CAN SOMEONE SHOW ME? OH. OKAY, I'M GONNA TRY THAT [APPLAUSE].

THANK YOU.

AND STANDING IN FRONT OF THIS GROUP AND IN FRONT OF ALL THESE PEOPLE IS REALLY, REALLY HARD.

AND AND IT TAKES A LOT OF BRAVERY.

IT TAKES A LOT OF COURAGE.

AND YOU ALL WERE ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC [APPLAUSE].

AND YOU COMING HERE MEANS SO MUCH TO US.

AND AND WE WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU GUYS SHARING WHAT'S GOING ON IN MAPLE GROVE.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE HAVING A FANTASTIC TIME THERE THAT THE SCHOOL IS TERRIFIC.

AND THANK YOU FOR COMING AND JUST BEING WITH US TONIGHT.

IT REALLY MEANS A LOT TO ALL OF US.

YOU GUYS AGAIN.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC.

CONGRATULATIONS. [APPLAUSE] WE ALSO COULDN'T DO THIS WITHOUT THE HELP OF YOUR PARENTS.

SO IF YOUR PARENTS COULD JUST ALL STAND AND MAYBE GIVE A LITTLE WAVE, WE'D LIKE TO THANK YOU TOO.

[APPLAUSE] AND MRS. DRAKE AND MISS URIBE.

I THINK THEY NEED SOME PAUSE WHEN THEY GET BACK TO THE BUILDING AND RECOGNITION FOR.

YEAH, YEAH.

NICE JOB, YOU GUYS.

CAN WE GET A PHOTO? YEAH.

GO, WILDCATS! BEST PART OF THE JOB.

I THOUGHT YOU SAID IT WAS CALLING SCHOOL FOR SNOW.

YEAH. YEAH, RIGHT.

WE WANT TO CONGRATULATE ELIZABETH MCALEER.

I HOPE I SAID THAT CLOSE.

AND I BELIEVE, HEATHER SMITHLINE IS HERE WITH HER.

YEAH. GREAT.

SHE IS THE WINNER OF POETRY OUT LOUD.

I WANT TO TAKE TOO MUCH AWAY, BUT I'LL LET YOU EXPLAIN IT.

HELLO? HELLO. I'M HEATHER SMITHLINE.

I'M AN ENGLISH TEACHER AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND I'M HERE TO INTRODUCE ELIZABETH MCALEER, WHO WILL BE REPRESENTING OUR DISTRICT, AT THE REGIONAL COMPETITION IN OLYMPIA THIS SATURDAY.

THIS SATURDAY.

SO SHE'S GOING TO RECITE ONE OF HER POEMS FOR YOU.

SHE HAS TO HAVE TWO READY FOR THE COMPETITION ON SATURDAY, AND SHE'S AWESOME.

THIS IS "ALL THIRST QUENCHED" BY LOIS RED ELK FOR MY DAUGHTER [INAUDIBLE].

I DIDN'T WANT TO SCOLD THE SKY THAT YEAR, BUT GRANDMA'S WORDS TAUNTED MY SENSES.

IF THERE IS A THIRST, THEN YOU NEED TO PITY THE FLOWERS IN A LOUD VOICE.

ASK THE FROGS WHY THEY ARE BEING PUNISHED.

STOMP ON THE GROUND AND TALK TO THE DRY CLAY ABOUT CRACKING OPEN THE EARTH.

I KNOW CHALLENGING THE STORM IS RISKY.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, BURN CEDAR AND PRAY THE LIGHTNING DOESN'T STRIKE YOUR TOWN.

THAT NIGHT THE STARS DISAPPEARED.

SO DID THE BIRDS.

PERHAPS IT WAS THE SEASON FOR RAIN OR THE DANCE IN THE WESTERN DISTANCE.

WE THOUGHT WE HEARD CANNON BLAST LOOKING OVER WE WATCHED THE HORIZON FILL WITH LIGHTNING STRIKES.

RAIN COULDN'T POUR HARD ENOUGH OVER THE THIRSTY PLAIN.

ACCOMPANYING CLOUDS CALLED THE THUNDERS VOICE IN EXTREME DECIMALS.

BEGGING ALL THE WATER HEAVEN COULD SEND FORTH TO COME.

[00:15:02]

RAIN AND MORE RAIN FILLED EMPTY STREAM BOTTOMS. RIVERS WHO HAD PULLED THEIR DRY BANKS FURTHER AND FURTHER FROM THEIR CENTER, BEGGED FOR A DRINK TO STARTLE DUSTY BEDS WITH A FLOODING ROAR.

LIVES IN DORMANT PLACES BEGAN TO STIR AND AWAKEN THE LIVES OF WATER BEINGS, THOSE THAT SWIM, ONES THAT HOP, AND THE ONES THAT FLY BEGAN TO STIR.

THAT YEAR, ALL THIRST WAS QUENCHED.

WOW. [APPLAUSE] [INAUDIBLE] OH MY GOSH, THAT WAS GREAT.

FANTASTIC. SHEESH.

WAS THIS YOUR FIRST YEAR DOING POETRY OUT LOUD OR DID YOU DO IT LAST YEAR? I'VE DONE POETRY OUT LOUD ALL THREE YEARS THAT I'VE BEEN IN BG, BUT I AM IN SPEECH AND DEBATE, SO I DID POETRY A LOT LAST YEAR.

OKAY. YEAH.

AMAZING. GOOD JOB.

YEAH. INCREDIBLE.

YOU'RE YOUR PAUSES AND INTONATION.

UNBELIEVABLE. JUST EXCELLENT.

OH, THANK YOU FOR SHARING.

THANK YOU FOR COMING AND SHARING.

THANK YOU. THANKS, MISS SMITH.

[APPLAUSE] THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

YEAH, FANTASTIC.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTIVITIES IS MY ONE.

THAT'S MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY OF THE YEAR.

I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER STUDENTS IN THE AUDIENCE HERE TO REPORT ASB THAT WE DIDN'T GET SIGNED UP.

RIGHT WITH THAT THEN I WOULD TURN OVER TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES TO SHARE THEIR UPDATES.

OKAY, SO IF YOU GUYS DIDN'T KNOW WE MISSED A WEEK OF SCHOOL LAST WEEK.

BUT OTHERWISE, OUR WINTER FORMAL GOT POSTPONED TO THIS SATURDAY THE 27TH.

SO THAT'LL BE REALLY EXCITING.

I THINK A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT.

AND THEN OTHERWISE, NOT A WHOLE LOT IS GOING ON EXCEPT FOR THE END OF SEMESTER.

EVERYONE'S GETTING A LITTLE NERVOUS TRYING TO GET UP THOSE GRADES AND, GET STUDYING FOR THE FINALS.

SO HOPEFULLY THAT GOES WELL FOR EVERYONE.

AND I THINK THAT'S ALL THAT'S REALLY HAPPENING AT BATTLE GROUND RIGHT NOW, OTHER THAN WHAT WE'VE HEARD SO FAR.

YEAH, VERY, VERY SIMILAR FOR RIVER AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, NOT MUCH IS HAPPENING EXCEPT FOR TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE END OF SEMESTER.

OBVIOUSLY IT GOT SUSPENDED A WEEK, WHICH I KNOW A LOT OF HIGH SCHOOLERS ARE VERY THANKFUL FOR, ESPECIALLY SINCE WE DIDN'T HAVE SCHOOL FOR A WEEK.

BUT OUR WINTER FORMAL ALSO GOT POSTPONED TO THIS FRIDAY INSTEAD OF THIS SATURDAY.

AND THEN I KNOW A LOT OF HIGH SCHOOLERS, SPECIFICALLY JUNIORS AND SENIORS, ARE GEARING UP TO TAKE THE ACT OR THE SAT.

AND LIKE THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS, I THINK THE ACT IS ON LIKE FEBRUARY 10TH AND THEN THE SAT IS LIKE A LITTLE BIT AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS AFTER THAT.

SO A LOT GOING ON THERE, A LOT OF STUDYING, A LOT OF CRAMMING.

BUT YEAH, THAT'S ALL THAT'S REALLY GOING ON.

I FEEL LIKE WITH STUDENTS RIGHT NOW.

I THINK THAT WRAPS UP STUDENT VOICE.

AND WE HAVE SOME EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARDS WE'RE GOING TO GIVE OUT.

AND I BELIEVE MICHELLE.

MICHELLE ARE YOU I THINK IT'S LUKE.

LUKE. ALL RIGHT.

TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW WITH THE KIDS THERE, BUT WE'LL WE'LL GIVE IT A SHOT.

AND AS MENTIONED LAST MONTH OR LAST BOARD MEETING, WE'RE INTRODUCING THE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION AWARD.

AND SO WE STARTED IN NOVEMBER SEEKING NOMINATIONS FROM COMMUNITY MEMBERS, STAFF MEMBERS AND STUDENTS, SENT OUT VARIOUS COMMUNICATION, SUBMIT A GOOGLE FORM.

AND IT COMES TO US. AND WE HAD A COMMITTEE REVIEW.

WE HAD 96 NOMINATIONS FOR THIS FIRST ROUND.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE FIVE EMPLOYEES FROM JANUARY THROUGH MAY FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.

WHAT I'LL DO IS, I'M GOING TO READ A BRIEF PARAGRAPH ON EACH OF THE FIVE NOMINEES TONIGHT.

I'LL ASK THEM TO COME UP INDIVIDUALLY ONE AT A TIME, COME UP HERE, AND THEN AT THE END, WE'LL GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE AND TAKE A PICTURE WITH, AND DANNY AND SHELLY THAT WE'LL USE IN FUTURE PUBLICATION FOR PROMOTION OF THE EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION.

A LOT OF CONVERSATION WENT INTO THIS, AND IT WAS A, THOUGHT THAT THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD THINGS HAPPENING AT ALL LEVELS OF OUR DISTRICT WITH THE EMPLOYEES.

OFTENTIMES WE DON'T TAKE THE EXTRA MOMENT TO RECOGNIZE THEM.

SO WE HOPE THAT THIS KICK STARTS THAT MOVING FORWARD.

SO YOU CAN ANTICIPATE THIS PROBABLY THE SECOND BOARD MEETING OF EVERY MONTH FOR THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

ALL RIGHT. OUR FIRST NOMINEE IS MELISSA MO LEVINE FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

[APPLAUSE] MELISSA LEVINE CONSISTENTLY OFFERS UNWAVERING SUPPORT TO BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF, FOSTERING AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE EDUCATORS FEEL THEY BECOME BETTER TEACHERS THROUGH HER

[00:20:03]

REFLECTIVE INQUIRIES AND VALUABLE FEEDBACK.

SERVING AS A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL, MO ADVOCATES FOR TEACHING FROM THE HEART RATHER THAN RELYING ON PAST EXPERIENCES.

IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE SHUTDOWN, MO STANDS AS A GUIDING BEACON IN HER DEPARTMENT AND CLASSROOM, NAVIGATING CHALLENGES WITH RESILIENCE.

HER NOMINATION IS UNDOUBTEDLY WELL DESERVED, REFLECTING HER DEDICATION AND IMPACT AS A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION DURING TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY AND RECOVERY, MO LEVINE [APPLAUSE].

JUST STAY OVER HERE.

YEAH, RIGHT OVER THERE.

THERE YOU GO. OUR NEXT NOMINEE IS CHELSEA WARD FROM THE FAMILY AND COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER [APPLAUSE].

AMIDST STAFF AND PROCEDURAL TRANSITIONS, CHELSEA HAS DEDICATED HERSELF TIRELESSLY TO OFFER MULTIFACETED SUPPORT FOR DISTRICT STUDENTS AND FAMILIES GRAPPLING WITH HOUSING INSECURITY, FINANCIAL CRISIS, AND COMMUNITY AND DISTRICT NAVIGATION.

OVER THE PAST YEAR, SHE EFFECTIVELY MANAGED THE FCRC, A TASK EQUIVALENT TO A WORKLOAD OF THREE INDIVIDUALS JUGGLING RESPONSIBILITIES.

CHELSEA CONDUCTED TRAINING FOR ALL DISTRICT SCHOOLS AND GUIDED THREE NEW STAFF MEMBERS WITHIN A TEAM OF FIVE.

HER UNWAVERING DETERMINATION AND TO ESTABLISH A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM AND ENSURE STUDENT PERSISTENCE AND ACHIEVEMENT REFLECTS A STEADFAST COMMITMENT TO BGP'S VALUES.

CHELSEA CONSISTENTLY RISES TO THE OCCASION, DEMONSTRATING RESILIENCE PRECISELY WHEN IT IS MOST CRUCIAL [APPLAUSE].

NEXT WE HAVE LINDA KORUM FROM TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL [APPLAUSE].

OKAY. LINDA STANDS OUT AS AN EXCEPTIONALLY PLUCKY, ATTENTIVE, AND DEVOTED EDUCATOR, CONSISTENTLY STRIVING TO ENHANCE HER CAPABILITIES FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL STUDENTS AND THE DISTRICT.

ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN YOUTH CONFERENCES AND EMBODYING THE PASSION FOR HISTORY AS A DAUGHTER OF THE REVOLUTION, SHE BRINGS THE PAST TO LIFE FOR HER STUDENTS.

SERVING AS AN ASB ADVISOR, LINDA EXEMPLIFIES LEADERSHIP, INCLUSIVITY, FINANCIAL MINDFULNESS, AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE VOTING PROCESS.

BEYOND HER CLASSROOM SHE COACHED THE TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON MATH TEAM, DEDICATED TO MAKING MATH ENJOYABLE AND ACCESSIBLE TO ALL TVM STUDENTS.

LINDA'S COMMITMENT EXTENDS TO FOSTERING CIVIC AWARENESS, CONDUCTING MOCK CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS WITH HER FIFTH GRADE HISTORY CLASS TO INSTILL A FOUNDATION OF HOW OUR COUNTRY OPERATES. HER COLLABORATIVE, COLLABORATIVE APPROACH, HIGH QUALITY INSTRUCTION, AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT MAKES LINDA A MODEL EDUCATOR AT TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THROUGHOUT OUR DISTRICT, LINDA [APPLAUSE].

NEXT WE HAVE LINDA KINCAID FROM TUKES VALLEY PRIMARY SCHOOL [APPLAUSE].

THIS IS FUN. WE'RE GETTING GOING HERE.

[INAUDIBLE] LET'S KEEP IT GOING.

LINDA. LINDA RADIATES POSITIVITY, DISPLAYING NOT JUST ENTHUSIASM FOR HER JOB, BUT GENUINE CARE FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND PEERS.

A BEACON OF COMPASSION AND CLARITY, SHE INSPIRES A GROWTH MINDSET, ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO PERSIST AND STRIVE FOR THEIR BEST.

AS A COWORKER, LINDA IS KIND, THOUGHTFUL, AND INCLUSIVE, SHARING IDEAS AND FOSTERING A SENSE OF VALUE AND APPRECIATION AMONG HER COLLEAGUES.

HER UNWAVERING OPTIMISM, COMBINED WITH HARD WORK AND DEPENDABILITY, ENHANCES OUR SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT.

LINDA'S PATIENCE AND SKILL SHINE IN INTERACTIONS WITH STUDENTS AND ADULTS ALIKE, CONTRIBUTING TO THE OVERALL IMPROVEMENT OF OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

HER IMPACT EXTENDS BEYOND PROFESSIONAL DUTIES, MAKING EVERYONE SHE INTERACTS WITH ASPIRE TO BE THEIR BEST SELVES.

LINDA'S ROLE AS A DEDICATED READING ASSISTANT FURTHER UNDERSCORES HER COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS AND STAFF, BRINGING JOY AND ENTHUSIASM TO THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

SHE IS A TREASURE AND A GIFT TO US ALL [APPLAUSE].

OUR FINAL NOMINEE IS RIGHT HERE AT CAM, DENNIS AGER, THE CUSTODIAN AT CAM [APPLAUSE].

DENNIS HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN OPENING OF CAM ENSURING STAFF AND STUDENTS HAVE ALL THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS.

HE METICULOUSLY ORGANIZED CLASSROOMS AND OFFICES, SETTING A HIGH STANDARD FOR EXCELLENCE.

DENNIS'S ATTENTION TO DETAIL AND COMMITMENT REFLECTS IN THE WELL MAINTAINED CAMPUS, SHOWCASING HIS PRIDE AND DEDICATION.

THOUGHTFUL AND ENCOURAGING, HE UPLIFTS THOSE AROUND HIM, CONTRIBUTING SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE POSITIVE ATMOSPHERE.

DENNIS'S IMPACT GOES BEYOND LOGISTICS.

HE IS THOUGHTFUL AND VERY ENCOURAGING TO THOSE AROUND HIM.

[00:25:01]

WHEN YOU WALK ONTO CAMPUS, YOU CAN SEE THE PRIDE HE TAKES IN KEEPING THIS PLACE UP.

CONGRATULATIONS [APPLAUSE]. IT WOULD BE, IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL BECAUSE I KNOW EVERYBODY WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU PERSONALLY.

WOULD YOU GUYS MIND JUST GOING AROUND THE TABLE HERE AND LETTING EVERYBODY SHAKE YOUR HAND AND SAY THANKS.

[APPLAUSE] TRULY WELL DESERVED.

AND YEAH, VERY EXCITING.

THAT'S WHAT MAKES THIS DISTRICT GREAT RIGHT THERE.

YEAH. I LIKE THIS NEW THIS NEW THING.

YEAH, YEAH. WE'RE ALWAYS WE'RE ALWAYS INNOVATING HERE.

IT'S WHAT WE LOVE IT.

YEAH. DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO STAY, HEAD OUT IF YOU NEED TO.

WE'RE FINE.

I'M JUST GOING TO WAIT A MINUTE. IF ANYBODY WANTED TO CHANGE SEATS, MOVE FORWARD.

PLEASE FEEL FREE.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE ALL OF YOU, TODAY.

ALL RIGHT. NEXT UP WE HAVE OUR COMMITTEE REPORTS STARTING WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

OKAY. WELL, OF COURSE A SHORT SESSION, BUT MANY, MANY BILLS THAT ARE IN PROCESS, MANY OF MOST OF THEM IN COMMITTEE RIGHT NOW.

WHAT'S INTERESTING IS THAT OUR POSITIONS AS BOARD MEMBERS, WHEN WE DECIDE ON THOSE POSITIONS, THOSE WSSDA POSITIONS, THAT'S WHAT INFORMS OUR ADVOCACY COMMITTEE FROM WSSDA HOW THEY RESPOND TO THESE AS THEY'RE IN COMMITTEE.

SO, FOR INSTANCE, THERE ARE SEVERAL THAT WSSDA HAS, GIVEN A PRO AND SO THEY'VE TESTIFIED PRO FOR THESE.

SOMETIMES THEY TESTIFY CON, SOMETIMES THEY JUST MONITOR THEM.

SO FOR NOW, OF COURSE, MANY OF THE SPECIAL EDUCATION BILLS THAT ARE BEFORE THE COMMITTEES WSSDA HAS HAS TESTIFIED PRO THEY ARE MONITORING THE BILL THAT IS WOULD CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION TO ALLOW 55% ON BONDS.

SO 55% PASSAGE ON BONDS.

THEY'RE MONITORING THAT ONE FOR NOW.

I DON'T KNOW IF THAT ONE WILL GO FORWARD OUT OF COMMITTEE.

SO SOMETIMES THEY HOLD BACK AND THEY DON'T THEY DON'T EITHER, TESTIFY PRO OR CON UNTIL THEY SEE IF IT'S GOING TO GO FORWARD.

BECAUSE I'VE KIND OF LEARNED THAT, YOU KNOW, TO TO JUST WATCH THEM.

PREJUDGMENT INTEREST AGAIN, THEY'RE JUST MONITORING THAT ONE.

I'M SURE THAT WASBO AND EVERYBODY IS MONITORING THAT ONE RIGHT NOW.

AND, THERE IS A BILL IN COMMITTEE THAT WOULD ESTABLISH AN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TASK FORCE, AND THEY DID VOTE PRO ON THAT ONE.

ONE BILL THAT I SO I DECIDED THERE'S SO MANY THINGS I COULD TALK ABOUT.

BUT ONE BILL I JUST WANTED TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION IS HOUSE BILL 2053, BECAUSE IT TIES IN WITH WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TONIGHT IN OUR CIP PLANS.

AND IT WASN'T EMPHASIZED AS MUCH THIS YEAR.

BUT I KNOW ONE OF THE WAYS THAT WE MONITOR HOW STUDENTS ARE DOING IS HOW SUCCESSFUL THEY ARE AS NINTH GRADERS, BECAUSE THAT IS A PRETTY GOOD INDICATOR OF WHETHER THEY'RE GOING TO

[00:30:06]

GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL OR NOT.

IF THEY'RE FAILING AS A NINTH GRADER, CHANCES ARE THEY'RE GOING TO REALLY STRUGGLE.

SO, THERE WAS A PILOT PROGRAM AND NOW, THE THERE'S A BILL, A HOUSE BILL 2053 THAT WOULD ESTABLISH A NINTH GRADE SUCCESS GRANT PROGRAM, WHICH FUNDS THE CREATION OF NINTH GRADE SUCCESS TEAMS TO IDENTIFY AND SUPPORT INCOMING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OR WHO ARE AT RISK OF NOT GRADUATING.

I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THIS GRANT, AND I DON'T KNOW IF IT WOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH FUNDING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE, BUT FOR INSTANCE, IF IT PARTIALLY FUNDED AN INSTRUCTIONAL COACH OR EXTRA TIME FOR TEACHERS TO WORK ON PROGRAMS THAT HELP THOSE NINTH GRADERS, THEN IT MIGHT BE WORTHWHILE.

SO JUST BRINGING THAT TO YOUR ATTENTION, THAT'S ONE OF THE ONES THAT IS NOT AN UNFUNDED MANDATE, BUT A FUNDED AND NOT A MANDATE.

SO THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING.

THANK YOU. AUDIT COMMITTEE REPORT.

[INAUDIBLE] NO MEETING YET? NO MEETING YET? BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

YES, I ATTENDED THAT.

AND THIS IS THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY IN PROCESS OF PLANNING THE CELEBRATION FOR THE 2024.

THEY ARE CONSIDERING STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES, AND THEY'RE TALKING TO JACKIE ABOUT THAT.

AND ALSO THEY ARE CONSIDERING THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST FUNDRAISING GROUP TO COME ALONGSIDE THE FOUNDATION AND HELP THEM WITH FUNDRAISING AND IT'S IN PROCESS.

DECISION HASN'T BEEN MADE AT THIS POINT.

THANK YOU.

WIIA COMMITTEE.

WE HAVEN'T HAD OUR MONTHLY YET.

OKAY. WSSDA UPDATES WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION UPDATES? IS THERE A THERE'S A CALL THIS WEEK.

OH, THAT WAS THE OTHER THING.

THE LEDGE REP MEETINGS THAT ARE ON MONDAYS.

I FOUND OUT THEY WILL NOT RECORD THOSE.

THEY HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT IT AT THE MEETING AND DECIDED THEY WILL NOT RECORD THOSE.

INTERESTING. BECAUSE THEY SAID PEOPLE WON'T SPEAK FREELY IF THEY RECORD THOSE MEETINGS.

BUT IT MEANS THAT I CAN'T.

I MEAN, THOSE OF US WHO WHO HAVE MEETINGS, OUR BOARD MEETINGS ON MONDAY NIGHTS CAN'T ATTEND THOSE.

SO, I WILL ATTEND THE THURSDAY THEY, YOU KNOW, I CAN ATTEND THE THURSDAY ONES THURSDAY AT NOON BUT WE TALKED ABOUT THAT THAT WAS DISCUSSED THAT IT'S A REQUIREMENT FOR SCHOOL BOARDS BUT NOT FOR THAT.

YEAH. INTERESTING.

YEAH. BUT THERE IS A THE DAY ON THE HILL IS THIS WEEKEND, THE CONFERENCE DAY ON THE HILL CONFERENCE.

SO I'LL BE ATTENDING THAT VIRTUALLY.

IT'S THE LEDGE REP.

IT'S THE LEDGE REP. YEAH.

YEAH. BUT YOU CAN, YOU CAN DO THE, THE THURSDAY AT NOON RIGHT. VERY INCONVENIENT.

ANY OTHER WSSDA UPDATES? NO. HEARING NONE.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO TOURS COMMITTEE.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF TOURS RESCHEDULED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER.

SO THOSE WILL BE COMING GETTING RESCHEDULED SOON, I WOULD GUESS.

AND THEN UPCOMING.

NOTHING UNTIL FEBRUARY.

WE HAVE GROUP ONE AND GROUP TWO ON FEBRUARY 9TH OVER AT GLENWOOD AND LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL, SO.

AND THEN FEBRUARY 13TH FOR GROUP THREE OVER AT DAYBREAK SO MIDDLE SCHOOL.

ANY QUESTIONS ON TOURS? OKAY, I WOULD TURN, NEXT UP WE HAVE DIRECTOR REPORTS.

ANY ADDITIONAL DIRECTOR REPORTS TO ADD? I GOT ONE.

AS I'VE BEEN KIND OF BRIEFING OVER THE LAST, I DON'T KNOW, YEAR OR SO, THE CLASSIFICATIONS FOR 4A-3A WERE COMING UP, AND, WE WERE, BY ENROLLMENT, CLASSIFIED AS 4A.

AND I THINK I MENTIONED THAT WE WERE APPEALING DOWN TO 3A.

WE DID HAVE THE ZOOM MEETING APPEAL ON THE 19TH AND WE WERE DENIED.

SO THEN WE APPEALED THAT APPEAL AND, WENT UP TO RENTON.

SEVERAL OF US WENT UP THERE FROM THE ATHLETIC REVIEW TEAM AND PRESENTED AND WERE DENIED.

SO WE ARE CURRENTLY STILL REMAINING A 4A SCHOOL AT BATTLE GROUND.

AND WITH THAT, WA FINALIZED ALL THEIR CLASSIFICATIONS.

[00:35:06]

AND PRAIRIE WILL REMAIN 3A AND I BELIEVE MOUNTAIN VIEW IS THE OTHER ONE THAT WAS POTENTIALLY GOING TO GO UP.

AND THEY'RE ALSO GOING TO REMAIN 3A.

SO IN THE GHSL THERE'S NO CHANGES.

INTERESTING. YEAH.

OKAY. OTHER DIRECTOR REPORT? [INAUDIBLE] I'LL SHARE THAT I ATTENDED THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING ON JANUARY 11TH.

IT WAS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE CAPITAL LEVY PRESENTATION AND THE COMMUNICATIONS THAT THEY, ARE DOING CURRENTLY.

WE RAN OUT OF TIME BASICALLY, WITH THAT, I FEEL LIKE WE DIDN'T DO WORD ON THE STREET OR BUT IT WAS THE QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD WAS VERY GREAT.

JUST TO HEAR FROM THE COMMUNITY WHAT QUESTIONS THEY HAD.

AND SO I JUST THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FEEDBACK THAT WE'RE GETTING.

BECAUSE THE MORE KNOWLEDGE WE CAN SHARE, THEN IT JUST AND SNOWBALLS.

AND TO THAT END, I WANTED TO STATE THAT WE HAD PREPARED A LEVY PRESENTATION.

AND BASED OFF OF THE FEEDBACK WE WE GOT, WE WENT BACK AND MODIFIED THAT LEVY PRESENTATION.

WE MOVED THE THE MONEY ISSUE, THE TAX RATE UP UP FRONT TALKED ABOUT HOW WE COMPARE TO OTHER DISTRICTS.

MOVED THAT FROM BEING TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE PRESENTATION, MOVE THAT UP FRONT.

SO, TO YOUR POINT, JACKIE, THE FEEDBACK WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL FOR US.

CLARIFY WHAT YOU MEAN BY YOU MOVE THE TAX RATE.

BECAUSE THE TAX RATE DIDN'T CHANGE, THE TAX RATE DIDN'T CHANGE.

I MEAN, WE MOVED IT UP IN TERMS OF THE ORDER IN WHICH WE PRESENTED INFORMATION.

OKAY. SO ONE OF THE ONE OF THE FEEDBACK, ONE OF THE FEEDBACKS THAT WE GOT FROM THE COMMITTEE WAS THAT, YOU KNOW, DENNY, THAT'S WHAT YOU NEED TO START WITH.

YOU KNOW, YOU NEED TO LET PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT BECAUSE THE BOND IS EXPIRING AT $0.44 AND THE LEVY WOULD ONLY BE ASKING $0.44. YOU KNOW, IT'S KIND OF THIS SWAP IDEA.

AND WE OF COURSE HAD THAT IN OUR PRESENTATION.

BUT I DON'T THINK YOU GOT TO THAT PART UNTIL YOU WERE DOWN IN THE FIFTH, SIXTH SLIDE.

IT WAS MORE TALKING.

WE HAD TALKED ABOUT THE NEED UP FRONT, AND SO THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO BRING THAT TO THE FOREFRONT.

THAT'S WHAT YOU SHOULD START WITH.

SO THAT'S WHAT WE DID.

WE ARRANGED THAT.

AND THEN ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS WE DID WAS AT THE AT THE END WE WOULD COMPARE OUR TAX RATE WITH OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

TAX RATES.

YOU'VE SEEN THE SLIDE BEFORE WHERE YOU KNOW, CAM IS CHARGING $3.59 AND, YOU KNOW, THEN WE'RE AT THE BOTTOM CHARGING $2.12, I BELIEVE.

AND THEY SAID THAT THAT SHOULD BE UP TOWARDS THE FRONT ALSO BECAUSE THE IDEA OF TAXES AND THE RATE OF TAXES, OVERWHELMINGLY WAS, YOU KNOW, I THINK DEBBIE AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT OVERWHELMINGLY, THAT WAS THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF THE CITIZENS GROUP THAT THAT'S THE BIGGEST.

THAT'S WHEN IN TERMS OF FACING PEOPLE WHO AREN'T GOING TO VOTE FOR THE LEVY.

THAT'S THE BIGGEST REASON IS THE TAX RATES.

SO AGAIN, VERY HELPFUL.

GOOD INFORMATION.

CHANGED WHAT WE WERE DOING FOR THE BETTER.

OKAY, I ENJOYED IT.

I DID TOO DENNY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB OF PRESENTING IT TOO.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. ANYTHING ELSE FOR DIRECTOR REPORTS? THEN WE'LL TURN IT OVER TO SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

THANK YOU. A FEW THINGS.

NUMBER ONE, TO ECHO SORA.

YES, WE WERE OUT OF SCHOOL LAST WEEK.

THE SNOW AND ICE, LIKE IT'S AN EPISODE OF GAME OF THRONES.

SNOW AND ICE.

A COUPLE OF FACILITY UPDATES.

WE HAD THE HVAC SYSTEM GO OUT AT, AT, CAPTAIN STRONG PRIMARY, AND WE WERE ACTUALLY GOING.

IF WE WOULD HAVE HAD SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, WE WOULD HAVE HAD TO CANCEL SCHOOL ON FRIDAY AT CAPTAIN STRONG BECAUSE THE BOILERS WERE NOT WORKING.

BUT ON FRIDAY WE WERE ABLE TO GET SOMEBODY IN AND THOSE WERE REPAIRED.

BUT AGAIN, I THINK IT IT GOES TO SHOW THE STATE OF OUR HVAC SYSTEMS, OUR ROOFS, ALL OF THOSE KINDS OF

[00:40:08]

THINGS AS IT RELATES TO, YOU KNOW, AS WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT A CAPITAL LEVY.

WE ALSO HAD A PIPE BURST IN BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL GYMNASIUM.

THAT WAS JUST TWO YEARS AGO.

THAT WAS A $50,000 REDO OF THAT GYM FLOOR.

FORTUNATELY, QUICK ACTING ON THE PART OF OUR CUSTODIANS.

THEY WERE ABLE TO GET THE WATER SHUT OFF BEFORE IT DID A WHOLE LOT OF DAMAGE.

SO WE WE'RE ABLE TO GET THAT FIXED AND REPAIRED AND DRIED OUT.

THEY HAD TO ACTUALLY TEAR UP SOME OF THE FLOOR TO MAKE SURE THAT THE FLOOR WAS DRY UNDERNEATH, BUT SEEMS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY.

SO WE LUCKED OUT THERE.

OF COURSE, I'D LIKE TO OFFER MY THANKS.

AND, I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR THE SUPPORT WE HAD FROM OUR PARENTS, OUR STUDENTS AND OUR COMMUNITY AND ALSO, OF COURSE, OF OUR STAFF.

IT MAKES FOR A TOUGH WEEK.

WE WILL BE ADDING A SNOW DAY.

I THINK IT'S MARCH 12TH, 15TH, 15TH.

THANK YOU. MARCH 15TH.

SO IF YOU WERE PLANNING A VACATION THAT DAY, WE'RE NOW HAVING SCHOOL AND THEN WE'LL BE ADDING THREE DAYS TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

WE HAD THOSE THREE DAYS MARKED AS SNOW DAYS.

THAT GETS US TO A FRIDAY, THOUGH, AS OUR LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.

SO ANY MORE SNOW DAYS AND WE'LL BE COMING BACK FOR THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY, BECAUSE THAT MONDAY IS A HOLIDAY THAT'S [INAUDIBLE] JUNETEENTH IS WEDNESDAY, JUNETEENTH IS WEDNESDAY.

WEDNESDAY. SO IT'S NOT ON MONDAY.

JUNETEENTH IS WEDNESDAY.

SO WE'RE GETTING CLOSE TO THAT.

YES, WE'RE WE'RE KNOCKING THE DOOR TO THAT HOLIDAY.

AND WE ALSO, WE WILL BE LOOKING AT IF THE GOVERNOR DECLARES THE EVENT AS A WEATHER EMERGENCY THAT GIVES US THE OPTION OF APPLYING FOR WAIVER DAYS.

WE HAVE HEARD RUMORS THAT THE GOVERNOR IS CONSIDERING THAT I KNOW THAT THE ESD 112 IS ADVOCATING FOR THAT BECAUSE OF THE IMPACT IT HAD IN OUR REGION. BUT, AND I SAY THIS WITH THE UTMOST OF UNDERSTANDING, BUT UNLESS IT HAPPENS IN SEATTLE, IT SOMETIMES DOESN'T HAPPEN.

SO WE'LL SEE.

AND THOSE WAIVERS ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR STUDENT ATTENDANCE.

STAFF WOULD STILL BE REPORTING AND WE WOULD USE THOSE AS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IF THAT WERE TO OCCUR.

YEAH. AND RIGHT NOW WE COULD ONLY GET A WAIVER FOR ONE OF THOSE DAYS BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO USE YOUR SNOW DAYS.

SO WE SAW A COMMENT FROM A CITIZEN, AND I THOUGHT IT JUST KIND OF MADE ME THINK A LITTLE BIT SO.

AND I THINK SOME THINGS HAVE TRANSPIRED SINCE THAT COMMENT AS FAR AS LIKE ADDING DAYS AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

BUT THE COMMENT WAS BECAUSE THE SCHOOL, THE SEMESTER HAD ALREADY BEEN EXTENDED.

RIGHT, SO THEY'RE GOING TO GET A FULL FIRST SEMESTER, BUT THEN IT ACTUALLY SHORTS SECOND SEMESTER BY A COUPLE WEEKS, RIGHT? BECAUSE YOU TAKE AWAY THE WEEK, ANYWAY SO I THOUGHT REFERENCING. SO I JUST THOUGHT MAYBE SOME CLARIFICATION WELL, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS REALLY DIFFICULT IS THAT IT IS MUCH EASIER FOR A TEACHER TO ADJUST IF THEY KNOW THAT THEY'VE GOT THE ENTIRE SEMESTER TO ADJUST THOSE DAYS.

SO NOW AS A TEACHER, IF I'M TEACHING MY CLASS, I KNOW THAT WHILE I MIGHT HAVE I MAY BE FOUR DAYS SHORT IN SECOND SEMESTER, BUT I'VE GOT JANUARY I'VE GOT FEBRUARY UNTIL THE UNTIL JUNE IN ORDER TO SAY, OKAY, THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO CUT OUT.

THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO CUT OUT.

HERE'S WHAT I'M GOING TO MOVE.

HERE'S WHAT I'M GOING TO COMBINE.

SO IT GIVES THE TEACHERS A LOT MORE PLANNING TIME.

THE DIFFICULTY WITH WHAT HAPPENED NOW IS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY.

IF WE DIDN'T MOVE, THE SEMESTER BACK WOULD HAVE BEEN FINALS FOR THIS FIRST SEMESTER, WHICH MEANS STUDENTS WOULD HAVE COME BACK TODAY, MONDAY. HAVE MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, AND TEACHERS HAD ALREADY PLANNED WELL, I'VE GOT SEVEN DAYS LEFT IN ORDER TO FINISH THE UNITS THAT I AM ON, AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO TEST ON THAT.

THAT'S NOT A LOT OF TIME TO PLAN AND REARRANGE.

WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. AND WE'VE SEEN IT HAPPEN IN OTHER DISTRICTS THAT AREN'T ADJUSTING THEIR CALENDARS IS YOU'VE GOT TEACHERS COMBINING STUFF, SENDING HOME EXTRA WORK FOR STUDENTS TO DO.

[00:45:02]

IT WAS PARTICULARLY INTERESTING TO HEAR SOME OF THE CONCERNS AROUND ATHLETES HAVING TO MAKE UP SPORTING EVENTS, AND THEN HAVING TO ALSO CRAM IN THIS EXTRA WORK THAT WOULD NEEDED TO BE DUE AND STUDY FOR FINALS.

SO WE JUST FELT LIKE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR US WAS TO EXTEND IT, ALLOW OUR TEACHERS TO FINISH THE YEAR WITH THE NUMBER OF DAYS THAT THEY HAD PLANNED ON, AND THEN IN THE END, IF IT DOES, AND IT WILL ONLY TAKE AWAY BECAUSE THE STUDENTS, THE, THE, ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WILL STILL BE GOING THOSE REQUIRED DAYS.

SO THE LENGTH OF THE SEMESTER WILL NOT BE AFFECTED EXCEPT FOR OUR SENIORS WHO WILL B ECAUSE OUR GRADUATION DAYS STAYED THE SAME, IT IS LIKELY WE'LL BE ASKING OUR SENIORS IF, ESPECIALLY IF WE HAVE A COUPLE OF MORE DAYS TO COME BACK FOR A DAY OR TWO.

BUT AGAIN, OUR TEACHERS CAN PLAN FOR THAT AND MAKE THE NECESSARY ADJUSTMENTS.

AND SO IT'S NOT LIKE THE TEACHER CAN MAKE IT UP IN THE SECOND PART OF THE YEAR, IT'S THEY'RE DONE.

SO MOVING FROM HAVING THOSE FOUR DAYS LAST WEEK AND TO DENNY'S POINT PLUS THE THREE THIS WEEK, SEVEN DAYS DOWN TO THREE.

IF STUDENTS ARE FINISHING PROJECTS, TEACHERS ARE PREPPING THEM FOR FINALS.

ALL OF THAT HAS TO HAPPEN IN THREE DAYS.

WE JUST FELT LIKE IT WAS A BIG ASK OF OUR STUDENTS TO DO ALL OF THOSE THINGS AND DO WELL.

THANKS FOR SHARING THAT. I THINK IT'S JUST IMPORTANT FOR I DON'T THINK WE ALWAYS SEE THE BIG PICTURE.

AND SO I FEEL LIKE IT'S ALWAYS HELPFUL TO SHARE KIND OF THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THE DECISIONS.

YEAH. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING IT UP.

I SAW THAT COMMENT AS WELL.

I ALSO WANTED TO SPEAK TO THE LEVY.

WE HAVE SIGN WAIVING EVENTS ARE GOING TO BE STARTING HERE VERY QUICKLY.

I THINK FRIDAY IS THE FIRST.

SPEAKERS] SO WE HAVE SIGN WAVING ACTIVITIES GOING ON THE WALK AND KNOCK OR THE PAMPHLET PASSING OUT IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS.

AND THEN WE HAVE OUR FIRST COMMUNITY FORUM.

WELL, THE FIRST ONE WAS RESCHEDULED, THE ONLINE ONE WAS RESCHEDULED, BUT THE FIRST COMMUNITY FORUM IS HERE ON THURSDAY, RIGHT IN THIS ROOM.

AND THAT WILL BE STARTING AT 6:00.

SO WE HOPE PEOPLE WILL SHOW UP AND PARTICIPATE IN THAT.

I ALSO WANTED TO REFERENCE AND THIS IS FOR YOU GUYS.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS, BUT I SAW MR. DRAKE HAD INDICATED THAT YOU HAVE YOUR SCHEDULE READY FOR YOUR AT LEAST YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL PORTIONS OF YOUR VISITS.

YES. VERY TRUE.

DID YOU WANT TO COMMENT ON THOSE? ACTUALLY, WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO VISIT LAURIN AND OH MY GOSH, HELP ME WITH THE SECOND ONE TOMORROW, PLEASANT VALLEY, TOMORROW, MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

AND, YEAH, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE TOUR OF THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO HAVE SOME CHATS AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE STUDENTS.

SO THAT'LL BE REALLY EXCITING.

WE'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAPPENS.

YEAH. AT OUR NEXT MEETING.

AND AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT.

THANK YOU GUYS FOR HELPING US.

THANK YOU, MR. DRAKE.

AND THEN LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST IS JANUARY IS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH.

AND THE GOVERNOR PUT TOGETHER A PROCLAMATION THAT WAS SIGNED BY HIM, AND I WOULD LIKE TO READ IT. SO WHEREAS THE MISSION OF WASHINGTON'S PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IS TO ENSURE THAT ALL STUDENTS ACHIEVE AT HIGH LEVELS AND POSSESS THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TO BE RESPONSIBLE MEMBERS OF A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY, ENJOY PRODUCTIVE AND SATISFYING LIVES.

AND WHEREAS WASHINGTON'S 1477 LOCALLY ELECTED SCHOOL BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND NINE EDUCATIONAL SERVICE DISTRICT ESD BOARDS ARE THE CORE OF THE PUBLIC EDUCATION GOVERNANCE SYSTEM IN OUR STATE.

SERVE. MORE THAN 1.1 MILLION STUDENTS, HAVE A COMBINED ANNUAL BUDGET OF OVER $15 BILLION, AND EMPLOY APPROXIMATELY 120,000 PEOPLE.

AND WHEREAS SCHOOL BOARDS PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN PROMOTING STUDENT LEARNING AND ACHIEVEMENT BY CREATING A VISION, ESTABLISHING POLICIES AND BUDGETS, AND SETTING CLEAR STANDARDS OF ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ALL INVOLVED.

AND WHEREAS SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS ARE DIRECTLY ACCOUNTABLE TO RESIDENTS IN THEIR DISTRICTS AND REGIONS, SERVING AS A VITAL LINK BETWEEN MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AND THEIR SCHOOLS. AND WHEREAS, SCHOOL BOARDS AND ESDS PROVIDE A PASSIONATE VOICE OF ADVOCACY FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND THE WELFARE OF SCHOOL CHILDREN.

[00:50:05]

AND WHEREAS IT IS APPROPRIATE TO RECOGNIZE SCHOOL BOARD DIRECTORS AS OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVANTS AND CHAMPIONS FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION . NOW, THEREFORE, I, JAY INSLEE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JANUARY 2024 AS SCHOOL BOARD RECOGNITION MONTH IN WASHINGTON AND I ENCOURAGE ALL PEOPLE IN OUR STATE TO JOIN ME IN THIS SPECIAL OBSERVANCE SIGNED THIS 8TH DAY OF JANUARY 2024, JAY INSLEE.

SO CONGRATULATIONS, SCHOOL BOARD, AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO [APPLAUSE].

AND THAT'S IT FOR ME. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLY.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY, IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT ON THURSDAY TO THE COMMUNITY LEVY INFORMATION, WE DID RESCHEDULE LAST WEEK'S PLANNED WEBINAR, AND WE WILL BE DOING IT NEXT MONDAY AT 6:00.

SO THE WEBINAR WILL STILL BE THE SAME WAY ONLINE AS PREVIOUS.

HOW DOES THAT IMPACT OUR QUORUM REQUIREMENTS BASED ON IF WE'RE HERE AND MORE THAN THREE OF US ARE HERE, THREE OR MORE? YOU DON'T ATTEND HERE.

THURSDAY NIGHT.

THURSDAY IF YOU WERE TO ATTEND, YOU NEED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHO WOULD ATTEND, Y ES.

BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO ATTEND ON THURSDAY NIGHT.

GREAT. I THINK DEBBIE IS KIND OF SEEN IT.

JACKIE'S KIND OF SEEN IT WITH SOME MODIFICATIONS.

I NEED TO CHECK ON SOMETHING.

OKAY, SO UNLESS.

TED. TED, IF YOU WANT TO, I'LL GIVE IT.

I MIGHT BE FLYING FOR WORK, SO.

OKAY. GREAT.

LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU.

AND I REALLY HAVE NOTHING ELSE.

WE TOOK UP THE WORK SESSION FOR TEACHING AND LEARNING, SO I WILL PASS IT ALONG TO, I THINK MICHELLE'S NEXT.

YEAH. HUMAN RESOURCES.

ALL RIGHT. WELL THANK YOU.

SO JUST TWO ITEMS TO SHARE WITH YOU THIS EVENING.

SO THE FIRST ONE I JUST WANT TO BRING TO YOUR ATTENTION ON THE CONSENT AGENDA IT'S ITEM F.

AND SO I KNOW WE'RE HAVING A LOT OF CONVERSATIONS ABOUT OUR CURRENT CALENDAR.

THIS IS THE THE CALENDAR PROPOSAL FOR NEXT YEAR FOR 24-25.

AND SO THAT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE TO YOU IN THE BOARD DOCS.

YOU'LL NOTICE ON THAT IT SAYS DRAFT, AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF IT.

SO THIS IS A PROCESS WHERE WE DO WE TRY AS MUCH AS WE CAN TO LOOK AT SURROUNDING DISTRICTS AROUND US AND TRY TO MIRROR SIMILARITIES IN TERMS OF START DATES, VACATIONS OR WINTER BREAK, AS WELL AS, END OF SEMESTER THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO WE TRY TO SPRING BREAK, WE TRY TO MIRROR THOSE SO THAT THERE ISN'T CONFLICT, FOR STAFF MEMBERS AND CHILD CARE.

BUT AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THAT CALENDAR, YOU'LL NOTICE IT SAYS CANVAS, RIDGEFIELD, EVERGREEN AND VANCOUVER.

AND THAT'S JUST FOR YOU TO SEE THEIR START AND END DATES.

SO WE'RE WE'RE PROPOSING THAT WE START ON THE 27TH OF AUGUST, AND THAT'S THREE DAYS, 27TH, 28TH, 29TH.

AND THEN THAT FRIDAY THE 30TH WOULD BE A NON ATTENDANCE DAY FOR STAFF AND FOR AND FOR STUDENTS.

AND ESSENTIALLY GIVING THE A LONGER LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

AND THAT WE DID GET INPUT FROM ASSOCIATE OUR ASSOCIATIONS ON THAT.

AND THEN SECONDLY, WE HAVE A HIRING EVENT THIS THURSDAY, FROM 2 TO 6 P.M..

SO BACK IN JULY, WE CONDUCTED A HIRING EVENT.

WE HAD OVER 40 POSITIONS PARAEDUCATOR POSITIONS THAT WE WERE DESPERATELY TRYING TO FILL.

AND SO WE WE WERE VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT ABOUT DOING A HIRING EVENT.

AND WE WERE VERY SUCCESSFUL WITH THAT.

WE FILLED QUITE A FEW OF OUR POSITIONS.

OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, WE'VE HAD, SOME NEW POSITIONS THAT HAVE OPENED UP.

AND SO CURRENTLY WE HAVE ABOUT 16 TO 18 STUDENTS SPECIFIC OR ONE ON ONE, PARAEDUCATOR POSITIONS THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO FILL.

AND SO THE IDEA BEHIND THIS HIRING EVENT IS THAT WE ARE SPECIFICALLY GOING TO BE INTERVIEWING PEOPLE WHO ARE COMING IN, IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM TO BRING THEIR RESUME.

WE HELP THEM APPLY TO PARTICULAR SCHOOLS AND PARTICULAR LEVELS IF THEY'RE INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH PRIMARY STUDENTS, MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL.

AND SO THE IDEA IS JUST TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE THEM A LITTLE MORE SUPPORT WITH WITH APPLYING AND AT THE SAME TIME GETTING THOSE POSITIONS FILLED.

SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

AND, QUITE A FEW OF OUR BUILDING PRINCIPALS ARE GOING TO BE HELPING OUT WITH THAT EVENT AS WELL.

SO AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

THANK YOU. NEXT UP IS OUR FINANCE REPORT, MICHELLE SCOTT.

[00:55:07]

GOOD EVENING. BOARD.

BRING THE PRESENTATION UP HERE JUST REAL SHORTLY.

THE PRESENTATION.

WHILE THAT'S BEING BROUGHT UP.

I'LL JUST GIVE YOU A QUICK UPDATE TOO.

WE'RE JUST GOING THROUGH OUR AUDITS.

WE'RE, SPENDING LOTS OF TIME WITH THE AUDITORS, PROVIDING INFORMATION TO THEM, DOCUMENTS.

AND, THEY IT'S A TWO YEAR ACCOUNTABILITY AUDIT.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF, A LOT GOING ON IN THE BUSINESS OFFICE RIGHT NOW.

SO IT'S GOING WELL.

AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO PROBABLY ANOTHER MONTH WE'LL BE, SPENDING, OUR AUDIT TIME.

SO OKAY.

[INAUDIBLE] NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

DO YOU WANT ME TO? GOT IT. IT'S NOT WORKING.

OH, IT'S NOT WORKING. OKAY.

ALL RIGHT, SO THE FIRST SLIDE HERE.

SO ENROLLMENTS' REALLY IMPORTANT.

LET'S JUST START THERE.

IT'S IMPORTANT FOR FUNDING.

AND AND SO WE MONITOR ENROLLMENT.

WE'RE MONITORING IT FOR BUDGET AND MAKING SURE THAT, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY WE'RE COMING IN ON TRACK.

WE ARE A LITTLE SHY IN OUR BUDGET RIGHT NOW FOR DECEMBER.

WE WERE DOWN ABOUT 34 STUDENTS AT FTE, AND FTE IS FOR FULL TIME ENROLLMENT.

SO NOT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS ARE GOING TO THE SCHOOLS, YOU KNOW, FULL TIME.

THEY MAY HAVE SOME RUNNING START CLASSES, THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO, WE ARE UP ABOUT 115 FROM PRIOR YEAR.

SO, IT'S WE'D LIKE TO SEE THAT NUMBER CLIMB THOUGH.

SO, HOPING THAT, WE WILL CONTINUE TO, TO HAVE SOME HOPES OF SOME NEW GROWTH COMING IN SECOND SEMESTER.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

THIS IS OUR HEADCOUNT.

AND OUR HEADCOUNT IS UP 168 FROM PRIOR YEAR AS WELL.

SO ALL REALLY GREAT NEWS AS FAR AS YEAR OVER YEAR INCREASES IN ENROLLMENT.

NEXT YEAR, I'M NOT SURE WE'RE LOOKING AT KIND OF MORE OF BEING ABOUT FLAT WITH THIS YEAR.

SO WE'RE NOT EXPECTING A TON OF GROWTH FOR NEXT YEAR BASED ON SOME OF THE DEMOGRAPHY INFORMATION.

BUT, WE'LL EVALUATE IT ONCE WE, ONCE WE, DO ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

THIS IS OUR ALES, AND, ALE HAS CONTINUED TO CLIMB.

SO IT'S A LOT OF IT'S A SHIFTING BETWEEN COMPREHENSIVE AND ALES.

AND SO WE ARE AT FTE 1,903 ON THE ALE, NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

AND THIS IS OUR HIGH SCHOOL CTE.

AND SO THEY ARE THEY ARE, TRACKING WELL AND, AND THEY, THEY'RE TRENDING ABOUT THE SAME AS THEY NORMALLY DO.

YOU CAN SEE HOW IT KIND OF BUMPS UP THERE AND THEN IT STARTS TO COME DOWN, SO AT 1,058 FTE.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

SO THIS IS OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL CTE.

AND SO THEIR 70.5 FTE.

SO THEY'RE DOING PRETTY WELL.

NEXT SLIDE.

THIS IS OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION ENROLLMENT AND AGAIN TRENDING IS PRETTY NORMAL.

THE BUDGETED ENROLLMENT, THEY ARE OVER BUDGET.

SO THEY BUDGETED A 1,757.

AND CURRENTLY WE HAVE 1,829 STUDENTS IN OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION.

SO BIG PROGRAM.

AND, THE NEED IS GREAT THERE.

SO NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

AND THIS IS OUR BILINGUAL WE DID BUDGET WHERE WE THOUGHT NOW, SEPTEMBER COUNT IS ON HERE, BUT IT DOESN'T IT'S NOT INCLUDED FOR FUNDING.

THEY LOOK AT THEY START IN OCTOBER IS WHEN, WHEN THEY START LOOKING AT IT FOR FUNDING.

SO IN OCTOBER IS 1,404.

AND I WILL TELL YOU, I'M SORRY.

ONE YEAH, THAT WAS OCTOBER, BUT, DECEMBER.

I'M SORRY, THAT'S NOT ON THERE, BUT, IT'S 1,430.

SO, SO THEY ARE MEETING THE BUDGET AND, THEY ARE ARE TRENDING ABOUT THE SAME FOR JANUARY.

SO WE SAW THOSE SAME NUMBERS.

THE NEXT SLIDES, THE NEXT FOUR SLIDES ARE JUST THE ACTUAL COUNTS PER SCHOOL, PER GRADE.

SO IT'S A LOT MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.

AND IT'S JUST GOOD TO LOOK AT IF YOU, YOU KNOW, ARE CURIOUS ABOUT A SCHOOL IN THEIR ENROLLMENT.

SO THOSE ARE SOME GOOD RESOURCE DOCUMENTS FOR YOU.

[01:00:02]

SO ANY QUESTIONS ON ENROLLMENT.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

AND, KEVIN IS OUT SICK TODAY.

AND THAT BRINGS US TO AMANDA.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING.

A COUPLE OF THINGS FOR YOU. SOME OF THEM HAVE ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED, SO, SHOULD BE PRETTY SHORT, BUT I WANTED TO START OUT BY SHARING SOME OF THE RECENT NEWS COVERAGE INVOLVING THE DISTRICT, INCLUDING AN ARTICLE THAT WAS IN THE REFLECTOR JUST RECENTLY.

IT WAS IN THE PRINT EDITION ON THE 17TH, AND IT'S ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE.

THIS IS FROM A CONVERSATION THAT DENNY AND SHELLY AND KEVIN HAD WITH A REPORTER ABOUT THE CAPITAL LEVY AND WHAT THE NEEDS ARE AND WHAT IT WOULD PAY FOR.

SO A LOT OF IN-DEPTH INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THAT ARTICLE.

THE COLUMBIAN ALSO SPOKE WITH DENNY ON FRIDAY, AND SO WE EXPECT THAT ARTICLE TO APPEAR IN THE NEXT WEEK OR SO IN THAT PAPER.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

THE REFLECTOR ALSO CAME TO BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND ENDED UP COVERING THE RECENT REOPENING OF THE IQ CREDIT UNION BRANCH IN THE SCHOOL.

SO THAT'S KIND OF A NEAT PROGRAM WHERE STUDENTS NOT ONLY GAIN FINANCIAL LITERACY SKILLS, BUT ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO AN INTERNSHIP WITH IQ CREDIT UNION.

AND THEY SHARED THAT THEY HAVE MORE THAN 20 CURRENT EMPLOYEES WHO STARTED THEIR OWN CAREERS IN HIGH SCHOOL BRANCHES.

SO IT'S KIND OF A NEAT PATH OR OPPORTUNITY IF THEY CHOOSE TO TAKE THAT, AS WELL AS JUST GOOD WORK EXPERIENCE, PERIOD.

AND THE REFLECTOR ALSO HAD AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE UPCOMING INDUSTRY FAIR ON FEBRUARY 15TH, AND I BELIEVE THEY ARE STILL LOOKING FOR VENDORS.

IF ANYONE IS SO INTERESTED IN HAVING A TABLE AT THAT EVENT.

AND ALSO SOME COVERAGE OF OUR HIRING EVENT, WHICH MICHELLE JUST MENTIONED EARLIER.

THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

A COUPLE OF RECENT STORIES.

WE HAD A PROFILE ABOUT, VANESSA MUNSON, WHO'S A PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL GRAD AND MISS WASHINGTON, AND SHE RECENTLY REPRESENTED PRAIRIE AND THE STATE IN THE MISS AMERICA COMPETITION A COUPLE OF WEEKENDS AGO.

SO SHE DID A GREAT JOB REPRESENTING.

AND THEN WE HAD SOME RECENT PODCAST EPISODES, ONE WHICH TALKED ABOUT E-SPORTS, WHICH YOU HEARD ABOUT A COUPLE MONTHS AGO.

IT WAS A GREAT CONVERSATION.

AND THEN ALSO ONE ABOUT THE DISTRICT'S MULTILINGUAL PROGRAM AND ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT WE SUPPORT THE MANY DIFFERENT LANGUAGES SPOKEN IN THE DISTRICT.

SO BOTH GREAT CONVERSATIONS AND THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

AND LASTLY, A LOT OF UPCOMING EVENTS.

IN ADDITION TO WHAT'S ALREADY BEEN MENTIONED, DUAL CREDIT AND INFORMATION NIGHT IS TOMORROW ON ZOOM.

AND THAT SHARES INFORMATION ABOUT ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS STUDENTS CAN EARN DUAL CREDIT, RANGING FROM RUNNING START AND AP CLASSES TO CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION CLASSES, CASCADIA TECH AND MANY OTHER OPTIONS.

AND THEN YOU HEARD DURING THE WORK SESSION [INAUDIBLE] IS CELEBRATING ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY NEXT WEEK AS WELL, SO THAT'S A FUN EVENT FOR THEM.

AND THEN ALSO THE AFOREMENTIONED INDUSTRY FAIR IN FEBRUARY.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

AND THAT'S IT FOR SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATE.

THANK YOU.

THAT BRINGS US TO CITIZENS COMMENTS.

[7. Citizens' Comments]

WE HAVE FOUR CITIZENS SIGNED UP TONIGHT.

STARTING WITH GRETCHEN [INAUDIBLE] SORA WILL.

SORA YOU HAVE THE CARDS? YES, YES. SO SORA WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE 30 SECONDS LEFT.

SHE'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE NO TIME LEFT.

THERE ALSO IS A TIMER ON THE SCREEN.

OKAY, SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE OUR PHONE OUT.

GREAT. THANK YOU SANDY.

OKAY. GOOD EVENING.

BOARD. MY NAME IS GRETCHEN [INAUDIBLE] I'M A HAPPILY MARRIED TO CONRAD.

I'M A GRANDMA.

I'M A MOM, AND I'M A MEMBER OF CLARK COUNTY AND THIS BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

MY TOPIC TONIGHT IS LIBRARY MATERIAL.

I WANT YOU TO REMEMBER THOSE PRECIOUS KIDS THAT WERE UP HERE A LITTLE BIT AGO AND, OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THEM.

I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT, I MEAN, AS THEY COME UP, WE WANT TO PROTECT THEM.

THEY'RE GOING TO GO HOME AND DO WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO GO HOME AND DO AND BE WITH THE FAMILY THEY'RE GOING TO BE WITH.

BUT WHEN THEY'RE UNDER OUR CARE, WE HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO THEM.

AND I THINK THAT WE ALL AGREE WITH THAT.

I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT, SOME BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY.

THERE ARE 154 OF THESE ALTOGETHER, THAT ARE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL, FOR SURE.

I WANT TO MENTION THREE BOOKS.

THIS ONE SUMMER IS ONE, BELOVED BY TONI MORRISON IS ANOTHER NDA THEN THE LAST ONE IS SKIN BY DONNA JO NAPOLI.

NOW I WANT TO GO THROUGH THE RATING REAL QUICK.

IF A BOOK IS RATED THREE, THAT MEANS THAT IT'S RESTRICTED TO MINORS UNDER 18.

THEY ARE, REQUIRED, TO HAVE GUIDANCE FROM A PARENT OR A GUARDIAN BECAUSE OF VIOLENCE, EXTREME

[01:05:04]

FREQUENT HATE, EXCESSIVE PROFANITY, AND REFERENCES TO SEXUAL ACTIVITIES THAT DO NOT INCLUDE PENETRATION, FELLATIO, CUNNILINGUS, OR EJACULATION, AND THERE IS DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE.

NOW, WHEN YOU GET RATED FOUR OUT OF FIVE AND BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL HAS, I THINK, 23 OF THESE BOOKS, IN THEIR LIBRARY AND RATED FOUR OUT OF FIVE IS ADULT CONTENT ONLY.

NO CHILD UNDER 18 SHOULD VIEW IT BECAUSE OF EXPLICIT SEXUAL NUDITY.

DEPICTIONS OF SEXUAL ORGANS IN A STATE OF AROUSAL, OBSCENE REFERENCES TO SEXUAL ACTIVITIES, ANAL, ORAL OR VAGINAL INTERCOURSE, INTERCOURSE, FINGERING OR EJACULATION, ANILINGUS, ORAL AND ANAL SEX, AND ANOTHER BOOK, SKIN BY DONNA JO NAPOLI, IS ALSO RATED FOUR OUT OF FIVE.

GRETCHEN YOU HAVE 30 SECONDS.

OH, THANKS. SO THERE ARE, 23 OF THE FOUR OUT OF FIVES AT BATTLE GROUND AND 25 AT PRAIRIE, WHICH I DON'T THINK IS ACCEPTABLE.

AND SO I AM REQUESTING THE BOARD TO REPEAT.

I'VE EMAILED THIS TO YOU BACK IN NOVEMBER.

THIS IS THE RESOLUTION THAT WE DO NEED, BECAUSE THESE ARE FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS AND GETTING INTO OUR LIBRARIES.

AND IT'S A RESOLUTION TO, RESTRICTION OF PORNOGRAPHY.

IT'S AN EASY RESOLUTION.

IT'S ONLY ONE PAGE.

I'M GOING TO LEAVE IT WITH YOU NOW.

THANK YOU. TAKE ONE.

PASS IT DOWN. MAY I ASK A QUESTION? IS THAT APPROPRIATE? ASK ADMINISTRATION.

WE DON'T DIRECTLY ADDRESS THE CITIZENS.

OKAY, THEN I'LL ASK THE ADMINISTRATION LATER.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

SURE. WELL, LET ME ASK THE ADMINISTRATION.

MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THE PUBLIC HAS BEEN ENCOURAGED TO BRING ANYTHING THAT THEY DISCOVER LIKE THIS TO.

THERE'S A PROCESS.

YEAH, THEY CAN GO THROUGH A PROCESS.

I THINK IT WAS SAID IT GOES THROUGH LIBRARIANS.

RIGHT. THAT'S THE FIRST STEP.

OKAY. AND THEY CAN SUBMIT A THEY CAN SUBMIT A, A REQUEST, A REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION.

YEAH. OKAY. YEAH.

THERE IS A PROCESS IN PLACE.

THANK YOU. THOSE ARE LISTED IN POLICIES 20, 2851, I BELIEVE YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

OKAY. OUR NEXT CITIZEN, I BELIEVE, IS BUFFY.

IF I HAVE THAT RIGHT.

YES. OH. THANK YOU.

WILL YOU PLEASE COME UP? [INAUDIBLE] SO I'M GOING TO DOVETAIL OFF OF WHAT GRETCHEN WAS SAYING.

I'M KIND OF NEW IN THE DISTRICT.

MY NAME IS BUFFY SPARGUR, AND MY DAUGHTER IS A FRESHMAN AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

AND I WANT TO THANK THE BOARD FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND YOUR DEDICATION TO THE SCHOOL AND TO THE CHILDREN.

AND I'M ALSO HERE TONIGHT TO ENCOURAGE THE BOARD TO ADOPT AND PUT INTO PLACE A RESOLUTION THAT HAS BEEN EMAILED TO THE BOARD AND IS BEING DISCUSSED THIS EVENING.

IT'S A RESOLUTION TO HOPEFULLY ASSIST THE SCHOOL STAFF AND THE PARENTS IN BEING ABLE TO EXERCISE CARE AND ATTENTION IN WHAT BOOKS ARE ORDERED AND PLACED IN OUR SCHOOL LIBRARIES.

WE DO ENCOURAGE OUR KIDS AT HOME AND AT SCHOOL TO READ NOT JUST FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES, BUT TO LEARN TO LOVE THE JOY OF READING.

I LOVE TO READ PERSONALLY, AND THOUGH I DON'T HAVE THE TIME I USED TO HAVE ALL THROUGHOUT SCHOOL, I WAS AN AVID READER FOR THE SHEER ENJOYMENT OF IT.

WE HAVE CHILDREN IN ALL GRADES HERE AT THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT ALSO LOVE TO READ.

THIS IS WHY IT'S IMPERATIVE THAT YOU ARE MONITORING THE BOOKS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM.

LET ME BEGIN WITH A SITE CALLED BOOK LOOKS, WHICH WAS WHAT GRETCHEN WAS TALKING ABOUT.

THIS SITE WAS DEVELOPED AS A MEANS OF ASSESSING THE APPROPRIATENESS OF A BOOK FOR A CHILD OR YOUNG ADULT, BASED ON THE CONTENT OF THE BOOK WITH THE RATING SYSTEM.

THIS SITE CONTAINS OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL THAT IS FOUND IN THE BOOK BEING REVIEWED AND RATED.

THEIR REPORTS INCLUDE A WIDE ARRAY OF POTENTIALLY CONTROVERSIAL CONTENT.

SOME OF THE INCLUDED CONTENT MAY NOT SEEM CONTROVERSIAL CONTROVERSIAL TO ALL, BUT TO SOME IT IS INCLUDED SO PARENTS CAN BE AWARE AND GUIDE THEIR CHILD'S READING AS THEY SEE FIT.

THE RATINGS DESCRIBED ON THIS SITE ARE BASED SOLELY ON CONTENT THAT HAS BEEN LEGALLY AND STATUTORILY CATEGORIZED AS EXPLICIT, OFFENSIVE, OR OBSCENE, SIMILAR TO WHAT IS DONE FOR OTHER MEDIA RATINGS SUCH AS MOTION PICTURES, TELEVISION, AND VIDEO GAMES.

I WON'T GO THROUGH THE RATINGS BECAUSE GRETCHEN DID, BUT I WAS ABLE TO ACCESS THE LIBRARY CATALOGS OVER THIS WEEKEND FOR BOTH PRAIRIE AND BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

WHAT I FOUND WAS ALARMING.

FOR THE SAKE OF TIME AND THE POSSIBLE AGE GROUP I WAS DEALING WITH, I REFRAINED FROM CHECKING BOOKS BETWEEN 0 AND 2 RATINGS.

[01:10:03]

IN PRAIRIE, I FOUND 72 BOOKS RATED BETWEEN 3 AND 5, AND 82 BOOKS IN THE BATTLE GROUND LIBRARY.

OF THESE 154 BOOKS BETWEEN THE TWO LIBRARIES, I FOUND 25 OF THESE BOOKS TO BE CHECKED OUT RIGHT NOW AND IN THE HANDS OF ONE OR MORE OF OUR STUDENTS.

11 OF THESE ARE RATED FOUR AND FIVE BY BOOK LOOKS.

I HAVE PROVIDED A LIST OF THESE BOOKS AND SOME PRINTOUTS, WHICH I'LL HAND TO YOU, FOR THE BOARD TO REVIEW AT A LATER DATE.

I'M CERTAIN THAT YOU'LL BE AS SHOCKED AS I AM.

BE WARNED, SOME OF THESE REVIEWS ARE EXTREMELY GRAPHIC AND MIGHT BE DISTURBING TO THE READER.

I WOULD LIKE TO COMMENT THAT NONE OF THESE BOOKS, IN MY OPINION, HAVE ANY EDUCATIONAL OR REDEEMING FACTORS AND SHOULD NOT BE IN THE SCHOOL LIBRARY WHATSOEVER.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND I'LL LOOK UP GOING TO THE LIBRARIAN WITH THIS.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

VICTORIA FARRAR.

HELLO, BOARD.

HOW ARE YOU DOING TONIGHT? SO YEAH, I'M GOING TO PIGGY BACK OFF THOSE LADIES AND JUST, REQUEST THAT YOU GUYS TAKE A LOOK AT THE RESOLUTION AS A BOARD. YOU KNOW, I KNOW YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO PRESENT IT TO A LEGAL TEAM, AND THAT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU GUYS WOULD BE WILLING TO DO THAT.

MAYBE HAVE YOUR LEGAL TEAM SAY, HEY, HAS THIS GOT SOME FEET, SOME TEETH THAT WE CAN USE? AND THEN AT LEASE AT THE VERY MOST LET US KNOW AT THE NEXT BOARD MEETING WE COME SO WE CAN SEE THAT YOU GUYS ARE ACTUALLY LISTENING.

AND YOU ARE YOU'RE HEARING OUR CONCERNS AND JUST BE LIKE, HEY, WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF IT.

SO WE DON'T HAVE TO KEEP BUGGING YOU GUYS BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAD AN AMAZING NIGHT.

THIS WAS REALLY FUN LISTENING TO THE KIDS, HEARING ALL THE GREAT STUFF [INAUDIBLE] WE HAVE TO WE HAVE TO BE THE BORING PART.

YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, THE MOMS ARE LIKE, SO BUT SO I DO APOLOGIZE FOR THAT.

SO YEAH, I'M JUST GOING TO ASK THAT YOU BE WILLING TO TAKE A LOOK AT THE RESOLUTION I WAS ABLE TO TAKE.

SO I KIND OF LIKE THE IDEA THAT THESE LADIES TOLD ME ABOUT THIS BOOK LOOKS.

AND BECAUSE I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW, HEY, DO THEY HAVE A RATING FOR BOOKS OUT THERE SO I CAN KNOW WHAT MY KID IS READING? AND FOR A LONG TIME WE HAVEN'T HAD THAT.

AND FINALLY WE HAVE SOMETHING.

SO I TOOK A LOOK AT BOOK LOOKS JUST TO SEE, BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE TAKING PEOPLE'S, YOU KNOW, WORD BECAUSE EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN IDEAS ON WHAT'S APPROPRIATE, WHAT'S NOT.

SO I WAS LIKE, LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT THIS RATING.

AND YEAH, I'M NOT GOING TO SAY IT IN FRONT OF YOU GALS.

BUT THERE WAS THERE WAS SOME STUFF THAT I'M 45 AND I'M LIKE, YEAH, I DON'T WANT TO READ THAT FILTH.

AND I DEFINITELY WOULDN'T WANT MY HIGH SCHOOLERS READING IT, NOR MY 12 YEAR OLD SO.

BUT I WILL SAY SOMETHING POSITIVE.

I DID DO THE PROCESS DENNY I DID GET A HOLD OF WENT TO THE LIBRARIAN AND SHE ALREADY PULLED ONE BECAUSE SOMEBODY I DON'T KNOW WHO, OBVIOUSLY, BUT THEY ASKED TO PULL THE BOOK. SHE'S LIKE, IT'S BEING PULLED RIGHT NOW.

WE ARE REVIEWING IT, SO I WILL GIVE KUDOS THAT PART OF THE POLICY IS WORKING NOW THAT WE KNOW IT EXISTS.

BUT THEN, YEAH, MAYBE THE RESOLUTION COULD MAKE IT EASIER SO US PARENTS DON'T HAVE TO GO ABOUT, HEY, WE GOT THESE 67 BOOKS.

MAYBE INSTEAD, LIKE, HEY, HERE'S THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD PORNOGRAPHY.

AND THESE ARE THESE THESE WHEN YOU SEE THIS KIND OF STUFF THAT'S IN THESE DEFINITIONS, LET'S LET THIS, YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE WHOLE PROCESS IS, I DO APOLOGIZE, I AM NAÏVE. SO PLEASE, I'M ALWAYS OPEN FOR EDUCATION AND I DON'T LIKE CALLING YOU GUYS.

MAYBE BE BETTER THAN ME BEING HERE EVERY NIGHT.

BUT THIS IS WHERE THE CITIZENS GET TO TALK TO YOU GUYS AT A WHOLE.

SO I DO APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND HAVE A GOOD EVENING.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

JENNIFER [INAUDIBLE].

GOOD EVENING.

I'M GOING TO FINISH UP WITH SOMETHING THAT IS, A COMMENT THAT WE ALWAYS HEAR FROM, PARENTS OR PEOPLE WHO ARE IN FAVOR OF HAVING THESE CONTROVERSIAL BOOKS THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IN THE LIBRARY.

AND WHAT WE HEAR A LOT TODAY IS YOU ARE TRYING TO CENSOR THE LIBRARIES.

AND CENSORSHIP YOU KNOW, IT'S KIND OF A FOUR LETTER WORD.

WELL, LET ME TALK ABOUT THIS.

WE CENSOR ALL SORTS OF THINGS THAT ARE PUT IN FRONT OF OUR CHILDREN.

WHY DO WE DO THIS? BECAUSE THEY'RE CHILDREN AND THEIR MINDS ARE STILL DEVELOPING.

THEY'RE VULNERABLE.

IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS THAT THE DISTRICT HAS CENSORS IN PLACE ON THE THE KIDS CHROMEBOOKS ON SCHOOL COMPUTERS. YOU KNOW, A CHILD CAN'T JUST GO AND LOOK UP ANY WEBSITE THEY WANT TO ON THEIR STUDENT CHROMEBOOK.

IT IS WHY WE HAVE GUIDELINES FOR TEACHERS OF WHAT TYPES OF VIDEOS THEY SHOW IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

SO WE DO USE CENSORSHIP WHEN IT COMES TO OUR KIDS.

[01:15:01]

THE LIBRARY SHOULDN'T BE ANY DIFFERENT.

YOU KNOW, I'VE ALSO HEARD THAT, THE JUSTIFICATION FOR HAVING SOME OF THESE BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY IS WE WANT STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO SEE THEMSELVES IN THE STORIES.

WELL, WHAT THAT MEANS IS WE HAVE A CHILD THAT HAS BEEN THE VICTIM OF SEXUAL ABUSE, PEDOPHILIA, INCEST, SEXUAL VIOLENCE, PHYSICAL VIOLENCE.

AND INSTEAD OF TREATING THAT CHILD AS THEY NEED TO BE LOVED AND CARED FOR AND SEE A QUALIFIED THERAPIST, WE'RE GOING TO PUT A BOOK IN THEIR HANDS THAT WILL REVICTIMIZE THEM WITH A STORY OF WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH, AND I DON'T SEE THAT THAT IS A HELP FOR ANYBODY. YOU KNOW, IF A PARENT WANTS THEIR CHILD TO LOOK AT ANY OF THESE BOOKS, THEY CAN TAKE THEM TO THE LOCAL LIBRARY WHERE THEY'RE WITH THEIR CHILD, AND THEY CAN TALK TO THEM ABOUT THE MATERIAL AS THEIR CHILD IS PULLING IT OFF THE SHELF.

BUT, YOU KNOW, WHEN THE CHILD GOES INTO THE PUBLIC LIBRARY OR INTO THE SCHOOL LIBRARY, EVEN IF A PARENT HAS SAID THESE BOOKS, I DON'T WANT MY CHILD TO LOOK AT, THAT CHILD CAN STILL GO INTO THE LIBRARY, PULL IT OFF THE SHELF, LOOK AT IT, AND THEN PUT IT RIGHT BACK ON THE SHELF.

AND MOM, DAD, THE LIBRARIAN DOESN'T EVEN KNOW.

SO I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE SOME GUIDELINES IN PLACE, FOR NOT ONLY THIS GENERATION, BUT COMING GENERATIONS OF WHAT IS AND IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO PUT IN FRONT OF STUDENTS.

AND THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING THAT AT THE NEXT MEETING, YOU BRING THE RESOLUTION FORWARD AND PUT IT ON THE AGENDA.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT, THAT COMPLETES OUR CITIZENS COMMENTS FOR THIS EVENING.

NEXT, WE MOVE ON TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[8. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA, WE HAVE ITEMS A-F, WHICH INCLUDE THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM OUR PREVIOUS MEETING.

PERSONNEL REPORTS, STUDENT TRAVEL, FINANCIAL REPORTS, AND THE APPROVAL OF THE 24-25 SCHOOL CALENDAR.

ARE THERE ANY ITEMS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THAT ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS ON, OR WOULD LIKE REMOVE TO BE DISCUSSED AS A SEPARATE ITEM? I MOVE THAT THE CONSENT AGENDA BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED.

OKAY. WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA.

AS AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PRO.

ANY FURTHER OR FINAL QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA WE HAVE OLD BUSINESS, WHICH THERE IS NONE.

[10. New Business (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

SO THAT BRINGS US ON TO NEW BUSINESS, WHICH IS THE FIRST ITEM ON THE LIST IS THE APPROVAL OF THE NEW COURSE.

CODE INTENSIVE MATH.

I SEE MR. DRAKE.

THANK YOU BOARD.

SO THE FIRST THESE ARE NEW COURSE PROPOSALS.

THE TWO THAT I'M PRESENTING TONIGHT DIDN'T GET IN IN TIME FOR THE LAST ROUND WHEN I WAS UP HERE A FEW MONTHS AGO.

SO THE NEW COURSE GUIDE IS AS CLOSE TO BEING DONE AS POSSIBLE.

AND FORECASTING, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, FOR NEXT YEAR BEGINS WITHIN ABOUT THE NEXT TWO WEEKS AT ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS.

SO COMPLETING THE COURSE GUIDE IS A BIG TASK.

AND I KNOW SHE'S NOT HERE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK JENNA AND OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT AND AMANDA FOR THEIR WORK ON THE COURSE GUIDE.

SO THIS COURSE IS, AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL AND IT IS INTENSIVE MATH INTENSIVE, MATH 1C AND QUITE HONESTLY, WHAT WE'RE WORKING WITH PRAIRIE ON IS IDENTIFYING COURSES, PARTICULARLY FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT AT GRADE LEVEL IN MATH.

AND SO THIS INTENSIVE MATH 1C IS DIRECTED TOWARDS STUDENTS WHO HAVE MATH GOALS ON THEIR IEPS.

AND THIS IS THE CLASS THAT THEY COULD ACCESS IN ORDER TO FIND SUCCESS WITHIN MATH.

SO IT WOULD BE KIND OF IN GENERAL TERMS, IT'S MORE OF A PRE-ALGEBRA COURSE.

SO STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE MATH GOALS ON THEIR IEPS, WE HAVE TO START THEM AT ALGEBRA ONE, OTHERWISE THEY WON'T GET TO WHERE THEY NEED TO GET IN ORDER TO GRADUATE.

STUDENTS WITH MATH GOALS CAN START LOWER THAN ALGEBRA ONE AND STILL GRADUATE.

SO THIS THAT IS WHAT THIS COURSE WOULD BE.

YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING INTENSIVE MATH 1C?

[01:20:06]

SO I'M, I'M GUESSING WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE IS A STUDENT RATHER THAN HAVING ONE HOUR OR ONE, PERIOD OF MATH, THEY'D HAVE TWO.

AND THE SECOND ONE WOULD BE TO SUPPORT THE THE FIRST PERIOD OF MATH.

IS THAT KIND OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE? NOT NECESSARILY WITH THIS.

SO THIS WOULD BE A STUDENT WORKING WITH THEIR RESOURCE TEACHER AND ACCESSING THE CURRICULUM WITH THEIR RESOURCE TEACHER.

SO WE OF COURSE WANT ALL STUDENTS TO ACCESS THEIR MATH WITH THEIR PEERS AT GRADE LEVEL.

AND SO THAT WOULD BE WHERE WE WOULD, YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHERE WE WOULD LIKE MOST STUDENTS TO TO HAVE THEIR MATH GOALS SERVED IF THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND SUCCESS WITHIN AN ALGEBRA ONE OR SOME OF OUR OTHER CO-TAUGHT ALGEBRA COURSES, THEY WOULD ACCESS IT THROUGH INTENSIVE MATH 1C WITH THEIR RESOURCE TEACHER.

OKAY. I JUST HAD ONE QUESTION.

SO LOOKING AT THE, OH, I ACTUALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU CALL THIS LIKE OH, THE PROPOSAL, LOOKING AT THE PROPOSAL.

SO IT'S OPEN TO GRADES 9 THROUGH 12, BUT THERE'S A PREREQUISITE OF 1B MATH.

SO CAN YOU FULFILL THAT WITHIN MIDDLE SCHOOL IF YOU'RE A FRESHMAN.

IS THAT HOW THAT WORKS OR WHAT DO YOU FIND FRESHMAN NOT TAKING THIS COURSE.

YOU PROBABLY WOULDN'T FIND FRESHMEN TAKING THIS COURSE, YOU KNOW, IT'S BASED ON THE INDIVIDUAL NEED OF THE STUDENT.

SO IT'S KIND OF HARD TO MAKE BLANKET STATEMENTS.

BUT I UNDERSTAND YOUR QUESTION BECAUSE LOGICALLY, IT WOULD BE TOUGH TO ACCESS 1C AS A FRESHMAN IF YOU HAVEN'T TAKEN 1B, BUT I THINK THEY WOULD PLACE THE STUDENT WHERE YOU KNOW, WHERE THEY WOULD FIND SUCCESS BASED ON THEIR SKILLS.

AND SO A FRESHMAN COULD TECHNICALLY START IN 1C.

GREAT QUESTION, JULIA.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO ADOPT THE NEW COURSE PROPOSAL INTENSIVE MATH 1C.

OKAY, WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO ADOPT THE NEW COURSE PROPOSAL.

INTENSIVE MATH 1C.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PRO.

ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

THANK YOU BOARD. NEXT.

NEW BUSINESS IS ITEM B, APPROVAL OF NEW COURSE CODE ENGLISH 4 MR. DRAKE TO THINK ABOUT MY ROMAN NUMERALS THERE FOR A SECOND.

THANK YOU. AND THIS IS A COURSE PRIMARILY ACTUALLY, ONLY AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

AND SO, TO PUT IN SIMPLISTIC TERMS, THEY WERE LOOKING FOR A SENIOR ELECTIVE OPTION FOR STUDENTS, PREDOMINANTLY STUDENTS WITH IEP GOALS AND WHO MAY NOT WANT TO ACCESS SENIOR ELECTIVES LIKE POETRY AND OTHER COURSES THAT ARE CURRENTLY OFFERED.

AND SO THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT FELT LIKE THERE WOULD BE A GOOD OPTION FOR A CO-TAUGHT SENIOR ENGLISH ELECTIVE.

AND SO THAT'S WHAT ENGLISH 4, THAT'S THE NEED ENGLISH 4 WOULD MEET.

THE CURRICULUM THEY WOULD USE WOULD BE CURRICULUM THAT'S ALREADY BEEN ADOPTED.

COMMON LIT IS A CURRICULUM THAT HAS BEEN USED IN THIS DISTRICT.

AND SO THE THE COURSE PROPOSAL, IF YOU READ THROUGH IT SHOWS THE DIFFERENT UNITS AND THE DIFFERENT MATERIAL THAT THEY WOULD MATERIAL THEY WOULD ACCESS FOR THIS COURSE.

IS IT TIME FOR QUESTIONS? YES. I ONCE ASKED YOU ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT YOUR JOB WAS, AND I CAN.

MR. TATE, IS THIS ABOUT ENGLISH 4? [LAUGHTER] OKAY. THANK YOU.

AND I WANT TO PUT YOU ON THE SPOT WITH AN OPINION IF YOU CAN AND NO ANSWER IS FINE.

OKAY. AS WE LOOK AT THESE COURSE OFFERINGS AND AS I REMEMBER HOW IT WAS IN 8TH GRADE, TRYING TO GUIDE MY STUDENTS INTO COURSE OFFERINGS, IT SEEMS LIKE ALL THE TIME WE'RE MODIFYING THESE KIND OF 4S AND C'S AND THINGS, YOU KNOW AND SO ARE WE MAKING GOOD PROGRESS TOWARDS GETTING A HANDLE ON THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND OFFERING THEM COURSES THAT WILL GET THEM TO WHERE THEY NEED TO BE FOR GRADUATION PURPOSES? DO YOU FEEL LIKE WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS THROUGH ALL THIS STUFF? YES, I DO, I MEAN, I THINK THAT'S A FAIR QUESTION.

I DO, AND I THINK THE THE TEAM AT BATTLE GROUND IS DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB OF, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE NOT CREATING THIS BECAUSE THERE WAS AN ADULT SITTING THERE FEELING LIKE, HEY, I REALLY WANT TO TEACH ENGLISH 4.

WHAT THEY'RE DOING IS LOOKING AT THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND SEEING WHAT STUDENTS ARE SIGNING UP FOR AND WHAT STUDENTS ARE HAVING SUCCESS IN.

AND THEY FELT AS A TEAM THAT CO-TAUGHT OPTION FOR A SENIOR ELECTIVE ENGLISH WOULD ALLOW STUDENTS TO HAVE SUCCESS.

IT'S NOT THAT THEY WEREN'T BEING SUCCESSFUL IN THE CURRENT ELECTIVE OFFERINGS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY AMAZING TEACHERS WITH AMAZING COURSE OFFERINGS, BUT THEY WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAD OPTIONS FOR EVERYONE.

AND YOU KNOW, THE GREAT THING WITH THESE NEW COURSES, IF STUDENTS DON'T FORECAST FOR THEM, THEY DON'T THEY DON'T RUN.

[01:25:02]

RIGHT. AND SO I THINK THIS IS AN OPTION FOR STUDENTS IF THEY SO CHOOSE.

AND I THINK THEY'LL HAVE SOME SUCCESS.

THANK YOU. YEAH, I APPRECIATE YOUR OPINION.

ABSOLUTELY. JUST TO FOLLOW UP WITH THAT, I HAD A SENIOR LAST YEAR AT BATTLE GROUND, AND I HAVE A SENIOR THIS YEAR AT BATTLE GROUND, AND THEY WOULD HAVE PREFERRED THIS OPTION OVER WHAT THEY ENDED UP TAKING.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? HEARING NONE. I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.

I MAKE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE COURSE OFFERING OF ENGLISH 4 AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO ADOPT THE NEW COURSE CODE ENGLISH 4, LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPS FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PRO.

ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA WE HAVE REVISION OF POLICY 2255 ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS, MR. DRAKE. I NEED TO GO GRAB THAT PIECE OF PAPER.

OKAY, WE'LL LET YOU.MIC] OKAY SO, POLICY 2255 THE THERE ARE SO THIS IS AROUND THE ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROGRAM.

SO IT'S A BOARD POLICY THAT ADDRESSES ALE PROGRAMS. AND WE HEARD FROM MATT AND SUSAN EARLIER ABOUT RIVER HOMELINK BEING ONE OF THE OPTIONS WE PROVIDE, WE HAVE OTHER ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMS THAT HAVE EXISTED FOR NUMEROUS YEARS CAM BEING ONE OF THEM, SUMMIT VIEW BEING THE OTHER.

AND MOST RECENTLY WE OPENED UP BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY, WHICH IT IS NEW IN NAME, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY A PROGRAM PROGRAM THAT HAS EXISTED UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF RIVER HOMELINK FOR YEARS. AND SO ONE OF THE PRIMARY CHANGES IN UPDATING POLICY 2255 WAS IN OUR PREVIOUS POLICY WE DIDN'T INCLUDE BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY BECAUSE IT DIDN'T EXIST. AND SO THAT'S ONE OF THE MAJOR CHANGES, ADDING BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY.

AND THEN THERE ARE SOME CHANGES IN THE ANNUAL REPORTING THAT WE'RE REQUIRED.

WE ARE REQUIRED TO MAKE EACH MONTH IN TERMS OF NUMBER OF CERTIFICATED STAFF, ENROLLMENT, COST OF INSTRUCTION, AND ALE ETC.

THERE'S SOME DIFFERENT ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS WITH ALE PROGRAMS THAT HAVE BEEN UPDATED BASED ON THE MODEL POLICY SENT DOWN FROM THE STATE.

AND FINALLY, THERE'S COMMUNICATION AND EXPECTATION OF COMMUNICATION TO OTHER RESIDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS WHEN STUDENTS DROP OUT OF OUR ALE PROGRAMS. SO IF A STUDENT FROM THE VANCOUVER SCHOOL DISTRICT ACCESSES ONE OF OUR ALE PROGRAMS, THERE'S COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS OF US COMMUNICATING BACK TO VANCOUVER SCHOOL DISTRICT TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THAT STUDENT IS NO LONGER ACCESSING THEIR EDUCATION IN OUR PROGRAM.

SO, THOSE ARE THE CHANGES MADE.

THE BIG PIECE OF UPDATING THIS POLICY WAS ADDING BATTLE GROUND VIRTUAL ACADEMY.

SO ASIDE FROM THAT HICCUP, BECAUSE OF THE LATE ADD, EVERYTHING'S STATE REQUIRED, CORRECT? OKAY. SO IS THAT A NEW REQUIREMENT FOR REPORTING TO THE OTHER DISTRICT IF IF THEY DROP OUT OR THAT JUST.

FROM WHAT I CAN TELL, NO, I DON'T THINK ANY OF IT'S NEW.

BUT YOU KNOW, AS I'M GOING THROUGH THIS PROCESS OF UPDATING THESE POLICIES, SOME OF THE CHANGES YOU'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY THEY MADE THE CHANGE IN THE FIRST PLACE, THERE WAS NOTHING IN HERE THAT DIDN'T EXIST BEFORE, BUT IT IS ALL NEW IN HOW IT'S PRESENTED.

WELL, I MEAN, IT JUST SEEMS I'M THINKING IT'S IMPORTANT NOW THAT I UNDERSTAND HOW MANY OUT OF DISTRICT PEOPLE ARE AT RIVER HOMELINK.

AND IT'S OUR RESPONSIBILITY IF THEY DROP OUT.

OKAY. CORRECT. JUST INTERESTING.

OTHER QUESTIONS.

I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 2255 ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS. OKAY. WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 2255 FOR ALTERNATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS, I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PRO.

ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

LAST UNDER NEW BUSINESS IS THE REVISION OF POLICY 6550 CAPITALIZATION THRESHOLD FOR LEASE AND SUBSCRIPTION BASED TECHNOLOGY ARRANGEMENTS.

MICHELLE SCOTT. THAT'S A MOUTHFUL, ISN'T IT? [INAUDIBLE] SO YOU SAW THIS ON OCTOBER AS WE PRESENTED THIS NEW POLICY.

THIS IS BASED ON NEW ACCOUNTING GUIDELINES.

WELL AFTER THE POLICY WAS ADOPTED WRITTEN BY WSSDA AND WE ADOPTED THE THE WSSDA POLICY, THERE WAS SOME CHANGES BY THE STATE AUDITORS.

[01:30:01]

THEY JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS, YOU KNOW, MORE DETAILED IN WHAT THEY THOUGHT.

SO, THE SCHEDULE OF LONG TERM LIABILITIES, WHICH IS ONE OF THE CHANGES, IS INCLUDED IN OUR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.

BUT THEY JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY REALIZED THAT THE SBITAS WERE ON THAT, NOT JUST IN THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS.

SO THAT WAS SOME CLARITY THAT THEY WANTED TO PROVIDE.

AND THEN ALSO THEY THEY PREFERRED TOTAL PAYMENTS VERSUS VALUE.

SO JUST A FEW LITTLE CHANGES THAT REALLY MAKE NO CHANGE IN WHAT WE DO, OUR PRACTICE.

AND, AND FOLLOWING THE, THE GUIDELINES OF ACCOUNTING FOR SBITAS IS IT'S JUST A MATTER OF JUST SOME CLARITY WITHIN THE POLICY ON HOW IT READS FOR THE PUBLIC.

SEEING FOR YOUR APPROVAL.

ANY QUESTIONS? I'M LOOKING AT THE CHANGES, THE GREENS AND THE CROSS-OUTS AND THINGS.

WHO'S MAKING THESE PROPOSALS THAT WE CHANGED? WSSDA.

WSSDA. YEAH. THEY RECEIVED FEEDBACK FROM THE STATE AUDITOR'S OFFICE ON THIS.

AND SO THAT WAS THEIR RECOMMENDATION OKAY.

I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE REVISION ON POLICY 6550 CAPITALIZATION THRESHOLD FOR LEASE AND SUBSCRIPTION BASED INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ARRANGEMENTS. I'M ONLY GOING TO SAY THAT ONCE.

[LAUGHTER] I'M GLAD YOU DID THAT.

ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TO APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 6550.

I'M GOING TO LOOK TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FOR THEIR ADVISORY VOTE.

PRO. ALL THAT GASB JUST REALLY GETS.

YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT GASB IS? [INAUDIBLE].

DO YOU WANT TO SHARE WHAT GASB IS? GOVERNMENTAL ACCOUNTING STANDARDS BOARD IS THE NATIONAL, FUN STUFF.

YEAH. FUN STUFF.

YEAH. ALL RIGHT.

ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES 5 TO 0.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

AND I WANTED TO SAY ON 6215, THANK YOU FOR, HEARING THAT AT A LATER DATE.

SANDY DID A PERFECT JOB ON THAT POLICY.

I JUST WANTED MY BOARD MEMO TO REFLECT REALLY THE CHANGES ON IT.

SO, SANDY, I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW THE CORRECTIONS ON MY END.

AND I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT SHE DID A PERFECT JOB ON IT.

SO THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, THAT BRINGS US TO FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS, AND BOARD EVENTS.

[11. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

LOOKS LIKE, DAY ON THE HILL IS COMING UP THIS WEEKEND.

WE HAVE A CAC MEETING THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH AND THEN BOARD TOURS COMING UP ON THE NINTH.

WE ALSO WERE TOLD ABOUT THE LEVY MEETING THIS THURSDAY AND THEN VIRTUALLY ON MONDAY.

ANYTHING I'M FORGETTING? I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT THE CAC MEETING IN FEBRUARY WILL BE A TEACHER PANEL.

LAST YEAR WE DID A STUDENT PANEL AND THIS YEAR WE'RE DOING A TEACHER PANEL.

SO THE CAC HAS ASKED THAT WE HAVE A SELECTION OF TEACHERS FROM ALL THE LEVELS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT AND FROM DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, AND THEY'RE GOING TO SPEAK TO THE CAC MEMBERSHIP.

SHOULD BE VERY INTERESTING.

SHOULD BE VERY GOOD. YEAH.

ALL RIGHT. ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE WE ADJOURN? MEETING ADJOURNED AT 7:33.
