[5. Communications]

WE HAVE STUDENTS HERE TONIGHT, I BELIEVE, FROM GLENWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY.

IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME TO THE PODIUM.

>> THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS PAULINE MCDONALD.

I'M A FOURTH GRADE STUDENT, AND I AM A PART OF THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM HERE AT GLENWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME HERE TONIGHT.

TO BEGIN, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT OUR STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM HAVE DONE THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

ON A WEEKLY BASIS, TWO MEMBERS OF OUR STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM ROTATE TURNS DURING THE DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS.

DURING THE ANNOUNCEMENTS, WE INFORM THE SCHOOL ABOUT WHAT WE ARE HAVING FOR LUNCH THAT DAY, AS WELL AS SHARE ENCOURAGING QUOTES AND ANY NEWS THEY SHOULD BE AWARE OF.

WE ENCOURAGE THE SCHOOL TO PICK UP AFTER THEMSELVES AND END IT WITH OUR SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS OF BEING SAFE, RESPECTFUL, AND RESPONSIBLE.

DURING THE ENTIRE MONTH OF OCTOBER, WE BEGAN WITH OUR FIRST EVENT, WE CALL SOAPTOBER,

[00:05:01]

WHERE WE COLLECT SOAPS, SHAMPOOS, LAUNDRY DETERGENT, AND BODY WASH FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.

WE ENDED UP COLLECTING 115 ITEMS AND DONATED THEM TO THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER.

OUR NEXT EVENT WAS THE SCHOOL WIDE ANNUAL CAMPFOO DRIVE, IN DECEMBER, THAT LASTED 10 DAYS WHERE WE SURPASSED LAST YEAR'S RECORD AND COLLECTED 3,044 CANS.

WE HELPED ORGANIZE AND LOAD THE BOXES INTO THE NORTH BANK COUNTY FOOD TRUCK WHERE WE DONATED THE ITEMS. AFTER THE FOOD DRIVE, WE PLANNED A SPIRIT WEEK FOR THE WEEK BEFORE WINTER BREAK.

OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM PICKED THE THEMES FOR EACH DAY, MADE POSTERS TO HANG AROUND THE SCHOOL, AND ANNOUNCED IT IN THE MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS.

LASTLY, I WANT TO TELL YOU WHY I THINK GLENWOOD IS GREAT AND WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY SCHOOL.

THE TEACHERS AT GLENWOOD ARE VERY ENCOURAGING AND POSITIVE.

I REMEMBER A TIME IN THIRD GRADE WHEN I WAS VERY UPSET ABOUT SOMETHING, AND MY THIRD GRADE TEACHER, MRS. LYNN, CAME UP TO ME AND SAID, I KNOW THINGS WILL BE OKAY BECAUSE YOU ROCK AND I'M CONFIDENT YOU'VE GOT THIS.

HER WORDS OF INSPIRATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT ALWAYS LET ME KNOW I COULD BELIEVE IN MYSELF.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MY SCHOOL IS THAT ALTHOUGH WE ARE ONE OF THE OLDER BUILDINGS, WE MAKE UP FOR THAT IN KINDNESS AND CREATIVITY.

WE ALWAYS HAVE FUN EVENTS HAPPENING THANKS TO THE PTO AND OUR PRINCIPALS.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME TONIGHT.

>> GOOD EVENING.

>> NICE JOB, PAULINE. SARAH.

>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS SARAH ERIN.

I AM A FOURTH GRADE STUDENT FROM GLENWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY, AND I AM A PART OF THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM.

THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO JOIN YOU TONIGHT.

TO BEGIN, EVERY FEW WEEKS, WE HAVE LEADERSHIP MEETINGS DURING LUNCH AND DISCUSS UPCOMING LEADERSHIP EVENTS.

I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME THINGS THAT OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM DID THIS YEAR AT GLENWOOD.

AROUND VALENTINE'S DAY, WE SOLD NOTES AND PENCILS CALLED VALENTINE'S GRAMS THAT STUDENTS COULD SEND TO A FRIEND OR TEACHER.

WE DID THIS TO PROMOTE KINDNESS.

WE SOLD THEM FOR $0.50 EACH AND MADE APPROXIMATELY $375.

WE DONATED THAT MONEY TO THE HUMANE SOCIETY FOR SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON TO HELP PETS.

BEFORE SPRING BREAK, THE LEADERSHIP STUDENTS PLANNED ANOTHER SPIRIT WEEK.

ON SCRABBLE DAY, STUDENTS AND TEACHERS WERE A SCRABBLE LETTER AND MADE WORDS WITH OTHERS.

I INVITED MR. WATERS TO JOIN US.

HE CAME TO GLENWOOD AND MADE WORDS WITH SEVERAL STUDENTS.

A FEW MONTHS AGO, 10 STUDENTS FROM THE STUDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM ALONG WITH MISS BARRY AND MISS MENDOZA HANSEL ATTENDED A GREEN SCHOOL SUMMIT AT CLARK COLLEGE.

WE LEARNED WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AT GREEN SCHOOL.

WE ALSO LEARNED HOW TO PLANT A SCHOOL GARDEN.

WE HAVE ALREADY STARTED A SMALL GARDEN OUTSIDE OF MY FOURTH GRADE CLASSROOM.

WE ARE PLANTING A BIGGER GARDEN FOR THE STUDENTS COMING NEXT YEAR.

I'VE ATTENDED GLENWOOD FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

I THINK IT'S AN AMAZING SCHOOL AND I FEEL SAFE HERE.

I ALSO ASK SOME STUDENTS IN MY CLASSROOM WHAT THEY LOVE ABOUT GLENWOOD, AND HERE'S WHAT SOME OF THEM SAID.

ALANA SAID, I LOVE THAT THE PTO MEMBERS ARE KIND.

ACCORDING TO CLAIRE, I LIKE THAT WHEN KIDS ARE HURT, THE NURSE TRIES TO HELP THEM FEEL CALM.

SHAREESE SAW TEACHERS PROVIDE POSITIVE FEEDBACK TO KIDS TO HELP STUDENTS WHEN THEY ARE FEELING MAD OR SAD TO HELP THEM FEEL BETTER.

SENECA LIKED HOW THE LUNCH LADIES COOKED AND PROVIDED LUNCH FOR US.

THE STAFF MEMBERS ARE NICE ACCORDING TO AVA.

IN CASSANDRA'S OPINION, THE TEACHERS HELP STUDENTS WHEN THEY MAKE MISTAKES.

IN MY OPINION, I FEEL THAT MY LITTLE BROTHER WILL HAVE AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE AT GLENWOOD AS WELL.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HAVING ME HERE TONIGHT.

>> HANG ON JUST A SECOND, GIRLS.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR THE STUDENTS.

>> I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT MY KIDS WENT TO GLENWOOD.

IT IS AN AMAZING SCHOOL.

>> SARAH, PAULINA YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC.

LOOK AT THIS CROWD, LOOK WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

YOU'RE STANDING IN FRONT OF 150 PEOPLE AND YOU JUST ROCKED IT.

>> YOU'RE SO WELL SPOKEN.

>> SO WELL SPOKEN, JUST OUTSTANDING, SUCH GOOD REPRESENTATIVES FOR GLENWOOD.

VERY, VERY LUCKY TO HAVE YOU HERE TONIGHT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU FOR BEING SO WELL PREPARED.

>> AS ALWAYS THANK YOU TO YOUR PARENTS BECAUSE I KNOW YOU DIDN'T GET HERE ON YOUR OWN.

I ALWAYS APPRECIATE THAT OUR PARENTS ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT THIS AND LET OUR STUDENTS COME AND SPEAK.

>> THANKS TO GLENWOOD STAFF FOR BEING HERE AND SUPPORTING THE STUDENTS TONIGHT AS WELL. THANK YOU.

>> WHO ELSE IS HERE FROM GLENWOOD?

>> THERE'S A BUNCH OF THEM BACK THERE.

>> WE ALSO HAVE STUDENTS FROM LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

>> ERIC, THANKS FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

[00:10:03]

THANK YOU GUYS FOR BEING HERE. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU.

>> MY NAME IS ERIC SAX. I'M ON THE HEAD PRINCIPAL FOR LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE A QUICK INTRODUCTION AND A THANK YOU.

AT LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL, WE CAME IN AT ABOUT 762 STUDENTS LAST WEEK.

OVER 20% OF OUR STUDENTS ARE MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS, AND OF THAT, THERE'S 14% THAT ARE NEWCOMERS.

THAT'S STUDENTS THAT ARE HERE IN THE COUNTRY FOR A YEAR OR LESS.

I JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR OUR MO PROGRAM.

I WANT TO GIVE A BIG THANK YOU AND SHOUT OUT TO LYNNELL MURRAY, WHO'S OVER OUR K-12 MO PROGRAM IN THE DISTRICT.

AS A RESULT OF YOUR GUYS EFFORTS, WE HAD A NEW CERTIFIED TEACHER, NADIA JONES LAST YEAR THAT CAME TO US AND THIS YEAR, MULTIPLE IAS THEY'RE SUPPORTING.

AS A RESULT OF THAT, WE'RE ABLE TO COHORT WITH SOME OF THESE STUDENTS IN THE GENET SETTING, AND WE'RE HAVING SOME TREMENDOUS STRETCH GROWTH THROUGH ALREADY IN OUR DATA TO PROVE THAT THE RESULTS AND THE EFFORTS ARE WORKING.

IT'S ABSOLUTELY MY HONOR AND MY PLEASURE TO STAND UP HERE WITH VERONICA, VALERIA AND SONIA.

THEY'RE HERE TO SPEAK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE OF LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL AS MULTILINGUAL LEARNERS.

>> IF THERE ARE PARENTS HERE AND YOU WANT TO TAKE PICTURES, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME UP, AND I'M SO SORRY I DIDN'T SAY THAT BEFORE.

>> GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS SONIA, AND I'M AN 8TH GRADER AT LAURIN.

I HAVE BEEN AT LAURIN FOR THREE YEARS AND I MOVED 10 YEARS AGO FROM MOLDOVA.

OUR SCHOOL IS VERY INTERESTING, AND SO THAT'S WHY I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE LAURIN MULTICULTURAL NIGHT CELEBRATION ON JUNE 6TH, FROM 6:30 P.M. TO 8.

A MULTICULTURAL NIGHT, ALL OF THE DIFFERENT CULTURES FROM LAURIN ARE REPRESENTED AND THE THEME IS FOOD TRUCKS.

IN ELL CLASS, WE DID A PROJECT ABOUT FOOD TRUCKS.

ME AND MY FRIENDS CREATED A FOOD TRUCK THAT REPRESENTS MEXICAN CULTURE.

FAMILIES CAN MAKE AND SHARE THEIR HOMEMADE FAMILY FOODS TO REPRESENT EACH OTHER'S CULTURE.

WE LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN US IF YOU ARE ABLE TO COME.

WE WILL BE SO PLEASED TO SEE YOU ALL THERE.

>> HELLO. MY NAME IS NIKA, AND I MOVED TO THE UNITED STATES FROM UKRAINE FIVE YEARS AGO.

IN LAURIN I HAVE BEEN TWO YEARS.

WHEN I JUST START GOING HERE, MY ENGLISH AND GRAMMAR WASN'T AS PERFECT AS YOU MIGHT THINK.

BUT BUT LATER ON, I'M MUCH BETTER.

WHEN OUR SCHOOL DID [INAUDIBLE] TESTING, THE TEACHERS DIDN'T PUSH DOWN ON US AND WE FINISHED [INAUDIBLE] TESTING WITH PEACE AND NO STRESS, WHICH HELPED ME TO NOT STRESS A LOT SINCE THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> HI. MY NAME IS VALERIA, AND I'M ALSO IN 8TH GRADE AND I HAVE BEEN IN LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR TWO YEARS AND IN ML PROGRAM FOR ALSO TWO YEARS.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MULTILINGUAL CLASS IS THAT OUR TEACHER, WHICH IS MISS JONES, SHE CARES FOR US LIKE WE'RE HER OWN CHILDREN.

EVERY SINGLE TEACHER AT LAURIN CARES FOR US LIKE WE'RE THEIR OWN.

WHEN I COME TO SCHOOL, I COME TO SCHOOL WITH A GOOD ATTITUDE, AND I COME KNOWING THAT MY TEACHERS CARE FOR ME AND FOR MY FUTURE.

I'M ALSO SUPER EXCITED FOR OUR NEXT EVENTS COMING UP AT LAURIN AND ONE EVENT THAT I'M GOING TO IS THE 8TH GRADE CELEBRATION, WHICH IS GOING TO BE SO GREAT.

I'M SUPER EXCITED FOR THAT.

ALSO, SOME PEOPLE MIGHT BE IN SHOCKED, BUT I'M NOT VERY EXCITED FOR HIGH SCHOOL.

BUT INSTEAD, VERY EXCITED FOR MEETING NEW PEOPLE, NEW CLASSMATES, NEW TEACHERS, AND THAT'S MOST IMPORTANT.

>> WHERE YOU GOING IN HIGH SCHOOL.

>> PRAIRIE.

>> ALL OF YOU?

>> ALL OF US, YES. THANK YOU GUYS FOR LISTENING.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD.

>> WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO A STUDENT JUST COMING INTO THE COUNTRY FOR THE FIRST TIME AND COMING TO YOUR SCHOOL.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE THEM?

>> ONE ADVICE I WOULD GIVE A STUDENT THAT JUST CAME TO AMERICA IS TO NOT BE SCARED OR TO NOT THINK THAT YOU CAN'T LEARN THE LANGUAGE.

JUST THINK POSITIVE AND ALWAYS KNOW THAT SOMEONE IS HERE TO HELP YOU LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE AND SUPPORT YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> OTHER QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR JOINING ME.

>> I JUST WANTED TO SAY, NOT ONLY THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TO REPRESENT LAURIN BUT ALSO THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TO REPRESENT OUR MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS AND FOR SHARING THAT EXPERIENCE.

ALL THREE OF YOU, AMAZING AMAZING JOB.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE TONIGHT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I BELIEVE WE ALSO HAVE A STUDENT FROM RIVER HOMELINK HERE.

[00:15:10]

>> IT'S A LOT MORE PEOPLE HERE THAN NORMAL.

HELLO, EVERYONE. MY NAME IS HOLLY.

I'M RIVER HOME LINKS ASB VICE PRESIDENT, AND I WILL BE GIVING YOU MY FINAL REPORT OF THE YEAR ON EVERYTHING RHLS ASP HAS BEEN UP TO RECENTLY.

RHLS GOT TALENT, ONE OF OUR MOST POPULAR EVENTS WAS ON APRIL 26 AND WAS AMAZING.

WE GOT TONS OF PARTICIPATION FOR THIS EVENT AND WE GOT TO SEE A LOT OF TRULY AMAZING TALENT.

IT WAS A REALLY FUN AND EXCLUSIVE EVENT WITH US SHOWCASING TALENT FROM ALL K THROUGH 12 GRADES, AND OVERALL WAS A GREAT SUCCESS.

PROM WAS ANOTHER VERY SUCCESSFUL EVENT WITH US WITH OVER 140 PEOPLE ATTENDING, WHICH FOR OUR SMALL SCHOOL IS A REALLY GREAT TURNOUT.

WE GOT LOTS OF POSITIVE FEEDBACK ON THE BEAUTIFUL VENUE, WHICH WAS AT VICTORIAN VINEYARDS, AS WELL AS THE THEME, WHICH WAS SWAN LAKE.

PERSONALLY, THIS IS THE EVENT THAT I AM MOST PROUD OF, AS IT IS EASILY THE BEST PROM WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST FEW YEARS.

THAT'S ALL I HAVE. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO ALL MY REPORTS, AND I WILL SEE YOU NEXT YEAR.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ALWAYS GOOD SEEING YOU.

>> ANY QUESTIONS FOR HOLLY?

>> I DON'T THINK SO.

>> THANK YOU, HOLLY.

>> THANK YOU.

>> ARE THERE STUDENTS FROM ANY OTHER SCHOOLS HERE THAT DIDN'T GET CALLED UP TO SPEAK? DO WE HAVE SOMEBODY COMING FORWARD? NO. JUST PEOPLE SHIFTING.

THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE. WE WILL TURN IT OVER TO JULIA FOR HER REPORT.

>> OKAY, GUYS. WE'RE GOING TO GET CRACKING WITH STATE RESULTS.

FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, I'VE BEEN KEEPING PEOPLE UPDATED ON TRACK AND FIELD STATS FOR PRAIRIE IN BATTLE GROUND.

REGIONALS HAPPEN. WE HAD A COUPLE OF PEOPLE GO TO STATE.

FOR BATTLE GROUND, WHICH IS 4A, THE BOYS 4*400 RELAY TEAM MADE IT TO STATE AND THEY GOT 21ST PLACE.

THEN CALVIN HUBBARD WENT TO STATE FOR THE 300 METER HURDLES, HE GOT 14TH.

THEN PRAIRIE HAD A LOT MORE PEOPLE GO TO STATE, AND THEY ONLY HAD INDIVIDUALS.

WILL FOSTER OF PRAIRIE, HE IS THE 3AA SHOT PUT STATE CHAMPION, AND HE GOT SECOND IN DISCUS.

IF YOU SEE HIM, LET HIM KNOW.

THE COLOMBIAN, I THINK THEY HAD INTERVIEWED HIM ALREADY. IT'S A PRETTY BIG DEAL.

THEN WY GALLIPO OF PRAIRIE ALSO GOT FOURTH IN THE SHOT PUT.

LUCY WARE OF PRAIRIE GOT 16TH IN DISCUS, AND THEN SOLOMON AGAMA GOT EIGHTH IN THE 200 AND 12TH IN LONG JUMP.

THIS IS AT STATE AND THIS IS FOR 3A.

THEN TYE ANDREW OF PRAIRIE ALSO GOT 19TH IN THE LONG JUMP.

I THINK THAT'S MORE PEOPLE.

IF I'M CORRECT, WE SENT MORE PEOPLE TO STATE THIS YEAR COLLECTIVELY THAN LAST YEAR, AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT. PRETTY COOL.

THEN AS FOR RIVER HOMELINK OUR PTO JUST HAD A BOOK FAIR AND IT WAS TAYLOR SWIFT THEME AND THEY CALL THEIR SLOGAN WAS IN MY BOOK FAIR ERA, WHICH WAS SO FUNNY.

[LAUGHTER] THEY DECORATED.

IT WAS ALL LIKE DISCO AND HOLOGRAPHIC.

IT WAS SUPER COOL. THEN WE HAD A COUPLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY SUCCESSES. MS. BOYLE IS RIGHT THERE.

SHE'S ACTUALLY HERE. SOMETIMES AGAINST OUR WILL, SHE ENTERS US IN PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITIONS.

JUST KIDDING [LAUGHTER] SHE'S UNDER A COUPLE OF PEOPLE.

THEN SOPHIE MARVIN, I DON'T THINK THE RESULTS HAVE COME BACK YET, IN HER PHOTO, IT'S CALLED THE UNFORGETTABLE GIFT.

IT'S A PHOTO THAT SHE TOOK IN MALAWI AFRICA.

IT IS COMPETING IN OSPI THE OSPI HIGH SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION OR LIKE ARCHO IN THE STATE COMPETITION, AND SHE WON AN AWARD, BUT WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS YET.

THEN JONATHAN ENDED IN A DIFFERENT ONE.

IT WAS IN THE WASHINGTON STATE HIGH SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION.

HE GOT SECOND OVERALL.

IT WAS THE ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY.

NOW HIS PHOTO WILL BE HUNG UP. WHERE?

>> AT THE SEATTLE ASIAN ART MUSEUM.

>> NEXT YEAR. IT'S A REALLY COOL PHOTO.

IT'S IN OUR NEWSLETTERS AND STUFF.

THEN IN THAT SAME PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION, [INAUDIBLE] GOT NINTH OUT OF 61 SCHOOLS.

WE HAD A LOT OF SUBMISSIONS.

THAT WAS AWESOME, BUT THAT'S ACTUALLY ALL I HAVE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THAT SHOULD CONCLUDE OUR STUDENT VOICE AND BRINGS US TO THE DISTRICT ART SHOW.

ALLISON, IF YOU WANT TO COME UP.

>> ARE WE GOING TO BRING PEOPLE UP TO THE FRONT HERE?

>> YES.

>> DO YOU WANT TO ANNOUNCE THAT ANYBODY WANTS TO TAKE PICTURES ALSO AGAIN.

>> THERE WILL BE STUDENTS COMING UP TO THE FRONT,

[00:20:02]

SO AGAIN, FOR PARENTS, IF YOU OR WHOEVER CAME TO HONOR THE STUDENTS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME UP HERE AND TAKE PICTURES.

YOU CAN WALK BEHIND US.

IT WON'T BOTHER US AT ALL, GET THE BEST ANGLE AND ENJOY, CELEBRATE THEM.

>> HI THERE. MY NAME IS ALLISON TUCHARDT, I'M DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT FOR BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AND THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING HERE.

I HOPE THAT I'M HALF AS ARTICULATE AS OUR STUDENTS WERE TODAY.

THEY DID A FABULOUS JOB.

SO THANK YOU STUDENTS.

THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BOARD MEETING OF THE SCHOOL YEAR BECAUSE WE GET TO HIGHLIGHT ALL THE AMAZING CREATIVITY THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE IN THEIR ART CLASSES.

IT IS ALSO MY FATHER WHO STARTED THE ART SHOW IN BATTLE GROUND 65 YEARS AGO, SO I LOVE THAT I GET TO CONTINUE THE LEGACY THAT HE STARTED.

THIS IS A REALLY SUPER COOL EVENT.

WE HAVE A TON OF PEOPLE HERE TODAY.

TO BE AS EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE, WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO IS I'M GOING TO CALL NAMES FOR AN ENTIRE CATEGORY.

I'M GOING TO HAVE THE STUDENTS COME UP THIS SIDE.

COME STAND UP HERE.

WE'LL HAND OUT THE AWARDS, AND THEN GO BACK THIS DIRECTION.

WE'RE GOING TO TRY TO KEEP A LOOP GOING HERE.

THEN AT THE VERY END, WE WOULD LIKE ALL STUDENTS TO COME UP AND WE'LL DO ONE LARGE GROUP PHOTO.

HOPEFULLY, WE WILL BE ABLE TO BE QUITE EFFICIENT WITH THIS AND GET GOING.

YOU SEE, ON THE SCREEN HERE, WE HAVE A COUPLE OF PICTURES, AND THIS IS OUR FEATURED ART THAT WAS ON THE WEBSITE THIS YEAR.

WE WOULD LIKE TALIA CANGUS AND CASSIDY HICKLER TO COME ON UP TO GET CERTIFICATES FOR BEING THE FEATURED ARTISTS THIS YEAR.

IF EITHER ONE OF THEM IS IN ROOM, COME ON UP. [APPLAUSE]

>> JUST STAND RIGHT HERE ON THE STAIRS, IT WILL BE GREAT.

>> TALIA, WHICH ONE IS TALIA? TALIA, THIS IS YOUR CERTIFICATE, AND CASSIDY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, CONGRATULATION.

[APPLAUSE] OUR NEXT CATEGORY IS THE HONORABLE MENTION CATEGORY, AND WE HAVE A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT RECEIVED HONORABLE MENTION.

WE WEREN'T ABLE TO DO POSTERS IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM FOR ALL OF THEM, BUT I BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE ON THE SLIDE SHOW AT THE BEGINNING.

IF YOU WERE HERE AT THE BEGINNING, YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN YOUR ARTWORK SCROLLING THROUGH.

HOPEFULLY, WE'LL BE ABLE TO SHOW THAT AGAIN OR MAYBE POSTED ON THE WEBSITE OR SOMETHING, SO YOU'LL BE ABLE TO SEE IT LATER.

WE HAVE FIFTH GRADERS, OUR FIFTH GRADE HONORABLE MENTION WINNERS ARE MARLEY GORMAN, EMBERLYNN HUFFSTUTTER, GAEL LARA-CEJA, AND EMERY STENERSEN.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUAL SUPPORT OF THE ARTS, AND HAVE A WONDERFUL EVENING.

TAKE A SECOND TO ENJOY THE ART AT THE BACK, BUT I DO BELIEVE WE ARE GOING TO TRANSITION INTO THE REST OF THE BOARD MEETING.

>> DON'T FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO STAY.

>> YES. YOU DO NOT NEED TO STAY FOR ANY MORE OF THE BOARD MEETING.

>> DO YOU WANT TO PAUSE FOR TWO MINUTES?

>> YEAH, LET'S PAUSE FOR TWO MINUTES.

>> STILL IN COMMUNICATIONS, WE ARE GOING TO RECOGNIZE THE ATHLETE ATHLETIC SIGNINGS RECOGNITION AND TOM ADAMS IS GOING TO COME FORWARD.

JUST WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO RECOGNIZE.

THIS IS A VISION OF DIRECTOR CHAMPAGNE AND A REALLY GOOD ONE.

AS DIRECTORS, WE DON'T OFTEN GET TO DO SOME REALLY COOL THINGS.

WE GET TO DO A LOT OF COOL THINGS, BUT THIS IS A REALLY COOL THING THAT TED HAD ON HIS OWN.

THANK YOU FOR THINKING OF THIS.

IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THESE ATHLETES. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING, BOARD AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

AS WHAT'S JUST SAID, WE ARE RECOGNIZING OUR STUDENT ATHLETES WHO ARE MOVING ON TO PLAY COLLEGE SPORTS.

JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT.

THERE IS LESS THAN 7% OF HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES WHO MOVE ON TO PLAY COLLEGE SPORTS.

THIS IS A RARE GROUP BETWEEN PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE WE COMPETE, SOME OF THESE STUDENTS MAY BE AT RIVER OR AT ONE OF OUR ALE SCHOOLS.

AT THIS POINT, WE HAVE 22 INDIVIDUALS MOVING ON.

I THINK I SAID STUDENT ATHLETES.

TONIGHT THE EMPHASIS IS THE ATHLETE.

THEY ARE VERY COMMITTED TO BEING ABLE TO MOVE ON BOTH IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN THEIR SPORT THAT THEY PARTICIPATE IN.

I WOULD SAY SOME OF OUR ATHLETES, THE ATHLETE COMES FIRST AND THE MOTIVATION IS TO BE A STUDENT SO THAT THEY CAN MOVE ON.

WITH THAT, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE THE TWO HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC DIRECTORS FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, STEPHANIE WATT AND FROM BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, KIRSTEN TALBOT, TO INTRODUCE THEIR ATHLETE.

>> FIRST OFF, I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO TED FOR STARTING SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.

WHEN WE HAVE ATHLETES THAT ARE ABLE TO GO ONTO THAT NEXT LEVEL, LIKE TOM WAS SAYING, IT'S REALLY FUN TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THEM.

WE STARTED DOING SIGNING DAYS.

THEY'VE BEEN GOING ON NOW FOR QUITE SOME TIME.

THIS YEAR, WE WERE FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO HONOR 13.

WE'RE DOING FOUR OF THOSE 13 TOMORROW WHO HAVE JUST NOW FIGURED OUT THAT THEY PICKED THE SCHOOL THAT THEY'RE GOING TO ATTEND AND COMPETE AT THAT NEXT LEVEL, SO WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED FOR THEM.

THEN THIS YEAR WE HAD A RIVER HOMELINK STUDENT WHO PLAYS FOR A PRAIRIE, BUT SHE DECIDED TO DO HER SIGNING AT RIVER HOMELINK.

THAT WAS PRETTY EXCITING FOR HER AS WELL.

I WAS ABLE TO WORK WITH RIVER ON ALL OF THE PROCESSES THAT WE DO THERE.

UNFORTUNATELY, I DON'T SEE ANY.

PRAIRIE KIDS THAT WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT TONIGHT.

THEY'RE REALLY CLOSE TO WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THEIR SENIOR YEAR RIGHT NOW AND THERE'S A COUPLE THAT ARE COMPETING IN SOME OTHER EVENTS TONIGHT AS WELL.

WE'LL DEFINITELY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY REMEMBER THIS IN THE FUTURE, AND HOPEFULLY, WE CAN CONTINUE TO DO THIS.

UM. AS YOU CAN SEE, I DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH.

DO YOU WANT ME TO GO THROUGH EACH OF THE KIDS AND WHERE THEY'RE GOING, OR DO YOU WANT TO JUST READ THAT THROUGH.

>> WATCHING THE SLIDE SHOW IS FINE.

>> I WILL TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY. I HAVE ONE ATHLETE HERE TONIGHT AND ZOE HUGHES IS HERE. COME ON, ZOE.

>> COME ON, ZOE.

>> SOMETHING REALLY EXCITING ABOUT ZOE IS SHE HAS BEEN OUR STARTING PITCHER FOR THE SOFTBALL TEAM THIS YEAR.

THEY JUST COMPETED IN THE STATE TOURNAMENT LAST WEEKEND, AND SHE DID A HECK OF A JOB.

WE HAD [INAUDIBLE] IN A LOSER OUT GAME, COME ON, EVERYBODY, BUT THEY PLAYED REALLY WELL.

IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN TO WATCH ZOE PLAY THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

NEXT YEAR, SHE'S GOING TO LOWER COLUMBIA COLLEGE TO PLAY SOFTBALL.

>> CONGRATULATIONS.

[00:40:01]

>> CONGRATS ON A GREAT SEASON.

>> THANKS, TOM.

>> NICE PRESENTATION.

>> THAT WAS GOOD.

>> VERY GOOD. WE CAN SHARE THAT WITH THE ED SO THAT YOU HAVE IT AND YOU CAN MAYBE SHOW IT TO THE ATHLETES SO THAT THEY KNOW THAT THEY WERE RECOGNIZED AT TONIGHT'S BOARD MEETING.

PERFECT. THANK YOU GUYS FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THAT BRINGS US TO THE BORING PART OF THE MEETING, I GUESS.

[LAUGHTER]

>> IT'S NOT MY TURN YET.

[LAUGHTER]

>> WELL, HERE NEXT, WE HAVE REALLY EXITING COMMITTEE REPORTS.

WE WILL START WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

DIRECTOR SNITLEY. NO REPORT.

SEE HOW EXCITING THAT WAS? NO REPORT. [LAUGHTER] HOW ABOUT AN AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT?

>> WE HAVE NOT HAD OUR NEXT ONE YET.

>> FANTASTIC. WE'RE ON A ROLE.

BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

>> THE BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION IS FOCUSING ON THE SIMPLE PLEASURES EVENTS THAT'S COMING UP, DESTINATION GRADUATION.

IT'S GOING TO BE AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER.

THEY HAVE GOT SOME AMAZING THINGS PLANNED.

THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A PHOTO BOOTH, PLAYMAKER BAR.

THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE A SILENT AUCTION WITH BASKETS, GOING TO BE 45-50 BASKETS, A SILENT AUCTION.

A DESSERT DASH, HEADS AND TAILS, MYSTERY BOXES.

SOUNDS LIKE A REALLY EXCITING TIME.

I HOPE ALL OF THE COMMUNITY AND EVERYONE WILL COME AND JOIN IN OCTOBER 5, COMING SOON.

>> IS IT OKAY IF I ADD A COUPLE OF THINGS?

>> YES.

>> THEY ARE HAVING A MAY GIVEAWAY RIGHT NOW.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MAYBE WINNING SOME RIDGEFIELD RAPTORS TICKETS.

THEY ARE RAFFLING OFF FREE TO JOIN IN, INCLUDE SIX TICKETS TO A HOME GAME.

JUST GO TO THEIR WEBSITE OR FACEBOOK LINKS.

THEN WE JUST SET THE DATE FOR STUFF THE BUS, AUGUST 17.

WE WILL BE AT FRED MEYER AND BATTLE GROUND AGAIN, AS WELL AS WALMART IN BATTLE GROUND TO GET SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THEN RECENTLY, THEY JUST SHARED YOU CAN LINK YOUR FRED MEYER CARD AND THE FOUNDATION WILL GET DONATIONS FROM THEM IF YOU SHOP FOR FRED MEYER.

I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE ALL OF THAT.

GO SIGN UP FOR THOSE FOR YOUR RAPTORS TICKETS BECAUSE WHY NOT CATCH A BASEBALL GAME? THAT WOULD BE FUN.

THEN DIRECTOR TATE IS JOINING AS OUR BOARD REP.

THAT SWITCH HAPPENS IN JUNE.

DIRECTOR JOHNSON WILL BE ON THE AUDIT COMMITTEE AND DIRECTOR TATE WILL NOW BE OUR REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

SO WE WILL BE GETTING REPORTS GOING FORWARD FROM HIM.

NEXT, WE HAVE WIAA.

>> I WASN'T ABLE TO TEND TO LAST MINUTE WORK CONFLICT, BUT I DID MANAGE TO GET THE LINK ON THE AGENDA FOR THE INTERVIEW RIGHT THERE.

YOU GUYS SHARED? YOU SHARED IT OR MARY? I FORGET.

>> IT'S ON THERE NOW AND IT'S RECORD, SO THAT WAS A GOOD WATCH ACTUALLY, SO THANKS FOR THE RECOMMENDATION ON THAT.

>> COOL. TOURS COMMITTEE.

WE HAD TWO OUR FINAL TOURS FOR THE YEAR.

WE HAD GROUP 1 AT CHIEF UMTUCH.

>> WE DID. IT WAS A WONDERFUL TOUR AS THEY ALL ARE.

I WAS VERY PLEASED TO SEE SOME INTENTIONAL WORK BEING DONE ON STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN THE CLASSROOM, DATA BEING COLLECTED AND A COORDINATED EFFORT TO INCREASE STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN EACH AND EVERY CLASSROOM.

AND WHEN WE VISITED THE CLASSROOMS, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT'S HAPPENING.

THERE'S A CULTURE OF ENGAGEMENT, AND I LOVED SEEING OUR NEW CURRICULUMS IN PLACE, THE SCIENCE CURRICULUM.

THERE WAS A LAB THAT WAS FASCINATING AND ALSO THE ELA CURRICULUM IN PLACE.

CHRISTINA AND GAVIN, OUR STUDENT REPS THERE DID A FABULOUS JOB OF SHOWING US AROUND AND EXPLAINING HOW SAFE THEY FEEL IN THE SCHOOL AND ALL THE DIFFERENT ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITIES THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR KIDS THERE.

SO REALLY GOOD TO HER.

>> WE DISCUSSED AT LENGTH SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND THE TIERED INTERVENTIONS FOR PBIS.

I WAS VERY INTERESTED TO HEAR THE PROGRESS AND THE EXTENT THAT THEY WERE MOVING FORWARD ON ALL OF THAT.

[00:45:04]

THEY ASKED A QUESTION OF THESE TWO STUDENT REPS THAT WERE WITH US.

THEY SAID, WHAT MAKES CHIEF GREAT? I THOUGHT THAT IS VERY ZAPPY WHAT THEY SAID.

VERY IMPORTANT. FIRST THING, WAS THAT THEY SAID HOW POSITIVE AND AVAILABLE THE ADULT INTERACTIONS WERE.

I GOT A REAL BIG KUDOS ON THEIR TEACHERS AND CONNECTIONS THAT THEY WERE MAKING WITH THEIR THEIR STAFF, THE INSTRUCTORS.

AND THEN THEY TALKED QUITE A BIT ABOUT AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND THE ENGAGEMENT THAT THEY WERE FINDING IN THAT AND HOW HOW EXCITED THEY WERE ABOUT ALL OF THOSE ACTIVITIES THAT THEY HAD TO CHOOSE FROM THAT THEY WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN.

ONE THING THAT WAS SAID THAT WAS REALLY SIGNIFICANT WAS THAT SOME OF THESE ACTIVITIES, THEY MENTIONED, PARTICULARLY THE PLAY ALLOWED THEM TO MAKE CONNECTION WITH KIDS AND OTHER GRADE LEVELS.

I THINK THERE'S SOMETHING IN THAT THAT WE NEED TO CONSIDER THAT WE DON'T DO ENOUGH.

WE HAVE THESE CAMPUSES THAT ACTUALLY K THROUGH EIGHT ON THE SAME PROPERTIES.

THERE'S SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR MAYBE CONNECTIONS BEING MADE SOMEHOW AND THESE KIDS REALLY VALUED WHAT THE PLAY ALLOWED THEM TO DO TOGETHER WITH LOWER GRADES AND UPPER GRADES CONNECTED WITH EACH OTHER. VERY IMPRESSIVE.

>> THANKS. OUR NEXT TOUR WAS GROUP 2 AT CAPTAIN STRONG.

>> I WASN'T ABLE TO ATTEND.

I THINK DEBBIE, YOU MIGHT HAVE BEEN [OVERLAPPING]

>> I DID ATTEND. THE PLC IS GOING WELL.

STUDENTS WERE ENGAGING AND LEARNING.

THERE WERE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE STUDENTS WHEN THEY CAME OUT OF THE PANDEMIC.

A LOT OF TIMES THE KIDS ARE STRUGGLING LIKE UNSTRUCTURED TIMES LIKE PLAYGROUND.

BUT THEY'RE SEEING SOME IMPROVEMENTS.

TIME GOES ON AND THE STUDENTS GET USED TO HAVING THOSE OPPORTUNITIES.

THEY TOOK A BIG LEAP AND TOOK THE ENTIRE SCHOOL TO THE ZOO AND SHE MENTIONED THAT THE STUDENTS WERE SO GRATEFUL.

SHE SAID SHE HEARD SO MANY THANK YOUS.

PARENTS WERE GRATEFUL.

THERE WERE SOME KIDS THAT STAYED HOME.

PARENTS WEREN'T COMFORTABLE WITH THE TRAVELING, BUT THEY JUST HAD A MARVELOUS TIME, WAS A LOT OF LEARNING AFTERWARDS.

JUST HAD A GREAT TIME.

WE MET WITH THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR.

SHE DOES 16 GROUPS, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS PRETTY AMAZING.

VARIOUS TOPICS.

FEELS LIKE THE KIDS ARE REALLY GATHERING AND GAINING A LOT OF EMOTIONAL STRENGTH FROM THESE GROUPS.

WE ALSO LOOKED AT AN AMAZING WALL MURAL THAT HAD BEEN DONE SOME TIME AGO, AND IT WAS BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT THE STUDENTS WERE INVOLVED WITH IT.

THEY USED Q-TIPS.

THERE'S THESE LITTLE DOTS ALL OVER THE WALL THAT ARE PART OF THE MURAL AND THE STUDENTS ACTUALLY PARTICIPATED IN THAT MURAL, WHICH IT WAS JUST AMAZING TO SIT AND LOOK, IT'S BEAUTIFUL.

WE ALSO WALKED INTO A KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

THE CHILDREN WERE LEARNING ABOUT HOW PEOPLE COMMUNICATE, AND IT WAS REALLY COOL.

THIS LITTLE KINDERGARTENER SAYS THEY HAVE BEN FRANKLIN WAS UP ON THE WALL UP ON THE VIDEO, AND HE BLURTS OUT, HEY, BEN FRANKLIN'S ON $100 BILL.

I JUST THOUGHT THAT WAS AMAZING FOR A KINDERGARTENER TO PUT THAT CONNECTION TOGETHER.

[LAUGHTER] I WAS LIKE, WOW. THE TEACHER GOT EXCITED.

SHE'S GOING TO ACTUALLY GET $100 BILL FOR THEM TO LOOK AT.

SHE'S LIKE, I DON'T HAVE A $100 IN MY PURSE, BUT I'M GOING TO GET ONCE YOU CAN I SEE IT.

THIS LITTLE KINDERGARTENER WAS SO EXCITED TO THINK HE'S GOING TO GET TO SEE THAT.

WE VISITED THE RESOURCE ROOM.

THERE WAS VARIOUS DISABILITIES IN THE ROOM, BUT THE ROOM WAS SO CALM AND I'VE TAUGHT IN A SPECIAL ED CLASS AND INTEGRATED, SO CALM AND PEACEFUL.

EVERY ONE OF THEM WERE ENGAGING, DOING SOMETHING, HAPPY.

IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

TEACHER WAS AMAZING.

ONE LITTLE BOY CONTINUED TO TURN THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF, PROBABLY ABOUT 20 TIMES WHEN WE WERE THERE.

VERY CALMLY, SAID, PLEASE DON'T TURN THE LIGHTS OFF.

WE CAN'T SEE WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE OFF, BUT IT'S DARK.

AND HE JUST IN LAUGHED AND RUN AWAY AND THEN HE'D RUN OVER THE LIGHTS AGAIN AND TURN THEM ON.

SHE WAS SO PATIENT, THAT'S SUPER GREAT.

I COULD GO ON AND ON ABOUT ALL THE OTHER THINGS WE SAW.

I DID ASK THE PRINCIPAL AT THE END, IF SHE HAD ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS OF SOMETHING SHE'D LIKE TO SEE AND SHE SAID,

[00:50:05]

SHE WOULD LOVE FOR THE DISTRICT TO CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF LEARNING FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE DIFFICULTY SITTING DOWN AT A DESK.

I THINK THAT IS AMAZING BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW BOYS DON'T SIT AT DESKS WELL.

[LAUGHTER] I THINK WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THAT AS A BOY, HOW WE CAN MAYBE THINK OF OTHER WAYS FOR THEM TO LEARN.

IT WAS REALLY FUN. I ENJOYED IT.

>> THAT TAKES US TO DIRECTOR REPORTS.

DO YOU HAVE ANY DIRECTORY REPORTS?

>> I MADE IT TO THE FLOWER SALE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I WAS LATE, UNFORTUNATELY, AND THERE WASN'T MUCH LEFT.

THERE WAS LIKE TWO HANGING BASKETS BY NOON.

THEY WERE SOLD OUT FAST.

LESSON LEARNED, GET THERE AT 7:30 AND GET IN LINE, I GUESS.

>> THAT WRAPS THAT UP.

[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

WE ARE ON TO SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

>> THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO MENTION THAT LAST WEEK I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE CASCADIA TECHNICAL ACADEMY'S 2024 DISTINGUISHED GRADUATES PRESENTATION THAT WAS HELD AT CASCADIA TECH, AND I JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT THAT WE HAD SEVERAL STUDENTS RECOGNIZED.

THERE ARE CURRENTLY 14 DIFFERENT AREAS OF STUDY AT CASCADIA, AND SIX OF THOSE AREAS WERE NAMED BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS AS THEIR OUTSTANDING STUDENTS.

WE HAD TWO STUDENTS FROM CAM ACADEMY, TWO STUDENTS FROM RIVER HOMELINK, ONE STUDENT FROM BATTLE GROUND AND ONE STUDENT FROM PRAIRIE WHO WERE RECOGNIZED.

OUTSTANDING, AND I BELIEVE THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE NAMED AND FEATURED IN ONE OF OUR UPCOMING SCHOOL BULLETINS THAT WE PUT OUT SO I WON'T GO THROUGH THE VARIOUS NAMES RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WAS VERY COOL TO SEE SO MANY.

WE CERTAINLY WERE THE DISTRICT THAT HAD THE MOST RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING STUDENTS, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THOSE STUDENTS AND CONGRATULATIONS TO BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR HAVING THAT RECOGNITION.

THE OTHER THING THAT I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT IS THAT OUR GRADUATIONS ARE COMING UP.

WE HAVE THREE GRADUATIONS NEXT WEEK BEGINNING ON WEDNESDAY, AND THOSE GRADUATIONS WILL BE, ON THE 5TH, WE HAVE RIVER HOMELINK, ON THE 6TH, WE HAVE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND ON FRIDAY THE 7TH, WE HAVE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

THOSE GRADUATIONS RIGHT NOW, WE WILL BE DETERMINING WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, AND THAT DETERMINATION WILL COME ON FRIDAY.

AS I LOOK AT THE LONG RANGE FORECAST, WE ARE LOOKING GOOD, SO THERE'S A THUMBS UP WITH THE PROBABILITY OF HAVING THEM OUTSIDE.

OUTSIDE IS CERTAINLY BETTER BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE ROOM AND EVERYBODY CAN COME.

IF WE GO INSIDE, IT'LL BE AT THE BATTLE GROUND GYMNASIUM AND THAT LIMITS OUR ATTENDEES TO SIX PER FAMILY.

WHEREAS IF WE'RE OUTSIDE, AS I SAID BEFORE, IT'S EVERYBODY CAN GO.

WE'RE HOPING THAT THE WEATHER COMES OUT.

AGAIN, WE'LL MAKE THAT ANNOUNCEMENT ON FRIDAY.

THEN THE FOLLOWING WEEK, BEGINNING ON THE 10TH, THE 11TH AND THE 12TH, MONDAY, TUESDAY, AND WEDNESDAY, ON THE TENTH, THE CAM GRADUATION WILL BE HELD, THE 11TH, THE SUMMIT VIEW GRADUATION WILL BE HELD, AND ON THE 12TH, THE BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY WILL HAVE THEIR FIRST GRADUATION.

BUT THOSE GRADUATIONS WILL BE HELD INDOORS AT THE PRAIRIE AUDITORIUM, SO NOT WEATHER AFFECTED.

VERY MUCH I KNOW OUR FAVORITE TIMES OF THE YEAR, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WITH THAT, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO TEACHING AND LEARNING AND SHELLY WOOD.

>> JUST A COUPLE OF QUICK UPDATES FOR YOU, BOARD.

I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WE DID APPLY FOR THE WAIVER WITH OSPI FOR TWO DAYS NEXT YEAR IN ORDER TO MEET WITH STAFF ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SPECIFICALLY OUR CONTINUED WORK TOGETHER IN PLCS TO GROW OUR SKILLS IN MEETING THE NEEDS OF VARIOUS LEARNERS.

WE DID RECEIVE THAT, SO WE HAVE A NEW CALENDAR OUT ON THE WEBSITE, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT FOR YOU TO REVIEW.

[00:55:03]

THE OTHER THING, I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY DURING THE TEACHING AND LEARNING REPORT, IF YOU HAD ANY QUESTIONS, YOU'LL NOTICE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT WE HAVE THE HIGH CAP PLAN THAT WE NEED TO TURN INTO OSPI.

LYNNELL MURRAY IS HERE, IN CASE YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT.

AS YOU PROBABLY KNOW THAT PLAN IS REQUIRED TO BE SUBMITTED TO OSPI AND NEEDS YOUR APPROVAL IN ORDER TO DO THAT.

JUST IN CASE YOU HAD ANY QUESTIONS, I THOUGHT I WOULD PUT THAT IN FRONT OF YOU SINCE IT'S ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

NO? THAT'S IT FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING.

>> NEXT, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO OUR HR DEPARTMENT AND OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MICHELLE REINHART.

>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD. JUST A FEW THINGS TO SHARE WITH YOU.

WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE ENGAGED IN NEGOTIATIONS FOR THE EXTRACURRICULAR CONTRACT, THAT'S OUR COACHES CONTRACT AND ACTIVITIES CONTRACT.

THAT EXPIRES AT THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

AFTER MEETING FOR 3-4 TIMES, THEY REACHED A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT, SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED THAT THAT HAS BEEN WRAPPED UP.

IT'S CURRENTLY IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RATIFIED.

THE MEMBERS OF THAT BARGAINING TEAM WERE TOM ADAMS AND LUKE LECOUNT FROM DISTRICT OFFICE, CANDY HERRERA AND KIM BECKER WERE THE BGA LEADERSHIP, AND THEN WE HAD THREE TEACHERS WHO WERE ON THAT BARGAINING TEAM, KEVIN DONOVAN, BLAKE BOWERS, AND LEA ZIKA.

THEY COMMITTED QUITE A BIT OF TIME TO THAT PROCESS.

ADDITIONALLY, WE REACHED AN AGREEMENT WITH OUR MULTILINGUAL MOU.

AT THE END OF OUR LAST BARGAINING SESSION WITH THE CERTIFICATED CONTRACT, WE CAME TO THE REALIZATION THAT THERE WAS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION THAT WE NEEDED TO GATHER REGARDING OUR MULTILINGUAL PROGRAM.

IT'S DIFFICULT TO PUT LANGUAGE IN PLACE WHEN YOU DON'T FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PROGRAM REALLY IS ALL ABOUT.

IN THE BGA CONTRACT, THERE IS LANGUAGE THAT SAYS THAT A TASK-FORCE WILL BE CREATED AND TO IDENTIFY BEST PRACTICE IN THE AREA OF MULTILINGUAL PROGRAMS. THAT TASK-FORCE WAS COMPRISED WITH MULTILINGUAL TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT, LYNNELL MURRAY HEADED THAT UP AND HAD SOME REPRESENTATION FROM OSPI.

THEY BARGAINED THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS, AND WE ARE HAPPY TO SAY THAT WE CAME TO AN AGREEMENT IT HAS BEEN RATIFIED AND APPROVED.

THE PEOPLE WHO REPRESENTED THAT BARGAINING TEAM WERE VANESSA SAGER AND AMBER BUSHAW.

THEY ARE BOTH MULTILINGUAL TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT, AND LYNNELL MURRAY DID QUITE A BIT OF WORK WITH THAT, AND THEN CANDY HERRERA AND KIM BECKER WERE ALSO A PART OF ALL OF THAT.

THOSE ARE THE TWO MAJOR AREAS.

IT'S A LOT OF WORK THAT GOES INTO PLANNING, AND NEGOTIATING, AND BARGAINING, AND SO JUST A BIG THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE WHO WERE INVOLVED WITH BOTH OF THOSE CONTRACTS. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> NEXT UP. MICHELLE SCOTT.

FINANCE. [LAUGHTER]

>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT I'VE INCLUDED IN THE FINANCE REPORT, THE ENROLLMENT REPORT FOR THE MONTHS OF MARCH AND APRIL.

I WON'T GO THROUGH IT BECAUSE THERE HASN'T BEEN MUCH CHANGE AND I'D LIKE TO DO AN END OF THE YEAR WRAP UP FOR YOU WHEN WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR JUNE COUNTS, AND I'LL REPORT BACK TO YOU THEN, BUT I DO WANT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU SO THAT YOU COULD JUST SEE HOW THE ENROLLMENT IS PROGRESSING. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> MR. JOMA, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR OPERATIONS?

>> YEAH, REAL QUICK. AS DENNY ALLUDED TO, I'M PRETTY MUCH GETTING READY FOR GRADUATIONS COMING UP, AND I'LL BE UP LATER TO SHARE TWO MORE PROJECTS.

>> THANK YOU. NOTHING FROM COMMUNICATION, SO THAT CONCLUDES SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

>> THANK YOU. NEXT UP, WE'LL HAVE OUR CITIZEN'S COMMENTS,

[7. Citizens' Comments]

AND WE'LL SEE IF SOMEBODY SIGNED UP.

JULIA, ARE YOU ABLE TO DO THAT? PERFECT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[01:00:02]

>> [INAUDIBLE] TALK.

>> WE HAVE FOUR CITIZENS SIGNED UP TO SPEAK.

WE DO ASK THAT YOU LIMIT TO THREE MINUTES.

JULIA WILL GIVE A 30 SECOND WARNING AS WELL AS THE RED WAVE WHEN YOUR TIME IS UP.

WE WILL ALSO HAVE IT ON THE SCREEN AS WELL OUT OF THE CORNER OF YOUR EYE, AND IF YOU GO OVER, I WILL TRY TO VERY NICELY INTERRUPT YOU.

I'M NOT VERY GOOD AT IT, BUT I'LL TRY.

WE JUST WANT TO BE RESPECTFUL AND MAKE SURE EVERYBODY GETS ENOUGH TIME TO SPEAK.

FIRST UP, WE HAVE JENNIFER HEINE-WITHEE.

>> JENNIFER, YOU CAN PUT THOSE FLOWERS DOWN ON THE SIDE THERE, THAT MAKES IT EASIER FOR YOU. I APOLOGIZE.

>> I WAS GOING TO USE THEM AS A PRO.

>> YOU CAN TAKE THEM HOME.

>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

I WANT TO JUST APOLOGIZE UP FRONT, I HAVE BEEN FIGHTING A COLD.

>> YOU AND JACKIE CAN BE TOGETHER.

>> I'M A LITTLE HOARSE THIS EVENING.

BUT FOR MANY MONTHS, WE'VE BEEN COMING UP TO YOU AND ASKING FOR THE LIBRARY POLICY TO BE REVISED TO REFLECT THE POLICY CONCERNING MEDIA IN ORDER TO KEEP PORNOGRAPHY OUT OF THE SCHOOL LIBRARIES.

WE'VE TESTIFIED ABOUT THE DAMAGES DONE TO THE DEVELOPING MINDS OF MINORS WHEN THEY ARE EXPOSED TO EROTIC MATERIAL.

WE'VE SHOWN THAT IS THE POSITION OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM OBSCENE MATERIAL, AND HAVE SHOWN THAT REFLECTED IN STATE LAW.

WE'VE ALSO GIVEN EXAMPLES OF EROTIC MATERIAL THAT IS CURRENTLY IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES AND DEMONSTRATED HOW THE CURRENT POLICY IS INSUFFICIENT TO KEEP THEM OUT OF THE HANDS OF STUDENTS IF A PARENT DOESN'T WANT THEIR CHILD TO READ ANY OF THESE BOOKS.

THERE'S NOTHING TO KEEP THESE BOOKS AWAY FROM CHILDREN.

IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD TO PASS A POLICY THAT STATES NO PORN IN THE LIBRARIES.

IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS DIFFICULT TO SAY, IF YOU CAN'T SHOW IT ON A CHROMEBOOK OR READ IT IN A CLASSROOM, IT SHOULDN'T GO IN THE LIBRARY.

AT LEAST THREE STATES HAVE LAWS TO KEEP PORNOGRAPHIC BOOKS OUT OF THE SCHOOL LIBRARIES.

WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE SAME.

I'VE NOW BEEN TOLD THAT OVER 60 BOOKS THAT ARE IN QUESTION ARE TO GO THROUGH A PROCESS OF RECONSIDERATION, AND THAT THE DISTRICT HAS PURCHASED COPIES FOR EACH MEMBER OF THE IRC, AND THIS PROCESS WILL TAKE OVER FIVE YEARS.

MEANWHILE, NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO KEEP PORN OUT OF LIBRARIES.

WHERE IS THE CONCERN FOR THE MINDS AND WELL-BEING OF OUR KIDS.

SCHOOLS ARE A PLACE WHERE STUDENTS SHOULD BE LEARNING, READING, WRITING, MATH, HISTORY, SCIENCE, AND ENGLISH.

IT'S A PLACE OF KNOWLEDGE AND EDIFICATION.

HOW ARE BOOKS SUCH AS TRICKS, A STORY OF UNDERAGE PROSTITUTES TRYING TO LEARN ABOUT LOVE ON THE STREETS, EDIFYING? IT'S NOT.

IT'S MY OPINION THAT IF THE PARENTS, SUCH AS THE ONES THAT WERE IN HERE EARLIER, KNEW THAT BOOKS LIKE THIS WERE AVAILABLE TO THEIR KIDS IN THE LIBRARIES.

THERE WOULD BE OUTRAGE, AND THIS ROOM WOULD HAVE BEEN PACKED.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR LISTENING, AND PLEASE CONSIDER AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE POLICY. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. EUNICE INGERMANSON.

>> GOOD EVENING, BOARD. MY NAME IS EUNICE.

MY PRONOUNS ARE SHE, HER, AND I LIVE IN THIS DISTRICT.

I WISH I COULD SPEAK AS WELL AS THOSE LITTLE FOURTH GRADERS.

I'M HERE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE ARTS ALIVE IN OUR SCHOOLS: DRAWING, PAINTING, CERAMICS, METAL ARTS, PHOTOGRAPHY, MUSIC OF ALL SORTS, DRAMA, ETC.

WHEN I HIT PUBERTY, FEARS AND ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION TOOK HOLD OF ME LIKE NEVER BEFORE.

I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT UNTIL I HIT PUBERTY.

[01:05:06]

LIFE BECAME VERY DIFFICULT, AND MY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL YEARS WERE THE TOUGHEST YEARS OF MY LIFE AND I WOULD NOT LIKE TO GO BACK TO THAT TIME.

I STUDIED VERY HARD BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WOULD DIE IF I PLAYED SECOND.

BUT I SANG IN CHOIR, I SANG IN A GIRLS TRIO COMPOSED MUSIC, AND THESE THINGS MADE ME FEEL ALIVE.

LITERALLY, THIS IS HOW I SURVIVED MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.

ARTS SAVE LIVES.

SOME PEOPLE SAY JUST CONCENTRATE ON READING, WRITING, AND ARITHMETIC.

FOR SOME PEOPLE, ENGLISH AND MATH AND HISTORY, THEY ARE THE PASSION IN THEIR LIVES AND THEY GIVE THEM CAREER LATER AND SO ON.

FOR INSTANCE, MY HUSBAND WORKS AS A SOFTWARE ENGINEER AND A NOVELIST, AND HE WAKES UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT CODING IN HIS HEAD.

I STAY UP LATE TO PRACTICE MUSIC AND DOODLE WITH MY CALLIGRAPHY PEN.

THE GSA KIDS THAT I TALK TO QUITE A BIT, A LOT OF THEM ARE IN DRAMA AND ARTS.

3R FOR THEM, FOR MANY OF US, ARE A TOOL FOR THE THINGS THAT WE LOVE.

THANK YOU FOR GIVING OUR KIDS A FOREVER GIFT THAT IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF THEIR LIVES.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, EUNICE.

>> JESSICA COLE.

>> LONG WALK. HELLO, SCHOOL BOARD.

MY NAME'S JESSICA COLE.

I'M A RESIDENT, HAD KIDS IN THE DISTRICT.

I'M WITH A NEW ORGANIZATION CALLED EVOKE CASCADIA, AND ONE THING THAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING IS GIVING OUT RAINBOW GRADUATION CORDS TO THE SCHOOLS TO GIVE TO THEIR LGBTQ SENIORS THAT ARE JUST ABOUT TO GRADUATE, AND IT'S BEEN NICE TO ENGAGE WITH SOME OF THE COUNSELORS OR TEACHERS OR WHATEVER IN THE DISTRICT AND TO HEAR THE STORIES ABOUT HOW THE STUDENTS ARE JUST REALLY STOKED ABOUT HAVING THAT, ESPECIALLY THIS LAST MONTH, IT'S LIKE, CAN WE MAKE IT? THEY'VE BEEN EXCITED TO GET THOSE AND SOME OTHER LITTLE GOODIES.

I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT TODAY, THAT THE CLARK COUNTY COUNCIL GAVE A PRIOR PROCLAMATION FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW SHOWING SUPPORT TO LGBTQ INDIVIDUALS.

ALSO A WELL-KNOWN COMMUNITY MEMBER WANTED ME TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL THAT IF THE DISTRICT EVER DOES CHOOSE TO BAN ANY BOOKS, THAT THEY WILL BE PURCHASING $1,000 WORTH OF THOSE BOOKS AND DISTRIBUTING THEM. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. BUFFY SPARGER.

>> HI, GOOD EVENING. I'M BUFFY SPARGER, MY DAUGHTER IS A FRESHMAN AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

I'M HERE TODAY TO ENCOURAGE THE BOARD TO REVIEW AND CONSIDER REVISING THE CURRENT BOARD POLICY IN REGARD TO LIBRARY BOOKS.

THIS IS NOT NEW TO ANYONE HERE ON THE BOARD THAT I AM AND OTHERS ARE AND HAVE DEEP CONCERNS TO SELECT BOOKS IN THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL AND BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIES.

IT HAS BEEN REVEALED THAT APPROXIMATELY 75 BOOKS IN EACH LIBRARY CONTAIN ERRATICALLY WRITTEN SITUATIONS FROM ONE LEVEL TO ANOTHER, THAT IN READING THESE SECTIONS DEMONSTRATES THE INTENTION OF THE AUTHOR TO THE READER TO PROVIDE WORDS AND DESCRIPTIONS THAT GIVE A MENTAL IMAGERY MEANT TO SEXUALLY AROUSE.

THESE TWO HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARIANS HAVE SELECTED AND PROVIDED THESE BOOKS TO MINORS, WHICH IS A WHOLE OTHER PROBLEM IN AND OF ITSELF.

I WILL NOT GO INTO THE DAMAGE THAT THIS CAN PROPAGATE TO MINOR CHILDREN AND THAT HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THIS BOARD ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, AND WE'LL REMIND EACH OF YOU THAT THESE CHILDREN REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE SCHOOL STAFF HAS BEEN EDUCATED TO THINK OR BELIEVE ARE NOT THEIR CHILDREN TO DO WITH FREELY WHATEVER THEY DEEM FIT, OR MIGHT I SAY WHAT THEY CAN FLY UNDER THE RADAR WITH.

[01:10:03]

MY CONCERN IS THIS, I HAVE BEEN ADVISED IN A MEETING WITH ALLISON TUCHARDT, DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM, THAT A CONCERNED PARTY CAN SUBMIT ONLINE A RECONSIDERATION FORM FOR EACH BOOK.

PER BOARD POLICY, THE BOOK IS THEN READ IN ITS ENTIRETY BY THE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS COMMITTEE.

PER ALLISON, IT WILL TAKE ONE MONTH TO READ ONE BOOK, AS EACH COMMITTEE MEMBER HAS ORDERED A BOOK OF THEIR OWN TO READ WITHIN THAT MONTH TIME PERIOD.

SO FAR, I PERSONALLY HAVE SUBMITTED 15 BOOKS, WHICH WILL TAKE 15 MONTHS TO REVIEW THESE BOOKS, THAT'S UNACCEPTABLE.

IF THERE ARE 75 BOOKS OF CONCERN AS OF TODAY IN ONE LIBRARY, IT WILL TAKE THE COMMITTEE ABOUT SIX YEARS TO READ THESE BOOKS.

MEANWHILE, YOU HAVE MORE BOOKS COMING IN AND MORE BOOKS DONATED BY ORGANIZATIONS OR BEING DISTRIBUTED, THAT HAVE NO OTHER INTEREST OTHER THAN PROVIDING THIS TYPE OF MATERIAL TO KIDS.

THOSE THAT HAVE CLANDESTINE SEXUAL BENDS TOWARDS MINORS ARE AS OLD AS THE BEGINNING OF TIME.

IT IS OUR JOB TO PROTECT OUR CHILDREN REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY IDENTIFY OR WHAT THEIR STORY IS, AND THAT INCLUDES EACH OF YOU.

I AM REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION IF THE BOOK IS POINTED OUT TO HAVE EROTICALLY EXPLICIT LITERARY SECTIONS WITHIN THE CONTENTS OF THE STORY, THAT THAT BOOK BE PLACED ON HOLD UNTIL IT CAN BE REVIEWED.

I AM ALSO ASKING THAT THE BOARD REVISE POLICY TO INCLUDE HOW TO REVIEW AND REFERENCES TO SEXUALLY EROTIC MATERIAL IN OUR LIBRARIES.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT YOUR CURRENT POLICY HAS NOT BEEN PLACED INTO PRACTICE AND THEREFORE CANNOT BE STATED THAT IT IS WORKING.

PER ALLISON, ONLY ONE BOOK, ONE, IN THE LAST 12 YEARS HAS EVEN EVER BEEN REVIEWED.

YOU CANNOT MEASURE A POLICY WITH ONE BOOK IN 12 YEARS, YOU CAN'T DO IT.

I THINK IT'S TIME TO REVIEW THE POLICY BASED ON CURRENT CLIMATES IN REGARDS TO THIS ISSUE NATIONWIDE.

PARENTS ARE SPEAKING OUT AND THIS IS NOT GOING AWAY.

PLEASE ADDRESS THIS IMMEDIATELY.

WE ARE NOW GOING ON FOUR MONTHS SINCE ALL OF YOU HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THAT TAKES US TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA TONIGHT.

[8. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA, WE HAVE ITEMS A THROUGH I.

>> IS THERE ANYTHING ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT THE BOARD HAS ANY QUESTIONS ON, NEEDS TO BE PULLED OR REVIEWED? HEARING NONE, I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION.

>> I MOVE THAT THE CONSENT AGENDA BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

>> MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED, AND I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE FOR HER ADVISORY VOTE.

>> PRO.

>> THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT STOOD OUT TO YOU, JULIA, ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT YOU WANT TO ADDRESS? WILSON STORE IS HERE, NOT HERE, I'LL TALK ABOUT THE STUDENT TRAVEL AND HOW THEY WERE, IT'S NOT OPEN RIGHT NOW, BUT I THINK THERE WERE SIX ITEMS OF POSTSEASON OVERNIGHT.

THAT'S SOFTBALL REGIONALS, ALSO SOFTBALL STATE, AND BASEBALL STATE PLAYOFFS FOR BATTLE GROUND, EVERYTHING ELSE IS FOR PRAIRIE I THINK.

THERE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ANOTHER BATTLE GROUND.

BUT A LOT OF ATHLETIC SUCCESS SHOWN IN STAYING OVER BASICALLY.

[LAUGHTER] OH, AND THERE WAS A WASHINGTON DC SOLICITATION THING FOR WAS IT WARREN?

>> EIGHTH GRADE. YEAH.

>> IT WAS EIGHTH GRADERS AT WARREN ARE GOING TO BE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO WASHINGTON, DC, SO THAT'S PRETTY COOL.

I THINK IT'S NEXT OCTOBER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

>> I THINK IT'S SOONER THAN THAT.

IS PAULA HERE. WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME UP AND TALK ABOUT IT?

>> SURE.

>> THANKS FOR BEING HERE, PAULA.

>> WE GET WE ONLY GET A FEW OF THESE EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, SO IT'S GOOD FOR THE BOARD WITH NEW BOARD MEMBERS TO UNDERSTAND HOW THAT WORKS.

>> ACTUALLY THIS YEAR, WE OPENED IT TO SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS.

>> COOL.

>> THAT WAY I COULD DO IT EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS, [LAUGHTER] AND WE'RE TAKING THEM.

IT'S THEIR EXPENSE.

I'M JUST CHAPERONING.

THERE ARE THREE ADULTS AND 12 KIDS THAT WILL BE GOING FROM WARREN.

DID YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? [LAUGHTER] WE'RE GOING TO BE GOING TO WASHINGTON, DC. [OVERLAPPING]

>> WHAT ARE YOU GUYS GOING TO DO WHILE YOU'RE THERE? [OVERLAPPING]

>> JUNE 15. THE DAY AFTER SCHOOL GETS OUT.

[01:15:03]

>> WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU GET THERE?

>> WE HAVE A FULL ITINERARY.

WE FLY IN AND WE START WITH THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL, THE JEFFERSON, ANYWAY, THREE MEMORIALS.

>> YEAH.

>> THEN WE GO BACK AND GO TO SLEEP, AND THEN THE NEXT DAY, WE GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY. [OVERLAPPING]

>> VERY COOL. [OVERLAPPING]

>> A BUNCH OF PLACES LIKE THAT.

THEN I KNOW WE HIT FORD'S THEATER AND A LOT OF THE SMITHSONIANS, [OVERLAPPING] AND MOUNT VERNON.

>> VERY COOL.

>> THAT'S A LOT.

>> YEAH.

>> THAT'S A LOT.

>> IT'S FUN, THOUGH.

>> OH, YEAH.

>> GREAT.

>> YEAH.

>> IS THERE QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> I'M SORRY. I NEVER GOT A LITTLE [INAUDIBLE].

>> ME TOO.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THERE IS NO OLD BUSINESS TONIGHT.

[10. New Business (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

THERE ARE TWO ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS.

THE FIRST ONE IS THE CONTRACT APPROVAL WITH CONSTRUCTION SERVICES GROUP, INC, MR. DOMA.

>> THANK YOU, BOARD. GOOD EVENING.

>> GOOD EVENING.

>> FIRST ITEM IS THE APPROVAL OF THE CONTRACT FOR THE PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY THREE CLASSROOM ADDITION.

OUR LOW BIDDER WAS CONSTRUCTION SERVICES GROUP. GOOD BID.

ENGINEERS ESTIMATE WAS 955, AND THEY WERE 997, AND WE HAD ANOTHER ONE AT 1.15, GOOD BIDS, RIGHT ON ESTIMATE, AND WE'RE FUNDING THIS PROJECT THROUGH IMPACT FEES AND WE'LL HAVE THE SCHOOLS, THESE NEW THREE CLASSROOMS READY FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

>> GOOD WORK.

>> THANK YOU.

>> QUESTIONS?

>> I MOVE THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH CONSTRUCTION SERVICES GROUP INC.

>> THE MOTION ON THE FLOOR.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE FOR ADVISORY VOTE.

>> PRO.

>> ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO.

>> THANK YOU.

>> SECOND ITEM OF NEW BUSINESS IS THE AGREEMENT APPROVAL FOR THE ENERGY AUDIT OF FACILITIES.

>> THIS IS AFTER OUR WORK SESSION LAST BOARD MEETING.

HOPEFULLY, HOPEFULLY WE GAVE SOME CLARITY TO THE VERY COMPLEX PROCESS THAT WE'RE ABOUT TO GO THROUGH.

AS I MENTIONED AT THAT WORK SESSION, WE WOULD GET THE OFFICIAL PAPERWORK FROM THE STATE, WHICH IS ATTACHED, AND THAT'S JUST SAYING THAT WE'VE SET ASIDE THIS MONEY.

AGAIN, WE'VE GOT THREE PARTS TO THIS.

ONE, WE'RE GOING TO BE IDENTIFYING OUR ENERGY USE INTENSITY, AND THAT'LL BE DISTRICT-WIDE, AND THAT'S 49,816, THAT HAS TO BE DONE.

THEN DURING THE NEXT SIX MONTHS, AMERESCO WILL BE CREATING OUR ENERGY MANAGEMENT PLAN TO HELP US GET BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL ON TARGET.

THAT PORTION IS 42,404.

THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR AS WELL.

THEN IN THE THIRD PART WE'LL BE REVIEWING THE ENTIRE DISTRICT TO UPGRADE OUR LIGHTINGS AS MUCH AS WE POSSIBLY CAN TO LED.

THAT PORTION OF THE WORK IS 65,559, AND IF WE CANNOT FIND A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT THAT WILL PAY FOR ITSELF BY THE ESCO, WE WON'T PAY THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY, BUT I'VE NEVER HAD THAT HAPPEN.

WE ALWAYS FIND A PROJECT, AND IT'LL BE LARGER THAN JUST THE LIGHTING, AS I'VE MENTIONED BEFORE.

THOSE ARE THE THREE LEGS TO THIS SCHOOL, AND OUR FIRST STEP IS TO TELL THE STATE THAT WE HAVE SET ASIDE THOSE FUNDS AND THE NEXT STEP IS TO ACTUALLY START ALL THE WORK THAT'S REQUIRED TO COMPLY WITH THIS LAW.

>> QUESTIONS?

>> THANKS, KEVIN. I RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE ENERGY AUDIT SERVICES AUTHORIZATION NUMBER 2024909 A, PARENT 1, AND THE FUNDING APPROVAL LETTER.

>> WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE FOR HER ADVISORY VOTE.

>> PRO.

>> ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE SAY AYE.

>> AYE.

>> ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO.

>> THANK YOU AGAIN.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THAT BRINGS US TO FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS AND BOARD EVENTS.

[11. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

WE TALKED ABOUT A LOT OF THEM ALREADY, WHICH ARE THE GRADUATIONS COMING UP.

THERE IS ALSO THIS THURSDAY, THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AWARDS THAT WE'VE BEEN INVITED TO.

[01:20:04]

THE MULTIPLE GRADUATION WALKS ON FRIDAY, PASS AND REVIEW ON SATURDAY.
