWO OF THOSE BOOKS WERE PLACED BACK INTO THE LIBRARY.

ONE OF THOSE BOOKS WAS REMOVED.

WHICH ONE WAS THAT? DO YOU KNOW? I DO KNOW IT WAS THE BOOK THAT WAS SHARED BY THE INDIVIDUAL WHO READ PORTIONS OF IT TO THE.

SO IT WAS CALLED DEAD END, AND THAT ONE WAS REMOVED BY THE IMC COMMITTEE.

SO I DID LOVE THAT ANY PARENT CAN BLOCK AND THE WHOLE THING THAT WAS ADDED THERE.

I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY GREAT.

I THINK THAT GIVES A LOT OF POWER TO PARENTS.

THEY JUST NEED TO BE MADE AWARE OF IT AND THEY NEED TO DIG IN IF THEY'RE CONCERNED ABOUT THAT.

I HAD ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT IF AN INFORMAL PROCESS DOESN'T RESOLVE THE MATTER.

THIS IS SOMETHING ABOUT THE COMPLAINANT.

I'M GOING TO HAVE TO FIND IT.

YEAH, THE COMPLAINANT, IF IT'S UNDER B ON LET'S SEE.

I THINK WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. YEAH.

YEAH. I HAD A QUESTION ABOUT THAT, JUST BECAUSE I KNOW IT USED TO SAY THREE YEARS AND THEN IT WENT TO FIVE YEARS.

PART OF THAT IS OUR FEAR IN THE NUMBER OF BOOKS.

WHAT WE DON'T KNOW.

IT'S GOING TO BE DISCONTINUM.

YEAH. AND THAT WAS THAT'S ALSO THE REASON THAT I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTICE THAT IF THERE COULD COME A TIME WHERE WE WOULD NEED THE ABILITY OF OUR BOARD PRESIDENT AND OUR SUPERINTENDENT TO DECIDE WHAT THE ORDER IS.

SO IF ONE OR MORE BOOKS COME IN AT A TIME, THAT'S WHY WE WANT PEOPLE TO MAKE A REQUEST ONE AT A TIME.

SO THEY COMMUNICATE THEIR PRIORITY OF OUR REVIEW.

BUT IF ONE COMES FROM BATTLE GROUND AND ONE COMES FROM PRAIRIE AT THE SAME TIME, THEN WE WOULD WANT TO ASK FOR INPUT AS TO OKAY, WHICH ONE FIRST. I THINK THIS COMES BACK TO THE POINT THAT SHELLY MADE, WHERE WE REVIEWED A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT POLICIES FROM AROUND THE STATE, AND WE FOUND THAT FIVE YEARS WAS A COMMON NUMBER THAT WAS BEING USED.

FIVE YEARS FOR WHAT? FOR ONCE A CHALLENGE WAS MADE, RECONSIDERED.

YEAH, YEAH. RECONSIDERATION.

AND THEN IF COMMUNITY MEMBERS OR PARENTS WANTED TO KIND OF KNOW ABOUT THE PROCESS OR CAN THEY FIND OUT, LIKE WHERE THAT BOOK IS IN THE PROCESS, IS THERE A WAY FOR THEM TO BE KEPT IN THE LOOP SO THEY'RE AWARE OF? AND I THINK TO SHELLY'S POINT, THAT'S WHY WE ARE RECOMMENDING OR THAT'S WHY WE'RE GOING TO SHIFT IT TO ONE BOOK AT A TIME SO THAT THEY'LL KNOW THAT RATHER THAN IF LIKE IN A RECENT CHALLENGE, WE HAD 15 BOOKS.

[01:20:01]

SO WE, WE, WE ARE TAKING THE BOOKS IN THE ORDER THAT WE LISTED.

BUT SOMETIMES WHEN WE INFORM THE PARENT THAT, WELL, WE'RE DOING THIS BOOK FIRST, THEIR RESPONSE IS, WELL, I DIDN'T WANT YOU TO DO THAT ONE.

I WANTED YOU TO DO THIS ONE.

THAT WAS THE LEAST CONCERNING THIS WAY.

THE IDEA WOULD BE THAT IF A PARENT WERE TO MAKE A CHALLENGE ON A BOOK, WE WOULD GET TO IT.

THEY WOULD KNOW WE WERE GOING TO GET TO IT WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.

SO THEY WOULD KNOW WHERE THE PROCESS IS VERSUS A LONG LIST OF BOOKS.

AND TO YOUR POINT, THEY DON'T KNOW.

BUT ANYBODY WHO MAKES A CHALLENGE IS UPDATED ON A REGULAR BASIS WHEN DECISIONS OF THE IMC ARE MADE.

AND I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO SAY WHEN A PERSON TURNS IN A RECONSIDERATION, IT'S ONE AT A TIME.

WE WERE KIND OF CAUGHT FLAT FOOTED IN THIS.

WE HAD NOT HAD BOOK CHALLENGES IN A VERY LONG TIME.

AND THAT'S THE WAY THE PROCEDURE HAS ALWAYS READ IS ONE AT A TIME.

BUT WE TOOK IN A WHOLE LIST AT THE SAME TIME, AND FRANKLY, WE PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE SAID NO, GIVE US ONE AND ONE AT A TIME AND AND PLEASE GIVE IT TO US IN YOUR PRIORITY. AND THAT THAT WAS OUR ERROR IN THAT.

AND IF WE HAD KNOWN THAT, I THINK THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SATISFYING TO THE INDIVIDUAL WHO GAVE IT TO US, BECAUSE WE WOULD HAVE STARTED WITH THE BOOK THEY WERE MOST CONCERNED WITH. ONCE.

OH. GO AHEAD. NO. GO AHEAD.

ONCE YOU RECEIVE A CHALLENGE ON A BOOK, MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT BOOK GETS IMMEDIATELY PULLED RIGHT.

WELL, IT HAS TO, BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH BOOKS FOR THE IMC TO IT BECAUSE WE'RE USING IT FOR THE IMC WE HAVE.

EVEN IF YOU HAVEN'T STARTED THE IMC ON THAT PARTICULAR BOOK, THEY SAY YOU'VE GOT 10 OR 15 AND THE THEN THE BACKLOG.

ARE ALL THOSE BOOKS PULLED AT THAT POINT ONCE THEY'VE BEEN CHALLENGED, OR IS IT ONLY TOLD ONCE IT STARTS IN THE IMC? I THINK IT I THINK IT HAPPENS ONCE THAT BOOK IS UP FOR REVIEW.

SO IT STAYS IN THE LIBRARY UNTIL IT'S THAT BOOK'S TURN.

NOW WE ARE LOOKING AT MULTIPLE BOOKS AT A TIME CURRENTLY, RIGHT? WE HAVE PULLED MOST OF THE ONES THAT ARE ON THIS LIST, BUT I CAN'T SAY THAT THAT WOULD ALWAYS BE OUR PRACTICE.

YEAH, IT WOULD BE DEPENDING UPON THE BACK LOAD AND HOW MUCH MATERIALS WE HAVE.

RIGHT. SO LIKE A HOLDING RIGHT AREA, IS IT POSSIBLE? IS WHAT I'M HEARING YOU SAY.

SO LIKE IF YOU HAVE A LIST OF 20 BOOKS, THERE'S NO WAY THAT THOSE 20 BOOKS COULD GO TO A LIKE A HOLDING AREA.

WELL, THEY UNTIL THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO BE GONE THROUGH, THEY ARE RIGHT NOW, I GUESS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PROCESS WASN'T BEING MISUSED.

AND THEN ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO ADD IS IF I'M JUST GOING TO PULL NAMES OUT HERE, LET'S SAY, AND I DON'T KNOW ANYBODY THAT'S DONE THIS.

SO I'M NOT TRYING I'M NOT GOING TO SAY A NAME.

I'M GOING TO SAY, SALLY SENDS IN A REQUEST FOR THIS BOOK.

SO THE COMMITTEES READ THE BOOK, THEY MAKE A RECOMMENDATION, THEN SUSIE MAKES THE SAME REQUEST FOR THE SAME BOOK, AND THEN SOMEBODY ELSE.

YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING, RIGHT? THERE'S NOT A NEED TO BE CONTINUOUSLY READING.

RIGHT? SO THAT'S WHY THAT'S WHY THAT THAT'S THAT FIVE YEAR THING.

SO WE WOULD SAY WE WOULD REPORT BACK TO SALLY.

THIS BOOK IS GOING TO REMAIN IN THE LIBRARY.

IF SUSIE WAS THEN NEXT AND SAID, I'D LIKE TO CHALLENGE THAT BOOK, WE WOULD SAY, SUSIE.

THAT BOOK WAS CHALLENGED LAST YEAR AND THE IMC DETERMINED IT WOULD REMAIN IN OUR LIBRARY.

AND THEN THE PARENT COULD SAY, NO, THIS IS NOT A BOOK THAT MY RESTRICT THE BOOK FOR THEIR OWN CHILD, AND A PARENT COULD IMMEDIATELY DO THAT, EVEN IF THE BOOK WAS NOT CHALLENGED OUT OF THE LIBRARY.

YEAH, OKAY. THANK YOU.

I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY SOMETHING YOU SAID.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE I HEARD IT RIGHT, BECAUSE YOU SAID PARENTS AND COMMUNITY ABLE TO CHALLENGE BOOKS.

THAT'S. YEAH, IT'S NOT.

IT'S ONLY PARENTS, EMPLOYEES, STAFF, PARENTS AND STAFF.

PARENTS, STAFF AND STUDENTS.

STUDENTS. PARENT STAFF.

SO NO COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN CHALLENGE A BOOK? NO, THEY HAVE, IT NEEDS TO BE PARENTS.

AND THAT'S OUR THAT'S ALSO BASED ON THE PASSAGE OF THAT NEW PARENT, THE NEW LAW.

THE NEW LAW. YEAH.

SO IT'S BASED OFF OF THAT ALSO.

AND THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS IN THAT.

SO THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW.

YEAH. SORRY.

SO I MEAN I'M NOT SAYING WE ALL NEED TO BE ON THE SAME PAGE.

THE ONE THAT WAS PASSED BY THE LEGISLATURE, I DON'T REMEMBER THE I DON'T REMEMBER THE NUMBER, BUT AND I'M, I'M JUST GUESSING THAT EVEN THOUGH SCHOOL DISTRICTS REALLY BELONG TO THE COMMUNITY, THE LIBRARIES AREN'T AVAILABLE FOR THE COMMUNITIES TO ACCESS MATERIALS ANYWAY.

IS THAT THAT'S TRUE? OKAY. SO ONLY THOSE PEOPLE WHO WOULD BE ABLE TO USE THE LIBRARY CAN CHALLENGE THE LIBRARY MATERIALS? YES, THAT'S A QUESTION.

YES, YES.

SO COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN USE THE LIBRARY, THEN THEY CAN CHALLENGE.

NO THEY CAN'T THEY CANNOT USE THE LIBRARY OR THEY CANNOT USE THE THEY HAVE TO.

AND I THINK THAT MIGHT BE A MISUNDERSTANDING.

YEAH, I THINK IN THE COMMUNITY BECAUSE AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER, I WOULD THINK, WELL, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT KIND OF BELONGS TO ME, I PAY TAXES, SO WHY CAN'T I USE YOUR LIBRARY?

[01:25:08]

THAT WOULD BE MY QUESTION.

I'M JUST. IT'S JUST A RHETORICAL QUESTION BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S ALREADY SETTLED AND THE STATE HAS TOLD US.

BUT I CAN UNDERSTAND THE THINKING.

YEAH. OKAY.

YEAH, I HAVE A QUESTION.

MAYBE TWO. BUT I WANT TO CLARIFY THE CONVERSATION BECAUSE I DIDN'T QUITE FOLLOW A COUPLE OF THINGS.

SO WE'VE HAD 15 BOOKS CHALLENGED.

WE DIDN'T HAVE, WE HAD WE HAD ONE FOR LIKE YEARS AND YEARS.

THERE WAS ONLY 111 YEARS.

SO ALL OF A SUDDEN WE HAD 15 CHALLENGED.

AND THAT WAS BACK LIKE IN MARCH, APRIL.

IT WAS. YEAH, PROBABLY WE RECEIVED A FORMAL REQUEST IN FEBRUARY OR MARCH, APRIL SOMEWHERE IN THERE.

SO WE'VE GOTTEN THROUGH THREE.

YES, THREE THIS YEAR.

OKAY. AND ONE OF THOSE WAS TAKEN OUT.

YES. AND THE OTHER 12 HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE LIBRARIES OR NOT? WELL, THAT'S WHAT I WAS NOT CLEAR.

RIGHT NOW THEY ARE OUT OF THE LIBRARY.

OKAY. AS WE'RE REVIEWING.

OKAY. GOOD GOOD, GOOD. OKAY.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE ORDER.

YES, I UNDERSTOOD THAT ORDERING.

THAT WAS CLEAR. OKAY, SO THE PROCESS IS THIS THIS THERE'S AN ELEMENT IN THE PROCESS THAT'S NOT CLEAR.

AND SOMEBODY ASKED ME ABOUT IT.

SO THE COMMITTEE, THEY ALL READ THE BOOK, AND THEY ALL GO OVER IT AND THINK ABOUT IT.

AND I WOULD IMAGINE I SEE SOME KIND OF MEETING WHERE THEY TALK ABOUT IT.

RIGHT. SO APPARENTLY THEN THERE'S SOMEHOW A DECISION MADE.

THERE'S A VOTE. THERE'S A VOTE.

SO THEY VOTE. SO IS IT LIKE A MAJORITY? YES. SO A MAJORITY VOTE.

THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS. YES.

YES OKAY. OKAY.

ALL RIGHT. AND THERE'S A RUBRIC I ASSUME THAT THEY USE TO REVIEW THE BOOK.

YES. AND THEY TAKE NOTES.

I MEAN, ALISON COULD PROVIDE MORE.

USE THE BOARD POLICY AS OUR RUBRIC.

OKAY. THE PROCEDURE WE USE THAT AS OUR AS OUR RUBRIC.

OKAY. I THINK SO THE IDEA THAT THEY'VE BEEN TAKEN OUT, THAT'S NOT A PART OF THE PROCEDURE.

RIGHT. THAT'S.

NO, WE DID THAT FOR THIS ONE BECAUSE WE WERE HAVING CONCERNS OVER THE NUMBER OF BOOKS THAT WERE REQUESTED AND OUR TIMELINESS IN REVIEWING IT.

EXACTLY. YEAH. YEAH. RIGHT.

AND WE HOPE TO DIMINISH THAT BY THE CHANGE OF THE POLICY THAT SAYS THAT IT'S ONE BOOK AT A TIME FOR A CHALLENGE.

AND THAT THAT MAKES SENSE, RIGHT? EXCEPT LIKE YOU ASKED. BECAUSE THEN THAT WOULD REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT PEOPLE WERE WAITING.

BUT AS YOU POINTED OUT, IF ONE FROM PRAIRIE AND ONE FROM BATTLE GROUND CHALLENGE AT THE SAME TIME, THEN THEN WE'RE BACK IN THE SAME SITUATION, YET ONE FROM WARREN MIDDLE SCHOOL CHALLENGE AND WE CAN GET ONE FROM OVER HERE CHALLENGE.

SO THAT SO IN THE CONSIDERATION OF THAT PROCEDURE.

OKAY. SINCE WE DEEMED ONE OF THE THREE BOOKS ALREADY INAPPROPRIATE.

OKAY, MAYBE FOR THE SAKE OF ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED, THIS IS JUST A SUGGESTION.

JUST A SUGGESTION FOR THE SAKE OF THE FACT THAT WE WANT TO.

WE'RE CONCERNED ABOUT ALL THE STUDENTS AND WHAT NOT JUST A FEW, BUT ALL.

OKAY. IF A BOOK IS CHALLENGED AND IT HAPPENS TO BE 2 OR 3 CHALLENGED AT THE SAME TIME FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THE STUDENTS, MAYBE IT THE FACT THAT IT POTENTIALLY COULD BE HARMFUL, MAYBE THAT WOULD LIKE, YOU KNOW, LIKE, SAY MAYBE WITH JUST FOR SAKE OF PRECAUTION, TAKE THEM OUT UNTIL THAT'S BEEN RESOLVED.

I THINK IF IT'S TWO MONTHS, THREE MONTHS, IT JUST SEEMS LIKE PRECAUTIONARY.

THAT WOULD BE WISE. I MEAN, WHAT DO WE STAND TO LOSE? I THINK WHAT COULD BE AN ISSUE WITH DOING THAT IS THAT WE HAVE ONE INDIVIDUAL THAT HAS IDENTIFIED IT FOR THEM. AND THAT'S I THINK WHAT WE'RE SEEING TOO, IS THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS SUCH A DIVERSE OPINION ON THIS.

THAT'S WHAT WE SAW IN OUR SURVEY.

WE WE FOUND THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE SATISFIED, OR THEY THINK WHAT WE'RE DOING IS SUFFICIENT, BUT THERE IS A NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT ARE LIMITING IT.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS AN ENCOURAGEMENT OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE CONCERNS TO LOOK AT WHAT'S IN THE LIBRARY AND SAY, I DON'T, I DON'T WANT THIS.

THEY CAN BLOCK THAT FOR THEMSELVES.

SURE. BLOCK THAT FURTHER.

THE COMMITTEE DID FIND A BOOK IN THE LIBRARY THAT THEY DECIDED SHOULDN'T BE IN THERE.

THEY DID SO.

SO THERE ARE BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY.

POSSIBLY THAT SHOULDN'T BE IN THERE.

I THINK EACH INDIVIDUAL CASE NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT.

WELL, I JUST AND ALL I'M SAYING IS SUGGESTING THAT IN THE IN THE SAKE OF, YOU KNOW, JUST PRECAUTION FOR A KID WHO MAYBE DOESN'T HAVE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT, BUT I WOULD HATE TO SEE.

I'M SORRY. TERRY. NO, I'M JUST SAYING SOME CHILDREN, I CAN TELL YOU SOME HORROR STORIES ABOUT CHILDREN WHO DON'T HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THEIR PARENTS.

LIKE YOU'D LIKE TO THINK THEY DO HAVE.

OKAY. AND SO, FOR THE SAKE OF CHILDREN WHO DON'T HAVE THAT SUPPORT TO TAKE A BOOK OUT OF THE LIBRARY FOR A MONTH OR TWO.

[01:30:01]

THAT POTENTIALLY COULD BE A PROBLEM.

I THINK IF I THINK IF IT WAS A SHORT TIME, IT WOULDN'T BE.

IT WOULDN'T. TO YOUR POINT, IT WOULD NOT BE AN ISSUE.

EXACTLY. SO I SAY I SAY THE PROCEDURE SINCE IT'S NOT AN ISSUE.

WHY DON'T WE IMPLEMENT THAT? IT COULD BE AN ISSUE IF IT WAS GOING TO BE LONGER THAN THAT, BECAUSE PER SHELLEY'S POINT WHAT WE'D BE HAVING IS WE'D BE HAVING ONE PARENT BE MAKING A DECISION FOR THE ENTIRETY FOR THE, FOR THE ENTIRETY OF THE AND THAT'S SOMETHING WE WANT TO AVOID.

WE WANT TO WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE RIGHTS OF PARENTS TO CONTROL THEIR OWN CHILDREN'S ACCESS TO BOOKS.

WHAT WE DON'T WANT TO DO, AND WHAT WAS MADE CLEAR TO US IN THE SURVEY, IS PARENTS DON'T WANT ANOTHER CHILD'S PARENTS MAKING A DECISION FOR THEIR CHILDREN. SO THAT'S WHERE WE WOULD HAVE TO BE CAREFUL IF WE WERE TO REMOVE LIBRARY BOOKS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, BUT WE WOULD EVALUATE IT, YOU KNOW, IF THAT BECAME AN ISSUE WHERE WE WERE GETTING MULTIPLE REQUESTS, WE WOULD LOOK AT THAT.

AND I WOULD SUGGEST ALSO ON THIS AREA WHERE MAYBE A BOOK HASN'T BEEN CHECKED OUT FOUR YEARS, YOU KNOW IF IT'S CHALLENGED AND IT HASN'T BEEN CHECKED OUT FOR FOUR YEARS, THEN WHY DO YOU KNOW WHY EVEN HAVE IT? OR AS YOU SAID, YOU KNOW, PUT IT ASIDE AND MAYBE IF SOMEBODY SAYS THEY WANT TO USE IT.

OH, YEAH. YEAH. WELL WE HAD THAT, WE TOOK IT AND IT HASN'T USED IT FOR FOUR YEARS, YOU KNOW.

SO YOU KNOW, JUST IN THE SAKE AGAIN OF IT SEEMS LIKE CAUTION SEEMS LIKE IS BETTER, IN MY OPINION, THAN I THINK THE LIBRARIANS HAVE BECOME THROUGH THESE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE HAVE.

THE LIBRARIANS ARE HAVE THEIR SENSITIVITY TOWARDS THIS ISSUE HAS INCREASED.

AND I THINK YOU'LL. I THINK WE WILL SEE A GREATER LEVEL OF SCRUTINY BY OUR LIBRARIANS BECAUSE THIS HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION.

THAT'S WHAT I MEAN WHEN I MENTIONED THAT'S WHAT THE SCRUTINY.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT.

I THINK MAYBE, PERHAPS THEY WERE TAKING IT FOR GRANTED AND JUST SAYING, OH, THIS IS A BOOK THAT I SAW RECOMMENDED, THIS WAS A BOOK, AND NOW THEY'RE GOING TO BE PAYING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THESE AREAS OF CONCERN.

SO WE'RE HOPEFUL THAT WE'LL SEE A CHANGE IN THE SELECTION PROCESS, I THINK TO OH, GO AHEAD.

WELL, I WAS GOING TO SAY IS THAT TO YOUR POINT, DENNY, AND THIS IS WHAT I WAS GOING TO BRING UP, WAS THAT MY PROJECTION ON THIS IS THAT IT WILL EVENTUALLY SLOW DOWN WITH THE NUMBER OF REVIEWS THAT YOU GUYS ARE GETTING SUBMITTED, BECAUSE AT SOME POINT THE LIBRARY ONLY HOLDS SO MANY BOOKS.

AND ONCE THEY'VE ALL GONE THROUGH THEM AND THEY'VE ALL BEEN VETTED, THERE'S NOTHING LEFT TO VET.

AND BECAUSE THE SCRUTINY IS MORE STRINGENT.

AS FAR AS SELECTING NEW MATERIAL.

THE LIKELIHOOD OF SOMETHING GETTING CHALLENGED DOWN THE ROAD IS ALSO GOING TO HAVE BEEN DIMINISHED.

SO. WELL, I PROJECT THIS TO ACTUALLY SLOW DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE WE'RE BACK TO A SCENARIO WHERE WE'RE GETTING ONE EVERY SEVERAL YEARS.

AND TO YOUR POINT, WE HAVE WHILE WE HAVE 13 BOOKS THAT WE ARE REVIEWING, IT WAS MADE BY A SINGLE INDIVIDUAL, RIGHT? MY SUGGESTION WOULD BE I WELL, IT'S JUST BECAUSE I'M CURIOUS IS I'D LIKE TO SEE A FOLLOW UP ON THIS, SAY MAYBE ANNUALLY OR SIX MONTHS FROM NOW FOR THE FIRST ONE AND THEN DO LIKE SAY, HEY, HOW DID THIS PROCESS GO? WHAT WAS THE RESULTS ON EVERYTHING? AND THEN JUST MAYBE DO LIKE AN ANNUAL THING LIKE, HEY, HAVE WE GOT ANY CHALLENGES THIS YEAR? WELL, AND WE CERTAINLY MADE A COMMITMENT TO MEET WITH OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS AGAIN TO REVIEW HOW THE POLICY IMPLEMENTATION OR PROCEDURE IMPLEMENTATION IS GOING BECAUSE THESE ARE SOME SIGNIFICANT CHANGES OVER WHAT WE HAD IN THE PAST.

AND SO EVEN JUST SHARING WITH OUR FAMILIES THE PROCESS TO LIMIT BOOK ACCESS.

WHAT'S THAT GOING TO MEAN FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS.

WHAT WHAT'S THAT GOING TO LOOK LIKE.

SO I THINK IT'S AN IMPORTANT DISCUSSION AND COULD IMPACT THE WAY IN WHICH WE MOVE FORWARD.

AND CERTAINLY I THINK WE'VE EMPOWERED OUR TEACHER LIBRARIANS TO CERTAINLY NOT ONLY LOOK AT WHAT THEY'RE PUTTING IN THE LIBRARY, BUT TO LOOK AT WHAT'S IN THEIR LIBRARY COLLECTION.

NOW CERTAINLY THERE WAS AT LEAST ONE TEACHER LIBRARIAN WHO SAID, BOY, YOU KNOW, IF I REALLY HAD HAD SEEN THIS, I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HAD I KNOWN THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE AN ISSUE, I MIGHT HAVE REMOVED THIS, THIS ONE THING FROM THE LIST.

BUT YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER, TEACHER, LIBRARIANS COME IN AND THEY DON'T WALK INTO AN EMPTY LIBRARY.

THEY'VE BEEN THEY WALK INTO A FULL LIBRARY.

THEY DON'T KNOW EVERY THEY HAVEN'T READ EVERY BOOK ON THE SHELF.

SO THEY THEMSELVES HAVE TO BE ACTIVELY LOOKING AT THEIR LIBRARY COLLECTION TO EVALUATE WHAT IS IN IT.

[01:35:03]

SO IT'S IT'S CERTAINLY BROUGHT LIGHT TO TO ALL OF THIS DISCUSSION.

AND I THINK IT'S A GOOD PROCESS THAT WE'VE COME UP WITH.

AND WE'LL TO YOUR POINT, TED, I THINK WE'LL GO BACK AND REVISIT IT AND SEE HOW IT'S WORKING, BECAUSE WE THIS IS STEP ONE.

SO AND I WANT TO CIRCLE BACK TO THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF I MEAN, AND I THINK IT'S CONFUSING BECAUSE IT'S A LITTLE BIT SEPARATE FROM WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT WITH THE SELECTION OF LIBRARY BOOKS VERSUS, YOU KNOW RECONSIDERATION.

OKAY. AND IF I'M UNDERSTANDING CORRECTLY THE CRITERIA THAT THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE USES WHEN THEY'RE CONSIDERING A BOOK THAT'S BEEN SOMEONE HAS ASKED TO BE REMOVED, THEY'RE USING ACTUALLY PROCEDURE 2020, I'M GUESSING 2020 2020, 2020.

IT'S NOT THE POLICY THEY'RE USING 2020, 2021.

SO THEY'LL BE USING THE SELECTION DESELECTION PROCESS IN THE PROCEDURE THAT YOU WERE LOOKING AT TODAY.

OKAY. DOES THAT MATCH.

BECAUSE I'M LOOKING ALSO AT 2020.

AND I THINK IT ACTUALLY MATCHES THAT IN TERMS OF ITS VALUE AND SO ON.

YES I THINK YOU'RE CORRECT.

OKAY. AND THAT WILL HAVE TO BE MODIFIED.

WE'LL HAVE TO MODIFY 2020.

BUT PART OF 2020S POLICY AND PROCEDURE.

YOU HAVE TO GET NEW MEMBERS ON.

YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER RECENTLY APPROVING SOME CHANGES IN THE IMC.

WILL HAVE TO ACTUALLY SEND OUT A NOTICE OR ALLISON WILL SEND OUT A NOTICE TO CALL FOR NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

AND WHEN WE GET THOSE, WE'LL MAKE ALL THOSE CHANGES.

AT THE SAME TIME. THE CHANGES THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE IN OUR POWERPOINT, WE'LL DO THAT AT THE SAME TIME THAT WE BRING IN NEW MEMBERS, AND WE HAVE SOME MEMBERS WHO ARE EXPIRING IN DECEMBER.

SO ALL OF THAT IDEA OF ADDING AN EXTRA PARENT WAS TO GET MORE PARENT VOICE ON THE COMMITTEE.

THE IDEA OF PUTTING STUDENTS ON THE COMMITTEE WAS ACTUALLY MADE BY A CITIZEN THAT WANTED TO HAVE STUDENT VOICE ON THERE.

SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE WE'RE ADDING THAT ONE.

WE WANTED TO GET MORE.

WE HAD ONE TEACHER LIBRARIAN.

WE WANTED TO GET MORE TEACHER LIBRARIANS ON.

SO NOT NOT NOT SO MUCH THAT THEY COULD OFFER THEIR OPINION, BUT THEY COULD UNDERSTAND THE DISCUSSIONS AND THE CONCERNS AND BE ABLE TO TAKE THAT BACK TO THEIR PLC AND THE OTHER LIBRARIANS.

SO I THINK THE CHANGES TO THE MAKEUP OF THE IMC COMMITTEE WILL ALSO BE HELPFUL WITH THE OVERALL WAY THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THIS PROCESS.

EXCUSE ME. DENNY HOW MANY HOW MANY PEOPLE ON THE COMMITTEE? IT'S CURRENTLY EIGHT.

AND HOW MANY PARENTS? TWO RIGHT NOW.

SO THERE WILL BE THREE.

THREE. THERE WILL BE THREE.

WELL, AND I, I'M JUST THE REASON I'M EMPHASIZING THIS AGAIN IS BECAUSE I THINK THERE'S A PERCEPTION THAT THE COMMITTEE READS THE BOOK, THEY GET TOGETHER AND TAKE A VOTE.

AND I WANT PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A PROCESS, THERE'S A DISCUSSION, A DISCUSSION BASED ON CRITERIA.

YES. OKAY.

THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING THAT.

YEAH. IF IT'S A SAY, IT'S A CHALLENGE FROM ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS AND IT'S DEEMED THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REMOVED.

DOES IT REMOVE DISTRICT WIDE? YES. OKAY. IF A BOOK IS DEEMED TO BE REMOVED, IT REMOVES FROM EVERYWHERE.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THIS WILL GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO SAY IT CAN'T BE LOWER THAN WHILE IT'S BEING.

YEAH, THEY COULD KEEP IT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL BUT SAY NOTHING FROM THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

THEY COULD MAKE THAT DECISION NOW FROM THE IMC.

THAT'S A PROCEDURE CHANGE.

OKAY. JACKIE, DID YOU HAVE SOMETHING? IT'S NOT A BIG DEAL. I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY THIS HAS BEEN A LONG PROCESS, AND I KNOW THE TWO OF YOU, AT A MINIMUM, HAVE HEARD FROM MULTIPLE BOARD MEMBERS, SOMETIMES DAILY.

DURING THIS.

AND THIS IS THIS IS HUGE.

IT'S NOT PERFECT, BUT IT'S HUGE.

THE WORK THAT YOU'VE PUT INTO IT.

FROM JUST THE MAKING WEBSITES TO MAKING ELECTRONIC FORMS FOR PARENTS TO FILL OUT, FOR ACCESS TO, YOU KNOW, NOTIFICATIONS YOU'RE GOING TO SEND TO WORKING WITH THE STAFF, THE TEACHER, LIBRARIANS.

I JUST WANT TO COMMEND YOU FOR YOUR WORK ON THIS.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

SHELLEY LED THE WORK WELL.

AND I WILL SAY ALISON, AMANDA, OUR TEACHER, LIBRARIANS, THE IMC COMMITTEE.

I MEAN, THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE INVOLVED WITH THE PROCESS, BUT I WANT YOU I DO WANT TO REITERATE, AND I KNOW YOU KNOW THIS BECAUSE YOU'RE SAYING THIS, BUT I DO WANT TO REITERATE THAT THE ENTIRE PROCESS WAS TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY.

WE ARE LISTENING TO WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING, AND WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE SOME CHANGES THAT WE CAN FIND A WAY TO MEET THE NEEDS OF MORE OF OUR FAMILIES

[01:40:07]

AND OUR STUDENTS AND OUR PARENTS.

I CAN SENSE THAT ALSO.

I DID THINK ONE OTHER QUESTION.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ANSWERED THE SURVEY? 2250. YEAH, THAT'S A THAT'S A BIG TURNOUT.

AND AGAIN, THAT'S OUR BIGGEST EVER.

THAT'S OUR LARGEST SURVEY PARTICIPATION EVER.

WELL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSIVENESS TO THE COMMUNITY AND LISTENING I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

THANK YOU. YEAH IT'S VERY OBVIOUS THE HOURS ARE PUT INTO THIS.

IT DOESN'T ESCAPE OUR VISION.

SO APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU. THAT'S IT FOR SHELLY.

NOTHING FROM HR.

WE HAVE A SHORT ENROLLMENT UPDATE FROM BUSINESS DEPARTMENT.

I'M SORRY IF THERE'S TIME.

ALSO, I JUST WANTED TO SHARE.

OUR WAS JUST RELEASED THEIR 2025 LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES, AND I JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT THEY ARE JOINED WITH SOME OF THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE TOP THREE OF SO THE HIGH PRIORITY REQUEST AND PRIORITIES FOR LEGISLATIVE ACTION THIS FALL AND WITH MSOC, SO MAINTENANCE SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS BEING ONE OF THOSE TOP THREE, SPECIAL EDUCATION BEING ANOTHER ONE AND PUPIL TRANSPORTATION, WHICH IS, AS YOU KNOW, IS ALL PART OF OUR YOU KNOW, THAT WE FUND A LOT OF THIS, THESE GAPS WITH OUR LEVY DOLLARS.

ALSO WSSDA THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO PUT SUBSTITUTE COSTS ON THERE FOR SUBS.

IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT JUST KIND OF GETS BURIED, BUT IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.

THE STATE FUNDS FOR DAYS FOR CERTIFICATED STAFF ONLY AND NON-ADMINISTRATIVE CERTIFICATED STAFF THAT ARE FUNDED BY THE STATE AND THE AMOUNT THAT THE DISTRICTS ARE ALLOCATED FOR THOSE FOUR DAYS HAS NOT CHANGED IN TEN YEARS.

IT'S STILL $151 INCLUDING BENEFITS.

AND RIGHT NOW OURS IS AROUND 193 WITH BENEFITS.

AND SO IT'S A STATE LAW TO PROVIDE AT LEAST TEN DAYS A YEAR FOR ALL STAFF.

AND IT'S ALSO SUBSTITUTES THAT YOU KNOW, AS THEY EARN THEIR HOURS, THEY ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR SICK LEAVE.

SO ANYHOW, SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU BECAUSE THE COMMITTEE FELT THAT THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT.

RIGHT NOW, WE SPEND ABOUT $1.5 MILLION OF OUR LEVY DOLLARS FOR SUBSTITUTE COSTS.

SO IT'S PRETTY WE GET ABOUT $283,000.

SO ANYWAYS, THAT WAS JUST SOMETHING I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU ON WASBO.

THANK YOU. YEAH.

OKAY. ENROLLMENT UPDATE.

HERE WE GO. DO WE HAVE A CLICKER? THANK YOU. OKAY.

SO. ALL RIGHT, SO AS I HAD INDICATED IN PREVIOUS MEETINGS WE ARE ABOVE OUR BUDGET OF 12,153 WAS OUR BUDGET BY FTE.

SO THIS IS NOT HEADCOUNT.

THIS IS BY FULL TIME ENROLLMENT OR FULL-TIME EQUIVALENT ENROLLMENT.

SO THAT'S HOW WE'RE FUNDED.

SO THAT'S IMPORTANT. WE'RE NOT FUNDED BY HEADCOUNT.

SO AND RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE WE'RE JUST WE'RE CLIMBING UP TO YOU KNOW, OUR PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS.

WE'RE GETTING CLOSER.

I'M JUST REALLY THRILLED THAT THIS CAME IN, YOU KNOW, ABOVE BUDGET.

SO THAT IS VERY HELPFUL.

WE DID ADD TEACHERS WERE ADDED AND THERE'S SOME OTHER STAFF THAT ARE BEING ADDED AND HAVE BEEN ADDED TO HELP OUT WITH THAT AS WELL.

AND SO ENROLLMENT DRIVES OUR FUNDING.

SO THAT'S SO THAT'S A GREAT THING.

IN THIS NEXT SLIDE, THIS IS JUST THE HEADCOUNT.

AND SO IT'S JUST TO SHOW THAT, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE ABOUT 215 MORE STUDENTS IN HEADCOUNT THAN WE HAD IN 23-24 AT THIS TIME.

AND THEN ALSO IN OUR ALES, YOU CAN SEE THAT NUMBER HAS GROWN.

AND BBVA IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE GROWTH OF THAT OF THAT ENROLLMENT.

AND THEY ARE NOW AROUND 400 FTE FOR BGVA.

SO I WANTED TO SHARE THAT SLIDE WITH YOU.

AND THEN ALSO OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION.

AND I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT 1846.

THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A PRELIMINARY NUMBER BECAUSE THEY ARE AT 19.

1919, I BELIEVE, 1119.

[01:45:03]

AND SO WHICH IS CLOSER TO 15% OF OUR ENROLLMENT IS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION.

BUT YOU CAN SEE THOSE NUMBERS ARE COMING IN STRONG.

AND THEN ALSO OUR TRANSITIONAL BILINGUAL PROGRAM IS ALSO RUNNING AT 1589 AND HEAD COUNT.

AND YOU CAN SEE THAT COMPARED TO PREVIOUS YEARS, THAT CONTINUES TO GROW.

AND SO OCTOBER IS WHEN STUDENTS ARE PRIMARILY IDENTIFIED.

THAT'S WHEN THE FUNDING STARTS IS IN OCTOBER.

BUT WE HAD THE SEPTEMBER COUNTS IN THERE.

BUT IT'S REALLY IS OCTOBER IS WHERE YOU REALLY TAKE YOUR COUNT BECAUSE IN SEPTEMBER THEY'RE IDENTIFYING STUDENTS.

SO IT'S ABOUT 12.6% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE SERVED IN THAT PROGRAM.

AND LAST, IN 2019-20, IT WAS ONLY 7.4, WHICH WE HAD SHOWN IN OUR WORK SESSION EARLIER.

SO OUR RUNNING START, OCTOBER IS THEIR FIRST COUNT AND THEY'RE AT 340.7 FTE.

AND THEN OUR CTE CLASSES ARE COMING IN REAL STRONG.

THEY'RE AT 1115 FTE.

AND SO ABOUT 35% OF OUR BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE ENROLLED IN A CTE CLASS.

AND THEN OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CTE IS AT 59.4.

AND THEN THESE SLIDES HERE ARE JUST SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

IF YOU HAD ANY IF YOU WERE LOOKING AT AN INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL AND I WON'T BE GOING THROUGH THEM, BUT THEY'RE JUST THERE FOR YOUR REFERENCE FOR SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER.

BUT THAT'S ALL I HAD.

DID YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? NO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ABOVE. PROJECTED ENROLLMENT IS ALWAYS GOOD.

YES. YOU GOT TO STOP THERE.

AND WE'VE BEEN HAPPY. THANK YOU.

KEVIN. OPERATIONS.

FACILITIES. YEAH.

SO IF YOU'VE BEEN DRIVING DOWN PARKWAY.

YOU SEE, OUR CENTRAL OPERATIONS BUILDING IS WELL UNDERWAY.

A LITTLE MUDDY BUT WE FOUND VERY LITTLE DEBRIS, WHICH KEEPS US ON SCHEDULE AND ON BUDGET.

CARPET. SEE WHERE WE FINISHED TWO PHASES OF THE RECARPETING.

THE C BUILDING AND THE IT AREA.

A COUPLE MORE WEEKS LEFT THERE.

BATTLE GROUND OF BGVA.

OUR DESIGN IS NEARING COMPLETION AND WILL BE SUBMITTING TO THE COUNTY SOON.

THAT'S THE ESTIMATED COMPLETION ON THE FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS.

SEPTEMBER. SEPTEMBER.

THANK YOU. ANY UPDATES ON THE SCOREBOARD? YEAH, WE'LL BE DOING IT AS SOON AS THE SEASON'S DONE.

OKAY. THE FOOTBALL SEASON? YEAH. ALL RIGHT.

GOT A COUPLE OF HIGHLIGHTS TO SHARE, STARTING WITH IF YOU SAW THE COLOMBIAN NOT LAST SATURDAY, BUT SATURDAY BEFORE YOU SAW SOME MAPLE GROVE STUDENTS IN THE PRINT EDITION AS WELL AS ONLINE, THEY WERE FEATURED FOR THEIR WORK TO PRACTICE EARTHQUAKE SAFETY ON OCTOBER 17TH, WHICH WAS THE GREAT SHAKEOUT. AND TEACHER ERIC ANDERSON DID A GREAT JOB LEADING HIS STUDENTS THROUGH THE DRILL AND EXPLAINING WHY THEY DO WHAT THEY DO.

AND THEN MIKE KESSLER, SAFETY SUPERVISOR, ALSO DID A REALLY NICE JOB TALKING ABOUT THE ROLE OF THOSE PRACTICES IN SCHOOL SAFETY OVERALL.

AND THEN RIGHT NOW WE ARE ACCEPTING REFERRALS FOR OUR ASPIRE PROGRAM.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW, THAT IS OUR HIGHLY CAPABLE PROGRAM.

IT'S FOR STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE ADVANCED ACADEMIC ABILITIES OR POTENTIAL.

ANY STUDENT CAN BE REFERRED FOR TESTING.

HOWEVER, WE DO NEED A PARENT OR GUARDIAN TO PROVIDE PERMISSION FOR THE STUDENT TO TAKE THE TEST, AND THE TESTING HAPPENS IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY, SO ALL OF THOSE MATERIALS ARE AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE NOW.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

THERE'S A NEW PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE STUDENT ATHLETES AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND STUDENTS AT CAPTAIN STRONG PRIMARY.

IT'S REALLY NEAT THAT SOME OF THE ATHLETE LEADERS WERE IDENTIFIED TO GO OVER TO THE PRIMARY SCHOOL AND SPEND AN AFTERNOON READING TO THE YOUNGER STUDENTS.

THEY WERE VERY EXCITED, BOTH GROUPS, AND I THINK YOU CAN TELL BY SOME OF THE SMILES THAT IT WAS A HIT.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT THEY PLAN TO CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

SO GREAT JOB BY THOSE FOLKS.

AND THEN ALSO SOME STUDENTS GO TO A NEW CAREER FAIR AT DOZIER DAY.

SO THIS WAS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION FIELD.

TALK WITH BUSINESSES WHO ARE OPERATING LOCALLY AND EVEN TRY WORKING ON SOME OF THE MACHINES.

[01:50:04]

SO THIS WAS AN EVENT THAT WAS PUT ON BY THE BUILDING FUTURES FOUNDATION, WHICH IS THE NONPROFIT ARM OF THE BUILDING INDUSTRY OF AMERICA.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE HAD STUDENTS AT BOTH BATTLE GROUND AND PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOLS WHO CELEBRATED HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH BY CREATING DISPLAYS AT THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOLS, AND ALSO BY PARTICIPATING IN THE CLARK COUNTY LATINO YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE.

IT'S A GREAT JOB BY ALL OF THEM.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU AMANDA.

AND ONE MORE QUICK THING SHELLY WANTED TO UPDATE THE BOARD ON.

I WANTED TO MENTION THAT THIS WEDNESDAY IS OUR FIRST, WELL, FIRST, DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR WAIVER DAY.

IT'S OUR SECOND WAIVER DAY FOR STAFF TO WORK SOME MORE TOGETHER ON THE PLC PRACTICES THAT THEY HAVE BEEN CONTINUING TO DO. THEY ARE GOING TO BE DOING SOME SHARING AND SOME SELF-ASSESSMENT OF THEIR TEAMS TO LOOK AT EACH TEAM'S NEXT STEP IN THE PLC PROCESS, AND WHETHER THEY ARE READY TO MOVE ON FROM TIER ONE INTO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TIER TWO INTERVENTIONS.

SO JUST TAKING A LOOK AT WHERE THEY ARE AND THEY HAVE SOME SPECIFIC WORK PLANNED FOR WEDNESDAY, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT WORK TIME TOGETHER.

AND THAT'S IT FOR SUPERINTENDENT STAFF UPDATE.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

NEXT UP WE HAVE CITIZENS COMMENTS.

[7. Citizens' Comments]

I WILL REMIND EVERYONE THIS IS A MEETING OF THE BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TO ATTEND, VIEW PRESENTATIONS AND HEAR BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSS TOPICS DURING OPEN SESSIONS.

THE BOARD WELCOMES COMMENTS FROM CITIZENS DURING CITIZENS COMMENTS, AND ASK THAT THOSE WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD SIGN IN ON THE SIGN IN SHEET PROVIDED, WHICH IS LOCATED CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE. PLEASE FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES FOR CITIZENS COMMENTS BY STATING YOUR NAME AND LIMITING YOUR TIME TO THREE MINUTES AND REFRAINING FROM DISCUSSING CONFIDENTIAL MATTERS. THE BOARD REQUIRES THAT ALL COMMENTS SPOKEN AT THE MEETING BE APPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE.

COMMENTS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE CAN BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING.

BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT NORMALLY RESPOND TO QUESTIONS OR PETITIONS DURING CITIZENS COMMENTS.

THEY WILL LISTEN AND GIVE A DIRECTION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IF ACTION IS DEEMED NECESSARY.

WE WILL HAVE A TIMER ON THE SCREEN AS WELL AS IT WILL WARN YOU WHEN YOU HAVE 30S LEFT, SHE'LL HOLD UP THE YELLOW SIGN AND THE RED ONE.

WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP, I WILL STOP YOU AT THREE MINUTES.

AND ASK THAT YOU RESPECT THE OTHER SPEAKERS BY HONORING THAT.

FIRST UP, WE HAVE MARISSA LEE.

YEAH. SHE'S HERE.

MY NAME IS MARISSA LEE.

AND FIRST OFF, I WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT WITH YOU.

I AM A MOTHER TO SEVEN CHILDREN, AND THAT'S MY JOB.

THIS COMING HERE IS NOT MY THING.

I'M SCARED TO DEATH, BUT I'M HERE.

I'M HERE BECAUSE I'M ADVOCATING FOR NORTH COUNTY.

THE, THAT INCLUDES YACOLT, AMBOY AND BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

ALL MY KIDS ARE ALL MY KIDS ARE IN SOME STAGE OF THAT.

AND I DIDN'T REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT IT WAS FOR ME TO GET INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOL STUFF UNTIL MY OLDEST DROPPED OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.

AND IT WAS THEN THAT I REALIZED THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS IN A CRISIS.

WE OUR SCHOOLS ARE ESPECIALLY IN NORTH COUNTY, ARE OVERFLOWING WITH STUDENTS.

THERE ARE IN MY DAUGHTER'S PRIMARY CLASS OF FIRST GRADE, THERE'S 20 STUDENTS.

YEAH, THAT MIGHT NOT SOUND A LOT LIKE A LOT, BUT FOR ONE TEACHER TO PROVIDE THE QUALITY EDUCATION THAT EACH CHILD NEEDS, THERE SHOULD BE LIKE IN THE TENNESSEE STAR STUDY THAT WAS DONE YEARS BACK, 15 STUDENTS IN A PRIMARY EDUCATION CLASS.

AND THAT IT IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEN THE TEACHER IS ABLE TO PROVIDE EACH STUDENT THE QUALITY EDUCATION THAT THEY DESERVE. YOU GUYS HAVE A QUALITY CORE CURRICULUM THAT IS OUT THERE.

YOU HAVE IT, BUT THE TEACHERS ARE UNABLE TO GIVE IT TO EACH OF OUR CHILDREN.

EACH OF OUR EACH OF YOUR STUDENTS THAT ATTEND THE SCHOOL THERE ARE HIGHLY CAPABLE OF STUDENTS THAT EXCEL, THAT DO GREAT.

AND THEN THERE'S THE SPECIAL EDUCATION KIDS THAT HAVE AN AMAZING SYSTEM TO WORK WITH.

HOWEVER, I'M HERE FOR THE STUDENTS THAT FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS.

THOSE STUDENTS, THEY TEND TO GIVE UP.

THEY FIND OTHER WAYS OF GETTING THROUGH LIFE THAT COULD BE DROPPING OUT AND GETTING A JOB.

THE JOB AVAILABILITIES THESE DAYS ARE ENORMOUS.

BUSINESSES WANT SUCCESSFUL KIDS WANT KIDS THAT ARE STRIVING TO WORK, THEY ARE WILLING.

[01:55:06]

KIDS ARE READY TO DROP OUT BECAUSE THEY WOULD RATHER GO WHERE SOMEONE WANTS THEM.

THESE IN SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE SO BUSY THEY DON'T HAVE TIME TO HELP THESE STUDENTS.

AND SO I'M ASKING YOU TO PLEASE DOWNSIZE THE CLASS SIZES.

BRING A HIGH SCHOOL TO NORTH COUNTY SO THAT IT CAN UNLEASH SO IT CAN DOWNSIZE THE NUMBER OF KIDS IN EACH CLASS. THAT'S WHAT I'M ASKING.

AND I HOPE THAT YOU CONSIDER SMALLER CLASS SIZES.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

CARL MILLER.

GOOD EVENING BOARD. MY NAME IS CARL MILLER AND I'D LIKE TO TALK THIS EVENING ABOUT THE CASTLE CURRICULUM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING.

THERE HAS BEEN A WEALTH OF RESEARCH DONE REGARDING THE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM.

ON CASTLE'S OWN WEBSITE, THEY CITE THE POSITIVE REPORT OF A NUMBER OF RESEARCHERS COMBINING THEIR FINDINGS AND PROVIDING A META ANALYSIS OF THE EVIDENCE PERFORMED JUST LAST YEAR. THEY ANALYZED STUDIES COVERING A PERIOD OF NINE YEARS, AND AMONG THESE RESEARCHERS WHO CONDUCTED THE ANALYSIS WAS A DOCTOR, LINDA DARLING-HAMMOND.

DOCTOR DARLING-HAMMOND IS CURRENTLY THE PRESIDENT OF THE CALIFORNIA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION, AND SHE, ALONG WITH HER COLLEAGUES' PROVIDED WHAT CASTLE HAILS AS AN IMPORTANT VOICE IN THE META ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS AND SUPPOSED BENEFITS OF THIS NEW CURRICULUM.

BACK WHEN DOCTOR DARLING-HAMMOND WAS RUNNING FOR SECRETARY OF EDUCATION IN THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, SHE RECEIVED A VARIETY OF ENDORSEMENTS FROM VARIOUS PEOPLE, INCLUDING ONE BILL AYERS IN A PUBLISHED STATEMENT, WHICH IS STILL AVAILABLE ONLINE, BILL CLEARLY LAID OUT HIS PICKS FOR THE APPOINTED OFFICES WITHIN THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION.

HE PLACES DOCTOR DARLING-HAMMOND AS THE FIRST CHOICE FOR SECRETARY OF EDUCATION.

HIS OWN WEBSITE READS.

SO I WOULD HAVE PICKED DARLING-HAMMOND FOR SECRETARY OF EDUCATION, BUT THEN AGAIN, I WOULD HAVE PICKED NOAM CHOMSKY FOR STATE.

THE TITLE OF THE POST OR THIS QUOTE CAN BE FOUND IS VOTE ME FOR SECRETARY OF EDUCATION.

THIS IS SIGNIFICANT AND INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT.

BILL DRAWS A PARALLEL BETWEEN DOCTOR DARLING-HAMMOND AND HIMSELF, IMPLYING THEY ARE IDEOLOGICALLY IDENTICAL.

THE NAME BILL AYERS IS NOT ONE TO BE IGNORED.

THIS BILL AYERS IS THE CO-FOUNDER OF THE FAR LEFT MILITANT ORGANIZATION THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND.

HE IS A CONVICTED DOMESTIC TERRORIST WITH NUMEROUS BOMBINGS AND ARMED PROTESTS TO HIS NAME.

HE HAS PUBLICLY GONE ON RECORD ADMITTING THAT HE IS A COMMUNIST, AND HAS REPEATEDLY ATTESTED THAT HE AND THE WEATHER UNDERGROUND HAD NO REGRETS AND WILL NOT RULE OUT THE POSSIBILITY OF DOING THEIR WORK AGAIN IN THE FUTURE.

THE RESEARCHERS AND EXPERTS EXPERTS WHO SUPPORT AND ENDORSE CASTLE ARE THEMSELVES SUPPORTED AND ENDORSED BY OTHERS IN THE EDUCATION SECTOR.

BILL AYERS AND DOCTOR LINDA HAMMOND ARE AMONG THESE INDIVIDUALS.

CASTLE IS NOT BENEFICIAL OR EVEN A NEUTRAL CURRICULUM.

NONE OF US WOULD INVITE A KNOWN TERRORIST INTO OUR CITY, LET ALONE INTO OUR SCHOOLS AND HOMES.

YET SOMEHOW YOU, THE BOARD AND THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CONSIDERING BRINGING THE SPIRIT OF THIS TERRORIST AND HIS IDEOLOGIES INTO THE CLASSROOM.

CONSIDER THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE CURRICULUM AND RECONSIDER YOUR CHOICES BEFORE THE STUDENTS ARE TAUGHT TO BE TERRORISTS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

WEN GURSICH.

HI, MY NAME IS WEN GURSICH AND I'M HERE TONIGHT TO ASK, HOW FAR HAVE YOU GOTTEN TRYING TO GET THOSE TOXIC TAMPONS OUT OF THE BATHROOMS? HAVE YOU DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT? HAVE YOU? YOU KNOW THEY'RE POISONOUS, RIGHT? DO YOU HAVE A SCHOOL NEWSLETTER? CAN YOU ADVISE THE PARENTS THAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY PUTTING SOMETHING IN THERE THAT CAN CAUSE TUMORS? AND MAYBE LATER IN THE FUTURE, IN THEIR 20S AND 30S, THEY'LL HAVE TO HAVE A HYSTERECTOMY OR SOMETHING.

IT WOULD BE REALLY NICE IF YOU DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT, BECAUSE THESE ARE IN THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES.

THEY'RE AT CITY HALL AND THEY'RE IN ALL THE SCHOOLS.

AND I REALLY THINK THAT SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING.

AND YOU GIRLS, IF YOU'RE IN THE LEADERSHIP GROUP, YOU SHOULD GET ALL THE GIRLS IN HERE AND THEIR PARENTS AND DEMAND THAT THEY CHANGE THE TAMPONS IN THE BATHROOMS OF THIS SCHOOL. AND I'LL TELL YOU, WHEN YOU HAVE A SUCCESS, THERE'S OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO, TOO.

BECAUSE MOMS ACROSS AMERICA, RIGHT NOW, THEY'RE HAVING A MEETING TONIGHT.

THEY'RE TRYING TO GET ORGANIC FOOD IN ALL THE SCHOOLS.

THEY DON'T WANT ANY GMO.

THEY DON'T WANT PROCESSED FOODS.

AND THIS IS GOING NATIONWIDE.

[02:00:01]

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS THAT THEY CAN DO HERE.

BUT MOST OF ALL, IF YOU'RE WORRIED ABOUT GRADES, I REALLY THINK YOU NEED TO GET THE FLUORIDE STOPPED.

AND I'M SHOCKED THAT NONE OF YOUR TEACHERS HAVE BEEN DOWN AT THE CITY COUNCIL OR TALKED TO THE MAYOR ABOUT STOPPING FLUORIDATION.

SINCE YOU'VE GOT THE STUDIES, AND I'LL PUT THEM AGAIN ON PUBLIC PUBLIC RECORD THAT THEY LOWERED CHILDREN'S IQS.

AND WHEN I SAW THE GRADE LEVELS OF WHAT YOU HAD LAST, LAST TIME, I WAS SO APPALLED.

THIS IS SICKENING.

AND YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE TALKING SPORTS AND STUFF, I KNOW IN MY DAY, WHICH WAS A LONG TIME AGO, IS THAT YOU HAD TO HAVE A C OR ABOVE, YOU HAD TO HAVE GRADES TO BE IN THE SPORTS. DO ALL YOUR CHILDREN THAT PLAY SPORTS IN THESE SCHOOLS? ARE THEY AT GRADE LEVEL THAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE, YOU KNOW, ARE THEY YOU KNOW, THEY USED TO DO THAT.

I MEAN, DO THEY STILL DO THIS? IS THAT SOMETHING THAT THAT'S HAPPENING, THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A CERTAIN GRADE TO DO SPORTS, OR YOU JUST LET THEM DO THE SPORTS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR GRADES BECAUSE YOU'RE READING A MATH SKILLS STINK.

AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, IS THAT I WANT YOU ALL TO LOOK THIS UP.

THERE IS A WOMAN WHO WAS ON AND THIS IS HER NAME.

IT'S SPELLED WEIRD. HER NAME IS CHERYL ATKINSON.

IT WAS ON DOCTOR DREW AND SHE WROTE THIS BOOK CALLED FOLLOW THE SCIENCE.

AND WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT IS THEY DID A BIG STUDY ON HORMONE BLOCKERS, WHAT THEY DO FOR THE KIDS THAT ARE TRANS.

AND THE STUFF IS SO TOXIC THEY THREW IT OUT AND USED IT ANYWAY.

AND I'M TALKING ABOUT HEALTH OF EVERY CHILD.

I WANT THEIR BRAINS WORKING NORMAL.

I DON'T WANT THEM TO HAVE TUMORS UP THEIR VAGINAS USING TOXIC TAMPONS.

AND I ALSO THE TRANS KIDS, IF THEY KNEW WHAT WAS IN THOSE BETA BLOCKERS, NOBODY WOULD BE DOING IT.

AND THIS IS ON DOCTOR DREW.

HER NAME IS CHERYL ATKINSON.

THIS IS THE BOOK CALLED FOLLOW THE SCIENCE.

AND ONE OTHER THING TOO.

THIS IS PUR DENTEX.

THIS IS AN INFO COMMERCIAL AND THEY SELL THIS PRODUCT FOR YOUR TEETH.

AND THE FLUORIDE IS SO TOXIC IT ROTS YOUR TEETH.

SO THIS IS SOMETHING YOU SHOULD LOOK UP.

AND THEY ALSO TALK ABOUT FLUORIDATION AND WHAT IT DOES TO YOUR TEETH AND HOW IT ROTS THEM.

SO PLEASE CHECK THAT OUT AND ALSO CHECK OUT CLARK COUNTY HEALTH BOARD BECAUSE WE NEED TO GET RID OF BOWERMAN.

ALEX GARDNER.

GOOD EVENING.

BOARD. MY NAME IS ALEX GARDNER.

I AM A FATHER OF TWO CHILDREN WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL AREA.

I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE TRANSFORMATIVE SEL CURRICULUM.

THIS CURRICULUM IS CERTAINLY HAS ECHOES IN ITS NATURE AND PHILOSOPHY.

LINES UP WITH MARXISM TRANSFORMATIVE SEL, ACCORDING TO THE AFT PUBLIC EDUCATION HEALTH WEBSITE, IS A FORM OF SEL IMPLEMENTATION WHERE YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULTS BUILD STRONG, RESPECTFUL AND LASTING RELATIONSHIPS TO ENGAGE IN CO-LEARNING.

IT FACILITATES CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF INDIVIDUAL AND CONTEXTUAL FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO INEQUITIES AND COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS THAT LEAD TO PERSONAL, COMMUNITY, AND SOCIETAL WELL-BEING.

THROUGH SEL OR TRANSFORMATIVE SEL, STUDENTS AND ADULTS DEVELOP SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SKILLS NEEDED FOR SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, WITH A FOCUS ON RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CREATING LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS THAT ARE CARING AND JUST.

THIS INCLUDES FIVE FOCUSES THEY HAVE.

FIRST, IS IDENTITY A CORE PART OF SELF-AWARENESS, WHICH REFERS TO HOW STUDENTS AND ADULTS VIEW THEMSELVES AS INDIVIDUALS AND AS PART OF THE WORLD AROUND THEM.

HAVING A HEALTHY SENSE OF IDENTITY BUFFERS AGAINST NEGATIVE OR TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCES AND CONTRIBUTES TO POSITIVE ACADEMIC, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL OUTCOMES.

THE NEXT FOCUS IS AGENCY.

PART OF SELF-MANAGEMENT OR FEELING EMPOWERED TO MAKE CHOICES AND TAKE ACTIONS THAT PRODUCE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE.

AGENCY HELPS YOUNG PEOPLE MAKE CHOICES ABOUT LEARNING AND CAREER GOALS, OVERCOME PERSONAL CHALLENGES, AND SHAPE THE COURSE OF THEIR LIVES.

THE NEXT FOCUS IS BELONGING PART OF SOCIAL AWARENESS THE EXPERIENCE OF ACCEPTANCE, RESPECT AND INCLUSION WITHIN A GROUP OR COMMUNITY.

HAVING A SENSE OF BELONGING IS CRITICAL TO WELLBEING, MOTIVATION AND ACHIEVEMENT.

THE NEXT FOCUS IS COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING, PART OF RELATIONSHIP SKILLS, THE ABILITY TO BUILD SHARED UNDERSTANDING AND WORK TOGETHER TO COME TO SOLUTIONS BY POOLING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EFFORTS.

AND THEN THE LAST FOCUS THEY HAVE IS CURIOSITY.

PART OF RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING, WHICH LEADS TO THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE AND DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND CONTRIBUTES TO ATTENTION, ENGAGEMENT AND LEARNING.

AND THEN THEIR NEXT TOPIC IS WHAT DOES TRANSFORMATIVE SEL LOOK LIKE IN PRACTICE?

[02:05:04]

TRANSFORMATIVE SEL GREW OUT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SCIENCE AND RESEARCH ON STUDENTS ENGAGEMENT, WELL-BEING, ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, AND LONG TERM SUCCESS.

BUT IN PRACTICE, THERE ARE CURRENTLY LIMITED OPTIONS FOR EVIDENCE BASED PROGRAMS AND IMPLEMENTATION MODELS FOR TRANSFORMATIVE SEL.

TO ADDRESS THIS NEED, CASTLE IS LEADING COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS TO LEARN ALONGSIDE STUDENTS, FAMILIES, SCHOOLS, AND DISTRICTS HOW SPECIFIC PRACTICES, POLICIES, AND PROCESSES CAN BEST BE IMPLEMENTED TO ACHIEVE THE GOALS OF TRANSFORMATIVE SEL.

PRACTICES THAT WE'RE ROOTING INCLUDE ABOUT OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS.

OKAY. INSTRUCTIONS THAT HONORS AND MAKES CONNECTIONS TO STUDENT LIVED EXPERIENCES, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE AND YOUTH GUIDED APPROACHES, AND SUCH AS PROJECT BIASES ON HOW ISSUES OF RACE, CLASS, AND CULTURE IMPACT OUR SOCIETY.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

TYLER LONG.

THANK YOU FOR THE LIBRARY UPDATE.

I'LL RESERVE COMMENT ON THAT TILL ANOTHER TIME.

I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT CASTLE THIS EVENING AND FROM THE LAST REPORT THAT YOU GAVE, I BELIEVE LAST TIME IT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND CASTLE DETERMINES WHAT CURRICULUM WILL MEET THE CRITERIA FOR THE PROPOSED GRANT.

AND SO WE JUST LEARNED WHAT THE FRAMEWORK OF THE CASTLE PROGRAM IS IN DETERMINING THAT CRITERIA.

I KNOW IT WAS LONG AND ARDUOUS, BUT ALEX READ VERBATIM FROM CASTLE'S WEBSITE AND SO WE'RE GOING TO GET INTO THAT.

AS YOU NOTED, DEBBIE, THAT IN YOUR RESEARCH THAT YOU FOUND THAT IT IS A COMMUNITY BASED CURRICULUM.

AND I AGREE, AND THAT SOUNDS GREAT, BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? DOES THAT MEAN THAT THERE'S COMMUNITY OVERSIGHT? NO. DOES THAT MEAN THAT THERE'S COMMUNITY INPUT? NO. DOES THAT MEAN THAT THERE'S THE COMMUNITY'S INVOLVEMENT? NO, IT MEANS THAT IT'S COMMUNITY TRANSFORMATION.

IT'S IN THE VERY NAME THAT IT'S TRANSFORMATIVE.

SO THAT'S WHAT CASTLE'S OWN WEBSITE CALLS IT.

TRANSFORMATIVE IS MARXIST LANGUAGE.

IT'S CHANGE. THEY WANT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING, STARTING WITH THE STUDENTS, THEN THE COMMUNITY, THEN SOCIETY THROUGH EDUCATION.

AND THAT'S HOW IT'S COMMUNITY FOCUSED, AND THAT'S HOW IT'S TRANSFORMATIVE.

IT'S DESIGNED TO TRAIN THE STUDENTS TO TRANSFORM THEIR COMMUNITY, THE NATION AND THE WORLD, CONSISTENT WITH THE CRITICAL THEORY IDEOLOGY.

IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME, WE'LL EXAMINE THE QUOTES THAT HE READ.

I KNOW HE WENT SHOTGUN STYLE, BUT THE QUOTE THAT THEY GAVE WAS, IT FACILITATES CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF INDIVIDUALS AND CONTEXTUAL FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO INEQUALITIES AND COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS THAT LEAD TO COMMUNITY, PERSONAL, COMMUNITY, AND SOCIETAL WELL-BEING.

CRITICAL. THAT'S CRITICAL THEORY.

THAT'S MARXISM.

HOW DO WE KNOW? BECAUSE THEY GO ON BECAUSE IT'S CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF CONTEXTUAL FACTORS.

WHAT ARE CONTEXTUAL FACTORS? WELL, THAT'S RACE, GENDER, CLASS, ALL THE THINGS THAT MARXIST THEORY REQUIRES THAT YOU CRITICALLY EXAMINE.

IT'S FITTING LIKE A GLOVE SO FAR.

AND IT GOES ON TO TALK ABOUT FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO ANY EQUITIES, NOT INEQUALITIES.

SO THESE ARE THE CONTEXTS THAT THEY'RE WORRIED ABOUT.

THOSE THAT CAUSE INEQUITIES.

THEY'RE NOT WORRIED ABOUT INEQUALITY UNDER THE LAW.

BUT INEQUITIES THAT IS MARXISM.

AND IF YOU'RE STILL NOT CONVINCED AT THE END, IT TALKS ABOUT COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS THAT LEAD TO PERSONAL COMMUNITY.

THERE'S THAT COMMUNITY FOCUS AND SOCIETAL WELL-BEING.

SO AGAIN, BY REVIEW YOU HAVE CRITICAL EXAMINATION, WHICH MEANS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A PROBLEM THAT YOU ALREADY PRESUPPOSE EXISTS.

THIS IS CRITICAL THEORY.

YOU HAVE CONTEXTUAL FACTORS.

THIS IS IDENTITY GROUPS.

THAT IS THE ONLY CONTEXT THAT THEY'RE ALLUDING TO.

THEY'RE DIVIDING STUDENTS BY RACE, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, CLASS, ETC.

THESE ARE ALL THE DELINEATIONS OF CRITICAL THEORY.

WE KNOW THIS BECAUSE THEY SPILL THE BEANS ABOUT FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO INEQUITIES.

THIS IS WHAT THEY'RE PRESUPPOSING THAT ALL OF THE TEACHING ABOUT INEQUITIES WILL BE ORIENTED AROUND THESE CONTEXTUAL FACTORS.

THEY'RE TELLING YOU IN PLAIN LANGUAGE WHAT THE IDEOLOGY UNDERWRITING THIS IS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

JUST SHY OF GREEN.

HELLO, MY NAME IS JOSH GREEN AS THIS WAS MENTIONED LAST MEETING.

THE COMPETENCIES AND THE DATA SURVEYING LAST MEETING.

WHAT WAS LEFT OUT I BELIEVE, WAS THAT THE SURVEYS ARE SUPPOSED TO PROVIDE A FEEDBACK LOOP BASED LOOSELY ON THE HERRERIAN DIALOGICAL MODEL OF EDUCATION, WHEREBY FACILITATORS CAN LEARN WHAT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LESSONS ARE MOST NEEDED IN APPROPRIATE AND BY WHOM, IN ANY GIVEN CLASSROOM.

[02:10:04]

IS IT MORALLY CORRECT TO DATA HARVEST ADOLESCENTS? THESE DATA ARE NOT MERELY USED FOR SEL PROGRAMING CHOICES, CONSIDERING THAT IT WOULD BE ON ITS OWN, BUT IT IS ALSO SOLD TO OTHER ENTITIES FOR PURPOSE OF ECONOMIC FORECASTING, SUCH POTENTIALLY MARKETING AND THE BUILDING OF SYSTEMS OF SOCIAL CONTROL, AT LEAST ACCORDING TO A 2019 ACADEMIC PAPER BY BEN WILLIAMSON IN THE JOURNAL OF EDUCATION POLICY TITLED PSYCHO DATA, WHICH DETAILS THE CARDINAL IMPETUS OF SEL, I ASK AGAIN, IS IT REALLY SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN TO BE DATA MINED WITH DEEPLY PERSONAL TOPICS LIKE SEX, SEXUALITY, PUBERTY, RELATIONSHIPS, MENTAL HEALTH, SUICIDE ALL THE WHILE THE CAPACITY TO BUILD DETAILED PERSONALITY AND LEARNING INVENTORIES OF CHILDREN, WHICH IS A TACTIC TO NUDGE A UNITS IN CORPORATE MARKETING DEPARTMENTS AND HIGH TECH GOVERNANCE.

AND THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM IS ONE OF THEM.

YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT LINDA DARLING-HAMMOND.

HOW ABOUT MAURICE ELIAS, HENRY GIROUX? I MUST SAY THAT PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL CRITICAL MARXISTS OF THE 60S AND THE 70S IS HERBERT MARCUSE.

HE WROTE IN HIS FAMOUS ESSAY ON LIBERATION THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET TO A LIBERATED MARXIST SOCIALIST SOCIETY WOULD BE TO INTERJECT NEW VALUES, NEW RATIONALITY, AND A NEW SENSIBILITY INTO PEOPLE SO AS TO ENGENDER A BIOLOGICAL FOUNDATION FOR SOCIALISM AT THE LEVEL OF THEIR VITAL NEEDS.

THIS TYPE OF SEO WE ARE DEALING WITH IS NOT EXACTLY THE SAME SCOPE OF JAMES COMER, WHO PIONEERED SEL IN 1968, WHICH WOULD BE IN THE CATEGORY OF INDIVIDUAL INTERVENTION WITH WHOLE CHILD EDUCATION.

THIS SYSTEMIC SEL THAT IS WHAT TRANSFORMED IT IS WAS BIRTHED OUT OF A NEW AGE SPIRITUALIST ORGANIZATION CALLED THE FETZER INSTITUTE.

AND THEIR SACRED STORY IF I WERE TO SUM IT UP, LARGE STORY OF ONE GLOBAL HUMAN FAMILY CONNECTED IN LOVE, EVEN ACROSS OUR DIFFERENCES.

THEY GO ON TO SAY ONE COMMUNITY, ONE TRADITION, ALL TO LIVE IN BETTER HARMONY WITH EACH OTHER.

ALL THIS IS TO SAY, THE GOAL, EVEN FROM THE EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN, KLAUS SCHWAB OF THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM, INDICATED THAT IN HIS BOOK, THE GREAT NARRATIVE IS TO DEMAND AN ENVIRONMENTAL SOCIAL GOVERNANCE STANDARDS FOR A SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE FUTURE.

THIS WOULD BE PUSHED UNIVERSALLY BY CORPORATIONS TO PERSUADE FOR THE RADICALIZATION OF THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS THROUGH SOCIAL AND CRITICAL MARXIST EDUCATION.

AND HERE WE HAVE SEL. SO IN CLOSING, I REPEAT, IS IT CONDUCIVE TO INTERVENE ON A DIABOLICAL ROUTINE, ON A SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LIVES OF CHILDREN AND PERSONALLY INVASIVE WAYS, AS CAN MEAN TO CORRUPT THEM INTO WHAT MARXISTS BELIEVE WHAT IS RIGHT AND WRONG PERSPECTIVE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU. LESLIE POLES.

GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS LESLIE POLES.

HOW MANY MORE CHILDREN ARE EXPERIENCED BEING THE VICTIM OF VIOLENCE IN OUR SCHOOLS BEFORE THE ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IS ENFORCED.

ON AUGUST 28TH, MY FIFTH GRADER WAS SLAPPED ACROSS THE FACE ON THE BUS RIDE HOME BY AN EIGHTH GRADER, CAUSING HIM TO GET A NOSEBLEED.

ON SEPTEMBER 6TH, MY FIFTH GRADER WAS STABBED FOUR TIMES IN WITH A MECHANICAL PENCIL, THREE TIMES TO THE BACK AND ONE TIME TO THE ARM, CAUSING A DEEP GASH.

THIS HAPPENED AROUND 11:30 IN THE MORNING.

I WASN'T NOTIFIED UNTIL AROUND 2:32, WHEN THE SCHOOL NURSE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW IT HAPPENED.

SHE ASKED IF I'D LIKE A CALL FROM ADMIN.

AROUND 3 P.M..

THE AP CALLED TO FOLLOW UP WITH ME AND LET ME KNOW THAT THAT WASN'T THE CHILD'S NORMAL BEHAVIOR AND NOTHING MORE WOULD BE DONE.

ON OCTOBER 21ST, A SEVENTH GRADE BOY STABBED ANOTHER SEVENTH GRADE STUDENT IN THE FACE WITH A PEN.

OCTOBER 23RD AN EMAIL WAS SENT OUT TO THE SEVENTH GRADE FAMILIES LETTING US KNOW THAT THE BEHAVIORS ARE SO DISRUPTIVE, TEACHERS AREN'T ABLE TO TEACH THEIR CLASSES ANYMORE, AND ADMINISTRATION WOULD LIKE OUR US PARENTS TO TALK TO OUR STUDENTS.

ON OCTOBER 24TH, A SEVENTH GRADE STUDENT PUTS ANOTHER STUDENT IN A HEADLOCK, TAKING THE STUDENT TO THE GROUND, AND MULTIPLE KIDS BEGAN KICKING THE STUDENT IN THE HEAD, RIBS, STOMACH STOMPING ON HIS HEAD, CAUSING A CONCUSSION AND OTHER LASTING INJURIES.

ON OCTOBER 25TH, THE STUDENT WHO STABBED ANOTHER STUDENT IN THE FACE ON MONDAY PUNCHED ANOTHER STUDENT.

WHY IS HE BACK AT SCHOOL? THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER PHYSICAL ALTERCATION BETWEEN TWO OTHER SEVENTH GRADE BOYS AS WELL.

IN CONCLUSION, I WOULD LIKE TO RECOMMEND EITHER ENFORCING THE ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY OR REMOVING THE POLICY SIGN IF IT ISN'T GOING TO BE ENFORCED.

AND LASTLY, IF WE HAVE A MORE MEANINGFUL, IF WE HAVE MORE MEANINGFUL CONSEQUENCES FOR THE STUDENT'S ACTIONS, I BELIEVE VIOLENCE WOULD SLOW DOWN.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU. JENNIFER HANEY WHITBY.

[02:15:07]

GOOD EVENING. BOARD.

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SAY THANK YOU TO DENNY AND SHELLEY AND THE REST OF THE DISTRICT FOR MAKING THE NEEDED CHANGES TO OUR LIBRARY PROCEDURE.

I, VERY MUCH APPRECIATE THAT THIS NEW PROCEDURE INCLUDES LIBRARIANS COLLABORATING TOGETHER EACH YEAR TO ASSURE CONSISTENCY IN THE CONTENT OF EACH SCHOOL LIBRARY.

AND A MORE SPECIFIC PROCEDURE IS IN PLACE FOR THE PROCUREMENT OF LIBRARY MATERIALS, INCLUDING AGE APPROPRIATE GUIDANCE FROM VARIOUS RESOURCES, INCLUDING COMMON SENSE MEDIA.

I APPRECIATE THE ADDED SCRUTINY FOR BOOKS THAT CONTAIN SEX, PROFANITY, VIOLENCE, AND OR OBSCENITY.

I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT BOOK LOOKS BE INCLUDED, ALONG WITH COMMON SENSE MEDIA, SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WOULD GIVE LIBRARIANS ADDED INFORMATION THAT THE OTHER REVIEW JOURNALS MAY NOT INCLUDE.

AND I THINK ADDING INFORMATION IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING TO HELP THEM IN MAKING DECISIONS.

I'M VERY GLAD THAT THE NEW POLICY CONTAINS A GREATER EFFORT TO INFORM PARENTS OF THEIR RIGHTS TO MONITOR AND GUIDE THEIR STUDENTS ON THE USE OF THE LIBRARY.

I THINK THIS IS REALLY AN IMPORTANT MOVE TO DISTRICT TRANSPARENCY AND PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS.

I LIKE THE EXPANSION OF THE IMC.

I THINK THAT'S A BENEFICIAL CHANGE.

AND I APPRECIATE AT LEAST THE RECOGNITION THAT BOOKS MAY NEED TO BE RESTRICTED TO CERTAIN GRADE SPANS.

AS DENNY YOU AND I DISCOVERED WHEN LOOKING AT COMMON SENSE MEDIA, WE HAVE SOME BOOKS IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIES THAT ARE OKAY FOR THE UPPER GRADES, BUT MAY NOT BE FOR THE LOWER GRADES.

SO JUST IN CONCLUSION, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT THE DISTRICT DID THAT THE BOARD HAS DONE.

I KNOW IT'S BEEN A LONG PROCESS.

THANK YOU FOR THE THE SURVEY FOR THE THAT WENT OUT TO THE COMMUNITY FOR LOOKING AT OTHER SCHOOL POLICIES AND JUST ALL THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE.

AND I THINK THAT THIS IS GOING TO BE A VERY BENEFICIAL CHANGE.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. JESSICA COLE.

I LIKE THAT SHIRT.

HELLO, BOARD. MY NAME IS JESSICA COLE.

MY FIRST AND FOREMOST, I'M GLAD TO BE BACK IN TED'S GOOD GRACES.

I JUST WANTED TO TELL YOU REAL QUICKLY.

WE HAD THE PICKLEBALL FUNDRAISER THIS WEEKEND AT CHIEF, AND IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.

AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE CUSTODIAN, I BELIEVE HIS NAME IS PHILIP, WAS VERY KIND AND VERY HELPFUL.

AND I SO APPRECIATED HIM WORKING THAT EVENT.

AND ALSO THE DREAM TEAM STUDENTS DID A REALLY GREAT JOB SETTING UP AND STAFFING THEIR TABLE, AND IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE THEM THERE.

AND TALKING ABOUT BAZAARS.

THE RHL PTO HAS THEIR FIRST HOLIDAY BAZAAR AND JUNIOR MARKET THIS SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND.

AND I JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT CITY COUNCIL HAS SAID IN THE LAST MONTH AT THEIR MEETINGS THAT THE YMCA HAS DECIDED TO SELL THEIR PROPERTY ON RASMUSSEN AND 503, AND THERE WERE SOME LAST MINUTE CAN WE SALVAGE THE SITUATION.

AND IT SOUNDS LIKE I TALKED TO COUNSELORS OVERHOLSER AND FERRER, AND THEY SAID THAT THE Y HAS DECIDED TO FOR SURE SELL THE PROPERTY AND TO SO WE WILL NOT BE GETTING A YMCA IN OUR AREA, WHICH I FIND EXTREMELY DEVASTATING BECAUSE ALTHOUGH WE HAVE SOME GREAT PROGRAMS, SPORTS THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOLS HERE, WE HAVE ROCK SOLID THAT DOES STUFF FOR YOUTH.

I KNOW WE NEED MORE FOR OUR YOUTH HERE, FOR THEM TO HAVE A SAFE PLACE AND FOR THEM TO CONNECT.

AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO HAVE THAT THAT THERE.

AND IF I HEAR OF ANY OTHER UPDATES OR MAYBE A SECONDARY PLAN, I'LL LET YOU KNOW.

[02:20:01]

BUT I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THIS HAS BEEN IN THE WORKS IN A PLANNING STAGE FOR LIKE A DECADE OR SO, AND I APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S HELP TO TRY TO GET IT HERE.

AND I'M REALLY DEVASTATED THAT WE'RE NOT GETTING IT.

SO I JUST WANT TO LET YOU ALL KNOW.

YEAH. THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

THANKS. THAT CONCLUDES CITIZENS COMMENTS.

NEXT UP WE HAVE OUR CONSENT AGENDA ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA.

[8. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM OUR OCTOBER 14TH REGULAR MEETING.

BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS PERSONNEL REPORTS, STUDENT TRAVEL, COMPLETED PROJECTS, REQUESTS FOR APPROVAL.

PRINT SHOP EQUIPMENT LEASE WITH KONICA MINOLTA, EMERGES HEALTHCARE STAFFING, APPROVAL OF THE CARL PERKINS GRANT FOR CTE PROGRAMS AND APPROVAL OF THE SCHOOL SUPPORT ORGANIZATIONS FOR THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR.

DOES THE BOARD OR OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON ANY ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA? I HAD A COUPLE QUESTIONS.

I WAS JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE IS IT CALLED AMERICAS? IS THAT HOW YOU SAY IT? AMERIS HEALTHCARE STAFFING.

DO WE PAY MORE THAN WE DO IF WE HIRE STAFF? YES WE DO. AND THEN THERE'S JUST NO OTHER STAFFING AGENCIES AVAILABLE OTHER THAN THEY WE USE WE KNOW WE USE A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT STAFFING, HEALTHCARE STAFFING AGENCIES.

BUT YOU TYPICALLY IT COMES DOWN TO WHO HAS LESS PEOPLE.

WHO HAS PEOPLE. RIGHT.

SO I THINK WE'VE APPROVED OTHER STAFFING AGENCIES AT PAST BOARD MEETINGS OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS. OKAY.

IT JUST DEPENDS. BUT YES, WE ARE PAYING.

WE ARE PAYING MORE.

IT'S JUST LIKE IF YOU WENT TO A YOU KNOW, TO A JOB, YOU KNOW, IF YOU WERE A BUSINESS AND YOU HAD TO HIRE SOMEBODY FROM A STAFFING AGENCY, LIKE OVERLOAD OR OVERLOAD OR WORK OVERLOAD.

YEAH. GOT IT. AND SOMETIMES SOME OF THESE POSITIONS ARE FOR SOME OF THE UNIQUE NEEDS THAT SOME OF OUR STUDENTS MAY HAVE, LIKE FEEDING TUBES AND OTHER THINGS THAT A TYPICAL NURSE IS NOT GOING TO DO IN THE SCOPE OF THEIR WORK.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT ALL OF THE JOBS ARE ORIGINALLY POSTED THROUGH OUR PROCESS INTERNALLY.

YOU KNOW, JUST OUR REGULAR PROCESS.

AND OFTENTIMES WE GET NO APPLICANTS.

BUT LIKE, FOR INSTANCE, IF IT'S A NURSING SITUATION AND WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO ACCESS FREE AND APPROPRIATE PUBLIC EDUCATION. SO THEREFORE, WE TURN TO THE STAFFING AGENCIES IN TIMES OF SEVERE NEED.

AND THEN I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I LOVE THE CARL PERKINS GRANT AND THE COMPREHENSIVE MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM TO EXPLORE FUTURE CHOICES.

SO I WAS REALLY EXCITED TO READ ABOUT THAT AND THOUGHT IT WAS AMAZING.

CINDY IS HERE FROM CARL PERKINS AND SHE APPRECIATES THAT.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? IF NOT, I TAKE A MOTION.

I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR. I LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PROF. PROF. THANK YOU.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

NO OLD BUSINESS.

NO NEW BUSINESS.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ARE A BOARD MEETING IN A COUPLE WEEKS ON THE 12TH OF NOVEMBER.

[11. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

ANYTHING ELSE? LADYBUG BAZAAR.

RIVER HOMELINK BAZAAR.

TRUNK OR TREAT.

MEETING ADJOURNED AT 8:24.

THANK YOU EVERYONE.
