AND I BELIEVE WE HAVE A COUPLE OF STUDENTS HERE FROM TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME TO THE PODIUM.
TELL US YOUR NAME AND YOUR GRADE.
HELLO, I'M KYLIE BURLESON AND I GO TO TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND I AM AN EIGHTH GRADER.
HANG ON JUST A SECOND. YOU CAN COME UP HERE.
HI. MY NAME IS JOSEPHINE MALDINI.
OKAY. HELLO? I'M. I ALREADY SAID THAT, BUT.
HELLO, I'M KYLIE BURLESON AND I GO TO THE TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
I AM HERE TO REPRESENT OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE IN DREAM TEAM.
YOU'RE PROBABLY WONDERING WHAT THE DREAM TEAM IS.
THE DREAM TEAM IS A PROUD GROUP OF STUDENTS WHO PREVENT USE OF DRUGS AND SUICIDE.
WE GO ON ALL KINDS OF ADVENTURES, MEET NEW PEOPLE, AND LEARN WAYS TO HELP AND CONTRIBUTE TO OUR COMMUNITY LIKE DRUG TAKE BACK DAY WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND TEENS FOR TOMORROW PREVENTION TRAINING.
WE MAKE OUR PRODUCTS OUT OF 3D PRINTERS, VINYL CUTTERS, AND LEGO ROBOTS.
THE PRODUCTS WE SELL ARE HATS, BAGS, MUGS, TUMBLERS, FLEXI WOLVES, AND EARRINGS.
THIS YEAR WE ARE GOING TO START SELLING T SHIRTS AND SWEATSHIRTS.
WE TRY OUR BEST TO MAKE THESE PRODUCTS GOOD QUALITY AND FAIR PRICES.
THE PRODUCTS ARE YOUR EARRINGS.
KEYCHAINS. AND YOU GUYS MAKE ALL THIS YOURSELF? YEP. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF OUR FLEXI WOLVES.
WE MAKE ALL KINDS OF HATS LIKE THESE.
[00:05:06]
I LOVE THOSE.WE ALSO MAKE BAGS WITH CUSTOM NAMES ON THE BACK.
PENCIL POUCHES WITH ALSO CUSTOM NAMES ON THE BACK.
WITHOUT THEM, THE SCHOOL WOULDN'T HAVE A WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A POSITIVE PLACE.
ANY QUESTIONS? DO YOU DO YOU HAVE A CLASS WHERE YOU MAKE THESE OR DO YOU DO THIS OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL TIME? THIS IS BOTH CLASS AND OUT OF SCHOOL.
OKAY. AND YOU CAN STUDENTS CAN PUT IN ORDERS AND THEN YOU MAKE THEM, OR DO YOU JUST HAVE THEM FOR SALE? STUDENTS PUT IN ORDERS AND WE'LL MAKE THE ORDERS THAT THEY ASK FOR.
SO LEARNING SOME BUSINESS TOO, AT THE SAME TIME.
YEAH. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF COMING INTO YOUR CLASS LAST YEAR, AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.
WHAT I AND WHAT I REALLY FOUND ADMIRABLE IS HOW MUCH YOU GUYS ARE JUST ON TASK.
AND, I MEAN, THE IDEAS THAT ARE FLOWING.
YOU HAVE YOUR TEAMS THAT ARE WORKING AND DOING DIFFERENT THINGS.
I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE TUMBLER THAT I GOT.
IT WAS IT WAS INSCRIBED TO ME.
SO IT HAD MY NAME ON IT, AND IT'S ON MY DESK.
I WANT YOU TO KNOW, I USE IT EVERY DAY YOU KNOW, KEEPS ME DRINKING MY WATER, SO IT'S GOOD, BUT.
I WAS REALLY, REALLY IMPRESSED.
ARE YOU NOTICING THAT WITH WITH WITH STUDENTS? YEAH, I'M NOTICING AN INCREASE OF SCHOOL SPIRIT BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S WALKING AROUND WITH WITH TIMBERWOLVES STUFF.
YEAH, IT'S ACTUALLY VERY, VERY COOL.
YEAH. YEAH. THANK YOU GUYS FOR THAT.
YOU'RE WELCOME. DON'T YOU GUYS DO SOME THEMED STUFF TOO? IF I REMEMBER FROM THE TOUR LAST YEAR, WERE YOU DOING HOLIDAY STUFF? I YES, WE ARE FOR THE HOLIDAY BAZAAR.
WE'RE MAKING CHRISTMAS THEMED STUFF FOR, LIKE, OTHER RELIGIONS FOR CHRISTMAS.
YEAH. WELL, THANK YOU GUYS FOR JOINING US.
I KNOW THIS IS NOT EASY TO COME UP HERE.
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE FIRST ON THE AGENDA, IT'S LIKE OH, OKAY, WE'RE JUST GOING IN.
BUT YOU BOTH DID A WONDERFUL JOB AND.
HI. MY NAME IS JOSEPHINE MULVANY.
RIGHT NOW, I'M PARTICIPATING IN CROSS COUNTRY AND DREAM TEAM AND ADVANCED ART.
I'M DOING REALLY WELL AND SO IS MY TEAM, IN MY OPINION AT LEAST.
BUT I KNOW OTHERS THINK THAT TOO.
THIS LAST MEET WENT REALLY GOOD.
MY TIME IS I MEAN, MY TEAM IS REALLY SUPPORTIVE AND NICE.
MY FAMILY, FRIENDS AND TEACHERS AND OTHER PEOPLE WHO WORK AT THE SCHOOL ARE TOO.
ALSO LATER THIS YEAR WHEN TRACK AND FIELD STARTS UP, I INTEND TO JOIN THAT TOO.
I LOVE DOING THINGS THAT INVOLVE ART, LIKE THE MURAL, AND THAT'S WHY I PARTICIPATE IN ADVANCED ART.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.
ANY QUESTIONS? YES. YEAH. I WOULD ASK JULIE IF YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR HER ABOUT RUNNING.
YOU SHOULDN'T TAKE ADVICE FROM ME BECAUSE I HAVE TENDONITIS RIGHT NOW.
DO YOU KNOW WHICH HIGH SCHOOL YOU'RE GOING TO GO TO? BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.
OH, YEAH. I'LL TELL DONOVAN TO LOOK OUT FOR YOU, BRO.
I DO, I DO TRACK AND CROSS COUNTRY SO AND ALSO, IF YOU DO TRACK, THEN MAYBE WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO WORK SOMETHING OUT AND I MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP COACH YOU, WHICH WOULD BE KIND OF COOL. THAT'D BE REALLY NICE.
OF COURSE. DID YOU DO TRACK LAST YEAR? YEAH. OKAY. WAIT.
[00:10:10]
RELAY, SO I DID THE SEVENTH GRADE RELAY FOR THEM.THAT'S SO FUN. I DO HURDLES, I COULD COACH YOU, BUT THAT'S SO EXCITING.
HOW DID YOU GET INVOLVED WITH THE MURAL? WELL, I THINK THAT MY FRIEND NOVALEE, MY ART TEACHER, ASKED HER TO DO THE MURAL, BUT I THINK SHE ASKED US TO COME AND DO IT WITH HER.
JOSEPHINE, WILL YOUR SCHOOL BE PARTICIPATING AT KC ON THURSDAY.
YEAH. OH, WE'RE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.
YEAH. WE CAN JUST WALK OUT OUR OFFICE DOOR AND WATCH YOU GUYS AROUND.
WE'RE VERY EXCITED. THAT SHOULD BE A FUN COURSE FOR YOU GUYS TO RUN ON.
SO IT'S PRETTY COOL BACK THERE.
I'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR MURAL.
I DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS A SURPRISE OR SOMETHING.
BUT IT'S GOING TO ONE OF THE MURALS IS GOING TO BE ON THE.
SO THERE'S A HALLWAY AND ON SO THERE'S GOING TO BE A HILL GOING UP, AND THEN THERE'S GOING TO BE LIKE A LINE OF TWO WOLVES, AND THEN THE WOLF IN FRONT WILL BE HOWLING, AND THEN THE, THE BACKS OF THEM WILL KIND OF LIKE KIND OF BECOME SHAPES, I GUESS.
SOME MORE SCHOOL SPIRIT THOUGH, TOO.
YOU KNOW, YOU'VE GOT THE ART STUFF.
I JUST WANT TO SAY INTRODUCE BEN SITTING IN THE BACK.
HE'S THE PRINCIPAL OF TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
SO, BEN, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.
THANK YOU GUYS. AND YOUR PARENTS ARE HERE.
THIS IS A GREAT PART OF OUR EVENING TO HEAR FROM THE STUDENTS.
SO JUST KNOW WE APPRECIATE IT.
WANTED TO COME FORWARD TO TALK.
OKAY. HEARING NONE, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO OUR OWN STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR UPDATES.
ALL RIGHT. I'LL GO FIRST THIS TIME.
SO SINCE LAST MEETING, WE HAD OUR HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK, HOMECOMING HALFTIME SHOW AND HOMECOMING DANCE AND TALKING TO STEPHANIE WALTZ, OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, SHE GAVE US THE OPINION THAT THIS YEAR WAS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL YEARS.
BUT THIS YEAR WITH ASB IS TRYING TO CHANGE WHERE STUDENTS ARE TAKING BIGGER ROLES AND KIND OF TAKING LEAD AS STUDENTS LEADERS.
AND THIS WAS OUR FIRST YEAR ACTUALLY GOING TOWARDS THAT AND KIND OF LETTING OUR STUDENTS TAKE LEAD IN PLANNING ALL THESE EVENTS, AND IT DEFINITELY CAME OUT REALLY SUCCESSFUL.
A LOT OF PEOPLE HAD FUN AT THE HOMECOMING HALF HOMECOMING ASSEMBLY.
BUT I AS VICE PRESIDENT, I WANTED TO HEAR A LOT OF STUDENTS OPINIONS ON HOW EVERYTHING CAME OUT.
AND A LOT OF THE SENIORS SAID THAT THEIR THE HOMECOMING CAME OUT SO WELL THAT IT'S A MEMORY THAT THEY WON'T FORGET AND THAT WE HAD A LOT OF SCHOOL SPIRIT DURING HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK.
WE HAD ONE DAY WHERE IT WAS DRESSED AS YOUR GRADE, WHICH IS LIKE FRESHMEN WOULD DRESS UP AS BABIES AND THEN SOPHOMORES AS TEENAGERS, JUNIORS AS ADULTS AND SENIORS AS GRANDPARENTS.
AND THEN A LOT OF PEOPLE MADE LIKE LITTLE FAMILIES WITH EACH OTHER.
I PERSONALLY MADE A LITTLE FAMILY.
I HAD MY LITTLE FRESHMAN DRESS UP AS MY BABIES AND MY SIGNIFICANT OTHER WAS THE DAD OR WHATEVER.
AND THEN WE HAD MY OLDER FRIENDS BE THE GRANDPARENTS AND EVERYTHING.
IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. A LOT OF STUDENTS PARTICIPATED AND IT CAME OUT SUPER GREAT.
AND THERE WAS A VIDEO ON PRAIRIE ATHLETICS POSTED ABOUT THE DANCE, AND THE WHOLE
[00:15:03]
GYM WAS FILLED WITH JUST PEOPLE DANCING.IT WAS JUST EVERYBODY WAS DANCING, EVERYBODY HAD FUN, AND EVERYBODY LOVED THE MUSIC.
AND I JUST HAD A LOT OF POSITIVE COMMENTS.
AND THAT JUST MADE ME SO HAPPY TO HEAR THAT THIS YEAR WE'RE DOING A LOT OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND THEM TAKING LEAD AND JUST SEEING HOW POSITIVE IT CAME OUT. IT JUST MAKES ME REALLY HAPPY FOR THOSE THINGS COMING UP LIKE TRUNK OR TREAT.
[INAUDIBLE] WELL WHERE SHOULD I START? I GUESS I SHOULD START WITH MY SCHOOL.
SO SINCE OUR LAST MEETING WE HAD AT RIVER HOMELINK, WE HAD SIX ASSEMBLIES, AND WE HAD ALSO OUR FIRST ESCAPE ROOM NIGHT, WHICH WAS SUPER FUN.
SO IF YOU DON'T KNOW, RIVER HOMELINK IS A K-12 SCHOOL, WHICH MEANS WE HAVE A LOT WE HAVE A LOT OF KIND OF GROUND TO COVER WHEN IT COMES TO OUR EVENTS. SO WE WHEN WE DID OUR ASSEMBLIES, WE HAD A K THROUGH TWO ASSEMBLY, A THREE THROUGH SIX ASSEMBLY, AND THEN A SEVEN THROUGH 12 ASSEMBLY, WHICH IS LIKE THE BIG ASSEMBLY. AND WE HAD A PRETTY GOOD LIKE AN OVERALL POSITIVE WHAT'S THAT WORD? I DON'T KNOW, THE ASSEMBLIES WENT WELL AND WE HAD A LOT OF GOOD FEEDBACK FROM SPECIFICALLY THE K THROUGH TWO, ONE PARENTS LOVED IT.
THE THREE THROUGH SIX KIDS HAD SO MUCH FUN.
THEY DID LIKE THIS HOPSCOTCH RACE.
AND IT WAS LIKE IT WAS SO FUNNY.
I DIDN'T THINK THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HOPSCOTCH WAS, BUT THEY DIDN'T.
AND IT WAS TOO LATE BY THE TIME WE HAD DONE IT.
SO WE HAD A K THROUGH FIVE ESCAPE ROOM AND A SIX THROUGH 12 ESCAPE ROOM.
THERE WAS MUSICAL CHAIRS, THERE WERE BOARD GAMES AND ALL THAT STUFF, AND WE HAD LIKE HUGE LINES FOR EACH ESCAPE ROOM BECAUSE WE HAD THESE ESCAPE ROOMS. EACH ONE TOOK TWO CLASSROOMS. PRETTY MUCH IS HOW THAT WORKED.
AND IT WAS LIKE WE COULD HAVE HAD MORE, BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD COME.
AND WE'RE LIKE, NO, WHY WOULD WE DO THAT? AND IT WAS JUST ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS WHERE THE COMMUNITY OF RIVER LIKE, REALLY SHINED.
SO JUST KIND OF FLEXING ON ALL OF YOU GUYS, JUST SAYING, K THROUGH 12 SCHOOLS ARE WHERE IT'S AT.
BUT AND I ALSO WANTED TO TAKE A MOMENT, SO I RUN.
I RUN FOR BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL FOR CROSS COUNTRY, AND I'M NOT RUNNING RIGHT NOW.
BUT WHEN I WAS RUNNING, I DID NOTICE THE CROSSING GUARDS.
OKAY. NOBODY EVER TALKS ABOUT THE CROSSING GUARDS.
SO I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT HOW THE CROSSING GUARDS AND HOW THEY'RE LITERALLY THE BEST.
AND EVERY TIME WE'D GO ON OUR ROAD RUN, THEY'D LIKE, STOP EVERYTHING.
THERE'D BE LIKE, BUSSES AND THEY'D, LIKE, RUN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD.
THEY'RE LIKE, LET THEM GO. LET THEM GO.
THEY CAN'T STOP. AND THEY'RE LIKE, SO NICE.
AND THEY'D BE LIKE, HAVE A GOOD RUN, GOOD LUCK.
LIKE, KEEP GOING AND LIKE, JUST STUFF LIKE THAT.
THEY'RE LIKE, AGAIN, THIS ROUTE.
AND LIKE MY ENTIRE TEAM JUST HAS SO MANY AMAZING THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THE CROSSING GUARDS AND JUST HOW LIKE KIND THEY ARE AND HOW THEY WAVE AT EVERYBODY DRIVING BY, AND HOW THEY REALLY DO LOOK OUT FOR SAFETY FOR EVERY STUDENT AND EVERY PERSON CROSSING DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TO BE A STUDENT.
SO I DID WANT TO POINT THAT OUT.
AND SO THAT'S ON OCTOBER 25TH.
AND THEN WE HAVE A SPIRIT WEEK THAT WEEK TOO.
SO IT'S OCTOBER 21ST THROUGH THE 25TH.
AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE THEMES ARE RIGHT NOW, BUT THAT'S K THROUGH 12.
AND THEN THE FALL DANCE IS GRADES SEVEN THROUGH 12.
AND THEN THE DAY AFTER OUR FALL DANCE, BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL IS HAVING THEIR HOMECOMING.
SO AND THAT THEME IS NIGHT AT THE BAYOU.
SO IT'S LIKE PRINCESS AND THE FROG THEMED.
I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY GOOD THOUGH, BECAUSE THAT SOUNDS SO FUN.
SO THANK YOU FOR SAYING SOMETHING ABOUT THE CROSSING GUARDS.
THAT'S VERY NICE OF YOU. I LOVE THE CROSSING GUARDS.
IF THEY HAVE ZERO FANS, I AM DEAD.
ALL RIGHT. FROM THERE, WE'LL MOVE ON TO COMMITTEE REPORTS.
WE'LL START WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.
OKAY. SO THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME YOUR INPUT ON THE PRIORITIES FOR OUR POSITIONS.
AND I'M JUST GOING TO READ WHAT WE PRIORITIZED.
IT'S DIFFICULT BECAUSE SO MANY OF THEM ARE SIMILAR.
ACADEMIC RIGOR AND EQUITY IN PUBLIC EDUCATION.
AMPLY FUNDED STAFFING LEVELS ASSESSED VALUATION BASIS FOR LOCAL EFFORT ASSISTANCE, EQUITABLE FUNDING FOR RECOGNITION AND STAFF MIX, A REGIONALIZATION AND STAFF MIX, STARTING EQUITABLE SCHOOL FUNDING, FISCAL NOTES AND UNFUNDED MANDATES, FULL FUNDING OF BASIC EDUCATION, LOCAL CONTROL, AND SCHOOL AND
[00:20:07]
DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT FUNDING AND SUPPORT FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS. SO FUNDING WAS A BIG WORD THERE, OBVIOUSLY, AND I CAN FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO YOU.BUT THOSE WERE THE PRIORITIES THAT YOU HELPED ME CHOOSE, AND THANK YOU FOR THAT.
AND THOSE WILL WERE SENT ON TO THE WSSDA ADVOCACY DEPARTMENT, AND THAT'S PART OF HOW THEY FORM THEIR LEGISLATIVE POSITIONS.
OKAY. NEXT WE HAVE AN AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT.
WE HAVE AN AUDIT COMMITTEE MEETING.
WE HAVEN'T HAD OUR MEETING YET.
OKAY. BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.
BUT YOU'LL BE HAPPY TO KNOW THAT I HAVE ACTUALLY SOMETHING WRITTEN TO READ.
COLLEEN. COLLEEN OR COLLEEN? COLLEEN. COLLEEN O'NEILL WAS HONORED AT THE EVENT FOR ALL OF HER WORK AND ALL THAT SHE'S DONE.
AND IT WAS VERY TOUCHING, VERY MOVING.
I WISH WE ALL HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW HER AS WELL AS SOME DID OR DO.
SHE'S AROUND. SHE'S JUST RETIRED, YOU KNOW? BUT IT WAS JUST.
THE FUNDRAISER WAS COMBINED WITH A CELEBRATION OF ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY, AS WELL AS HONORING COLLEEN O'NEILL FOR HER TEN YEARS OF SERVICE IN WELCOMING THE FOUNDATION'S NEW PRESIDENT, ALISON BULLOCK.
I THOUGHT THE FOOD WAS WONDERFUL.
GUEST SPEAKERS WERE LYNELL MURRAY, DIRECTOR OF FEDERAL PROGRAMS. TAMRA SCHEETZ, DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SUPPORTS.
AND HEATHER ISHIMURA, PRINCIPAL OF BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.
THE BGF BOARD WOULD LIKE TO THANK BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE ENTIRE BGF COMMUNITY FOR ITS OVERWHELMING SUPPORT THIS YEAR, WHICH SAW THE LARGEST ATTENDED EVENT AND MOST DONATION IN BGF HISTORY.
WE ARE SO GRATEFUL TO ALL OF OUR SPONSORS, DONORS AND SUPPORTERS FOR MAKING THIS WORK POSSIBLE.
I PERSONALLY FOUND IT QUITE ENLIGHTENING.
I ALSO WANTED TO COMMENT THAT I HAVE RECEIVED AT LEAST A DOZEN PEOPLE HAVE COME UP TO ME AND TOLD ME HOW MUCH FUN THEY HAD STANDING IN LINE TO GET INTO THE EVENT BECAUSE OF MR. TATE AS THE GREETER WHO WAS TALKING TO EVERYBODY AND SHARING STORIES AND MAKING PEOPLE SMILE.
SO PEOPLE, PEOPLE AND I AM BEING VERY SERIOUS.
I HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE COME UP AND TELL ME THAT.
SO THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT AND PLAYING YOUR PART.
YEAH. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT.
YEAH I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY.
YEAH, WELL YOU'RE GOOD AT THAT FOR SURE.
NEXT WE HAVE OUR TOURS COMMITTEE.
WE DON'T HAVE ANY TOURS THAT ARE PASSED, BUT WE DO HAVE TOURS UPCOMING NEXT WEEK, I BELIEVE.
AND WE'LL GO OVER THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER IN THE MEETING.
AND THAT WOULD BRING US TO DIRECTORS REPORTS.
IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING TO REPORT ON, I HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING, BUT I JUST WANTED TO REMIND PEOPLE, IF YOU HAVE NOT IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE YOUR WSSDA VOTING, YOU WILL BE RECEIVING AN EMAIL TOMORROW REQUESTING YOUR VOTE.
AND SO JUST REMIND YOU TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL TOMORROW IF YOU HAVEN'T VOTED, PLEASE VOTE.
DOES ANYBODY ELSE AWARE THAT THERE'S A WEBINAR TOMORROW AT NOON? AND IF YOU JUST CHECK YOUR EMAIL FROM WSSDA, YOU'LL SEE THERE'S A LINK TO THIS NEW DIRECTOR'S WEBINAR, WHICH SOUNDS INTERESTING.
HAVE YOU DONE IT BEFORE? I HAVEN'T DONE IT.
THOSE ARE JUST THOSE TWO PIECES.
I ATTENDED THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING LAST WEEK, AND IT WAS A PANEL MEETING, WHICH WAS I PARTICIPATED IN THE PANEL AS A BOARD DIRECTOR, ALONG WITH DIRECTOR CHAMPINE.
AND TWO FORMER BOARD DIRECTORS, STEPHANIE MCCLINTOCK AND CURRENT BATTLE GROUND MAYOR TROY MCCOY.
[00:25:03]
WE GOT ASKED A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A BOARD DIRECTOR.WE ALL HAD EXPERIENCES TO SHARE.
I THINK JUST WHY WE RAN LIKE, WHY, WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO RUN FOR YOUR POSITION WAS KIND OF A GREAT QUESTION TO START OFF WITH, AND EVERYBODY REALLY HAD A DIFFERENT REASON.
AND SO AND THEN THEY WENT ROGUE ON ME AND SAID, AND WE HAVE A BONUS QUESTION.
AND I WAS LIKE, OH MY GOSH, I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO ANSWER.
BUT ANYWAYS, IT WAS WHAT SUCCESS HAVE YOU BROUGHT DURING DURING YOUR TIME OR DURING YOUR TERM? AND IT WAS VERY COOL TO HEAR HOW STEPHANIE MCCLINTOCK'S TALKED ABOUT THEY DID A SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH AND HOW PAINFUL IT WAS HOW EXPENSIVE IT WAS AND HOW HER LEGACY WAS THAT WITH HER BOARD WAS TO BUILD A SUCCESSION PLAN.
AND SO WITHIN WITHIN THE BOARD, AND TO WHICH TROY FOLLOWED WITH HIS SUCCESS, WAS BRINGING DENNY ON AS THE SUPERINTENDENT. IT WAS HARD NOT TO CORRECT HIM THAT I WAS PART OF THAT DECISION AS WELL.
AND SO BUT BUT SO IT WAS JUST KIND OF LIKE IT JUST KIND OF FOLLOWED.
RIGHT. AND THEN TED AND I TALKED A LITTLE BIT TOO ABOUT OURS, BUT IT WAS JUST IT WAS JUST VERY INTERESTING TO ME TO HEAR WHAT THEY FELT WAS THEIR LEGACY THAT THEY LEFT BEHIND. AND SO AND WE'VE HAD A GREAT RUN WITH SUPERINTENDENTS SINCE THAT TIME.
AND SO IT'S, IT'S BEEN WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU.
AND SO I JUST, I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD BECAUSE THAT REALLY SPOKE A LOT TO ME.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING TO THAT.
I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY WE'VE BEEN VERY FORTUNATE WITH THE CAC.
IS THAT THREE YEARS AGO, TWO YEARS AGO, WE HAD A STUDENT PANEL WHICH WAS REALLY WELL RECEIVED.
AND THEN LAST YEAR WE HAD A TEACHERS PANEL, WHICH WAS REALLY WELL RECEIVED.
AND THEN THIS YEAR WE HAD THE BOARD PANEL, WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS FABULOUS.
YEAH. AND AND WE'RE ALSO HAVING A PANEL IN, I THINK IT'S JANUARY OR FEBRUARY.
I DON'T REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE.
AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE OUR REPRESENTATIVES FROM OUR ALE SCHOOLS.
SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE REPRESENTATIVES FROM SUMMIT VIEW FROM RIVER HOMELINK FROM CAM, AND FROM BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY TO TALK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT GOES ON, BECAUSE A LOT OF PEOPLE AREN'T AWARE OF OUR, OUR ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS.
SO WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT HIGHLIGHT THOSE PROGRAMS. SO THE PANEL IDEA HAS BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL AND REALLY APPRECIATED THE BOARD MEMBERS FOR ATTENDING.
SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING THERE.
VERY INSIGHTFUL. AND WE GOT GREAT FEEDBACK FROM FROM THE CITIZENS ADVISORY GROUP.
ANY OTHER DIRECTORS REPORTS BEFORE WE MOVE ON? YES. EXCUSE ME.
I JUST WANTED TO SHARE A FEW THINGS THAT I HAVE LEARNED BECAUSE THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT THE SEL CURRICULUM.
I'M GOING TO BE ON THAT COMMITTEE, WHICH I'M VERY EXCITED ABOUT, TO BE A PART OF THAT AND LEARNING MORE ABOUT THAT PROCESS AND WORKING WITH THE OTHER PROFESSIONAL FOLKS THAT ARE GOING TO BE ON THAT AND THE COMMUNITY TOO REALLY WONDERING I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT.
I JUST WANTED TO JUST BRIEFLY SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF MY UNDERSTANDING OF THIS GRANT.
JUST BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THERE WAS FOR ME SOME MISUNDERSTANDING AND CONFUSION ON IT.
AND I THINK THAT MIGHT HELP THE COMMUNITY TO UNDERSTAND IT A LITTLE BIT BETTER, TOO.
AND I KNOW DENNY IS GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT TOO.
SO I'M JUST GOING TO JUST BRIEFLY GO OVER A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT I LEARNED RECENTLY.
THE GRANT WAS RECEIVED AND ACCEPTED IN OCTOBER OF 2023.
AND SINCE THAT PROCESS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE IN DECEMBER, WE'VE BEEN THE BOARD HAS BEEN MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT PUTTING THE STAFFING IN PLACE, THE CONTRACTS, AND THEN NOW IT'S AT A PLACE TO CHOOSE THAT CURRICULUM.
AND I THINK THERE MIGHT BE SOME CONFUSION WITH THE COMMUNITY, WITH RELATIONSHIP TO CASTLE, WHICH IS BEEN KIND OF A, A BIG, A BIG AREA THAT I MYSELF WANTED TO RESEARCH AND UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT.
[00:30:02]
CASTLE. CASTLE IS NOT IS IS LIKE A CLEARINGHOUSE.THIS IS WHAT I'VE COME TO LEARN ABOUT THE SEL THE AND THEY BASICALLY EVALUATE THE PROGRAM AND THEY EVALUATE THE CURRICULUM SO THAT WE CAN HAVE MAKE CHOICES.
AND I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE AND I DID SOME RESEARCH ON SOME OF THE, THE DOWN SIDE OF CASTLE.
BUT FROM WHAT I'M UNDERSTANDING ABOUT CHARACTER STRONG, WHICH IS A RESEARCH BASED CURRICULUM THAT WE ARE USING IT ISN'T ANY OF THOSE THINGS. IT FOCUSES ON GOAL SETTING, RESPONSIBLE DECISION MAKING, REGULATING EMOTIONS AND RESOLVING CONFLICT.
AND THOSE ARE JUST A FEW THINGS I'VE LEARNED.
AND I WAS JUST INTRIGUED BY IT AND WANTED TO DO MY OWN RESEARCH AND SHARE THAT WITH THE BOARD.
AND ALSO THE COMMUNITY, AND JUST HAVE IT BE SAID OUT LOUD SO THAT WE ALL HAVE MORE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT'S ABOUT AND HAVE A DEEPER A DEEPER DIVE INTO IT A LITTLE BIT MORE.
AND I THINK IF EACH OF US WERE TO DO OUR OWN RESEARCH, I THINK WE'D FIND THAT THAT THE CURRICULUM, I THINK IS BEING LOOKED AT FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
THAT'S WHAT I'M UNDERSTANDING.
IT'S NOT GOING TO BE JUST FORCED DOWN OUR THROATS OR, YOU KNOW, FORCED INTO THE COMMUNITY.
IT'S SOMETHING THAT IS BEING LOOKED AT IS A COMMUNITY FOCUSED CURRICULUM.
AND SO THAT'S WHAT I THAT'S WHAT I JUST WANTED TO SHARE TODAY, AND I'M IT DOES SHOW ALSO THAT IT INCREASES ACHIEVEMENT BY 11% AND THAT'S RESEARCH BASED.
SO THAT'S EXCITING TO KNOW THAT FOLKS ARE YOUNG PEOPLE ARE ACHIEVING MORE BY HAVING THIS KIND OF EXTRA SUPPORT IN THE SCHOOLS. AND ALSO IN OUR FAMILIES, IF WE TAKE SOME OF THESE CONCEPTS AND BRING THEM INTO OUR FAMILIES, IT DEFINITELY WOULD, I THINK, HELP THE SCHOOLS IN THEIR DAY TO DAY.
STILL LEARNING MYSELF, BUT I WAS EXCITED TO LEARN THESE THINGS AND FELT THAT THEY WERE GOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY AND FOR OUR STUDENTS TO KNOW TOO, THAT IT IS SOMETHING THAT'S BEING LOOKED AT.
IF I MAY, I'M GOING TO PIGGYBACK ON THAT FOR A MOMENT IN MY NEWBIE NESS.
OKAY. I WAS I WAS LIKEWISE CONFUSED.
I FOUND IT A LITTLE CONFUSING ABOUT HOW WE WERE BEING ASKED TO APPROVE SOMETHING THAT WE WERE ALREADY IN THE MIDDLE OF DOING AND MOVING FORWARD WITH, AND, AND I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT IF I HAD TO APPROVE IT, I COULD ALSO NOT APPROVE IT KIND OF A THING, YOU KNOW? AND SO I WAS REAL APPRECIATIVE OF THE CONVERSATION WE HAD ABOUT THAT AND HOW THIS ALL WORKS.
AND I KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO SAY SOME MORE, SO I'D LOVE TO HEAR THAT.
CAN I JUST COMMENT ON SOMETHING YOU JUST SAID? IF SOMETHING'S JUST BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU IF SOMETHING'S PUT BEFORE YOU AS A MOTION TO APPROVE YOU DON'T HAVE TO APPROVE IT.
IS THAT WHAT YOU MEANT? CAN YOU JUST CLARIFY THAT? BECAUSE THE THING THAT'S CONFUSING ABOUT IT THAT I'M STILL NOT CLEAR ON IS THE FACT THAT WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS FIVE YEAR GRANT THAT WE'RE PURSUING, AND IT INVOLVES GETTING CURRICULUM.
SO WHAT WE APPROVED WAS THE PROCESS TO NOW.
YEAH. NOW LET'S START WITH THE CURRICULUM.
THAT'S CORRECT. WE APPROVED AN RFP FOR THE CURRICULUM.
THAT'S CORRECT. THAT'S CORRECT.
AND I DON'T KNOW WHY I WOULD SAY NO TO THAT BECAUSE WASN'T THAT A PART OF WHAT THE ORIGINAL PLAN WAS TO DO SET FORTH IN 2023? YEAH, THEY'LL CERTAINLY BE AN OPPORTUNITY IN ALL OF OUR CURRICULUM PROCESSES TO APPROVE IT GO THROUGH.
RIGHT? YEAH, BUT I WOULDN'T SAY NO TO THE THE RFP OR WHATEVER IT WAS AN RFP. BUT YOU REALIZE EVERY TIME A VOTE IS PUT BEFORE YOU, YOU CAN SAY NO.
[00:35:04]
YOU CAN SAY, WELL, SURE, I CAN SAY NO.BUT IT WAS THE WAY YOU SAID IT IT'S LIKE I'M REQUIRED TO APPROVE IT OR NOT.
SAY THEN WE WOULDN'T TAKE THE GRANT AND WE WOULDN'T TAKE THE OTHER $4 MILLION.
I DON'T KNOW THAT. YEAH, I IT'S A LITTLE MORE CONVOLUTED THAN THAT, BUT THAT'S THE THAT'S THE POINT.
WHY WOULD I SAY NO TO SOMETHING THAT THE BOARD APPROVED IN 2023? THE BOARD DID NOT APPROVE IT IN 2023.
OKAY. DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK TO THE GRANT? YOU HAVE YOU HAVE DATES.
YOU CAN TALK ABOUT THAT IF YOU WANTED TO.
THE BOARD DOES NOT APPROVE A GRANT.
THE BOARD WAS NOTIFIED OF THE GRANT, CORRECT.
IN ON 10/9/2023 THERE WAS A PRESENTATION DONE.
[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]
LISA, DO YOU HAVE THAT PRESENTATION.SO THIS WAS A PRESENTATION THAT WAS DONE ON 10/9/2023.
IT WAS A IT WAS A COMBO PRESENTATION.
SO THE FIRST PART OF THE PRESENTATION WAS ACTUALLY LISA, CAN YOU SCROLL DOWN? SO ABOUT SAFE AND CARING.
SO WE DID A PRESENTATION ON THE HEALTHY YOUTH SURVEY.
CAN YOU GO TO THE KEEP GOING AND SEE IF IT GOES TO SOMETHING? MAYBE HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT.
SO THAT'S WHAT WE DID IN 2023.
SO YOU CAN SEE WE TALKED ABOUT WHAT THE PROJECT AWARE PROGRAM IS.
SO PROJECT AWARE ACTUALLY STANDS FOR ADVANCING WELLNESS AND RESILIENCY IN EDUCATION.
THAT'S WHAT THE ACRONYM STANDS FOR.
THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH IN OUR SCHOOLS.
AND SO THE GRANT HAS BEEN AWARDED SINCE 2004.
OUR PREVENTION INTERVENTION SERVICES WERE STARTED AT THAT TIME, WHICH IS IRONIC BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO SEE A PRESENTATION TONIGHT IN A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT ABOUT OUR PREVENTION INTERVENTION PEOPLE.
SO THAT'S WHEN WE STARTED WORKING WITH OUR MENTAL HEALTH AGENCIES.
WE STARTED WORKING WITH CHILDREN'S CENTER.
AND WHAT WAS THE OTHER ONE? COLUMBIA RIVER MENTAL HEALTH.
AND SO IN THIS PARTICULAR GRANT, THE AWARE GRANT 2.0, WE HAVE THREE POINTS TO MAKE HERE.
COMMUNITY AGENCIES AND MENTAL HEALTH AGENCIES ACROSS THE NATION WERE AWARDED THE GRANT.
WE WERE THE ONLY ONE IN THE STATE OF WASHINGTON WHO WERE AWARDED THE GRANT.
AND ONE OF THE KEY FACTORS THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SAID TO US WAS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE GOT THE GRANT WAS THAT WE SUSTAINED MANY OF THOSE PROGRAMS THAT WE STARTED WITH THE FIRST GRANT.
TERRY, TO YOUR POINT, I THINK YOU MENTIONED, YOU KNOW, I HAD SET ASIDE $500,000 EACH YEAR THAT WAS TO KEEP THOSE OTHER THINGS ALIVE ONCE THE GRANT ENDED. SO NOW THE NEW GRANT, LISA NEXT SLIDE.
THE NEW GRANT, IT HAS TWO, TWO MAIN GOALS.
IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER IN I BELIEVE IT WAS IN IN 4/8/24.
SO BOTH BOTH THE NEWBIES TO USE YOUR WORD YOU WERE HERE.
YOU APPROVED A CONTRACT WITH [INAUDIBLE].
[00:40:05]
AND THAT IS PART OF THE AWARE GRANT.AND I CAN TELL YOU THAT SINCE SINCE WE STARTED THAT IN SEPTEMBER, WE'VE HAD 97 TOTAL REFERRALS OF FAMILIES AND STUDENTS TO MENTAL HEALTH CARE.
35 APPOINTMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.
59 FAMILIES STUDENTS HAVE DONE ANONYMOUS SEARCHES TO TRY TO GET RECEIVE HELP.
WE'VE HAD 4812 TOTAL COMMUNICATIONS INVOLVING OUR FAMILIES AND STUDENTS WITH TEXTS, EMAILS, PHONE CALLS FOR THE 97 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN REFERRED TO PROVIDERS.
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A COOL STATISTIC THAT SO FAR [INAUDIBLE] HAS COMMUNICATED WITH OUR FAMILIES FOR 5792 MINUTES AND COMMUNICATED WITH OTHER PROVIDERS AND TRYING TO HOOK OUR FAMILIES UP WITH SERVICES FOR 1473 MINUTES AND COMMUNICATED WITH STAFF FOR 366 MINUTES.
SOME OF THE OTHER ACTIVITIES, LIKE THE YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID.
WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND SOME OF OUR SUPPORT SERVICES IN THE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN A SMALL PART OF THE PROGRAM OF THE OVERALL GRANT IS TO WE ALREADY HAVE SEL PROGRAMS WE USE.
AS DEBBIE POINTED OUT, WE USE CHARACTER STRONG IN GRADES K THROUGH EIGHT.
WE DO NOT HAVE AN SEL PROGRAM IN OUR HIGH SCHOOL.
SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE EXPLORING HERE.
AGAIN, TO DEBBIE'S POINT, AND THANK YOU FOR SAYING THOSE THINGS.
THEY DON'T HAVE ANY PART. IT JUST NEEDS TO BE ON THE LIST THAT MET THIS CRITERIA.
WE DON'T DETERMINE THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WORKS WITH CASTLE TO DETERMINE THAT.
AND AS AS DEBBIE SAID, THERE'S 98.
THERE'S A RANGE OF 98 DIFFERENT ONES.
WHEN WE PUT OUT OUR RFP, WE GOT 13.
WE PUT IT OUT SPECIFICALLY FOR HIGH SCHOOL.
WE GOT 13 VENDORS WHO SAID, WE'D LIKE YOU TO LOOK AT OUR PROGRAM.
SO THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT.
OUR GROUP IS GOING TO BE MEETING ALL THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE FALL INTO THE WINTER.
AND IN SPRING, THEY'LL NARROW DOWN THOSE CHOICES TO PROBABLY 2 OR 3.
AND THEN THEY'LL, THEY'LL THEY'LL TEST THEM.
THERE MIGHT BE SOME PILOTING IN SOME OF OUR, OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS.
WE WILL AT THAT TIME RELEASE IT TO OUR COMMUNITY SO THAT OUR COMMUNITY CAN INVESTIGATE IT.
THERE'LL BE A MONTH LONG PERIOD WHERE OUR COMMUNITY CAN REVIEW THE CURRICULUM, TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
AS DEBBIE SAID, WE DID THAT LAST YEAR.
YOU GUYS APPROVED THE CHARACTER STRONG.
WE WENT THROUGH THAT AND THAT WAS ALSO GIVEN TO OUR COMMUNITY AND IT WAS FOUND TO BE ACCEPTABLE.
SO I'M HOPEFUL THAT WE CAN FIND THAT SAME THING.
BUT AGAIN, TO TERRY'S POINT, THE BOARD WILL HAVE A DECISION TO MAKE AT THAT POINT WHETHER OR NOT YOU'LL BE ABLE TO REVIEW THE CURRICULUM, TOO, AND YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT SO. SO THE CASTLE ROLE IN THIS IS, IS VERY, VERY, VERY SMALL, MINUTE IS THE WORD THAT I, I HAVE USED FOR THIS. AND SO TO DEBBIE'S POINT, IT COVERS A WHOLE BUNCH OF DIFFERENT THINGS.
AND THERE IS GOOD STUDIES OUT THERE THAT SHOW THAT IT DOES INCREASE STUDENT LEARNING.
THEY CAN'T LEARN IF THEY'RE DYSREGULATED.
THEY CAN'T LEARN IF THEY'RE UPSET.
THEY CAN'T LEARN IF THEY'RE STRUGGLING.
AND SO THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL CURRICULUM, AS WE'VE SEEN IN OUR SEL ROOMS HELPS HELPS JUST KIDS GET KIDS READY TO, TO LEARN.
SO THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT.
AND I APPRECIATE DEBBIE AND THE REST OF THE BOARD FOR FOR BRINGING IT UP AND CLARIFYING IT.
I HAVE A QUESTION OR CLARIFICATION.
SO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS CASTLE DOES NOT EVALUATE THE GRANT, RIGHT? NO. CASTLE. CASTLE IS NOT THE ORIGINATOR OF THE GRANT.
NO, NO. AND CASTLE DOES NOT WRITE THE CURRICULUM.
CASTLE IS ACTUALLY SEPARATE FROM THIS GRANT.
FOR SEL CURRICULUMS, BASICALLY, IT'S A CLEARINGHOUSE.
IT'S BASICALLY THE WAY IT'S REFERRED TO.
FOR RIGHT NOW, IT'S JUST A CLEARINGHOUSE, RIGHT? WILL YOU REMIND ME WHO GAVE US THE GRANT? IT'S AN ACRONYM, SO.
SAMHSA. SO IT STANDS FOR THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION SPEAKERS]. WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, WHAT USED TO BE THE OLD HEALTH, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT IS NOW CHANGED
[00:45:07]
TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION.THANK YOU. SO TO HELP ME TO UNDERSTAND AGAIN, IT SOUNDS LIKE THEN IN MY MIND, WHAT YOU'RE SAYING IS THAT THERE ARE WAYS OF SPENDING THIS MONEY THAT WE CONSIDER AND WE MAY OR MAY NOT CHOOSE TO GO IN A CERTAIN PATH, LIKE THE GROUP THAT WE CONTRACTED WITH FOR SERVICES, YOU KNOW, THE COUNSELING SERVICES AND THINGS WE CONTRACTED WITH THOSE FOLKS.
SO THAT'S THE SAME THING WITH THE CURRICULUM, WITH THE SEL CURRICULUM? YES. FOR HIGH SCHOOL, IF WE IF WE BROUGHT FORTH A CURRICULUM, FOR INSTANCE, AND THE BOARD WAS TO FIND THE COMMUNITY, AND THE BOARD WAS TO FIND THAT CURRICULUM NOT ACCEPTABLE, WE WOULD SIMPLY GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD AND TRY AGAIN.
SURE. UNTIL WE FOUND ONE THAT FIT THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR STUDENTS.
THIS IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE'RE EXPECTED TO DELIVER ON OVER THE COURSE OF THE GRANT, WE ARE EXPECTED TO PUT IN A HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM TO HELP SUPPORT STUDENTS WITH THEIR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING.
SURE. SO THAT'S JUST ONE ASPECT.
I JUST HAD TWO OTHER QUESTIONS THAT ARE JUST GOING TO THROW OUT THERE.
AND THEN ALSO JUST HEARING FROM STUDENTS, YOU KNOW, GETTING FEEDBACK FROM ACTUAL STUDENTS WHO ARE RECEIVING THIS SUPPORT AND HOW IT'S HELPING THEM. I WOULD LOVE, LOVE TO HEAR THOSE, THOSE TWO THINGS.
I KNOW WE WE RECEIVED SOME OF IT DURING OUR BOARD TOURS WHEN WE'VE BEEN VISITING THE SEL ROOMS, BUT WE COULD CERTAINLY DO A MORE THOROUGH AND DEEP DIVE INTO THAT AND BRING SOME OF THAT. AND I DO THINK YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT TODAY AS THE FIRST CASTLE GRANT.
I MEAN, IT'S THE FIRST CASTLE GRANT GOT ME.
I APOLOGIZE DEEPLY THAT THE FIRST SAMHSA GRANT THE FIRST AWARE GRANT.
THANK YOU. AND AM I CORRECT TO ASSUME THAT THERE IS AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR ON THIS GRANT, AS THERE ARE IN MOST GRANTS? THE INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR WAS APPROVED BY THE BOARD ON 4/8/24, AND THAT'S THE OSBORN COLLECTIVE.
THEY WORKED WITH US ON OUR FIRST GRANT, AND WE ALSO HAVE ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT, A FIVE YEAR AGREEMENT WITH OSPI, WHO WILL MONITOR US AND THE FIVE YEAR AGREEMENT WITH THE WASHINGTON STATE HEALTH CARE AUTHORITY.
SO WE'LL HAVE AN INDEPENDENT EVALUATOR.
WE'LL ALSO BE EVALUATED BY OSPI.
WE'LL ALSO BE EVALUATED BY THE WASHINGTON HEALTH.
ALL OF WHOM I'M ASSUMING WILL HAVE TO GATHER DATA.
YES. AND THEY WILL GATHER DATA.
SO YOU'LL SEE THE END RESULTS.
THANK YOU. SO DOES THE K THROUGH EIGHT SEL PROGRAM GENERATE MEASURABLE DATA? YEAH, I MEAN, I.
PART OF WHAT IT MEASURES IS HOW MANY MINUTES ARE SPENT ON THE, WITH THE CURRICULUM, SOME OF THOSE TYPES OF MEASURABLES IN TERMS OF WHETHER STUDENTS ARE TAKING THAT IN, I'D HAVE TO LEAVE THAT TO TAMRA TO SPEAK TO.
DO YOU WANT TO SAY ANYTHING HERE? SURE. SO ONE OF THE WAYS THAT WE GATHER DATA ON THIS IS THROUGH ANY OF THE THAT'S THEIR WAY OF SAYING YOU'RE NOT USING YOUR TEACHER VOICE.
SO WE COLLECT DATA IN A VARIETY OF WAYS.
BUT THEN WE PAIR THAT WITH OTHER PIECES OF DATA LIKE OUR BEHAVIORAL DATA.
[00:50:02]
PUTTING INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS IN PLACE.ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE LIKE TO DO IS SEE IF THERE'S A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TYPES OF LESSONS THAT WE HAVE TAUGHT THROUGH CHARACTER STRONG VERSUS THE TYPES OF BEHAVIORS THAT WE'RE SEEING, BECAUSE THEN WE CAN GO IN AND DO SOME ADDITIONAL LESSONS IN THE AREAS THAT KIDS MIGHT BE STRUGGLING WITH.
SO THAT'S ANOTHER WAY THAT WE LOOK AT DATA.
THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME. I THINK THE COMMUNITY WOULD WOULD AND OUR INTERACTION WITH THE COMMUNITY WOULD BENEFIT FROM HAVING MORE OF THAT SUCCESSFUL DATA TALKED ABOUT MORE FREQUENTLY.
IT WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BE WE'RE GOING TO HEAR SOME DATA TODAY.
BUT IT WAS ALWAYS OUR PLAN TO PRESENT THE DATA AS, AS YOU SAID, TERRY, THE FIRST YEAR OF THE GRANT, WHICH WAS LAST YEAR, WAS REALLY JUST A PLANNING STAGE, GETTING STAFF IN PLACE, SIGNING CONTRACT AGREEMENTS, STARTING PROCESSES.
SO THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR WHERE WE'RE STARTING TO DO THE TRAININGS.
SO WE'D BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THAT.
SO DATA WILL BE WILL BE FORTHCOMING AS WE MOVE INTO THAT.
I WAS REFERRING TO K THROUGH EIGHT.
WE KIND OF GET AN ANNUAL REPORT, YOU KNOW, MAYBE IN THE DATA THAT WE RECEIVING, IT'S IN THERE.
YEAH, I THINK I THINK TO TAMRA'S POINT, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT REFLECTED IN OUR DISCIPLINE DATA.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT REFLECTED IN OUR ATTENDANCE DATA.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THAT REFLECTED IN ACADEMIC SUCCESS.
SURE. THAT'S WHERE WE HOPE YOU'LL SEE IT.
ANYTHING ELSE? NO. IS THAT YOUR UPDATE? THAT'S MY UPDATE.
I'M GOING TO TURN IT RIGHT OVER TO SHELLY.
WELL, THAT'S WONDERFUL BECAUSE, TAMRA, WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT TONIGHT ABOUT PREVENTION INTERVENTION AND I'LL LET TAMRA GET US GOING AND INTRODUCE SOME KEY PEOPLE TO YOU.
THERE'S A FEW WAYS THAT OUR PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION SPECIALISTS DO THAT, ALL RANGING ALL THE WAY FROM WHOLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES DOWN TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENT ACTIVITIES.
SO SOME OF THE SCHOOL WIDE THINGS THAT THAT OUR PIS DO TO HELP STUDENTS WITH MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES, TO HELP THEM TO REDUCE OR PREVENT THE LIKELIHOOD THAT THEY WILL ENGAGE WITH ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND OTHER DRUGS INCLUDE SOME AWARENESS ACTIVITIES.
SO SOME OF YOU MAY HAVE HEARD ME TALKING ABOUT RED RIBBON WEEK, WHICH IS COMING UP.
IT'S OCTOBER 23RD THROUGH THE 31ST.
AND WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT AS WE GO ON.
THERE ALSO ARE SOME PREVENTION CLUBS.
YOU HEARD FROM TWO DELIGHTFUL YOUNG WOMEN WHO ARE INVOLVED IN OUR DREAM TEAM EARLIER TODAY.
I HAD NO IDEA THAT THEY WERE COMING, AND I WAS THRILLED THAT THEY WERE HERE TO TALK TO YOU TODAY BECAUSE THE DREAM TEAM IS ALSO TIED IN WITH OUR PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES. SO THE DREAM TEAMS, WE CURRENTLY HAVE ONE AT SCHEETZ MIDDLE SCHOOL THAT'S BEEN LONG ESTABLISHED.
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, ONE WAS STARTED AT TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND WE ARE WORKING ON GETTING ONE UP AND RUNNING AT PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, WITH HOPES TO CONTINUE GROWING THAT THAT GROUP.
SO IT'S A GROUP OF OF STUDENTS.
[00:55:01]
SO IT'S A LOT ABOUT CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY.AND THE DREAM TEAMS ARE SUPPORTED BY OUR PREVENTION INTERVENTION SPECIALISTS AS WELL.
THERE ALSO HAVE BEEN SOME PARENT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT NIGHTS LAST YEAR, I BELIEVE IT WAS ABOUT THIS TIME LAST YEAR, THERE WAS A MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES COMMUNITY AND PARENT ENGAGEMENT NIGHT AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.
THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ATTENDED.
OH THAT'S TRUE. THERE WAS ONE ON FENTANYL.
THAT WAS ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO AT CHIEF.
SO MOVING FROM SCHOOL WIDE TO CLASSROOM.
WE OUR PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION SPECIALIST PIS.
I'M JUST GOING TO CALL THEM THAT FROM NOW ON.
OUR PIES DO WORK WITH OUR FIFTH AND SEVENTH GRADE CLASSES.
THEY GO IN AND DO SOME PREVENTION EDUCATION WITH ALL FIFTH AND SEVENTH GRADERS.
THEY ALSO DO SOME PREVENTION EDUCATION WITH NINTH GRADERS.
THE PURPOSE FOR THAT IS TWOFOLD.
SO THEY'RE FAMILIAR WITH SOMEBODY WHO'S A POSITIVE, FRIENDLY FACE.
AND ALSO IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START PREVENTION WORK.
BUT IT REALLY IS WITH THAT, THAT LENS ON PREVENTING FOR FUTURE BEHAVIOR.
FOR STUDENTS WHO HAVE ALREADY ENGAGED WITH THESE BEHAVIORS OR WHO MAYBE KNOW SOMEBODY, A FAMILY MEMBER, A FRIEND WHO WAS AFFECTED BY ALCOHOL, TOBACCO OR OTHER DRUGS THERE ARE A VARIETY OF SKILLS GROUPS THAT THEY CAN ATTEND TO HELP THEM WORK THROUGH THOSE THINGS.
SO FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE CAUGHT USING ON CAMPUS, THEY ARE PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY TO ELECT FOR LESSER DISCIPLINE, BUT ONLY IF THEY ENGAGE WITH THEIR PREVENTION INTERVENTION SPECIALIST.
SO THEY CAN TAKE A SERIES OF 4 TO 6 CLASSES TO HELP PREVENT FURTHER USE.
IF THEY DON'T ENGAGE WITH THAT, THEIR DISCIPLINE GOES BACK TO WHAT IT WAS ORIGINALLY.
BUT THE IDEA IS TO USE THIS AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH STUDENTS SOME HABITS, AND ALSO SOME STRATEGIES AND SOME TRUTHS ABOUT CONTINUING TO TO ENGAGE WITH THOSE KINDS OF BEHAVIORS.
WE PROVIDED A SURVEY TO ALL STUDENTS WHO WENT THROUGH ANY TYPE OF PI ACTIVITY LAST YEAR.
SO WE HAD THIS DATA REFLECTS 1049 RESPONSES.
SO THOSE ARE CLASSROOMS THAT PIS WENT INTO TO TEACH PREVENTION ED, THESE ARE STUDENTS WHO TOOK SOME QUITTING NICOTINE ONE ON ONE CLASSES AND EVERYWHERE IN BETWEEN. IT WAS DONE ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 5, ONE BEING LOW, FIVE BEING HIGH.
THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY ANSWERED THAT THEY DID BETWEEN 5 AND 4.
AND THEN WE HAVE ABOUT 9% OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ANSWERED 1 OR 2 TO THAT QUESTION.
ALSO, WE ASKED THEM IF THEY ARE GLAD THAT THEY PARTICIPATED IN THE PROGRAM.
AGAIN, WE HAVE LET'S SEE, 64%.
WE'RE IN THE FIVE AND FOUR RANGE, AND THEN WE HAVE ABOUT 11 ISH PERCENT, 12% IN THE 1 TO 2 RANGE. SO OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE THAT STUDENTS FELT ABOUT THE PROGRAM.
WE ASKED, HAS THIS INFORMATION MADE IT LESS LIKELY THAT YOU WILL INTERACT WITH SUBSTANCES IN THE FUTURE? 74% OF OUR STUDENTS SAID YES.
18% SAID NOT SURE AND 7% SAID NO.
AND THEN FINALLY, I BELIEVE YOUNG PEOPLE RISK HARMING THEMSELVES BY USING ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCES.
[01:00:05]
66% OF OUR STUDENTS AFTER THEY RECEIVED THESE SERVICES SAID YES.28% SAID THERE WAS A MODERATE RISK AND 5% SAID THERE WAS NO RISK.
OKAY. I WANTED TO SHOW YOU A LITTLE BIT.
I WANT TO BRING THE PROGRAM TO LIFE FOR YOU.
I WANT YOU TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
AND SO I KNOW THAT YOU'VE EXPERIENCED HAVING A PI IN YOUR SCHOOL.
SO WE HAVE A FULL TIME PI IN EVERY HIGH SCHOOL AND A HALF TIME PI IN EVERY HIGH SCHOOL.
AND THEN WE HAVE A 0.5 A HALF TIME PI IN EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND I REACH OUT TO THE TEAM AND WE FIND SOMEBODY WITH A CAPACITY TO GO SUPPORT AT THE ALES.
SO HERE ARE SOME ACTIVITIES FROM LAST YEAR'S RED RIBBON WEEK.
WE HAVE [INAUDIBLE] OVER HERE ON THAT SIDE FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.
AND THEN WE HAVE FELICIA SANDBERG ON THIS SIDE.
LOOKS LIKE THAT'S AT AMBOY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND THEY ARE WITH THE INFAMOUS WHEEL.
THEY HAVE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT HEALTHY CHOICES AND FACTS TO HELP THEM TO UNDERSTAND DRUG AND ALCOHOL AWARENESS.
AND SO THAT'S THE ACTIVITIES THAT YOU SEE HERE.
WE'VE GOT SOME DREAM TEAM PICTURES.
WE TALKED ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER.
WE WERE HONORED THAT ONE OF OUR DREAM TEAMS COMPETED IN KARI WAS IT SPOKANE? GREAT WOLF LODGE. OH, IS IT GREAT WOLF LODGE? THAT'S RIGHT. THEY COMPETED.
THIS IS A PICTURE OF SOME OF THOSE DREAM TEAM STUDENTS AT NATIONALS IN WASHINGTON, D.C..
THIS IS A DOOR DECORATING CAMPAIGN DURING RED RIBBON WEEK.
AND THEN ALSO UPCOMING, THERE IS GOING TO BE THE FIRST ANNUAL PICKLEBALL FOR PREVENTION.
I BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE SOME PICKLEBALL AFICIONADOS ON THE BOARD.
AND THERE'S A AN EVENT ON OCTOBER 26TH THAT'S DURING RED RIBBON WEEK AT THE CHIEF GYM.
SO WE HOPE TO SEE SOME PEOPLE JOIN WITH THAT.
I WOULD LIKE TO BRING OUR PIS UP.
WILL YOU GUYS COME FORWARD, PLEASE? I'M GOING TO HAVE YOU INTRODUCE YOURSELF.
OH, OKAY. I'M AMY WARNKE AND I WORK AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.
AND I'M KRISTEN MCHENRY, AND I'M AT LAUREN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
KARI KOLLER OBERG AND I AM AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL AND PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL.
QUESTIONS? OBVIOUSLY THERE'S ALWAYS MORE THINGS WE NEED TO BE DOING.
WE NEED MORE, WHATEVER IT IS, MORE PIS, MORE MORE BIGGER PIS, MORE MONEY, YOU KNOW.
BUT THAT WAS KIND OF SOUNDED LIKE TO ME.
WAIT, DON'T YOU HAVE A SLUSH FUND? YOU SHOULD BUY THE WHEEL.
BUT THINK DEEPLY BECAUSE IF THAT'S ALL WE'RE LACKING, THEN HONESTLY, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE LIKE.
IT'S LIKE EVERYTHING'S COVERED.
WE WE CAN ALWAYS USE MORE, MORE PREVENTION.
WE LOST A FULL TIME WITH THE BUDGET CUTS.
AND SO THAT'S WE FELT THAT AS A TEAM.
BUT WE'RE WORKING REALLY HARD TO KEEP THAT UP.
I ALSO HAVE THIS DREAM THAT WE CAN PILOT VAPE SENSORS.
[01:05:06]
KIDS COULD GO INTO THE BATHROOM AND NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT OTHER KIDS VAPING IN THERE, AND THAT IT WOULD BE A DETERRENT.SO I HAVE SOME INFORMATION IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THAT.
SO ON HERE, IT SAYS THAT WHEN IT SAYS ALTERNATIVE TO DISCIPLINE, WHEN IT SAYS CLASSES WITH THE PI.
ARE THOSE CLASSES LIKE WITH MORE STUDENTS? LIKE, IS IT A LOT OF STUDENTS? WE DO GROUPS.
AND AFTER WE GET A HANDFUL OF THEM, WE'LL PUT GROUPS TOGETHER.
AND THEN WE MEET ONCE A WEEK FOR FOUR WEEKS IN THE GROUPS.
AND THEN I ALSO HAD ANOTHER QUESTION ABOUT THAT.
SO AT THESE CLASSES, I KNOW WHEN I WAS LOOKING AT THE DATA, A LOT OF STUDENTS GAVE LIKE FIVES OR SAID THAT THEY WOULD THEY WOULDN'T EVER POSSIBLY DO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL.
AT THESE CLASSES DO YOU EVER HAVE SOME SORT OF STUDENT VOICE OF LIKE, KIDS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE CLASS AND HAVE COME AND KIND OF TALKED ABOUT HOW THE CLASSES HELPED THEM? BECAUSE I KNOW A LOT OF STUDENTS KIND OF LEARN FROM EACH OTHER AND KIND OF I KNOW A LOT OF KIDS WHO MAYBE HAVE GONE THROUGH CERTAIN MISTAKES OF DOING DRUGS OR DOING ALCOHOL, AND THEN HEARING FROM ANOTHER STUDENT OF HOW THESE CLASSES KIND OF HELPED THEM INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT THE CLASS IN A BAD WAY.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE EVER THOUGHT OF THAT IDEA OF POSSIBLY BRINGING SOME STUDENTS WHO ARE COMFORTABLE IN TALKING ABOUT KIND OF THEIR PAST SITUATION AND HOW THE CLASS HAS AFFECTED THEM IN A POSITIVE WAY, AND HOW THEY KIND OF GOT THROUGH IT.
AND YEAH, THAT'S KIND OF MY QUESTION.
AND I'M ACTUALLY KIND OF REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS.
THE OTHER THING THAT I DO IS I DO.
AND I THINK THAT'S A GOOD PART OF THAT.
THAT THE KIDS WON AT STATE TWO YEARS AGO AT GREAT WOLF LODGE, THERE WERE 40 TEAMS FROM AROUND THE STATE AND 37 OF THEM WERE HIGH SCHOOLS, THREE WERE MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND CHIEF WON, SO I'M STILL PROUD.
I THINK IT'S AMAZING THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE LEADING EACH OTHER IN THIS WORK.
SO THANK YOU FOR THE LEADERSHIP THAT YOU'RE GIVING THEM IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
SOMEONE ELSE I'VE GOT SOMETHING.
AND OUR OWN STUDENT REPS ADVOCATING FOR MORE STUDENTS, TEACHING STUDENTS AND NOT THAT AND IT JUST REQUIRES THE LEADERSHIP TO LET THEM GO. SO THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND THE SERVICE YOU'RE GIVING BECAUSE IT'S JUST HUGE.
AND SO I'LL AGE MYSELF, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE THESE WHEN I WAS IN SCHOOL, AND IT'S A HUGE I MEAN, WE DIDN'T GET TOLD IT WASN'T A BAD.
IT WAS A BAD THING, RIGHT? SO THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING IS REALLY IMPORTANT.
GO AHEAD. THE BEST PART IS BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE STUDENTS.
YEAH. SO DATA SHOWING TRENDS WITH REGARD TO THE ISSUES THAT YOU'RE ADDRESSING.
IS THERE DATA WE'RE COLLECTING? AND ARE THE TRENDS SHOWING AN INCREASING PROBLEM OR A DECREASING PROBLEM? WELL, I FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY KRISTEN IS BRAND NEW TO US.
SO SO WE DIDN'T WANT TO PUT HER ON THE SPOT.
WE ARE SO EXCITED TO HAVE HER.
SHE IS HOW IT JUST STARTED THE SCHOOL YEAR.
SO BUT AS FAR AS THE DATA GOES, I'M TRYING NOT TO BE OVERLY OPTIMISTIC.
[01:10:02]
I WANT US TO BE OUT OF A JOB ONE DAY BECAUSE KIDS ARE NOT USING DRUGS AND ALCOHOL IN OUR SCHOOLS.AND SO THERE HAVE BEEN LESS REFERRALS THIS YEAR SO FAR, JUST ANECDOTALLY.
BUT I, I HOPE THAT THAT TREND CONTINUES.
WE'RE WORKING HARD THAT IT WILL.
SO YOU'RE SAYING THAT YOU'RE HOPING THAT DATA IS COMING IN OR THE DATA HAS COME IN? WELL, WE SEE ALL THE REFERRALS FOR THE DRUG AND ALCOHOL REFERRALS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
AND THERE ARE LESS THAN THERE USUALLY ARE AT THIS YEAR AT THIS TIME, OVER THE SCHOOL YEARS THEN HAS IT BEEN DECLINING? YES, YES.
WE CAN SEE THAT FROM HEALTHY USE SURVEY DATA AND REFERRALS.
ALONG WITH THAT. THEN YOU MENTIONED THE RELATIONSHIPS.
THE OTHER QUESTION I HAD WAS THEN IN REGARDS TO LIKE WHAT DO WE NEED? SO LET ME ASK IT THIS WAY THEN ARE THERE ENOUGH PIS TO PROVIDE THE GROUPS THAT WE NEED TO KEEP THE GROUP SIZES AS SMALL AS WE'D LIKE TO HAVE THEM? SO THERE'S LIKE, SO ARE THERE GROUPS TOO BIG? WELL, WE DO WE DO PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION AND IT DEPENDS ON THE SCHOOLS.
BUT OUR ALES HAVE BEEN REACHING OUT TO ME AND LIKE WE WANT, WE WANT THESE SERVICES AS WELL.
I MEAN, WE'RE GOING TO DO THE BEST WE CAN, BUT WE WOULD LOVE OKAY. SO WHAT ABOUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOLS? LET'S JUST FOCUS AT BATTLE GROUND AND PRAIRIE HIGH.
WE HAVE PLENTY OF PIS AND THE GROUPS, PLENTY OF GROUPS.
AND THE GROUPS ARE SMALL ENOUGH TO, TO TO HANDLE THE LOAD THAT WE HAVE.
WE PROVIDE THE SERVICES, BUT WE BORROW PEOPLE FROM OTHER SCHOOLS.
WELL, WE DID SAY IT WAS 0.5 AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, SO THAT'S HALF A PERSON.
IT'S A FULL PERSON, A HALF TOP AND A BOTTOM.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, BUT THERE'S A HALF A PERSON OVER THERE.
SO I'D LIKE TO ASK JULIA, DO YOU THINK THIS IS A NEED IN THE ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS? I FEEL LIKE FOR RIVER HOMELINK IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT BECAUSE PARENTS ARE EVERYWHERE.
SO PARENTS ARE ALMOST LIKE THIS BUILT IN PI SYSTEM BECAUSE, LIKE, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING AT RIVER HOMELINK THERE ARE 20 CLASSROOMS, LIKE YOU'RE SHARING A BATHROOM WITH A KINDERGARTNER AND STUFF LIKE THAT.
BUT I DO THINK IT'S NECESSARY.
NO MATTER WHAT SCHOOL YOU'RE AT, I THINK THAT'S DEFINITELY TRUE.
I THINK ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS ARE LIKE, IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE BETWEEN WHICH SCHOOLS COULDN'T HAVE A PI, I THINK ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS ARE A LITTLE BIT LESS LIKELY TO NEED THEM AS MUCH AS A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL, JUST BECAUSE OF THE WAY IT'S SET UP.
KIDS ARE THERE LESS THERE ARE ALREADY MORE BUILT IN INTERVENTIONS BECAUSE MOST MOST ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS HAVE MORE SUPPORTS FROM LIKE STUDENT TO STAFF, JUST FROM LIKE IN, IN COMPARISON TO COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOLS.
SO THAT'S WHAT I THINK. I THINK IT'S STILL IMPORTANT.
MOST STUDENTS GO THERE ONCE A WEEK, SO YOU'RE NOT SEEING YOUR STUDENTS VERY OFTEN.
THERE'S NOT AS MUCH OF A PRESSING NEED FOR INTERVENTION, EVEN THOUGH THERE STILL IS A NEED, AND IT'S JUST NOT AS IT IT SHOWS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY AT ALTERNATIVE SCHOOLS THAN AT COMPREHENSIVE.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT NONE OF THESE POSITIONS ARE FUNDED BY THE STATE.
ALL OF THESE POSITIONS ARE FUNDED BY LEVY AND BY, YOU KNOW, GRANTS AND ALL OF THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.
I DRIVE ALL THE WAY FROM OREGON SO THAT I CAN DO THIS WORK.
THESE POSITIONS WERE ORIGINALLY FUNDED BY THE FIRST AWARE GRANT.
BUT WHEN THAT GRANT SUNSET IN 2019, THEN IT HAD TO MOVE TO THE DISTRICT.
SO THE DISTRICT FUNDS THESE POSITIONS THROUGH LEVY DOLLARS.
AND WE AREN'T ABLE TO BRING THEM UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF THE NEW GRANT, BECAUSE ONE OF THE FEDERAL RULES IS THAT IT HAS WE CAN ONLY USE THAT MONEY ON SOMETHING THAT'S NEW, NOT SOMETHING THAT PREDATED THE GRANT IN THE DISTRICT.
BUT AND WE HAVE ADDED TO IT WHEN WE HAD FUNDS AVAILABLE.
SO AS KARI TALKED ABOUT, WE HAD A LEAD.
AND SO UNFORTUNATELY THAT TOO WENT AWAY.
SO CERTAINLY NOT BECAUSE WE DON'T NOT BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT TO WANT TO DO IT.
CAN I CAN JUST ALSO GIVE A PERSONAL KUDOS TO YOUR POSITIONS BECAUSE THIS TOUCHED OUR FAMILY
[01:15:06]
VERY, VERY, VERY DISTINCTLY.AND THE INDIVIDUAL THAT HELPED OUR FAMILY WAS THERE 100 AND REALLY DID.
I MEAN, IT DIDN'T CHANGE THE CIRCUMSTANCE, BUT IT DID HELP US WALK THROUGH IT.
AND SO AND HELPED MY STUDENT ALSO WALK THROUGH IT.
SO IT'S DEFINITELY, DEFINITELY NEEDED.
AND HOPEFULLY THE COMMUNITY WILL BACK THE LEVY SO THAT WE CAN CONTINUE THIS GREAT WORK AND EVEN DO MORE IF POSSIBLE. SO AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR THE WORK YOU DO.
IT'S IT'S SOMETIMES THANKLESS BECAUSE IT DOESN'T ALWAYS END UP THE WAY WE WISH IT DID.
BUT THE HEART AND SOUL THAT YOU PUT INTO IT, I CAN TELL ALL OF YOU ARE JUST VERY COMMITTED TO TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT A LOT.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT, DEBBIE.
YES. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
THANKS FOR BEING HERE [APPLAUSE]. WELL, I GUESS WE ARE GOING TO CONTINUE A LITTLE BIT MORE DATA FOR YOU.
I HAVE ALLISON AND LACEY HERE TO TALK TO US A BIT ABOUT OUR SBAC SCORES.
YOU DO HAVE SHEETS IN FRONT OF YOU, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE HAVE.
THOSE ARE FOR A DEEPER DIVE LATER.
YOU WON'T NEED THEM NECESSARILY, FOR WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO COVER NOW.
GOOD EVENING. I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOU TO LACEY MARSZALEK.
IF YOU HAVE NOT MET HER BEFORE, SHE IS THE ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT ASSISTANT TO ASSESSMENT.
THERE IS A TONGUE TWISTER FOR YOU.
THIS IS HER THIRD YEAR WORKING WITH OUR DEPARTMENT AND SHE OVERSEES ALL OF STATE TESTING.
SO FIRST WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WAKIDS KIDS.
AND I'LL LET LACEY TELL YOU WHAT THAT IS.
SO IT'S THE WASHINGTON KINDERGARTEN INVENTORY OF DEVELOPING SKILLS.
IT SHOWS STUDENT READINESS AND ALLOWS US TO TRACK TRENDS ACROSS YEARS.
THERE'S SIX DOMAINS TESTED, MOSTLY OBSERVATIONAL.
TEACHERS GO THROUGH A SPECIFIC TRAINING AND SOME EVEN PARTICIPATE IN INTERRATER RELIABILITY TESTING.
A 2022 STUDY FOUND THAT AFTER ADJUSTING FOR OTHER VARIABLES, THE ODDS OF MEETING THE THIRD GRADE ELA STANDARDS WAS 62% HIGHER FOR STUDENTS WHO WERE KINDERGARTEN READY ON WAKIDS LITERACY.
OKAY. AS WE MOVE UP, WE GO INTO KINDERGARTEN.
AND WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER TEST THAT WE GIVE, WHICH IS CALLED ELSA.
AND THIS IS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MOVIE FROZEN.
IT STANDS FOR EARLY LITERACY SKILLS ASSESSMENT, AND IT COVERS MULTIPLE SKILLS.
AND SO WE TEST THEM IN PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS, RHYMING, BLENDING, SEGMENTING SOUNDING SOUND ADDITION AND DELETION, AND THEN LETTER NAMES AND SOUNDS AND THE LETTER NAMES AND SOUNDS IS WHAT WE REPORT TO OSPI.
SO YOU CAN SEE ON THE GRAPH THAT WE HAVE HERE THAT IN THE FALL OF LAST YEAR WE HAD 800 AND WELL, LET'S SEE, WE HAD 800, 766 STUDENTS WHO TESTED IN THE FALL.
WE HAD 834 STUDENTS THAT WERE TESTED THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
AND THE REASON THAT NUMBER IS DECREASING OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR IS BECAUSE ONCE A STUDENT SHOWS THAT THEY ARE PROFICIENT IN SOMETHING IN KINDERGARTEN WITH THE LETTER SOUNDS, WE ARE NOT RETESTING THOSE STUDENTS.
SO WE ARE TESTING FEWER STUDENTS IN THE WINTER, YOU WOULD CERTAINLY HOPE.
AND SO THAT'S SHOWING OUR DATA IS SHOWING THERE THAT WE HAVE ABOUT 80% OF OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE PROFICIENT IN KINDERGARTEN WITH THEIR LETTER SOUNDS AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND ABOUT 20% THAT WERE BELOW PROFICIENCY, WHICH TRACKS WITH THE WASHINGTON KINDERGARTEN INVENTORY OF DEVELOPING SKILLS.
OH, WE CHANGED OUR LITTLE ORDER HERE.
OKAY. SO THEN WE MOVE INTO THE SMARTER BALANCED TESTING, WHICH IS OUR THIRD GRADE AND BEYOND.
[01:20:07]
AND SO WE PUT OUR DATA ALL TOGETHER ON ONE SLIDE FOR YOU.SO THAT'S SHOWING OUR I-READY TESTING AND OUR SMARTER BALANCED TESTING.
THAT'S JUST A LINK TO THIS COHORT DATA THAT WE ARE NOT GOING TO GO IN.
I WANTED YOU TO HAVE THIS SO THAT YOU CAN DIG INTO IT AND LOOK AT IT.
BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO SPEND THE TIME ON IT THIS EVENING.
AND THEN YOU CAN LOOK BY GRADE LEVEL AT OUR I-READY TESTING AND OUR SMARTER BALANCED SCORES.
AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THOSE TWO TRACK REALLY WELL.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I-READY IS REALLY TOUTED FOR IS ITS ACCURACY BETWEEN THE THE PERCENT PASSING IN THE I-READY TESTING AND THEN THE CORRELATION TO SMARTER BALANCED TESTING.
SO IF YOU LOOK AT OUR THIRD GRADERS, WE HAD 44% OF OUR STUDENTS PASSING THE I-READY READING TEST AND 46% PASSING THE SMARTER BALANCED ELA TEST, SO PRETTY CLOSE.
AND RELATIVELY CLOSE ON ALL OF THOSE EIGHTH GRADE THINGS GET A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.
WE DO NOT REQUIRE THAT OUR TEACHERS GIVE EIGHTH GRADERS THE I-READY TESTING IN THE SPRING.
AND SO THAT DATA IS A LITTLE BIT SKEWED.
BUT FOR THE MOST PART, THE REST OF THAT IS PRETTY CLOSE.
SO WE HAD WE GAVE OVER 10,000 TESTS THROUGH SMARTER BALANCE THIS LAST YEAR, AND WE HAD 137 TEST INCIDENTS, WHICH IS LESS THAN 1% OF OUR INCIDENTS.
BUT MOST OF THEM ARE THINGS THAT ARE RELATED TO CELL PHONES, WATCHES, SO SMART WATCHES AND EARBUDS.
SO STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE THOSE ON THEIR PERSON DURING TESTING.
AND THESE TWO ARE FOR ELA 10TH GRADERS.
THESE CHARTS COVER THE MATH SCORES IN COMPARISON TO LOCAL DISTRICTS AND COMPARABLE DISTRICTS.
SIMILARITIES ACROSS BOTH CHARTS.
NEXT SLIDE. SO THIS IS TO KIND OF PRESENT SOME NEW DATA FROM THE STATE FOR YOU.
THIS IS THE ONE PAGER THAT THE STATE PUTS OUT ABOUT THE REPORT CARDS THAT COME OUT EACH YEAR.
SO OSPI HAS DECIDED TO ADJUST HOW THEY PRESENT THE PUBLIC FACING DATA BEGINNING THIS YEAR.
THE STATE TESTS ARE NOT A PASS FAIL ASSESSMENT, AND THE STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE COLLEGE READINESS PROFICIENCY STANDARD ARE NOT NECESSARILY BELOW GRADE LEVEL IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE. THE SPECIFIC DATA IS I GUESS THE THIRD ROW DOWN.
SO THE DATA ON THE RIGHT THAT SHE'S POINTING TO THERE.
SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE USED TO SEEING.
AND THEN THE THE THREE CIRCLES ON THE LEFT THAT SAYS FOUNDATIONAL GRADE LEVEL KNOWLEDGE.
THAT IS NOW INCLUDING STUDENTS WITH LEVEL TWO, LEVEL THREE AND LEVEL FOUR SCORES.
AND SO THIS THE DATA ON THE LEFT INCLUDES WHAT YOU MIGHT CALL OUR C STUDENTS.
THEY'RE NOT ILLITERATE, BUT THEY'RE NOT GOING TO PASS THE COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS. AND SO THIS IS JUST SO YOU'RE AWARE THAT THIS IS HOW OSPI IS GOING TO START PRESENTING OUR STATE ASSESSMENT DATA GOING FORWARD.
AND THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT LEVEL TWO IS PROFICIENT IN ELA AND MATH.
THIS CHART IS ANOTHER NEW WAY THAT OSPI HAS BEEN CHOSEN TO REPRESENT OUR STATE ASSESSMENT DATA.
AND TO START A LITTLE INFORMATION ABOUT WHO IS NOT INCLUDED.
AND FOR 10TH GRADERS, IT'S GOING TO SHOW THEIR 8TH TO 10TH GRADE SCORES.
[01:25:01]
AND SO THE TOP BLUE ONE REPRESENTS STUDENTS THAT SCORED A LEVEL THREE OR A LEVEL FOUR IN BOTH YEARS, SO THAT'S OUR COLLEGE PROFICIENCY. AND THEN THE YELLOW MEANS THAT THEY MOVED FROM A LEVEL ONE OR LEVEL TWO NOT PROFICIENT INTO A LEVEL THREE OR LEVEL FOUR.SO THEY ARE ACCELERATED IN THEIR LEARNING OVER THOSE TWO YEARS.
SO THEY MOVED FROM LIKE A LOW LEVEL TWO TO A HIGH LEVEL TWO AND SO ON AND SO FORTH.
AND THEN IN ORANGE, IT'S THE SAME LEVEL AS PREVIOUS YEARS.
SO A ONE STATE, A ONE, A TWO STATE A TWO.
THAT STATE A THREE, IT'S JUST ONES AND TWOS.
AND THEN THE BOTTOM BLUE IS GOING TO COVER STUDENTS THAT REGRESSED OR WENT DOWN PERFORMANCE LEVELS.
BUT IT STILL ONLY INCLUDES LEVEL ONE AND LEVEL TWO.
AND THEN NOW WE'RE KIND OF DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOL, WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT COLLEGE BOARD INFORMATION.
THIS IS JUST TO SHOW OUR PARTICIPATION RATES IN SAT, AP COURSES AND PSAT RELATED ASSESSMENTS.
SO YOU CAN SEE THAT WE'VE HAD AN INCREASE ACROSS THE BOARD WITH THOSE COURSES AND TESTS.
AND WHEN IT COMES TO SAT SCORES FOR A CLASS OF 2024.
OUR AVERAGE TOTAL SCORE WAS 1131.
AND OUR STUDENTS ON AVERAGE, YOU CAN SEE WE SCORE HIGHER THAN THE STATE AND THE NATIONAL AVERAGES.
AND THEN THE PSAT 10TH, 11TH AND 12TH GRADERS CAN TAKE THE PSAT, BUT ONLY THE 11TH GRADERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS ASSOCIATED WITH IT.
SO THAT'S WHO THIS COUNTS HERE.
AND AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SCORING HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE.
AND THIS IS JUST ABOUT AP COURSES.
THE GRAY COLUMN IS THE NUMBER OF OF EXAM TAKERS.
SO THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING EXAMS. THE BLUE IS THE NUMBER OF EXAMS GIVEN.
SO THIS SHOWS THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE TAKING MORE THAN ONE EXAM.
AND THE BLACK IS THE NUMBER OF EXAMS THAT RESULTED IN A SCORE OF THREE OR HIGHER, AND THEN THE GOLD PERCENTAGE OF THE UP ABOVE IS THE REPRESENTS THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS THAT ARE GETTING A PASSING EXAM SCORE IN AP COURSES.
OKAY, SO WE WANTED TO CALL OUT SOME OF OUR AWARDS.
SO WE HAVE SOMETHING CALLED CAPSTONE RECIPIENTS.
AND CAPSTONE ARE THE STUDENTS WHO SCORED THREE OR HIGHER IN AP SEMINAR AND THREE OR HIGHER IN AP RESEARCH AND SCORED THREE OR HIGHER ON FOUR ADDITIONAL AP EXAMS OF THEIR CHOICE.
SO WE HAD THESE FIVE STUDENTS WHO WERE AWARD WINNERS FOR MEETING THIS CRITERIA.
SO WE ALSO HAD THREE STUDENTS WHO QUALIFIED FOR AP SEMINAR AND RESEARCH CERTIFICATE, AND THAT'S ANOTHER AWARD THAT NOW I'M NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO PULL IT UP AT THE TOP OF MY HEAD REAL QUICK.
SO THEY ARE ELLA GALLOWAY, CHASE HARSHMAN, AND ELIZABETH MCLEAR.
AND THEN WE HAD ONE SCHOOL WHICH IS CAM ACADEMY, WHO MADE HONOR ROLL.
AND SO WHAT THAT MEANS IS THAT THEY HAVE A COLLEGE CULTURE, WHICH IS 40% OR MORE OF THEIR GRADUATING COHORT TAKING AT LEAST ONE AP EXAM AND 25% OR MORE OF THEIR GRADUATING COHORT GETTING A THREE OR HIGHER.
AND WITH AT LEAST ONE AP EXAM AND 2% OR MORE OF THEIR GRADUATING COHORT TAKING FIVE OR MORE AP EXAMS DURING THE HIGH SCHOOL CAREER. SO THERE'S A LOT OF AP TESTING THAT HAPPENS AS PART OF THE CAM CULTURE.
AND THEY RECEIVED THIS HONOR ROLL CERTIFICATE.
THAT'S COOL. SO WE ALSO ARE GOING TO BE ADDING NEW THIS NEXT YEAR, THE PSAT 8/9, WHICH MEANS 8TH GRADERS AND 9TH GRADERS WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE THE PSAT.
[01:30:02]
IT, AND LEARN WHAT THAT'S LIKE, AND LEARN HOW TO DO BETTER ON IT IN THE FUTURE.OKAY, SO THEN WE WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT GRADUATION RATES.
SO THIS IS FOR THE CLASS OF 2024.
YOU CAN SEE THAT THERE ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT PATHWAYS FOR STUDENTS TO MEET.
SO THIS GRAPH SHOWS YOU SMARTER BALANCED.
SO THERE ARE SOME STUDENTS WHO MET BY TAKING BOTH OF THOSE OR EITHER OF THOSE.
AND THEN THERE IS A LARGE GROUP OF STUDENTS THAT MEET THEIR GRADUATION PATHWAY JUST BY CTE.
AND THEN WE HAVE UP TOWARD THE TOP OUR DUAL CREDIT, OUR APS, SATS, ACTS AND ASVAB TESTS.
ALL OF THOSE ARE THEIR OWN PATHWAYS.
SO IF A STUDENT WERE TO PASS THOSE EXAMS, IT QUALIFIES THEM FOR GRADUATION.
AND THEN WE HAVE THE CHUNK THERE THAT DID NOT MEET, AND THAT'S ABOUT 19%.
BUT THEN WE HAD SOME THAT MET IT IN TWO WAYS, THREE WAYS, FOUR WAYS, AND FIVE WAYS.
THANK YOU. IF YOU CAN HELP ME OVER THERE.
YES, WE HAD ABOUT ONE MORE. THERE WE GO.
81% OF OUR STUDENTS MET A GRADUATION PATHWAY.
SO IF YOU LOOK AT OUR GRADUATION RATE, OUR GRADUATION RATE IS 81.6%.
SOME OF OUR STUDENTS NEED LONGER THAN FOUR YEARS IN ORDER TO GET ALL OF THEIR CREDITS.
SO WE HAVE A FOUR YEAR RATE, A FIVE YEAR RATE, A SIX YEAR RATE, AND A SEVEN YEAR RATE.
AND IF YOU LOOK AT THAT DIAGONALLY, YOU CAN SEE THAT PARTICULAR CLASS FROM 1920, THEIR GRADUATION RATE WENT FROM 75.2% UP TO 83.6%. THEN IF YOU FOLLOW THAT DOWN AND YOU LOOK AT 20, 23, 24, YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR GRADUATION RATE IS STARTING HIGHER THAN IT DID BACK IN 20 1920.
SO OUR SEVEN YEAR GRADUATION RATE, BY THE TIME WE FINISH THAT CHART, BY THE TIME STUDENTS AGE OUT, SHOULD BE HIGHER THAN IT HAS BEEN IN THE PAST. SO AND THERE WE HAVE OUR PRESENTATION.
SO ANY QUESTIONS? I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS, BUT I'M JUST GOING TO ASK ONE TO MAKE SURE IT'S CLARIFIED IN MY OWN BRAIN.
DO I HAVE THIS RIGHT? WITH REGARD TO THE SBA, THE STATE NOW HAS THROWN OUT A CAVEAT WHERE JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE AT LEVEL TWO DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU'RE NOT AT GRADE LEVEL. DO I HAVE THAT CORRECT? LEVEL TWO DOES NOT MEAN NECESSARILY THAT YOU'RE NOT AT GRADE LEVEL ACCORDING TO THE SBA, CORRECT.
OKAY. SO LEVEL TWO MEANS THAT YOU ARE NOT PROFICIENT, BUT YOU DO HAVE BASIC SKILLS.
SO YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY ILLITERATE.
SO YOU MIGHT BE AT GRADE LEVEL ACCORDING TO WHAT THEY'RE TRYING TO SAY.
THEY'RE TRYING TO INFER THAT THAT MIGHT BE GRADE LEVEL.
IT'S THE FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS FOR THAT GRADE LEVEL.
IT'S THE VERY, VERY FLOOR ENTRY LEVEL INFORMATION FOR THAT GRADE LEVEL.
BUT THE TEST IS GIVEN AT THE END OF THEIR 10TH GRADE YEAR.
SO LEVEL TWO MIGHT BE GRADE LEVEL.
YES. THAT COULD, THAT COULD BE.
BUT IT IS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE PROFICIENT IN ELA OR MATH.
SO IF THAT STUDENT WAS TO THEN TAKE THE COLLEGE ENTRY EXAMS, THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT PASS, RIGHT? SURE. THANK YOU.
I WAS CURIOUS ON THE CAPSTONE YOU MENTIONED IT'S ONLY AVAILABLE AT ONE SCHOOL OR BOTH PROGRAMS. COULD YOU TALK ABOUT WHY THAT IS AND IF THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET IT AT ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS? YEAH. SO BECAUSE BATTLE GROUND HAS ALWAYS CHOSEN TO OFFER THOSE COURSES.
AND SO WHEN THERE WAS A COURSE PROPOSAL TO PUT SEMINAR AND RESEARCH INTO PLACE, THOSE WERE APPROVED.
[01:35:02]
ALL HIGH SCHOOLS.SO THERE IS THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO PUT IT IN PLACE IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO.
AND I WOULD JUST ADD TO THAT, THAT WHAT DRIVES AP COURSES THAT ARE OFFERED IS WHEN STUDENTS FORECAST, SO ENOUGH STUDENTS HAVE TO FORECAST FOR THAT COURSE IN ORDER TO RUN IT.
AND TYPICALLY THAT'S 18 STUDENTS IN ORDER TO RUN A COURSE.
SO IF 18 STUDENTS DON'T CHOOSE THAT, THEN WE CAN'T OFFER IT FOR THE WHOLE THE WHOLE SCHOOL.
AND THAT'S WHERE THAT PSAT 8/9 PLAYS IN.
IF WE SEE THAT THERE'S A GROUP OF STUDENTS COMING THROUGH, SAY, AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL THAT WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE OR THAT WE SEE THAT WOULD QUALIFY FOR THAT OR HAVE THE APTITUDE FOR THAT, WE CAN SHARE THAT INFORMATION WITH THE SCHOOL AND SAY, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER PUTTING THIS COURSE IN PLACE.
NOW, THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
WHEN YOU SAY THE STUDENTS KNOW ABOUT THIS, LIKE HOW DO THEY KNOW ABOUT IT? AND I GUESS THE REASON WHY I'M ASKING IS BECAUSE IF I'M FORECASTING AND I DON'T KNOW, THIS IS AN OPTION AS A STUDENT, HOW DO I GATHER 17 OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS TO DO THIS WITH ME? RIGHT. SO THAT IT CAN BE A PART OF IT.
BECAUSE I JUST DON'T THINK I DON'T THINK STUDENTS KNOW WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW.
RIGHT. IF THEY DON'T KNOW, THIS IS AN OPTION.
IF THEY DON'T KNOW THIS FULL PACKAGE EXISTS THAT THEY COULD ELEVATE TO THIS LEVEL.
I WOULD GUESS AT THIS POINT, IF IT'S BEEN IN PLACE AT BATTLE GROUND FOR A WHILE.
IT'S ADVERTISED RIGHT WHERE IT MAY NOT BE GETTING ADVERTISED AT ONE OF OUR OTHER SCHOOLS BECAUSE IT'S NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE AND WE HAVEN'T DONE THE TRAINING.
SO HOW ARE WE MAKING SURE ALL STUDENTS HAVE EQUAL ACCESS.
SO THAT'S THAT'S WHY I WANTED TO BRING ABOUT.
SO I DO ALL OF THE THE PSAT TESTING AND THE ESSAY.
I ADMINISTER THOSE TESTS TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AT THE DISTRICT ON SATURDAYS.
AND SO THAT'S WHY WHEN I FOUND OUT ABOUT PSAT 8/9, I WANTED TO OFFER IT AT OUR DISTRICT SO THAT WHEN THOSE I'M GOING TO PUSH IT AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, HOPEFULLY SO THAT EIGHTH GRADERS CAN TAKE THAT, BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO BE FORECASTING INTO HIGH SCHOOL.
SO THEY'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT TEST.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE AN APTITUDE TEST WHERE IT'S GOING TO TELL THEM YOU'RE GOING TO BE GOOD AT SEMINAR.
AND SO IF WE HAVE ENOUGH AND I WILL BE ABLE TO SEE ALL THOSE SCORES.
AND SO ALLISON AND OF COURSE WE'LL SHARE, WE CAN SHARE THE RESULTS.
AND SO THAT WILL HELP US BETTER FORECAST.
SO IF WE'VE GOT A BUNCH OF KIDS THAT ARE COMING THROUGH THAT THEY KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO BE GOOD AT SEMINAR BASED ON THEIR PSAT SCORES, WE KNOW THAT WE MIGHT HAVE 18 STUDENTS THAT ARE GOING INTO PRAIRIE, AND THEN WE CAN PLAN FOR THEM TO ARRIVE.
I THINK THE OTHER THING THAT IS IMPORTANT IS THE NEW, RELATIVELY NEW LEGISLATION THAT TELLS THAT A STUDENT WILL TAKE THE NEXT HIGHEST COURSE BASED ON YOUR SMARTER BALANCED SCORES.
AND SO IF WE'RE LOOKING AT THE SMARTER BALANCED SCORES AND SEE THAT WE HAVE A GROUP COMING THROUGH THAT WOULD CREATE A CLASS BIG ENOUGH TO DO THAT, WE CAN TALK WITH PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL AND SAY, THIS MIGHT BE SOMETHING THAT YOU'D BE INTERESTED IN DOING BASED ON THE SMARTER BALANCED SCORES THAT YOU'RE SEEING FROM YOUR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS.
I MEAN, WE WOULD LOOK AT OUR ALES AS WELL.
SURE, WE DON'T HAVE AS MANY AP CLASSES THROUGH ALES CURRENTLY.
WE HAVE A COUPLE AT RIVER HOMELINK.
BUT SOME OF YOU AND ONLINE GPA DO NOT OFFER AP COURSES, BUT CAM.
AND I THINK PART OF THE STRUGGLE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT AP VERSUS INTERVENTION COURSES, AS YOU KNOW, WE WE GET OUR FUNDING BASED ON ENROLLMENT AND THEN WE GET FUNDING FOR PROTOTYPICAL AMOUNTS OF TEACHERS.
WHEN WE FORECAST AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, MOST OF OUR CLASSES ARE FORECASTED FOR 30 STUDENTS.
SO IN THE WHOLE SCHEME OF THINGS, WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE AMOUNT OF FUNDING THAT YOU HAVE THROUGH BASIC EDUCATION AND ANYTHING ABOVE IT IN ORDER TO OFFER SOME OF THOSE AP COURSES MIGHT COME THROUGH LEVY DOLLARS OR OTHER THINGS.
AND SO IT'S A BALANCING ACT, WHAT WE CAN OFFER ONE YEAR VERSUS ANOTHER.
SOMETIMES OUR SCHOOLS WILL OFFER THEM ON ROTATING YEARS.
[01:40:01]
CAM SAME THING.AGAIN, TO JENNY'S POINT EARLIER, WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR SCHOOLS? MORE FUNDING? IT'S BECAUSE WE WANT TO OFFER MORE PROGRAMS TO OUR STUDENTS AND MORE CONSISTENT OFFERINGS TO ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.
BUT AT THE AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT SOMETIMES IS DRIVEN BY THE BOTTOM DOLLAR AND WHAT WHAT MORE STUDENTS WANT THAN OTHERS OR MORE STUDENTS NEED IN ORDER TO MEET GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS.
SO IT'S A BALANCING ACT, AND THEY DO A NICE JOB USING THE DATA TO HELP DETERMINE WHAT THAT IS.
SO BUT WHAT I WILL SAY AND I'M WE'RE PROUD OF THIS, IS THAT ONE OF OUR GOALS ON OUR STRATEGIC PLAN SAYS THAT WE'RE GOING TO INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO COMPLETE AP ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASSES.
AND IN 2022, WE HAD 296 STUDENTS WHO TOOK AP CLASSES IN 2023 WE RAISED THAT NUMBER TO 517, AND IN 2024 WE RAISED THAT NUMBER TO 536.
SO WE ARE MEETING OUR OBJECTIVE OF CONTINUING TO RAISE THOSE NUMBERS.
WE HAVE A A GOAL ON OUR ON OUR STRATEGIC PLAN OF INCREASING FOUR YEAR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATES.
AND OUR GRADUATION RATES, WHILE SMALL, HAVE CONTINUED TO CLIMB.
AND IF WE LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS WE CAN SEE THAT YOU KNOW, THAT IT WAS YEAH THERE YOU GO.
FOUR YEAR GRADUATION RATE WAS 79.2, 78.4, AND NOW WE ARE AT 81.6.
SO AGAIN, WE CONTINUE TO MEET SOME OF OUR OBJECTIVES FOR OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.
THANK YOU FOR CONNECTING THOSE DOTS.
IT'S HELPFUL. THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU SO MUCH.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
AND THAT'S IT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING.
THAT'S A LOT TO FOLLOW UP ON, BUT YES.
AND SO I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW ON THAT.
AND WE ARE WORKING ON OUR END OF YEAR CLOSE STILL WRAPPING THAT UP.
AND IN NOVEMBER WE DO A FULL REPORT ON OUR PRIOR YEARS, FINANCIALS, THE ACTUALS WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THAT HAS BEEN FINALIZED FOR OUR REPORT.
THAT'S ALL. AND AS FAR AS I KNOW I THINK THAT WE ARE ONE OF THE FEW SCHOOL ONLY SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON THAT HAD INCREASED ENROLLMENT THIS YEAR.
WOW. SO AGAIN, POSITIVE FOR US.
GOT RID OF THE GREEN AND NOW IT'S GRAY.
OUR CENTRAL OPERATIONS BUILDING WE BROKE GROUND AND PROCEEDING QUITE WELL.
THERE'S BEEN VERY FEW SURPRISES.
I'M GLAD, BECAUSE THAT SITS ON ON TOP OF THE OLD CENTRAL BUILDING, WHICH WAS DEMOLISHED.
JUST STARTING TO WORK ON THAT AT THE AT THE TWO HIGH SCHOOLS, WE'LL BE WORKING WITH JEAN FRITZ, WHO WORKS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, HE'S APPARENTLY HE'S DONE QUITE A FEW OF THESE DESIGNS, AND I'M GLAD HE HAS BECAUSE I HAVEN'T DONE THAT MANY KITCHEN DESIGNS, SO HE'LL BE HELPING US OUT THERE.
THOSE TWO BUILDINGS WILL BE WITHIN CLOSE PROXIMITY.
BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY.
THAT WILL BE OPEN NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE BUSY ALREADY.
OH, YEAH. THANK YOU, KEVIN AND AMANDA.
GOOD EVENING. I JUST WANTED TO MENTION A COUPLE OF UPCOMING EVENTS.
COULD WE ACTUALLY PULL UP THE SLIDES, PLEASE? THANK YOU.
[01:46:10]
THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, THERE WE GO.NEXT MONDAY, WE HAVE THE COLLEGE AND CAREER FAIR.
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES FROM ALL OVER THE DISTRICT, OR EVEN FROM OTHER DISTRICTS, TO COME AND LEARN ABOUT APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS, TRADE SCHOOLS, MILITARY AND COLLEGES.
THIS EVENT ALSO INCLUDES A FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP, SO IT SHOULD BE A LOT OF REALLY GOOD INFORMATION.
THEN WE HAVE A COUPLE MORE SPORTS BROADCASTS COMING DOWN THE PIPELINE VOLLEYBALL AND FOOTBALL GAMES.
AND JASON FOSTER AND HIS STUDENTS ARE WORKING REALLY HARD TO BRING THOSE TO THE COMMUNITY.
THANK YOU. AND THAT'S IT FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.
[7. Citizens' Comments]

THEY WILL LISTEN AND GIVE DIRECTION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IF ACTION IS DEEMED NECESSARY.
WE DO HAVE A TIMER ON THE SCREENS, AND WE DO HAVE ITZEL WHO WILL BE WAVING SIGNS WHEN YOU'VE GOT 30S LEFT AND WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP. IT IT IS HARD TO MAKE EYE CONTACT, SO IF, YOU KNOW, JUST CHECK IN, LOOK UP A LITTLE BIT AS YOU'RE READING NOW AND THEN.
IF YOU COULD COME TO THE BOARD, TO THE PODIUM, AND IF I SAID YOUR NAME WRONG, I APOLOGIZE.
AND I HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT BOOKS THAT ARE GOING TO BE HERE.
SECTION 1466 A OF TITLE 18, UNITED STATES CODE MAKES IT ILLEGAL FOR ANY PERSON TO KNOWINGLY PRODUCE, DISTRIBUTE, RECEIVE, OR POSSESS THE INTENT TO TRANSFER OR DISTRIBUTE VISUAL REPRESENTATIONS SUCH AS DRAWINGS, CARTOONS, OR PAINTINGS THAT APPEAR TO DEPICT MINORS ENGAGED IN SEXUALLY EXPLICIT CONDUCT AND ARE DEEMED OBSCENE.
THE MATTER INVOLVING MINORS DEEMED OBSCENE, DEPICTS THE IMAGE THAT APPEARS THAT A MINOR IS ENGAGED IN GRAPHIC BESTIALITY, SADISTIC OR MASOCHISTIC ABUSE OR SEXUAL INTERCOURSE.
IF THESE IMAGES LACK SERIOUS LITERARY, ARTISTIC, POLITICAL OR SCIENTIFIC VALUE, A FIRST TIME OFFENDER CONVICTED UNDER THE STATUTE OF FACES FINES AND AT LEAST FIVE YEARS TO A MAXIMUM OF 20 YEARS IN PRISON.
[01:50:06]
LET THAT SINK IN.THAT'S A FINE AND FIVE YEARS TO A MAXIMUM OF 20 YEARS IN PRISON.
THESE BOOKS ARE ABOUT GROOMING.
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE THAT YOU CONSIDER HAVING SEX APPROPRIATE? TECHNICALLY, YOU'RE NOT CONSIDERED AN ADULT UNTIL YOU'RE 18, BUT ONE SHOULD NOT CONSIDER HAVING SEX UNTIL THEY WERE CAPABLE OF TAKING ON THE CONSEQUENCES OF HAVING SEX, SUCH AS UNWANTED PREGNANCY, GETTING SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE, OR THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSEQUENCES THAT MAY BE LONG TERM, SUCH AS TRUST ISSUES. NOT MANY 18 YEAR OLD'S CAN SUPPORT THEMSELVES, LET ALONE RAISING A CHILD.
ADOLESCENTS HAVING CHILDREN ARE DEFINITELY NOT READY TO TAKE ON THE CONSEQUENCES.
WE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGING ABSTINENCE AND NOT PROMOTING SEX.
WE SHOULDN'T BE HANGING THE LGBTQ FLAG IN OUR SCHOOLS OR GOVERNMENT PROPERTY EITHER.
IT IS A IT IS A DISPLAY OF BEING PROUD OF HAVING SEX.
I DON'T CARE IF YOU'RE GAY OR STRAIGHT.
YOU SHOULDN'T BE HANGING A FLAG THAT PROMOTES PRIDE IN HAVING SEX.
AND IF YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO IMPROVE IN GRADES, STOP THE FLUORIDATION.
YOU'VE GOT ALL THE PAPERS THAT IT LOWERS IQS.
AND I CAN IMAGINE THE TEACHERS HERE WOULD BE FURIOUS THAT THEY SHOULD BE DOWN AT THE CITY HALL.
AND YOU KNOW THAT IT LOWERS IQS.
IT CAUSES CRIPPLING BONE DISEASES.
THERE'S ALL KINDS OF BAD STUFF THAT IT DOES.
AND YOU'VE GOT ALL OF THE EVIDENCE.
AND I'M PUTTING MORE ON TONIGHT.
THE MAIN THING IS HOPEFULLY WE'LL GET SOME TOXIC TORT CASES GOING.
WOULDN'T THAT BE NICE? THIS WOULD BE REALLY SOMETHING.
BECAUSE IF EVERYBODY TOOK THEIR BLOOD TEST, DO YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S ACTUALLY THERE'S OVER 30 DRUGS THAT HAVE FLUORIDE IN IT? AND I'VE GOT THE NEW LIST, WHICH I'M GIVING YOU TONIGHT OF ALL THESE DRUGS.
SO ANYBODY THAT TAKES THESE NEW APPROVED BY THE FDA, IF YOU'RE TAKING A FLUORIDATED DRUG AND YOU'RE DRINKING WATER THAT'S GOT FLUORIDE IN IT, AND THE PFOAS YOU'RE DRINKING MORE POISON, RIGHT? YOU WANT THESE KIDS TEST GRADES TO IMPROVE.
YOU KNOW, SEEING THOSE CHARTS WERE A JOKE.
THEY ALL WEAR UNIFORMS TO SCHOOL.
THERE'S 200. AND WHETHER IT WAS 2800 PER SCHOOL AND THEY GO UNTIL THEY PASS.
NONE. THAT SHOULD BE YOUR STANDARDS.
THERE SHOULD BE A STANDARD THAT EVERYBODY GOES TO SOME KIND OF COLLEGE OR TRADE SCHOOL OR WHATEVER.
BUT TO SEE THESE GRADES THAT YOU HAD UP.
THEY WANT THEIR DAUGHTERS VIRGINS WHEN THEY'RE MARRIED.
I'M PUTTING A LOT OF STUFF ON PUBLIC RECORD TONIGHT.
AND IF YOU WANT TO KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT DO CHECK THIS ONE OUT.
WHAT I WAS TELLING YOU ABOUT THE HUMAN RIGHTS ON MENTAL HEALTH CCHR.ORG.
[01:55:02]
CHECK IT OUT BECAUSE THIS IS A BIG SCAM TOO.SO THE BEST THING YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
AND I HOPE THESE LADIES HERE DID SOMETHING ABOUT THE TAMPONS AND KOTEX.
IF YOU WANT TO GET TUMORS DOWN THERE, YOU'RE GOING TO GET THEM.
SO PLEASE LEARN CIVICS AND USE YOUR RIGHTS.
GET THEM TO GIVE YOU ORGANIC TAMPONS YOUR TIME IS UP. EUNICE INGERMANSON.
MY NAME IS EUNICE INGERMANSON AND MY PRONOUNS ARE SHE HER.
I'M A COMMUNITY MEMBER AND A VOLUNTEER IN THIS DISTRICT.
THREE DAYS AGO WAS THE NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY.
OCTOBER 11TH HAS BEEN OBSERVED ANNUALLY SINCE 1988 TO SUPPORT LGBTQ INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE TAKING A COURAGEOUS STEP TO COME OUT TO THEIR FAMILY, FRIENDS, COLLEAGUES OR THE WHOLE WORLD AND CHOOSE TO LIVE OPENLY AS LGBTQ PLUS.
HOMOPHOBIA AND TRANSPHOBIA HAVE A FOOTHOLD WHEN PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ANY LGBTQ PLUS INDIVIDUALS PERSONALLY, BECAUSE IT IS EASY TO FEAR THOSE YOU DO NOT KNOW.
UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO THAT WAS THE CASE FOR ME.
I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE TWISTED, SINFUL, REBELLIOUS AGAINST GOD, IDOLATROUS AND COMPLETELY OBSESSED WITH AND ADDICTED TO SEX. AND I BELIEVED IT.
THEN MY CHILD, WHO I KNEW TO BE AN UPSTANDING CITIZEN WITH A PASSION FOR JUSTICE AND COMPASSION FOR THE POOR, CAME OUT FIRST AS GAY, THEN AS TRANSGENDER NON-BINARY.
NOT ONLY DID THAT GIVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY TO RETHINK MY BELIEFS, BUT IT HELPED ME TO SEE QUEER FOLKS AS HUMANS JUST LIKE ME AND MY CHILD.
PEOPLE WHO WANT THE SAME THINGS I DO LOVE FREEDOM, FRIENDSHIP, RESPECT, EQUAL OPPORTUNITY TO WORK AND LEARN AND LIVE AND PEACE TO JUST BE.
IN HONOR OF THE NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY I ALSO WANT TO COME OUT TO YOU.
A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, I REALIZED THAT I AM WHAT PEOPLE CALL ASEXUAL.
IT TURNS OUT THAT I WAS JUST MISSING THE SEXUAL APPETITE THAT MOST HEALTHY YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE.
IF YOU DIDN'T THINK YOU KNEW A QUEER PERSON BEFORE, NOW, YOU DO.
SO WHEN YOUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, STUDENTS, COWORKERS, NEIGHBORS, OR FRIENDS COME OUT TO YOU, I HOPE THAT YOU APPRECIATE THE TRUST THEY PLACE IN YOU AND PROVE TO THEM THAT THEY WERE RIGHT TO TRUST YOU WITH THIS VULNERABLE INFORMATION ABOUT THEMSELVES.
AND I HOPE THAT YOU JOIN ME IN WORKING TO MAKE THIS SCHOOL DISTRICT AND THIS COMMUNITY A SAFE AND THRIVING PLACE FOR THE QUEER STUDENTS WHO MAKE UP 20% OF OUR DISTRICT AND FOR ALL.
AS TODAY IS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY.
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME AND OPPORTUNITY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THE LAND, THAT THIS LAND ON WHICH WE LIVE, WORK AND MEET THIS EVENING WAS INHABITED BY MULTIPLE INDIGENOUS TRIBES, INCLUDING MEMBERS OF THE COWLITZ AND WESTERN KLICKITAT, AND A MIGRATION REGION FOR THE CHINOOK, WHO ARE STILL FIGHTING TO REGAIN FEDERAL RECOGNITION AFTER IT WAS RESCINDED IN 2002.
THE SILETZ, THE GRANDE RONDE, THE CAYUSE, THE UMATILLA, AND THE WALLA WALLA PEOPLES, WHO ARE ALL FAITHFUL STEWARDS OF THIS LAND, ITS WATERS AND ITS INHABITANTS FOR HUNDREDS OF GENERATIONS BEFORE THEIR COLONIZATION AND ASSIMILATION.
THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO LEARN ABOUT THE CARETAKERS OF THIS AND OTHER LANDS AROUND THE GLOBE, INCLUDING WHICH TRIBES INHABITED WHICH AREAS AT NATIVE-LAND.CA. IF YOU CLICK ON THE INTERACTIVE MAP, YOU WILL FIND OUT GENERAL HIGHLIGHTS AND THEN YOU CAN DO A DIG, A DIG, A DEEPER SEARCH INTO EACH TRIBE OR NATION.
[02:00:04]
THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE TOOL THAT I HOPE WILL INSPIRE AND ENGAGE YOU AS A WINDOW OF LEARNING, AS IT HAS FOR ME.MY NAME IS JOSHIAH GREEN AND I JUST THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY.
I JUST WANT TO BEGIN OUR YOUTH ACADEMIC FIELD HAS BEEN SAVAGELY INCAPACITATED.
TRANSFORMATIVE SEL IS NOTHING LESS THAN THOUGHT REFORM OR CNOW IS THE WASHING OF THE BRAIN.
MAO ZEDONG OF THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY DID THE SAME THING IN EDUCATIONAL PRISONS.
AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IDEOLOGY IS TO REMOLD THE MIND AS WELL AS THE FACE OF CHINA.
LIKE ANY AUTHORITARIAN STATE, THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA HAS THE POWER TO ENFORCE ITS EDICTS AND PROTECT THEIR IDEOLOGY BY ABSOLUTE CONTROL OF EDUCATION AND ALL REGULAR MASS MEDIA. THIS IS UNDER THE GUISE OF HELPING CHILDREN DEAL WITH SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL CHALLENGES, AND TO PREPARE THEM FOR THE ECONOMIC FUTURE.
OUR CHILDREN ARE IN THE SCHOOL OF PAULO FREIRE, WHO PUSHED FOR A RADICAL CONSCIENTIZATION CASTLE IS AN ATTEMPT TO CAST ONE'S MIND BACK TO THE FREIREAN DISTORTION THAT ALL EDUCATION IS INHERENTLY POLITICAL.
THESE PEOPLE ARE PLAY ACTING AS TEACHER TEACHERS BUT ARE TRULY CONNIVING ACTIVISTS.
THESE PEOPLE SHOULD FACE JUDICIAL CHARGES FOR OPERATING SAID WORK ON CHILDREN WITH NO LICENSE IN AN UNCONTROLLED NON-THERAPEUTIC SPACES, IN ORDER TO CATECHIZE CHILDREN OF WHAT'S RIGHT AND WRONG ANSWERS TO SOCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY RELEVANT CIRCUMSTANCES.
THIS IS DONE BY BROAD SCREENING THEM, THEN BROADCASTING.
THE GOAL IS TO SYSTEMICALLY INFUSE IT INTO EVERY ASPECT OF CURRICULUM, PROGRAM, AND SUBJECT.
THIS ASPECT OF THE SEL IS A MANIPULATION OF CHILDREN'S EMOTIONS, AS THE WORK IS TO TURN CHILDREN TO THE CULTURE OF BEING FULLY DEPENDENT ON THE STATE, RATHER THAN TO RATHER TO GOD AND THEIR OWN PARENTS, WHICH BY MARXIST RADICALS ARE VIEWED AS THE ENEMY.
THIS THEY CAUSE AN UNJUST DIVIDE, MAKING THE STATE THE SAVIOR WHO OFFERS LIBERATION.
AS I SAID BEFORE ON THE GOD WHO IS YAHWEH.
HE IS PERFECTLY RIGHTEOUS IN HIS TREATMENT OF HIS CREATURES.
GOD WILL, AS HE PROMISED, TO BOTH OFFER REWARDS AND PUNISHMENTS.
GOD WILL BRING JUSTICE WHEN NO PARTIALITY.
HE WILL NEVER OVERLOOK JUSTICE.
DEUTERONOMY 3235 VENGEANCE IS MINE AND RETRIBUTION.
YAHWEH, WHO IS FULL OF ABUNDANT MERCY AND EXCEEDINGLY COMPASSIONATE AND FORGIVING, WILL NEVER DENY HIMSELF OR BE UNFAITHFUL AS HE EXECUTED JUSTICE IN THE GARDEN AND THE PERFECT JUSTICE AT THE CROSS OF CALVARY, WHERE CHRIST FULFILLED ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS AND WAS CRUSHED BY THE FATHER IN A PLACE OF VILE, WRETCHED, OBSCENE, PERVERTED CREATURES.
CHRIST'S PERFECT SACRIFICE AS MAN'S SUBSTITUTE COMPLETELY ASSUAGED THE WRATH OF GOD, WHICH HE VINDICATED HIS HOLY NAME, SO THAT THOSE WHO ARE GIVEN FAITH WILL BE MADE NEW CREATURES AND GIVEN ETERNAL LIFE, [INAUDIBLE] FREE FROM SLAVERY AND CONDEMNATION.
GOOD EVENING BOARD. MY NAME IS RACHEL RIDGWAY.
AS AN RN WHO HAS WORKED BOTH IN PEDIATRICS AND CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTERS FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS, I'M GREATLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SEXUAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM PROVIDED FOR BATTLE GROUND STUDENTS STARTING AT THE AGE OF TEN OR IN FIFTH GRADE.
SEX EDUCATION SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO CHILDREN BY THEIR PARENTS FIRST AND FOREMOST.
PARENTS HAVE BEEN GIVEN AUTHORITY BY GOD TO TRAIN UP THEIR CHILDREN.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN THE AUTHORITY TO TEACH CHILDREN THESE TYPES OF TOPICS.
IT'S WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF MARRIAGE OF ONE MAN TO ONE WOMAN, AND THAT'S IT.
OUTSIDE OF THAT, NO ONE SHOULD BE ENGAGING IN ANY SEXUAL ACTIVITY.
CHILDREN NEED TO BE TAUGHT THAT GOD'S WAY IS THE BEST WAY, AND TO HAVE SEXUAL INTIMACY OUTSIDE OF MARRIAGE IS TO DISOBEY HIM AND LEADS TO UNENDING CONSEQUENCES PHYSICALLY, EMOTIONALLY, AND SPIRITUALLY.
IT'S NOT EFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING STIS, AS ONE OF THE GRAPHS I WAS LOOKING AT ON THE ON THE WEBSITES.
[02:05:09]
FROM 2021 TO 2022, REPORTED CASES OF CHLAMYDIA DECREASED WHILE REPORTED CASES OF GONORRHEA IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SYPHILIS INCREASED.HOWEVER, 2021 DATA SHOULD BE INTERPRETED WITH CAUTION DUE TO PRESUMED COVID 19 PANDEMIC IMPACTS ON STI TESTING, TREATMENT AND CASE REPORTING, WHICH MEANS THERE IS A HUGE IMPACT ON PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN GET REPORTED AT THIS POINT.
SEX EDUCATION AT MINIMUM SHOULD BE AN OPT IN PROGRAM, NOT OPT OUT.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT SHOULD ASSUME THAT PARENTS ARE TEACHING THEIR CHILDREN THESE THINGS.
PARENTS ALONE HAVE THE AUTHORITY TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN THE DETAILS OF SEXUAL HEALTH AND INTIMACY.
STOP OVERSTEPPING THE AUTHORITY GIVEN TO YOU BY THESE PARENTS.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU.
MY NAME IS JENNIFER, AND FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WANT TO SAY I REALLY ENJOYED THE PRESENTATION ON PREVENTION INTERVENTION. THANK YOU LADIES.
I HAD A BROTHER WHO WAS A DRUG ADDICT SINCE 1985.
AND WHEN HE STARTED, THERE WERE NO INTERVENTION PROGRAMS IN SCHOOL.
MY PARENTS REALLY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.
THEY TRIED BUT HE CONTINUED TO BE AN ADDICT UNTIL HE PASSED AWAY A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.
SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS PROGRAM.
AND I HOPE WE GET AN OPPORTUNITY AS COMMUNITY MEMBERS, MAYBE TO ASK SOME QUESTIONS AND GET MORE KNOWLEDGE FROM THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE PUTTING TOGETHER THE PROGRAM.
BUT I WHAT I WANT TO TALK TODAY ABOUT IS CASTLE.
AND THIS MIGHT JUST BE, FOR THE RECORD YOU KNOW, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING WAS CREATED TO PREPARE STUDENTS TO LEARN.
BUT WHEN I GO TO THE CASTLE WEBSITE AND LOOK AT THEIR FIVE PILLARS, ONE THAT REALLY STANDS OUT IS SOCIAL AWARENESS AS A PILLAR OF THEIR SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING.
WELL, THEY SEEM TO EMPHASIZE THAT SOCIAL AWARENESS AWARENESS QUITE A BIT.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THEY HAVE IS TRANSFORMATIVE SEL AND THEY DEFINE THAT AS A FORM OF SEL IMPLEMENTATION TOWARD THE AIM OF CONCENTRATING SEL PRACTICE ON TRANSFORMING INEQUITABLE SETTINGS AND SYSTEMS, AND PROMOTING JUSTICE ORIENTED CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
THESE INCLUDE REFLECTING ON PERSONAL AND SOCIAL IDENTITIES, EXAMINING PREJUDICES AND BIASES, INTERROGATING INTERROGATING SOCIAL NORMS, DISRUPTING AND RESISTING INEQUITIES, AND CO-CONSTRUCTING INEQUITABLE AND JUST SOLUTIONS.
NOW, FOR SOME PEOPLE, THOSE MIGHT BE GREAT VALUES.
AND THEY THEY REALLY LIKE THIS.
THEY WANT THEIR STUDENTS TAUGHT THIS.
BUT WHO IS TEACHING SOCIAL NORMS? WHO IS DECIDING WHAT TYPE OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT THEY SHOULD BE DOING AND WHAT SHOULD THEY BE PROMOTING OR FIGHTING AGAINST? THESE ARE ALL SUBJECTIVE, DEPENDING ON WHO IS TEACHING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING WITH THIS SOCIAL AWARENESS FOCUS.
SO THAT'S NOT PREPARING STUDENTS TO LEARN.
I THINK THAT WE CAN PICK A CURRICULUM FOR OUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND WE DON'T NEED TO INVOLVE CASTLE.
AND SO THAT'S WHAT I'M ASKING.
HELLO, BOARD. MY NAME IS JESSICA COLE.
I'M SUPER EXCITED THAT THE DREAM TEAM HAS TALKED ABOUT SO MUCH TODAY OR SHOWED UP.
[02:10:01]
FROM MY PERSPECTIVE SOME THINGS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR THE DREAM TEAM IS WHEN THE STUDENTS GO INTO NINTH GRADE THEY STILL WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN. THERE ARE SOME THINGS IN THE WORK, AND THAT'S ALL I'M GOING TO SAY, BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO TOTALLY SPEAK OUT OF TURN IF I'M HAPPEN TO BE SPEAKING OUT OF TURN. AND WITH THE ALES, ALSO FROM MY EXPERIENCE YOU KNOW, THEY WERE IT WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD THEM COME IN TO RIVER HOMELINK AND STUDENTS OR PARENTS DO NEED EDUCATION.AND ALWAYS MORE MONEY IS NEEDED FOR PEOPLE AND PROJECTS.
SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT.
AND SPEAKING OF PREVENT TOGETHER IN THE DREAM TEAM, THE DRUG TAKE BACK IS COMING BACK ON THE COMING OUT OR HAPPENING AGAIN ON THE 26TH IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, RIGHT AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
AND YOU JUST DRIVE THROUGH AND DROP OFF.
YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GET OUT OF YOUR CAR.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS.
THAT WRAPS UP CITIZENS COMMENTS FOR THE EVENING.
NEXT ITEM ON OUR AGENDA IS THE CONSENT AGENDA WITH ITEMS A THROUGH I.
[8. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]
AND BEFORE I GET STARTED READING THOSE ITEMS, I WILL BE ABSTAINING FROM THIS VOTE.WE STILL MAINTAIN A QUORUM WITH THE THREE BOARD MEMBERS.
ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2024 SPECIAL MEETING, THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE FROM SEPTEMBER 23RD, 2024 REGULAR MEETING, PERSONNEL REPORTS, STUDENT TRAVEL, COMPLETED PROJECT REQUEST FOR APPROVAL.
APPROVAL OF THE RESOLUTION NUMBER F-24 THE CANCELLATION OF OUTSTANDING WARRANTS.
THE ISLAM FAMILY FOUNDATION DONATION AND SUNBELT STAFFING.
ARE THERE ANY ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT, OR YOU WOULD LIKE REMOVED TO BE VOTED ON AS THEIR OWN ITEM? I JUST WONDERED IF I COULD GET CLARIFICATION UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THIS OUTSTANDING WARRANTS.
IS IT JUST IT'S SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE PAID THAT I GUESS I'M NOT REALLY CLEAR ON IT.
IF SOMEONE COULD CLARIFY, I CAN ANSWER IT OR MICHELLE, IF YOU WANT TO TAKE IT, GO AHEAD.
THESE ARE WARRANTS THAT WE HAVE ISSUED TO VENDORS OR TO PARENTS THAT HAVE GONE UNCASHED.
AND WE DO REACH OUT IN SEVERAL WAYS, TRYING TO REACH THOSE FAMILIES TO REISSUE THOSE WARRANTS.
AND A LOT OF TIMES THEY'VE MOVED AND WE DON'T HAVE A GOOD ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER TO REACH THEM AT.
SO WE ARE REQUIRED BY THE STATE OF WASHINGTON TO TAKE THOSE WARRANTS, THOSE THOSE UNCASHED CHECKS. AND WITH YOUR APPROVAL, WE SEND THEM TO THE STATE OF WASHINGTON AND THE STATE OF WASHINGTON WILL TRACK THOSE, AND THEY WILL KEEP THEM IN THEIR SYSTEM.
SO IF THOSE FAMILIES DO FIND THAT THEY DO HAVE UNCLAIMED PROPERTY, THEN IS WHAT THEY CALL IT, THAT THEY CAN THERE'S A PROCESS FOR THEM COLLECTING THAT MONEY FROM THE STATE.
SO WE WILL SEND THAT THOSE FUNDS TO THE STATE.
SO THOSE ARE THAT LIST THAT YOU HAVE IS A LIST OF ALL THE ONES THAT WE JUST COULDN'T FIND, YOU KNOW, WORK WITH THE FAMILIES, YOU KNOW, TO GET THEM TO, TO REISSUE THOSE, THOSE IT COULD BE A REFUND, A LUNCH REFUND.
SO THERE'S MANY DIFFERENT REASONS WHY WE HAVE THOSE THOSE UNCASHED WARRANTS.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.
WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR I LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.
PRO. ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD?
[02:15:04]
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 3 TO 0.
DID YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE ISLAM FAMILY FOUNDATION DONATION? IS THERE ANYBODY HERE TO SPEAK ABOUT THAT? CINDY IS HERE. CINDY COULD SPEAK TO IT.
COME ON UP, CINDY. HI, EVERYBODY. SO THE ISLAM FOUNDATION HAS BEEN VERY GENEROUS TO CTE OVER PROBABLY AS MANY YEARS AS I'VE BEEN A DIRECTOR, AND INCLUDING THIS YEAR ROB SMITH'S PROGRAM AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS DONATION.
AND HE ALREADY HAS PLANS TO UPDATE SOME OF HIS EQUIPMENT THROUGH PROJECT LEAD THE WAY.
SO PROJECT LEAD THE WAY IS A PROGRAM THAT WE USE WITH ROB AND HE NEEDS TO DO SOME UPDATES.
THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU. CINDY. ALL RIGHT.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS? AFTER THE CONSENT AGENDA APPROVAL.
AND WE HAVE NO OLD BUSINESS TONIGHT.
WE HAVE TWO ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS.
[10. New Business (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]
THE FIRST ONE IS TO RETIRE POLICY 5612.ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THAT, SHELLY? YES. SO THIS IS UP FOR RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU TO RETIRE THIS POLICY.
WE ACTUALLY HAVE ANOTHER POLICY, SO IT'S REDUNDANT.
THAT POLICY IS 5001 HIRING OF RETIRED SCHOOL EMPLOYEES.
THEY ESSENTIALLY COVERED THE SAME THING.
SO IT WAS TIME FOR US TO JUST DO A LITTLE CLEANING.
BUT THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY REDUNDANT.
IT'S UNNECESSARY TO HAVE THEM SEPARATED BY THE TYPE OF EMPLOYEE.
I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, APPROVE THE RETIREMENT OF POLICY 5612 TEMPORARY ADMINISTRATORS.
I LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.
ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.
AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 4 TO 0.
NEXT WE HAVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 6220 BID OR REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS.
REQUESTING APPROVAL OF THESE REVISIONS.
IT'S BASED ON A CHANGE IN STATUTORY LAW UNDER SENATE BILL 5268, AND THAT BILL WAS ADDRESSING EQUITY AND EFFICIENCIES IN PUBLIC WORK PROCEDURES.
AND WHAT IT DOES IS IT JUST KIND OF MODIFYING OUR SMALL WORKS ROSTER REQUIREMENTS AND ALSO PROVIDING MORE CLARITY ON PROCEDURES WITH INTERLOCAL AGREEMENTS AS WELL.
AND SO WHICH WE FOLLOW, IT'S JUST KIND OF MEMORIALIZING THOSE PROCEDURES.
SO THEY FELT THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO WRAP IT IN ALSO WITH THE SMALL WORKS PROCUREMENT PROCEDURE UPDATES THAT THEY DID.
SO KEVIN, I'VE WORKED WITH KEVIN JOLMA ON THIS, AND HE'S, YOU KNOW, WE'VE UPDATED ALL OF OUR PROCEDURES TO BE IN ALIGNMENT WITH THIS, THIS NEW LAW. AND SO THIS JUST KIND OF MEMORIALIZES ALL THAT WORK THAT WE'VE DONE.
ANY QUESTIONS? JUST THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSTANT THOROUGHNESS IN ALL OF THIS.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO. I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.
A MOTION ON THE FLOOR. I'D LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.
PRO. PRO. FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD.
ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.
AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 4 TO 0.
