GOOD EVENING. BOARD.

I HAVE THE HONOR OF SHARING WITH YOU A LITTLE VIDEO HERE OF ONE OF OUR EMPLOYEES, LORI BENSON.

LORI IS HERE THIS EVENING, BUT BEFORE I CALL HER ON UP, WE ARE GOING TO WATCH A LITTLE VIDEO.

LORI IS A CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE IN OUR DISTRICT.

SHE IS AN SSIA, A READING SSIA, AND HAS BEEN IN OUR DISTRICT FOR ALMOST 26 YEARS AS AN SSIA.

SHE HAS WON THE PSC 2024 EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARD.

YAY! THIS HAPPENED EARLIER IN THE YEAR, BUT WE FELT LIKE THIS WAS VERY APPROPRIATE TO HONOR HER HERE AT A BOARD MEETING AND SO WHAT I'D LIKE TO DO IS BE ABLE TO WATCH A LITTLE VIDEO CLIP OF THE OF LORI AND THE AWARD THAT SHE RECEIVED AND THEN CALL HER ON UP, AND I THINK SHE WOULD WELCOME ANY QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD.

THANK YOU. WE'RE HERE AT BATTLE GROUND WASHINGTON TO AWARD THE EDUCATION SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR.

IT'S GOING TO BE VERY EXCITING.

FOLLOW ME. WE'RE GOING TO GO.

SURPRISE HER NOW! [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU.

SHE'S JUST A GREAT ASSET TO HER SCHOOL, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD TO HAVE HER AS A PSC MEMBER.

MY NAME IS LORI BENSON AND I AM A PARAEDUCATOR.

I AM THE CONTACT IA.

I'VE WORKED IN BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 25 YEARS NOW.

MY KIDDO HAS BEEN IN A READING GROUP WITH MISS BENSON FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS.

SHE'S THE BEST.

IT IS BY FAR HIS FAVORITE TIME OF DAY.

EVERY SINGLE DAY.

ALL THE KIDS, EVEN KIDS THAT AREN'T REALLY WANT TO BE IN MISS BENSON'S GROUP.

THE IMPACT THAT LORI HAS IS TREMENDOUS.

THESE KIDDOS LOVE LORI.

[INAUDIBLE] MY READING GROUP TEACHER THIS YEAR AND SHE TEACH ME A LOT.

[00:05:01]

[INAUDIBLE]. I DO THIS WORK BECAUSE I WAS A STRUGGLING READER WHEN I WAS A CHILD, AND I KNOW WHAT AN IMPACT THAT CAN HAVE ON KIDDOS.

IF I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE EVEN WITH JUST ONE KID, I FEEL LIKE I'VE DONE MY JOB.

SHE WAS SO SWEET TO ME.

SHE WOULD NEVER LIKE.

SHE WOULD ALWAYS ROOT ME ON AND SHE WAS SO KIND.

SUPPORTING THE STUDENTS IS MY MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY.

MISS BENSON HELPS ALL STUDENTS AT THIS SCHOOL FEEL EMOTIONALLY SAFE, AND WITH THAT, THEY ARE ABLE TO TAKE RISKS AND THEY'RE THE BEST PART OF MY DAY IS THE STUDENTS.

I REALLY ENJOY THE KIDDOS AND I JUST LOVE THEM.

SHE GOES OUT OF HER WAY FOR BATTLE GROUND CHAPTER MEMBERS OR THE STUDENTS HERE? THE STAFF HERE? SHE'S VERY INVOLVED.

SHE'S ALWAYS BEEN VERY PRO EMPLOYEE.

PRO STUDENT.

SHE'S ALWAYS AT THE BOARD MEETINGS.

SHE'S ALWAYS OUT DOING WAVING SIGNS AS WELL.

SHE'S HELPING OTHER MEMBERS IF THEY NEED AN EAR TO BE LISTENED TO AND LORI'S RIGHT THERE TO HELP THEM.

I'LL BE HONEST. WHEN I SIT DOWN AND WORK WITH THE DISTRICT AND THINGS AND I GET MAYBE I KNOW WE'VE DONE SOMETHING, BUT I'M NOT SURE.

I'LL CALL LORI FOR HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE AND LORI IS ALWAYS RIGHT ON TOP OF THINGS.

SHE'S SERVED IN MANY DIFFERENT ROLES.

SHE'S BEEN CO-PRESIDENT OF OUR CHAPTER MORE THAN ONCE.

SHE'S VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE CONTRACT, THE PLEASURE OF WITNESSING HER WORK IN A GROUP SETTING WHERE THE TEAMS TEAM SOMETIMES NEEDS TO MAKE SOME REALLY TOUGH DECISIONS. SHE KNOWS THAT THE UNION GIVES THOSE EMPLOYEES A VOICE IN THEIR DISTRICT, AND SHE HAS SAT IN MANY MEETINGS WITH EMPLOYEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE FAIR REPRESENTATION.

EVERYBODY IN THE DISTRICT KNOWS HER.

EVERYBODY IN THE COMMUNITY SEEMS TO KNOW HER.

YOU CAN'T GO ANYWHERE QUICKLY BECAUSE SHE'S ALL THESE PEOPLE SHE HAS TO STOP AND TALK TO.

YOU CAN'T GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT CURRENT STUDENTS OR FORMER STUDENTS FOR THE LAST 20, 25 YEARS COMING UP AND TALKING TO HER.

I WAS SO SURPRISED.

THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE.

WHEN I TURNED AROUND AND SAW ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND THE PSC MEMBERS STANDING THERE TO SUPPORT ME, IT WAS JUST UNBELIEVABLE.

TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY.

I WAS NOT EXPECTING ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

THANK YOU, MISS BENSON, FOR HELPING MY BOY LEARN AND GROW.

MS. BENSON, YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT TEACHER.

MISS BENSON, YOU ARE HEART FILLING TEACHER.

THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE FOR ALL THE STUDENTS YOU'VE HAD HERE IN BATTLE GROUND AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSTANT SUPPORT OF PSC.

I KNOW YOU AS A PERSON, AS A MENTOR, AS A FRIEND.

LORI, I WISH I HAD ONE OF YOU IN ALL OF MY CHAPTERS.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU'VE DONE TO STRENGTHEN THIS CHAPTER AND THE TEAM.

WELL, I LOVE YOU.

I KNOW YOU'VE DEDICATED A LOT OF TIME TO THE DISTRICT, BUT IT'S TIME TO RETIRE.

[INAUDIBLE] MY FAMILY.

IT HAS MEANT SUPPORT.

IT HAS MEANT OH, SO MANY FRIENDS, SO MANY GOOD TIMES.

WE'VE JUST HAD A BALL WITH BEING IN [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU. SO, SCHOOL BOARD, THIS IS LORI BENSON, AND SHE WOULD WELCOME ANY QUESTIONS.

COMMENTS. SHE HAS BEEN WITH DAYBREAK FOR QUITE SOME TIME, I THINK, SINCE IT OPENED.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THIS IS A BIG DEAL.

I MEAN, I HOPE YOU KNOW HOW BIG OF A DEAL THIS IS AND WELL DESERVED, MY FRIEND.

THANK YOU. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC.

WE ARE. YOU MAKE US PROUD.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IT'S BEEN GREAT TO REPRESENT BATTLE GROUND.

YEAH. YEAH. WELL, WE APPRECIATE IT.

WE'VE NEVER MET, AND I'M GREATLY MOVED.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. THE VIDEO WAS ABSOLUTELY PRECIOUS.

[00:10:01]

WHAT THE CHILDREN HAD TO SAY MUST MEAN EVERYTHING TO YOU.

YES IT DOES. VERY PROUD.

THANK YOU FOR THE RECOGNITION.

[INAUDIBLE].

ARE YOU RETIRING? [INAUDIBLE].

JUST KEEP PUSHING IT OUT.

I'M JUST ASKING.

YEAH. WE DON'T WANT YOU TO RETIRE.

YOU SCARED ME OR YOUR DAUGHTER SCARED ME.

SHE SCARED ME, TOO. THAT WAS THE.

SHE'S STILL BACK THERE SAYING AND I STILL THINK YOU NEED TO RETIRE.

WELL, YOUR SISTERS HAVE DONE IT.

SO LORI COMES FROM A LONG A FAMILY THAT HAS GIVEN A TON TO THIS DISTRICT.

SO WE APPRECIATE THE DEDICATION AND LOYALTY.

IT'S GOES WITHOUT SAYING, FRANKLY.

YEAH, ABSOLUTELY. WELL.

THANK YOU. YEAH. THANK YOU.

CONGRATS AGAIN. CAN I JUST ADD SOMETHING? SO WE WERE TALKING EARLIER ABOUT GETTING DATA, AND IT DOESN'T ALWAYS COME IN NUMBERS.

YEAH RIGHT AND IF WE LOOKED OVER HERE, WE'D SEE SO MANY OF THOSE POINTS THAT WERE IN THAT VIDEO BECAUSE OF HER WORK.

HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION, SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT.

[INAUDIBLE]. NEXT UP, WE GOT ME.

NEXT UP WE HAVE MICHELLE SCOTT WITH A SCHOLARSHIP DONATION FROM GRACE [INAUDIBLE] ESTATE.

SO ANOTHER GOOD ONE.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

TONIGHT YOU'LL FIND ON THE CONSENT AGENDA ITEM NUMBER EIGHT, WHICH IS APPROVAL OF THE DONATION FROM THE ESTATE OF GRACE WETTER FOR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.

BUT BEFORE I GO ANY FURTHER, I'D LIKE TO WELCOME ANY FAMILY THAT IS HERE ATTENDING TONIGHT TO JOIN ME AT THE PODIUM.

[INAUDIBLE].

SHELLEY'S GOING TO SAY A FEW WORDS.

I'D LIKE TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS WITH ALL OF YOU.

THIS IS PRETTY AMAZING.

I LOVE STORIES LIKE THIS BECAUSE I COME FROM A FAMILY THAT'S BEEN IN THE COMMUNITY FOR A LONG TIME.

THIS FAMILY HAS TOO, AND I'M GOING TO SHARE SOME INFORMATION WITH YOU THAT WILL BE AWE INSPIRING, I BELIEVE.

GRACE WORKED FOR OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR 32 YEARS.

SHE STARTED IN OUR DISTRICT AS A HEALTH FITNESS TEACHER AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN TRANSITIONED TO A COUNSELING POSITION AND WAS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL FOR 20 YEARS.

AFTER 20 YEARS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, SHE TRANSFERRED OVER TO PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE SHE FINISHED HER CAREER AS A SCHOOL COUNSELOR.

WHAT IS AMAZING ABOUT GRACE IS MANY THINGS.

HER MOM, FOR INSTANCE, WAS ALSO NAMED GRACE, AND MANY OF YOU ARE PROBABLY AWARE OF GRACE AVENUE.

SHE ACTUALLY USED TO BABYSIT FOR THE MAYOR AT THE TIME, AND SO HER MOTHER WAS THE NAMESAKE OF GRACE AVENUE BECAUSE OF THE BABYSITTING THAT SHE DID FOR THE MAYOR.

SO A LITTLE BIT OF FUN.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT GRACE'S BACKGROUND.

SHE GRADUATED FROM BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL IN 1951.

SHE GOT HER BACHELOR'S IN EDUCATION AT KANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY, A MASTER'S IN EDUCATION AT WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY, AND HER YEARS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL WERE 1959 THROUGH 1979.

SHE THEN TRANSFERRED IN 1979, AS I SAID, TO PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE RETIRED IN 1991.

SHE WAS OBVIOUSLY VERY DEDICATED TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, HAVING SET UP A SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE STUDENTS AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

SHE HAS 12 CHILDREN, 25 GRANDCHILDREN, 32 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND ONE GREAT, GREAT GRANDCHILD.

SHE ALSO HAS RIGHT NOW TWO OF HER GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.

ONE IS AT PRAIRIE AND ONE IS AT LAUREN.

CURRENTLY, SO LONG STANDING TRADITION OF THIS WONDERFUL FAMILY IN OUR COMMUNITY, AND IT JUST MEANS A LOT FOR, AGAIN, LOYAL EMPLOYEES TO STAY IN OUR COMMUNITY, RAISE THEIR FAMILIES HERE, AND THEN CONTINUE TO GIVE BACK TO BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND FOR BEING HERE.

[00:15:04]

TWO GRADUATES RIGHT HERE [INAUDIBLE].

OH, AWESOME. [INAUDIBLE].

THERE WE GO. WHY DON'T YOU TAKE A MINUTE AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO THE BOARD? MY NAME IS CASSANDRA AND I AM GRACE'S GRAND DAUGHTER AND MY KIDS ARE THE ONES THAT ARE CURRENTLY AT PRAIRIE.

[INAUDIBLE].

AND HER LOVE AND DEVOTION TO HER STUDENTS AND HER FAMILY JUST SHINES EXTREMELY BRIGHT.

[INAUDIBLE]. MY NAME IS KIARA.

I'M GRACE'S GRANDDAUGHTER AND I GRADUATED IN 2020 AND I'M [INAUDIBLE] AND I'M ALSO GRACIE'S GRANDDAUGHTER.

I'M MARLA CAESAR, AND I'M HER DAUGHTER, AND I WORK AT PRAIRIE.

SHE, TOO, IS A COUNSELOR WHO HAS BEEN IN OUR DISTRICT FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

BOTH AT LAUREN AND AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND NOW AT PRAIRIE.

SO FOLLOWING A LITTLE BIT IN MOM'S FOOTSTEPS, MARLA'S HUSBAND AGAIN, ALL THE DEDICATION THESE WOMEN PUT FORTH IN DEALING WITH THE DISTRICT STUFF AND COUNTLESS HOURS.

I SEE IT ALL THE TIME.

COMMENCE TO ALL YOU FOLKS AND ANY TEACHERS OUT THERE OR ANYONE IN THE DISTRICT, YOU GUYS, YOU CAN'T GET ENOUGH ACCOLADES.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH, ERIC AND JUST A SPECIAL THANK YOU.

MARLA HAS SOMETHING THAT I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU.

THIS IS A RETIREMENT PLAQUE THAT SHE FOUND OF HER MOM'S, AND I'LL READ IT.

IT SAYS I EXPECT TO PASS THROUGH LIFE, BUT ONCE.

IF THEREFORE, THERE BE ANY KINDNESS I CAN SHOW OR ANY GOOD THING I CAN DO TO ANY FELLOW BEINGS, LET ME DO IT NOW AND NOT DEFER OR NEGLECT IT, AS I SHALL NOT PASS THIS WAY AGAIN BY WILLIAM PENN AND THAT WAS PRESENTED TO GRACE WHEN SHE RETIRED.

SO IF YOU WANT TO TAKE A LOOK, AND THEN ON THE BACK YOU'LL ACTUALLY SEE THE PIECES THAT THE SCHOLARSHIP ARE SET UP.

SO WITH THE ACRONYM GRACE GIVES TO OTHERS, RADIATES KINDNESS, AMBITIOUS AND HARD-WORKING, CARES FOR OTHERS, AND EXHIBITS A GROWTH MINDSET.

SO THOSE ARE THE ATTRIBUTES THAT THEY WILL BE LOOKING FOR IN THE RECIPIENTS.

SO QUITE THE WONDERFUL SCHOLARSHIP AND OPPORTUNITY.

WE'RE JUST THRILLED THAT SHE GAVE THAT.

I'LL SEND THIS AROUND SO YOU CAN TAKE A PEEK.

[INAUDIBLE].

DO YOU WANT TO SAY ANYTHING MORE? MY MOM TOLD ME THE SECRET TO PUBLIC SPEAKING IS TO BE SINCERE, BE BRIEF AND BE SEATED.

WITH THAT SAID, I WANT TO.

I APPRECIATE THE BOARD'S CONSIDERATION OF THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP DONATION IN HONOR OF MY MOM'S LEGACY.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

[INAUDIBLE] . I'M NOT RUNNING FOR OFFICE.

ERIC. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN YOU A HUG, TOO.

[INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU AGAIN. THANK YOU.

NEXT UP, LUKE LECOUNT WITH OUR EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARDS.

HOLY SMOKES. I THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT, BUT TWO AWESOME RECOGNITIONS THERE.

SO WELL DESERVED.

BOARD, TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE FIVE STAFF MEMBERS ACROSS OUR DISTRICT.

IF YOU RECALL, LAST YEAR MID-YEAR WE STARTED A MONTHLY RECOGNITION OF 3 TO 5 STAFF MEMBERS WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS, STUDENTS AND STAFF COULD NOMINATE EMPLOYEES ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO BE RECOGNIZED IN FRONT OF YOU GUYS AND ALSO TO RECEIVE A LITTLE CERTIFICATE.

BUT AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, THE LIST OF STAFF THAT ARE BEING NOMINATED AND RECOGNIZED CONTINUES TO GROW.

IT'S A DIFFICULT TO NARROW DOWN TO THREE OR 4 OR 5 EACH MONTH, BUT WE'RE GOING TO KICK IT OFF THIS YEAR WITH FIVE.

ROBERT LANGLOSS, TRACY VILLINES, MELISSA SANTILLI, BROCK LEDBETTER, AND NICHOLAS GEGA.

IF YOU GUYS COULD ALL MAKE YOUR WAY UP TO THE FRONT, IF YOU'RE

[00:20:09]

I KNOW WE HAD TWO FOLKS THAT SAID THEY COULDN'T MAKE IT TODAY, SO WHAT I'M GOING TO DO IS READ A LITTLE PREVIEW OF THE NOMINATION THAT CAME IN TO US IN RECENT MONTHS, AND THEN WE'LL GIVE YOU GUYS A LITTLE CERTIFICATE, AND THEN AFTERWARDS YOU GET A CHANCE TO SHAKE HANDS WITH THE BOARD AND THEN GET A PICTURE WITH AMANDA. SO ALL RIGHT, FIRST WE GOT ROBERT LANGLOSS FROM YACOLT PRIMARY SCHOOL.

MR. LANGLOIS IS A THIRD GRADE TEACHER AT YACOLT.

HIS DEDICATION TO HIS STUDENTS HAS TRULY MADE A DIFFERENCE IN RECENT YEARS.

BY ADJUSTING HIS TEACHING TO EACH CHILD'S NEEDS, HE HAS HELPED MANY STUDENTS GROW ACADEMICALLY AND PERSONALLY.

MR. LANGLOIS NOT ONLY INSPIRES A LOVE OF LEARNING, BUT ALSO SETS AN EXAMPLE OF PATIENCE, RESPECT AND KINDNESS.

WE ARE INCREDIBLY FORTUNATE TO HAVE MR. LANGLOIS IN OUR DISTRICT AND TRACEE COULD NOT BE HERE. MISS TRACY IS A PARAEDUCATOR AT DAYBREAK AND REMAINS EXTREMELY DEDICATED TO THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

STARTING AS A VOLUNTEER AND A LUNCH LADY, SHE BECAME.

SHE'S BECOME A BELOVED FIGURE TO STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

KNOWN BY KIDS ALL OVER TOWN, SHE CREATES A SAFE, WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE, WHETHER COACHING, SPORTS OR WORKING IN THE CLASSROOM.

HER PASSION SHINES THROUGH AND STUDENTS THRIVE UNDER HER CARE.

WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE MISS TRACEE IN OUR DISTRICT.

MELISSA IS AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST AT MAPLE GROVE AND IS RECOGNIZED FOR HER DEDICATION TO HER STUDENTS.

MELISSA GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND TO HELP KIDS SUCCEED, OFFERING SUPPORT THAT EXTENDS BEYOND HER ROLE.

RECENTLY, SHE PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN HELPING A KINDERGARTNER ADJUST TO A BIG MOVE AND TRANSITION INTO SCHOOL.

HER KINDNESS, COMMUNICATION, AND COMMITMENT HAVE MADE A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES.

WE'RE FORTUNATE TO HAVE MELISSA IN OUR DISTRICT.

MR. LEDBETTER, BROCK LEDBETTER IS COACHING BASKETBALL TONIGHT, SO HE IS NOT ABLE TO ATTEND.

BUT BROCK IS A TEACHER AT AMBOY AND HAS YEARS OF DEDICATION TO HIS STUDENTS AND ATHLETES AS A TEACHER AND COACH.

HE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND, CHALLENGING HIS STUDENTS TO GROW AND PROMOTING TEAMWORK, THOUGH HE HUMBLY SAYS HE'S JUST DOING HIS JOB.

BROCK'S IMPACT EXTENDS FAR BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.

HIS MENTORSHIP AND COMMITMENT INSPIRE THOSE AROUND HIM, MAKING HIM TRULY DESERVING OF THIS RECOGNITION.

WE ARE VERY THANKFUL FOR BROCK TO BE IN OUR DISTRICT.

MASTER SERGEANT GEGA IS A TEACHER AT BGHS'S AND HAVING AN INCREDIBLE IMPACT ON STUDENTS.

HE HAS STEPPED INTO A CHALLENGING ROLE AND CONTINUES TO EXCEL BY TEACHING LIFE LESSONS BEYOND THE CLASSROOM.

FROM PROMOTING TEAMWORK TO BEING A SUPPORTIVE MENTOR, MASTER SERGEANT GEGA IS ALWAYS THERE FOR HIS STUDENTS, WHETHER THEY NEED ACADEMIC HELP OR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT.

HIS DEDICATION AND CARE MAKE A LASTING DIFFERENCE AND WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE HIM AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

SO IF YOU GUYS WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT, I KNOW THE BOARD ENJOYS MEETING EVERY EMPLOYEE THAT GETS RECOGNIZED AT THE BOARD MEETING.

SO YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND MAKE A LOOP AROUND, AND THEN WE'LL END RIGHT HERE WITH A PHOTO WITH AMANDA.

OKAY, LET'S JUST END THE MEETING NOW.

NO, BUT WAIT NEXT TO STUDENT VOICE.

[6. Communications]

OKAY. I BELIEVE WE HAVE STUDENTS HERE FROM CHIEF UMTUCH.

WILL YOU COME TO THE PODIUM, PLEASE? THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TONIGHT.

HELLO. OH, [INAUDIBLE] LIKE, CHIEF, IS A GOOD SCHOOL TO GO TO.

ESPECIALLY LIKE WE HAVE A BUNCH OF SPORTS THAT WE CAN LIKE.

[00:25:04]

EVERYBODY CAN ATTEND SIXTH GRADE AND ABOVE.

WE HAVE VOLLEYBALL.

WE HAVE SOCCER.

WHICH CHIEF IS ACTUALLY THE DEFENDING CHAMPION OF FOR TWO YEARS.

NICE AND WE HAVE CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK.

WE ALSO HAVE BASKETBALL.

CHIEF ALSO HAS A LOT OF DIFFERENT ARTS PROGRAMS. WE HAVE BAND, WHICH IS HAS WON MANY, MANY AWARDS IN MARCHING BAND PARADES.

WE HAVE MULTIPLE JAZZ BANDS.

OBVIOUSLY ART CLASSES AND WE DO MUSICALS EVERY TWO YEARS.

DO YOU GUYS HAVE QUESTIONS? OH, ARE THEY DONE? THEY MIGHT NOT BE DONE.

I DON'T KNOW. ARE YOU. DO YOU HAVE MORE TO SHARE WITH US? I GOT MORE. IT'S TRANSITIONING.

RIGHT? THEY'RE STILL GOING BACK AND FORTH.

SORRY. COME ON.

ONE MICROPHONE.

WE ALSO HAVE A LOT OF, LIKE, AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES LIKE ASB, WHICH IS FROM WHERE WE'RE FROM AND WE PLAN A LOT OF LIKE AFTER SCHOOL THINGS LIKE ASSEMBLIES. WE PLANNED A LOT OF SOCIALS, WE PLAN A LOT OF LIKE SPIRIT WEEKS AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

WE HAVE ROBOTICS, WHICH WE ENDED UP MOVING UP FROM BECAUSE BEFORE WE HAD LEGO ROBOTICS AND THEN WE MOVED ON TO JUST LIKE ROBOTICS, LIKE GENERAL AND LIKE GENERAL.

WE HAVE ROCKET CLUB, WHICH WE TAKE A BUNCH OF LITTLE, LIKE, SODA BOTTLES AND JUST LAUNCH THEM.

WE'VE GOT YEARBOOK, WHICH WE GET TO BE IN CHARGE OF FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND WE HAVE GREEN TEAM, WHERE WE KIND OF JUST HELP WITH A LITTLE GARDENING AROUND, AND WE HAVE FUTURE CITY AS WELL.

IT'S. YEAH.

WE ALSO DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT EVENTS AT CHIEF.

LAST YEAR, WE HAD A PARTY FOR MRS. ARMSTRONG, WHICH WAS COMPLETELY STUDENT LED.

STUDENTS ORGANIZED ALL OF THAT.

I WAS ONE OF THEM.

STUDENTS. WE HAVE OBVIOUSLY THE MUSICALS EVERY TWO YEARS, WHICH ARE MOSTLY STUDENT LED EXCEPT FOR DIRECTORS DIRECTING US.

WE DO LOTS OF DIFFERENT ASSEMBLIES AND SOCIALS, WHICH THEY ALREADY TALKED ABOUT, AND WE DID SOMETHING ELSE.

I FORGOT WHAT IT WAS.

THAT'S GOOD. COULD YOU.

YEAH. COULD YOU GUYS INTRODUCE YOURSELVES AND WHAT GRADE YOU ARE? I'M MALIA. I'M IN SEVENTH GRADE.

I'M SEIJI, AND I'M IN EIGHTH GRADE.

FANTASTIC. I THINK THEY'RE DONE NOW.

QUESTIONS? QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD.

WHAT ACTIVITIES OR SPORTS HAVE YOU GUYS BEEN INVOLVED IN? I HAVEN'T DONE ANY SPORTS.

I'M IN A LOT OF OTHER ACTIVITIES.

WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN IN? I'M MOSTLY IN ASB.

I DO PRETTY MUCH EVERY BAND PROGRAM I CAN AND MUSICALS.

[INAUDIBLE]. THAT'S WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY.

I THINK I REMEMBER YOU FROM NEWSIES.

YEAH, SAME THING WITH ME.

I HAD ALREADY, LIKE, ATTENDED A SOCCER THING BEFORE I CAME TO CHIEF, SO I MOSTLY JUST STUCK WITH THAT.

OTHER THAN ASB.

NOT MUCH ELSE. OTHER THAN NEWSIES, I GUESS.

YES. FANTASTIC. COOL.

YEAH. I GOT A QUESTION FOR YOU.

WHAT DO YOU GET UP IN THE MORNING EXCITED TO DO AT SCHOOL? WHAT ARE YOU EXCITED ABOUT? WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR? BAND. MOSTLY.

BAND. I GUESS JUST LIKE BEING ABLE TO, LIKE, MEET WITH MY FRIENDS AND COMMUNICATE WITH THEM THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DAY AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

COOL. WHAT INSTRUMENT DO YOU PLAY IN BAND? THE BEST ONE, CLARINET.

FLUTE. OKAY. COMPETITION.

NOW. ALL RIGHT, I GOT A QUESTION.

I HAVE A QUESTION. I THINK I HEARD YOU SAY SOMETHING ABOUT FUTURE CITY.

YEAH. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? MOSTLY. FUTURE CITY WORKS ON DESIGNING MODELS OF CITIES THAT COULD BE IMAGINED IN THE FUTURE TO BE MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY.

OH, COOL. VERY COOL.

ANYBODY ELSE? WELL, YOU SHOULD BRING US SOME PICTURES OF A FUTURE CITY SOMETIME.

OKAY. YEAH. ALRIGHT.

LATER IN THE YEAR, I THINK WE THERE WERE PHOTOS THAT WERE, LIKE, PUT OUT WHEN THE, LIKE, ADVERTISING.

BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY ACCESS TO BRING US SOMETHING THIS YEAR TO SEE.

I'D LOVE TO SEE IT. YEAH.

JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU BOTH FOR COMING.

YOU DID IT. FIRST OF ALL, YOU DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB AND IT'S NOT EASY STANDING UP IN FRONT OF ALL THESE PEOPLE.

BUT YOU GUYS WERE TERRIFIC AND PROVIDED US WITH SOME GREAT INFORMATION.

REALLY, REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU.

ARE YOUR PARENTS HERE?

[00:30:02]

I JUST WANT TO RECOGNIZE IN THE BACK THERE ARE OUR ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM FROM CHIEF IS THERE TAMARA, GREG, THE PRINCIPAL, AND JUSTIN PIERCE, THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL? YEAH. I'D JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THEIR PARENTS FOR LETTING THEM COME AND SHARE WITH US.

YES. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER STUDENTS IN THE AUDIENCE? YEAH. I FORGOT TO TELL YOU.

[INAUDIBLE]. COMING TODAY.

OH, HEY, BY THE WAY, SOMEONE FROM RIVER HOME IS COMING TODAY.

THANKS. SURPRISE! HELLO. WELCOME.

OKAY. HELLO, EVERYONE.

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW ME, MY NAME IS HOLLY EHAWS.

I'M A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND I AM RIVER HOMELINK ASB VICE PRESIDENT.

I'M HERE TO GIVE YOU JUST A RUNDOWN OF WHAT OUR ASB HAS BEEN UP TO SINCE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

SO HO ASSEMBLIES ARE ACTUALLY ALL HAPPENING RIGHT NOW THIS WEEK.

SINCE RIVER HOMELINK IS A K THROUGH 12.

ALE SCHOOL.

OUR ASB DECIDED THE BEST WAY TO BRING INCLUSION TO OUR WHOLE STUDENT BODY WOULD BE TO HAVE THREE SEPARATE ASSEMBLIES.

SO ONE FOR GRADES K THROUGH TWO, ONE FOR THREE THROUGH SIX, AND ONE FOR SEVEN THROUGH 12.

THE THEME FOR THIS ASSEMBLY IS WE BELONG BECAUSE ASB IS WHY? OR A GOAL FOR THIS YEAR IS TO BRING INCLUSION AND HARMONY TO OUR SCHOOL, AND THAT STARTS WITH OFFERING OUR STUDENT BODY A SENSE OF BELONGING.

OUR FIRST ASSEMBLY WAS TODAY FOR THE MONDAY THURSDAY K THROUGH TWO AND THREE THROUGH SIX GROUP, AND IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD SUCCESS.

WE CAN'T WAIT TO CONTINUE ASSEMBLIES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.

PERSONALLY, THEY'RE ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS TO CHAIR AND TO JUST BE A PART OF.

SO THERE'S SO MUCH FUN THIS YEAR.

WE WANTED TO BRANCH OUT AND TRY SOMETHING NEW AND DECIDED ON DOING AN ESCAPE ROOM NIGHT.

IT'S GOING TO BE THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM 630 TO 8:30.

IT'S FOR ALL AGES AND PERSONALLY, I'M SO EXCITED TO SEE HOW IT GOES BECAUSE WE'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THAT, REALLY.

FALL DANCE IS ALSO COMING UP ON OCTOBER 25TH FROM 7 TO 10PM, AND THE THEME IS THE 50'S.

FALL DANCE IS OUR ONLY INFORMAL DANCE OF THE WHOLE YEAR, AND IT'S ALWAYS A FAN FAVORITE.

RIVER HOMELINK HAS A BRAND NEW LEADERSHIP CLASS FOR THE THIRD THROUGH SIXTH GRADERS, AND WE COULDN'T BE HAPPIER THAT YOUNGER KIDS FROM OUR SCHOOL GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN HOW TO BECOME STUDENT LEADERS, AND WE'RE SO EXCITED TO WORK WITH THEM IN THE FUTURE.

AND THAT'S JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING I HAVE TO SHARE WITH YOU GUYS RIGHT NOW.

SO THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? NICE JOB, BY THE WAY. THANK YOU.

ALSO, I WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY THAT BECAUSE WE HAVE A MONDAY, THURSDAY GROUP AND A TUESDAY, FRIDAY GROUP ASB IS ACTUALLY DOING SIX ASSEMBLIES.

YES. SO IT'S NOT THREE ASSEMBLIES.

WE DO SIX. YEAH.

BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT TO DO THE THREE FOR.

DO THE DIFFERENT DAYS AND THEN THE THREE FOR THE OTHER DAYS.

YEAH. IT'S A BUSY WEEK SCHEDULE.

YEAH. WE ALSO HAVE AN EVENT ON FRIDAY.

JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, WHEN YOU DO AN ASSEMBLY AND YOU BREAK IT UP THAT WAY, HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN EACH GROUP, EACH ASSEMBLY.

IT REALLY DEPENDS ON THE AGE GROUP.

SO AND IT ALSO DEPENDS ON THE DAY.

SO MONDAY, THURSDAY TODAY FOR K THROUGH TWO, I THINK THAT WAS OUR BIGGEST GROUP.

THERE WAS A LOT OF K THROUGH TWOS OR JULIA SEEMS LIKE SHE DISAGREES.

THEY WERE KIND OF SIMILAR.

BUT IT'S AROUND LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, IT'S A LOT OF KIDS.

YEAH AND THEN FOR SEVEN THROUGH 12, NORMALLY IT'S ABOUT 200 ISH PER DAY.

BUT IT JUST DEPENDS AGAIN ON WHEN THEIR SCHEDULE IS BECAUSE OUR SCHOOLS SORRY, OUR SCHOOLS WEIRD WITH OUR SCHEDULING AND LIKE IT DEPENDS ON THE DAY.

YEAH. I FEEL LIKE TYPICALLY THERE'S MORE PEOPLE TUESDAY FRIDAY.

BUT NICE LEADERSHIP ON THE PART OF YOU GUYS TO DO THAT AND BREAK IT OUT THAT WAY.

THANK YOU. YOU CAN CONNECT.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU MORE OKAY.

YES. EVERY MONTH COME BACK AND VISIT US ANYTIME I WILL.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD. THANK YOU GUYS.

THANK YOU.

ANY OTHER STUDENTS IN THE AUDIENCE WHO HAVEN'T COME FORWARD.

OKAY, THEN I WILL LOOK TO JULIA AND ITZEL FOR THEY HAVE ANY REPORTS.

ITZEL SAYS I SHOULD GO FIRST AGAIN.

OKAY, SO WHEN HOLLY COMES, THAT GIVES ME MUCH LESS TO REPORT.

BUT I STILL HAVE A LOT OF STUFF.

SO IN TERMS OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES WSSDA, WHICH IS THE WASHINGTON STATE'S DIRECTOR SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION, SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

WE HAVE OUR FIRST STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE NETWORK MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 30TH.

YEAH AND THAT'S RUN BY I'M NOT SURE WHAT HER EXACT ROLE IS, BUT IT'S BY MARISSA RATHBONE NOW.

SO THERE WAS A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP, WHICH IS GOING TO BE REALLY EXCITING.

IT'S OUR FIRST ONE OF THE YEAR, WHICH I THINK I ALREADY SAID, BUT YEAH ATHLETICS GUYS, IT'S GOING CRAZY RIGHT NOW.

CROSS COUNTRY. WE'RE KILLING IT RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE A SOPHOMORE.

HIS NAME IS LLOYD KING.

[00:35:01]

HE'S SECOND, SECOND AND 4A STATE RIGHT NOW AND FOURTH OVERALL AND HE JUST JOGGED THAT ON THE LEWISVILLE COURSE, WHICH IF YOU DON'T KNOW, THAT HAS A TON OF HILLS.

AND SO THAT'S NOT NORMALLY AND THEN WE HAVE A SOPHOMORE SOPHIA, WHO'S ALSO LIKE I DON'T KNOW, SHE'S LIKE 10TH IN THE STATE RIGHT NOW FOR 4A SO WE HAVE SOME WE HAVE SOME TALENT RIGHT NOW ON THE CROSS COUNTRY TEAM AND WE ALSO HAD A RIVALRY GAME.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SITTING NEXT TO ITZEL RIGHT NOW.

HONESTLY, I CAN'T EVEN LOOK AT HER BUT IT WAS A GOOD GAME.

IT WAS REAL CLOSE. SO FEEL PRETTY GOOD ABOUT THAT.

CLARK STARTED TODAY.

CLARK CLASSES. SO BOTH ITZEL AND I ACTUALLY DO RUNNING START.

SO JUNIORS AND SENIORS HAD A LOT OF FUN ON CAMPUS TODAY AND NONE OF MY TEXTBOOKS ARE LOADING, WHICH IS FUN.

BUT AND THEN FOR RIVER HOMELINK SPECIFICALLY, WE'RE HAVING OUR SECOND EVER OUTDOOR SCHOOL COMING UP ON FROM AND THIS IS FOR FIFTH THROUGH SIXTH GRADERS, AND THEY GET A CHANCE TO GO TO THE CAMPUS UP IN RANDALL, WASHINGTON AND WE'RE IN THEIR LAST YEAR, THE THEME WAS WHO LIVES HERE? AND SO WE LEARNED ABOUT, LIKE, ALL THE NATIVE PLANTS.

WE LEARNED ABOUT THE TRIBES WHO INHABIT THIS LAND AND IT WAS REALLY AWESOME.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT THE THEME IS THIS YEAR BECAUSE I CAN'T GO, BUT IT'S OCTOBER 15TH THROUGH 18TH AND WAIT.

HOLLY, DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE THEME IS? HOLLY DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THE THEME IS EITHER.

SHE'S GOING TO BE A COUNSELOR THOUGH, BUT IT'S SUPER AWESOME AND WE'RE SUPER EXCITED.

PARENTS ARE EXCITED. IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT.

BUT YEAH, THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO REPORT FOR TONIGHT.

FANTASTIC. OKAY.

LIKE JULIA SAID, WE HAD OUR RIVALRY GAME.

THAT'S SO FAR, PRAIRIE FOOTBALL HAS WON TWO GAMES AND LOST ONE.

OUR QB HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR QUARTERBACK, STARTER HAS BEEN NOMINATED FOR THE COLOMBIAN OF ATHLETE OF THE WEEK, AS WELL AS BEING ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THEN ANOTHER GIRL ON THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER TEAM WAS NOMINATED WAS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

SHE PLAYS OUTSIDE.

SHE PLAYS INSIDE CENTER BACK, LEFT AND RIGHT AND RIGHT NOW IN ASB WE HAVE SIX DAYS TIL SPIRIT WEEK AND THEN WE HAVE TEN DAYS TIL HOMECOMING HALFTIME WHERE WE ANNOUNCE OUR HOMECOMING COURT AND THEN WE HAVE 11 DAYS TIL OUR ACTUAL ACTUAL HOMECOMING, WHICH IS THEMED OLD HOLLYWOOD.

SO THERE ARE A FEW THINGS LOOKING FORWARD TO.

SO YEAH, I HAVE TO SAY THAT YOU WERE VERY POLITE WITHOUT RUBBING IN THE WHOLE RIVALRY GAME.

I MEAN, YOU COULD HAVE YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY.

YOU KNOW, I'M JUST SAYING.

WHO WON? YOU. RIGHT.

SEE, YOU COULDN'T EVEN YOU COULDN'T EVEN TELL WHO WON.

I JUST, YOU KNOW, YOU COULD HAVE, LIKE, TWISTED IT JUST A LITTLE BIT.

I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE TED TOO MAD RIGHT NOW.

I HAD TO KEEP IT A LITTLE NICE, A LITTLE HUMBLE, BUT.

RIGHT. WELL, IT WAS VERY POLITE OF YOU, SO NICE JOB.

WHAT WAS THE SCORE? 43 TO 38.

YEAH, THAT SOUND RIGHT? GREAT GAME. IT SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD GAME.

GREAT. EXCITING GAME.

WE WOULD HOLD BACK JUDGMENT ON GREAT.

I KEEP MY OPINIONS TO MYSELF.

NOT WHEN YOU WIN.

THAT'S DIFFERENT.

RIGHT, ON THAT NOTE, LET'S MOVE ON TO COMMITTEE REPORTS.

WE'LL START WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

OKAY. SO GENERAL ASSEMBLY IS OVER AND ACTUALLY IT WAS OVER FASTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, BECAUSE IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE TWO DAYS, AND WE FINISHED VOTING ON 48 POSITIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO POSITIONS IN ONE DAY.

SO IT WENT FASTER THIS YEAR, I THINK I ORIGINALLY REPORTED THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE WE JUST HAD 80 SOME DISTRICTS THAT WERE REGISTERED, BUT IN THE END THERE WERE 148 DISTRICTS REGISTERED, WHICH IS BETTER REMEMBERING WE STILL HAVE 295 DISTRICTS AND MANY OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAD VOTED ON AND PASSED, AND IN TERMS OF THE WAY WE WANTED THEM TO PASS, SOME DIDN'T.

WE WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PRIORITIZE POSITIONS.

THOSE WILL BE SENT TO US IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, AND I'LL GET THEM OUT TO YOU AND WE PRIORITIZE THEM SO THAT WE CAN PICK, LIKE OUR TOP TEN AND THEN THE ADVOCACY TEAM FROM WSSDA TAKES THOSE, AND THOSE ARE THE ONES THEY USE TO INFLUENCE THE LEGISLATURE.

SO WE HAVE TO NARROW IT DOWN BECAUSE ACTUALLY IN REALITY, WSSDA HAS 200 AND SOME POSITIONS AND THAT'S A LITTLE MUCH TO TAKE ALL AT ONE TIME.

MANY OF THEM CAN BE COMBINED THOUGH, LIKE ALL THE FUNDING POSITIONS AND SO ON.

[00:40:02]

SO WHEN LEGISLATION COMES UP, YOU KNOW, IT DEPENDS ON WHAT IT IS.

BUT OFTEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT MANY OF THE POSITIONS TO DECIDE WHAT OUR STANCE WILL BE.

I THINK THE BIGGEST THING THAT HAPPENED THERE WASN'T THERE WERE NO TWO HOUR DEBATES ON ONE POSITION LIKE THERE HAVE BEEN IN THE PAST, WHICH WAS NICE AND ACTUALLY TERRY LISTENED IN AND IT SEEMED QUITE CIVIL, DIDN'T IT? YES. YEAH. OKAY.

YEAH, I THOUGHT SO TOO.

THE NEW PRESIDENT DID A GREAT JOB OF RUNNING THE MEETING, AND I FELT LIKE IT WAS PRETTY SMOOTH AND SEAMLESS IN TERMS OF THE ONLINE PORTION OF IT AND SO, IS IT ENTIRELY ONLINE? ARE THERE? NO, THERE ARE PEOPLE THERE ARE DELEGATES THERE YOU CAN ATTEND IN PERSON IF YOU WISH TO.

YEAH, BUT YOU GET TO DIAL IN FOR FREE IF YOU WANT TO.

YOU JUST WATCH. SOME KIND OF A PERSONAL, YOU KNOW, WANT TO MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BAD AND SIT AND BE BORED? YOU KNOW, YOU CAN'T.

YOU CAN JUST LISTEN FOR FREE AND NOT VOTE.

BUT THEN THERE'S ONE VOTING PERSON, ONE VOTING DELEGATE.

BUT I THINK OVERALL IT WAS PRODUCTIVE AND THERE WERE I MEAN, I FELT GOOD ABOUT WHAT WAS PASSED FOR THE MOST PART.

AND I THINK WE'RE KIND OF ALL ON THE SAME PAGE IN EDUCATION IN TERMS OF WE HAVE TO HAVE MORE FUNDING AND I THINK THAT'S THE HIGH PRIORITY. SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

THANK YOU. AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT.

TED AND I, EXCUSE ME, ATTENDED THE AUDIT COMMITTEE, AND WE REVIEWED THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT EXPENSES.

WE REVIEWED PAYROLL AND SUPERINTENDENT PAYROLL.

NO TIME TAKEN AND EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER.

THE THINGS THAT WE DISCUSSED WERE IN EVERYBODY'S BUDGETS AND JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS.

THEY GOT SOME NEW SIGNALS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, DAYBREAK AND CHIEF AND THEY GOT SOME RACKS FOR THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

BUT EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER, SO THERE WOULDN'T BE ANYTHING ELSE TO REPORT.

NEXT MEETING IS OCTOBER 22ND.

SO WE SHIFTED IT A LITTLE BIT TO ACCOMMODATE SOME SCHEDULES.

SO THANK YOU.

BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

SO BGF IS IN A KIND OF AN UNUSUAL CYCLE I DISCOVERED AND IT TURNS OUT THAT WE HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT, ALLISON BULLOCK AND SO SHE'S GOING TO START HER TERM.

COLLEEN O'NEILL IS THE PRESIDENT EMERITUS IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO SERVE AND HELP, BUT THEY'RE LIKE AT THE END OF THE CYCLE.

SEE, THEY'RE STARTING WITH THE NEW CYCLE AHEAD.

SO AT THE END OF THE CYCLE, IT TURNS OUT THAT THEY'VE BEEN CELEBRATING THEIR 30TH ANNIVERSARY ALL YEAR.

IN OCTOBER 5TH IS KIND OF THE APEX OF THIS CELEBRATION, AND YOU MAY NOT BE AWARE OF IT.

SO YOU CAN GO TO BGEF.

ORG BATTLE GROUND EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION.

THEY'RE A SUPPORT GROUP FOR THE DISTRICT.

THEY DO A LOT OF FUNDRAISING AND GOOD THINGS FOR THE DISTRICT, AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE HAVING A SILENT THREE DAY WELL, THEY'RE GOING TO BE HAVING A THREE DAY ONLINE AUCTION AS A PART OF THE FUNDRAISING AND THEN THEY'RE HAVING A SILENT AUCTION AT THE EVENT ON OCTOBER 5TH.

THEY'RE LOOKING FOR THE COMMUNITY TO COME AND BUY SEATS AT THE TABLE AND PARTICIPATE IN THESE AUCTIONS.

THERE'S A LOT OF REALLY AMAZING DEALS ON GETAWAY TRIPS AND THINGS THAT THEY'RE AUCTIONING OFF THAT HAVE BEEN DONATED AND SO I THINK YOU MIGHT DISCOVER THAT IF YOU GOT ONLINE AND LOOKED AT BGF.ORG, YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING.

SO JOIN US.

I'M GOING TO VOLUNTEER TO SET UP AND CLEAN UP BECAUSE THAT'S ALL I KNOW HOW TO DO KIND OF THING.

SO BUT WE'LL BE THERE.

THANK YOU. NEXT UP WE HAVE TOURS.

WE HAD OUR FIRST TOUR LAST WEEK.

IT'S ON. JULIA, DO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE TOUR AT ALL? PUTTING US ON THE SPOT.

THAT'S WHAT I DO BEST.

I FEEL LIKE MAYBE I SHOULDN'T SAY THIS OUT LOUD, BUT I'M GOING TO SAY IT ANYWAY.

THAT PLEASANT VALLEY IS MY FAVORITE MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THIS DISTRICT.

WELL, I GUESS THAT'S NOT A BAD THING, BUT I JUST.

WHEN I SAY THAT, IT FEELS LIKE I'M SAYING THAT I DON'T LIKE ANY OF THE OTHER ONES, AND THAT'S JUST NOT TRUE.

BUT I LOVE PLEASANT VALLEY.

I THINK WHAT THEY'RE DOING WITH, LIKE, THE ENVIRONMENT AT THAT SCHOOL.

LIKE IT'S JUST SO POSITIVE THERE AND I LOVE THAT.

LIKE, YOU WALK IN AND YOU'RE LIKE, WOW, I CAN LIKE THESE STUDENTS ARE HAPPY TO BE HERE.

THEY'RE KNOWN BY NAME BY LIKE PRETTY MUCH ALL THE STAFF AND LIKE, THEY'RE HAPPY TO TAKE YOU AROUND.

WE WERE ABLE TO WATCH THE FUN RUN AND IT WAS, OH, DUDE, THOSE KIDS ARE SO CUTE.

BUT LIKE, THAT WAS THE EASILY THE BIGGEST THING THAT STUCK OUT TO ME WAS JUST HOW, LIKE JUST HOW SUNNY IT IS THERE.

[00:45:10]

LIKE, NOT WHETHER LIKE THE PEOPLE THERE, THEY'RE SO AMAZING AND LIKE THE ADMIN TEAM IS WORKING HARD AND THEY HAVE SOME CHANGES AND LIKE HOW THEY TAKE ISSUES AND THEY JUST TAKE IT IN STRIDE AND THEY'RE WORKING TOWARDS PERMANENT SOLUTIONS INSTEAD OF JUST KIND OF PATCHING UP PROBLEMS AND I THINK THAT'S SO GOOD FOR THE WELFARE OF STUDENTS AND ALSO THE WELFARE OF THEIR STAFF AND YEAH, SO THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I HAVE TO SAY.

[INAUDIBLE] THANK YOU. IT WAS MY FIRST BOARD TOUR.

THIS WAS ONE OF MY FIRST AND I THINK IT WAS A GREAT ONE TO START WITH.

I WALKING IN THERE, I WAS KIND OF NOT KNOWING WHAT TO REALLY EXPECT WHEN LIKE DOING THESE TOURS, BUT JUST KNOWING THAT, KNOWING WHAT THEY'RE DOING AT PLEASANT VALLEY AND KNOWING THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON STUFF NOT JUST FOR THE STUDENTS, BUT FOR THE STAFF AND TRYING TO BRING THEM TOGETHER AND JUST CREATE THAT POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE ALL AROUND SCHOOL.

AND THEN ALSO HAVING SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR EMOTIONS, TO KNOW THAT THEY HAVE HELP IS SUCH A GREAT THING, ESPECIALLY DURING MIDDLE SCHOOL WHEN YOU'RE KIND OF GETTING CLOSER TO HIGH SCHOOL AND YOU'RE KIND OF GROWING UP AND JUST HAVING THOSE LIKE OPPORTUNITIES SO GREAT FOR THOSE STUDENTS AND THEN ALSO JUST GROWING UP IN SUCH A GREAT ATMOSPHERE AND JUST MAKING SURE THAT THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS ARE MEMORABLE AND THEY'RE MAKING LONG LASTING MEMORIES THERE.

SO THAT'S WHAT I FELT REALLY GOOD.

PRETTY COOL. DEBBIE, DID YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOARD TOUR? YES, I MET ACTUALLY SPOKE TO FOUR STUDENTS AND WANTED TO GET THEIR IMPRESSIONS AND THEIR THOUGHTS, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY ALL FELT VERY SUPPORTED.

THEY'RE ALL DIFFERENT AGES.

THEY FELT VERY SUPPORTED AND LOVED THEIR COMMUNITY AT THE SCHOOL.

THEY HAD THEIR BRANDING, WHICH WAS ALREADY DISCUSSED.

THEY HAVE A SENSE OF BELONGING TOGETHER, EMPOWERING ACHIEVEMENT.

RED AND GREEN TEAMS WERE COMPETING, AND THEY HAVE A DREAM TEAM THAT KEEPS THE KIDS OFF DRUGS.

THEY SAID THEY TALKED A LOT ABOUT CHARACTER STRONG REALLY INTO THE PATRIOTS AND WE GOT, LIKE, BUTTONS AND STICKERS. SO THEY'RE REALLY TRYING TO USE SEL CHARACTER STRONG, PATRIOT PLACE.

SAFE. RESPECTABLE.

RESPONSIBLE. THEY TALKED A LOT ABOUT THE PATRIOT BUCKS.

AND THEY HAD THIS REALLY AWESOME STORE THAT THEY SET UP FOR THE KIDS TO BE ABLE TO GO INTO AND IF THAT PARTICULAR DAY WE WERE THERE, THE KIDS WERE GOING TO BE ABLE TO USE THEIR BUCKS AND THE ONE THAT I SPOKE TO, SHE SAID SHE HAD 33 BUCKS TO SPEND.

SHE WAS SUPER EXCITED AND WAS LIKE LOOKING AT EVERYTHING ABOUT HOW SHE WAS GOING TO SPEND.

I DON'T WANT TO TAKE ALL EVERYBODY ELSE'S TIME, BUT JUST ONE THING THAT, OF COURSE, I WAS SUPER INTERESTED IN.

THEIR SEL ROOM HAD 3500 VISITS LAST YEAR, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS PRETTY INCREDIBLE AND SHE DID SHARE WITH ME THAT THEY DID HAVE FIVE SUICIDAL IDEATIONS, FIVE KIDS THAT JUST WEREN'T HANDLING THINGS WELL, AND SHE WAS ABLE TO HELP THEM AND SUPPORT THEM AND TALK WITH THEM AND GET THEM SOME PROFESSIONAL THERAPY, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS AMAZING.

SO WAS REALLY GLAD TO HEAR THAT THE KIDS ARE SUPPORTED AND THAT'S A LOT OF VISITS FOR THAT SIZE OF A MIDDLE OF A MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY AWESOME AND THE WOMAN, I DON'T REMEMBER HER NAME, BUT SHE IS JUST, LIKE, JUST SO SHE'S LIKE, THE ONLY WAY I CAN DESCRIBE HER, SHE'S, LIKE, CUSHY.

SHE JUST REMINDS ME. SHE REMINDS ME OF MARSHMALLOWS BECAUSE SHE'S JUST.

SHE'S. I'M SURE SHE'S SOMEONE THAT THEY CAN JUST.

THEY JUST FEEL SO COMFORTABLE WITH HER AND SHE'S SO CARING AND GENUINE AND TRANSPARENT.

AND I KNOW THAT THE KIDS PROBABLY FEEL THAT AND THAT'S PROBABLY WHY THEY THEY RETURN TO IT SO OFTEN TO FEEL THAT SUPPORT.

SO SUPER ENCOURAGING FOR OUR KIDS.

GOOD. I LIKED THE PIECE.

DEBBIE ASKED A LOT OF QUESTIONS WHEN WE WERE IN THE SEL ROOM, AND SHE ONE OF THE QUESTIONS SHE ASKED WAS, WHAT ARE THE TOP THREE REASONS, YOU KNOW, ESTIMATE WHY KIDS COME HERE? THERE WAS ONLY ONE TOP REASON ANXIETY AND THAT'S WHAT THEY WORK ON THE MOST AND IT WAS JUST SHE'S RIGHT.

IT WAS SO WELCOMING AND WARMING THERE AND WE EVEN JOKED WE NEEDED A ROOM LIKE THAT FOR ADULTS.

BUT THAT'S A WHOLE OTHER ISSUE.

WHAT I LIKED IT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE TO SEE WHAT AARON THOMPSON AND MR.

[00:50:07]

BROTHERS ARE DOING.

THEIR GOAL IS TO HAVE EVERY STUDENT KNOWN BY NAME, STRENGTH AND NEED.

THAT'S A BIG TASK AND THEY'RE DOING IT AND IT'S THE COLLABORATION AND THE TWO OF THEM, THEY JUST CLICK AND IT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE.

ONE THING I DIDN'T KNOW THAT GOT STARTED.

I THINK THEY SAID LAST YEAR, CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG.

EVERY STUDENT GETS A HUG BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND SPRING BREAK VACATIONS.

BECAUSE THEY WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT NOT EVERY STUDENT ENJOYS BREAK AND I JUST THOUGHT, YOU KNOW, WE GET SO EXCITED FOR SPRING BREAK.

WE GET SO EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS BREAK AND IT WAS SUCH A GREAT REMINDER THAT THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT PIECE.

MY OTHER TAKEAWAY THAT I WROTE DOWN WE TALK A LOT ABOUT SAFETY HERE.

MR. JOLMA HAS TALKED A LOT ABOUT SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS AROUND THE DISTRICT FENCING, YOU KNOW, SECURING OUR ENTRANCES.

WE HEAR A LOT FROM HIM AND WHAT WE'RE DOING AND SUPPORTING FOR FACILITIES, BUT WE HAVEN'T REALLY HEARD A LOT FROM SCHOOLS AND I KNOW IT'S OUT THERE, BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THEY WORKED WITH FACILITIES ON RECENTLY IS THEY'RE GETTING SOME FENCING ADDED THAT CONNECTS TO THE SCHOOL ITSELF.

SO THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY IN AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY INTUITIVE TO KNOW THEIR GROUNDS AND TO KNOW, YOU KNOW, WHERE THEIR POINTS OF WEAKNESS WERE AND THEY TOOK THAT INITIATIVE AND THEY WENT TO FACILITIES AND WERE MAKING OUR, SCHOOL SAFER AND THE LAST THING I WROTE DOWN IS THAT THEY'RE ALSO GIVING SNACKS TO TEACHERS, WHICH I THINK IS FANTASTIC, AND NOT JUST AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT THEY TAKE CARE OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOL, TOO. SO NOT ONLY ARE THEY TAKING CARE OF STUDENTS, THEY'RE TAKING CARE OF EACH OTHER.

SO DID YOU HAVE MORE TO ADD? YEAH. I WAS GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE SAFETY AS WELL AND TO YOUR POINT, IT'S GREAT THAT THEY KNOW THEIR BUILDING, BUT I ALSO WANT TO GIVE KUDOS OUT TO THE FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS, BECAUSE THEY SAID THAT WHEN THEY ASKED THEM TO COME OUT, THEY WERE OUT THE NEXT DAY AND THEY'RE GOING TO PUT THAT FENCING UP QUICKLY.

SO THAT'S GREAT. I WAS TAKEN WITH THEIR EMPHASIS.

THEY'RE DOING A LOT OF GREAT WORK WITH PLCS, BUT THEY'VE STARTED A NEW SYSTEM WHERE AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH.

THEY'VE DEVELOPED CREWS, AND SO THE CREWS, C R E W S THE CREWS ARE A COMBINATION OF THEIR PLCS.

SO THEY HAVE ONE FIFTH GRADE TEACHER, ONE SIXTH GRADE TEACHER, ONE SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER, ONE EIGHTH GRADE TEACHER, ONE SPECIALIST, AND ONE FROM THE SPED DEPARTMENT.

SO NOT ONLY ARE THEY WORKING ON A REGULAR BASIS WITH THEIR OWN GRADE LEVEL, BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THEY GET TO WORK WITH MEMBERS OF OTHER TEAMS AND SEE HOW IT ALL KIND OF FITS TOGETHER, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY IN TERMS OF NARROWING THEIR I MEAN, WIDENING, BROADENING THEIR PERSPECTIVE ON THINGS.

SO I JUST WANTED TO POINT THAT OUT.

OVERALL WONDERFUL TOUR.

YEAH. I THINK EVERYBODY HIT ON, ON JUST ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT I COULD POSSIBLY THINK OF.

THE ONLY THING I WOULD ADD, IT WAS GREAT FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE SCIENCE CURRICULUM AT WORK IN THE SIXTH GRADE CLASSROOM.

IT WAS UP ON THE SCREEN AND I HAD NOT SEEN THE VISUALS.

IT WAS A LESSON ON CELLS AND THE PARTS OF CELLS, AND IT WAS SUCH A VIBRANT VIDEO THAT THEY HAD PAUSED WHEN WE CAME IN THAT I JUST IT, I THOUGHT, OH BOY, IF I'D HAVE HAD THAT KIND OF MATERIAL WHEN I WAS A KID, I PROBABLY COULD HAVE TAKEN TO SCIENCE A LITTLE BETTER.

BUT IT WAS PRETTY IMPRESSIVE MATERIALS THAT THE KIDS WERE USING AND THEY WERE SO ENGAGED.

WE WERE PROBABLY STANDING IN THE CLASSROOM FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES BEFORE THEY ACTUALLY REALIZED WE WERE THERE, SO THAT WAS GOOD TOO.

SO I THOUGHT THE NEW FORMAT WORKED WELL.

WE KNOW MARY WAS BUSY WITH HER LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND IT WAS I THINK IT WAS TERRY'S BI-WEEK.

NO, I WAS UP [INAUDIBLE] ABLE TO ATTEND.

THAT'S RIGHT. TED WAS GOING TO TRY TO STEP IN, BUT HE GOT CALLED AWAY.

BUT. SO IT WASN'T A BIG DEAL BECAUSE WE ALREADY HAD TWO BOARD MEMBERS THAT WERE GOING TO ATTEND.

WE HAD BOTH OF OUR STUDENT REPS OUT.

WE HAD SHELLEY AND I WERE THERE, SO THEY FELT THEY CERTAINLY FELT LIKE WE HAD PROVIDED ENOUGH ATTENTION TO THEM.

SO KUDOS TO MADAM PRESIDENT.

A GOOD IDEA ON THOSE THAT CHANGE FOR THE BOARD TOURS.

THANK YOU, MR. LACOUNT. MR. DRAKE, YOU WERE ALSO THERE. DID YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO ADD? THAT'S HOW YOU PUT THEM ON THE SPOT.

YEAH, I A LITTLE BIT OF ECHOING WHAT WAS SHARED EARLIER.

I WALKED AWAY RECOGNIZING THE TEAMWORK OF AARON AND AUSTIN, THE TWO ADMINISTRATORS, AND THE IMPACT THEY'RE HAVING ON STAFF AND STUDENTS AND THOSE TWO HAVE

[00:55:06]

PROVEN TO BE A REALLY SOLID TEAM.

THANK YOU. I'D SAY THE SAME THING.

I FEEL LIKE PRINCIPALS HAVE A BIGGER IMPACT THAN ANYONE ELSE ON THE CULTURE OF THE BUILDING, AND I THINK THE PARTNERSHIP WITH AUSTIN AND AARON IS SHOWING THAT TO BE TRUE.

THANK YOU. THAT SOUNDS LIKE TWO EX PRINCIPALS TALKING THERE.

ALL RIGHT, WELL, THAT WRAPS UP OUR TOUR'S REPORT.

WE OUR NEXT ONE IS NEXT MONTH.

AGAIN WE'LL GET TO THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER.

SO WE'LL MOVE ON TO DIRECTORS REPORTS.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING THEY WANT TO SHARE? I JUST NEED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND BOARD PREP ON THE 9TH OF SEPTEMBER, SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO HAVE SOMEONE STAND IN FOR ME.

I WILL BE HERE FOR THE MEETING ON THE 14TH.

YEAH, IT'S A GOOD OPPORTUNITY IF TERRY OR DEBBIE, IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND BOARD PREP.

ON OCTOBER 9TH? [INAUDIBLE]. DEBBIE, I'LL DEFER TO YOU IF YOU CAN'T, I WILL, BUT I'M SORRY.

I WON'T BE HERE.

OH, OKAY. WELL, I GUESS THAT'S IT.

OKAY. WHAT DAY IS IT AGAIN? WE'LL SEND YOU AN INVITE. THANKS.

WE HAD OUR FIRST CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING.

I HAD TO ATTEND THAT.

LOTS OF FAMILIAR FACES AND LOTS OF NEW FACES.

THAT WAS EXCITING.

A GREAT PRESENTATION.

SOME GREAT, REALLY GOOD WORK SESSIONS WITHIN THE GROUPS JUST TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER A LITTLE BIT BETTER.

HAVE SOME FUN.

KIND OF WENT OVER THE PROCESS OF THE MEETINGS AND PROBABLY TAKING AWAY WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT.

OKAY AND SO AND THEN A GREAT PRESENTATION BY SCOTT MCDANIEL ON ZERO.

ZERO AND WHICH IS KIND OF A GUN DETECTION SYSTEM AND IT WAS JUST IT WAS VERY MIXED FEEDBACK ON IT.

YOU KNOW, ARE WE READY TO GO THIS FAR? WHAT ARE WE DOING UP TO THIS POINT? BUT I THINK IT'S I'M.

I WAS GRATEFUL TO HEAR THAT WE'RE THINKING ABOUT IT.

RIGHT. WE WANT TO PROTECT OUR KIDS AND I THINK THAT WAS THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAY I HAD FROM THAT WAS THAT WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING TO MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE SAFE.

SO WHICHEVER PATH THE DIRECTION THE DISTRICT MAY GO, I FEEL LIKE WE ALL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT IT AND I LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING OTHER IDEAS AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT MAY COME BEFORE US.

SO. DID YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING? I ATTENDED IT TOO.

I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY ENLIGHTENING.

I FELT LIKE EVERYONE THAT WAS THERE WAS ON THE SAME PAGE AND THE WHOLE SAFETY PIECE IS SUPER IMPORTANT, I THINK, TO EVERYONE IN THE ROOM.

I THINK WE ALL ACKNOWLEDGE THAT AS FAR AS THE PROCESS OR THE PROCEDURE THAT WE'RE GOING TO GO.

LIKE YOU SAID, JACKIE, YOU KNOW, THAT'S TO BE SEEN.

BUT IT'S A GOOD IT'S SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

YEAH. IT'S GOOD TO BE OPEN MINDED.

THERE'S SOME INTERESTING TECHNOLOGY THAT'S OUT THERE NOW.

YEAH. WE HEARD IN THE GEORGIA SHOOTING SITUATION THERE'S THE ID CARDS THAT THE TEACHERS COULD PRESS AUTOMATICALLY TRIGGERING A LOCKDOWN AND SO THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THAT TECHNOLOGY AND WE LEARNED THAT THERE ACTUALLY IS A SCHOOL DISTRICT IN OUR AREA WHO'S USING IT.

RIDGEFIELD. SO WE'RE LOOKING AT WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT THESE NEWER TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES THAT HAVE BEEN MADE.

THE GUN DETECTION SOFTWARE WE'RE LOOKING AT IS CALLED ZEROIZE, AND IT USES SOME AI ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE HARDWARE THAT IS ABLE TO DETECT GUNS AND, BUT THE GUNS HAVE TO BE BRANDISHED IN ORDER FOR IT TO SEE AND IT ACTUALLY LOCKS IN ON THE CAMERA SYSTEMS THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY IN YOUR SCHOOLS AND SO IT'S THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN THAT. BUT, YOU KNOW, IT'S JUST JUST THIS IDEA THAT WE ARE CONTINUALLY LOOKING FOR WAYS THAT WE CAN INCREASE THE SAFETY OF OUR DISTRICT.

YEAH AND WE'RE GOING TO DO THAT MEETING.

I ACTUALLY WENT AND READ A STUDY THAT THEY SAID ONE OF THE BEST DETERRENTS IS THE SRO, THE YES, WHICH WE HAVE FOLKS THAT THE GENTLEMEN AND WOMEN THAT ARE ON AND I THINK THEY WOULD SAY THAT IN THE ATLANTA INCIDENT, THE SRO WAS THE FIRST PERSON ON SCENE.

AS SOON AS THE SRO SHOWED UP, THE GUNMAN STOPPED AND GAVE UP.

SO I AGREE WITH YOU.

SO I THINK THAT'S A REALLY GOOD INVESTMENT.

MAYBE MORE SO THAN THE AI THING THAT MAKES ME FEEL BETTER THAT WE HAD.

WE NOW HAVE THE OFFICER AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

[01:00:03]

YES. THE OTHER REPORT I WOULD GIVE IS WE TED AND I AND DENNY AND SHELLY AND KEVIN ATTENDED ANOTHER MEETING WITH THE CITY OF BATTLE GROUND ABOUT THE FIFTH STREET ROAD PROJECT.

THEY DID TELL US THAT THEY DO WANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH IT.

THEY DO WANT A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SCHOOL.

THEY FELT THAT.

BUT 2026 IS WHEN THEY'RE REALLY LOOKING TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT ROAD AND JUST FOR THE TIMELINE I DO KEEP ASKING FOR A WORK SESSION BETWEEN BOTH THE CITY AND US SO WE CAN ALL LEARN FROM EACH OTHER AND WE WERE CAREFUL TO LET THEM KNOW THAT WHILE WE'RE ALL TOGETHER, LEARNING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEY'RE SHARING.

ULTIMATELY, ANY DECISION IS A DECISION OF THE BOARD AND SO THE BOARD NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO LEARN AS WELL AND SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE HOPING FOR A WORK SESSION SOMETIME SOON.

I THINK THAT ANOTHER KEY POINT OUT OF THAT IS THAT THERE'S STILL A LOT OF DESIGN CONFLICTS THAT THEY HAVE IN PLACE RIGHT NOW WITH REGARD TO DISTRICT PROPERTY AND ADJACENT AREAS, AND HOW IT MIGHT IMPACT THOSE BOTH WITH ROAD AND TRAFFIC FLOW, PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AND I IT POTENTIAL IMPACTS TO OUR FIELDS AND MAKING SURE THAT THE RIGHT HEALTH SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS ARE IN PLACE BEFORE THEY ALLOW TRAFFIC ON ROADS WHERE THERE'S ADJACENT TO A PLAYGROUND AND ALSO WITH DISTRICT FUTURE IMPROVEMENT PLANS THAT WE HAVE FOR FACILITIES AND THINGS LIKE THAT AND GROWTH IN THE FUTURE AND MAKING SURE THAT THE THEIR CITY IS NOT PUTTING SOMETHING IN A LOCATION THAT WE MIGHT POTENTIALLY WANT TO PUT ANOTHER BUILDING FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE PROGRAM OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

SO THOSE ARE STILL BEING IDENTIFIED AND ADJUSTED TO.

SO THEY STILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF WORK TO DO ON THEIR DESIGN.

TO CLARIFY, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A PROPOSED ROAD.

IS THAT WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT? YEAH. OKAY.

THAT'S ALL I NEED TO KNOW. YEAH. WE GO RIGHT OUTSIDE THIS BUILDING, ACTUALLY.

OKAY. CUT THROUGH THIS FIELD.

THAT'S FINE. YEAH.

PARKWAY. YEAH.

BETWEEN PARKWAY WOULD CONNECT PARKWAY TO 503.

THERE'S ALSO A BUNCH OF COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS THAT THEY HAVE TO COME UP WITH DOT AS WELL.

SO THE IMPACT AND THE 503 AND HOW THEY'D HAVE TO HAVE A DESIGN DECELERATION LANE FOR ENTERING THAT ROAD OFF OF THE 503 AND THEN ALSO ENTERING ONTO THE 503 FROM THAT ROAD AND THEN WHAT OTHER KIND OF HEALTH SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS THEY WOULD HAVE TO INTEGRATE INTO THAT? AND WHETHER THAT'S CHANGING THE SPEED LIMIT ON THAT SECTION ON THE 503 ADDING SPEED BUMPS ROUNDABOUT THEY TALKED ABOUT AROUND.

WELL, I THINK THAT ONE [INAUDIBLE].

SO THAT WOULD ALREADY ACT AS A DECELERATION SECTION.

SO AND I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHAT THAT SECTION OF ROAD LOOKS LIKE AT, YOU KNOW, 4:00.

SO I'M NOT OVERLY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SPEED BECAUSE I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE AT A STANDSTILL ANYWAY.

SO HOPEFULLY THE ROUNDABOUT WILL HELP WITH THAT.

BUT ANYWAYS, THE POINT IS, THAT THERE IS STILL A LOT OF DESIGN GOING ON.

THEY INDICATED THAT THEY STILL HAVE LOTS OF WORK AROUND AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS, AND WORKING WITH THE ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT IN THAT AREA.

RIGHT, AND WITH TO DENNY'S POINT ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL SIDE IS IT WAS SOMETHING I KEYED ON PRETTY QUICKLY WAS THE STORM DRAINAGE SYSTEM.

THERE'S A LOT OF SHEET FLOW BEING GENERATED OUT OF THAT NEW ROAD SYSTEM AND WITH THE IMPACTS TO OUR ADJACENT FIELDS THAT ALREADY HAVE WATERING, YOU KNOW, PONDING PROBLEMS AND THINGS OF THAT AND WHAT SYSTEM THEY'RE TYING INTO AND WHAT KIND OF IMPROVEMENTS THEY'RE GOING TO MAKE TO THOSE TO ACCOMMODATE THAT NEW AMOUNT OF WATER FLOW.

SO AGAIN, IT GOES BACK TO THE STILL SOME ENGINEERING THAT THEY HAVE TO DO.

I'M NOT SURE WHAT YOUR INTENT WAS IN BRINGING IT UP.

WE TALKED ABOUT IT BEFORE LAST MEETING.

IT CAME UP ALSO.

BUT THE MORE WE TALK ABOUT IT, THE MORE I BECOME CONCERNED THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT SOMETHING THAT INVOLVES A LOT FOR US, AND SO HOPEFULLY THEY'RE NOT THINKING THAT THEY WOULD HAVE YOU GUYS BE RESPONSIBLE TO PRESENT TO US KIND OF A THING.

WE TOLD WE WERE CLEAR AND, YOU KNOW, TO YOUR POINT, TERRY, I THINK THAT MAYBE, MAYBE THAT WAS IN THE BACK OF THEIR MIND, BUT WE MADE IT CLEAR THAT'S NOT THE WAY IT WORKS.

I WOULD THINK IT SHOULD BE SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.

THEY SPEND A LOT OF MONEY IN PREP AND THEN THEY COME TO, WELL, WE'VE ALREADY SPENT A LOT OF MONEY, SO YOU GUYS GOT TO GO ALONG WITH THIS.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT HOW IS THAT GOING TO IMPACT? I MEAN, BECAUSE I KNOW THIS SCHOOL CAN'T BE USED FOR A SCHOOL, RIGHT? SO IS THAT A GOOD THING? IS THAT WHAT I'M UNDERSTANDING? THIS IS A GOOD THING.

I DON'T I YEAH, I MEAN, YEAH I'LL SAY THIS.

[01:05:04]

THERE ARE PROPERTY OWNERS ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THAT ROAD THAT HAVE CONCERN WITH ENCROACHMENT INTO THEIR PROPERTY LINES, BUT THE CITY HAS GONE OUT OF THEIR WAY TO BRING IT MORE INTO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TO AVOID ANY POTENTIAL FOR EASEMENTS OR EMINENT DOMAIN OF RESIDENT PROPERTIES.

IT'S JUST NOW THERE'S A THROUGHFARE RIGHT BEHIND THEIR HOUSE.

SO THERE'S WHAT WAS IT 2 OR 3 YEARS AGO? THIS WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION BY SOME CITIZENS THAT HAD, I THINK THE CITY HAD REACHED OUT TO OR PUT A PUBLIC NOTICE OUT THAT THEY WERE DOING SOME DESIGN ON.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT KEYED US IN AND WE STARTED MEETING WITH THE CITY OVER THE YEARS ON THIS.

BUT THE REASON IT'S IMPORTANT TO US IS BECAUSE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ROAD, THAT'S A LOT OF SQUARE FOOTAGE OF DISTRICT PROPERTY THAT'S GOING TO BE NOW A ROAD. SO WE HAVE TO, AS A DISTRICT, RELEASE THAT PROPERTY TO THEM, AND THERE'S A LOT OF DETAILS TO WORK OUT FOR COMPENSATION.

YEAH, MAYBE A NEW SCHOOL BUILDING.

NOT THAT KIND OF MONEY.

THAT AIN'T GOING TO BE THAT HIGH A VALUE I WISH, BUT, WELL, YOU KNOW.

OKAY, WHATEVER. THERE'S LEGAL ISSUES THERE.

IT'S CALLED NEGOTIATION.

RIGHT? YEAH.

BUT 1 MILLION, 80 MILLION IF THEY WANT THE.

YEAH. THE FAIR VALUE OF THE PROPERTY.

YEAH. AS LONG AS IT'S CHEAPER THAN THE LEGAL BATTLES WITH EMINENT DOMAIN.

RIGHT. YEAH.

SO ANYWAY, THERE'S A LOT TO THIS PROJECT.

IT IS GOING TO BE A MULTI-YEAR PROJECT AND THESE GUYS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR A VERY LONG TIME.

SO THEY ALSO ASKED FOR SOONER THAN LATER TO MEET WITH US.

THEY'D LIKE TO GET THE SCHOOL BOARD ON BOARD PER SE.

HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN TALKING ABOUT THIS? YEARS? WELL, IT'S THE FOURTH PART OF THE FOUR POINT PLAN, WHICH WAS.

SO THE FIRST PART, NUMBER ONE, WAS WHEN THEY PUT THAT ROAD BACK ACROSS THE STREET HERE, YOU KNOW, GOES IN BACK BEHIND THE FRED MEYER.

YES. RIGHT OFF OF THAT WAS ONE.

YEAH. NUMBER TWO WAS WHEN THEY CHANGED THE THEY CLOSED THAT.

REMEMBER YOU USED TO BE ABLE TO THERE WAS A STOPLIGHT BY THE GAS STATION AT FRED MEYER.

THE FRED MEYER THERE WAS A STOPLIGHT THERE.

IT USED TO BE ABLE TO AND THEN THEY PUT THE ROAD DIVIDER IN, AND NOW YOU CAN'T GO THAT WAY AND YOU HAVE TO GO.

NUMBER THREE WAS WHEN THEY IMPROVED THE INTERSECTION, THEY ADDED THE TURNING LANES IN EACH DIRECTION.

SO THAT 502 AND 503 AND THEN THIS IS THE LAST STAGE OF THAT FOUR POINT PROJECT, WHICH IS TO PUT.

SO THE IMAGINE, YOU KNOW, WHERE THE ROAD WHERE YOU TURN OFF INTO THE FRED MEYER BEHIND THE FRED MEYER, THAT'S WHERE THIS ROAD WOULD LINE UP.

THOSE TWO ROADS WOULD LINE UP THERE.

YOU CAN'T CROSS, YOU CAN'T CROSS.

BUT THAT'S WHERE THEY WOULD LINE UP.

SO THIS IS THE FOURTH PART OF THAT.

SO IT'S BEEN ONGOING FOR SOME TIME ON THE CITY'S DIME, RIGHT.

SO IT'S BEEN ONGOING FOR A WHILE, BUT THEY'VE JUST HELD OFF ON THIS AND, YOU KNOW, TO THEIR CREDIT, THERE IS SOMETHING TO THE FACT THAT THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THEY APPROACH THE BOARD THAT THEY IF THEY WOULD HAVE APPROACHED THE BOARD THREE YEARS AGO.

IT'S AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT BOARD NOW.

SO THAT'S THEIR POINT AND YOU KNOW, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A I DON'T THINK WE HAVE ANY BOARD MEMBERS COMING UP FOR ELECTION THIS NOVEMBER, BUT WE HAVE THREE BOARD MEMBERS COMING UP FOR ELECTION NEXT NOVEMBER AND WHETHER OR NOT THOSE INDIVIDUALS RUN OR WHETHER WE GET NEW BOARD MEMBERS WILL BE ANOTHER FACTOR.

SO THEY WANT TO BE CAREFUL TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE TALKING TO THE PEOPLE WHEN THE DECISION NEEDS TO BE MADE.

AND WE DID MAKE THAT DECISION BE BINDING.

IF WE MADE THE DECISION.

NOW WOULDN'T THAT BE BINDING? BUT THAT'S LEGAL COUNSEL.

I'M SURE A NEW BOARD CAN COME IN AT ANY TIME AND, YOU KNOW, BIND IT.

THE CONTRACT. YEAH.

YOU KNOW, IF THEY'RE NOT READY TO MOVE TO FINAL STAGE, WE MADE IT CLEAR TO THEM THAT THEIR TIMELINE IS LIKE.

LIKE WE GIVE YOU GUYS A YEAR TO FIGURE THIS OUT AND BRING IT TO US TO MAKE IT.

WE'RE HOPING THAT BY THE SPRING OF THIS YEAR, THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO COME TO US WITH A AND HAVE A MEETING.

A TRUE PROPOSAL.

YEAH. WOULD THERE BE PUBLIC COMMENT ON THIS TOO? NOT ON OUR PART.

ON THE CITY'S PART? RIGHT. ON THE CITY'S PART.

OBVIOUSLY, CITIZENS ARE FREE TO COMMENT, THOUGH, FOR US AS WELL.

DURING A DURING A BOARD MEETING AND ONE OF THE THINGS THEY TALKED ABOUT WAS REALLY THE PURPOSE OF THIS GROUP OF US GETTING TOGETHER WITH THEM NOW IS TO KIND OF FINE TUNE IT. SO WHEN THEY DO MEET WITH US AS A BOARD, THEY'RE PRESENTING US VALID OPTIONS, RIGHT? SO THEY AREN'T JUST LIKE SAYING, WELL, WE COULD DO THIS OR WE MIGHT DO THIS.

THEY'RE SAYING, HERE'S WHAT WE CAN DO.

[01:10:02]

RIGHT. SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE TALKED ABOUT WAS PUTTING UP FENCING ALONG ONE OF THE FIELDS.

RIGHT. BECAUSE THIS RUNS ADJACENT TO A FIELD.

SO NOT BUT THEN IT WAS NOT ONLY FENCING.

YOU ALSO NEED A GUARDRAIL BECAUSE WE DON'T NEED A CAR GOING THROUGH FENCING.

WE NEED A CAR TO HIT A GUARDRAIL AND PROTECT THE FENCING, WHICH IS PROTECTING POTENTIALLY STUDENTS.

RIGHT. SO TO EVEN BOLSTER THAT TO JACKIE'S POINT IS WHEN IT GOES ADJACENT TO CAM, NOW YOU HAVE A SOUND ISSUE AS WELL.

SO NOW YOU HAVE A SOUND BARRIER WALL BIG CMU WALL.

SO YEAH, THERE'S A LOT OF FACTORS.

AND ACTUALLY FROM A CONSTRUCTABILITY STANDPOINT, THIS IS ACTUALLY NOT AN UNINTELLIGENT WAY TO APPROACH THIS.

THEY'VE PARTNERED WITH US EARLY ON AND ALLOWED US TO IDENTIFY ALL THOSE CONFLICTS AND ISSUES THAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE, BECAUSE WE WERE PROBABLY THE PRIME STAKEHOLDER IN THIS WHOLE PROJECT.

SO GETTING US INVOLVED EARLY IS HIGHLY INTELLIGENT WAY TO GO ABOUT DOING IT.

SO AND THEY'RE CATCHING A LOT OF ISSUES AND CONFLICTS THAT THEY WOULDN'T HAVE IF THEY JUST BROUGHT IT TO US.

SAID, HEY, WE WANT TO DO THIS.

IT WAS A PRODUCTIVE MEETING.

IT WAS GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD.

THEY LISTENED TO US. AND KEVIN WAS ALSO THERE, WHICH IS CRITICAL.

SO ANYTHING ELSE FOR DIRECTOR'S REPORTS? GOOD CONVERSATION.

ALL RIGHT.

WE'VE HOGGED UP ENOUGH OF THE MEETING.

[7. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

TURN IT OVER TO SUPERINTENDENT.

THANK YOU. I WAS GOING TO TALK ABOUT CEC, BUT THANK YOU FOR COVERING THAT.

THAT'S PERFECT. I JUST WANTED TO BRING UP A COUPLE OF THINGS.

WE HAD MENTIONED THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE DOING A SURVEY.

THE SURVEY IS GOING TO COVER THREE AREAS.

IT'S GOING TO COVER CELL PHONES AND CELL PHONE, POTENTIAL CELL PHONE POLICIES FOR THE DISTRICT.

THAT'S A BIG TOPIC RIGHT NOW IN SCHOOLS.

IT'S GOING TO LOOK AT START TIMES.

MANY SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE MADE THEIR HIGH SCHOOL START TIMES LATER AND THEIR PRIMARY START TIMES EARLIER BASED ON SLEEP STUDIES.

SO WE'RE GOING TO ASK QUESTIONS AROUND THAT AND THEN THE THIRD TOPIC AS PROMISED, WE'RE GOING TO ASK OUR FAMILIES WHAT THEIR FEELINGS ARE ABOUT OUR LIBRARY POLICY AND OUR LIBRARY MATERIALS AND THAT SURVEY IS GOING TO GO OUT ON SEPTEMBER 30TH.

SO THAT'S NEXT WEEK, MONDAY, AND IT WILL RUN FOR SEVERAL WEEKS.

I BELIEVE IT WILL RUN FOR TWO AND A HALF TO THREE WEEKS, SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

SO THROUGH THE 18TH OF OCTOBER.

SO IT'LL RUN FOR FOR THREE FOR THREE FULL WEEKS ALMOST AND THEN WE'LL COLLECT INFORMATION.

THAT'S GOING TO BE PART OF WHAT WE PRESENT TO YOU AT THE END OF OCTOBER, WHEN WE COME BACK WITH THE PROCEDURAL UPDATES FOR THE LIBRARY MATERIALS POLICY.

THE OTHER THING I MENTIONED IS THAT THE MENTIONED IN THE WORK SESSION, THAT WE DID GET OUR FINAL NOTIFICATION FROM WSSDA THAT OUR PRESENTATION WILL BE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST.

SO WE'RE HAPPY WITH THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST.

HOWEVER, IT WILL BE FROM 4:20 IN THE AFTERNOON UNTIL 5:20 IN THE AFTERNOON.

SO HOPEFULLY SOMEBODY COMES TO THAT AND THEN THE LAST THREE, THIS IS KIND OF TAGGING ON TO WHAT MARY TALKED ABOUT.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE WORK THAT OUR ORGANIZATIONS HAVE DONE TOGETHER WITH BUDGET PRIORITIES.

THEY'RE CALLING THEM THE BIG THREE AND FOR THE FIRST TIME THAT ANYBODY CAN REMEMBER, ALL OF THE EDUCATIONAL INTEREST GROUPS ARE ALIGNED. SO WSSDA, WIAA, AWSP, OSPI.

TYPICALLY, THEY COME TO THE LEGISLATURE WITH THEIR OWN BUDGET PRIORITIES, AND OBVIOUSLY THERE'S SOME OVERLAP.

BUT THEN WE HAVE COMPETING INTERESTS THAT ARE GOING, AND IT'S HARD TO GET THE ATTENTION OF OUR LEGISLATORS.

THIS YEAR THEY'VE COME WITH THE BIG THREE, AND THE BIG THREE ARE NUMBER ONE IS THE FULLY FUNDING OF SPECIAL EDUCATION.

NUMBER TWO IS AN INCREASE IN M SOC MONEY, WHICH IS THE MATERIAL SUPPLIES AND OPERATING COSTS AND NUMBER THREE IS AN INCREASE IN TRANSPORTATION FUNDING.

SO THOSE ARE THE THREE BIG PRIORITIES.

ONE OF THE REASONS THEY CHOSE THESE PRIORITIES IS BECAUSE BY FUNDING THESE THREE, ALL DISTRICTS WOULD BE IMPACTED SIGNIFICANTLY VERSUS, YOU KNOW, A BIG DISTRICT VERSUS A SMALL DISTRICT AND HOW THAT MIGHT IMPACT AND OSPI JUST CAME OUT WITH THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS AND IT'S VERY MUCH IN LINE, WHICH IS THE FIRST TIME WE'VE BEEN IN LINE WITH SUPERINTENDENT REYKDAL.

SO GOOD INFORMATION.

I'LL SEND OUT SOME LINKS FOR ALL OF YOU SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THAT INFORMATION.

I THINK I SENT ONE OUT EARLIER ABOUT THE BUDGET, THE FUNDING, ONE THAT WAS DONE.

[01:15:04]

BUT I'LL SEND THAT OUT AGAIN.

SO THOSE ARE MY THREE THINGS.

I WANT TO TALK TO YOU. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLEY.

CAN I HAVE A QUICK QUESTION? YEAH, SURE. IS THAT ONLINE? YES, IT WILL BE AND WE'LL BE PUBLICIZING IT.

IT'LL BE ONLINE THROUGH THOUGHTEXCHANGE, AND IT'S OPEN TO ANYBODY.

IS THAT ON THE WEBSITE? WE WILL BE SENDING OUT THE INFORMATION AND THE LINK WILL BE ON THE WEBSITE.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU. SO MANY THINGS HAPPENING IN TEACHING AND LEARNING ABOUT NOW OF COURSE, WITH THE SCHOOL GETTING OFF TO A START, THERE IS A LOT GOING ON AROUND THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM.

TRAININGS FOR STAFF.

ADDITIONAL. GETTING ADDITIONAL PIECES OF THE CURRICULUM PULLED TOGETHER.

ALSO OUR ACADEMIES THAT WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING, SOME PLANNING FOR THOSE AND GETTING THOSE OFF THE GROUND.

THAT WORK'S GOING WELL.

YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE AWARE.

OUR DANIELSON FRAMEWORK, OUR TEACHER EVALUATION FRAMEWORK, HAS BEEN REVAMPED AND [INAUDIBLE] HAS BEEN WORKING ON ALL OF THE TRAININGS THAT WE NEED TO ROLL OUT TO PRINCIPALS AND TO STAFF TO GET THEM PREPARED.

IT WAS A GREAT TURNOUT.

WE ONLY HAD A HANDFUL OF TEACHERS THAT WEREN'T ABLE TO GET THAT TRAINING DURING START UP, BUT SHE'S GOT A PLAN AND WORKING THROUGH THAT.

SO BEEN VERY BUSY WITH THOSE THINGS.

SOME PIECES THAT THAT DAVID KENNEDY HAS BEEN SHARING WITH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS ABOUT SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROCESSES FOR THIS YEAR AS WE LOOK AT THE WASHINGTON STATE INSTRUCTIONAL FRAMEWORK.

SO THERE HAVE BEEN A NUMBER OF THINGS HAPPENING, GETTING THEM READY FOR THEIR SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PROCESS AND WHAT THEY NEED TO DO TO BE READY FOR THAT.

AS WE GET CLOSE TO THOSE PRESENTATIONS IN BOTH DECEMBER AND JANUARY, BEFORE WE BRING THOSE TO YOU AT THE END OF JANUARY FOR APPROVAL.

I THINK THAT'S ABOUT IT.

THAT'S ALL WE HAVE THIS WEEK.

NEXT BOARD MEETING, WE WILL BE SHARING SOME ASSESSMENT DATA, THE SBAC SCORES.

WE'LL ALSO BE DOING A PRESENTATION ON OUR PREVENTION INTERVENTION.

I THINK I MENTIONED THAT EARLIER, THAT PROGRAM, IT ALIGNS REALLY WELL.

IT'S ALSO RED RIBBON WEEK THAT WEEK.

SO IT WILL BE A PERFECT TIME FOR US TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WORK THEY DO AND WHAT WE'RE DOING TO PREVENT DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE.

SO ANY QUESTIONS? THE TEACHER EVALUATION DANIELSON FRAMEWORK.

IS IT BEING SIGNIFICANTLY MODIFIED? IT'S A PRETTY BIG SHIFT. IT'S A PRETTY BIG SHIFT, YEAH.

JUST A BRIEF ONE SENTENCE.

IN WHAT WAY? THE MORE EMPHASIS ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT AND HOW STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED IN THE CLASSROOM BASED ON THE TEACHERS INSTRUCTIONAL MOVES.

SO THERE'S A NUMBER OF THINGS.

THERE'S ALSO SOME SHIFTS AROUND HOW TO HELP ALL STUDENTS ENGAGE IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

SO THERE'S SOME ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AS WELL.

SO A LOT OF NEW MUST SEES IN TERMS OF FOR TEACHERS WHA YOUR WHAT IN ORDER TO SCORE AT PROFICIENT OR ABOVE. WE'RE LOOKING TO SEE.

THE THINGS YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO SEE AND DOCUMENT.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU'D ADD.

IT'S MORE STUDENT CENTERED LIKE FOCUSED ON STUDENT LEARNING, LIKE THE STUDENT IS THE LEARNER.

HOW DO WE FACILITATE STUDENT DISCOURSE IN THE CLASSROOM? HOW ARE STUDENTS TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THEIR LEARNING AND HOW DO WE AS EDUCATORS FACILITATE THAT PROCESS? AND REALLY JUST KIND OF SHIFTING THE LANGUAGE FROM WHAT THE TEACHER DOES TO WHAT THE STUDENTS ARE DOING AND HOW WE AS EDUCATORS FACILITATE THAT.

SO A LOT OF POSITIVE CHANGE IN TERMS OF COLLECTIVE ENVIRONMENTAL, LIKE WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER CREATING THAT CLASSROOM CULTURE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S MOVING MORE TOWARDS THE SEL FRAMEWORK [INAUDIBLE] AND WE ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH SEL, SO I'M CURIOUS TO YEAH, SEL IS VERY MUCH STUDENT CENTERED.

YOU'RE LOOKING AT WHAT THE STUDENT IS DOING IN THE CLASSROOM.

THAT'S THE FOCUS.

SO AND THEN THE ASSUMPTION IS WHAT THE STUDENT IS DOING IS BECAUSE OF THE TEACHER.

RIGHT. OKAY. YEAH.

THEY GAVE US THIS HANDOUT ON THE PLEASANT VALLEY TOUR IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.

I'M VERY INTERESTED.

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT BE.

SHALL I ADD A QUESTION ABOUT ACADEMIES? YEAH. CAN YOU GO INTO MORE ABOUT THAT.

WELL, WHY DON'T I LET EITHER MIKE LEFT.

BUT YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT A LITTLE BIT, ALISON? SURE. YEAH, SURE.

THAT WOULD BE LOVELY.

I'M ACTUALLY WORKING ON EMAILS TO INVITE TEACHERS RIGHT NOW.

SO WE HAVE K4 ACADEMY.

IT STARTED OUT WITH JUST KINDERGARTEN, WHERE WE HAVE CLASSROOM TEACHER WHO WORKS WITH ABOUT TEN OTHER CLASSROOM TEACHERS AT THE SAME GRADE LEVEL.

[01:20:05]

AND THEY HAVE FOUR SESSIONS WHERE WE BRING PEOPLE IN FOR HALF A DAY.

THEY GET TO SEE A LESSON BEING GIVEN IN THE CLASSROOM, AND THEN THEY GET TO DEBRIEF THAT.

THEY GO BACK TO THE CLASSROOM AND THEY TRY THE STRATEGIES THAT ARE USED IN THERE, AND THEN THEY DO SOMETHING WITH THEIR STUDENTS AND BRING THE DATA BACK TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT AT THE NEXT MEETING AND SO IT'S REALLY A GREAT JOB EMBEDDED COACHING PROCESS THAT WE GO THROUGH AND OUR TEACHERS REALLY LOVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO LEARN FROM THEIR PEERS.

WE HAVE HEARD FROM OTHER DISTRICTS AROUND US THAT THEY WISH THAT THEY COULD DO WHAT WE'RE DOING.

WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE, YOU NEED TO PUBLISH THIS BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME THING.

WHEN WE WORK WITH OUR PUBLISHERS, THEY'RE LIKE, THIS IS REALLY COOL.

CAN WE HIGHLIGHT WHAT YOU'RE DOING IN YOUR DISTRICT WITH OTHER DISTRICTS THAT ARE TRYING IT AS WELL? WE HAVE LONG SAID THAT OUR EDUCATORS ARE VERY HIGHLY SKILLED, BUT OFTENTIMES THEY DON'T GET TO SHARE THAT WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES AND THIS SETS UP A SYSTEM FOR THEM TO DO THAT AND THIS IS COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY AND WE HAVE TO BAT THEM AWAY WITH A STICK BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH ROOM TO. YEAH, WE HAVE 50 PEOPLE WHO HAVE APPLIED TO PARTICIPATE.

WE WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE ALL 50 PARTICIPANTS THIS YEAR.

SOME OF THEM ARE INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES, SO WE DON'T HAVE TO PURCHASE SUBS FOR THEM.

SO THAT'S REALLY COOL.

WE DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SUBS, BUT THE GOAL IS FOR OUR CLASSROOM TEACHERS TO SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE WITH OTHER CLASSROOM TEACHERS.

IS THE COST OF THE SUB A PRIMARY LIMITER? YEP AND GETTING THE SUB? YES. AND GETTING THE SUBS.

GETTING THE SUBS. YES.

WE DO HAVE PEOPLE THAT HAVE ATTENDED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY REALLY LOVE IT AND THEY WANT TO ALWAYS COME BACK.

PRIORITY IS GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT HAD THE EXPERIENCE.

IF WE DON'T HAVE ROOM, BUT WE HAVE THE ROOM.

THIS YEAR I WAS JUST LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS.

WE HAVE 16 BRAND NEW PARTICIPANTS WHO'VE NEVER BEEN PART OF ACADEMY BEFORE, AND THEN EVERYBODY ELSE HAS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT.

MAYBE NOT LAST YEAR.

THE INTEREST IS REALLY PEAKED WITH THE NEW CURRICULUM AND BEING ABLE TO HAVE THAT COLLABORATION.

TIME TO LEARN AND SEE WHAT SOMEBODY ELSE IS DOING AND WHAT IS SUCCESSFUL FOR YOU.

WHAT ARE YOUR STRUGGLES AND HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONVERSE ABOUT THAT AND THEN LEARN FROM IT? AND SO EVERYONE WHO WANTS TO PARTICIPATE IS GETTING THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO.

THIS YEAR, WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE EVERYBODY WHO'S APPLIED.

YES AND THEN THAT MODEL IS ALSO SHIFTING INTO MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE HAVE A MIDDLE SCHOOL MATH ACADEMY THAT IS STRUCTURED A LITTLE BIT OFF OF THIS MODEL, BUT NOT QUITE THE SAME, BUT THERE WAS INTEREST IN STRETCHING THAT OUT TO FIFTH GRADE.

BUT BECAUSE WE HAVE A DIFFERENT CURRICULUM IN FIFTH GRADE THAN WE HAVE SIXTH THROUGH EIGHTH THIS YEAR, WE'RE STICKING WITH THE SIXTH THROUGH EIGHTH, AND THEN WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO ADD FIFTH GRADE IN ADDITION IN THE FUTURE.

THE APPLICANTS THAT HAVE BEEN APPROVED OR THAT ARE DOING THIS, ARE THEY BEING PAIRED WITH THEIR, SAY, THEIR PLC MEMBERS OR TEAM? THEY WORK ALL TOGETHER BY GRADE LEVEL.

SO WE HAVE A KINDERGARTEN TEAM, A FIRST GRADE TEAM, A SECOND GRADE TEAM, A THIRD GRADE TEAM, AND A FOURTH GRADE TEAM AND A PK TEAM AND A TK TEAM.

SO THEN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND PLC IS THAT THIS IS MORE OF AN IN THE CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT, WHILE THE OTHER ONE IS TEACHING VERSUS PLC IS WHEN THERE IS A GROUP TOGETHER OF JUST TEACHERS AND YOU COULD CHOOSE TO GO.

IF NO ONE ON YOUR TEAM WANTED TO BE A PART OF ACADEMY, YOU COULD GO.

IT REALLY DOES FIT THE WHOLE IDEA OF A GROWTH MINDSET AND SO AND TIMING FOR INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE ONE YEAR I MIGHT SAY, OH, I'VE GOT TOO MUCH GOING ON AFTER SCHOOL WITH MY KIDS.

I CAN'T PLAN LESSONS TO BE GONE OUT OF MY CLASSROOM, BUT NEXT YEAR I'M GOING TO DO IT.

SO IT DOES ALLOW PEOPLE TO CHOOSE THE KIND OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THEY NEED AT THE TIME.

AND WE DO ASK THAT IF THEY ARE PART OF THE ACADEMY, THAT THEY GO BACK AND SHARE WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES.

YEAH, I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO DO THIS.

IT SEEMS LIKE IT REALLY ACCOMMODATES TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFERENT LEARNING STYLES TOO, BECAUSE THE PLC MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU, BUT THE WAY YOU LEARN.

BUT THEN THIS IS MORE OF A HANDS ON EXPERIENCE, RIGHT? AND SOMETIMES YOU JUST NEED TO SEE IT IN ACTION.

YEAH AND IT JUST REALLY ALLOWS THAT REALLY KIND OF BOLSTERS THE PLC PROGRAM AND OUR ACADEMY FACILITATORS REALLY GO ABOVE AND BEYOND.

THEY WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.

YEAH, THEY ARE OUR OWN PEOPLE.

YEP. BUT THEY WILL GO IN AND THEY'LL SAY, YOU'RE WELCOME TO CALL ME OR EMAIL ME AT ANY TIME.

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT A SPECIFIC LESSON AND WHAT I'VE TRIED, I'M HAPPY TO SHARE AND THEY'VE BEEN REALLY KIND ABOUT.

IF ANY OF YOU HAVE AN INTEREST IN SEEING ONE OF THEM IN ACTION, I CAN CERTAINLY GET THE DATES AND SHARE THEM WITH YOU AND CERTAINLY IF YOU'D LIKE TO SEE ONE IN ACTION, YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE A LESSON BEING TAUGHT.

IT'S PRETTY IMPRESSIVE ON OCTOBER 1ST AND OCTOBER [INAUDIBLE].

YEAH, WE ALL WOULD.

IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A DAY, THOUGH WHEN TEACH.

THERE WERE SOME TEACHERS WHO DIDN'T WANT TO SHARE THEIR BEST PRACTICES BECAUSE OF THE COMPETITION.

[01:25:01]

AND SO THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES REALLY NURTURE THIS ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEY'RE ALL WORKING TOGETHER AND WE'RE I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW INVALUABLE GOING TO SOMEBODY ELSE'S CLASS AND ACTUALLY SEEING SOMEBODY DEAL WITH SOME OF THIS STUFF CAN BE IT CAN BE VERY INCREDIBLE.

YEAH. OCTOBER 1ST AND OCTOBER 3RD ARE FIRST ACADEMY SESSIONS.

THANK YOU. TERRY, JUST TO YOUR POINT THOUGH ABOUT THE MONEY, 50 TEACHERS PROVIDING SUBS FOR THOSE 50 TEACHERS IS PROBABLY ABOUT $12,000 FOR US AND YOU SEE, WHEN YOU DO THAT FOUR TIMES A YEAR, IT'S INVALUABLE.

IT'S INVALUABLE. SO THIS IS WHEN WE TALK ABOUT HELPING OUR TEACHERS TO GET BETTER.

YEAH THIS IS A BIG DEAL AND SO THE MONEY IS WELL SPENT.

YEAH. RIGHT AND THEN WE TALK ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET A SUBSTITUTE.

YEAH. YOU SEE HOW IT ADDS UP.

YEAH. FINDING 50 SUBS, YOU KNOW.

SO NO REPORT FROM HR? NO REPORT FROM FINANCE.

KEVIN'S OUT SICK TODAY.

SO THAT LEAVES US WITH AMANDA.

GOOD EVENING. GOOD EVENING.

A COUPLE OF THINGS TO SHARE WITH YOU.

FIRST OFF IS IF YOU VISITED THE DISTRICT WEBSITE OR ANY OF THE SCHOOL WEBSITES RECENTLY, YOU'VE SEEN THAT THINGS LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

THANK YOU. MARY. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL.

OUR LAST REDESIGN WAS ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO.

SO IF YOU THINK ABOUT IN TERMS OF INTERNET YEARS, THAT'S ABOUT A CENTURY.

SO THIS IS A LONG TIME COMING.

WE'RE VERY HAPPY. WE'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF WORK TO TEACH AND SUPPORT SCHOOLS IN THEIR USE OF THIS NEW PLATFORM.

WE THINK THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF NEW AND BETTER, MORE EFFICIENT WAYS FOR SCHOOLS TO COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS AND GUARDIANS, INCLUDING A MOBILE APP THAT ANYONE CAN DOWNLOAD. IT'S AVAILABLE FOR A VARIETY OF DEVICES, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

IT'S ALSO GOING TO PROVIDE SOME EFFICIENCY TO STAFF TO BE ABLE TO MANAGE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS AND NEXT, IF YOU READ THE LAST BGP BULLETIN YOU SAW, THE LEAD STORY WAS A GREAT ARTICLE THAT CHRIS BROWN WROTE ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS.

AS YOU KNOW, THESE ARE FUNDED BY OUR LOCAL LEVY.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS ARE NOW IN THEIR THIRD YEAR OF BEING BACK IN THE DISTRICT AND HAVE REALLY EXPANDED SINCE WE FIRST BROUGHT THEM BACK, AND THEY'RE HAVING SOME NEAT IMPACTS.

SO FOR ONE EXAMPLE, A BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, THEY HAVE FOUR FULL VOLLEYBALL TEAMS THIS YEAR, WHEREAS PREVIOUSLY THEY STRUGGLED TO EVEN PUT TOGETHER ONE TEAM AND THEY'RE SEEING THAT AS ONE OF THE OUTGROWTHS OF HAVING MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS IN PLACE AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE A NEW EPISODE OF THE PODCAST AVAILABLE TO LISTEN WITH THE MAYOR, FORMER SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER, AND ALSO THE COUPLE, REPRESENTATIVES FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL'S UNIFIED SPORTS TEAM, TALKING ABOUT THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING TO MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND THEN NEXT, I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT RIVER HOMELINK WAS RECENTLY ONE OF JUST 21 SCHOOLS IN THE STATE TO RECEIVE THE SCHOOL ON THE RISE AWARD, AND THIS IS AWARD FOR CREATING A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH STAFF MEMBERS AND PARENTS AND STUDENTS ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR THE BENEFIT OF STUDENTS.

I THINK RIVER HOMELINK WAS ONE OF ONLY THREE IN SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON AS WELL, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM FOR ALL THE WORK THAT LED TO THAT AWARD AND THEN LASTLY TEACHER JASON FOSTER, WHO TEACHES BROADCASTING.

HE AND HIS STUDENTS DO A LOT OF WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO BRING ATHLETIC EVENTS TO THE PUBLIC, AND I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THEIR FALL BROADCAST BROADCAST SCHEDULE IS AVAILABLE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE, AND BE SURE TO CHECK THAT OUT IF YOU CAN'T GET TO THE GAME IN PERSON.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH AND THAT IS IT FOR SUPERINTENDENT STAFF UPDATES.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

[8. Citizens' Comments]

NEXT UP WE HAVE CITIZENS COMMENTS.

I WILL REMIND EVERYONE THIS IS A MEETING OF THE BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND IT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TO ATTEND FEW PRESENTATIONS AND HEAR BOARD MEMBERS DISCUSS TOPICS DURING OPEN SESSIONS.

THE BOARD WELCOMES COMMENTS FROM CITIZENS DURING CITIZENS COMMENTS AND ASKS THOSE WISHING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD SIGN IN ON THE SIGN IN SHEET PROVIDED, WHICH IS LOCATED CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE. PLEASE FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES FOR CITIZENS COMMENTS BY STATING YOUR NAME AND LIMITING YOUR TIME TO THREE MINUTES AND REFRAINING FROM DISCUSSING CONFIDENTIAL MATTERS.

THE BOARD REQUIRES THAT ALL COMMENTS SPOKEN AT THE MEETING ARE APPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE.

COMMENTS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A FAMILY AUDIENCE CAN BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING.

BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT NORMALLY RESPOND TO QUESTIONS OR PETITIONS DURING CITIZENS COMMENTS.

THEY WILL LISTEN AND GIVE DIRECTION TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM IF ACTION IS DEEMED NECESSARY.

I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT IT STILL HAS TWO WARNINGS.

ONE IS 30S REMAINING AND ONE WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP IN RED.

YOUR TIME WILL ALSO BE DISPLAYED ON THE MONITOR AND I WILL INTERRUPT YOU IF YOU RUN OUT OF TIME TO LET YOU KNOW TO WRAP IT UP.

[01:30:01]

FIRST UP IS EUNICE INGERMANSON.

GOOD EVENING BOARD.

MY NAME IS EUNICE INGERMANSON AND MY PRONOUNS ARE SHE HER.

I LIVE IN THIS DISTRICT.

I HAVE BEEN HEARING A LOT OF ARGUMENTS AT THESE BOARD MEETINGS, THAT OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES ARE PROVIDING PORNOGRAPHIC BOOKS TO OUR STUDENTS, GETTING THEM HOOKED ON PORNOGRAPHY FOR LIFE.

I AM ON THE SAME PAGE AS THESE SPEAKERS WHEN IT COMES TO NEEDING TO PROTECT OUR STUDENTS FROM MATERIALS THAT ARE DESIGNED TO GET THEM ADDICTED TO PORNOGRAPHY.

WHERE WE DIVERGE MAY BE JUST WHERE THOSE PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIALS ARE TO BE FOUND.

WHEN WE OBJECT TO THE BOOKS WITH SOME SEXUAL CONTENTS THAT WERE CHOSEN FOR OUR SCHOOL SCHOOL LIBRARIES BECAUSE OF THEIR OVERALL GREAT VALUE, WE MAY END UP WASTING PRECIOUS DISTRICT RESOURCES TO GET THE BOOKS PULLED AND REVIEWED AND RESHELVED, ETC. WHILE OUR STUDENTS ARE BEING SUCKED INTO HARDCORE PORN THAT CONSUMES MUCH OF THEIR TIME AND PULLS THEM AWAY FROM REAL FRIENDSHIPS AND DATING, RELATIONSHIPS, SCHOOL, WORK, JOB TRAINING, INCOME PRODUCING WORK, AND EVEN SLEEP.

THE MAJOR GATEWAY TO PORNOGRAPHY IS NOT THE SCHOOL LIBRARY, BUT THE SMARTPHONES THAT EVERYBODY SEEMS TO BE CARRYING 24 OVER SEVEN FROM A PRETTY EARLY AGE.

UNMONITORED AND UNLIMITED SMARTPHONE USE IS LINKED TO SOCIAL DEPRIVATION, SLEEP DEPRIVATION, ATTENTION FRAGMENTATION AND ADDICTION.

I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT THE DISTRICT IS TACKLING THIS VERY ISSUE THIS SCHOOL YEAR, AND THAT CONSIDERABLE TIME WILL BE SPENT BY THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO DISCUSS WHAT THE DISTRICT SMARTPHONE POLICY SHOULD BE.

I THINK WE AS A COMMUNITY, SHOULD SHIFT OUR ATTENTION FROM THE LIBRARIES TO THE ROLE THAT SMARTPHONES ARE PLAYING IN OUR KIDS LIVES, AND HAVE SERIOUS CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW TO BUILD ROBUST GUARDRAILS AROUND OUR YOUTH SMARTPHONE USE, BOTH AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME.

I BELIEVE THAT OUR YOUTH ARE THE FUTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY, AND AS ALWAYS, I WANT TO SEE THEM STAY SAFE AND THRIVE IN EVERY WAY AND BECOME HEALTHY, HAPPY, AND PRODUCTIVE ADULTS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

JUSTIN HORNBAKER.

HI, MY NAME IS JUSTIN HORNBAKER.

[INAUDIBLE].

THIS IS JUSTIN HORNBAKER.

YOU CAN HEAR ME NOW, RIGHT? SO LAST TIME WE WERE TRYING TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CURRICULUM AND THE INFORMATION WE'VE GAINED ON THAT AND I JUST WANT TO TAKE THIS TIME TO INFORM YOU OF THE MARXIST ROOTS OF CRT, WHICH IS PART OF THE SEL SCHOOL CURRICULUM.

IN AN ARTICLE IN THE NEW YORK POST BY CHRISTOPHER F RUFO TITLED WHAT CRITICAL RACE THEORY IS REALLY ABOUT, IT SAYS ORIGINALLY, THE MARXIST LEFT IS BUILT ON A POLITICAL PROGRAM, BUILT ITS POLITICAL PROGRAM ON THE THEORY OF CLASS CONFLICT.

KARL MARX BELIEVED THAT THE PRIMARY CHARACTERISTIC OF INDUSTRIAL SOCIETIES WAS THE IMBALANCE OF POWER BETWEEN CAPITALISTS AND WORKERS, THE SOLUTION TO THAT IMBALANCE, ACCORDING TO MARX, WAS REVOLUTION TO OVERTHROW THE CAPITALIST CLASS AND USHER IN A NEW SOCIALIST SOCIETY DURING THE 20TH CENTURY.

A NUMBER OF REGIMES UNDERWENT MARXIST MARXIST STYLE REVOLUTIONS, AND EACH ENDED IN DISASTER.

SOCIALIST GOVERNMENTS AND THE SOVIET UNION, CHINA, CAMBODIA, CUBA AND ELSEWHERE RACKED UP A BODY COUNT OF NEARLY 100 MILLION PEOPLE.

THEY ARE REMEMBERED FOR GULAGS, SHOW TRIALS, EXECUTIONS, AND MASS STARVATION.

IN PRACTICE, MARXIST IDEAS UNLEASHED MAN'S DARKEST BRUTALITIES.

BY THE END OF THE MID 1960S, MARXIST INTELLECTUALS IN THE WEST HAD BEGUN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THESE FAILURES.

BUT RATHER THAN ABANDON THEIR POLITICAL PROJECT, MARXIST SCHOLARS IN THE WEST SIMPLY ADAPTED THEIR REVOLUTIONARY THEORY TO THE SOCIAL AND RACIAL UNREST OF THE

[01:35:01]

1960S. ABANDONING MARXIST ECONOMIC DIALECTIC OF CAPITALISTS AND WORKERS, THEY SUBSTITUTED RACE FOR CLASS AND SOUGHT TO CREATE A REVOLUTIONARY COALITION OF THE DISPOSSESSED BASED ON RACIAL AND ETHNIC CATEGORIES.

CRITICAL RACE THEORISTS WHO ARE MASTERS OF LANGUAGE CONSTRUCTION REALIZE THAT NEO-MARXISM WOULD BE A HARD SELL.

EQUITY, ON THE OTHER HAND, SOUNDS RATHER NON-THREATENING, REINHARDT, AND IS EASILY CONFUSED WITH THE AMERICAN PRINCIPLE OF EQUALITY.

ALL MEN ARE CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, BUT THE DISTINCTION IS VAST AND IMPORTANT.

INDEED, CRITICAL RACE THEORISTS EXPLICITLY REJECT EQUALITY.

IN CONTRAST TO EQUALITY, THE CONCEPT OF EQUITY IS DEFINED AND PROMOTED BY CRITICAL RACE THEORISTS.

THE CONCEPT OF EQUALITY OR EQUITY, AS DEFINED AND PROMOTED BY CRITICAL RACE THEORISTS IS LITTLE MORE THAN REFORMULATED MARXISM, WHERE THEY SEEK TO SUSPEND PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS, SEIZING LAND AND WEALTH, AND REDISTRIBUTING THEM ALONG RACIAL LINES.

THIS IDEOLOGY ALSO SEEKS TO END INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS, EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW, FEDERALISM AND FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

THESE WOULD BE REPLACED BY RACE BASED REDISTRIBUTIVE REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH, GROUP BASED RIGHTS, ACTIVE DISCRIMINATION, AND OMNIPOTENT BUREAUCRATIC AUTHORITY AND THAT'S THIS INFORMATION FROM THIS ARTICLE AND THERE'S A LOT MORE THAT I COULD READ TO YOU, BUT I PRAY THAT YOU WILL LOVE THIS COMMUNITY AND THE KIDS THAT YOU SERVE BY TAKING THIS MATTER SERIOUSLY AND THROWING OUT THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULA.

THANK YOU. PLEASE WRAP UP.

YEAH. THANK YOU.

DORIE MILLER.

GOOD EVENING BOARD. MY NAME IS DORY MILLER AND I THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS YOU.

IF YOU ARE UPSET BY WHAT I HAVE TO SAY THIS EVENING, IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE I'M GOING TO BE TOUCHING ON ONE OF YOUR DEARLY HELD IDOLS.

IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE DISTRICT HAS RECEIVED A GRANT TO IMPLEMENT THE CASTLE CURRICULUM, AND THAT IT IS A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION IN THE DISTRICT.

MY REQUEST TO YOU THIS EVENING IS THAT IF GRANT MONEY HAS BEEN RECEIVED, THAT IT BE RETURNED, AND THAT NO SEL CURRICULUM OF ANY KIND BE ADOPTED OR MAINTAINED IN THIS DISTRICT. I WILL ELABORATE ON MY POSITION BY DRAWING CONCEPTS FROM A RECORDED INTERVIEW OF AUTHOR NOELLE MERING, POSTED ON YOUTUBE BY THE FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY OF STEUBENVILLE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE, TITLED A CHRISTIAN RESPONSE TO WOKENESS FROM FEBRUARY 9TH 22.

CASTLE SUPPORTS AND PROMOTES A DEFORMED IDEOLOGY THAT TAKES PARTIAL TRUTHS AND TOTALIZING THEM.

THE IDEOLOGY PRESENTS THE LIE THAT THE ONLY WAY TO LOOK AT THE WORLD IS THROUGH THE LENS OF POWER AND DOMINATION AND INEQUITABLE OUTCOMES, THEREFORE, ARE ONLY ATTRIBUTABLE TO RACISM, SEXISM, OR SOME OTHER TYPE OF PERCEIVED SOCIAL OPPRESSION.

TO SUPPORT THIS, I CITE A STATEMENT FROM THE CASTLE WEBSITE IN THE KEY SETTINGS PARAGRAPH FOUND ON THE WHAT IS THE CASTLE FRAMEWORK PAGE? QUOTE. STUDENTS, FAMILIES, SCHOOLS, AND COMMUNITIES ARE ALL PART OF BROADER SYSTEMS THAT SHAPE LEARNING DEVELOPMENT AND EXPERIENCES INEQUITIES BASED ON RACE, ETHNICITY, CLASS, LANGUAGE, GENDER IDENTITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, AND OTHER FACTORS ARE DEEPLY INGRAINED IN THE VAST MAJORITY OF THESE SYSTEMS. END QUOTE AND QUOTE IT.

SEL CAN CREATE THE CONDITIONS NEEDED FOR INDIVIDUALS AND SCHOOLS TO EXAMINE AND INTERRUPT INEQUITABLE POLICIES AND PRACTICES.

END QUOTE.

I READ THIS TO YOU SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THAT PEOPLE ARE BEING DEFINED BY THE HATRED OF SOCIETY AND WHERE THEY SIT ON THE LINE OF THE EVIL OF SOCIETY.

THE SEL SUPPORTS EMPOWERING AN IDEOLOGY, NOT EMPOWERING PEOPLE.

IT IS NOT ABOUT DIVERSITY, IT IS ABOUT UNIFORMITY OF THOUGHT.

THIS IDEOLOGY THEREBY DEFINES PEOPLE IN A MANNER THAT IS CONTRARY TO REALITY, AND THE REALITY IS THAT PEOPLE ARE IMAGE BEARERS OF GOD.

CASTLE WOULD TEACH STUDENTS TO ATTRIBUTE ALL OF THEIR SUCCESSES OR FAILURES TO SYSTEMIC FORCES OUTSIDE OF THEMSELVES.

OUR STUDENTS FAILURES WOULD THEN NOT BE THEIRS TO OWN AND LEARN FROM, AND THEIR SUCCESSES WOULD NOT BE THEIRS TO CLAIM AND GROW.

THE PARTIAL TRUTH IN THE IDEOLOGY IS THAT THE BLESSED AND GOD ORDAINED HUMAN SITUATION IS IN THE IDEOLOGY, IS THE BLESSED AND GOD ORDAINED HUMAN SITUATION, THAT WE ARE ALL ENDOWED BY OUR CREATOR WITH DIFFERENT INNATE CAPACITIES, WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT THE STATE CAN'T EQUALIZE.

THE TRUTH IN THE DEFORMED IDEOLOGY IS USED TO FOCUS STUDENTS EFFORTS ON ERADICATING THE IDENTIFIED SYSTEMIC FORCES IN SOCIETY, RATHER THAN POINTING THEM TO THE LOVE AND POWER OF A HOLY GOD.

[01:40:03]

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

JESSICA COLE.

HELLO, BOARD. MY NAME IS JESSICA COLE, AND I'M A PARENT WITH ALUMNI IN THE DISTRICT AND THIS IS BANNED BOOKS WEEK.

I WANT TO SHARE THAT MOST VOTERS AND PARENTS OPPOSE BOOK BANS, CENSORSHIP, OR REMOVAL IN LIBRARIES.

HERE'S SOME INFORMATION FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION'S WEBSITE.

A LARGE MAJORITY OF VOTERS AND PARENTS OPPOSE REMOVING BOOKS FROM SCHOOL LIBRARIES AFTER HEARING ARGUMENTS FROM BOTH SIDES.

THIS HOLDS TRUE FOR PARENTS WITH CHILDREN OF ALL GRADE LEVELS.

HIGH RATES OF VOTERS AND PARENTS SAY LIBRARIES PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS.

THIS SUPPORT SPANS ACROSS POLITICAL AFFILIATIONS.

MOST PARENTS HAVE HIGH CONFIDENCE IN SCHOOL LIBRARIES DECISIONS ABOUT THEIR BOOK COLLECTIONS, AND ONLY 12% BELIEVE LIBRARIANS IGNORE PARENTS CONCERNS.

A MAJORITY FEEL LIBRARY LIBRARIANS LISTEN TO AND WORK WITH PARENTS IF THERE IS A CONCERN.

VOTERS AND PARENTS OVERWHELMINGLY SIDE WITH THOSE OPPOSING BOOK REMOVALS.

A SIGNIFICANT MAJORITY AGREE THAT IT'S IMPORTANT TO ENSURE YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO BOOKS THAT EXPOSE THEM TO DIVERSE PERSPECTIVES, HELPING THEM TO DEVELOP INTO INDEPENDENT THINKERS, VOTERS, AND PARENTS.

ALSO OVERWHELMINGLY SIDE AGAINST ALLOWING INDIVIDUAL PARENTS TO CONTROL ACCESS FOR OTHERS.

A LARGE MAJORITY AGREE THAT WHILE PARENTS CAN SET RULES FOR THEIR OWN CHILDREN, THEY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHAT BOOKS OTHER CHILDREN CAN ACCESS.

THE ROLE OF A LIBRARY IS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO INFORMATION, AND REMOVING BOOKS RESTRICTS THAT ACCESS.

WHEN WE REJECT BOOKS ABOUT LGBTQ INDIVIDUALS, PEOPLE OF COLOR, SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND OTHER MARGINALIZED GROUPS, WE ARE ESSENTIALLY SAYING WE DON'T WANT THESE GROUPS REPRESENTED IN OUR CLASSROOMS. THEREFORE, I URGE THE SCHOOL BOARD TO UPHOLD THE INTEGRITY OF OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES BY ENSURING ALL STUDENTS CAN ACCESS A DIVERSE RANGE OF BOOKS, WHICH IS ESSENTIAL FOR THEIR GROWTH, CRITICAL THINKING AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD.

SUPPORTING AN INCLUSIVE LIBRARY ENVIRONMENT AFFIRMS OUR COMMITMENT TO REPRESENTING ALL VOICES IN OUR SCHOOLS, AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE GAME ON FRIDAY WAS SUPER GOOD AND VERY EXCITING.

I JUST HAPPENED TO SIT ON THAT.

I'M TALKING ABOUT THE THIRD QUARTER.

THE THIRD QUARTER IS VERY EXCITING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I'M SORRY TED.

IT'S. JOEY DORRANCE.

[INAUDIBLE] GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

MY NAME IS JOEY DORRANCE. THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THIS OPPORTUNITY.

I HAVE A QUESTION.

WHAT IS ETHICS? WHAT IS ETHICS? WHAT'S THE MORAL STANDARD UNDERGIRDING ETHICS? THE TERM ETHICS HAS BEEN USED MANY TIMES ON BATTLE GROUND OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS.

BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL WEBSITES AND IT'S BEEN USED HERE.

BUT ETHICS PRESUPPOSES SOMETHING.

THE REASON I'M ASKING IS BECAUSE THERE'S BEEN SOME OBVIOUS MORAL AND RELIGIOUS STANCES TAKEN HERE.

THERE WAS PORN IN THE BOOKS, AND WE AT LEAST AGREED ABOUT THE BOOKS THAT WERE READ PUBLICLY HERE, THAT IT WAS PORNOGRAPHIC.

SO THERE IS SOME APPARENT COMMON GROUND.

THERE'S WELL DOCUMENTED.

WE EVEN HEARD SOME OF IT TODAY.

CRITICAL THEORY, WHICH COMES FROM MARXISM.

THERE'S RACISM, SEXISM, DATA HARVESTING IN THE NEW CASTLE CURRICULUM BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE OLD ONE, IT'S THE NEW ONE AND THEY'VE BEEN FAIRLY CLEAR BUT POLISHED ABOUT IT.

IN TRANSFORMATIVE CASTLE, THERE'S DOCUMENTED AND AT TIMES LEGISLATED, UNDERMINING PARENTAL AUTHORITY GOING ON IN THIS DISTRICT AND THEN ALSO IN CASTLE.

SO THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING WHAT'S GOING ON HERE ETHICALLY, BECAUSE WE'RE USING THAT WORD.

ADULTS NEED TO BE ETHICAL.

WE WANT TO GIVE A GOOD ETHICAL STANDARD FOR THE KIDS.

BUT THEN WE HAVE THINGS LIKE THIS GOING ON.

AND SO IT DOES RAISE THE QUESTION, WHAT'S THE STANDARD OF ETHICS? BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAS ETHICS, BUT WE JUST HAVE DIFFERENT STANDARDS OF THOSE ETHICS AND THIS ISN'T MERE THEORY.

[01:45:01]

SO SOME TRANSPARENCY WOULD BE HELPFUL BECAUSE THESE ARE CHILDREN'S LIVES.

THESE ARE REAL PEOPLE.

FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVEN'T HAD AN UPDATE ON KEVIN WEEKES, THE CHILD SEX PREDATOR EMPLOYEE OF THIS DISTRICT, ARRESTED IN APRIL FOR FIRST DEGREE SEXUAL CORRUPTION OF A MINOR PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE.

SO THE THEME OF ETHICS RUNS THROUGH ALL OF THESE AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE, AS PARENTS IN THIS DISTRICT IF YOU WOULD SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS, PLEASE.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. THAT CONCLUDES OUR CITIZENS COMMENTS.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

OH, WHEN? I'M SO SORRY.

YOU ARE CORRECT. YOU DID.

PLEASE COME FORWARD.

I ALMOST MISSED YOU.

I'M SO SORRY.

I WANT YOU TO PASS THIS DOWN AND EACH TAKE A PAPER AND ONE OF EACH.

OKAY? WHEN IN THE FUTURE.

[INAUDIBLE]. WHEN IN THE FUTURE? COULD YOU DIRECT IT TO LISA OVER THERE BEHIND THE COMPUTERS? NOT TO OUR STUDENTS.

IT GOES AROUND, BUT SHE CAN DISTRIBUTE IT PLEASE.

RATHER THAN YOU APPROACHING THE BOARD.

FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO SAY I GUESS I HAVE TO TURN MY HEAD THIS WAY BECAUSE THEN YOU CAN SEE THE TIMING.

YOU DON'T HAVE THE TIMING UP HERE WITH THE SPEAKER SPEAKS.

THESE THINGS SHOULD BE MOVED OVER.

THAT WOULD HELP AND SECONDLY, IS THE FACT THAT YOU ALL GOT A PAPER OF WHAT THEY'RE PUTTING IN OUR WATER AND BATTLE GROUND SPENDS 33,000 EVERY YEAR TO PUT THIS IN THE WATER, WHICH LOWERS YOUR IQ AND INCREASES CANCER DEATH RATES.

IT CAUSES CRIPPLING BONE DISEASE, ALL KINDS OF BAD STUFF.

AND YOU HAVE ALL OF THIS ON PUBLIC RECORD RIGHT NOW.

YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET THIS STOPPED.

IF WE CAN GET THESE SCHOOL KIDS AND ALL OF THE PARENTS TO GO DOWN TO THE CITY COUNCIL AND DEMAND IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE LAWS NOW, THEY JUST PASSED IT LAST YEAR.

YOU CAN STOP THIS.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO VOTE ON IT OR ANYTHING AND 50 YEARS AGO, WHEN THESE PEOPLE WERE DECEIVED AND LIED TO SAYING THAT THIS WAS MEDICINE, AS YOU CAN SEE, IT'S NOT MEDICINE. THIS IS AN INDUSTRIAL WASTE PRODUCT IN A BAG WITH A SKULL AND CROSSBONES ON IT, AND YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S IN IT.

ONE OF THE YOUTUBE VIDEOS AND YOU HAVE TO PUT THE DATE IN IT.

YOUTUBE. IT SAYS 2017 BANNED DOCUMENTARY TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT WATER EXPOSED.

I'LL SAY IT AGAIN.

WRITE IT DOWN 2017 BANDED DOCUMENTARY TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT WATER EXPOSED.

THIS IS A DENTIST WHICH I MET.

I KNOW ALL THESE PEOPLE IN THESE VIDEOS BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ALL KINDS OF SEMINARS.

THE OTHER ONE THAT I PUT ON THE PUBLIC ACCESS CHANNEL AT CHABOT COLLEGE WAS THE PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON WATER FLUORIDATION VIDEO.

I WENT TO A JUNIOR COLLEGE IN HAYWARD IN MY 50S, AND THE WEIRD THING IS THEY HAD A DENTAL ASSISTING SCHOOL THERE AND I PUT THIS VIDEO ON THAT'S DONE BY DENTIST AND THE PEOPLE WHO DID THE EXPERIMENTS ON WHEN THEY GAVE THE RATS FLUORIDE.

IT MAKES THE BABY RATS HYPERACTIVE ATTENTION DEFICIT.

THAT'S WHY THEY PUT PEOPLE ON RITALIN AND THEN THE OTHER ONE, THEY ALSO CAUSE PEOPLE TO GET THE OLDER RATS TO HAVE ALZHEIMER'S.

I HAD IT ON THE PUBLIC ACCESS CHANNEL FOR THREE MONTHS, AND IN THREE MONTHS EVERYBODY THAT SAW THAT VIDEO, THEY SAID, THAT'S POISONED.

I SAID, YOU'RE DARN RIGHT WE NEED TO GET IT OUT.

SO WHEN FLUORIDE ALERT.

ORG AND FLUORIDE ACTION NETWORK THOSE TWO WEBSITES, YOU CAN SEE THE LAWSUITS AND THEY ALSO HAVE THEM ON YOU KNOW, THEY HAVE THEM ON YOUTUBE.

YOU CAN WATCH. BUT THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION, WHAT THEY DID WAS THEY STOPPED IT BEFORE THEY WENT THROUGH THE WHOLE TRIAL.

THEY WOULDN'T LET THE JUDGE GIVE THE FINDINGS BECAUSE THEY WANTED THAT POISON IN THE WATER BECAUSE IT LOWERS IQS, MAKES PEOPLE APATHETIC, AND INCREASES CANCER.

SO WHAT'S REALLY GOOD ABOUT IT? IT MAKES A LOT OF MONEY FOR THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES AND THIS THING HERE TALKS ABOUT THE TAMPONS HAVING ROUNDUP ON IT, WHICH YOU GIRLS SHOULD BE FIGHTING.

GET ALL OF THE SENIORS TOGETHER.

ANY GIRL IN THIS SCHOOL COME AFTER THEM AND TELL THEM YOU WANT ORGANIC TAMPONS AND THERE'S NO EXCUSE FOR IT, BECAUSE PARTS PER TRILLION, THIS STUFF GETS INSIDE YOU.

IT GETS INTO YOUR BLOODSTREAM AND LATER, GLYPHOSATE FROM ROUNDUP CAUSES TRANS.

NOW, I WAS TELLING YOU HOW SOME PEOPLE WHEN THEY.

ANYWAY, I'LL TELL YOU NEXT TIME, BUT I'M PUTTING ALL THIS ON PUBLIC RECORD AND DO CHECK OUT WHAT I SAY AND HERE EVERYBODY CAN SEE THAT THIS IS POISON.

YOU'VE HAD A MONTH. WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO STOP THE POISON OF THIS IN THE BATHROOM? YOU [INAUDIBLE]. THANK YOU.
