[1. Call to Order]

[00:00:03]

GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO A VERY EARLY BOARD MEETING AS WE HAVE A GRADUATION LATER THIS EVENING TO ATTEND.

SO WE WILL GET STARTED WITH OUR PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE.

READY. BEGIN.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

ALL RIGHT. AND NEXT, WE'LL HAVE OUR ROLL CALL.

PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT FIVE JACKIE MADDUX HERE.

VICE PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT FOUR, MARK WATRIN, HERE.

DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT ONE MARY SNITILY HERE.

DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT TWO ANDREW LAWHON HERE.

DIRECTOR OF DISTRICT THREE TED CHAMPINE.

HE DOES HAVE A PREARRANGED ABSENCE.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE RICARDO MARTIN DEL CAMPO HERE.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE SORA TOLLEY, HERE.

MADAM PRESIDENT, WE HAVE A QUORUM.

THANK YOU. NEXT WE HAVE OUR AGENDA APPROVAL.

[4. Agenda Approval (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON TONIGHT'S AGENDA, WE HAVE SOME RECOGNITIONS, OUR COMMUNICATIONS FROM OUR STUDENTS AND THE BOARD AS WELL AS OUR SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

WE DO HAVE TIME FOR CITIZENS COMMENTS TONIGHT, ALTHOUGH IT MAY BE LIMITED DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF SPEAKERS THAT WE HAVE, WE MAY HAVE TO ADJUST ONCE WE SEE THAT.

AND AGAIN, THAT'S JUST FOR THOSE JUST COMING IN.

THAT'S DUE TO THE GRADUATION THAT WE HAVE LATER THIS EVENING THAT WE ARE ATTENDING.

AFTER THAT, WE HAVE OUR CONSENT AGENDA WITH ITEMS A THROUGH J, NO OLD BUSINESS, TWO ITEMS OF NEW BUSINESS.

AND THEN IF THERE'S TIME DISCUSSION OF FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS AND BOARD EVENTS, IS THERE ANYTHING THE BOARD WOULD LIKE TO ADD OR REMOVE FROM TONIGHT'S AGENDA? I MOVE THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

STUDENTS DO YOU HAVE AN ADVISORY VOTE FOR THE BOARD? APPROVE. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. WELL, WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR.

WE HAVE OUR ADVISORY VOTES FROM OUR STUDENTS.

ANY FURTHER COMMENTS? CONCERNS? HEARING NONE.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES, 4 TO 0.

[5. Recognitions]

AND THEN WE WILL MOVE RIGHT ON TO RECOGNITION.

WE HAVE THE GREEN APPLE OF THE YEAR AWARD WITH DENNY.

YES. THANK YOU.

VERY EXCITED TODAY BECAUSE WE HAVE A SPECIAL RECOGNITION.

LISA IS NOT GOING TO GIVE IT AWAY YET BY SHOWING THE VIDEO, BUT I'M GOING TO ASK THAT WE I'M GOING TO ASK OUR SPECIAL GUEST, SAMMY SPRINGS [INAUDIBLE] FROM CLARK COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH, THE CLARK COUNTY GREEN SCHOOLS, TO COME UP TO THE PODIUM AND JOIN US.

SAMMY, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY.

AND WE'RE JUST GOING TO LET SAMMY EXPLAIN EXACTLY ALL ABOUT THIS SPECIAL RECOGNITION OF A SPECIAL PERSON.

GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

YEAH. SO MY NAME IS SAMMY.

I LEAD THE CLARK COUNTY GREEN SCHOOLS PROGRAM.

WE'RE A PROGRAM WITHIN CLARK COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH THAT SUPPORTS STUDENTS IN ACCOMPLISHING SUSTAINABILITY GOALS.

EACH YEAR, WE HONOR INDIVIDUALS AND GREEN TEAMS AROUND THE COUNTY WITH OUR GREEN AWARDS PROGRAM.

AND THESE PEOPLE ARE JUST SUPER DEDICATED TO ASSISTING STUDENTS, PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVISM AND SUSTAINABILITY PROJECTS ON CAMPUS.

AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HONOR MARK AS OUR GREEN APPLE OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNER.

OUR GREEN APPLE AWARD GOES TO AN EDUCATOR WHO IS REALLY ACTIVE IN THE SCHOOLS.

MARK IS RETIRED NOW, BUT HE'S STILL DOING SO MANY THINGS AROUND BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT AND VANCOUVER.

AND, YOU KNOW, A FEW THINGS THAT I JUST WANT TO LIST OFF THAT HE'S BEEN UP TO FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS, AT LEAST AS LONG AS I'VE KNOWN HIM.

HE VOLUNTEERS IN HIS FREE TIME TO BUILD OUTDOOR LEARNING SPACES, CONSTRUCT SCHOOL GARDENS, AND LEAD HABITAT RESTORATION PROJECTS.

YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THOSE PROJECTS AT LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND MINNEHAHA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

AND I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH MARK ON THE LOWER COLUMBIA NATURE NETWORK GREEN SCHOOLYARDS SUBCOMMITTEE, AND IT'S JUST SUPER CLEAR TO SEE HOW DEDICATED AND COMMITTED MARK IS TO THE STUDENTS.

AND THEY ARE ALWAYS SO EXCITED.

LIKE MARK'S COMING TO VOLUNTEER AT MY SCHOOL GARDEN.

[00:05:02]

AND YOU KNOW, I JUST HEAR FROM ALL THESE STUDENTS THAT THEY JUST LOVE YOU SO MUCH MARK.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE WORK YOU'VE DONE.

WE HAVE THIS AMAZING AWARD THAT WAS CREATED BY WASHOUGAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OUT OF, I THINK, 100% RECLAIMED WOOD.

SO WE WE COMMISSIONED WASHOUGAL CTE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THEIR WOODWORKING AND METAL ARTS CLASSES TO MAKE OUR AWARDS THIS YEAR.

USUALLY WE CONTRACT WITH A WITH AN ARTIST, BUT A REALLY COOL PROGRAM.

WE'RE HOPING TO KIND OF SPREAD THAT AROUND TO OTHER DISTRICTS TO GIVE THEM THE OPPORTUNITY AS WELL.

SO I WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO STUDENTS GAGE LEAVITT AND MAX SCHILKE FROM WASHOUGAL FOR THIS BEAUTIFUL AWARD FOR MARK.

SO THANK YOU, MARK [APPLAUSE].

AND WE ALSO HAVE A GREAT VIDEO JUST KIND OF HIGHLIGHTING SOME OF THE WORK THAT MARK HAS DONE, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR.

BUT, YOU KNOW, LOTS OF OTHER STUFF.

[VIDEO] PROGRAMS DECIDED TO HONOR MARK WATRIN WITH THE GREEN APPLE OF THE YEAR AWARD.

MARK HELPED DEVELOP THE CENTER FOR AGRICULTURE, SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, A HALF DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM FOCUSED ON ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE FOR BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR OVER 40 YEARS MARK HAS BEEN ACTIVELY SUPPORTING LOCAL SCHOOLS AND CREATING GREEN SCHOOLYARD FEATURES FOR HANDS ON PROJECT BASED LEARNING.

HELLO, MY NAME IS EMMA.

I AM A SENIOR AT CASEE.

MARK'S INFLUENCE. HE HAS INFLUENCED ME.

I MEAN, EVEN SINCE EIGHTH GRADE, THE LONGER I WAS HERE AND THE LONGER I TALKED TO HIM, THE MORE I REALIZED THAT THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

OH, I AM MARK WATRIN.

I'M A FORMER ACE TEACHER, NOW AN ADVISORY MEMBER FOR THE PROGRAM.

CASEE IS A 80 ACRE LAND LAB IN THE MIDDLE OF CLARK COUNTY AND BRUSH PRAIRIE AND ALL THE STUDENTS THAT COME HERE GET AN OUTSTANDING INTEGRATED EDUCATION THAT INCLUDES ENVIRONMENTAL AND GREEN THEMES.

THAT WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL DESIGN OF THE PROGRAM.

PROJECTS HERE AT CASEE.

OVER 30 YEARS WE'VE DONE COUNTLESS NUMBER OF PROJECTS.

THE COMMUNITY ARBORETUM THAT'S OUT HERE AT CASEE WAS A LONG TERM DREAM OF THE HORTICULTURE PROGRAM.

WE GOT IT HERE AND IT'S NOW GETTING REALLY ROBUST.

BOY, ON A SUNNY DAY OUT HERE, YOU SEE PEOPLE ALL OVER THAT WITH THEIR KIDS, THEIR DOGS AND ENJOYING THAT FEATURE AND LEARNING WHILE THEY'RE HERE, WHICH IS PART OF WHAT THE CASEE PROGRAM IS. WE STARTED WITH ELEMENTARY FIELD TRIPS HERE IN THE EARLY 1990S, AND THAT'S I STILL COME OUT TO CASEE TO VOLUNTEER TO MAKE SURE THAT THE ELEMENTARY KIDS GET A CHANCE TO GO AROUND. AND MOST OF THEM REALLY REMEMBER THEIR TIMES, THAT THEY COME OUT TO CASEE AND GET TO DO OUTDOOR EDUCATION.

SO WE'RE HERE AT THE CASEE BIG GREENHOUSE, WHICH IS FULL OF NATIVE PLANTS THAT HAVE BEEN PROPAGATED BY THE STUDENTS HERE AT CASEE.

STUDENTS PROPAGATE NATIVE PLANTS FROM CUTTINGS ON THE SITE, FROM OTHER NATIVE PLANTS.

THEY GROW THOSE UP AND THEN THOSE ARE USED TO TAKE THE LOCAL STREAM SIDES.

IT'S JUST VERY GRATIFYING.

KIDS ALWAYS GIVE GREAT FEEDBACK ABOUT THE FACT THAT THEY GET TO BE INCLUDED IN DOING SOMETHING TO REPAIR SOME DAMAGE TO THE ENVIRONMENT.

SO THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HIGHLIGHT OF KIDS SAYING, I WANT TO DO SOMETHING TO MAKE MY ENVIRONMENT BETTER.

AND THIS WAS A HANDS ON EASY WAY TO MAKE THAT GO AND IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF OUR MORE POPULAR PROJECTS.

WINNING THIS AWARD IS REALLY HUMBLING.

I REALLY THANK THE PEOPLE WHO NOMINATED AND YOU KNOW, IT'S GREAT.

I'M GLAD THAT SOMEBODY DECIDED TO COME UP AND SAY THIS KIND OF ACTIVITY IN OUR COMMUNITY IS VALUABLE AND IT'S WORTH CREATING AN AWARD FOR.

CLARK COUNTY GREEN SCHOOLS PROVIDES WASTE REDUCTION, EDUCATION AND MATERIALS TO ALL PUBLIC AND PRIVATE K-12 SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT CLARK COUNTY.

WE ARE EAGER TO HELP YOUR SCHOOL ACCOMPLISH ITS SUSTAINABILITY GOALS.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS, PLEASE VISIT WWW.

CLARKGREENSCHOOLS.ORG OR EMAIL INFO@CLARKGREENSCHOOLS.ORG.

ALL RIGHT. THANKS, MARK [APPLAUSE].

WELL DESERVED. YEAH.

AND OF COURSE, THE VIDEO MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU'RE DOING IT ALL ON YOUR OWN, RIGHT? AND THAT'S JUST NOT THE CASE.

SO SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE TTOS THAT HAVE CHIPPED IN TO HELP MAKE THE SMALL DONATIONS AND WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET GOING.

TEACHERS LIKE WENDY HAUSER AND JUDSON GOODWIN AND JAN SOLBERG, WHO HAVE BEEN CHAMPIONS IN THEIR SCHOOL AND THE ADMINISTRATORS THAT SUPPORT THEM.

IT'S AN EXTRA THING TO HAVE ON CAMPUS, AND IT'S NICE TO HAVE THAT THERE.

SO ANYWAY, THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO BOUGHT INTO THE IDEA AND CHIPPED IN ALONG WITH.

[00:10:01]

CONGRATS AGAIN. THANK YOU.

I JUST I WROTE IT DOWN AND THEN I FORGOT TO MENTION I WANTED TO APOLOGIZE FOR, YOU KNOW, IT FEELS LIKE 100 DEGREES IN HERE.

SO THE AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT CURRENTLY WORKING.

SO APOLOGIES FOR THAT.

IT IS WARM. SO MAKE FANS OUT OF PAPER, IF YOU CAN.

WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE ON TO MICHELLE REINHARDT AND THE INTRODUCTION OF OUR NEW ADMINISTRATORS.

ALL RIGHT, WELL, GOOD AFTERNOON, BOARD.

THIS IS AN EXCITING PART OF MY ROLE.

WE ALL KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE GOOD, STRONG LEADERS IN OUR SCHOOLS.

AND I'M EXCITED THIS AFTERNOON TO BE ABLE TO SHARE SOME OF OUR MOST RECENT HIRES IN THE AREA OF ADMINISTRATION IN OUR BUILDINGS, AS WELL AS AT DISTRICT OFFICE.

SOME OF THE NAMES YOU WILL RECOGNIZE, THESE ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN IN OUR DISTRICT AND OTHER NAMES ARE NEW TO OUR DISTRICT.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I AM GOING TO CALL UP OUR ADMINISTRATORS WHO ARE NEW TO NEW POSITIONS THIS YEAR, AND I'M GOING TO CALL THEM ON UP TO THE FRONT HERE AND I WILL DO SOME QUICK INTRODUCTIONS.

UM, SO IF WE CAN MOVE TO THE SLIDE.

THANK YOU. IF I COULD HAVE AUSTIN BROTHERS COME ON UP.

KELLIE CLAY, LESLI COLLUM.

JENNIFER GOODWIN.

SELENA MAKITA, JAMAL MCKENZIE, MATT STANFILL, KIRSTEN TALBOTT, APRIL VONDERHAAR AND ALEX BENNETT.

IF YOU GUYS JUST WANT TO COME RIGHT ALONG HERE IN THE FRONT.

OH, THANK YOU.

WE DO HAVE SOME ADMINISTRATORS WHO ARE DOING INTERVIEWS AND DOING BUILDING PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES SO THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO TO BE HERE RIGHT NOW. I AM GOING TO START OFF WITH KIRSTEN TALBOTT.

SO I WAS HERE ABOUT A YEAR AGO, THIS TIME INTRODUCING HER TO TO ALL OF YOU.

SHE WAS THE DEAN THIS LAST YEAR AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

SHE IS NOW MOVING INTO THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR ROLE AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED THAT SHE IS GOING TO BE JOINING US THERE.

NEXT TO HER IS JAMAL, JAMAL MCKENZIE.

JAMAL IS FROM EVERGREEN SCHOOL DISTRICT UNION HIGH SCHOOL, AND MOST RECENTLY IS HAS BEEN THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR THERE, AND HE WILL BE THE DEAN OF STUDENTS AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

SO REPLACING KIRSTEN.

SO WELCOME, JAMAL.

AND THEN NEXT TO JAMAL IS LESLI COLLUM.

LESLI NEAR AND DEAR TO ME.

I HIRED LESLI MANY YEARS AGO, WAY BACK AT MAPLE GROVE AS A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER.

YOU'VE SEEN LESLI AS A TEACHER, A TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT.

MOST RECENTLY, SHE HAS BEEN THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT DAYBREAK MIDDLE.

SHE IS NOW MOVING INTO THE PRINCIPAL ROLE AT DAYBREAK MIDDLE.

AND THEN NEXT TO LESLIE IS JENNIFER GOODWIN.

JENNIFER COMES FROM EVERGREEN AS WELL.

MOST RECENTLY, JENNIFER HAS BEEN THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT ONE OF THE PRIMARY SCHOOLS THERE.

SHE IS GOING TO BE REPLACING KELLIE CLAY.

SHE'S GOING TO BE THE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES, WORKING ALONG WITH KELLIE CLAY AND KELLIE IS GOING TO BE THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL SERVICES, REPLACING ELLEN WIESSNER, WHO IS RESIGNING AT THE END OF THIS MONTH.

SO SO THESE ARE THE OUR WONDERFUL NEW ADDITIONS, NEW PROMOTIONS TO OUR DISTRICT.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED.

WE CAN GIVE THEM A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].

KIRSTEN AND LESLI AND THANK YOU, KELLIE CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PROMOTIONS.

AND JENNIFER AND JAMAL, THANK YOU FOR JOINING US IN THE DISTRICT.

WE'RE HONORED TO HAVE YOU AS PART OF OUR TEAM.

SO LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR AND EVERYTHING GREAT YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO ACCOMPLISH.

THANK YOU GUYS VERY MUCH.

WE HAVE ONE MORE.

ONE MORE SLIDE. ALL RIGHT.

ONE MORE SLIDE. SO IT IS ALWAYS AN HONOR TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY EDUCATORS WHO HAVE DEDICATED MANY YEARS TO OUR DISTRICT.

ON HERE ARE JUST A FEW OF OUR CERTIFIED AND CLASSIFIED RETIREES.

AND I'D LIKE FOR US TO JUST KIND OF TAKE NOTE HERE.

I'M GOING TO TURN AROUND HERE.

WE HAVE ROBIN HARPER WITH 20 YEARS IN THE DISTRICT.

JENNIFER LINDBO 25 YEARS.

30 YEARS GUY BROWN, DEAN RINTALA, KURT SITTON.

AND THEN MORE THAN 30 YEARS THIS IS IMPRESSIVE.

STEVE RHODES.

KRISTINE GLOCK. NANCY KIMBELL, NANCY BARNEY, SHERYL PIPER, JEAN POTTER-OPENSHAW.

ELIZABETH SWANSON AND KIM HAMILTON.

[00:15:03]

SO LET'S GIVE THEM A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].

THAT'S A THAT'S A POWERFUL GROUP OF OF EDUCATORS THAT WE'RE LOSING.

SO THEY WILL BE MISSED.

JUST A SHOW OF HANDS OF HOW MANY OF YOU HAVE WORKED ALONGSIDE ANY OF THESE INDIVIDUALS IN SOME CAPACITY.

SO, YEAH, AMAZING, AMAZING WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE THERE.

OUR NEXT SLIDE HERE IS OUR CLASSIFIED RETIREES, LINDA POTTER, DENISE VONK, LAURA WALSH, DENISE FARNHAM, LYNN DAVEY, TRUDY SASSEEN -STOREY AND BARB WATTS.

SO ANOTHER GREAT GROUP OF EDUCATORS HERE WHO HAVE IF YOU LOOK AT THOSE YEARS OF SERVICE, THEY HAVE MADE A TREMENDOUS IMPACT IN THE LIVES OF STUDENTS. SO ANOTHER BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MICHELLE.

THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THAT LIST TOGETHER.

THAT'S VERY COOL. ONE MORE RECOGNITION.

ONE MORE RECOGNITION.

SO MANY OF YOU WHO WERE HERE AT OUR LAST BOARD MEETING, WE PRESENTED THE WASA WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS STUDENT LEADERSHIP AWARD TO RICARDO MARTIN DEL CAMPO.

AND AT THE TIME WHEN THEY OPENED UP THE AWARD, IT HAD A BIG SCRATCH ON IT.

SO WE RETURNED IT AND AS PROMISED, THEY SENT US A NEW ONE.

SO I'D LIKE TO HAVE SHELLY AWARD THAT ONE TO RICARDO.

CONGRATULATIONS [APPLAUSE]. AND THEN ALTHOUGH THIS IS NOT RICARDO'S LAST MEETING, HE SERVED ON THE SCHOOL BOARD AS A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE.

NOW, THIS IS THE END OF HIS SECOND YEAR, AND RICARDO GRADUATED ON THURSDAY.

SO THAT'S ANOTHER CONGRATULATIONS [APPLAUSE].

BUT WE WEREN'T SURE IF RICARDO WAS GOING TO BE HERE FOR OUR LAST MEETING.

I KNOW HE'S GOT A TRIP PLANNED IN THE SUMMER WITH HIS MOM, AND SO THERE'S THE POSSIBILITY THAT HE WON'T BE HERE.

SO RATHER THAN RISK IT AND OR PUT ANY PRESSURE ON RICARDO TO HAVE TO BE HERE, WE THOUGHT WE WOULD PRESENT THIS.

AND RICARDO, THIS IS JUST A TOKEN OF OUR APPRECIATION.

IT SAYS, PRESENTED TO RICARDO MARTIN DEL CAMPO, STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE FOR BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF DIRECTORS, TERM 2021 TO 2023.

RICARDO, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND DEDICATION TO THE STUDENTS OF STAFF OF BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS WITH MUCH APPRECIATION.

SO HERE YOU GO [APPLAUSE].

YEAH. AND RICARDO HERE IS THIS WAS THIS ONE.

YOU CAN GET A NICE SO IT DOESN'T GET SCRATCHED AND GET SCRATCHED.

YEAH. THIS WAS THE FLYER FROM THE AWARD CEREMONY, SO I PICKED UP THREE.

AND YOU'RE RECOGNIZED IN THERE AS WELL, SO.

OKAY. OKAY.

NEXT ON THE AGENDA, WE HAVE STUDENT VOICE.

[6. Communications]

AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, WITH SCHOOL WRAPPING UP.

WE DON'T HAVE ANY SCHEDULED STUDENTS HERE, BUT IF THERE ARE ANY STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE AUDIENCE, YOU COULD COME UP TO SPEAK NOW.

ALL RIGHT. SEEING NONE, I WILL TURN IT OVER TO OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATIVES.

LOOKS LIKE IT'S MY TURN TO GO FIRST.

FIRST OF ALL, OUR JAZZ COMBO OVER AT PRAIRIE WOULD LIKE TO JUST THANK EVERYONE WHO ALLOWED US TO PERFORM AT THE TOURS THAT WE WERE HAVING AT ALL THE SCHOOLS.

IT WAS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY.

AND YEAH, ALSO WE JUST HAD OUR FINAL BAND CONCERT ON THE 6TH.

THAT WENT REALLY WELL. WE EVEN GOT A STANDING OVATION AT THE VERY END AND THAT JUST LIKE LITERALLY I SOBBED.

UM, OVER AT PVM, WE JUST FINISHED UP OUTDOOR SCHOOL.

WE WENT TO A NEW CAMP THIS YEAR, I BELIEVE IT'S CAMP WARWICK.

SORRY IF I BUTCHERED IT.

THAT'S RIGHT. BUT IT WAS AN AMAZING TIME SPENDING TIME WITH EVERY KID, JUST LIKE IT WAS AMAZING.

UM, SENIORS SENIOR AWARDS WENT REALLY WELL.

UM, PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL IS ALSO HAVING A FIELD DAY ON FRIDAY AND ALSO GRADUATION HAPPENED.

AND THANK YOU TO THE BOARD FOR SUPPORTING OUR CLASS OF 2023.

SO THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

YEAH. OVER AT BATTLE GROUND TOO AS YOU SAID, LIKE THINGS ARE REALLY WRAPPING UP, BUT WE HAD OUR TOLO DANCE WHICH IS LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, IT'S KIND OF LIKE A

[00:20:04]

GIRLS ASK GUYS LIKE FUN JUST SPRING DANCE TYPE THING.

AND WE HAD THAT ON JUNE 3RD AND IT WENT REALLY WELL.

THIS IS OUR FIRST YEAR THAT WE'VE HAD ALL FOUR DANCES IN A WHILE, SO THAT WAS LIKE A REALLY GOOD END TO THE YEAR TO JUST KNOW THAT WE DID ALL THE THINGS WE WANTED TO DO.

AND YEAH, GRADUATION HAPPENED.

EVERYONE'S TAKING THEIR FINALS RIGHT NOW.

IT'S KIND OF JUST ALL WRAPPING UP AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND SUMMER AND THE END OF THE YEAR.

SO YEAH. WHAT WAS THE THEME OF THE DANCE? THERE WAS SOMETHING FUNNY, WASN'T IT? OH, IT WAS GLOW LO. GLOW LO LIKE GLOW IN THE DARK, GLOW LO TOLO.

A LITTLE PLAY ON WORDS THERE.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU BOTH.

WE WILL MOVE ON TO COMMITTEE REPORTS, STARTING WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

NO REPORT.

THE AUDIT COMMITTEE.

YEAH, WE MET AND WENT OVER A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT THINGS.

THE USUAL BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT BUDGET, THINGS LIKE THAT.

I WANT TO SAY A SHOUT OUT TO MICHELLE SCOTT FOR HELPING US WHEN WE PICKED OUT A COUPLE OF THE ITEMS ON THE INVENTORIES TO REVIEW HELP GAVE US SOME BACKGROUND.

I KNOW WE SELECTED DAYBREAK YOUTH SERVICES BECAUSE WE HAD SOME QUESTIONS THERE AND CONTRACTOR.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR DETAILS ON THOSE.

YOU'RE WELCOME. ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD? YEAH. OKAY. BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

THANK YOU. THERE'S A MEETING ON THURSDAY AT NORTHWOOD, AND I WILL BE THERE.

SO I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENS [INAUDIBLE]. YEAH, THERE'S A [INAUDIBLE] FUNDRAISER FOR BGF AS WELL.

I HAVE TO CHECK ON THAT DATE BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE.

OKAY. ANYWAY.

WIAA WILL NOT HAVE A REPORT TONIGHT.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING ON WSSDA UPDATES? QUIET. PRETTY QUIET.

END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

TOURS, COMMITTEE TOURS ARE ALL WRAPPED UP FOR THE YEAR, BUT I'M NOT MISSING ANY.

RIGHT. LIKE I TRIED TO LAST TIME.

DIRECTOR REPORTS.

AND WE WE TOURED LAURIN AND PRAIRIE AND GLENWOOD AND IT'S JUST A, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING WAS FUN AND ENJOYABLE, BUT ALSO VERY INFORMATIVE.

I THINK JUST BEING ABLE TO SEE HOW THE STAFF AND THE STUDENTS WORK IN THAT.

I GUESS I'M ALWAYS SURPRISED WHEN I GO OVER THERE AND SEE THAT THE THE CONFIGURATION OF THAT SCHOOL IS THE SAME AS THIS SCHOOL.

AND WHEN I SEE WHAT IT TOOK TO GET CAM IN PLACE, IT'S JUST INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THEY USE THAT SPACE AND SEEM TO REALLY LIKE THOSE VERY LARGE CLASSROOMS. SO THAT WAS KIND OF FUN.

AND WE HAD A GREAT LUNCH AND WE HAD A REALLY GOOD ENTERTAINMENT BY THE JAZZ BAND AT PRAIRIE.

THAT WAS AWESOME DURING OUR LUNCHTIME, BUT A GOOD CHANCE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.

SO I ENJOYED THAT.

ALSO, I ATTENDED THE ASL SHOWCASE, WHICH WAS SOMETHING NEW FOR ME THAT WAS AT PRAIRIE AS WELL, AND FOUR HIGH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATED, THE TWO BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOLS. AND WHAT IT WAS WAS STUDENTS WHO WERE IN ASL, AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE, DOING SONGS AND SIGNING THEM.

SO PRETTY EXCITING BECAUSE THEY DON'T JUST STAND THERE AND SIGN THE SONGS.

THEY HAD ROUTINES CREATED TO SIGN THE SONGS.

AND I GUESS THIS USED TO BE CINDY ARNOLD WAS TELLING ME THAT THIS USED TO SELL OUT TICKETS TO THIS, USED TO SELL OUT LIKE IN 12 MINUTES.

SO THEY BROUGHT IT BACK.

IT HASN'T BEEN AROUND SINCE BEFORE COVID AND IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

IS THIS THE FIRST TIME THEY DID IT WITH COMBINING THE SCHOOLS? I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THAT.

YEAH. DID I HEAR A YES? I'M SORRY. YES. YES.

COOL. COOL.

ANYBODY ELSE HAVE REPORTS? GOOD. THANK YOU.

I ALSO ATTENDED THE PATRON TOUR AND I THOUGHT IT WAS EXTREMELY ENLIGHTENING.

I FEEL LIKE THAT SHOULD ALMOST BE LIKE AN ORIENTATION FOR DIRECTORS BECAUSE TO BE ABLE TO THERE'S SO MUCH INFORMATION THAT'S TRANSMITTED IN THOSE PRESENTATIONS BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY TOUR THE SCHOOLS.

AND THEN TO ACTUALLY I MEAN, BECAUSE YOU HEAR ABOUT THESE FACILITIES AND YOU LOOK AT THEM IN THE NUMBERS, BUT TO ACTUALLY BE THERE AND TO WALK THROUGH THE HALLWAYS IS A HUGE, HUGE

[00:25:08]

BENEFIT. SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS A VERY ENLIGHTENING.

I THOUGHT THE ENTERTAINMENT DURING LUNCH, THE JAZZ QUARTET WAS INCREDIBLE.

AND I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO TELL YOU EITHER BECAUSE YOU GUYS TOOK OFF SO QUICKLY.

BUT IT WAS REALLY GREAT.

THE FOOD WAS TERRIFIC.

THE CULINARY TEAM AT PRAIRIE DID THE FOOD AND IT WAS EXCELLENT AND JUST REALLY GREAT DISCUSSIONS.

THERE WAS AMPLE TIME DURING LUNCH TO HAVE TO DISCUSS WHAT WE WERE EXPERIENCING AND THOUGHTS.

AND SO TO HAVE THAT BUILT IN WAS VERY NICE.

SO I THOUGHT IT WAS AN EXTREMELY EDIFYING EXPERIENCE AND I'M GLAD I WENT GLAD I WAS INVITED.

SO THE I'M LOOKING NOW, THE [INAUDIBLE] FUNDRAISER FOR BGF IS SATURDAY.

THE 17TH FROM 1 P.M.

TO 10 P.M.

AND SO 20% OF THE PURCHASE WILL BE DONATED TO BGF.

SO IF EVER THERE WERE AN EXCUSE, THIS IS IT.

I THINK THAT'S IT FOR ME, OTHER THAN THE GRADUATIONS.

BUT WE WERE ALL THERE, SO GREAT.

YEAH, I'LL ADD. ALSO, I WENT TO THE [INAUDIBLE] TOUR AND THAT GLAD YOU MENTIONED THAT.

I AGREE WITH THE GOOD TIMES THAT WERE THERE.

IT ALSO BROUGHT UP THE IDEA OF ONE OF THE ITEMS WE PULLED OFF THE AUDIT PIECE WAS A REPAIR BILL FOR ONE OF THOSE OLDER BUILDINGS AND IT WAS A HEFTY ONE.

SO IT CAME BACK TO YOUR QUESTION, I THINK A WEEK AGO ABOUT HOW MUCH ARE WE PUTTING IN TO THE UPKEEP OF THOSE OLDER BUILDINGS AS WE GO ALONG, AS THE PERSON WHO WATERS THE GARDEN FROM THE OUTDOOR FAUCET WITH THE STRIP THREADS? I KNOW THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE OUTDOOR FAUCET THREADS, WHICH COULDN'T HAVE BEEN EASY TO DO, YOU KNOW, JUST THAT MANY YEARS OF USE.

SO AND THEN I HAD THE PRIVILEGE.

THANK YOU, GLENWOOD STAFF, FOR HOSTING THEIR PARENT NIGHT USING OUR FAMILY ENGINEERING PROGRAM WHERE TEACHERS GOT TO LEAD SCIENCE ACTIVITIES AND ENGINEERING ACTIVITIES WITH THE PARENTS AND THEIR KIDS.

I WILL JUST ADD THAT I WAS HONORED TO GO TO [INAUDIBLE] AND WATCH OUR ROTC CADETS FROM BOTH PRAIRIE AND BATTLE GROUND.

THEY JUST DID AN AMAZING JOB.

I'M A MILITARY MOM, SO IT CHOKES ME UP A LITTLE BIT KNOWING WHAT'S AHEAD OF THEM.

BUT AMAZING, AMAZING.

OUR PROGRAMS ARE JUST YOU JUST CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THEM.

AND I THINK I'LL END WITH THAT.

[7. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

AND TURN IT OVER TO YOU.

THANK YOU. YEAH, WE'RE GOING TO BE QUICK TONIGHT TO COGNIZANT OF OUR OF OUR GRADUATION COMING UP.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO MENTION A COUPLE OF THINGS.

I WAS GOING TO MENTION THE PASSING REVIEW OUTSTANDING EVERY YEAR IT'S A CELEBRATION OF THOSE CADETS THAT ARE GRADUATING FROM THE PROGRAM, BUT ALSO A CELEBRATION OF THE NEW CADETS WHO ARE ASSUMING LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.

AND SO THERE WAS A TRANSFER OF COMMAND THAT TOOK PLACE DURING THAT CEREMONY.

AND IT'S ALWAYS IF YOU EVER GET A CHANCE, IT'S ALWAYS A WONDERFUL CEREMONY.

IT ONLY LASTS ABOUT A HALF AN HOUR, BUT IT'S FANTASTIC.

I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO THE FOURTH GRADE CAREER FAIR THAT WAS HELD AT THE BATTLE GROUND AUDITORIUM, AND THAT WAS PUT ON BY OUR CTE PROGRAMS AND OUTSTANDING WE HAVE ALL OF THE CTE PROGRAMS IN OUR HIGH SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE, AND IT'S A VERY HANDS ON EXPERIENCE FOR THE KIDS.

THEY GET TO SEE WHAT WHAT ROTC DOES.

THEY GET TO SEE WHAT OUR WELDING CLASS DOES.

THEY GET SOME COMMUNITY GROUPS COME IN.

FOR INSTANCE, OUR BATTLE GROUND POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE FIRE CADETS WERE THERE.

IT'S JUST AN OUTSTANDING JASON FOSTER WAS THERE WITH HIS GREEN SCREEN.

AND KIDS GET TO PRETEND THAT THEY'RE DOING A NEWS BROADCAST.

SO IT'S ALWAYS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

AND ALL OF OUR FOURTH GRADERS FROM OUR PRIMARY SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN WHAT IT DOES IS IT SETS THEM UP FOR SOME OF THE MORE INTERESTING ELECTIVE CLASSES THAT THEY MIGHT BE INCLINED TO TAKE AS THEY MOVE TOWARDS MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL.

I ALSO WANTED TO MENTION THAT WE COMPLETED THE LAST TWO OF OUR PODCASTS FOR THE YEAR.

THE FIRST PODCAST WE DID WAS WITH ROTC, SO THE TIMING WAS GOOD.

WE HAD COLONEL WOODWARD AND THEN WE HAD RYANNE HARP, WHO'S A CAM STUDENT BUT ALSO WORKS WITH THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL ROTC PROGRAM.

AND RYANNE IS GOING TO ASSUME ONE OF THOSE LEADERSHIP POSITIONS.

SHE'S GOING TO BE THE NEW COMMANDER FOR NEXT YEAR'S THE BATTALION AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

AND SO HER AND COLONEL WOODWARD CAME AND TALKED ABOUT THE ROTC PROGRAM AND THE IMPACT THAT IT HAS.

[00:30:05]

AND WHAT I WAS ESPECIALLY WARMED MY HEART TO HEAR WAS BOTH OF THEM AND ESPECIALLY RYANNE, TALKED ABOUT THE COLLEGIALITY, THE CAMARADERIE SHIP, ALL OF THAT THAT GOES ON HOW CLOSE THE THE THE CADETS ARE IN THAT PROGRAM AND HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE IT MAKES IN THE LIVES OF THOSE STUDENTS.

SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT TO SEE.

AND JUST AS A SHOUT OUT TO RYANNE, RYANNE JUST COMPLETED, SHE WAS SHE WENT TO PURDUE UNIVERSITY AND COMPLETED HER PILOT'S LICENSE.

SO NOT ONLY WILL SHE BE ASSUMING COMMAND OF THE ROTC FORCE AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, BUT SHE ALSO EARNED HER PILOT'S PRIVATE PILOT'S LICENSE.

SO THAT'S PRETTY COOL.

AND EACH YEAR WE PROBABLY HAVE 6 TO 10.

THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT 6 TO 10 STUDENTS WHO GRADUATE WITH THEIR PILOT'S LICENSE.

AND THEN THE SECOND PODCAST WE DID WAS WITH OUR WORK BASED LEARNING PROGRAM.

SO CHRIS NEIL, WHO SUPERVISES THAT PROGRAM, JOINED US ALONG WITH OLIVIA SCHREIDER.

OLIVIA IS A SENIOR AT SUMMIT VIEW HIGH SCHOOL, AND OLIVIA WORKS FULL TIME FOR A LOCAL PLUMBING COMPANY.

SHE ACTUALLY IS IN CHARGE OF THEIR WAREHOUSE, AND SO SHE IS DOING THAT AT THE AGE OF 18 YEARS OLD AND IS ALSO GRADUATING FROM SUMMIT VIEW AT THE SAME TIME. SHE HAS THIS FULL TIME JOB.

SO THAT WAS AN INTERESTING ONE.

I JUST WANTED TO REMIND EVERYBODY THAT WE NOW HAVE, BECAUSE I KNOW YOU'RE ALL EXCITED ABOUT THIS.

WE NOW HAVE 24 EPISODES OF THE BATTLE GROUND PODCAST, RIGHT? 24 EPISODES.

AND THEY'RE ON JUST ABOUT EVERY TOPIC THAT YOU CAN THINK OF.

AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD WE DO AROUND 10 TO 12 A YEAR.

THEY RUN ABOUT 45 MINUTES.

WE'VE GOTTEN SMARTER.

THE FIRST FEW WE WERE RUNNING LIKE AN HOUR AND 20 MINUTES AND WE REALIZED THAT IS WAY TOO LONG.

SO NOW WE'VE CUT THEM DOWN TO ABOUT 45 MINUTES.

AND THEY'RE FUN TO DO FOR ME.

WE AVERAGE WE AVERAGE ABOUT 4 TO 500 PEOPLE FOR EVERY EPISODE THAT LISTENS TO THEM.

SOME OF OUR MORE POPULAR EPISODES, WE JUST HAD AN EPISODE WHERE WE FEATURED SOME OF OUR ADMINISTRATORS AND THAT ONE GOT ALMOST A THOUSAND LISTENS.

SO PEOPLE ARE LISTENING TO THEM.

I HOPE THAT IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH OUR COMMUNITY JUST TO LEARN ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH SCHOOLS AND AS PART OF THOSE, WE ALSO DO.

HIGHLIGHT THAT WE HIGHLIGHT OTHER THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON AS PART OF A SHORT EPISODE WITHIN AN EPISODE.

AND ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS WE DID THIS PAST ONE WAS WE HIGHLIGHTED THE YOUNG LADY AND I CAN'T REMEMBER HER NAME THAT WON THE COOKING CONTEST FOR SODEXO, AND SHE WAS THE CUTEST FOURTH GRADER FROM TUKES VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND THAT WAS REALLY FUN TO DO AS WELL.

DO YOU REMEMBER HER NAME? VIOLET. VIOLET.

VIOLET RIGHT.

SO JUST OUTSTANDING IF YOU GET A CHANCE.

AND THEN LAST, YOU MENTIONED THE GRADUATIONS.

I KNOW THAT MOST OF THE PEOPLE IN IN HERE UNDERSTAND THE SITUATIONS AROUND GRADUATIONS, BUT IN CASE ANYBODY IS LISTENING AND WONDERING, WE DID COMPLETE OUR GRADUATIONS OUTDOORS.

WE HAD FANTASTIC WE HAD HOT WEATHER VERY SIMILAR TO THIS FOR THE WEDNESDAY RIVER HOMELINK GRADUATION, BEAUTIFUL SKIES.

EVERYTHING WENT OFF A LITTLE BIT WINDY, BUT OUTSTANDING.

HAD ABOUT 2,500 PEOPLE ATTEND THAT ONE.

AND THEN WE HAD OUR PRAIRIE GRADUATION, WHICH WAS THE WEATHER WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT.

IT WAS 72 DEGREES, LITTLE OVERCAST, BUT YOU COULD SEE THE SUNSET COMING DOWN.

AND, YOU KNOW, IT WAS JUST FANTASTIC.

WE HAD ABOUT 4,000 PEOPLE AT THE PRAIRIE GRADUATION AND THEN WE DID THE BATTLE GROUND GRADUATION, WHICH ADDED STRESS TO MY LIFE BECAUSE IT WAS RAINING.

BUT I SEE SOME OF OUR GRADUATES, OUR BATTLE GROUND TEACHERS IN THE AUDIENCE, WE MADE IT THROUGH AND IT DIDN'T IT WASN'T BAD AT ALL.

IT WAS JUST LIGHT, LIGHT, LIGHT DROPS OF RAIN.

BUT WE GOT IT THROUGH AND WE'RE ABLE TO PULL IT OUT.

I'VE HAD PEOPLE WONDER WHY WE DO THE GRADUATIONS AT DISTRICT STADIUM, WHY WE RISK THE CHANCE OF WEATHER WHEN WE COULD EASILY MOVE THE GRADUATION INSIDE THE AUDITORIUM OR INTO THE GYM.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE CAPACITY IN THE GYM IS ABOUT 2,800.

WHEN WE HAVE THE GYM AVAILABLE FOR GRADUATIONS, WE LIMIT TICKETS FOR ALL GRADUATES AND FAMILIES TO SIX.

AND IF YOU NEED EXTRA TICKETS, SOMETIMES IF SOMEONE'S NOT BRINGING SIX, WE CAN THROW SOME EXTRAS YOUR WAY.

BUT IT'S REALLY HARD TO GET TICKETS FOR THAT.

[00:35:01]

THE OUTDOOR GRADUATION, WE HAD SEATING FOR OVER 5,000 PEOPLE.

WE WERE ABLE TO INVITE THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

I THINK IT SENDS A MESSAGE TO OUR GRADUATES THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT'S PACKED AND EVERYBODY'S THERE, AND IT SENDS A MESSAGE TO OUR FAMILIES THAT WELCOMING THEM, WE DIDN'T FILL UP THE STADIUM.

WE HAD ABOUT 4,500 THAT WERE THERE FOR THE BATTLE GROUND GRADUATION.

BUT ANYBODY WHO WANTED TO COME WAS ABLE TO WALK IN.

SO WE TAKE THAT RISK.

BUT I THINK THAT THE RISK IS IS WELL WORTH IT WHEN IT TURNS OUT LIKE THAT.

AND JUST SO YOU KNOW, WE WERE PREPARED.

WE DID HAVE UMBRELLAS AND WE DID HAVE PONCHOS FOR ALL OF OUR GRADUATES JUST IN CASE, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO USE THEM.

SO, AGAIN, I WANT TO THANK ALL THE PEOPLE.

TRAVIS DRAKE DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB.

OUR CUSTODIAL STAFF HAD BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND THE DISTRICT STADIUM DID A FANTASTIC JOB.

KEVIN JOLMA AND FACILITIES DID A WONDERFUL JOB.

AND OF COURSE, THANKS TO ALL THE SCHOOL TEAMS, THE COUNSELORS, THE ADMINISTRATORS, THE STAFF THAT COME OUT AND REALLY PUT ALL THE SMALL PIECES TOGETHER TO HAVE OUTSTANDING GRADUATIONS.

WE HAVE TWO MORE TO GO TONIGHT.

WE'RE DOING CAM AND THAT WILL BE DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE WEATHER.

OF COURSE, IT'S BEAUTIFUL OUT, BUT THAT WILL BE AT THE PRAIRIE AUDITORIUM.

CAM ONLY HAS 32 GRADUATES PARTICIPATING TONIGHT.

SO WE'RE ABLE TO FIT, OBVIOUSLY IN THE AUDITORIUM AND THEN WE'LL DO SUMMIT VIEW HIGH SCHOOL TOMORROW WILL END.

AND SOME OF YOU CURRENTLY HAS 56 STUDENTS WALKING IN THEIR GRADUATION.

SO AGAIN, THANKS TO EVERYBODY FOR YOUR SUPPORT, YOUR PARTICIPATION AND MOST OF ALL, THANK YOU TO CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ALMOST 1,000 GRADUATES FROM THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT THIS YEAR.

AND I WILL TURN IT OVER TO MICHELLE.

YES. IF WE HAVE ANY NEW ADMINISTRATORS, IF YOU CAN COME ON UP.

SO AUSTIN BROTHERS AND ALEX BENNETT, IF YOU WANT TO COME ON UP AND IS SELENA [INAUDIBLE] AND APRIL VONDERHAAR, IF YOU'RE IN THE AUDIENCE, COME ON UP AS WELL.

SO THAT'S OKAY.

THAT'S OKAY. WE WANT TO WE WANT TO STOP OUR MEETING AND GO BACK TO [INAUDIBLE].

YOU CAN COME UP FRONT RIGHT HERE.

YEAH. TURN THIS WAY.

RIGHT HERE. THERE YOU GO.

SO I WANT TO TAKE A MINUTE TO MAKE SURE WE WE RECOGNIZE BOTH OF THESE INDIVIDUALS.

I THINK YOU PROBABLY KNOW MOST KNOW THEM.

AUSTIN BROTHERS WAS HIRED IN OUR DISTRICT BACK IN 2020.

I THINK OVER ZOOM DURING DURING COVID AND HAS BEEN THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT CHIEF MIDDLE SCHOOL.

HE MOST RECENTLY HAS ACCEPTED THE POSITION OF PRINCIPAL AT PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE STARTING JULY 1ST.

SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED FOR FOR AUSTIN.

AND THEN ALEX BENNETT WAS ACTUALLY HE WAS IN OUR DISTRICT UP UNTIL LAST YEAR AND WENT TO LONGVIEW FOR A SHORT STINT AND THEN CAME RIGHT BACK WHEN HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY.

AND HE IS ACTUALLY CURRENTLY THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE AND WILL CONTINUE IN THAT CAPACITY.

WE DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO HONOR HIM WHEN HE WAS HIRED BACK.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE TAKE THIS TODAY TO DO THAT.

SO CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR PROMOTIONS AND GOOD LUCK.

SO YOU ARE THE A TEAM, THE AUSTIN AND ALEX TEAM.

YES. ALL RIGHT.

IF WE CAN GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE [APPLAUSE].

AND NO TEACHING AND LEARNING REPORT.

SO WE'RE TURNING IT OVER TO MICHELLE SCOTT AND.

OKAY, FINANCE.

THANK YOU.

GOOD AFTERNOON. OUR 21-22 AUDIT HAS COME TO AN END AND WE WILL HAVE OUR EXIT CONFERENCE THIS WEEK.

THE AUDIT WAS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS.

IT WAS DIVIDED INTO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT AND THEN OUR FEDERAL PROGRAM EXPENDITURES.

I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THE DISTRICT DID RECEIVE A CLEAN AUDIT ON THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, SO WE'RE PLEASED ABOUT THAT.

IN THE FEDERAL GRANTS AUDIT INCLUDED SPECIAL EDUCATION, ESSER, TITLE ONE, CHILD NUTRITION, AND THEN A NEW GRANT TO THE DISTRICT CALLED THE EMERGENCY CONNECTIVITY FUND GRANT FOR 1900 CHROMEBOOKS.

[00:40:07]

WE HAVE OVER 12,000 CHROMEBOOKS IN OUT FOR STUDENT LEARNING.

SO THIS WAS, AS I SAID, IT WAS A NEW GRANT THAT WAS PASSED BY CONGRESS AND ADMINISTERED BY THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATION COMMISSION, FCC. THE GRANT WAS TO RESPOND TO THE UNPRECEDENTED NEED FOR ALL STUDENTS TO HAVE CHROMEBOOKS FOR LEARNING DURING THE PANDEMIC.

UNFORTUNATELY, THE AUDITORS DID DETERMINE THAT THERE WAS A DOCUMENTATION ISSUE WITH OUR ECF GRANT, AND THEY DID ISSUE AN AUDIT FINDING ON THAT, AND WE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE DOCUMENTATION WAS NOT FULLY COMPLIANT.

BUT REST ASSURED THERE IS NO LOSS OF PUBLIC FUNDS.

ALL CHROMEBOOKS ARE ACCOUNTED FOR AND THEY'RE IN OUR INVENTORY SYSTEM AND AVAILABLE FOR STUDENT LEARNING.

SO IT JUST HAD TO DO WITH A DOCUMENTATION ISSUE.

WE DO HAVE INTERNAL CONTROLS IN PLACE AND HAVE STRENGTHENED THEM AS A RESULT OF THE AUDIT.

WE'D ALSO LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT I'D LIKE TO LET YOU KNOW THAT DURING THE RECENT STATEWIDE CONFERENCE CALL WITH SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIALS, BATTLE GROUND IS ONE OF AT LEAST 45 SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH THE SAME AUDIT FINDING.

SO THIS WAS A KIND OF A STATEWIDE DOCUMENTATION ISSUE THAT THE AUDITORS WERE ADDRESSING.

STATE SUPERINTENDENT REYKDAL HAS COMMUNICATED WITH THE STATE AUDITOR'S OFFICE THAT HE, AS WELL AS THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS, BELIEVE THAT THE FCC GUIDANCE PROVIDED FLEXIBILITY OF STUDENT USE AND DOCUMENTATION AND EXPLAIN THE CHALLENGES SCHOOL DISTRICTS FACE DURING THE PANDEMIC. SO IT WAS IT WAS GOOD TO KNOW THAT THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT WAS ALSO THERE, YOU KNOW, LETTING THEM KNOW THAT WE FELT THAT WE WERE DOING THE BEST JOB THAT WE COULD AT THE TIME SO.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? I KNOW IT'S A BIG DEAL FOR US BECAUSE WE'VE HAD YOU KNOW, AND I KNOW MICHELLE, TO HER CREDIT, IS FRUSTRATED AND FRUSTRATED, BUT FRUSTRATED MIGHT BE A GOOD WORD BECAUSE WE'VE HAD SUCH WE'VE HAD CLEAN AUDITS THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS.

AND THEN WE HAD THIS FINDING.

I WANT TO SAY THAT I BELIEVE THAT WE WERE DOING THE RIGHT THING WHERE WE GOT IN TROUBLE, OR ACCORDING TO THEM, WHERE WE GOT IN TROUBLE WAS WE HAD CHROMEBOOKS THAT WE ISSUED THAT WE GOT WITH THIS MONEY THAT WE ISSUED DIRECTLY TO STUDENTS.

THAT WAS GREAT.

WE ALSO HAD CHROMEBOOKS THAT FOR THIS MONEY THAT WE USED TO TO RESTOCK OUR CHROMEBOOK CARTS IN SCHOOLS.

AND EVEN THOUGH WE WERE ABLE TO SHOW THE STUDENT USAGE OF THOSE CHROMEBOOK CARTS AND SHOW THAT STUDENTS WERE USING THOSE CHROMEBOOKS AND USING THEM ON A REGULAR BASIS WITHIN THE SCHOOLS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T ASSIGN THOSE CHROMEBOOKS TO INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS.

THAT'S WHERE WE GOT THE DING, WHICH I THINK IS VERY FRUSTRATING.

AND AS MICHELLE SAID, THERE WERE 46, 45 OTHER DISTRICTS, INCLUDING SOME NEIGHBORING DISTRICTS, THAT DID THE SAME EXACT THING THAT WE DID, BECAUSE OUR IMPRESSION WAS THAT WE COULD DO THAT.

AND OBVIOUSLY, WE WE STILL ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY AND WE ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY.

BUT THERE'S THAT ACCEPTANCE WITH AN ASTERISK ON THE SIDE BECAUSE WE'D LIKE TO EXPLAIN OURSELVES.

SO THAT'S WHAT IT IS.

AND IT'S STILL A CREDIT TO THE WORK OF MICHELLE AND HER TEAM AND TO SCOTT MCDANIEL, WHO SUPERVISED THAT GRANT.

BECAUSE IN THE END, I THINK THE BIG THE BIG TAKEAWAY FOR ME WAS IN THE END, WE GOT THE CHROMEBOOKS TO WHERE THEY NEEDED TO BE AND THE STUDENTS GOT TO USE THEM. AND THAT'S ALL I'LL SAY.

AND WITH THAT, KEVIN IS NOT HERE TODAY.

KEVIN HAD A LONG WEEKEND.

HE WORKED ON SATURDAY, TEARING DOWN THE GRADUATION, THE STADIUM, THE STAGE, THE CHAIRS, THE SOUND SYSTEM, ALL OF THAT. AND SO HE'S DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ON THE AGENDA.

SO I TOLD HIM HE COULD GO HOME TODAY.

AND THEN AMANDA DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING EITHER.

SO THAT'S IT FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

ALL RIGHT. WELL, WITH THAT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO CITIZENS COMMENTS.

[8. Citizens' Comments]

WE DO HAVE NINE CITIZENS SIGNED UP TO SPEAK.

I WILL ASK THAT WE DO FILE IN ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER.

I HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO LET YOU GO OVER SO THAT YOU CAN BE HEARD BEYOND THE THREE MINUTES.

[00:45:04]

THAT WILL NOT BE THE CASE TODAY AS WE ARE PUSHED FOR TIME.

SO PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF THAT.

RICARDO HAS THE TIMERS AND HE WILL BE WAVING YOU TO GIVE YOU NOTICE.

SO WITH THAT AND I WILL READ THE ORDER.

JUST SO YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME UP ONE RIGHT AFTER THE OTHER.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO WAIT TO BE CALLED.

I WILL CALL YOU. BUT IF YOU KNOW YOU'RE OUT, IF YOU KNOW YOUR ORDER, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COME UP.

TIFFANY SHOOP IS FIRST, THEN KIM.

KIM BECKER. AND THEN KIMBERLY [INAUDIBLE].

OKAY. YEAH. SO, TIFFANY, IF YOU WANT TO START, PLEASE.

HELLO AGAIN. AS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THIS COMMUNITY, I HAVE WITNESSED THE NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES AND BENEFITS THAT THIS DISTRICT PROUDLY OFFERS.

WHILE WE CELEBRATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF MANY STUDENTS DURING GRADUATION CEREMONIES AND REFLECT ON THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESS, IT DEEPLY SADDENS ME TO KNOW THAT MY OWN STUDENT WILL NEVER HAVE THE CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE THE COUNTLESS OPPORTUNITIES THAT THIS DISTRICT PROMOTES.

MY STUDENT WILL NOT LEAVE THIS DISTRICT WITH A DIPLOMA AS I HAD HOPED.

SHE WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED FOR AWARDS, FOR GOOD GRADES, BEHAVIOR ACCOLADES, OR EVEN A CERTIFICATE FOR A HIGH GPA.

INSTEAD, SHE WATCHES THESE CEREMONIES FROM THE SIDELINES, UNABLE TO ATTAIN WHAT SEEMS EFFORTLESSLY ATTAINABLE FOR HER PEERS.

INSTEAD, MY STUDENT HAS THE BURDEN OF A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF MISSING ASSIGNMENTS 56 TO BE EXACT MULTIPLE FAILING GRADES AND A SHATTERED SENSE OF SELF-WORTH, WHICH I BELIEVE COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED WITH PROPER SUPPORT AND EARLY INTERVENTIONS.

ADDITIONALLY, SHE WILL CARRY SCARS FROM HER TIME HERE IN THIS DISTRICT THAT WILL LAST A LIFETIME FOR HER.

ACADEMICALLY, SHE BEARS THE SCARS OF A SIGNIFICANT LEARNING GAP IN HER READING COMPREHENSION.

EMOTIONALLY, SHE CARRIES SCARS OF LOW SELF ESTEEM, TRUST ISSUES AND ANXIETY.

HOWEVER, THE MOST ALARMING AND DISTRESSING SCARS SHE BEARS IS A PHYSICAL ONE CAUSED BY SELF HARM THAT I FIRMLY BELIEVE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH INTERVENTION WHEN SHE EXHIBITED DANGEROUS BEHAVIORS MULTIPLE TIMES IN HER CLASS.

IF THE DISTRICT MESSAGE TO FAMILIES IS A COMMITMENT TO REACHING EVERY STUDENT ACADEMICALLY, SOCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY, THEN WHY DID THIS SITUATION OCCUR WITH MY STUDENT? WHERE IS THE SUPPORT SYSTEM THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE VILLAGE THAT RAISES AND NURTURES OUR CHILDREN? THE DISCONNECT BETWEEN THE DISTRICT'S PROFESSIONAL VALUES AND THE REALITY EXPERIENCED BY STUDENTS LIKE MINE IS DISHEARTENING.

THE LACK OF PROACTIVE MEASURES AND MEANINGFUL INTERVENTION HAS LEFT US NO CHOICE BUT TO SEEK A BETTER EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT ELSEWHERE.

DESPITE MOVING INTO THIS DISTRICT WITH THE HOPES OF AVOIDING SUCH ISSUES.

I HAD ANTICIPATED THAT THE DISTRICT WOULD DEMONSTRATE GENUINE COMMITMENT AND TAKE SWIFT ACTION TO ADDRESS MY STUDENT'S CHALLENGES.

UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE BEEN MET WITH A SENSE OF ABANDONMENT AND DISAPPOINTMENT, AND IT IS A PAINFUL REALIZATION THAT WE ARE LEFT TO NAVIGATE THIS DIFFICULT SITUATION THAT WAS CREATED TOGETHER ALONE, WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OR GUIDANCE WE EXPECT FROM OUR LOCAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY.

I IMPLORE THE BOARD AND THE DISTRICT LEADERS TO REFLECT ON THE DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THEIR STATED IDEALS THAT I PERSONALLY HELPED WRITE AS A FORMER CAC MEMBER AND THE ACTUAL EXPERIENCES OF STUDENTS LIKE MINE.

ONLY THROUGH SELF-REFLECTION, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND A GENUINE COMMITMENT TO CHANGE CAN THIS DISTRICT ENSURE THAT NO OTHER STUDENT OR FAMILY IS LEFT FEELING UNHEARD, UNSUPPORTED AND DISHEARTENED.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

KIM BECKER.

HI. I'M HERE TO TALK TO YOU AS A TEACHER TODAY.

I KNOW YOU'VE MET ME BEFORE.

I'M A SEVENTH GRADE EIGHTH GRADE TEACHER OR SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER? I'M SORRY. TEACHING MATH AND SCIENCE AT LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I WAS UP AT AMBOY FOR 15 YEARS TEACHING ELA AND MATH AT AMBOY.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION WHILE I WAS THERE WHILE AT AMBOY, IT WAS IT'S A GREAT SCHOOL AND EVERYTHING, BUT OUR ELL PROGRAM, OUR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS, WAS VERY, VERY SMALL.

WE HAD MAYBE SIX STUDENTS OUT OF 500 STUDENTS HERE AT LAURIN, WE HAVE OVER 200 STUDENTS OUT OF 760 STUDENTS.

AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT JUST ONE CLASS.

I HAVE A CLASS AT THE END OF THE DAY, MATH CLASS WITH 28 STUDENTS AND 28% OF THOSE CHILDREN ARE ELL.

I HAVE ANOTHER TWO CHILDREN THAT ARE ACTUALLY SPECIAL ED, SO I HAVE OVER 35% OF MY CHILDREN ARE SPECIAL AND HAVE SPECIAL

[00:50:01]

NEEDS AND I CAN'T DO IT ALL.

AND ELL IS A VERY UNIQUE SITUATION.

WE HAVE FANTASTIC PEOPLE WORKING THERE RIGHT NOW, MARIA AND TERESA AT AT LAURIN.

BUT ONE OF THE DISADVANTAGES THEY JUST CANNOT KEEP.

BY THE WAY, LAURIN ALSO HAS 29 DIFFERENT LANGUAGES GOING ON.

I HAVE CHILDREN THAT ARE READY TO EXIT THE PROGRAM.

I HAVE CHILDREN THAT ARE THAT HAVE ONLY BEEN IN THE COUNTRY FOR SIX MONTHS AND THEY CAN BARELY SPEAK THE LANGUAGE.

I'M PULLING OUT MY PHONES.

THEY'RE PULLING OUT THEIR PHONES.

WE'RE TALKING TO EACH OTHER.

SO ELL IS A PROGRAM THAT WE MUST TRULY START GETTING BEHIND BECAUSE WE'RE STARTING TO SEE THE THE CHANGE IN THE COMMUNITY.

ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS IS, OF COURSE, OUR OUR DISTRICT IS BUILDING.

WE ARE HAVING THE NUMBERS.

I MEAN, THIS WAS GREAT THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY RIFTS, UNLIKE SOME OF THE SURROUNDING DISTRICTS.

BUT WE NEED TO STRENGTHEN THIS PROGRAM.

I DON'T HAVE ALL THE TRAINING.

I NEED TO BE THAT TEACHER FOR THOSE STUDENTS AND I NEED YOU TO PUT YOUR MONEY INTO THE SYSTEM FOR ELL BECAUSE WE'RE SEEING THEM AND WE'RE SEEING MORE AND MORE.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU, KIM.

KIMBERLY VYSSOTSKY.

I AM PROBABLY SAYING YOUR NAME HORRIBLY WRONG.

OKAY. AMANDA FULFER, YOU'RE NEXT, FOLLOWED BY LORI SIBLEY.

MY NAME IS KIMBERLY VYSSOTSKY, AND I AM A PRODUCT OF BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS, AS WELL AS A TEACHER IN THE DISTRICT FOR TEN YEARS AND A PARENT OF CHILDREN ATTENDING OUR SCHOOLS IN THE FALL.

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT AND SHARE THE STORY OF MY FIFTH PERIOD CLASS WITH YOU.

I HAVE TAUGHT SEVENTH GRADE AT LAURIN FOR TEN YEARS AND I HAVE NOTICED THE NEED FOR MORE SUPPORT IN GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOMS, SPECIFICALLY SPECIAL EDUCATION, MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND CLASS SIZE.

MY FIFTH PERIOD WILL GIVE YOU A LOOK INTO EACH.

DURING FIFTH PERIOD I TEACH WASHINGTON STATE HISTORY A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT TAUGHT DURING A STUDENT'S SEVENTH GRADE YEAR.

THEY MUST PASS THIS CLASS IN ORDER TO WALK ACROSS THE STAGE OR HAVE TO COMPLETE CREDIT RECOVERY AND LOSE ELECTIVES IN HIGH SCHOOL WHILE DOING SO.

AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, I HAD 30 STUDENTS ENROLLED IN MY CLASS.

I HAD TO SCROUNGE AROUND CAMPUS ON MY PREPS TO FIND ANOTHER DESK AND A CHAIR FOR MY 30TH STUDENT.

AS LAURIN HAS UPWARDS OF 750 STUDENTS AND RESOURCES.

YES, EVEN FURNITURE IS SLIM PICKINGS.

WITHIN THIS 30, I HAD ENROLLED FIVE MULTILINGUAL NEWCOMERS AND THREE MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS RECEIVING SERVICES.

THESE EIGHT REPRESENTED FIVE LANGUAGES SPANISH, UKRAINIAN, RUSSIAN, TURKIC AND TIGRINYA.

THE FIVE NEWCOMERS DID NOT SPEAK ANY ENGLISH UPON ARRIVAL IN MY CLASSROOM.

THIS MEANT I WAS DIFFERENTIATING AND TRANSLATING EACH DAILY LESSON SO THAT THESE STUDENTS COULD ACCESS THEIR EDUCATION TO A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.

I DID HAVE AN INTERPRETIVE ASSISTANT FOR THREE WEEKS, BUT THEN HE WAS NEEDED ELSEWHERE IN OUR SCHOOL.

I ALSO HAD A STUDENT WHO WAS HARD OF HEARING AND REQUIRED AN ASL INTERPRETER AND CLOSED CAPTIONING ON ALL ASSIGNMENTS WITH THOSE TWO ADDED ADULTS, ALL 30 STUDENTS AND MYSELF.

IT WAS CROWDED WITH 33 PEOPLE IN ONE ROOM.

THE REST OF THE CLASS WAS COMPRISED OF FOUR HIGHLY CAPABLE STUDENTS, TWO TIER THREE BEHAVIOR STUDENTS, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE TOP OFFENDERS FOR BEHAVIOR IN THE SCHOOL.

THREE SPED STUDENTS AND TWO STUDENTS WITH 504 PLANS.

THIS BRINGS THE TOTAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS WITH DOCUMENTED AND LEGALLY BINDING DIFFERENTIATION NEEDS TO 19 OF MY 30 STUDENTS.

BECAUSE THE SPED TEACHERS HAVE SO MANY STUDENTS ON THEIR CASELOAD, IT WAS A CHALLENGE TO MEET OR COLLABORATE ON WHAT THESE STUDENTS NEEDED.

BECAUSE LAURIN HAS 33% MULTILINGUAL STUDENTS WITH ONE FULL TIME MULTILINGUAL TEACHER AND A PART TIME TEACHER NEW THIS YEAR, THEY HAD TO TRUST ME TO DO WHAT I COULD DO TO HELP SUPPORT THESE STUDENTS GETTING THE EDUCATION THEY DESERVE.

I HAD STUDENTS WITH DOCUMENTED ANXIETY GO INTO PANIC ATTACKS AT THE SHEER VOLUME OF STUDENTS AND ADULTS IN THE ROOM DURING THIS CLASS, AND OUR SEL PARA HAD TO COME AND GET THEM BEFORE THEY COULD BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT LEAVE THEMSELVES IF HE DIDN'T ALREADY HAVE MULTIPLE STUDENTS IN HIS ROOM WHERE HE COULD NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET THAT WITH CROWDING COMES TENSION.

AND AT THE END OF APRIL, ONE OF MY TIER THREE BEHAVIOR STUDENTS SNAPPED, PURSUED ANOTHER STUDENT AROUND THE ROOM WHERE I HAD TO PUT MYSELF BETWEEN TWO 5"10 AND 6 FOOT YOUNG MEN AND WAS ABLE TO ENSURE NOT A SCRATCH, BRUISE OR INJURY WAS LEFT ON ANYONE BUT MYSELF FOR A TOTAL OF SIX MINUTES OF ACTIVE PHYSICAL ALTERCATION AND ASSAULT UNTIL IT TOOK TWO GROWN MEN TO GET THE OTHER ASSAILANT OUT OF THE ROOM.

BUT THIS IS MY JOB AND I LOVE WHAT I DO, AND I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO GIVE BACK TO THE SCHOOLS THAT HELPED ME BECAUSE I BECOME THE PERSON THAT I AM.

HOWEVER, I AM MOVING SCHOOLS AT THE END OF THIS YEAR.

LAURIN IS NOT AN ANOMALY AND THIS WILL ONLY IMPROVE IF WE NEGOTIATE IN GOOD FAITH FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION, MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT, SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND CLASS SIZE. I WORK MY TAIL OFF AND GIVE MY ALL, INCLUDING MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH, TO THIS JOB.

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE DISTRICT AND BGA UNION WORKING BETTER TOGETHER.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU [APPLAUSE].

I WOULD ALSO REMIND THE AUDIENCE, PLEASE DO NOT CLAP.

I KNOW THAT YOU'RE SUPPORTING HER AND I APPRECIATE THAT, BUT WE CAN'T HAVE THE DISRUPTION.

[00:55:03]

THANK YOU. I LIKE HOW YOU LOWERED THE MIC FOR ME.

I DIDN'T WANT TO FOLLOW THAT.

BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY.

I'M AMANDA FULFER.

I WORK AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

I TEACH AP WORLD HISTORY, AND I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE DISTRICT FOR ALLOWING ME TO GO ONCE AGAIN TO THE AP READ TO GRADE AP EXAMS. NOW, THIS YEAR I GOT TO HEAR I HAD A ROOMMATE FROM ARKANSAS.

I HAD A GENTLEMAN FROM NEW YORK AT MY TABLE, ANOTHER ONE FROM FLORIDA.

AND I STARTED HEARING SOME STORIES.

SO I JUST WANT TO TELL YOU ALL, THANK YOU, BECAUSE WE HAVE AN AMAZING SCHOOL BOARD HERE THAT BACKS US UP.

I DON'T HAVE TO TAKE AN INVENTORY OF EVERY BOOK IN MY CLASS AND GIVE IT TO SOMEONE TO DETERMINE IF IT'S ACCEPTABLE.

I DON'T HAVE TO REDACT THINGS IN A TEXTBOOK THAT THE GOVERNMENT FINDS UNACCEPTABLE.

SO THANK YOU.

I AM PROUD TO WORK HERE, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WE NEED TO LOOK AT HOW TO FURTHER FUND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR OUR STUDENTS.

BECAUSE I LEFT THE CLASSROOM FOR A WEEK TO GO TO A READ, I WAS WORRIED ABOUT MY STUDENT WHO CHOOSES ME AS HER SAFE PERSON.

SHE IS SUICIDAL.

I HAVE HAD MANY TIMES WHERE SHE COMES TO MY ROOM BECAUSE I AM HER SAFE PERSON.

THAT'S NOT REALLY MY JOB.

I DO IT.

I CARE FOR THE STUDENT IMMENSELY AND I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYTHING HAPPEN TO HER.

BUT WE NEED TO HAVE BETTER SUPPORTS IN PLACE.

WHETHER THAT'S LIKE A FULL TIME MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR, THE STUDENT HAS A WRAPAROUND TEAM AND LIKE I SAID, FOR WHATEVER REASON, SHE'S CHOSEN ME AND I LOVE THAT.

I'M GRATEFUL FOR THAT.

BUT I THINK AS A DISTRICT, WE NEED TO LOOK AT HOW BETTER TO SUPPORT THESE STUDENTS.

I HAVE STUDENTS IN MY CLASSROOM THAT HAVE SCARS FROM CUTTING AND SELF-HARM AND I QUESTION, WHAT ARE WE DOING? AS I LISTENED TO THE MOTHER SPEAK, HOW ARE WE SUPPORTING THESE STUDENTS WHO NEED OUR HELP? BECAUSE THAT'S NOT EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TRAINED IN.

I WAS TRAINED IN OTTOMANS AND MEIJI RESTORATION APPARENTLY THIS WEEK.

SO THAT WAS WHAT I WANTED TO COME UP HERE AND SAY IS THANK YOU TO YOU GUYS FOR BEING SUPPORTIVE OF WHAT WE DO.

AND IF YOU COULD HELP US OUT AND RECOGNIZE THAT EXTRA STEPS THAT WE'RE TAKING TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND NEGOTIATE A FAIR CONTRACT, WE WOULD BE GRATEFUL.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, LORI SIBLEY AND THEN JEANNIE VOLLMER.

[INAUDIBLE] I'M LORI SIBLEY.

I WORK AT DAYBREAK PRIMARY.

SECOND GRADE GENERAL ED, BUT I'M HERE ACTUALLY TO SPEAK FOR OUR SPECIAL ED KIDS, STAFF ASSISTANTS, ALL OF THEM. THEY ARE FACING SO MANY ISSUES RIGHT NOW AND THE RESOURCE PROGRAMS IN GENERAL, JUST AS ONE EXAMPLE, HAVE STUDENTS WITH INTENSIVE BEHAVIORS AS WELL AS, OF COURSE, ACADEMICS.

THE BEHAVIORS ARE SO IMPACTFUL THAT THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO MEET WITH THEY HAVE TO CLOSE THEIR ROOMS TO DEAL WITH THE BEHAVIOR ISSUES WHILE AND THEN THEY CAN'T SERVE THE REGULAR THE REGULAR ACADEMIC IEPS. AND WE KNOW THAT STUDENTS SHOULD BE SERVED IN THEIR LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND WE WANT THAT.

HOWEVER, WITH RESOURCE TEACHERS, THEIR CASELOADS ARE 27 OR MORE.

IF THEY'RE IN OVERLOAD, THEY ARE LEGALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR SERVING THESE IEP GOALS AND PROVIDING THIS INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION FOR EACH OF THE STUDENTS.

BUT THEY'RE TRYING TO MANAGE THESE BEHAVIORS.

THEY'RE TRYING TO MANAGE ALL OF THE ACADEMIC NEEDS AS WELL, WHILE DEALING WITH STUDENTS WHO ELOPE, WHICH I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THAT'S A NEW, NOT A NEW TERM, BUT IT'S A TERM THAT I HADN'T HEARD WITH KIDS THAT RUN.

SO THEY'VE GOT TO CHASE AND AND FIND THOSE STUDENTS AND KEEP THEM IN THE ROOM AND SO THEY CAN SERVE THEM.

RESOURCE ROOMS ARE BEING CLEARED SO THAT THESE BEHAVIORS CAN BE DEALT WITH, WHICH MEANS THAT I GET THOSE KIDS BACK.

THEIR MINUTES HAVE NOT BEEN SERVED.

WE'RE DOING A DISSERVICE TO THOSE KIDS.

IT'S A COMPLIANCE ISSUE AND WE HAVE LEGAL OBLIGATIONS TO BE SERVING ALL OF THESE STUDENTS AND WE'RE NOT.

SO OTHER DUTIES THAT THESE THE STAFF HAVE IS WRITING IEPS AND DESIGNING AND PLANNING THE INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION THAT THEY NEED, THE WEEKLY GOALS, ALL OF THIS.

AND WHEN ARE THESE TEACHERS SUPPOSED TO DO THAT? THEY OFTEN DON'T GET A PREP AND THEY DON'T GET A LUNCH, WHICH, BY THE WAY, IS AGAINST THE LAW.

[01:00:04]

IT'S AGAINST CONTRACT AND THE LAW.

AND THEY SERIOUSLY DON'T THEY WORK THROUGH THOSE TWO TIMES OF THE DAY, MANY TIMES.

SO THEY'RE EXHAUSTED.

THAT'S WHY WE'RE LOSING SPECIAL ED STAFF TO OTHER DISTRICTS.

AND WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT THAT AS WE CONTINUE TO BARGAIN.

I ASK I IMPLORE THE SCHOOL BOARD TO DIRECT THE DISTRICT TO WORK ON A FAIR CONTRACT, USE THE MONEY THAT WAS SENT DOWN FROM THE STATE IN THE WAY THAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO.

WE GOT ADDITIONAL MONEY.

LET'S USE IT. LET'S MAKE SOME MORE CLASSROOMS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT, BUT THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.

THANK YOU, JEANNIE VOLLMER.

AND THEN FOLLOWED BY EMILY BRICK, I'M GOING TO SAY, I GUESS.

LET ME JUST TAKE MY TIME GETTING TO THE PODIUM.

ALL RIGHT.

LET'S GET THIS SET UP.

READ MY COMMENTS BECAUSE OFF THE CUFF, I MIGHT GET A LITTLE WILD.

ALL RIGHT. SO HELLO. MY NAME IS JEANNIE VOLLMER, AND I'VE BEEN A SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST FOR THE DISTRICT FOR THE PAST 8 SCHOOL YEARS.

I'M FINISHING UP MY 12TH YEAR IN PUBLIC EDUCATION OVERALL, AND I'M HERE TODAY TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT TWO TOPICS.

SO THE FIRST TOPIC I'D LIKE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IS PROTECTING THE LGBTQIA STUDENTS AND FAMILIES IN BATTLE GROUND.

A FEW BOARD MEETINGS AGO, A COMMUNITY MEMBER HAD THE GALL TO IMPLORE THE MEN IN OUR DISTRICT TO PROTECT THE GIRLS.

MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT THE INTENTION OF THIS PERSON'S COMMENTS TO THE BOARD.

THERE WERE ABSOLUTELY NO GOOD INTENTIONS BEHIND THOSE REMARKS.

THOSE REMARKS WERE MADE TO INCITE VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

THE MANTRA PROTECT OUR GIRLS OR ONLY MEN CAN PROTECT WOMEN AND GIRLS FROM IMAGINARY THREATS IS A DOG WHISTLE TO THOSE IN OUR COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING AREAS TO COME TO BATTLE GROUND TARGET MARGINALIZED AND VULNERABLE GROUPS AND REASSURE THEM THAT THERE ARE OTHER BIGOTS, RACISTS AND MISOGYNISTS IN THIS COMMUNITY THAT WILL BACK THEM IN THE TERROR THAT THEY WANT TO INFLICT ON OTHERS.

WELL, I AIN'T A DOG, BUT I HEAR THE REAL MESSAGE BEHIND THAT DOG WHISTLE AND I WILL NOT STAND BY AND LET IT GO UNADDRESSED.

I IMPLORE THIS BOARD AND OUR DISTRICT TO STAND FIRMLY AGAINST HATEFUL, VIOLENT RHETORIC THAT CITIZENS FEEL SO COMFORTABLE PUTTING ON DISPLAY AT THESE MEETINGS AND IN PRIVATE.

IF THERE IS ANYONE IN THIS COMMUNITY WHO DISAGREES WITH GAY RIGHTS, TRANS RIGHTS, AND THE RIGHTS TO A FAIR, FREE AND APPROPRIATE EDUCATION FOR ALL STUDENTS, YOU ARE WELCOME TO COME FIND ME, THREATEN ME, DISAGREE WITH ME, AND TRY TO INTIMIDATE ME.

IT AIN'T GOING TO WORK.

AGAIN, MY NAME IS JEAN MICHELLE VOLLMER.

I'M AN ALLY.

I'M AN SLP. I'M HERE.

WE'RE QUEER, AND YOU NEED TO GET USED TO IT.

NOW FOR A MOMENT OF LOVE AND COMPASSION AND KINDNESS AND CARE TO THE LGBTQIA ADULTS, PARENTS AND CHILDREN IN THIS TOWN.

I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW A FEW THINGS.

I SEE YOU.

I LOVE YOU.

AND YOU DESERVE TO FEEL SAFE AND LOVED NO MATTER WHAT COMMUNITY YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE IN.

YOU BELONG EXACTLY WHERE YOU ARE, AND YOU ARE ENTITLED TO THE RIGHTS AND PROTECTIONS THAT EVERY CITIZEN IN THIS COUNTRY IS ENTITLED TO.

PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU HAVE STAFF IN THIS DISTRICT WHO LOVE YOUR CHILDREN, WHO LOVE YOU, AND WHO ARE HERE TO HELP YOU, ADVOCATE FOR YOU AND PROTECT YOU.

NOW, I'D LIKE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE REALITIES OF MY JOB AS AN SLP AND SPECIAL EDUCATION STAFF MEMBER IN THIS DISTRICT.

THE ONLY CURRENT CONTRACT PROTECTIONS I HAVE ARE THAT IF I SURPASS MY CASELOAD CAP OF 43, I GET A SMALL STIPEND EACH MONTH PER STUDENT.

I'M SERVING OVER MY CAP.

I'M ALSO GUARANTEED THAT I CANNOT BE PLACED IN MORE THAN TWO SCHOOLS.

I'M GIVEN AN EXTENDED CONTRACT THAT COMPENSATES ME FOR 52.5 HOURS OF WORK OUTSIDE MY 180 DAY CONTRACT OF 7.5 HOURS PER DAY.

WAS THAT THREE MINUTES ALREADY? OKAY. IF YOU WANT TO KEEP GOOD, QUALIFIED, HIGHLY DEDICATED STAFF MEMBERS SPED STAFF MEMBERS IN THIS DISTRICT, PLEASE NEGOTIATE IN GOOD FAITH.

LISTEN TO OUR NEGOTIATING TEAM, RETAIN THE PEOPLE WHO ARE HERE TO DO THE WORK UNDER WHAT ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE SITUATIONS. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU, GUYS. THANK YOU, EMILY.

AND THEN FOLLOWED BY BEVERLY MALONEY AND THEN MICHELLE GREINER.

[01:05:03]

ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING, BOARD.

MY NAME IS EMILY URICH AND I AM A SPECIAL EDUCATOR FOR THE DISTRICT.

I AM HERE TO PLEASE ASK THE BOARD TO ENSURE SPECIAL EDUCATION WORKING CONDITIONS ARE ADDRESSED IN THIS CONTRACT.

I AM ONE OF MANY SPECIAL EDUCATORS WHO ARE SPLIT BETWEEN MULTIPLE BUILDINGS.

THIS IS NOT OKAY AND IT DOESN'T ADDRESS STUDENT NEEDS JUST STUDENT HEADCOUNT.

I WAS HIRED IN 2019 IN A FULL TIME POSITION AT MAPLE GROVE, AND I LOVE MY JOB.

I AM CURRENTLY SPLIT BETWEEN RIVER HOMELINK AND MAPLE GROVE.

OVER THE YEARS, MY POSITION HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO FIT THE NEEDS OF THE DISTRICT, NEVER THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS FROM COVERING ANOTHER TEACHER ON MATERNITY LEAVE TO LONG TERM LEAVES IN GENERAL.

EVERY YEAR MY JOB HAS BEEN DIFFERENT AND I'VE EMBRACED DIFFERENT BECAUSE I SEE THE AMAZING WORK THAT I DO EVERY SINGLE DAY AND THE IMPACTS ON STUDENT GROWTH.

I DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP ON MY CAREER OF BEING A SPED TEACHER BECAUSE I LOVE IT, BUT I'M TIRED.

EVERY YEAR MY JOB DESCRIPTION HAS CHANGED AND NEVER IN A GOOD OR MORE PURPOSEFUL WAY.

I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MONITORING AND SERVING OVER 60 IEP GOALS.

THE REALITY OF A SPLIT POSITION IS THAT THE WORKLOADS AREN'T COMPARABLE TO FULL TIME POSITIONS WHICH ARE ALSO AT EACH BUILDING.

THE DEMANDS OF MY STUDENTS AREN'T APPROPRIATELY SUPPORTED WHEN I'M NOT THERE TO RESPOND WHEN MY STUDENTS ARE IN CRISIS.

IT'S ALSO NOT EQUITABLE TO THE FULL TIME TEACHER WHO MUST ASSUME MY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DISRUPT THEIR STUDENT SERVICES TO SUPPORT MY STUDENTS WHEN I CANNOT.

PLEASE LOOK AT THE IMPACT OF THESE SPLIT POSITIONS HAVE ON THE RETENTION OF HIGHLY QUALIFIED SPED TEACHERS AND PARAEDUCATORS.

I CAN TELL YOU WITH CONFIDENCE THESE POSITIONS ARE BURNING STAFF OUT, LEADING TO A HIGH TURNOVER OF STAFFS IN THESE POSITIONS.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE PEOPLE DO TWO JOBS, PAY THEM FOR IT OR JUST DON'T HAVE SPLIT POSITIONS.

WHEN MY FIRST YEAR AS A FULL TIME TEACHER IS THE MOST DOABLE, THAT'S A PROBLEM.

TO CONCLUDE, PLEASE ADDRESS WORKING CONDITIONS FOR SPECIAL EDUCATORS.

AMONG THE BIGGEST ISSUES ARE CONSTRAINTS WITH MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES.

SERVICES ARE BEING SCHEDULE BASED, LACK OF TIME WITH PARAEDUCATORS AND BEING ABLE TO COLLABORATE OR EVEN TRAIN THEM TO DO THEIR JOB.

LACK OF ADMIN AND GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER UNDERSTANDING OF SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES.

PLEASE MAKE SPED WORKING CONDITIONS BETTER FOR STAFF BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

BEVERLY MALONEY.

HELLO, MY NAME IS BEVERLY MALONEY AND I AM A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT MAPLE GROVE.

I RUN A CBC CLASSROOM, A CENTER BASED CLASSROOM.

STUDENTS IN MY CLASSROOM SPEND THE MAJORITY OF THEIR TIME IN MY CBC ROOM AND THEN TRANSITION OUT INTO THE GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSROOMS FOR THEIR SPECIALISTS, SEL, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, ET CETERA.

SO BASICALLY, I HAVE KIDS FROM K THROUGH FOUR, FIVE GRADES, TEN DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS, TEN DIFFERENT TEACHERS, TEN DIFFERENT LEVELS, DIFFERENT AGES, GRADES, ACADEMIC LEVELS, SENSORY NEEDS, COMMUNICATION NEEDS, BEHAVIORAL NEEDS.

I ALSO HAVE TO HELP WITH STATE TESTING.

EVERY YEAR IN THE SPRING THROUGH, WE AIM TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT ALL THE STATE TESTING FOR THE KIDDOS WHO CANNOT DO THE REGULAR SMARTER BALANCED ASSESSMENTS.

SO I MANAGE THE IEPS FOR ALL MY STUDENTS.

THIS MEANS I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR SETTING UP MEETINGS, THE CREATION, RENEWAL AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL THE IEPS.

EVERY IEP TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND MANY MEETINGS AMONG THE TEAM.

I FIND MYSELF PUTTING IN APPROXIMATELY EIGHT HOURS FOR EACH IEP, AGAIN FOR THE CREATION AND RENEWAL.

SO ALSO ON TOP OF MY JOB, WHICH ISN'T EVEN IN MY JOB DESCRIPTION, IS MANAGING ASSISTANCE.

I HAVE THIS YEAR SIX ASSISTANTS TWO BASE LOADS AND THEN FOUR ONE ON ONES.

SO THAT MEANS THAT FOR THIS I HAVE TO DIRECT AND SCHEDULE ALL THE MINUTES OF THEIR DAY, INCLUDING WHAT THEY WILL TEACH THE KIDS, WHEN THEY WILL TEACH THE KIDS, HOW THEY WILL TEACH THEIR KIDS, AND WHEN THEY TAKE THEIR LUNCHES, BREAKS, ETCETERA.

THAT'S A THAT'S A JOB RIGHT THERE.

AND I AM NOT THE ASSISTANCE MANAGER.

THEIR DIRECT SUPERVISOR IS ACTUALLY THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL WHO DOES VERY MINIMAL IN RESPECT TO THE MANAGING.

IF THERE'S A PROBLEM, THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MUST COME TO ME FOR ALL DOCUMENTATION AND INFORMATION, AND THEN I FILL IN THEIR PERFORMANCE APPRAISALS EACH YEAR AND TURN THAT OVER TO THE PRINCIPAL AS WELL.

SO WHEN AN ASSISTANT IS ABSENT, SUBS ARE DIFFICULT TO FIND IN SPECIAL EDUCATION.

THEY'RE DIFFICULT. YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU'RE GOING TO GET OR IF THE POSITION IS FILLED.

SINCE I'M NOT PRIVY TO THE SUBSTITUTE INFORMATION, IT'S A SURPRISE EVERY DAY WHETHER I HAVE COVERAGE OR NOT.

[01:10:01]

BETWEEN BETWEEN BEING SHORT ONE ASSISTANT POSITION MOST OF THIS YEAR AND GENERAL ABSENCES WITH EVERY OTHER AIDE WE HAVE, WE HAVE NEEDED ABOUT 1 TO 2 SUBS PER DAY.

I OFTEN HAVE TO MAKE UP THAT RULE, WHICH SETS ME BACK ON MY OWN TASKS.

AND TO PIGGYBACK ON WHAT EMILY WAS SAYING ALSO, I THINK THIS YEAR I CAN COUNT ON ONE HAND HOW MANY BREAKS I'VE HAD FOR LUNCHES, ZERO LUNCHES, I THINK.

AND SO IN ADDITION TO THIS, I FEEL LIKE A NURSE AS WELL.

I HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE PRONE TO SEIZURES AND MUST BE WATCHED CAREFULLY.

I HAVE A STUDENT WHO IS TUBE FED AND NEEDS TO BE FED TWICE A DAY AT SCHOOL.

THERE'S TONS OF PROBLEMS WITH THAT WITH TAKES TONS OF TIME FOR THAT AND LEAKAGE AND MUCH MESS.

SO I DO I LOVE WHAT I DO.

BUT MY POINT IS, IS THAT WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH SUPPORT.

I AM DOING THE JOB OF FOUR DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND EXPECTED TO DO IT IN A REGULAR STANDARD DAY WHILE MANAGING ALL OF WHAT I DESCRIBED.

I WEAR MANY HATS. TEACHER, NURSE, COUNSELOR, PSYCHOLOGIST AND MOST IMPORTANT SCHOOL MOM.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. AND LAST WE HAVE MICHELLE GREINER.

OKAY, SO I'M MICHELLE GREENER.

SO I'VE BEEN A PARENT FOR 19 YEARS.

I RECOGNIZE A LOT OF YOU.

I WAS HEARTBROKEN WHEN KIM SAID THAT SHE WAS GOING TO RESIGN BECAUSE MY MIDDLE SON PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT WHERE HE IS RIGHT NOW TO COLLEGE WITHOUT KIM.

SO I DECIDED TO GO BACK TO WORK THAT LATE DECEMBER.

SO I WAS HIRED AND I'M ALSO A CBC TEACHER, SO I HAVE KIDDOS WHO ARE ON THE SPECTRUM AND THEY ARE FABULOUS.

I LOVE IT. I ABSOLUTELY ADORE MY JOB.

I WAS HIRED ACTUALLY TO REPLACE A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER WHO HAD PUT IN HER NOTICE IN NOVEMBER TO QUIT.

SHE HAD REPLACED SOMEBODY WHO HAD TRANSITIONED OUT OF SPECIAL EDUCATION BECAUSE OF THE STRESS.

WHEN I WAS HIRED, I WENT TO ONE SCHOOL, BUT THEN THEY HAD A TEACHER WALK OUT OF ANOTHER SCHOOL, A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER.

SO I WENT TO HELP AT THAT SCHOOL AND THEN WAS FINALLY TRANSITIONED BACK TO PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY, WHICH I LOVE.

I LOVE ALL OF BATTLE GROUND SCHOOLS.

I AM A BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL MOM AND TEACHER AND PTO PERSON.

SO BUT THAT'S CONCERNING, RIGHT, THAT SO MANY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ARE CHOOSING TO LEAVE OUR DISTRICT. THE STUDENTS WHO I HAVE WHO I TEACH HAVE SUFFERED.

THEY'VE SUFFERED BECAUSE OF ALL THE TRANSITIONS THEY'VE SUFFERED, BECAUSE OF THE CONSTANCY.

SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ARE BURNED OUT.

MY CBC COLLEAGUE DID A GREAT SUMMARY THE PAPERWORK, THE BEHAVIOR, THE PLANNING BECAUSE RIGHT OUR IEPS ARE INDIVIDUALIZED FOR EACH CHILD.

SO EVERY STUDENT THAT WE HAVE, WE ARE DESIGNING AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CURRICULUM FOR THAT ONE STUDENT.

IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS, I'VE HAD ZERO LUNCHES, ZERO BREAKS.

I DON'T GET HOME UNTIL 6 OR 9 P.M.

AT NIGHT BECAUSE THAT'S THE TIME THAT I HAVE TO DO PAPERWORK BECAUSE DURING THE DAY MY KIDS ARE IN MY CLASSROOM.

I HAVE THREE THAT ARE IN THERE THE WHOLE TIME.

THERE'S NO TIME FOR BREAKS.

I NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PARAS THAT ARE IN THERE GET THEIR LEGAL BREAKS AND LUNCHES.

IT'S EXHAUSTING.

AND I WOULD REALLY LOVE IT IF WE COULD PLEASE SUPPORT OUR KIDDOS BY SUPPORTING THANK YOU, BY SUPPORTING SPECIAL EDUCATION WITH SMALLER CASELOADS AND FOR COMPENSATION FOR TIME WORKED.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT, THAT CONCLUDES OUR CITIZENS COMMENTS.

I JUST WANT TO SAY A HUGE THANK YOU FOR BEING MINDFUL OF THE SPEAKER BEFORE YOU, THE SPEAKER AFTER YOU, AND STAYING WITH IN MY REQUEST TO MANAGE YOUR TIME.

I APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.

[9. Consent Agenda (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA, WE HAVE ITEMS A THROUGH J.

IF I CAN FIND THE RIGHT PIECE OF PAPER.

WE HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING AT MAY 20TH OF MAY 22ND, THE SPECIAL MEETING FROM MAY 22ND.

BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS PERSONNEL REPORTS.

STUDENT TRAVEL.

WE APPROVED THE FIRST READING OF THE ADOPTION OF THE PROPOSED MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM AND K THROUGH 8 SEL CURRICULUM LAST TIME.

SO THE SECOND READING IS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA.

THOSE WERE APPROVED 5 TO 0.

[01:15:03]

ALSO THE I-READY RENEWAL AND THE APPROVAL OF THE DONATION FROM THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL CHEER BOOSTERS.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT ANYBODY WANTS TO HAVE REMOVED OR MADE A SEPARATE AGENDA ITEM, EITHER NOW OR FOR A LATER TIME, OR ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANY OF THE ITEMS ON THE AGENDA ON THE CONSENT AGENDA? HEARING NONE. I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION.

I MOVE THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

GREAT. WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

I WOULD LOOK TO OUR STUDENTS FOR YOUR ADVISORY VOTE.

APPROVE. WITH THAT, ANY FINAL CALL QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, THOUGHTS? HEARING NONE. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES.

4 TO 0.

THANK YOU. COULD I JUST ALSO SAY WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER TEACHER WHO'S ON TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA THAT WE DIDN'T RECOGNIZE, BUT I JUST HAVE TO SAY HIS NAME BECAUSE I TAUGHT WITH HIM. CURTIS COSTANZA HAD 24 YEARS IN THE DISTRICT, AND I KNOW MANY PEOPLE IN HERE HAVE REMEMBERED CURTIS.

SO WE DIDN'T GET HIM ON THE THING BECAUSE IT WAS BEFORE THE BOARD REPORT, BUT WANTED TO LET EVERYBODY KNOW THAT WE ALSO WANT TO RECOGNIZE HIM AND HE WILL BE MISSED.

THANK YOU. THANKS.

DO WE HAVE? DO WE HAVE SOMEBODY HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE DONATION FROM THE CHEER BOOSTERS? WOULD YOU PLEASE COME FORWARD? SURE. [INAUDIBLE] YEAH, AND THANKS FOR LETTING ME PUT YOU ON THE SPOT.

I JUST THINK THIS IS A PRETTY IMPRESSIVE DONATION, AND I JUST THINK IT'S WELL WORTH SPEAKING OUT LOUD.

SURE. I DON'T HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION OTHER THAN THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL BOOSTER CHEER BOOSTER RAISED $14,327 TO HELP PAY FOR UNIFORMS AND OTHER NECESSITIES FOR THE CHEER CHEERLEADING SQUAD.

YEAH, IT'S A BIG ONE. IT IS.

THEY DO A LOT OF WORK.

THEY DO A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS.

OR LIKE ONE BIG THING OR DON'T KNOW FOR SURE.

I DON'T KNOW. I'M SORRY.

I'M FILLING IN FOR MANNY.

WELL, THE BOOSTER CLUBS AT PRAIRIE AND PROBABLY ALL OF THE SCHOOLS.

I JUST KNOW THOSE A LITTLE BIT MORE CLOSELY.

THEY WORK HARD. THEY DO.

WE'RE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE THE COMMUNITY THAT WE DO.

YES, WE ARE. THANK YOU FOR BEING.

THANK YOU FOR COMING ON. THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT. AND WITH THAT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO OUR NEW BUSINESS, WHICH IS THE APPROVAL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE PROPOSED MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM.

[11. New Business (Board Vote w/Student Voice)]

ON THE CONSENT AGENDA. YEAH.

4 TO 0. IT'S HOT IN HERE.

IT'S LIKE, APPARENTLY I JUST, LIKE, PASSED OUT.

PASSED OUT. FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU FOR APPROVING THE SECOND READING OF THE SOCIAL STUDIES AND SEL CURRICULUM PROPOSALS VIA THE CONSENT AGENDA.

AND SO GIVEN THAT WE'RE HERE TO REQUEST FUNDING TO ACTUALLY PURCHASE THE MATERIALS FOR SOCIAL STUDIES, FOR SOCIAL STUDIES, THAT'S OUR CURRENT ESTIMATE IS $533,240.32.

SO I THINK YOU HAVE A KIND OF A SUMMARY OF THOSE COSTS IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

YOU GUYS KNOW AMY? ANYBODY? WILL THERE BE AN ANNUAL COST AS WELL IN ADDITION TO THIS? YEAH, THIS COST IS TOTAL.

THERE'S A CERTAIN COST THAT IS FOR RIGHT NOW AND THEN SOME OF IT ARE ONGOING, BUT MOST FOR THE SOCIAL STUDIES IS PAID UPFRONT.

YEAH. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO. ANY OF YOU WANT TO MAKE A MOTION? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE BUDGET FOR THE PROPOSED MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM.

ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR FOR TO APPROVE THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES BUDGET.

STUDENTS, DO YOU HAVE AN ADVISORY VOTE FOR THE BOARD? PRO.

I FEEL LIKE YOU'RE A LITTLE WISHY WASHY.

GUYS, IT'S 2004.

OKAY. UM, ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD?

[01:20:01]

ALL RIGHT. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE BUDGET FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL STUDIES CURRICULUM ADOPTIONS, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 4 TO 0.

WE ALSO HAVE THE APPROVAL OF THE BUDGET FOR THE SEL CURRICULUM.

SO YEAH, IN SIMILAR FASHION, THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING CURRICULUM THAT YOU APPROVED DURING THE CONSENT AGENDA COMES WITH A COST, A SIX YEAR COST OF $156,095.

AND THEN THAT AGAIN WILL ALSO HAVE CONSUMABLES EVERY.

THE SEL CURRICULUM IS ALMOST IS ALL DIGITAL.

SO IT'S ALL DIGITAL LICENSES.

SO IT'S A SIX YEAR CONTRACT? YES. YEAH.

AND YEAH.

AND WELL, ABOUT A THIRD OF IT OR SO IS LIKE THE FIRST YEAR AND THEN IT'S KIND OF A RENEWAL COST FOR THE NEXT SIX YEARS.

YEAH. HAVE WE TYPICALLY WE'RE GETTING MORE AND MORE DIGITAL SUBSCRIPTIONS, RIGHT, WITH THOSE TIMEOUT LIMITS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT FIT OUR ADOPTION AND RENEWAL SCHEDULE? YEAH. I MEAN, WE'VE WE'RE WORKING PRETTY HARD TO BUILD A CURRICULUM CYCLE THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT THAT IS FUNDED, YOU KNOW, PRETTY MUCH A SIX YEAR CYCLE.

IT IS TRUE THAT WHEN WHEN WE BUY JUST WELL FOR EXAMPLE WITH THE SOCIAL STUDIES ADOPTION THAT INCLUDES BOTH PRINT AND DIGITAL, RIGHT.

THE PRINT WE YOU KNOW, ONCE WE PURCHASE THAT, WE OWN IT.

AND, YOU KNOW, JUST LIKE WE CAN HAVE BOOKS FROM 2004, THEN WE STILL USE THE DIGITAL LICENSES DO HAVE A TIME LIMIT ON THEM.

AND YOU KNOW, IT'S PRETTY MUCH A SIX YEAR LICENSE.

AND WHILE WE CAN WE CAN SOMETIMES EXTEND FOR TWO YEARS OR SO, SOMETIMES THEY'LL SAY, YOU KNOW, WE'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER TWO YEARS.

WE PAY AN ADDITIONAL PRICE FOR THAT.

BUT AT SOME POINT THEY JUST TURN THOSE SERVERS OFF AND THEN WE DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO ANY OF OUR ELECTRONIC MATERIALS.

YEAH, I GUESS THAT'S WHY I BROUGHT IT UP.

I'M JUST INTERESTED IN TERMS OF THE DAYS OF THE DAYS OF HAVING A CURRICULUM THAT LASTS FROM 2004, 15, 20 YEARS.

YEAH, WE'RE NOT THE ONLY DISTRICT.

NO, NO. DID THAT. THERE WERE A LOT OF YOU KNOW, WE ALL REMEMBER THE DAYS WITH YOUR MATH BOOK THAT WAS HAD ALL THE NAMES OF YOUR, YOU KNOW, YOUR SISTER AND YOUR BROTHER THAT WERE IN THERE, YOU KNOW, THAT YOUR OLDER BROTHER, ALL THE ANSWERS TOO.

YEAH. AND RIGHT.

THE ANSWERS WRITTEN IN THOSE DON'T EXIST ANYMORE BECAUSE THE MATERIALS TURN OVER AND YOU KNOW, IT'S CERTAINLY MAKES IT MORE EXPENSIVE FOR DISTRICTS AND IT MAKES IT MORE LUCRATIVE FOR THE TEXTBOOK COMPANIES.

YEAH. AND I'M SURE THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT.

I ALSO THINK THAT THAT'S WHY MICHELLE CAN PROBABLY EXPLAIN IT BETTER THAN I CAN.

BUT ANY TIME THERE'S A SUBSCRIPTION, WE HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR IT IN THE YEAR THAT WE'RE UTILIZING IT.

I HOPE I'M SAYING THAT RIGHT.

WE HAVE TO SET ASIDE THE MONEY, BUT THEN WE HAVE TO ACCOUNT FOR IT IN OUR YEARLY BUDGETS.

SO IT'S DEFINITELY A MORE COMPLICATED PROCESS AND IT ALSO TIES UP OUR MONIES FOR THAT TIME PERIOD.

RIGHT. RIGHT.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT THE REALIZATION FOR ME IS WE MAY HAVE TO ACTUALLY BUDGET FOR THE WAY WE DO CURRICULUM DIFFERENTLY THAN WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST.

ABSOLUTELY. WHERE IF WE ARE IN HARD TIMES, WE JUST WAITED.

RIGHT. RIGHT. BUT IF WAITING MEANS YOU GET NOTHING, THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO USE.

THAT DOESN'T WORK. IT DOESN'T WORK.

OKAY. THANK YOU. ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? I MOVE THE BOARD TO APPROVE THE BUDGET FOR THE PROPOSED K TO 8 SEL CURRICULUM? OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

WE HAVE A MOTION ON THE FLOOR TO APPROVE THE BUDGET FOR CHARACTER STRONG ADOPTION SEL CURRICULUM.

DO WE HAVE AN ADVISORY VOTE FROM OUR STUDENTS? PRO. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

AND SO ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES. 4 TO 0.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THAT BRINGS US TO FUTURE ITEMS AND BOARD EVENTS.

[12. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

ANYTHING THAT ANYONE WANTS TO SHARE.

THE ONLY ONE I WANT TO RE REEMPHASIZE WITH THE BOARD IS OUR BOARD RETREAT.

AND I KNOW IT'LL BE AFTER OUR NEXT.

WE'LL HAVE A BOARD MEETING PRIOR TO IT, BUT IT'S OUR NEXT BOARD MEETING IS THE 26TH AND THEN OUR BOARD RETREAT IS THE 28TH AND THAT WILL RUN FROM 4:30 TO 9:00 AND CURRENTLY ON THE AGENDA.

NOW, JUST SO YOU'RE AWARE, IS WE'LL BE DOING SOME GOVERNANCE WORK.

[01:25:04]

WE'RE LOOKING AT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN AND OUR GOALS, OUR BOARD GOALS.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE'LL BE HAVING A BOARD DISCUSSION AROUND THE PROS AND CONS OF RUNNING A BOND.

SO THAT'LL BE A LIVELY DISCUSSION AND I THINK WELL WORTH OUR TIME.

I'LL JUST SHARE THAT BOARD PREP IS WEDNESDAY THE 21ST.

I'M UNABLE TO ATTEND.

IF ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO COME IN MY PLACE.

I'M NOT AVAILABLE THAT DAY.

AND WITH THAT, I THINK WE ARE JUST ABOUT READY TO WRAP UP.

WE WILL BE GOING TO.

I'M SORRY. I HAVE TO SAY IT AT ALL.

GREAT. I CAN JUST ADJOURN THE MEETING.

I LOVE SANDY. THANK YOU.

OH, MY GOSH. AND WITH THAT, WE WILL ADJOURN THIS MEETING AT 5:26 P.M..

THANK YOU ALL FOR COMING AND ATTENDANCE, FOR UNDERSTANDING THE TIME CRUNCH THAT WE'RE UNDER.

WE APPRECIATE IT. GRADUATION TO GO TO.
