HELLO, I'M LEAH JOHNSON, DAYBREAK MIDDLE SCHOOL'S ASB VICE PRESIDENT.

THE BIGGEST CHANGE AT DBM THIS YEAR HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTING OUR DRAGON STORE.

STUDENTS CAN EARN DRAGON DOLLARS FOR SHOWING OUR ARMOR, WHICH IS ALWAYS SAFE, RESPONSIBLE, MAKING GOOD CHOICES ON TASK AND RESPECTFUL TO ALL.

BASICALLY, WE EARN THEM FOR FOLLOWING EXPECTATIONS AND DOING OUR BEST AT SCHOOL.

STUDENTS CAN SPEND THEIR DRAGON DOLLARS AT OUR DRAGON STORE ON THE LAST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH FOR THINGS LIKE CANDY, CHIPS, FIDGETS, AND LITTLE TRINKETS.

STUDENTS CAN ALSO PUT THEIR DRAGON DOLLARS IN FOR A DRAWING FOR LARGER ITEMS LIKE A SWEATSHIRT OR A PILLOW, OR EVEN A VOLLEYBALL.

WE HAVE STAFF AND PARENTS WHO SET UP THE STORE INSIDE THE GYM DOORS DURING RECESS ONCE A MONTH.

YES, WE JUST COMPLETED A FOOD DRIVE FOR THE NORTH COUNTY FOOD BANK.

WE HAD.

WE HAVE COMPETITION.

THERE WERE BONUS POINTS EACH FOR EACH ITEM EACH DAY THAT EARNED EXTRA POINTS.

GRADE. GRADE LEVELS WITH THE HIGHEST POINTS GOT KONA ICE, A VISIT FROM THE KONA ICE TRUCK AND TREATS IN THE NOVEMBER. IN NOVEMBER, OUR ASB ORGANIZED A VETERANS DAY ASSEMBLY.

WE HAD A.

COLOR GUARD OUR DBM BAND PLAYED.

WE HONORED FAMILY.

WE HONORED FAMILY AND.

COMMUNITY MEMBERS. WE READ POEMS THE STUDENTS TALKED ABOUT.

ARMISTICE DAY, AND STUDENTS PLAYED, AND SOME STUDENTS PLAYED THE TAPS TO REMEMBER THE FALLEN VETERANS.

OUR NEXT EVENT WILL BE A WINTER DANCE, WHICH WE ARE PLANNING FOR RIGHT NOW.

WE MIGHT PLAN SOME FUNDRAISERS AND SOCIAL EVENTS IN THE SPRING, TOO.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS HAVE BEEN FUN, AND WE HAVE A LOT OF STUDENTS WHO COME TO PARTICIPATE AND SUPPORT OUR TEAMS. RIGHT NOW, WE'RE IN VOLLEYBALL AND BOYS' SOCCER SEASONS.

WE HAVE ENOUGH GIRLS FOR FOUR VOLLEYBALL TEAMS. WE HAVE AN EIGHTH-GRADE VARSITY TEAM, EIGHTH AND SEVENTH GRADE TEAM COMBINED, SIXTH AND SEVENTH COMBINED TEAM, AND THE SIXTH-GRADE TEAM.

SO FAR, OUR VARSITY TEAM IS UNDEFEATED.

WE HAVE ONE BOYS' SOCCER TEAM WHO ARE DOING GREAT TOO.

WE ALSO HAVE SEVERAL AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS WHO AREN'T INTERESTED IN SPORTS.

WE HAVE MAGIC, CHESS, BOOK STUDY, JAZZ, BAND, ROBOTICS, AND HOMEWORK HELP THAT MEET AFTER SCHOOL.

OUR ROBOTICS TEAM IS CURRENTLY RANKED FOURTH OUT OF 17 TEAMS. OUR EIGHTH-GRADE BAND MEMBERS PLAYED AT THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME WITH THE PEP BAND.

WE HAVE TWO BAND MEMBERS THAT HAVE MADE THE CLARK COUNTY HONORS BAND.

THE OTHER NEW THING IS THAT DBM HAS IMPLEMENTED THIS YEAR IS A STUDENT OF THE MONTH, WHICH WITH OUR NEW CHARACTER STRONG CURRICULUM, WE HAVE A CHARACTER TRAIT OF THE MONTH THAT WE FOCUS ON.

AT THE END OF THE MONTH, STAFF CAN NOMINATE STUDENTS TO BE RECOGNIZED FOR THE FOR THE CHARACTER TRAIT BY GRADE LEVEL.

WE'VE HAD STUDENT OF THE MONTH RECOGNIZED FOR RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY AND GRATITUDE ARE DECEMBER.

FOCUS WILL BE EMPATHY.

THE LATINX CLUB HOSTED THE FIRST EVER HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH ASSEMBLY FOR BATTLE GROUND, WHICH WAS SO INTERESTING AND SO COOL.

I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY COOL.

YOU KNOW, OF COURSE, LIKE OUR SCHOOL'S CULTURE, THERE WAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS, BUT I THINK FOR THE MAJORITY, EVERYONE LOVED IT.

THE ASB EXECUTIVES GOT TO GO TO A STUDENT LEADERSHIP EVENT AT WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 4TH.

MYSELF AND OTHERS HAD SO MUCH FUN, AND IT WAS REALLY COOL SEEING THE DIVERSITY OF OTHER SCHOOLS.

ONE REALLY COOL THING THEY DID WAS BREAKOUT ROOMS. THERE WAS A WHOLE BUNCH OF DIFFERENT BREAKOUT ROOMS THAT WE GOT TO CHOOSE FROM, SO WE COULD LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR SPECIFIC INTERESTS AND ROLES IN THE SCHOOL.

WE LEARNED A LOT, SO IT'S HARD TO PICK JUST ONE THING TO MENTION, BUT I THINK THE MOST VALUABLE THING WE TOOK FROM THIS WAS KNOWING HOW AND WHEN TO REBRAND FOR ACTIVITIES LIKE SPIRIT WEEKS AND DANCES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

ON NOVEMBER 16TH, THE UTC AP CLASSES HAD THE AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO THE INVOLVED CONFERENCE.

WE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT HOW WE CAN IMPROVE EVENTS AND MORE SPECIFICALLY, THE PARTICIPATION OF THE EVENTS BY MAKING THEM MORE INCLUSIVE AND GIVING MORE OPTIONS FOR PARTICIPATION.

MICHAEL, THE LEADER OF THE WHOLE EVENT, CALLED IT LAYERS.

ONE EXAMPLE OF HOW WE ALREADY INCORPORATE LAYERS IS FOR OUR SPIRIT DAYS.

IF THE SPIRIT DAY IS LIKE DISNEY OUT, WE PROVE OUT.

WE PEOPLE COULD WEAR LIKE GREEN INSTEAD.

SO, IT JUST LIKE GIVES MORE OPTIONS.

ALL OF US HAD SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE AND WE'RE SO THANKFUL WE GOT TO BE A PART OF IT.

AND WE HOPE TO GO AGAIN NEXT YEAR FOR WINTER FORMAL.

I STARTED WORKING IN OUR COMMITTEES.

THE DANCE IS BEING HELD IN LA ON JANUARY 13TH AND THE THEME IS NORTHERN LIGHTS.

WE'VE DONE A FEW SPIRIT DAYS; WE HAVE DONE A FOOD DRIVE, AND WE ARE RIGHT NOW PLANNING OUR WINTER FORMAL.

SO THAT'S GOING TO BE DECEMBER 8TH AT THE BATTLE GROUND COMMUNITY CENTER.

I THINK THEIR OPENING SHOW MUST BE AT 345.

IT MIGHT BE AT FOUR, AND THEN THEY HAVE A SHOW AT SEVEN AS WELL.

AND THEN FOR RIVER HOMELINK WE HAD OUR FIRST FOOD DRIVE OF THE YEAR.

WE RAISED LIKE A LOT OF WE GOT A LOT OF FOOD DONATED THAT.

I CAN'T REMEMBER RIGHT NOW, BUT IT WAS EQUIVALENT TO LIKE 769 MEALS OR SOMETHING.

SO, SUPER-DUPER COOL.

AND WE ALSO HAD OUR FIRST DANCE OF THE YEAR, OUR FALL DANCE.

I COULDN'T ATTEND BECAUSE I WAS AT THE WAZA CONFERENCE, BUT IT WAS IT WAS A HUGE HIT.

IT WAS BARBIE THEMED AND SO EVERYBODY LOVED IT.

BUT YEAH, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

YEAH, I THINK WE KIND OF COVERED IT ALL FOR BATTLE GROUND.

THERE HASN'T BEEN A LOT OF SCHOOL RECENTLY, SO THAT'S BEEN GOOD.

IT'S EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.

IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT WITH IT.

AND WHENEVER A DISTRICT LOSES GOOD BOARD MEMBERS, IT'S ALWAYS A STEP BACKWARDS FOR US.

AND THAT'S NOT TO SAY THAT THE INCOMING WON'T HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVE THEMSELVES AND BECOME GREAT AS WELL, BUT IT'S ALWAYS DIFFICULT WHEN YOU'RE STARTING A NEW WHEN YOU'RE STARTING FRESH.

AND THAT'S THE WAY I FEEL ABOUT OUR SITUATION.

I FEEL LIKE WE ARE LOSING TWO INCREDIBLY SMART, PASSIONATE INDIVIDUALS WHO CARE DEEPLY ABOUT BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND WHO HAVE BEEN A GREAT ASSISTANT TO ME AND TO SHELLY IN RUNNING THE DISTRICT, I FIRST LIKE TO RECOGNIZE ANDREW.

ANDREW CAME TO US IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR AND HAS SERVED EIGHT MONTHS.

HE'S BEEN WITH US THROUGH A LOT OF INTERESTING TIMES.

HE WAS A VOICE OF REASON AND A VOICE OF HELP ME THROUGH THE PROCESS THAT WE HAD THROUGH NEGOTIATIONS THIS YEAR, AND I AM INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL FOR THAT.

WE KNOW THAT ANDREW LOVES, LOVES BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

HE HAS SEVERAL OF HIS OWN KIDS ARE ENROLLED AT TUKES VALLEY AND BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

AND WE'RE SAD TO SEE ANDREW LEAVING US AND HE WILL GREATLY BE MISSED.

AND SO, I'D LIKE TO READ THE PLAQUE THAT WE HAVE HERE.

THE TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT FOR OUR SCIENCE TEACHERS WHO I WAS SUPERVISING WAS MARK WATRIN.

AND THROUGH THAT TIME AND THEN AS I MOVED UP TO DISTRICT OFFICE AND MARK CONTINUED HIS ROLE AS TOSA, AND THEN HE LEFT US FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS AND WENT AND DID SOME OTHER THINGS, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO CONVINCE HIM TO COME BACK.

AND AND THEN MARK AND I WORKED VERY CLOSELY WHEN I WAS THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT.

AND THEN TOWARDS THE END OF MY TENURE AS DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT, MARK BECAME A BOARD MEMBER AND HAS SERVED THE BOARD FOR FIVE YEARS, FIVE YEARS.

MARK HAS DONE JUST ABOUT FULFILLED EVERY ROLE THAT YOU CAN POSSIBLY FILL ON A BOARD.

HE SERVED AS OUR LEGISLATIVE REP.

HE SERVED ON THE AUDIT COMMITTEE.

HE SERVED FOR THE BGF.

HE SERVED ON THE STATE TRUST LANDS.

HE'S BEEN HE'S BEEN VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD.

HE WAS SERVED TWO TERMS AS BOARD PRESIDENT.

HE WAS A REMARKABLE LEADER, A STEADY LEADER, SOMEONE WHO NO DOUBT CARES DEEPLY.

THIS THIS DISTRICT RUNS THROUGH HIS BLOOD, AND HE IS IN MANY WAYS EPITOMIZES WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT THIS DISTRICT, BECAUSE IT'S PEOPLE LIKE MARK, AND HE'S BEEN A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION.

AND ONE OF WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER TO BE A TRUE MENTOR FOR ME, A GREAT FRIEND.

AND I JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE MISSED SIGNIFICANTLY.

YEAH, IT WAS REALLY NICE TO GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH A LOT OF STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES FROM ACROSS THE STATE, AND WE HAD KIND OF A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE DINNER WHERE WE ALL KIND OF GOT TOGETHER, AND WE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT THE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE NETWORK, WHICH IS JUST A BIG NETWORK OF THOSE STUDENTS AROUND THE STATE.

AND UNFORTUNATELY, THEIR MEETINGS USUALLY FALL ON THE MEETINGS THAT WE HAVE HERE FOR THE BOARD.

SO, WE WERE KIND OF TALKING TO THEM AND THE LEADERS OF THAT TO KIND OF DECIDE HOW WE WOULD START TO GO ABOUT THAT.

MAYBE THERE'S GOING TO BE LIKE RECORDINGS THAT WE CAN KIND OF WATCH, OR IF THEY MIGHT CHANGE THE DATES EVERY WEEK OR EVERY MONTH OR WAITING FOR KIND OF AN UPDATE ON THAT.

BUT YEAH, IT WAS REALLY NICE.

IT'S REALLY LIKE IT CAN BE REALLY DIFFICULT TO FIND OTHER STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES AS A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE, BECAUSE THEY'RE LIKE LESS THAN HALF OF ALL DISTRICTS ARE ACTUALLY LIKE THEY ACTUALLY HAVE STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES.

AND ALSO, WE'RE KIND OF IN THIS LIKE CORNER OF WASHINGTON AND EVERYBODY ELSE IS LIKE OUT THERE.

AND SO, IT WAS REALLY, REALLY NICE TO LIKE MEET.

THERE WERE 115 REPRESENTATIVES THERE, WHICH IS LIKE 30 MORE THAN LAST YEAR.

THE SECOND WAS MSOCS AND HOW THEY'RE NOT KEEPING UP WITH INFLATION.

MSOC STANDS FOR MATERIAL SUPPLIES OPERATING.

YEAH. OPERATING COSTS.

AND HOW IF YOU LOOK AT EVERYTHING, IT'S GOING UP LIKE 38, 35, 38% AND MSOCS HAVE GONE UP OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, 9%. SO JUST OUR BUYING POWER AND HOW FAR BEHIND THE OTHER ISSUE WAS SPECIAL ED FUNDING.
