I'D LIKE TO WELCOME COLLEEN O'NEILL, PRESIDENT LINDA GELLING IS THE TREASURER AND KEN ROOT IS ALSO IN THE BUILDING AS THE VICE PRESIDENT. I BELIEVE SO NICE TO SEE OLD FRIENDS.

NOT THAT YOU'RE OLD, JUST I MET LONG TIME AGO; RIGHT? WELL, KEN MIGHT BE A LITTLE OLD, BUT.

YEAH, ALWAYS GOOD TO SEE YOU GUYS.

THE BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION HAS BEEN SUPPORTING THE STUDENTS AND SCHOOLS OF BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS SINCE 1994, AND THEY ARE COMMITTED TO SERVING THE COMMUNITY AS WELL. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE FOUNDATION HAS PROVIDED OVER HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN SUPPORT AND SUPPLIES TO THE STUDENTS OF BATTLEGROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

WE ARE HERE TO WELCOME PRESIDENT COLLEEN O'NEILL AND TREASURER LINDA GELLINGS, BECAUSE THEY ARE HAVE A SPECIAL PRESENTATION THEY'RE GOING TO TELL US ABOUT.

SO RATHER THAN ME GIVING AWAY THE BIG NEWS, I'LL LET YOU GUYS COME UP AND TALK ABOUT IT.

THANK YOU. WELCOME.

WELCOME. MAN, IT'S NICE TO BE OUT.

I FEEL LIKE THE CAGED BIRD YOU GET TO FLY, YOU KNOW? GOOD EVENING. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO RECOGNIZE SHERRY DALEY, WHO SERVES AS THE DISTRICT REPRESENTATIVE ON OUR I DIDN'T MEAN TO FORGET.

AND JACKIE MADDOX IS ALSO ON OUR BOARD.

SHE REPRESENTS THE BOARD, THE SCHOOL DIRECTOR.

SO WE HAVE LOTS OF US.

FIRST OF ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE BOARD FOR PUTTING TOGETHER A BASKET FOR OUR AUCTION.

[00:05:05]

IT WAS GREATLY APPRECIATED AND WE HAD OUR BEST FUNDRAISER EVER.

WE GROSSED OVER 52,000 THIS YEAR, WHICH WAS AMAZING.

AND SORA, SORA HELPED TO SELL SORA AND RICARDO HELPED TO SELL BEADS.

SELL BEADS AND AND FLASHING RINGS.

AND WE HAD OUR BEST SALES ON THOSE AS WELL.

SO IT WAS IT WAS REALLY GOOD.

IT WAS FUN TO SEE PEOPLE.

SO I THINK DENNY LIKES TO SEE US BECAUSE EVERY TIME WE COME, WE KIND OF BRING MONEY OR WE TALK ABOUT THE MONEY WHERE WE'RE PROVIDING.

AND I THINK THAT OUR 500,000 LINDA AND I WERE JUST KIND OF LOOKING AT EACH OTHER.

THAT'S PROBABLY ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS OLD.

WE'RE PROBABLY CLOSE TO 750,000 AT THIS POINT IN THAT TIME.

WE IT'S BEEN A, EVEN THROUGH THE PANDEMIC, WE IT WAS AMAZING TO SEE HOW KIND OF I THINK THE FOOD DRIVE PROBABLY WAS.

OH, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

43,000 BOXES OF FOOD.

UPDATE OUR TOTAL.

YEAH. WE NEED YOU TO.

YEAH. YEAH.

SO IN THE PAST AND SOMETIMES WE BRING THIS GIANT CHECK AND WE PRESENT THIS GIANT CHECK, I THINK THE LAST ONE WE DID WAS FOR ABOUT 20,000 WHEN WE GOT A GRANT FOR TO HELP.

WITH THE TECHNOLOGY AS WE ARE MOVING INTO THE PANDEMIC, BUT WE ARE DOING LESS OF THOSE GIANT CHECKS AND WE'RE DOING MORE ABOUT GRANTS.

AND SO THIS IS ABOUT A $9,000 GRANT FOR THIS YEAR, WHICH ACTUALLY IS A REPEAT OF LAST YEAR.

AND IT'S MONEY.

AND LINDA IS GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT IT TO FOR THE PRINCIPALS USE.

AND SO I JUST WANTED TO KIND OF SHARE WHY THE CHECK VERSUS THE GRANTS.

AND IT IS REALLY ABOUT WHEN WE PROVIDE FUNDS DIRECTLY THAT GO INTO THE DISTRICT'S BUDGET.

THOSE DOLLARS ARE LOCKED IN BY WHAT THE DISTRICT IS LEGALLY ALLOWED TO USE THEIR BUDGET FOR, AND WE PROVIDE A LOT OF HELP AND SERVICES FOR THINGS THE DISTRICT CANNOT DO.

AND WHEN IT COMES TO MENTAL HEALTH AND STUDENT NEEDS AND GAS CARDS FOR PARENTS OR SOME OF OUR STUDENTS TO GET TO WORK OR I MEAN, IT GOES ON AND ON AND ON.

AND SO WE WHEN WE DO THE GRANTS, WE THAT WAY, THERE'S A LOT MORE FLEXIBILITY IN HOW WHOMEVER IS RECEIVING THOSE GRANTS CAN USE THE MONEY.

AND SO SOMETIMES THE GRANTS THEY THE PRINCIPALS MIGHT CHOOSE TO HAVE IT ACTUALLY PUT INTO THEIR BUDGET BECAUSE WHAT THEY'RE PLANNING TO SPEND IT ON IS AN EXPENDITURE THAT THE OR THEY CAN DO WITHIN THE BUDGET.

AND MOST OFTEN, THOUGH, THEY CHOOSE TO MAKE US THE PURCHASERS.

SO I'M GOING TO LET LINDA TELL YOU SOME OF THE THINGS THAT THESE GRANTS HAVE BEEN SUPPORTING OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

WE'RE IN GREEN BECAUSE WE'RE THE MONEY PEOPLE.

YEAH. I JUST.

I WAS THINKING ABOUT THAT WHILE COLLEEN WAS TALKING, SO MY HUSBAND WAS TEASING ME.

OH, I LIKE YOUR GREEN SHIRT.

THEY SAID WE'RE MONEY.

WELL, I'LL USE THE PRINCIPALS GRANTS THAT WE STARTED LAST YEAR IS A GOOD EXAMPLE.

SO I'D SAY ALMOST 85% WERE USED FOR EITHER RECOGNIZING THEIR STAFF AT THEIR SCHOOL OR HELPING WITH THE PBIS REWARDS PROGRAM.

AND SO THEY EITHER GOT DIFFERENT GIFT CARDS FOR PBIS OR THEY GOT, YOU KNOW, MAYBE ERASERS OR SOMETHING FOR KIDS YOUNGER.

AND FOR STAFF, THEY USUALLY IN MAY, THEY HELP CELEBRATE WITH THEIR STAFF, NATIONAL EDUCATION, TEACHERS RECOGNITION. AND SO A LOT OF IT GOES FOR THAT.

SOME OF IT GOES FOR, YOU KNOW, THINGS THAT ARE NEEDED IN THE CLASSROOM.

AND WHEN THEY GET THE GRANTS, WE CAN, LIKE COLEMAN SAID, WE CAN GIVE IT TO THEM THROUGH A DONATION INTO THEIR DONATION ACCOUNT WITH THE DISTRICT SO THEY CAN MAKE PURCHASES THAT WAY IF THEY NEED TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT THEY'VE PICKED OUT.

LIKE I THINK ONE SCHOOL LAST YEAR, I THINK THEY HAD MICROPHONES OR AND SOME STUFF FOR THE PE TEACHER THAT THEY WANTED TO GET.

THEY ORDERED IT THROUGH THE WAREHOUSE, BUT THE WAREHOUSE BILLS US.

SO THAT'S A WAY THAT WE HAVE A CLOSE COOPERATION THAT HELPS THE FOUNDATION, THE SCHOOLS AND THE ADMINISTRATION SUPPORT IS

[00:10:03]

HELPING US ALL TO.

WE CAN PURCHASE ITEMS DIRECTLY.

SOMETIMES THEY BUY THE ITEMS AND THEN PROVIDE ME WITH THE RECEIPTS AND THEN I REIMBURSE THEM.

SO IT'S REAL FLEXIBLE.

LAST YEAR EVEN DID SOME COSTCO CARD, GOT A GIFT CARD SO THEY COULD GO TO COSTCO AND GET THEIR STUFF.

THEY WEREN'T FOR SURE, YOU KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO GET.

AND THEN THEY BRING ME THIS RECEIPT AFTERWARDS BECAUSE WE REQUIRE THAT FOR OUR CHARTER AND IRIS AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF.

SO ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT? ANY QUESTIONS FOR US? I'D SAY ALMOST ALL THAT STUFF THAT WE BUY WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED BY THE DISTRICT EXCEPT FOR ONE SCHOOL THAT BOUGHT THE THINGS FOR THE PE TEACHER.

NO, BUT I APPRECIATE YOU EXPLAINING THAT, EVEN IF IT'S JUST TO THE PEOPLE IN THE ROOM TO UNDERSTAND HOW THOSE SCHOOL FINANCES WORK AND WHAT THE LIMITATIONS ARE.

AND I KNOW OUR SCHOOL, PTA AND PTOS ALSO REALLY HELP WITH THOSE THINGS THAT WE KNOW ARE GOOD PRACTICES.

BUT SOMETIMES THE RULES ABOUT BUDGETS PREVENT YOU FROM BUYING CERTAIN THINGS.

SO IT'S NICE. THE GIFT OF PUBLIC FUNDS REALLY LIMITS TO NOT BE ABLE TO LIKE BUY STUFF, TO GIVE AWAY TO THE TEACHERS OR THE OTHER STAFF DURING APPRECIATIONS OR EVEN TO THE KIDS FOR REWARDS FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR, WHICH SEEMS SAD, BUT THAT'S WHERE THE FOUNDATION FILLS THAT GAP BETWEEN WHAT THE EDUCATIONAL NEED IS FOR THE STATE AND WHAT AN OUTSIDE GROUP LIKE THE FOUNDATION CAN DO TO SUPPORT THE WORK OF ALL THE EDUCATORS AND BATTLE GROUND.

SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

AND I KNOW JACKIE PROVIDES YOU WITH A LOT OF UPDATES ON WHAT'S HAPPENING AND WHAT'S GOING ON, BUT WE WOULD ALSO APPRECIATE IT IF ANY TIME YOU'RE OUT AND ABOUT IN THE COMMUNITY AND AN EVENT OR SOMETHING AND THEY START ASKING YOU ABOUT THE DISTRICT TO SAY, HEY, DID YOU KNOW WE HAVE A REALLY ACTIVE FOUNDATION THAT SUPPORTS OUR SCHOOLS? AND, YOU KNOW, WE WERE DOING REALLY GOOD AT GETTING US OUT THERE.

AND THEN THE PANDEMIC HIT AND BUSINESSES CLOSED AND ALL KINDS OF STUFF HAPPENED.

AND SO NOW WE'RE KIND OF REBUILDING AND AND SLOWLY TRYING TO GET OUR PRESENCE KNOWN ONCE AGAIN STRONGLY.

AND I THINK OUR EVENT SHOWED THAT WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

AND IT WAS A GREAT EVENT AND WE HAD A GOOD TIME.

SO THANK YOU.

AND ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR SCHOOLS IS WHAT WE LOOK FORWARD TO DOING.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, LINDA. WE HAVE A SECOND RECOGNITION TIED.

THIS IS ANOTHER GOOD ONE. THE KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

YES, THE KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

WE HAVE MANY SCHOOLS IN OUR DISTRICT PARTICIPATE, BUT WE HAVE WITH US MOLLY SHANNON.

SHE'S THE YOUTH MARKET DIRECTOR WITH THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.

AND RATHER THAN ME, STEAL ANY THUNDER, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO ALLISON TUCHARDT, OUR DIRECTOR OF CURRICULUM INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT.

AND ALLISON OVERSEES OUR HEALTH AND FITNESS PROGRAMS. THANK YOU. OKAY, SO WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION THIS EVENING, AND WE HAVE BEEN PARTNERING WITH THEM FOR MANY YEARS.

WE TRIED TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY, MANY WAS, AND WE WENT BACK SO FAR THAT WE DON'T KNOW EXACTLY.

THEY DO BOTH EDUCATION AND FUNDRAISING.

AND WE DID FIND OUT THAT OVER THE COURSE OF OUR YEARS WITH THEM THAT THE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES OF BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAS RAISED OVER $800,000 FOR THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION. WOW.

SO WE ARE HERE TODAY TO LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT WHAT IT IS THAT THEY ARE DOING WITH OUR SCHOOLS AND THE PARTNERSHIPS THAT WE HAVE.

SO I WILL TURN THIS OVER TO MOLLY SHANNON.

OK. HELLO.

I AM SO EXCITED TO BE HERE TO TALK TO YOU GUYS.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

WE LOVE WORKING WITH BATTLE GROUND SCHOOLS.

ALL THE PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS THAT WE GET TO WORK WITH HERE ARE VERY AMAZING AND VERY SPECIAL AND YOU ARE ONE OF OUR TOP DISTRICTS, SO I APPRECIATE IT.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW WHAT THE KIDS HEART CHALLENGE IS, IT IS A SERVICE LEARNING PROGRAM THAT WE DO WITH SCHOOLS, TEACHING KIDS HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR OWN HEARTS AND HOW TO HELP OTHERS.

SO ONE OF OUR MAIN HEART HEROES IS THIS LITTLE BOY, FINN, WHO WAS BORN WITH MULTIPLE SERIOUS HEART DEFECTS.

AND HE'S HAD 18 HEART SURGERIES NOW, INCLUDING TWO OPEN HEART SURGERIES.

SO HE'S VERY SPECIAL TO US.

AND WE HAVE CREATED FINN'S MISSION, WHICH I'LL SHOW YOU, THAT THE STUDENTS GET TO GO ALONG DURING KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

AND A LOT OF YOUR SCHOOLS THAT HAVE BEEN PARTICIPATING FOR MANY YEARS HAVE GOT TO SEE FINN GROW UP FROM A BABY TO THE SECOND GRADER THAT HE IS NOW.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE FUNDS AND RESEARCH AND MEDICINE THAT WE GET TO DO CONTRIBUTE TO HIM BEING A HAPPY AND HEALTHY KID.

[00:15:09]

SO EVERY YEAR WE HAVE A DIFFERENT THEME.

AND THIS YEAR OUR THEME IS TO HAVE THE KIDS BE THE TORCH SO THEY LEARN ABOUT HEART HEALTH IN THEIR SCHOOL, AND THEN THEY TAKE THAT HOME TO THEIR FAMILIES AND THEN THEY SPREAD THAT THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

SO WE ALWAYS HAVE DIFFERENT HEART HERO CHARACTERS THAT REMIND THEM OF THINGS THEY CAN DO FOR THEIR OWN HEARTS, LIKE STAYING AWAY FROM VAPING AND TOBACCO, DRINKING WATER, BEING THOUGHTFUL, SLEEPING MORE SO YOU MAY HAVE HEARD OF JUMP ROPE FOR HEART, WHICH WAS OUR PROGRAM WITH SCHOOLS MANY YEARS AGO, AND THEN WE TRANSITIONED INTO KIDS HEART CHALLENGE TO KIND OF INCORPORATE MORE OF THAT WHOLE CHILD.

A HAPPY HEART IS A HEALTHY HEART.

SO WE COMBINED BOTH OF THOSE BEING KIND, HELPING OTHERS.

SO YOU CAN SEE FINN'S MISSION KIND OF GUIDES THEM ALONG AND THEY LEARN REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS LIKE HANDS ONLY CPR, THE WARNING SIGNS OF STROKE.

SO THEY ARE ABLE TO HELP OTHERS BY LEARNING THOSE LIFESAVING SKILLS, SHARING THAT WITH THEIR FAMILY, AND ALSO THROUGH THE DONATIONS THAT THEY RAISE IF THEIR FAMILIES CHOOSE TO DO THE FUNDRAISING PIECE.

SO YOU HAVE MANY SCHOOLS THAT PARTICIPATE.

MAPLE GROVE, TUKES VALLEY RIVER HOMELINK, PLEASANT VALLEY, DAYBREAK, CAPTAIN STRONG, GLENWOOD HEIGHTS, CHIEF UMTUCH MIDDLE SCHOOL, BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

AND JOINING THIS YEAR IS LAURIN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO WE LOVE WORKING WITH ALL OF THEM, AND WE ARE CONSTANTLY TRYING TO INCREASE OUR REACH TO THE FAMILIES AND STUDENTS THAT YOU HAVE HERE.

LAST YEAR YOU HAD 600 STUDENTS WHO ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE TO EITHER BE KIND OR BE ACTIVE AND PRACTICE THAT THROUGHOUT THEIR KIDS HEART CHALLENGE.

LIKE I SAID, THEY LEARNED HANDS ONLY CPR, THE WARNING SIGNS OF STROKE.

WE WERE ABLE TO GIVE BACK ALMOST $4,000 TO YOUR PROGRAMS TO BUY RECESS OR EQUIPMENT.

AND BECAUSE YOUR COMMUNITY IS SO GENEROUS, WE WERE ABLE TO IMPACT OVER 1000 LIVES.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THAT.

AND WE HAVE A COUPLE OF SCHOOLS THAT SET A NEW SCHOOL RECORD LAST YEAR.

SO I WOULD LIKE TO BRING UP OUR PEOPLE THAT ARE HERE FROM MAPLE GROVE AND RIVER HOMELINK IF YOU WANT TO COME UP FOR A MOMENT.

LAURA SCHROEDER, ANDREA SPERRY, MATT KESSLER AND SUSAN FROM RIVER HOMELINK AND MAPLE GROVE.

SO THEY BOTH DID AMAZING JOB LAST YEAR.

THANK YOU SO MUCH AND CONGRATULATIONS.

THANK YOU, GUYS. YEAH.

SORRY. AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT THEIR AWARDS LOOK LIKE.

THEY'RE ALREADY FRAMED AND DROPPED OFF TO THEIR SCHOOLS.

SO THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

GREAT JOB. AND AT THE END, THAT'S ALL I HAVE FOR YOU GUYS.

THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME AND FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

WE LOVE PARTICIPATING AND WORKING WITH EVERYONE IN YOUR DISTRICT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. ANY QUESTIONS FOR.

HOW DO WE GET MORE OF THE SCHOOLS INVOLVED? THAT IS A GREAT QUESTION.

IT CAN BE RUN BY ANYONE IN THE SCHOOL.

WE USUALLY LIKE TO START BY MEETING WITH THE PRINCIPAL SINCE THEY KIND OF KNOW, YOU KNOW, WHAT THEIR SCHOOL HAS THE CAPACITY FOR AND WHO IN THEIR SCHOOL MIGHT BE PASSIONATE ABOUT IT. BUT IT CAN BE RAN BY COUNSELORS, CLASSROOM TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, VICE PRINCIPALS, OFTEN TEACHERS, SINCE IT GOES SO WELL WITH THE CURRICULUM THAT THEY ALREADY USE.

BUT IF YOU KNOW ANYONE OUT OF SCHOOL JUST REACHING OUT TO THEM AND I'M HAPPY TO MEET WITH ANYONE AND SEE HOW IT COULD WORK FOR THEM.

ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MOLLY.

THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH AMERICA [INAUDIBLE].

THANK YOU. YES, I THINK IT'S A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WORKING BETTER TOGETHER.

SO LIVE UP TO THAT.

OKAY. NEXT UP IS OUR COMMUNICATIONS, AND WE'RE GOING TO START WITH OUR STUDENT VOICE.

[6. Communications]

SOUNDS LIKE WE MIGHT HAVE TWO STUDENTS HERE.

SO OUR FIRST ONE IS MELODY.

AND IF YOU WANT TO COME UP TO THE MICROPHONE, REINTRODUCE YOURSELF.

THAT WAY YOU CAN SAY YOUR LAST NAME CORRECTLY SO I CAN HEAR IT AS WELL.

SAY SOMETHING. YEAH, YEAH.

AND, MELODY, I'M GOING TO DO JUST A QUICK THING.

I RUSHED THROUGH THE INTRODUCTION JUST A LITTLE BIT.

IF THERE'S ANYBODY IN THE ROOM THAT HASN'T HEARD, WE HAVE SOME WATER OFF, WHICH MEANS THE RESTROOMS MAY NOT WORK.

AND SO HOPEFULLY THE MEETING WILL MOVE ALONG QUICKLY AND IT WON'T BE A BIG DEAL.

BUT YEAH, I'D LIKE TO JUST TAKE A MOMENT.

THIS IS MISS MELODY [INAUDIBLE] AND MELODY STARTED THE LATINO STUDENT UNION IN NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR AS A JUNIOR AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE WAS FEATURED IN AN ARTICLE THAT CHRIS BROWN DID A WONDERFUL ARTICLE.

AND THIS YEAR, THE GROUP, MELODY'S GROUP, HAS HELPED TO ORGANIZE SEVERAL ACTIVITIES TO RECOGNIZE HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH.

AND AS A SENIOR, MELODY IS ALSO WORKING TO BUILD UP THE NEXT GENERATION OF STUDENT LEADERSHIP AT THE SCHOOL.

ONE OF THE THINGS SHE WANTS TO ENSURE IS THAT HER LEGACY CONTINUES AND THAT THE GOOD WORK THAT'S BEING DONE CONTINUES TO EXPAND REPRESENTATION FOR LATINO, HISPANIC

[00:20:09]

AND OTHER MINORITY GROUPS IN BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO, MELODY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.

WE WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE WORK THAT YOU HAVE DONE, RECOGNIZE THE WORK THAT YOU'VE DONE, BUT ALSO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.

LISTEN TO YOUR THOUGHTS AND IDEAS SO THAT WE CAN ACKNOWLEDGE AND CELEBRATE THE RICH DIVERSITY OF WHAT WHAT OUR STUDENT REPRESENTATION HERE IS IN BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS. SO, AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

YES, THANK YOU.

GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS MELODY [INAUDIBLE], AND I'D LIKE TO START BY GIVING A LITTLE BACKGROUND OF WHO I AM AND MY UPBRINGING.

MY PARENTS IMMIGRATED FROM EL SALVADOR IN THE EARLY NINETIES AND THEY LIVED IN LA WHERE MY DAD BECAME A TRUCK DRIVER AND MY MOM WORKED IN A FACTORY SEWING CLOTHES.

AND THEN AFTER A COUPLE OF YEARS, THEY DECIDED TO MOVE TO BATTLE GROUND WASHINGTON, WHERE WE HAVE LIVED FOR OVER 20 YEARS NOW.

LIVING IN THIS COMMUNITY HAS BEEN A BLESSING, BUT IT ALSO HAD ITS DIFFICULTIES.

AS A LATINA STUDENT, IT'S HARD FOR ME TO CONNECT WITH OTHER STUDENTS SOMETIMES.

WHEN I GOT TO HIGH SCHOOL, I WAS SO EXCITED TO BE IN A BIGGER GROUP OF STUDENTS TO SEE MORE COLOR.

BUT I WAS DISCOURAGED WHEN I DIDN'T SEE ANY TYPE OF MINORITY REPRESENTATION, AND THAT'S WHY I DECIDED TO CREATE A LATINO STUDENT UNION LAST YEAR TO BRING MORE REPRESENTATION TO THE COMMUNITY OF COLOR AT PRAIRIE AND TO UNITE THE LATINO STUDENTS AT PRAIRIE AS WELL, AND ALSO TO EDUCATE OTHER NON-LATINO STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED ABOUT OUR CULTURE.

I'D BE LYING IF I DIDN'T SAY MAKING THE CLUB CAME WITH ITS CHALLENGES.

THERE WAS TIMES WHEN STUDENTS WOULD COME UP TO ME AND MAKE BLATANT COMMENTS LIKE, WELL, WHY DON'T WE HAVE A WHITE STUDENT UNION? IT WAS MOMENTS LIKE THIS WHERE I REALIZED HOW IMPACTFUL THIS CLUB COULD BE AND HOW MUCH IT WAS NEEDED FOR THE GROWING MINORITY POPULATION IN OUR DISTRICT. IN THE CLUB, WE CREATED DIFFERENT TYPES OF EVENTS, LIKE MOVIE NIGHTS WHERE WE WATCH CULTURALLY RELEVANT MOVIES.

WE ARE PLANNING A POTLUCK FOR LATINOS OR SORRY, FOR HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, AND WE ALSO LIKE TO PLAY CULTURALLY RELEVANT GAMES SOMETIMES REALLY JUST MAKING A SAFE SPACE FOR LATINOS ON CAMPUS.

AS THIS IS MY LAST YEAR ON CAMPUS, I'M NOW TAKING THE TIME TO PASS THE TORCH TO THE YOUNGER STUDENTS AND JUST SEEING HOW PASSIONATE THEY ARE ABOUT OUR LATINA DAD AND HOW PASSIONATE THEY ARE INTO SPREADING OUR CULTURE ON CAMPUS IS SO AMAZING TO SEE, AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY CREATE IN THE RECENT YEARS THAT ARE TO COME FOR HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, WE DO PLAN TO MAKE A POTLUCK AND UNFORTUNATELY WE WEREN'T ABLE TO DO THE LATINO LEADERSHIP NORTHWEST CONFERENCE, BUT HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WE CAN ATTEND THAT.

IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT FOR ME TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT ALTHOUGH HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH IS ONLY ONE MONTH LONG, FOR US, IT'S 365 DAYS OUT OF THE YEAR.

AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO RECOGNIZE THAT.

AND ALTHOUGH THIS TIME IS GREAT TO EDUCATE OURSELVES ABOUT LATINO CULTURE, IT'S ALSO IMPORTANT TO TAKE ACTION AS WELL AND TO HELP STUDENTS LIKE ME AND YOUNGER STUDENTS TO REALLY SUCCEED.

IN SCHOOL. THIS MIGHT INCLUDE DIVERSIFYING AND PROVIDING MORE EQUITY WITH FACULTY MEMBERS AND ALSO PROVIDING MORE LATINO ORGANIZATIONS AND LINKING THEM UP WITH MORE WITH THE LATINO FAMILIES IN OUR DISTRICT.

AGAIN, I'D LIKE TO THANK YOU ALL FOR LETTING ME SPEAK TO YOU TODAY.

AND YEAH, THANK YOU, MELANIE.

ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? I JUST HAVE A COMMENT. THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH FOR HEADING THIS UP.

DO YOU FEEL LIKE IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE AT PRAIRIE? YES, I DEFINITELY DO.

THE LSU WAS A CATALYST FOR STARTING THE BIPOC CLUB AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN START OTHER STUDENT UNIONS AS WELL, WHICH IS SO IMPORTANT AS AGAIN, WE ARE GROWING IN MINORITY REPRESENTATION IN OUR DISTRICT, WHICH IS AMAZING TO SEE.

THAT'S GREAT. GOOD WORK.

YOU MENTIONED SOME CHALLENGES, WHICH I THINK I WOULD EXPECT JUST BECAUSE IT'S NEW, RIGHT? YOU HAVE TO LEARN NEW THINGS.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE WAS JUST IN FORMING THE GROUP AS TO GET IT STARTED? LIKE, HOW DID YOU WORK WITH THE ADMINISTRATION? WHO DID YOU GO TO TO MENTOR?

[00:25:01]

HOW DID YOU PLAN THIS? SO TO MY KNOWLEDGE, WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY LATINO TEACHERS AT MY SCHOOL.

SO I THOUGHT THE NEXT BEST OPTION WAS TO TALK WITH THE ESL TEACHER, MRS. SAGER, AND SHE'S BEEN AN AMAZING ADVISOR WHO HELPED ME START THIS CLUB.

AND JUST TALKING TO OUR ISB ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, MR. MELO, AND WHAT STEPS I NEED TO TAKE TO MAKE THIS CLUB A THING AND IN ABOUT A MONTH I GOT IT STARTED AND THAT WILL ALMOST BE A YEAR IN NOVEMBER. IT'S AMAZING.

YOU MENTIONED CULTURALLY RELEVANT GAMES.

CAN YOU GIVE AN EXAMPLE? YEAH, WE PLAY LOTERIA A LOT, WHICH IS LIKE MEXICAN BINGO, WHERE LIKE ALL THE, INSTEAD OF NUMBERS, WE HAVE KIND OF THESE PICTURES THAT REPRESENT OUR HERITAGE LIKE DIFFERENT FLAGS OR DIFFERENT FRUITS THAT WE EAT IN CENTRAL AMERICA.

THANK YOU. WELL, MELODY, AGAIN, WE JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

A WONDERFUL REPRESENTATION OF WHAT STUDENTS CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

SO WE'RE VERY THANKFUL FOR YOUR EFFORTS.

AND IF THERE'S EVER ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO TO SUPPORT YOUR WORK, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH OUT.

ALL RIGHT. ALL THE BEST TO YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MELODY.

THANK YOU. OKAY, HERE, WE'VE GOT AN ASB REPRESENTATIVE.

HEY, GO ON UP.

HELLO. I'LL JUST REINTRODUCE MYSELF.

I'M TAYLA [INAUDIBLE], AND I'M THIS YEAR'S ASB PRESIDENT AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL.

I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE HERE WITH ME, BUT SHE COULDN'T GET A RIDE.

SO IT'S JUST ME TODAY.

AND I JUST CAME TO SHARE SOME OF THE NEW UPDATES THAT I HAVE FOR EVENTS THAT HAVE PASSED RECENTLY, AS WELL AS WHAT'S COMING UP IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS AT OUR SCHOOL. I JUST WANTED TO START BY SAYING OUR PROGRAM IN ASB HAS GROWN SO MUCH.

WE WENT FROM 14 STUDENTS LAST YEAR AND ALMOST HALF OF THAT BEING SENIORS TO NOW HAVING 32 STUDENTS IN OUR CLASS THIS YEAR.

SO IT'S A REALLY FULL CLASS AND WE HAVE MORE PEOPLE WANTING TO JOIN.

SO. ONE THING THAT MY ASB ADVISOR HAS SAID SHE WANTS TO DO IN THE FUTURE IS POSSIBLY LOOK AT DOING TWO DIFFERENT CLASS PERIODS AND HAVING AN ASB CLASS, WHICH IS ALL OF THE ELECTIVE REPRESENTATIVES, AS WELL AS HAVING LEADERSHIP CLASS FOR OTHER STUDENTS WHO ARE HUNGRY TO GET INVOLVED IN SCHOOL LED EVENTS AND JUST LEADERSHIP IN GENERAL AND WANTING TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THAT.

SO THAT WILL BE A REALLY COOL THING, TOO, FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO SEE AS MY BROTHER IS COMING UP INTO HIGH SCHOOL.

HE'S A FRESHMAN THIS YEAR, SO I'M EXCITED TO SEE HOW THAT CONTINUES EXPANDING.

AND ALONG WITH MORE STUDENT INVOLVEMENT, WE'VE ALSO GOT A LOT MORE STAFF INVOLVEMENT.

WE JUST FINISHED HIRING ON THREE NEW ADVISORS FOR [INAUDIBLE] CLASS.

WE JUST PASSED MINUTES FOR THE STIPEND FOR OUR SOPHOMORE CLASS ADVISOR.

AND YEAH, SO IT WAS REALLY COOL TO BE ABLE TO SEE THAT PROCESS.

AND NOW WE HAVE MORE OUTREACH INTO OUR STAFF, SO HOPEFULLY WE'LL HAVE MORE BUY IN WITH CHAPERONS AND JUST GETTING THE ADULTS AT OUR SCHOOL INVOLVED AT EVENTS THAT WE'RE RUNNING BECAUSE WE WANT TO SEE REPRESENTATION IN ALL ASPECTS, BOTH STUDENT AND STAFF ALIKE.

SO THAT'S REALLY EXCITING ALSO BECAUSE WE HAVE SUCH A BIG CLASS THIS YEAR.

ONE THING THAT WE STARTED RE IMPLEMENTING IN OUR CLASS IS HAVING SET COMMITTEES, SO WE HAVE AN ACTIVITIES, RECOGNITION, PUBLICITY AND A NEW COMMITTEE THAT I CREATED THIS YEAR AS A SOCIAL COMMITTEE BECAUSE A BIG THING THAT WE'VE BEEN TRYING TO FOCUS ON IS COMMUNITY.

SO COMMUNITY WITHIN OUR SCHOOL AS WELL AS COMMUNITY OUTSIDE OF OUR SCHOOL.

AND SO ONE THING THAT THE SOCIAL COMMITTEE HAS BEEN HEADING UP IS DOING LUNCH GAMES EVERY OTHER WEDNESDAY AT OUR SCHOOL.

SO WE JUST LIKE PLAY A LITTLE GAMES.

LAST WEEK WE DID LIKE THIS BOTTLE GAME WHERE THERE'S LIKE A BOTTLE IN BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND YOU JUST LIKE TOUCH DIFFERENT PARTS OF YOUR BODY.

AND THEN WHEN THEY SAY BOTTLE, LIKE YOU REACH FOR THE BOTTLE.

AND I DON'T KNOW, IT'S JUST LIKE LITTLE SILLY GAMES, BUT IT'S REALLY COOL TO SEE STUDENTS THAT YOU DON'T REALLY SEE INVOLVED AT EVENTS OR GOING TO DANCES, GETTING EXCITED TO DO SOMETHING WITH THEIR SCHOOL.

AND IF YOU WIN THOSE TYPES OF GAMES, THEY ALL COUNT AS SPIRIT POINTS.

SO SPIRIT WEEKS AS WELL AS THESE SPIRIT POINTS THAT STUDENTS CAN EARN ALL GO TOWARDS OUR COLOR WARS AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SO IT'S A GREAT WAY TO BE REPRESENTING YOUR CLASS AS WELL.

AND WE'VE GOT A LOT OF BUY IN SO FAR.

SO I THINK IT'S GOING WELL AS WELL AS THAT.

WE RECENTLY FINISHED OUR HOMECOMING WEEK, WHICH WAS OUR HOMECOMING WAS ON SEPTEMBER 17TH, AND WE SOLD OVER 700 TICKETS, WHICH WAS CRAZY BECAUSE THAT'S LIKE THE MOST TICKETS WE'VE SOLD IN YEARS, OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC.

AND ALONG WITH THAT, WE WERE HAVING A SUPER SUCCESSFUL SPIRIT WEEK AND ASSEMBLY AND WE HAD A LOT OF REALLY GREAT FEEDBACK FROM STAFF AND

[00:30:04]

STUDENTS. SO THAT WAS REALLY COOL.

AND COMING UP, WE HAVE TRUNK OR TREAT, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR SEASONAL EVENTS OF THE YEAR.

THAT'S GOING TO BE ON OCTOBER 21ST FROM 4:30 TO 6:00.

AND IT'S A COMMUNITY EVENT THAT'S FREE FOR PEOPLE AT OUR ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOLERS TO COME WITH THEIR FAMILIES.

AND IF THEY WANT TO VOTE ON THEIR FAVORITE TRUNK THAT'S DECORATED BY STUDENTS AND CLUBS, THEN THEY JUST BRING SOCKS AND EACH PAIR OF SOCKS IS WORTH ONE VOTE.

SO THE MORE SOCKS YOU BRING, THE MORE VOTES YOU'RE ABLE TO PUT TOWARDS A TRUNK.

AND WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR SCRC COORDINATOR TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THOSE BACK TO PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WHO NEED ESSENTIALS LIKE SOCKS.

SO THAT'S HOW WE'RE RUNNING THAT.

JUST IN GENERAL, I WAS REALLY PASSIONATE, LIKE I SAID, ABOUT DOING COMMUNITY EVENTS THIS YEAR.

SO WE'LL HAVE A SIMILAR TYPE OF THING GOING ON IN THE WINTER I WANT TO DO.

I HAVE THIS EVENT ENVISIONED THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER WHERE WE DO THIS HUGE COMMUNITY EVENT WHERE ALL OF OUR DIFFERENT CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES ARE ABLE TO SET UP DIFFERENT LIKE BOOTHS THAT ADVERTISE THEIR CLUBS AND IT'S KIND OF JUST LIKE A BIG, LIKE WINTER WONDERLAND WHERE KIDS CAN COME IN AND BASICALLY NO CHARGES AT ALL TO COME AND ENJOY SOMETHING IN THE WINTER, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF THE POVERTY RATE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

IT WAS IMPORTANT TO ME THAT WE COULD HAVE ALL OF OUR FUTURE FALCONS BE ABLE TO COME TO A SAFE SPACE AND CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAY SEASON WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF THE STRESS OFF OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON, WHICH IS ALREADY REALLY STRESSFUL TIME FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE THAT THEY CAN COME AND MAKE SURE THAT THEIR KIDS ARE HAVING A GOOD TIME.

SO THAT'S ANOTHER THING THAT'LL BE COMING UP AND WE'LL TALK MORE ABOUT IT.

AT A FUTURE BOARD MEETING ONCE THE IDEA HAS BEEN MORE FLESHED OUT.

AND I ALSO JUST WANTED TO RECOGNIZE A FEW STUDENTS FROM OUR CLASS, KELLY [INAUDIBLE] AS WELL AS MELINA PHAM.

THEY HAVE BEEN REALLY HEADING UP A LOT OF OUR PUBLICITY THIS YEAR, AND THEY CREATED A TIK TOK ANNOUNCING OUR HOMECOMING THEME THAT HAS NOW BEEN VIEWED OVER 400,000 TIMES AND HAS OVER 100,000 LIKES.

SO IT WENT PRETTY VIRAL AND THAT WAS REALLY COOL AND EXCITING TO SEE.

THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING IN OUR SCHOOL HAS SO MUCH MORE OUTREACH THAN EVEN JUST THE COMMUNITY OUTSIDE OF PRAIRIE.

BUT LIKE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, THERE'S PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING THAT THEY WANT TO COME TO OUR SCHOOL AND THAT WE'RE DOING COOL THINGS.

SO IT'S REALLY EXCITING TO SEE THAT THE HARD WORK THAT WE'RE DOING WITHIN OUR CLASS IS PAYING OFF, AND I'M JUST REALLY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE SHARING THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING WITH YOU GUYS. YEAH, THAT'S ME.

THANK YOU, TAYLA. THANK YOU.

YOUR ENTHUSIASM IS INFECTIOUS.

YEAH. YEAH.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

SO YOU WANT TO HAVE A VOICE? SO THIS WEEK OR THIS SATURDAY IS OUR HOMECOMING AT BATTLE GROUND.

AND WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

WE'RE HAVING OUR HOMECOMING SPIRIT WEEK, AND FRIDAY IS GOING TO BE OUR FIRST.

I'M SORRY. MY GOSH. I GOT DISTRACTED OUR FIRST ASSEMBLY IN ALMOST THREE YEARS, WHICH IS VERY EXCITING.

IT'S BEEN REALLY NERVE WRACKING TO KIND OF JUST, YOU KNOW, LAY OUT THE FORMULA EXACTLY FOR DOING THESE THINGS.

YOU KNOW, OUR SENIORS ARE KIND OF JUST LIKE, OH, WE HAVE TO WRITE A SCRIPT AND GET IT APPROVED.

AND WE'RE LIKE, OH, OKAY.

SO IT'S BEEN A ROUGH, ROCKY PROCESS, BUT WE'RE REALLY JUST TRYING TO GET INTO IT.

AND, YOU KNOW, HEARING HER TALK ABOUT LIKE TRICK OR TREAT AND STUFF, I WENT TO THIS ASB CONFERENCE OVER THE SUMMER.

IT WAS A LEADERSHIP CAMP AND IT WAS A WEEK LONG AND IT WAS ACTUALLY REALLY INCREDIBLE.

I WAS WITH A BUNCH OF KIDS FROM SCHOOLS IN SEATTLE AND REALLY BIG SCHOOLS.

I THINK I TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE ONCE, BUT KIND OF JUST HEARING THINGS LIKE THAT, I THINK WE REALLY ARE TRYING TO GET INTO JUST CREATING MORE EVENTS AND REALLY KIND OF SPEARHEADING NEW EVENTS AT BATTLE GROUND BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, ALL WE DO RIGHT NOW IS JUST VERY THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE SINCE THE BEGINNING OF BATTLE GROUND, YOU KNOW, ARE JUST VERY BASIC HOMECOMING, PROM, ET CETERA, ET CETERA.

SO, YEAH, HEARING ALL THAT WAS VERY NICE TO HEAR AND JUST, YOU KNOW, WE WANT TO DO MORE.

BUT RIGHT NOW IT'S OUR SPIRIT WEEK.

WE'RE DOING FUN DAYS.

TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE BARBECUE DADS VERSUS SOCCER MOMS DAY.

SO THAT'S A VERY FUN THING.

BUT YEAH, THAT'S ALL.

SOUNDS FUN. THANK YOU, SIR.

AND I AGREE WITH YOU.

YOU KNOW, GETTING A CHANCE TO NETWORK WITH THE OTHER SCHOOLS AND GET GET IDEAS AND SHARE IDEAS, THAT'S THAT'S THE WAY IT IS, BECAUSE IT'S ACTUALLY SO FUN, BECAUSE EVERYONE'S SO EXCITED AND SO AMBITIOUS AND SO READY TO CREATE NEW IDEAS.

BUT FOR THE SOCIAL MEDIA, TOO, WE'VE BEEN KIND OF REVAMPING OUR INSTAGRAM PAGE AND WE'VE BEEN MAKING KIND OF TIK TOKS, TOO, AND POSTING THEM ON OUR INSTAGRAM.

AND IT'S BEEN GETTING KIDS REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE AT OUR FOOTBALL GAMES WILL HAVE LIKE EVERYONE INCLUDED AND EVERYONE WILL TURN ON THEIR FLASHLIGHTS AND KIND OF DO LIKE A WAVE.

AND WE'LL PUT THAT TO A TIK TOK SOUND ON OUR INSTAGRAM AND IT LIKE, I DON'T KNOW, IT GETS A REASON FOR EVERYONE TO BE THERE AND TRY TO MAKE THE VIDEO AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

SO YEAH, INCORPORATING SOCIAL MEDIA IS ACTUALLY SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN REALLY SUCCESSFUL.

[00:35:04]

GREAT. AND YOU'RE GOING TO GET ANOTHER CHANCE.

AND NOT TOO LONG TO INTERACT WITH OTHER STUDENT SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AT OUR.

OH, YEAH, WAS THE CONVENTION.

I THINK THAT'LL BE A GOOD ONE TO JOB ALIKE MEETING.

SO THAT LOOKS LIKE ALL THE STUDENT VOICES IN THE ROOM FOR THE MOMENT.

BUT PLEASE CHIME IN AS WE GO ALONG.

NEXT UP IS OUR COMMITTEE REPORTS, STARTING WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE AND DIRECTOR HENDRICKSON.

YEAH, WE HAD A BUSY WEEKEND LAST WEEKEND.

ON FRIDAY, GENERAL ASSEMBLY STARTED UP AT 9 A.M.

AND AND WENT ALL DAY UNTIL RIGHT UP TILL 5:00.

THAT WAS NICE TO KNOW THAT YOU WERE LISTENING IN.

MARK AND MARY AND I WERE TEXTING BACK AND FORTH THROUGH THE DIFFERENT POSITIONS AND STUFF.

IT WAS KIND OF FUN TO KNOW I WASN'T JUST IN THERE ALONE WORKING ON THIS STUFF.

BUT IT WAS INTERESTING.

THE LAST HOUR AND A HALF ESSENTIALLY WAS TAKEN UP WITH ONE POSITION.

AND YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THAT.

MARY, YOU HAVE THE BILL. I HAVE IT RIGHT HERE.

AND IT'S NOT A LARGE POSITION.

IT'S WAS THE PERMANENT POSITION.

AND THE TITLE IS PARENTS AND FAMILIES ARE IMPORTANT STAKEHOLDERS IN THEIR CHILDREN'S EDUCATION, WHICH YOU WOULDN'T THINK WOULD BE AN HOUR AND A HALF DISCUSSION.

BUT APPARENTLY BECAUSE THE COMMITTEE HAD RECOMMENDED A NOT PASS, THERE WAS AN HOUR AND A HALF OF DEBATE AND CALLING IT BACK FROM WHAT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TERM FOR IT, BUT EVEN AFTER THE VOTE CALLING FOR RECONSIDERATION AND SO IT WAS VOTES AND THEN WEIGHTED VOTES AND WEIGHTED VOTES.

AND ACTUALLY THIS ONE TIME IT PASSED ON A WEIGHTED VOTE, BECAUSE NORMALLY AND WHAT HAPPENED IS ONE OF THE BIG SCHOOL DISTRICTS CHANGED THEIR VOTE.

SO IT DID PASS.

AND THE REASON I THINK PEOPLE WERE PASSIONATE ABOUT IT WAS BECAUSE THERE IS ALREADY SOME WORDING AND WAYS TO POSITIONS THAT CALLS OUT PARENTS AND FAMILIES.

BUT IN THAT PARTICULAR ONE, IT'S REALLY AROUND TRUANCY AND DROPOUTS.

AND I THINK THOSE OF US WHO FELT PASSIONATE ABOUT HAVING THIS AS A POSITION, WE'RE MORE INTERESTED IN HAVING A POSITIVE TAKE ON IT, THAT PARENTS AND FAMILIES NEED TO BE OUR PARTNERS ALL THE TIME, NOT JUST WHEN THEIR CHILD IS TRUANT.

SO WE WERE GLAD IT PASSED, BUT AN HOUR AND A HALF OF DISCUSSION WAS INTERESTING.

A LITTLE MUCH, YEAH.

AND THEN IN ASSOCIATION WITH THAT, WE ALSO HAVE TO, AS A BOARD, SUBMIT TEN POSITIONS THAT WE ARE FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT.

LAST YEAR WE HAD TO DO 15.

AND SO ESSENTIALLY MARY LOOKED THROUGH THE YOU HAVE THIS HANDOUT HERE, BUT MARY LOOKED THROUGH THE ON THE SECOND PAGE.

MOST OF OUR POSITIONS FROM LAST YEAR WERE UNDER THE FUNDING AND ALLOCATION SECTION OR THE CAPITAL FACILITIES AND SCHOOL INSTRUCTIONS CONSTRUCTION SECTION.

AND ANYWAY, SO WE COULD PULL FROM THAT.

IF YOU WANT TO TALK MORE ABOUT THAT, YOU CAN.

BUT WHAT I'M WHAT I'M SUGGESTING THAT WE DO IS MAYBE MARY AND I, TOMORROW WE CAN GO THROUGH AND SOLIDIFY OUR TOP TEN.

WE CAN SUBMIT THAT TO YOU GUYS FOR YOU GUYS CAN LET US KNOW WHETHER YOU WANT TO ADD SOMETHING OR CHANGE SOMETHING OR JUST SAY IT LOOKS GOOD TO ME.

AND THEN ON ON WEDNESDAY, I'LL NEED TO SUBMIT IT TO WSSDA.

SO KIND OF ON A TIGHT CRUNCH LINE.

BUT YEAH, DOES THAT SOUND OKAY FOR YOU GUYS TO IF WE JUST SUBMIT THAT TO YOU? YEAH. AND THEN YOU LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

ARE YOU GOING TO CC THE SUPERINTENDENT AS WELL? YEAH. THE SUPERINTENDENTS GET TOGETHER AND DO THEIR POSITIONS.

OUR OWN LOBBYING GROUP.

SO THINK KIND OF WAITING FOR THE SAME THING.

YEAH. YOU KNOW, YOU SEE MANY OF THE SAME TOPICS, RIGHT? GREAT. AND SAME, MICHELLE.

I KNOW WITH [INAUDIBLE].

YES. IF THERE'S PLACES WE CAN OVERLAP AND ENHANCE EACH OTHER AND DO THAT WORKING BETTER TOGETHER, WE'D LOVE TO DO THAT.

YEAH. YEAH. I THINK IT'D BE IT WOULD BE IMPORTANT FOR US TO KNOW WHAT'S WHAT YOUR TOP PRIORITIES ARE AS AS DISTRICT PERSONNEL.

AND WE, WE GAVE YOU THIS WHOLE HANDOUT.

BECAUSE WHAT I FOUND IN LOOKING AT OUR OUR LIST FROM LAST YEAR AND THE LIST THIS YEAR, THE WORDING CHANGES AND SOMETIMES YOU READ IN IT AND YOU CAN'T TELL WHAT IT'S TALKING ABOUT. SO EVEN, FOR INSTANCE, THERE'S ONE ON HERE THAT SAYS BUDGETARY CAP ON SALARIES.

WE'RE LIKE, WELL, NO, WE DON'T WANT THAT.

WELL, WHEN YOU READ IT, IT'S ACTUALLY THE OPPOSITE OF THAT.

SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO READ THE DESCRIPTORS ON EACH OF THESE.

I COULD NOT MANY OF THEM.

I REALLY FELT I NEEDED TO READ THE DESCRIPTOR IN ORDER TO EVEN UNDERSTAND WHAT WE'RE ADVOCATING FOR.

SO THAT'S WHY WE GAVE YOU THE WHOLE 13 PAGES, RIGHT?

[00:40:01]

BUT THEIR BRIEF AND JUST.

FOR INFORMATION I CALLED UP WAS TODAY BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING FOR ONE THAT I COULDN'T FIND ON HERE.

AND IT TURNS OUT IT'S A PERMANENT POSITION RELATED TO THE SIMPLE MAJORITY POSITION.

AND BECAUSE THAT'S A PERMANENT POSITION, IT'S NOT ONE OF THE ONES WE'RE GOING TO VOTE ON, BUT IT WILL BE ADVOCATED FOR AT THE LEGISLATIVE LEVEL IF IT BECOMES A BILL SUGGESTION.

SO THAT WILL HELP A LOT WITH OUR BOND.

IF THAT WERE THE CASE, YEAH, IF THAT GETS PASSED.

WELL THEN I THINK THAT WHEN ACTUALLY IS CALLED OUT IN PASSAGE OF SCHOOL FINANCE ISSUES, I THINK SO.

BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THAT THAT'S WHAT IT WAS.

CORRECT. YEAH.

THERE'S JUST FROM THAT TITLE SO SO WE'LL WORK ON THAT.

YOU HAVE A QUESTION I'M GOING TO ASK MARY WHAT THE BILL NUMBER WAS FOR THE PARENT INVOLVEMENT.

ONE, I DON'T THERE'S NOT A BILL NUMBER YET.

WHAT IT IS THAT. WELL, ACTUALLY, THIS IS NOT A LEGISLATIVE POSITION.

THIS IS A WAS TO PERMANENT THIS WAS UP FOR WSSDA PERMANENT POSITION.

IT'S NOT PERMANENT YET SO IT'LL COME UP AGAIN.

SO YEAH, THAT ISN'T A THAT'S JUST A WSSDA POSITION.

CAN I GET A COPY OF THAT? SURE. YOU CAN HAVE THIS.

I'LL GIVE IT TO YOU. AND I LISTENED TO THE DEBATE AND IT WAS INTERESTING.

ONE OF THE ARGUMENTS WAS WE ALREADY HAVE A POSITION ON THIS.

RIGHT. WHY MAKE ANOTHER ONE? BUT I THINK ONE OF THE MOST COMPELLING ARGUMENTS AND MAYBE FROM THE LARGE DISTRICT THAT CHANGED THEIR VOTE WAS, YOU KNOW, WE CAN'T TELL OUR PARENTS ENOUGH THAT WE WANT TO BE PARTNERS WITH THEM. SO IF WE SAY IT TWICE, WE'RE JUST KIND OF REPEATING OUR CORE BELIEFS, YOU KNOW, THAT THIS IS IMPORTANT AND RIGHT. YEAH.

SO THE ONLY OTHER THING I HAD WAS I HAD MENTIONED THE ONE ABOUT THAT HAD TO DO WITH ENCOURAGING MORE PEOPLE TO RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD, AND THAT CONTAINED THE PART ABOUT REMOVING THE CITIZENSHIP REQUIREMENT.

AND WE DID SUCCEED IN GETTING THAT OFF THE CONSENT AGENDA.

AND THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF DEBATE ON THAT ONE.

HOWEVER, IT DID PASS.

SO IT IS THERE WAS A BILL LAST YEAR.

THAT'S ONE I'LL BE WATCHING.

THAT'S ALL THAT I WILL SAY.

I DON'T THINK IT CAME UP AS A TOP PRIORITY ONE MAYBE, BUT IT DID PASS.

SO. THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT TIME.

NEXT UP IS OUR AUDIT COMMITTEE.

THE AUDIT COMMITTEE MET.

WE REVIEWED THE SUPERINTENDENT'S BUDGET, THE SUPERINTENDENT'S TIMESHEET, THE BOARD'S BUDGET, PAYROLL AND ACCOUNTS PAYABLE, VOUCHERS AND EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER.

GOOD. OKAY.

ANY QUESTIONS? ALL RIGHT. WE ALREADY HAD KIND OF A REPORT ON OUR BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION, SO WE'LL LET THAT STAND.

SOUNDS LIKE NO MEETING FOR THE WASHINGTON STATE ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION.

HOW ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION? ANYBODY ELSE HAVE A REPORT? WELL, JUST THAT. WE NEED TO VOTE.

IT'S TIME TO VOTE, I DON'T THINK.

I DON'T KNOW WHEN THE VOTING CLOSES, BUT YOU CAN VOTE FOR OFFICERS FOR POSITIONS.

I ALREADY VOTED. I KNOW.

I ALREADY VOTED. YEP.

OKAY. YEAH.

THANKS FOR THAT REMINDER.

I'LL CHIME IN. WE HAD A MEETING OF THE TRUST LANDS ADVISORY GROUP, AND ACTUALLY OUR LEADER ON THE CALL WAS COMMISSIONER OF PUBLIC LANDS, HILARY FRANZ, AND IT WAS REAL INTERESTING TO GET THAT.

IT WENT ON FOR QUITE A WHILE AND I'LL JUST DO A QUICK SUMMARY SIMILAR TO WHAT I'VE REPORTED BEFORE, IS THEY'RE REALLY LOOKING AT TAKING A LOOK AT AUDITING AND LOOKING AT ALL OF THEIR PUBLIC LANDS AND SAYING, WHAT'S THE BEST AND HIGHEST USE FOR THIS LAND AND HOW CAN IT CAN ACTUALLY GENERATE MONEY IF IT'S NOT GENERATING MONEY NOW.

AN EXAMPLE SHE GAVE IS THEY JUST RENEWED THE LEASE ON THE LAND THAT THE WHOLE TACOMA MALL SITS ON.

SO THAT'S STATE LAND AND IT IS THE HIGHEST GENERATING PUBLIC LANDS IN THE STATE FOR ALL THOSE LEASES FOR JC PENNEY'S AND ALL THOSE KINDS OF THINGS. AND THEY JUST RENEGOTIATED THAT AT A RECORD AMOUNT.

SO THAT'S VERY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE THINK OF LIKE THE TIMBERLANDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT THAT ARE GOING ON.

THE OTHER THING THAT THEY WERE DOING IS THEY RECOGNIZE THAT THIS NEW PUSH TO REALLY USE OUR PUBLIC LANDS IN A VARIETY OF WAYS AND NOT JUST SOME OF THE OLD TRADITIONAL WAYS, IS RUNNING UP AGAINST ISSUES WITH OUR NATIVE TRIBES THAT ARE ALSO ADJACENT TO OR PART OF THOSE LANDS.

[00:45:07]

AND SO THEY'VE, IN A CASE OF WORKING BETTER TOGETHER, THEY'VE INVITED REPRESENTATIVES FOR ALL THE TRIBES TO COME IN AND TAKE A LOOK AT THEIR PROPOSALS FOR THE USE OF THOSE PUBLIC LANDS AND SAY, DO YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS IN ADVANCE BEFORE WE TRY TO CHANGE SOMETHING? SO ANYWAY, I WAS IMPRESSED WITH WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

AND THE BOTTOM LINE OF ALL OF THAT IS IF THOSE PUBLIC LANDS GENERATE MORE INCOME, WE GET A BETTER STATE MATCH WHEN WE RUN SCHOOL BONDS TO THAT.

SO RIGHT NOW THE MATCH IS ONLY ABOUT 13%, I BELIEVE IS WHAT I HEARD LAST TIME.

AND THEY'D LOVE TO MAKE THAT A HIGHER MATCH.

ANYTHING ELSE? NEXT UP IS OUR TOURS COMMITTEES.

I THINK EVERYBODY HAD A TOUR DURING THE LAST.

I DID NOT. OH, YOU DID NOT.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT. I WAS AT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

OH, THAT'S RIGHT. THAT'S GOOD.

SO, GROUP ONE, I THINK THAT'S ME.

OKAY, SO WE WENT TO DAYBREAK.

MIDDLE HAD A GREAT TIME GOING INTO VERY SELECTIVE CLASSES.

WE KIND OF WENT TO AND SPENT A LITTLE LONGER TIME IN.

AND THAT WAS REALLY NICE.

I ACTUALLY LIKED THAT SYSTEM RATHER THAN KIND OF ZOOMING IN AND OUT OF EACH CLASS.

AND ONE IN PARTICULAR STANDS OUT FOR ME WITH A SEVENTH GRADE MATH CLASS.

AND WE WALKED INTO THE ROOM AND ALL THE STUDENTS WERE BROKE INTO SMALL GROUPS AROUND A WHITEBOARD SOLVING PROBLEMS TOGETHER, AND THE TEACHER WAS JUST KIND OF DIRECTING IT.

BUT I THINK WHAT I REALLY LIKED IS LIKE EVERY SINGLE KID WAS ENGAGED IN SOLVING THIS PROBLEM OR WHATEVER IT WAS REALLY.

THE TEACHER HAD A GREAT MANAGEMENT STYLE OR, YOU KNOW, LOTS AND LOTS OF MATH CONVERSATION TAKING PLACE.

YOU KNOW, I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THAT.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAD SOMETHING ELSE YOU WANT TO POINT OUT.

SAME, SAME.

I WANT TO THANK THE ADMINISTRATION AND THE STAFF AT DAYBREAK MIDDLE.

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING.

I THINK EVERY CLASSROOM THAT WE WALKED INTO, WE SAW A LOT OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT.

A LOT OF THE CULTURE AND THE CLIMATE OF THE BUILDING WAS FANTASTIC.

WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH THE SEL ROOM PERSON WHO SUPERVISES THE SEL ROOM AND JUST OUTSTANDING THAT WAS MICHELLE DEAVER IS THE PERSON WHO DOES THAT AND JUST THEY'VE GOT AN SEL ROOM THAT IS BECOME A ROADMAP FOR OTHER SEL ROOMS IN THE DISTRICT THE WAY THEY'RE MAKING IT WORK.

SO THAT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE.

AND AGAIN, JUST, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING WE SAW THERE WERE, YOU KNOW, JUST STUDENTS DOING WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO AND HAVING A GREAT TIME DOING IT.

SO THANK YOU.

DAVE. GREAT. YEAH.

GROUP TWO WENT TO DEBATE.

PRIMARY. PRIMARY? YEAH. I JOINED THAT GROUP.

IT WAS A GREAT TIME.

WE GOT TO SEE LOTS OF DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS, INCLUDING THE TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN.

SO THAT WAS REALLY NICE TO SEE THOSE STUDENTS.

EVERYBODY WAS VERY ENGAGED, BUT WE WENT TO MULTIPLE CLASSROOMS. ONE OF THE ONES I REALLY LIKE TO SEE WAS THE WE JUST RENEWED THE ALEXIA SOFTWARE, I GUESS, AND WE GOT TO SEE IT IN ACTION AND AND DIFFERENT KIDS OF ALL DIFFERENT AGES WITH THEIR HEADPHONES ON, LEARNING AT THEIR LEVEL.

AND IT WAS AS A BOARD, WE GET TO SEE THOSE, WE GET TO VOTE ON IT AND WE GET TO HEAR ABOUT IT.

BUT TO SEE IT BEING USED AND HOW ENGAGED THOSE STUDENTS WERE AND CONNECTED WITH WHAT THEY WERE DOING WAS IT WAS REALLY KIND OF BROUGHT IT FULL CIRCLE. THE OTHER THING THAT REALLY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION WAS WE GOT TO SEE THE DRAGON DEN, WHICH IS A QUIET ROOM, NOT WHERE KIDS GO IF THEY'RE IN TROUBLE, BUT WHERE THEY CAN JUST REFOCUS THEIR ENERGY.

AND OUTSIDE OF THAT ROOM WAS A SENSORY I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO CALL IT, A SENSORY.

THERE WAS JUST DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES ALL OVER THE FLOOR.

AND I REALLY WANTED TO PLAY ALONG AND WALK.

WALK? YEAH, WALK.

SO THAT WAS IT WAS GREAT.

AND THE STAFF WAS AMAZING.

WE GOT TO HEAR ABOUT WE GOT THIS, THIS PAGE AND IT WAS JUST DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY DID AT AND WE ALL GOT TO

[00:50:02]

PICK ONE AND KIND OF LEARN MORE ABOUT IT.

AND I THINK MINE WAS THE TURKEY HUNT.

IT FEELS SO LONG AGO.

BUT THEY ENGAGED THE STAFF AND THEY HAD TURKEYS LAST YEAR ALL OVER THE SCHOOL AND THEY HAD IT BUILT.

IT WAS LIKE TEAM BUILDING AND HOW THE STAFF COULD ALWAYS THE STAFF COULD COME BACK TOGETHER AFTER BEING APART FOR SO LONG.

AND SO THAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME AS WELL.

AND SO IT WAS JUST IT WAS JUST A GREAT TOUR.

AND I WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO THE ADMINISTRATION FOR PUTTING ON A REALLY NICE EVENT.

AND SORA CAME AND KELLY WAS THERE AND MIKE MICHOD.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF SORA HAS STUFF TO ADD.

NO, I REALLY DID ENJOY THAT.

AND I REALLY IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW MUCH THEY ALLOWED STUDENTS TO KIND OF CHANNEL AND HARNESS THEIR ENERGY, LIKE YOU SAID, WITH THE SENSORY WALK.

I YOU KNOW, I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NOT THAT LONG AGO, BUT I JUST BEING ABLE TO KIND OF GO IN THE HALLWAY AND JUST HAVE THIS GUIDED PLACE WHERE YOU CAN, YOU KNOW, LET OUT YOUR ENERGY BECAUSE YOU'RE A FIVE YEAR OLD WHO IS STUCK IN A MATH CLASS.

YOU NEED THAT KIND OF TIME TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT AND JUMP AROUND.

AND I REMEMBER GOING TO I THINK IT WAS THE MATH HALL.

IT WAS IN A PORTABLE, BUT IT WAS IN THE MATH AREA.

AND THERE WERE TWO CLASSROOMS AND THEY HAD SOME LIKE MATH CHANTS.

AND THEY WERE THEY WERE REALLY CLEVER.

I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY WERE, BUT ONE CLASSROOM WAS CHANTING THEIR MASCOT AND EVERYONE WAS REALLY ENGAGED.

IT WAS REALLY COOL TO SEE.

THEY WERE ALL REALLY EXCITED ABOUT LEARNING THEIR TIMES TABLES AND THE COOL TRICKS THAT YOU CAN USE.

BUT THEY DID THEIR MATH CHANT AND THEN THE ROOM ACROSS THE HALL DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT WE WERE THERE.

BUT THEY DID THE CHANT LIKE LOUDER, AND THEY KIND OF STARTED A COMPETITION AND THEY WERE GOING BACK AND FORTH WITH THIS MATH CHANT AND WERE ALL, THE KIDS ARE GETTING SO EXCITED JUST SAYING THIS PHRASE ABOUT MATH.

BUT IT WAS REALLY JUST HAPPY TO SEE EVERYONE WAS ACTUALLY REALLY ENJOYING THEIR DAY AT SCHOOL.

AND IT'S, YOU KNOW, COOL TO SEE THAT WITHOUT ANY STRESS.

JUST. YEAH.

I WOULD CERTAINLY ECHO MANY OF THE THINGS THAT JACKIE AND SARA SAID.

I APPRECIATED THE WAY OUR ADMINISTRATORS GAVE SOME CHOICE TO US ABOUT WHAT WE WOULD ASK ABOUT BY DOING THE THE BUBBLE AND HAVING ALL KINDS OF WORDS AND THEN LETTING US PICK WHAT WE WANTED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT, WHICH WAS GREAT BECAUSE OFTENTIMES FOR ME, SOME OF THE STUFF I, I KNOW WHAT WHAT IT MEANS TO SEE DATA CYCLES, BUT SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS, I'M LIKE, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT.

WHAT IS IT? AND IT GETS MORE OUT THERE ABOUT WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT OUR BUILDINGS AND WHAT'S DIFFERENT BETWEEN OUR BUILDINGS AND MAKE THEM MAKES THEM SPECIAL? I COMPLETELY AGREE.

THE ALEXIA PIECE A BIT BLEW MY MIND IN THE WAY IN WHICH IT WAS BEING USED.

I KNEW THAT THE PROGRAM WAS BEING USED FOR INTERVENTION, BUT WHAT I DID NOT UNDERSTAND UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TALK WITH ONE OF OUR TEACHERS, LAURIE SIBLEY, IS THAT THEY HAVE MOVED TO THIS USING THIS PROGRAM, WHETHER WHEN THEY'RE DOING SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION WITH STUDENTS WHO MIGHT NEED RETEACHING.

SO RATHER THAN GIVING STUDENTS ALL THE SAME WORKSHEET TO WORK ON THAT MAY NOT BE DESIGNED FOR THEIR LEVEL OF NEED, THEY'RE GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A CHROMEBOOK AND WORK SPECIFICALLY ON SKILLS THAT THEY NEED TO DEVELOP.

SO IT IS INDIVIDUALIZED.

SO THAT IS ASSURING THAT THE INSTRUCTION KEEPS MOVING FORWARD FOR STUDENTS AT THEIR LEVEL AND CONTINUES THE LEARNING.

SO. SO THAT WAS WONDERFUL TO SEE.

IT WAS GREAT TO SEE SOME OF THE SCIENCE OF READING STRATEGIES HAPPENING IN CLASSROOMS WITH WORD WALLS AND SOME OF THE PHONEMIC AWARENESS ACTIVITIES AND THE EITC CLASSROOM.

I MEAN, I COULD SPEND ALL DAY SINGING SPECKLED FROG WITH THE KIDS.

IT WAS GREAT, BUT GREAT TOUR, GREAT STAFF, CLEARLY A LOVE OF LEARNING GOING ON THERE, JUST KIDS CLEARLY ENJOYING WHAT THEY'RE DOING. AND IT MADE ME FEEL REALLY EXCITED AND WANTING TO SPEND MY ALL MY DAYS IN A BUILDING.

SO I APPRECIATED THEM GREATLY.

SO YEAH.

OKAY, GREAT. GROUP THREE WENT TO CAMP ACADEMY IN LEWISVILLE, IN THE WAREHOUSE.

MARY AND I WAS.

WELL, I AM THE SOLE REPRESENTATIVE TONIGHT OF GROUP THREE.

I HAD TRAVIS WITH ME AND I HAD RICARDO, SO I DON'T SEE TRAVIS HERE.

AND RICARDO'S GONE.

BUT I WANT TO THANK THE STAFF AND THE PRINCIPAL AND THE STUDENTS AT CAMP.

IT WAS A DELIGHTFUL VISIT, AND WE MET WITH STUDENT LEADERS, FIRST OF ALL.

AND I LOVED WHAT ONE OF THE STUDENT LEADERS SAID WHEN THEY TALKED ABOUT THIS YEAR.

THEIR THEME IS CHANGE.

THEY SAID WE HE SAID, WE ARE GOING TO BRING THE GOOD FROM THEIR PREVIOUS CAMPUS AND MAKE MORE GOOD.

SO THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY WERE DOING.

AND WE VISITED EVERY SINGLE CLASSROOM.

AND IT WAS JUST AMAZING THE WHAT I CALL ACADEMIC ENERGY AND THE CONVERSATIONS.

[00:55:04]

AND LIKE YOU WERE TALKING, MARK, THE SMALL GROUPS WORKING ON A MATH PROBLEM.

AND AND IT WAS INTERESTING, TOO, BECAUSE IN SOME OF THE CLASSROOMS, THE STUDENTS HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ASK US QUESTIONS.

AND I WISH RICARDO WAS HERE BECAUSE THEY ASK HIM, WHY DID YOU WANT TO BE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD? THEY ASKED BOTH OF US THAT QUESTION.

BUT I WAS IT WAS INTERESTING THAT THEY ASKED HIM WHY HE WANTED TO BE A STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ON THE SCHOOL BOARDS, AND I THINK THEY WERE SIXTH GRADERS.

SO WE MIGHT SEE ONE OF THOSE ON THE ON THE SCHOOL BOARD IN THE FUTURE.

THAT WAS A QUESTION I DIDN'T EXPECT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

THEY THANKED US, THANKED US, THANKED US FOR THEIR CAMPUS, FOR THEIR SCHOOL.

AND I WAS AMAZED.

IT WAS AS IF THEY'D BEEN HERE HERE FOR YEARS BECAUSE THE TRANSITION SEEMED SO COMPLETE.

AND AND YET THERE THEY KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT THING AND THEY'RE THEY'RE READY TO MOVE.

BUT IT CERTAINLY DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THEY WERE TEMPORARY.

SO THAT WAS THAT WAS FUN.

WE ALSO VISITED THE PRINT SHOP AND WE LEARNED WHY IT'S MORE EFFICIENT FOR THE DISTRICT TO HAVE A PRINT SHOP THAN FOR TEACHERS TO STAND AT A COPY MACHINE FOR HOURS AND HOURS, WHICH MAKES TOTAL SENSE.

AND WE VISITED THE WAREHOUSE.

AND AGAIN, I WAS FASCINATED BY THE WAREHOUSE BECAUSE IT'S KIND OF LIKE HAVING A MINI LITTLE AMAZON WAREHOUSE IN THE DISTRICT, THE WAY EVERYTHING COMES IN AND GOES OUT AND GETS SORTED.

IT'S JUST FASCINATING.

DARCY DOES A GREAT JOB OVER THERE.

SO WE HAD GREAT, A GREAT TOUR AND I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO ANOTHER ONE THIS MONTH.

OKAY. AND OUR NEXT ONE IS BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

THAT'S FRIDAY. YES.

AND JUST TO BE AWARE, I'M GOING TO BE IN SOUTH CAROLINA, SO.

ALL RIGHT. I HEAR THERE'S GOING TO BE GOOD FOOD.

THAT'S ALWAYS.

EIGHT, 830.

830. YEAH, IT'S USUALLY 830.

I THINK IT WAS 830.

CHARLIE'S CHECKING OK AND JUST CHECKING WITH THE BOARD.

WE KIND OF ALL GOT TO DESCRIBE OUR TOURS IN THAT.

BUT WE DO HAVE OUR DIRECTOR REPORTS NEXT.

DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANYTHING IN ADDITION THAT THEY WANT TO SHARE? WELL, WE HAD WE HAD A GREAT OPPORTUNITY GOING TO THE 100 YEAR FOOTBALL CELEBRATION AT THE FOOTBALL GAME WITH TAHOMA, MOUNT TAHOMA, AND WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO HELP BRING THE FLAG OUT AT HALFTIME.

AND AND MR. STANFILL WAS GREAT AND HONORING ALL THE OLDER COACHES AND DENNY YOU GOT TO BE AN HONORARY CAPTAIN WITH.

YEAH. YEAH.

AND WHO ARE YOU WITH? THERE WERE TWO MIKE HOFFMAN, WHO'S THE DIRECTOR OF WEAA.

YEAH. AND THEN TWO OLDER GENTLEMAN WHO PLAYED ONE FOR THE 1950.

WOW. AND THE LAST UNDEFEATED BATTLE GROUND TEAM AND ONE IN THE 1952 BATTLE GROUND TEAM.

SO BOTH OF THEM ARE CLOSE TO 90 OVER 90 OR 90 YEARS OLD.

YEAH. SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT.

AND THEN JUST OTHERS SHOWED UP AS WELL AND THEY WERE HONORED AND AND IT WAS IT WAS A GREAT EVENT AND UNFORTUNATELY IT DIDN'T WIN THE GAME, BUT WE PLAYED WELL.

I THINK IT WAS A GOOD GAME.

YEAH, YEAH, YEAH.

OUTSTANDING ACTIVITY FOR JUST JUST FOR BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, BUT ALSO FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.

FOR THE COMMUNITY, YEAH. A LOT OF PEOPLE THERE WHO WERE SUPPORTING THEIR MARY AND I AND JACKIE WERE SITTING TOGETHER AND THIS WE WERE MARVELING OVER THE LETTERMAN'S JACKETS.

I CAN IMAGINE THEY LOOKED BRAND NEW.

THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY HAD JUST GOTTEN THEM BACK FROM AND THEY WERE TELLING US THE STORY OF HOW BACK IN THE DAY, THE ONLY PLACE THAT YOU COULD GET YOUR LETTERMAN'S JACKET WAS AT THE PENDLETON MILL.

OH, WOW. YEAH. YEAH.

AND THAT'S WHERE YOU HAD TO GO.

AND THE PENDLETON MILL AT THAT TIME WAS WAS LOCATED IN PORTLAND.

AND SO YOU WOULD JUST HAVE TO GO DOWN THERE AND GET THESE.

THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL.

THEY WERE LIKE PIECES OF ARTWORK.

YEAH. AND YEAH, THEY'RE REALLY, REALLY, REALLY COOL.

AND THEY WERE SO PROUD TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT THEM AGAIN.

YEAH, FOR SURE. IT WAS GREAT.

RIGHT. ANY OTHERS? WE LEARNED HOW HEAVY A FLAG CAN BE.

OH. OH, YEAH.

BUT IT WAS A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE.

PROBABLY ONE I'LL NEVER HAVE AGAIN.

I'VE NEVER HAD BEFORE.

SO. OKAY.

I HEAR QUIET, SO IT MUST BE READY TO MOVE ON.

AND NOW THAT THE BOARD COMMUNICATIONS ARE DONE, SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

[7. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

THANK YOU, LORD.

I HOPE THAT YOU WILL BEAR WITH ME, BECAUSE I'D LIKE TO READ A PROCLAMATION FROM THE GOVERNOR OF WASHINGTON.

[01:00:01]

OCTOBER, IN ADDITION TO BEING WAS A HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH.

IT IS ALSO THE NATIONAL PRINCIPLES MONTH.

AND WE ALL KNOW THE GREAT WORK, THE IMPORTANT WORK THAT ALL OF OUR PRINCIPALS DO IN BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO IF YOU WOULD BEAR WITH ME THE PROCLAMATION FROM THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.

WHEREAS, THE WASHINGTON SENATE HAS DECLARED THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 2022 AS NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH IN COORDINATION WITH THE EFFORTS OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, WORKING WITH THE US CONGRESS TO DESIGNATE NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH AND RESOLUTIONS THEREOF.

AND. WHEREAS, PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS PLAY SIGNIFICANT ROLES IN OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM BY CREATING HOPE FOR EACH AND EVERY STUDENT IN THEIR BUILDINGS, BY LEADING CULTURE SYSTEMS AND LEARNING, AND BY WORKING TIRELESSLY EACH DAY AS VISIONARIES, ASSESSMENT EXPERTS, COMMUNITY BUILDERS, PUBLIC RELATIONS EXPERTS, BUDGET ANALYSTS, FACILITY MANAGERS, SPECIAL PROGRAM ADMINISTRATORS AND GUARDIANS OF VARIOUS LEGAL, CONTRACTUAL AND POLICY MANDATES AND INITIATIVES.

AND. WHEREAS, PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH FAMILIES, TEACHERS AND DISTRICT OFFICIALS TO DEVELOP MISSION STATEMENTS, SET PERFORMANCE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR SCHOOLS TO ACHIEVE EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE, AND MAINTAIN HIGH CURRICULUM STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS.

AND. WHEREAS, THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AT ESP HONORS SUCH EXEMPLARY PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS WHO HAVE SUCCEEDED IN PROVIDING HIGH QUALITY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AS WELL AS THEIR EXEMPLARY CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROFESSION.

AND. WHEREAS, TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ALL SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS TO THE SUCCESS OF EACH AND EVERY STUDENT IN WASHINGTON SCHOOLS, OUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE AND TO ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS OF WASHINGTON TO OBSERVE PRINCIPALS MONTH WHICH APPROPRIATE CEREMONIES AND ACTIVITIES THAT PROMOTE AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SCHOOL LEADERSHIP AND ENSURING THAT EVERY CHILD HAS ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION.

NOW, THEREFORE, I.

JAY INSLEE, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER 2022 AS PRINCIPALS MONTH IN WASHINGTON, AND I ENCOURAGE ALL PEOPLE IN OUR STATE TO JOIN ME IN THIS SPECIAL OBSERVATION.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR PRINCIPALS AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR US.

I ALSO WANTED TO QUICKLY POINT OUT THAT OUR NEW CORE BELIEFS POSTER IS UP NOW 2020 TO 2025.

FEEL GOOD? WE'RE UP TO DATE.

AND THEN I ALSO I KNOW THAT MICHELLE SCOTT ALSO GIVES US AN ENROLLMENT REPORT AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

BUT I DID WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WE JUST DID OUR PRELIMINARY OCTOBER COUNT.

AND REMEMBER, LAST MONTH WE REPORTED TO YOU THAT WE HAD A RISE OF ENROLLMENT OF 409 STUDENTS.

WE HAD AN ADDITIONAL OVER ANOTHER HUNDRED STUDENTS COME INTO THE SCHOOL.

SO NOW OUR TOTAL ENROLLMENT INCREASE FOR THE YEAR STANDS AT 516 STUDENTS, AND OUR TOTAL COUNT IS AT 11,958 STUDENTS.

SO APPROACHING BACK TO THAT MAGIC 1200 NUMBER.

SO THAT'S PRETTY COOL. YEAH, 12,000.

SORRY, I'M IN THAT 12,000, NOT 1200 APPROACHING BACK TO THAT 12,000 NUMBER, WHICH WOULD BE HUGE FOR US TO GET OVER THAT AGAIN.

SO JUST SHOWS THAT WE CONTINUE TO GROW.

YEAH. I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLEY.

SHELLEY'S ALSO GOING TO BE COVERING BECAUSE MICHELLE REINHART IS AT A CONFERENCE, A LOT CONFERENCE.

YEAH. SO I'LL START WITH MICHELLE'S ITEMS. YOU'LL SEE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA THIS EVENING A REQUEST TO INCREASE OUR SUB RATES AS WELL AS OUR TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT AS OF THE FIRST OF THE YEAR WE WILL BE INCREASING OUR MINIMUM WAGE.

WE ONLY HAVE A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE THAT FALL UNDER MINIMUM WAGE, BUT THAT GETS INCREASED EVERY JANUARY THAT THOSE PEOPLE ARE MANY OF OUR STUDENT WORKERS, OUR REFEREES IN COMMUNITY.

ED THOSE FOLKS ARE MINIMUM WAGE WORKERS.

OUR SUBSTITUTE RATES, ONE OF THE REASONS THAT WE ARE BRINGING THIS IN FRONT OF YOU NOW IS WE CONTINUE TO WORK DILIGENTLY TO GET SUBS INTO OUR DISTRICT.

[01:05:03]

AND AS WE COMPETE WITH THE THE DISTRICTS AROUND US ARE WE NEED TO KEEP OUR RATES COMPETITIVE WITH THEIR THEIRS.

AND THE INCREASES THAT WE'RE ASKING FOR WILL PUT US THIRD OVERALL.

WE ARE ACTUALLY IN THAT RANGE RIGHT NOW, EXCEPT FOR WE HAVE STRUGGLES AT AMBOY AND YAKULT.

WE'VE PAID FOR THE LAST, I WANT TO SAY SEVEN OR EIGHT YEARS, A DIFFERENTIAL OF $5 TO TRAVEL UP TO AMBOY YAKULT WE FELT LIKE THAT WAS ENOUGH PRE THE GAS PRICE INCREASES TO WARRANT PEOPLE TO GO UP THERE.

BUT WE HAVE WE ARE REQUESTING AN INCREASE OF $10 FOR THE DAILY RATE TO HAVE FOLKS TRAVEL UP TO YAKULT AND AMBOY JUST BECAUSE THE GAS HAS GOTTEN SO EXPENSIVE THAT I DON'T THINK $5 WILL COVER IT ANYMORE.

SO IT WILL MAKE THAT WILL PUT THEM AT THE HIGHEST PAID SUB RATE IN OUR IN OUR COUNTY, WHICH I THINK WILL BE HELPFUL BECAUSE IT'S ALSO ONE OF THE MOST REMOTE AREAS IN OUR COUNTY.

SO HOPEFULLY THAT WILL DRAW SOME FOLKS TO AMBOY YAKULT AREA.

WE ARE WORKING WITH OUR SUB SUBSTITUTE OFFICE, OUR SUBSTITUTE CLERK RAY DEAN, AND WE HAVE ONBOARDED OVER 100 SUBS EVERY DAY.

THEY ARE ONBOARDING MORE AND MORE, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, BECAUSE WE OFTENTIMES PULL PEOPLE THAT WOULD BE QUALIFIED AS CLASSIFIED SUBS IN AS EMERGENCY SUBS.

THAT SOMETIMES MAKES US SUFFER A LOSS WHEN IT COMES TO OUR CLASSIFIED SUBS.

SO THERE'S A RATE INCREASE AS WELL FOR OUR CLASSIFIED SUBS TO ALSO HELP OFFSET THAT.

AND AGAIN, WE'VE DONE A COMPARABLE WITH THE DISTRICTS AROUND US AND THOSE INCREASES WILL MAKE US ONCE AGAIN COMPETITIVE FOR OUR RATES.

SO THAT REQUEST IS REALLY TO HELP US MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR CLASSROOMS ARE COVERED AND THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE GETTING THE BEST OUT OF THE PEOPLE THAT ARE COMING INTO OUR CLASSROOMS TO TO SUPPORT THEM DURING THE DAY WHEN THEIR REGULAR STAFF AREN'T AVAILABLE.

SO ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? HAS THAT BEEN EFFECTIVE IN MAKING IT SO TEACHERS DON'T HAVE TO COVER EACH OTHER'S CLASSES QUITE SO OFTEN? AND IT IT HAS HELPED IN THE PAST WHEN WE'VE INCREASED OUR SUB RATES TO BRING MORE PEOPLE IN.

ALSO HAVING A COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT IF THEY HAVE A BACKGROUND WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE AND EVEN IF.

THEY DON'T HAVE A BACHELOR'S DEGREE, BUT AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

THEY COULD BECOME EMERGENCY CERTIFIED SO THAT WHEN WE GET REGULARLY CERTIFIED PEOPLE INTO POSITIONS, WHEN WE RUN OUT OF THEM, WE CAN USE EMERGENCY SUBS AS WELL.

SO HAVING THAT COMMUNICATION GO OUT, YOU PROBABLY HEAR IT IF YOU LISTEN TO THE RADIO.

MANY OF THE DISTRICTS AROUND US ARE DOING THE SAME THING.

THEY'RE JUST THERE'S RADIO BLASTS THAT BASICALLY SAY, WE NEED YOU AS A COMMUNITY.

WE NEED YOU IN OUR SCHOOLS HELPING TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND MAKE SURE OUR CLASSROOMS HAVE HAVE PEOPLE THAT CAN SUPPORT OUR KIDS DURING THE DAY WHEN OUR REGULAR STAFF IS OUT. SO WE'RE WORKING ON THAT.

WE'RE ALSO WORKING ON EMERGENCY SUB PLANS AT THE BUILDING LEVEL, TRYING TO GET THOSE IN PLACE AND INCREASING THAT BEFORE WE GET TO THE FLU SEASON.

FLU AND COLD SEASON.

SO. CONTINUE TO WORK ON.

YOU PROBABLY SAID THIS, BUT WHAT IS OUR CURRENT RATE FOR A TEACHER? FOR OUR CURRENT RATE IS 170.

WE'RE MOVING TO ONE 7250.

OH, RIGHT. ONE 7250 AND WE'RE MOVING TO 175 OH.

AND THEN THE THE DIFFERENCE.

SO IT WAS A $5 DIFFERENCE.

SO IT WAS ONE 7754 AMBOY AND YAKULT.

BUT NOW WE'RE CHANGING THAT TO A $10 DIFFERENCE.

SO THAT'LL GO UP TO 185 AND 185, AS SHELLEY INDICATED, PUTS US AT THE HIGHEST SUB RATE.

BUT I THINK IT'S WARRANTED GIVEN AS WE TALKED ABOUT THE REMOTENESS OF THOSE TWO SCHOOLS AND THE STRUGGLES WE HAVE.

AND I THINK IT SENDS A STRONG MESSAGE.

I KNOW THAT STAFF IS APPRECIATIVE THAT WE'RE YOU KNOW, WE'RE WE'RE TRYING OUR BEST THERE.

AND THE ADMINISTRATION HAS COMMENTED THE SAME THING.

I DON'T THINK THERE HAS BEEN A DAY THAT HAS GONE BY YET THIS SCHOOL YEAR WHERE NICK, FOR INSTANCE, AT AMBOY, HASN'T HAD TO COVER SOME CLASSES. AND THAT MAKES DOING THE JOB OF PRINCIPAL, RIGHT? YEAH, REALLY TOUGH.

AND IT IMPACTS OUR TEACHERS AS WELL.

THE OTHER UPDATE.

I JUST DIDN'T WANT TO BE LEFT OUT OF THE AWARENESS MONTH.

IT IS ALSO DISABILITY AWARENESS MONTH, SO I WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WE ARE DOING SOME ACTIVITIES IN OUR IN OUR BUILDINGS.

[01:10:06]

OUR TEACHING AND LEARNING TEAM HAS SENT OUT SOME RESOURCES TO OUR PRINCIPLES THAT WILL THEN BE SHARED AT THE BUILDING LEVEL SO THAT THEY CAN DO SOME WORK TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE HURDLES THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT IN ORDER TO JUST WALK THROUGH A BUILDING AND WALK UP A SET OF STAIRS OR TO BE ABLE TO READ SOMETHING.

IF DYSLEXIA MIGHT BE THE DISABILITY.

THERE'S JUST A VARIETY OF DISABILITIES THAT WE HAVE THAT IMPACT STUDENTS, STAFF, AND WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR WAYS TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THOSE THINGS SO THAT THEY CAN BETTER, BETTER SERVE OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF.

SO JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT AS WELL.

AND THAT WOULD BE IT FOR FOR BOTH TEACHING AND LEARNING AND HUMAN RESOURCES.

NEXT UP IS OUR FINANCE REPORT BY OUR CFO, MICHELLE SCOTT.

I HAVE A FEW THINGS ON THE FINANCE REPORT, SO I'M GOING TO SHARE SOME OF THEM FROM RIGHT HERE.

AND THEN I HAVE A PRESENTATION FOR YOU ON THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE.

SO THE FIRST THING I WANTED TO SHARE WITH YOU IS WE ALSO HAVE A RECOGNITION FROM OUR BUSINESS SERVICES DEPARTMENT.

I WANTED TO RECOGNIZE MISSY GRANTHAM.

SHE'S OUR ACCOUNT PAYABLE TECHNICIAN.

SHE HAS RECEIVED HER HER CERTIFIED SCHOOL BUSINESS SPECIALISTS AND ACCOUNTS PAYABLE AWARD FROM WAS SPO.

AND SO SHE IS SHE HAS COMPLETED OVER 50 HOURS OF UM, OF AP TRAINING AS WELL AS ACCOUNTING TRAINING.

AND SO IT'S, IT'S, IT'S QUITE A LOT OF WORK ON HER PART AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF HER THAT SHE HAS BEEN AWARDED HER CERTIFIED SCHOOL BUSINESS SPECIALISTS RECOGNITIONS FROM WAS BOTH SO I NEED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MISSY AND THEN ALSO WE DID PUT THE CONTRACT INFORMATION REPORT ON THE UNDER THE FINANCE SECTION.

SO THAT'S AVAILABLE FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT.

AND ALSO A FEES, JUST SOME REVISIONS ON THE FEES SCHEDULES WITH SOME EXPLANATION ON THAT.

AND SO IF YOU HAD ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO TRY TO ANSWER ALL THOSE FOR YOU.

NO QUESTION. NO QUESTIONS.

GREAT. OKAY.

WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE.

SO THE LAST TIME I PROVIDED AN UPDATE TO YOU ON THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE, THIS IS A COMMITTEE THAT I AM A COMMITTEE MEMBER OF AND WAS IN MARCH.

AND SO THE COMMITTEE HAS COMPLETED THEIR REPORT.

AND I WANTED TO BRING YOU UP TO SPEED ON EVERYTHING.

OKAY. PERFECT.

THANK YOU. THAT'S. A BIT.

SO JUST TO REMIND YOU, THERE IS AUTHORIZATION AUTHORIZING LEGISLATION ON THIS.

THIS IS THIS WAS PART OF THE MCCLEARY SOLUTION IN 2017 AND THE MCCLEARY FIX IN 2018.

AND SO THIS IS THE IN BEGINNING WITH THE 2023 LEGISLATIVE SESSION, EVERY FOUR YEARS THEREAFTER, THE LEGISLATURE SHALL REVIEW AND REBASE STATE BASIC EDUCATION COMPENSATION ALLOCATION COMPARED TO SCHOOL DISTRICT COMPENSATION, DATA, REGIONALIZATION FACTORS, INFLATIONARY MEASURES AND ACTUAL MARKET EXPERIENCE FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND OTHER ECONOMIC INFORMATION.

AND SO THOSE ARE THE SOME OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE IN PART OF THEIR AND THEN ALSO IN 2020 WHEN IT WAS ADDED TO ACTUALLY FORM THE COMMITTEE AND TO PREPARE RECOMMENDATION FOR THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT.

AND THEN THEN HE WOULD PROVIDE THAT TO THE GOVERNOR.

SO THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE WOULD ALSO DEVELOP THE RECOMMENDATIONS TO SUPPORT RECRUITING AND RETAINING A MULTICULTURAL, MULTILINGUAL EDUCATOR

[01:15:06]

WORKFORCE. SO WE'VE HAD WE HAD 15 MEETINGS BETWEEN NOVEMBER AND SEPTEMBER AND WE HAD MANY SCHOOL FUNDING PRESENTATIONS FROM EXPERTS SUCH AS OCI, EDUCATOR, WORKFORCE RESEARCH.

QUITE A FEW OF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, YOU KNOW, WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS THAT WERE COMING FROM, SO WE ALL HAD TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ON SCHOOL FUNDING AND DIFFERENT THINGS.

WE ALSO HAD PROPOSAL PRESENTATIONS FROM ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS WASHINGTON EDUCATION ASSOCIATION, WEAA, PUBLIC SCHOOLS, EMPLOYEES OF WASHINGTON, PSC. THERE WAS A JOINT PROPOSAL FROM OBO WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIALS, WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS AND WASHINGTON SCHOOL PERSONNEL ASSOCIATION, AS WELL AS THE ASSOCIATION OF WASHINGTON SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND OSP EVEN HAD A PROPOSAL FOR US AS WELL, AND THERE WAS SURVEYS AND PUBLIC COMMENT AND THEN WE ALSO HAD PROPOSALS FROM OTHER INDIVIDUALS AS WELL.

SO IT WAS A LOT OF INTAKE OF INFORMATION, REALLY GREAT, REALLY GOOD INFORMATION FROM ALL OF THOSE PROPOSALS.

SO THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AGAIN WERE WE HAD ONE FROM WASSA WAS BOVESPA.

WE HAD THREE REPRESENTING TEACHERS, EDUCATIONAL STAFF, WEAA, THREE FROM PSC, AS WELL AS ONE FROM REPRESENTING PARENTS AND ONE STUDENT, AS WELL AS ONE FROM A RECOGNIZED, FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED INDIAN TRIBE AND ALSO A COMMITTEE CHAIR.

SO THAT WAS OUR MEMBERS AND WE WORKED.

IT WAS A GREAT COMMITTEE TO WORK ON WITH ALL OF THESE WONDERFUL MEMBERS THAT WE HAD HERE.

SO THE FINAL REPORT AND IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER, THESE ARE JUST SOME KEY THINGS I WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW IS THAT THE REPORT WAS JUST ISSUED IN SEPTEMBER, THE END OF SEPTEMBER, TO THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT TO PRESENT TO GOVERNOR INSLEE.

THE RECOMMENDATIONS WERE NOT PRIORITIZED, BUT YOU'LL SEE THAT THERE IS A STRONG RECOMMENDATION WAS MADE BY THE COMMITTEE AND THE COMMITTEE WAS ASKED NOT TO LIMIT SCOPE ON RECOMMENDATION DUE TO CONCERNS REGARDING COSTS.

SO WE WERE NEVER GIVEN HOW MUCH SOMETHING COSTS AT THE TIME.

WE WERE JUST TOLD TO PLEASE DO OUR WORK AND AS WELL AS NOT GIVEN A LIMIT ON NUMBER OF RECOMMENDATIONS.

SO ULTIMATELY THE STATE LEGISLATURE MAKES THE BUDGETARY DECISIONS ON FUNDING ALLOCATIONS TO SCHOOLS.

SO JUST BEAR THAT IN MIND AS OR GOING THROUGH AND YOU'LL BE SEEING SOME OF THE SOME OF THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE THE RECOMMENDATIONS. SO THE KEY COMPONENTS, AGAIN, ARE SALARY REBASING, REGIONALIZATION AND THE BOUNDARY EFFECTS OF REGIONALIZATION POLICIES, ADJUSTMENTS TO INFLATIONARY FACTORS, EXPERIENCE FACTORS FOR CERTIFICATED INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF AND ANALYSIS AND STRATEGIES TO ADDRESS WORKFORCE NEEDS, COMPENSATION ADJUSTMENTS TO SUPPORT EQUITY AND COMPENSATION TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN A MORE DIVERSE WORKFORCE.

AND SO HERE'S OUR STRONG RECOMMENDATION.

THE. A STRONG RECOMMENDATION INCLUDES RECOMMENDS THAT THE LEGISLATURE FULLY IMPLEMENT THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT WORKGROUP RECOMMENDATION PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTING INCREASING STATE BASED SALARY ALLOCATIONS.

AND THE REASON THAT THE COMMITTEE WAS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS AS BEING A STRONG RECOMMENDATION IS THAT IF INCREASES TO BASE COMPENSATION WERE TO HAPPEN PRIOR TO BEING FULLY FUNDED FOR STAFFING, WHAT THAT DOES, IT MAY MAKE A DISTRICT LESS ABLE TO AFFORD THE EXISTING STAFF THEY FUND THROUGH LOCAL LEVIES, AND THEN ALSO THAT THE COMMITTEE CONCLUDED THAT INCREASING SALARIES AND WAGES AT THE EXPENSE OF EXISTING AND FUTURE STAFFING POSITIONS WOULD BE PROBLEMATIC.

PROBLEMATIC CONSEQUENCES.

SO THIS IS THE SAME SITUATION WHERE, YOU KNOW, WE RECEIVE AN INFLATIONARY FACTOR INCREASE IN OUR FUNDING, LIKE THE 5.5% IPD THAT WAS PROVIDED TO DISTRICTS AS AN ALLOCATION TO TO INCREASE SALARIES. BUT IF THAT ALLOCATION IS ONLY PROVIDED ON THE NUMBER OF STAFFING THAT WE'RE FUNDED FOR, THEN IT'S

[01:20:04]

REALLY NOT A 5.5% ALLOCATION, RIGHT? SO WHEN IT'S THE SAME KIND OF THE SAME ANALOGY, WHEN YOU'RE INCREASING BASE SALARIES, IT IT TRICKLES OVER INTO THE LEVY FUNDED STAFF.

SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU.

AND THAT'S WAS SPO ALSO LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY IS THE ENRICHMENT COMMITTEE.

NOW I PUT A LINK TO THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT WORK GROUP.

THEY WERE FROM 2019.

THEY ADDRESS STAFFING FOR SCHOOLS AND FULLY STAFFING THEN A NUMBER OF STAFFING.

IT REALLY ACTUALLY REQUIRES TO RUN A SCHOOL DISTRICT VERSUS THE FUNDING FOR STAFFING FROM FROM THE STATE.

THE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE STATE BASED SALARY ALLOCATION.

SO THERE IS THERE'S ALLOCATION AND THEN THERE'S WHAT'S ACTUALLY PAID TO.

AND SO THESE ARE STATE WIDE AVERAGES.

SO THESE ARE NOT FOR BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT, THEY'RE NOT FOR SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT OR SPOKANE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THESE ARE AVERAGES AND THESE ARE AFTER REGIONALIZATION.

SO FOR CERTIFICATED INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF, THE AVERAGE FOR THE STATE WOULD BE 98,000.

AND THIS IS FROM AN ALLOCATION OF 79000 TO 74.

BUT AS YOU CAN SEE DOWN BELOW, THERE'S A ASTERISK.

THE PROJECTED AVERAGE PAID SALARY IS FOR A SSIS CERTIFICATE AND STRUCTURAL STEP IS 95,003 46, AND THAT HAS TO DO WITH CONTRACTED SALARIES.

AND AND SO THAT'S HOW THAT CHANGES BASED OFF OF THE ACTUAL ALLOCATION THAT IS PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS.

AND SO AND THEN FOR CLASSIFIED STAFF, THAT'S BASED ON A FULL TIME A YEAR ROUND, 12 MONTH STAFF MEMBER IS 70,000 FROM 56 869 AND THEN THE PAID IS 67,003 63.

AND THEN A NEW CATEGORY WAS WE HEARD THIS QUITE A BIT THAT THERE NEEDED TO BE A SEPARATE CATEGORY FOR CLASSIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF.

AND SO THAT WOULD BE A NEW CATEGORY BASED ON 2080, 12 MONTH ANNUAL, AND THAT'S 150,500 FROM 56 869, BECAUSE CURRENTLY THE CLASSIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AND CLASSIFIED STAFF ARE COMBINED TOGETHER RIGHT NOW.

SO THAT'S WHY YOU SEE THOSE FIGURES ARE THE SAME FOR EACH OF THOSE.

THEN FOR THE AND YOU CAN SEE DOWN BELOW THE CLASSIFIED CURRENTLY 124 TO 80 FOR THE CLASSIFIED ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF, THE CERTIFICATED ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF IS ALSO IS 150,500 FROM 117,006 71.

AND THE CURRENT AVERAGE IS ACTUALLY MORE THAT THEY'RE CURRENTLY PAID IS 169 948.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS I REALLY WANT TO POINT OUT IS THE COMMITTEE RECOGNIZED WE AREN'T EXPERTS IN JOB CLASSIFICATIONS AND JOB TYPES.

AND WE WERE WORKING WITH DATA FROM THE EMPLOYMENT SECURITY DEPARTMENT AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TRY TO GET LIKE JOBS TOGETHER.

SO THE COMMITTEE IN THE RECOMMENDATION DID ASK FOR A THAT THERE BE MORE EXPERTISE GIVEN TO THIS AREA TO MAKE SURE THAT THESE ARE THE CORRECT NUMBERS, BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE WE SAY APPROXIMATE AND WE KNOW THAT THEY'RE KIND OF CLOSE TO SOME OF THE AVERAGES, BUT WE JUST DIDN'T FEEL COMFORTABLE ENOUGH THAT WE WERE THAT WE HAD ENOUGH TIME AND AND INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US THAT WE WERE COMFORTABLE WITH THOSE NUMBERS.

SO WE'VE ASKED FOR MORE WORK ON THAT.

NEXT IS REGIONALIZATION.

SO THE UPDATES TO REGIONALIZATION AND TO MITIGATE THE BOUNDARY EFFECTS OF REGIONALIZATION POLICIES.

SO WE FOUND THIS RIGHT WHEN REGIONALIZATION HAPPENED AND WE HAD A SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT WE BORDER WITH THAT HAD A HIGHER REGIONALIZATION RATE THAN WE DID.

AND SO AND THAT MADE IT COMPLICATED FOR YOU ALL DRAW FROM THE SAME LABOR POOL IN AN AREA.

SO THE SO THE RECOMMENDATION IS TO TO PROVIDE AN REGIONALIZATION BASED ON A AVERAGE SALARY LEVELS OR LABOR MARKET WAGES IN A GEOGRAPHICAL AREA.

[01:25:04]

SO THEY PULLED GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS USING DIFFERENT SOURCES.

AND AND YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS ARE LOCATED IN THOSE COLORED THAT COLORED BOX THERE AND TABLES.

I DID ASK FOR THE CLARK COUNTY AREA TO BE INCLUDED IN THE PORTLAND LABOR MARKET BECAUSE WE PULL FROM THAT LABOR MARKET. SO THAT'S PART OF OUR GEOGRAPHICAL AREA THAT WE THAT WE COMPETE FOR WITH, FOR SALARY, FOR, FOR STAFFING.

SO THAT PUT US WITH THE AT THE 16% TIER THE NEXT TO SEATTLE TIER.

SO SO WE ARE INCREASING.

SO THE CURRENT TIERS THERE'S FOUR CURRENT TIERS 0%, 6%, 12% AND 18%.

AND SO TO TRY TO MINIMIZE THE BOUNDARY EFFECTS, IT WOULD BE FIVE TIERS AT 10%, 12%, 14%, 16% AND 18%. AND BATTLE GROUND WOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE 16% REGIONALIZATION.

AND SO THIS WAS DEFINITELY ONE OF THE MORE INTERESTING WAYS OF LOOKING AT IT, AND I THINK ONE OF THE MOST APPROPRIATE WAYS OF LOOKING AT REGIONALIZATION.

WE WANTED A STRONG APPEAL PROCESS IF THERE'S ISSUES ON A CERTAIN LABOR MARKET AND WE HEARD FROM OUR ISLAND FOLKS UP IN THE SAN JUAN ISLANDS THAT EVEN THOUGH THEIR LABOR MARKET MAY NOT BE THE SAME, THEIR COST OF LIVING IS QUITE DIFFERENT FOR HOUSING, SO THAT THEY WOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO TALK ABOUT THEIR REGIONALIZATION FOR THEIR AREA BECAUSE IT MAY NOT BE APPROPRIATE FOR THEIR AREA. SO A STRONG APPEAL PROCESS WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMITTEE AND SEVERAL MEMBERS ON THE ON OUR TEAM SO THAT WE COULD BE ABLE TO ALLOW THAT WASN'T AN OPTION FOR THE MOST PART IN REGIONALIZATION WHEN IT WAS SET INITIALLY.

SO MOVING ON TO INFLATIONARY AND EXPERIENCED FACTORS.

SO CURRENTLY, AS YOU KNOW, OUR INFLATIONARY INCREASE THAT WE FOR OUR ALLOCATION IS IPD, WHICH IS THE IMPLICIT PRICE DEFLATOR AND THE IPD IS TIED TO GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT.

SO WE REALLY FOUND IT JUST REALLY DIDN'T MEET THE NEEDS OF TYING SALARIES TO THE COST OF CONSUMER GOODS. SO AND SO THE COMMITTEE WAS VERY, VERY THERE'S THE CONSENSUS WAS GREAT ON THIS TO CHANGE IT BACK TO THE CONSUMER PRICE INDEX ALL URBAN CONSUMERS FOR SEATTLE AND WE HAD IT FIXED ON A CERTAIN DATE SO THAT WHEN LEGISLATIVE SESSION GOES IN, THEY KNOW WHAT IT'S GOING TO BE.

THERE'S NO GUESSING AT THE VERY END OF THE SESSION, WHICH WAS QUITE PROBLEMATIC WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO CREATE A BUDGET BECAUSE WE'RE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF BUDGETS RIGHT THEN AND WE'RE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT ALL THE NET EFFECT WILL BE, BECAUSE AGAIN, THE THE INFLATIONARY ALLOCATION IS NOT, YOU KNOW, ISN'T TIED TO ALL SALARIES.

SO THIS WAS REALLY WE FELT THAT THIS WAS A GOOD THING TO HAVE IT TIGHT SO THAT IT COULD BE RIGHT THERE UP FRONT IN THE FEBRUARY REPORT.

IT COMES OUT SO IT'S NOT IN ITS THROUGH JANUARY, BUT IT'S IN THE FEBRUARY REPORT IS WHEN IT'S RELEASED AND THEN UPDATES TO EXPERIENCE FACTOR.

WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED STAFF MEMBERS THAT THAT MAY NOT BE IN THE AVERAGE, THAT MAY NOT BE PART OF THE AVERAGE SALARY BECAUSE WE ARE GIVEN AN AVERAGE SALARY.

AND SO IT WAS IMPORTANT THAT THAT BE ADJUSTED UPWARDS PER DISTRICT THAT EXCEED THE STATEWIDE AVERAGE FOR CERTIFICATED INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF EXPERIENCE OR DEGREES.

AND WE REFERENCED HB 1419, WHICH IS COVERS MOST OF THIS ON EXPERIENCE.

AND THEN ALSO ONE OF THE THINGS WAS RECOMMENDING PARA EDUCATOR DEGREES CERTIFICATES AND EXPERIENCE SHOULD BE TRACKED AT THE STATE ALLOCATION INCREASES FOR EXCEEDING STATEWIDE AVERAGE AS WELL.

WE THOUGHT THAT THAT MIGHT BE AN IMPORTANT THING TO HAVE FOR FOR SALARIES, ALLOCATING SALARIES.

AND SO THE HR DEPARTMENT IS NOT GOING TO BE HAPPY WITH ME.

BUT THAT WAS THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO BECAUSE IT'S A LOT OF WORK TO TRACK SALARIES OR I'M SORRY, TO TRACK EXPERIENCE.

[01:30:08]

EXCUSE ME. SO BUT IT'S AN IMPORTANT AND IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF OUR OF EDUCATORS.

NEXT WAS BONUSES AND TRANSPORTATION.

SO STATE BONUSES AND THESE ARE STATE THROUGH THE STATE GRANT SYSTEM.

THESE WOULD NOT COME THROUGH APPORTIONMENT.

THEY WOULD COME THROUGH THE STATE GRANT SYSTEM AND TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN AS STAFF WHO WORK IN HIGH PROPERTY SCHOOLS, RURAL AND TRIBAL SCHOOLS, SPECIAL EDUCATION AND PROFICIENT SPEAK THE LANGUAGE UNIQUE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES.

WE FELT THAT THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ATTRACTING AND RETAINING IN THOSE SCHOOLS AND THEN NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER BONUSES FOR INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF WHO CURRENTLY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE BONUSES BY VIRTUE OF THEIR JOB CLASSIFICATION.

THERE ARE JUST CERTAIN CITIES THAT DO NOT THAT AREN'T ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE IN THE NATIONAL BOARD BONUSES AND THEN TRANSPORTATION OF FUNDING ALLOCATION THAT'S TRANSPARENT AND RELIABLE AND ADEQUATE RESOURCES TO HIRE AND RETAIN STAFF.

IT'S THE TRANSPORTATION, THE WAY THAT THE FUNDING ALLOCATION, IT'S IT'S VERY CONFUSING AND IT'S NOT A VERY GOOD SYSTEM.

IT'S NOT VERY TRANSPARENT, AND IT'S DIFFICULT TO PLAN FOR TRANSPORTATION FUNDING.

NEXT IS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MENTORS, TAPPING AND WORKLOAD, THE MENTOR PROGRAMS FOR BEGINNING EDUCATORS.

WE ALREADY HAVE A BEST PROGRAM, SO THIS IS PART OF BEST.

BUT IN PART OF THAT WITH THE CERTIFICATED INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF WAS TO ENSURE MENTORS RECEIVED DIRECT SUPPORTS TO ENSURE SUCCESS.

WE HEARD THAT THERE WAS SOME KIND OF, YOU KNOW, A LITTLE BIT OF DISCONNECT IN SOME OF THOSE PROGRAMS, SO A LITTLE BIT MORE OF A OF A OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS THAT THE PROGRAMS ARE ACTUALLY WORKING AS INTENDED AND ALSO AN INCREASE TO A THIRD YEAR OF THAT AS WELL, AND THEN REDUCED PRINCIPAL TURNOVER IN RURAL AND HIGH POVERTY SCHOOLS BY HAVING MENTOR PROGRAMS FOR OUR PRINCIPALS AND THEN AS WELL AS PEER EDUCATORS AND BUS DRIVERS.

SO THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO SEE THAT THOSE THOSE MENTOR PROGRAMS WERE HAPPENING FOR THOSE JOB TYPES, STAFFING AND WORKLOAD ISSUES WAS A REAL, UM, WAS A REAL ISSUE THAT THE COMMITTEE REALLY WANTED TO TACKLE.

WE REALLY AGAIN, THIS IS THE FULLY IMPLEMENT STAFFING LEVELS RECOMMENDED BY THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT WORK GROUP.

SO THAT'S WHERE THIS CAME UP.

AND THEN WE FELT THAT INCREASING FUNDING FOR SCHOOL SUBSTITUTE EMPLOYEES TO BETTER REFLECT THE NUMBER OF DAYS SUBSTITUTES ARE USED AND THE COST ASSOCIATED WITH HIRING.

AND CURRENTLY THE STATE FUNDS FOUR DAYS FOR CERTIFICATED INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF ONLY AND THEY ONLY FUND $151.86, WHICH INCLUDES THE EMPLOYER BENEFITS.

SO THE CURRENT ON THE CONSENT AGENDA WOULD BE WITH BENEFITS IS ABOUT $196 FOR A FULL DAY SUBSTITUTE.

AND SO SO THERE'S QUITE A GAP.

AND SO WE WANTED BOTH WHAT IT ACTUALLY COST AS WELL AS THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF DAYS AND I DON'T KNOW OUR AVERAGE DAYS OF SUBSTITUTES, BUT I DO KNOW IT'S PROBABLY MORE THAN FOUR DAYS FOR EACH ONE OF OUR STAFF FOR FOR THE CONTRACTED.

WE HAVE SICK DAYS AS WELL AS PERSONAL DAYS.

AND ALSO THAT INCLUDES CLASSIFIED.

WE DO NOT RECEIVE ANY FUNDING FOR SUBSTITUTES FOR CLASSIFIED STAFF.

SO IF WE DO HAVE CUSTODIANS THAT ARE OUT THAT WE NEED TO BRING IN A SUBSTITUTE TO CLEAN THE BUILDING THAT IS NOT PROVIDED BY THE STATE.

AND THEN FULLY FUNDING STAFFING FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION WAS IS DEFINITELY IT'S AND THAT'S PART OF THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT GROUP.

BUT WE REALLY ALL NEED TO BE WORKING ON THAT.

AND THAT IS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY.

I KNOW FOR MANY OF US, INCLUDING WASBO A MORE ROBUST SYSTEM TO DETERMINE FISCAL IMPACT OF PROPOSED LEGISLATION, ENSURE FUNDING IS PROVIDED TO SCHOOLS UPON IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW PROGRAMS. SO THIS WAS THIS WAS ONE OF MY PROPOSALS, INCLUDING THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT WORK GROUP AS BEING A PRIORITY WAS THE WHENEVER THERE ARE MANDATES THAT ARE THAT ARE THAT ARE PASSED BY OUR LEGISLATORS, WE WANT THEM TO FUND THOSE AND NOT JUST ADD

[01:35:09]

ADDITIONAL WORKLOAD ONTO THE SCHOOLS.

AND SO THAT'S THAT WAS JUST REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE WE SEE THAT EVERY YEAR SOMETHING COMING DOWN THAT WE ARE REQUIRED TO IMPLEMENT AND THEN THERE IS NO FUNDING PROVIDED FOR IT.

AND IT IS IT BECOMES A WORKLOAD ISSUE AND BURDEN TO THE SCHOOLS.

SO THIS WAS REALLY IMPORTANT.

SO THERE WERE SOME OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS.

I'LL GO THROUGH THESE QUICKLY.

THE STATE A STATEWIDE RECRUITING SYSTEM FOR EDUCATORS.

WE FELT THAT APPLICATIONS ARE DIFFERENT FROM SCHOOL TO SCHOOL AND THAT HAVING A STATEWIDE APPLICATION SYSTEM, WHICH COULD BE EVENTUALLY IF A STAFF MEMBER WAS HIRED OR WAS BEING INTERVIEWED, THIS THE DISTRICT CAN DO SOMETHING DIFFERENTLY, BUT IT MAKES THE APPLICATION MORE UNIFORM AND A LITTLE BIT EASIER TO TO NAVIGATE AND THEN AMPLE RESOURCES FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE FIRST PEOPLE LANGUAGE, CULTURAL AND ORAL TRIBAL TRADITIONS FOR TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM BETWEEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND LOCAL TRIBES.

ESTABLISH STATE GRANT PROGRAMS WHERE LOCAL HOUSING SHORTAGES IMPACT ATTRACTING AND RETAINING STAFF FOR RURAL AND TRIBAL LANDS.

WE HEARD FROM SOME, WE HEARD SOME REALLY GREAT TESTIMONY ON THIS AND IT'S SAD ACTUALLY TESTIMONY WHERE THERE WERE SOME VERY RURAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS. I MEAN, WE'RE TALKING SMALL ENROLLMENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THERE WAS NO ABSOLUTELY NO HOUSING.

AND STAFF WERE DRIVING, YOU KNOW, QUITE A DISTANCE TO GET INTO THAT.

AND HOW SOME OF THOSE HOUSING THAT WAS THERE HAD BEEN THERE WAS A LOT OF INVESTORS THAT WERE PURCHASING THESE HOUSES.

SO IT WAS IMPORTANT TO US TO BE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN GET A STAFFING OUT TO THOSE SCHOOLS AND THAT WILL STAY AND BE RETAINED OUT OF THOSE SCHOOLS.

A LOCAL LOAN DEFERRAL PROGRAM IN COORDINATION WITH FEDERAL LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM.

AGAIN, WE DON'T HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS OF HOW THIS LOOKS.

YOU KNOW, EXACTLY WHAT THE PROGRAM WOULD LOOK LIKE.

BUT IT'S JUST THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS WAS A THIS WAS A PRIORITY FOR QUITE A FEW OF OUR PRESENTERS.

SO THAT WAS PUT INTO THE THE FOLDED INTO THE RECOMMENDATION, INCREASED INVESTMENT AND EFFORTS IN RECRUITING AND RETAINING NATIVE EDUCATORS AS WELL AS EXPANDING ALTERNATIVE ROUTES AND GROW YOUR OWN PROGRAMS. SO, YES, SO THOSE WERE THE THOSE WERE THE OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS.

SO AT THE VERY END WE RECEIVED AN UPDATE FROM OSPI.

THEY PROJECTED THE COST OF THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS AND FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION, THE FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF ALL THE RECOMMENDATIONS, YOU'RE LOOKING AT AN ANNUAL COST OF 12 BILLION, 141,259,000.

SO LET ME PUT THAT INTO PERSPECTIVE FOR YOU.

SO THE STATE BUDGET ALONE IS 30, THE ANNUAL ANNUAL STATE BUDGET, THIS IS NOT THE BIENNIAL IS A $32,000,000, EXCUSE ME, $32 BILLION.

AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS RIGHT NOW RECEIVE ABOUT $14 BILLION OF THAT ANNUALLY TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

SO THIS IS AN ANNUAL COST OF $14 BILLION IS CURRENTLY BEING PROVIDED FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

THIS IS $12 BILLION IN ADDITION TO THAT 14 BILLION TO IMPLEMENT ALL THOSE PROGRAMS. SO IT IS A VERY LARGE REQUEST TO THE STATE, BUT IT REALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE FUNDING ISSUE WITH THE STATE AND HOW THERE IS SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY THAT TO HELP INCREASE FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS AND STAFFING AND BRING THE FUNDING ALLOCATION UP TO WHERE IT SHOULD BE.

SO IT REALLY DID CREATE QUITE A HIGHLIGHT ON THIS.

SO I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THERE IS MY CONTACT INFORMATION.

THIS PRESENTATION WILL BE POSTED ON THE BOARD DOCS FOR THE PUBLIC TO VIEW AND THEY CAN CONTACT ME IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

THERE IS ALSO A LINK ON THE PRESENTATION TO THE BASIC EDUCATION COMPENSATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE WEB PAGE ON OSPI, AS WELL AS THE STAFFING ENRICHMENT WORKGROUP.

[01:40:02]

THERE WAS A LINK AS WELL ON THAT TO LOOK AT THAT.

SO I HAVE GIVEN YOU A LOT OF INFORMATION.

ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? IT'S LIKE A MINI WORK SESSION.

I'M SO SORRY THAT THAT WAS LONG, BUT IT WAS QUITE A BIT OF WORK, SO I'M TRYING TO CONSOLIDATE IT ALL INTO THIS SHORT PRESENTATION.

IT'S HIGHLY UNLIKELY THAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE A $12 BILLION INCREASE FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION.

IS THERE? DO YOU SENSE ANY MOMENTUM AROUND ANY PARTICULAR ISSUES? I SEE MOMENTUM AROUND REGIONALIZATION.

I THINK THAT THAT HAS BEEN A REALLY WHEN REGIONALIZATION WAS IMPLEMENTED, I THINK THERE WAS QUITE A FEW CHALLENGES FOR DISTRICTS WHEN THAT HAPPENS.

SO I SEE REGIONALIZATION AS BEING I THINK THEY WILL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE STAFFING, ENRICHMENT AND INCREASING STAFFING. I THINK THAT WE'LL SEE SOMETHING THERE, I HOPE.

AND THEN AS WELL AS SPECIAL EDUCATION, I COULD HOPE THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME MORE EMPHASIS IN THE SPECIAL EDUCATION.

SO BUT IT'S YOU KNOW, I HAVEN'T SEEN THE GOVERNOR'S RECOMMENDATION, HIS BUDGET, AS YOU KNOW, AS WELL AS THE STATE SUPERINTENDENT. I DON'T THINK HE'S RELEASED HIS YET.

SO WE'LL WE'LL KNOW MORE ONCE THOSE ARE RELEASED AND WHERE THE PRIORITIES WILL WILL BE.

SO. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

YOU'RE WELCOME. I'D LIKE TO JUST SAY AS AS MICHELLE IS EXITING, THAT I PERSONALLY WITNESSED THE AMOUNT OF TIME, THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT, THE AMOUNT OF ENERGY THAT SHE PUT INTO THIS WORK.

I ALSO HAVE HEARD FROM SEVERAL OF MY COLLEAGUES FROM AROUND THE STATE WHO HAVE RECOGNIZED THAT MICHELLE WAS CERTAINLY AN ACTIVE VOICE AND PARTICIPANT AND AND CONTRIBUTOR TO THE WORK THAT WAS DONE.

AND THEY HAVE SUNG HER PRAISES AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR REPRESENTING BATTLE GROUND PUBLIC SCHOOLS SO WELL AND THANK YOU FOR REPRESENTING THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS SO WELL.

APPRECIATE IT. YOU'RE WELCOME.

IT'S NICE TO HAVE SOMEBODY WHO WAS ON THE COMMITTEE BE ABLE TO GIVE THAT REPORT AND GIVE THAT INSIDE INFORMATION RATHER THAN GETTING IT SECOND HAND.

SO THANK YOU, MICHELLE.

YOU'RE WELCOME, MR. JOLMA? ALL RIGHT, LIVE UPDATE.

WATER LINES BACK ON BATTLE GROUND HIGH AND CAM WILL BE FINE.

MY BLADDER THANKS YOU.

OKAY. ALL RIGHT, CAM, AS YOU'VE NOTICED, OUR FIRST FOUNDATION IS IN FOR OUR FIRST BUILDING.

A SITE IS REALLY TAKING SHAPE.

RAN INTO A WATERLINE TONIGHT.

I HAVE A SITE VISIT.

NEXT WEDNESDAY, I'M GOING TO GO DOWN TO THE FACTORY WHERE THE FIRST MODULAR IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

NAIL DOWN OUR DELIVERY TIME, AND WE'LL ALSO BE FINISHING UP THE DESIGN ON THE THIRD BUILDING.

THE SECOND BUILDING IS ALREADY DESIGNED AND IN PROCESS, THE THIRD BUILDING IS A UNIQUE ONE WE'VE NEVER DONE BEFORE AN ADMIN BUILDING, A LIBRARY AND A CAFETERIA. SO WE'RE JUST TRYING TO FIND OUT WHERE THE BEST SPOTS ARE TO PUT THE WALLS AS WE BREAK UP ON THE MODULAR, SINCE IT'S NOT A SIMPLE STICK FRAME.

CONSTRUCTION AND I SHOULD HAVE A BETTER UPDATE ON OUR EXACT TIMELINE, BUT I'M STILL ANTICIPATING CHRISTMAS BREAK MOVING THEM IN.

THANK YOU, KEVIN. AND LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, OUR COMMUNICATIONS REPORT BY AMANDA RICHTER.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD EVENING.

WANTED TO SHARE SOME DATA FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE'S WORK IN SEPTEMBER.

FOLLOWING BOARD POLICY, OUR STRATEGIC PLAN AND BEST PRACTICES.

WE USE MANY DIFFERENT METHODS TO COMMUNICATE WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS.

FROM SENDING MESSAGES DIRECTLY TO FAMILIES AND STAFF AND REACHING THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR BULLETIN, AS WELL AS SENDING PRESS RELEASES FOR POTENTIAL MEDIA PLACEMENT.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE REACH A LOT OF PEOPLE THROUGH THOSE DIRECT MESSAGES TO FAMILY AND STAFF.

WE KNOW THAT THERE'S SOME INFORMATION THAT PEOPLE PREFER TO HAVE SENT TO THEM DIRECTLY, AND WE WORK TO PROVIDE IT IN A NUMBER OF WAYS FROM PHONE CALLS AND EMAILS TO TEXT MESSAGES AND MOBILE APP NOTIFICATIONS.

AND WE ALSO USE SEVERAL DIFFERENT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. SO AS YOU CAN SEE, FACEBOOK IS OUR BIGGEST PLATFORM IN TERMS OF ITS REACH.

[01:45:02]

IT'S MORE THAN DOUBLE THE NUMBER OF FOLLOWERS OF OUR TWITTER ACCOUNT.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

AND SO HERE YOU CAN SEE WHAT RESONATED WITH OUR STAKEHOLDERS AND FOLLOWERS MOST IN TERMS OF THE CONTENT.

SO AS YOU MIGHT HAVE GUESSED, FOR SEPTEMBER BACK TO SCHOOL WAS A VERY POPULAR TOPIC.

ON THE RIGHT IS THE TOP FACEBOOK POST OF THE MONTH, WHICH FEATURES PRESIDENT WATRIN AND SUPERINTENDENT WATERS AT GLENWOOD HEIGHTS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

AND BELOW IT IS THE TOP ISSUE OF THE BGPS BULLETIN FOR THE MONTH WITH THE TERRIFIC VIDEO WE WATCHED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO THAT WAS CREATED BY CHRIS BROWN AND JENNA BUSH-HILL FOR WHOM CREDIT GOES FOR ALL THIS GREAT WORK, ALONG WITH MY PREDECESSOR, RITA SANDERS.

ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? THANK YOU. YEAH.

NICE TO SEE THE NUMBERS ON THAT.

YEAH, IT'S VERY IMPRESSIVE AND CERTAINLY GOES.

I THINK WHAT I HAVE APPRECIATED ABOUT AMANDA'S PRESENCE IN OUR COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT IS THAT SHE'S REALLY TAKEN TO HEART OUR STRATEGIC PLAN.

AND THE BOARD BELIEVES, YOU KNOW, AND YOU TALK ABOUT COMMUNICATING CONSISTENTLY THROUGH A VARIETY OF METHODS TO REACH ALL STAKEHOLDERS.

AND THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THAT AND GOOD DATA FOR US TO KEEP AND SEE WHAT'S GOING ON AND HOW MUCH WE REALLY DO COMMUNICATE.

SO THAT'S IT FOR US. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

GREAT. OK BRINGS US TO CITIZEN'S COMMENTS.

[8. Citizens' Comments]

JESSICA COLE, THANKS FOR GOING THROUGH ALL THAT.

I HOPE YOU FEEL SMARTER ABOUT ALL THE BUDGET STUFF.

JESSICA CAME IN A LITTLE BIT LATE, SO I'M NOT FEELING TOO BAD THAT SHE HAD YOU KNOW, I WAS WATCHING.

I MEAN, I WAS I WAS WATCHING.

I MISSED SEEING YOU HERE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING, SO I WAS IN TIME OUT OR SOMETHING.

HELLO, BOARD. MY NAME IS JESSICA COLE.

MY PRONOUNS ARE SHE/HER.

I'M A PARENT OF ALUMNI IN THE DISTRICT.

I WAS ON THIS TOPIC.

DIDN'T KNOW YOU TALK ON IT.

BUT TODAY IS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY AND WE ARE ON THE TRADITIONAL LANDS OF THE COWLITZ INDIAN TRIBE.

TOMORROW, WHICH IS THE 11TH, IS COMING OUT DAY AND THAT'S BEEN GOING ON SINCE 1988.

AND THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IS ALSO LGBT HISTORY MONTH, AND THAT WAS STARTED BY A TEACHER, A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER, RODNEY WILSON, IN 1994. AND I'M HERE TO TALK ABOUT DRUG TAKEBACK AND THE ARTICLE, WHICH IT'S FUNNY THAT SOMETHING THAT I WAS THINKING AND YOU ALL ARE TALKING ABOUT IS THE ONE LIST THAT GOES OUT TO THE FAMILIES I DON'T GET BECAUSE WE'RE NOT A FAMILY ANYMORE.

SOMETIMES IT'S LIKE, OH, I WISH I HAD THAT INFORMATION, BUT I HAVE FRIENDS THAT SHARE IT SOMETIMES.

AND I APPRECIATE THE ARTICLE THAT YOU DID ON THE RAINBOW FENTANYL AND THE SYNTHETIC OPIOIDS.

AND SO I JUST WISH THAT WOULD GO OUT TO MORE PEOPLE.

BUT YOU HAVE MILLIONS OF THINGS TO UPDATE PEOPLE ON.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE? AND SO DRUG TAKEBACK IS ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29TH, FROM 10 TO 2, AND THAT'S AT BATTLE GROUND POLICE DEPARTMENT AGAIN. AND THEN ALSO IN YOUR NEWS, NO, THERE WAS WELL, ACTUALLY, I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT WAS, BUT I THINK YOU JUST IGNORE WHAT THAT HE SAID.

I WANT TO SAY THAT THE DANGERS OF FENTANYL IN OUR COMMUNITY IS A PRESENTATION THAT'S GOING TO BE PUT ON BY THE CLARK AND VANCOUVER REGIONAL DRUG TASK FORCE AT CHIEF ON THE 19TH AT 6 P.M..

AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH TIME I HAVE.

SO I THINK THAT'S JUST REALLY A REALLY IMPORTANT EVENT TO FOR ALL ADULTS TO GO TO, TO KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE FROM THE RAINBOW/SKITTLE FENTYNOL THAT'S GOING AROUND RIGHT NOW.

THAT'S IN OREGON FOR SURE.

AND I'M NOT GOING TO QUOTE ANY MORE FACTS IN CASE I'M WRONG.

AND SO BUT I AND I EVEN THOUGH I DON'T HAVE MINOR CHILDREN ANYMORE, THIS IS LIKE IMPORTANT TO ME.

SO I'M TALKING TO MY KIDS ABOUT THIS, TOO.

LIKE, I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS.

IT'S, I'LL SAY, IT'S EXTREMELY LETHAL AND I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU, JESSICA. AND IF YOU NEED TO CHECK THE TIME, YOU CAN ALWAYS GLANCE TO THAT.

IT'S OVER THERE. OH, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. CAN'T HAVE YOUR 27 SECONDS.

YEAH, YOU ALREADY SIGNED OFF.

OKAY. NEXT UP, WORD IS OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[9. Consent Agenda]

OUR ITEMS ON CONSENT AGENDA INCLUDE ITEM A APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA, ITEM B, APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 26TH, 2022 REGULAR MEETING AND THEN THE APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 26TH SPECIAL MEETING.

IF YOU WISH TO HAVE ANY OF THOSE ITEMS CONSIDERED SEPARATELY, NOW WOULD BE THE TIME TO.

CHANGE THAT. OKAY.

I'VE ASKED SORA TO HELP HIGHLIGHT, AS WE DID TIME BEFORE, ONE OF THE ITEMS THAT OTHERWISE WOULD JUST KIND OF GO THROUGH IN OUR APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA.

AND WHAT DID YOU PICK, SORA? I NOTICED THE DONATION FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL ENGINEERING AND MACHINING PROGRAM, AND I JUST THOUGHT THAT THAT WAS REALLY COOL.

$5,000 FOR THAT PROGRAM FROM THE ISLAM FAMILY FOUNDATION.

AND I HEARD THAT THAT'S A PRETTY HOW DO YOU SAY CONSISTENT LIKE, YOU KNOW, OVER AND OVER DONATION THAT THEY'VE BEEN GIVING.

SO THAT'S A REALLY COOL THING.

AND ALSO IN STUDENT TRAVEL, I WAS LOOKING AT THAT AND THAT WAS THE OH MY GOSH, I'M LOSING IT.

HOLD ON. THE WSSDA CONFERENCE AND I'M IN THAT.

SO YEAH, IT IMPACTS YOU.

YES. TRAVEL FOR ME AND RICARDO.

GREAT. YEAH, GREAT.

YES. AND SO THANK YOU FOR HIGHLIGHTING THOSE.

IT IS A BOARD POLICY NUMBER 611 FOR THAT.

ANY GIFT OVER $2,500 HAS TO COME THROUGH FOR BOARD APPROVAL.

I DON'T KNOW IF THAT NUMBER NEEDS UPDATING LIKE WE DID RECENTLY ON SOME OF THE OTHERS MIGHT CONSIDER THAT.

BUT I CERTAINLY HAVE REMEMBERED THE DONATION FROM THE ISLAM FAMILY FOUNDATION ALMOST YEARLY SINCE I'VE BEEN ON THE BOARD.

SO AGAIN, THANKS TO THAT COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR PROGRAMS HERE.

SO THAT'S HIGHLIGHTING ONE OF OUR CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS. NOBODY WANTED TO MOVE ANYTHING.

I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA.

I'LL MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA IS PRESENTED.

GREAT. IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED? CONSENT AGENDA IS APPROVED 5-0.

ALL BUSINESS IS ZERO.

BUT WE GOT A NUMBER OF NEW BUSINESS ITEMS.

[11. New Business]

SO STARTING WITH THE APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION H 22, PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES TO CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

MICHELE SCOTT? YES. FOR THIS RESOLUTION HAS IT'S A RESOLUTION THAT WE'VE HAD IN PLACE.

BUT WHAT THIS DOES IS IT ACTUALLY IT TAKES CARE OF THE, THE AMOUNT REQUIRING AUTHORIZATION THAT YOU APPROVED ON SEPTEMBER 28TH AT YOUR THAT YOUR REVISION TO BOARD POLICY 6210.

SO THIS BRINGS IT IN LINE WITH THAT POLICY.

AND SO THAT IS CHANGED FROM 75000 TO 150000 AS WELL AS FOR JILL SMITH, WHO HAS RETIRED FROM THE DISTRICT AND REPLACED WITH DAVID KENNEDY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.

SO THOSE ARE THE TWO CHANGES AND ASKING FOR YOUR APPROVAL.

ANY QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD? SO THAT WOULD NEED A MOTION.

I RECOMMEND THE BOARD TO PROVE RESOLUTION AGE 22, PROVIDING FOR CERTAIN EMPLOYEES TO CONTRACT ON BEHALF OF BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT.

IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE RESOLUTION H 22.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION H 22 PASSES 5-0.

THANK YOU. NEXT UP, CONTRACT APPROVAL FOR STUDENT PLACEMENT AT RESIDENTIAL EDUCATIONAL FACILITY ELLEN WIESSNER.

AND HE SAT THROUGH THE WHOLE MEANING TO GOOD JOB DID ENDURANCE.

THAT'S RIGHT. GOOD EVENING.

SO I HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU ASKING FOR YOUR APPROVAL ON A CONTRACT.

I HAVEN'T DONE THIS FOR A REALLY LONG TIME.

THIS IS A CONTRACT FOR A STUDENT'S PLACEMENT AT A RESIDENTIAL FACILITY.

YOU KNOW, WE JUST HAVE STUDENTS SOMETIMES WHOSE NEEDS ARE SO COMPLEX THAT THE SERVICES THAT WE HAVE IN THE DISTRICT, IN THE

[01:55:09]

REGION, IN THE STATE ARE JUST NOT AVAILABLE.

WE NEED SOMETHING VERY SPECIALIZED.

SO WE HAVE FOUND OURSELVES AND NEED TO PLACE A STUDENT AT A RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT FACILITY OUT OF STATE.

AND THAT IS WHAT THIS CONTRACT IS FOR.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HOW FEW PLACES LIKE THIS THERE ARE, HOW VERY FEW STATES THERE ARE.

DO YOU KNOW, LIKE IT'S JUST A HANDFUL OF STATES TO CHOOSE FROM THAT HAVE THESE PROGRAMS? YES. SO IT'S A HANDFUL OF STATES.

I YOU KNOW, THERE'S MORE THAN 100 OF THESE PROGRAMS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES, BUT THEY ARE ALL EACH VERY DIFFERENT AND THEY SPECIALIZE IN THE TYPE OF STUDENT, THE DISABILITY.

SO JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA FOR THIS PARTICULAR STUDENT, WE WERE REJECTED BY ABOUT 30 DIFFERENT FACILITIES BEFORE WE WERE ABLE TO SECURE ONE THAT WOULD MEET HIS NEEDS.

SO THEY ARE HARD TO COME BY.

AND YES, THERE ARE SOME STATES THAT DO HAVE MORE PROGRAMS THAN OTHERS.

WASHINGTON IS IS NOT THAT STATE.

ELENA HAS TO WHENEVER A DISTRICT CHOOSES, THEY CAN CHOOSE FROM A LIST OF APPROVED FACILITIES OR IF THE FACILITY IS NOT ON THE LIST YET, MOST LIKELY BECAUSE NOBODY HAS SENT A STUDENT IN THAT DIRECTION, YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO GO THROUGH A PRETTY COMPREHENSIVE PROCESS WHERE YOU GO TO THE FACILITY, CHECK IT OUT, MAKE SURE THAT IT MEETS ALL THE REQUIREMENTS THAT THE STATE HAS SET FORTH.

SO IT'S A IT'S A COMPLEX PROBLEM OR ISSUE.

THE GOOD NEWS FOR THIS THAT ELLEN DIDN'T MENTION WAS THE FACT THAT WHILE THE COSTS WILL BE SIGNIFICANT AND YOU'LL NOTICE THERE IS NO FIRST OF ALL, WE COULDN'T LIST THE CONTRACT BECAUSE OF SOME PRIVACY ISSUES THERE.

BUT FROM A FROM A TOTAL COST, IT WILL BE SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 400 AND 500,000.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THROUGH THE SAFETY NET PROCESS AND ELLEN HAS BEEN DILIGENT AND WORKING WITH THE STATE, WE COULD RECOUP A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THAT.

IS THAT AN ANNUAL COST OR A.

THAT'S AN ANNUAL COST.

OKAY. AND IT'S NOT IT'S NOT UNREASONABLE.

IT'S NOT OUT OF LINE.

YEAH. YEAH.

I'M GLAD YOU'RE OPENING LINE WAS.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS VERY OFTEN.

VERY OFTEN? NO.

BUT IT'S AN UNFORTUNATE REALITY.

IT'S A TOUGH DECISION TO MAKE AND.

YEAH, IT'S TOUGH FOR EVERYBODY.

IT'S TOUGH FOR THE STUDENT. IT'S TOUGH FOR THE FAMILY.

IT'S TOUGH FOR. YEAH.

YEAH. SO THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

SO WE WOULD NEED A MOTION FOR THE CONTRACT APPROVAL.

I'LL MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE CONTRACT FOR A STUDENT PLACEMENT AT A RESIDENTIAL EDUCATIONAL FACILITY FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES. THANK YOU.

WE'VE GOT A COUPLE ENTRYWAYS COMING UP.

SO MR. JOLMA WAS GOING TO TAKE THE STAGE FIRST WITH DAYBREAK.

SO CONTRACT FOR APPROVAL OF THE DAYBREAK PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY.

SO I BELIEVE EVERYBODY WAS HERE LAST BOARD MEETING.

OR DID WE? I WASN'T, BUT I KNOW THE PROJECT.

YOU KNOW THE PROJECT. YEAH. SO I WON'T GO DEEP INTO THE HISTORY AND ALL OF THAT IN THE BACKGROUND OF WHAT WE'RE DOING ON EACH SCHOOL.

BUT I WILL MENTION HERE ON DAYBREAK, YOU KNOW, WERE WE HAD WE HAD ORIGINALLY CONSTRUCTED THAT WITH THE SECURE VESTIBULES, ELECTRONIC DOOR MECHANISMS. AND SO YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THESE PRICES COMING DOWN.

THE FIRST THREE WE'RE ADDING STOREFRONTS AND ADDITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE.

SO THIS PROJECT IS AT $90,589.

AND WE'LL BE ADDING, LIKE I SAY, WE'LL BE ADDING THE AUDIO VISUAL SYSTEM AS WELL AS THE BEING ABLE TO HANDLE THE LOCKING THE DOOR LOCKS AS WELL AS CAMERAS AND VIEWING SCREEN IN THE MAIN OFFICE.

[02:00:06]

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS PROJECT? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH CONVERGENT FOR THE DAYBREAK PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY PROJECT.

THANK YOU. IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE DAYBREAK PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY PROJECT.

ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? DO YOU HAVE THE CONTRACT? IS THE CONTRACT ON? I JUST HAVE THAT QUESTION, I GUESS, BECAUSE I DON'T SEE IT ATTACHED ON MINE.

BUT I MEAN, IT DIDN'T COME IN UNTIL MONDAY OR.

NO, IT DIDN'T EVEN COME IN MONDAY.

I WAS LATE ON GETTING THE CONTRACT.

I HAD THE BACKUP IN THERE, BUT THE ACTUAL CONTRACT WASN'T ON BOARD, I DON'T THINK.

YEAH, BUT THEY WILL BE FROM NOW ON BEFORE.

YOU'VE GOT A MOTION? I DO HAVE MOTION ON THE FLOOR.

I'M WAITING TO SEE IF THERE'S ANY CHANGES TO THAT.

IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE DAYBREAK PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY PROJECT.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? NAY. AND I'LL JUST EXPLAIN THAT I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THE PROJECT.

I JUST WANT TO SEE A CONTRACT BEFORE I APPROVE IT.

UNDERSTOOD. THANK YOU.

GREAT. AND AS I DID THE SO THE LAST MEETING, THOSE THREE PROJECTS THAT WE APPROVED WAS GLENWOOD, CAPTAIN STRONG, AS WELL AS PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY.

AND I'VE RELEASED LETTERS OF INTENT AND NOTICE TO PROCEED.

SO OUR PLAN IS TO HAVE ALL THAT INFRASTRUCTURE IN AT CHRISTMAS, AND THESE OTHER PROJECTS WILL BE PROCEEDING IMMEDIATELY AS SOON AS WE CAN AFTER HOURS.

UM, OKAY.

SO IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE A SIMILAR SITUATION CONTRACT FOR APPROVAL.

THOSE ARE THE CONTRACTS IN FRONT OF YOU.

YEAH. YEAH. THEY'RE JUST NOT ON BOARD.

LAST TIME THAT'LL HAPPEN.

OKAY, SO ARMED CONTRACT APPROVED FOR THE MAPLE GROVE PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY PROJECT.

AGAIN, SIMILAR.

HOWEVER, BACK IN 2012, WE HAD STARTED SOME SECURITY UPGRADES AND WE CREATED A NEW SECURE FOR FOUR YEAR AT THAT BUILDING.

SO AGAIN, THESE PRICES ARE GOING TO BE LOWER BECAUSE WE'RE NOT ADDING DOORS, HARDWARE STORE FRONTS, BUT WE WILL BE ADDING THE CAMERAS, THE AUDIO VISUAL EQUIPMENT, THE DOOR LOCKING CONTROL, AS WELL AS VIEWING SCREENS IN THE MAIN OFFICE.

AND THIS PROJECT IS AT 104,009 21 AND WE'LL BE FUNDED THROUGH LEVY.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS PROJECT? THEN WAS THE MAPLE GROVE BUILDING BUILT.

FIRST WING WAS 88 AND LIKE 92, I THINK THEY DID ANOTHER EDITION.

OKAY. IT IS ELIGIBLE FOR FUNDING.

OH. GOOD TO KNOW.

WHAT IS THAT? THAT'S WHEN YOU CAN SEE STATE MATCH, BECAUSE THE BUILDING IS A CERTAIN AGE.

RIGHT. NOT THAT WE WOULD USE IT IN THIS CASE, BUT IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING.

IT'S GOT TO BE CLOSE I THINK THIS YEAR WHERE IT BECOMES, YEAH, THE ADDITION IS REAL CLOSE.

YEAH, I THINK IT'S THIS YEAR WHERE IT BECOMES ELIGIBLE AND BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL IS THE FOLLOWING YEAR.

YEAH. CORRECT.

2024. YEAH.

WHICH TELLS YOU WE HAVE SOME AGING BUILDINGS.

YEAH. SO FOR RIGHT NOW WE WANT TO SEE IF WE CAN IMPROVE THE SECURITY PART OF IT.

HUH? ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS ON THE MAPLE GROVE PROJECT? I RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE CONTRACT WITH CONVERGENT FOR THE MAPLE GROVE PRIMARY SCHOOL ENTRY SECURITY PROJECT.

IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE CONTRACT FOR MAPLE GROVE PRIMARY ENTRY SECURITY.

ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

THOSE OPPOSED NAY AND FOR THE SAME REASON AS BEFORE.

GREAT. FULLY SUPPORT THE PROJECT, THOUGH, AND I DON'T KNOW.

SO MOTION PASSES 4-1 LIKE THE PREVIOUS MOTION.

AND THANK YOU FOR THAT EXPLANATION.

THANK YOU. GOODBYE. OKAY, WE'RE ON TO ITEM E OF OUR NEW BUSINESS REVISION

[02:05:04]

OF POLICY 1630 EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.

IF YOU REMEMBER ABOUT A MONTH AGO, MARK SHARED WITH YOU SOME EXAMPLES OF POLICY THAT WERE OUT OF LINE BECAUSE THE DIDN'T MATCH CALENDAR DIDN'T MAKE SENSE IN TERMS OF EFFICIENT OPERATIONS FOR YOU AS A BOARD OR FOR US AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TEAM.

SO THESE ARE THE FIRST OF THOSE POLICIES THAT WE'RE MAKING, RECOMMENDING MINOR CHANGES.

ON THE FIRST POLICY 1630, THERE WERE TWO SLIGHT REVISIONS MADE TO POLICY 1630 EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.

YOU CAN SEE THAT FROM THE EXAMPLE.

THE FIRST REVISION REFLECTS THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REVIEW WITH THE BOARD REGARDING PROGRESS TOWARDS DISTRICT GOALS TO BE COMPLETED BY JANUARY 31ST.

IT USED TO SAY DECEMBER 31ST, AND THAT DIDN'T MAKE SENSE BECAUSE THE END OF THE SEMESTER IS THE HALFWAY POINT OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND THAT'S TYPICALLY RIGHT AROUND THE 28TH, 29TH, 30TH OF JANUARY.

SO THIS ALIGNS IT TO THAT.

AND THEN THE SECOND REVISION REFLECTS THE SUPERINTENDENT'S EVALUATION BE COMPLETED BY JULY 1ST OF EACH YEAR AS COMPARED TO JUNE 1ST. WE ALL KNOW THAT JUNE 1ST IS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, STUFF GOING ON AND IT'S DIFFICULT TO GET THINGS DONE.

I THINK LAST YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE IT IN THE MIDDLE OF JUNE, SO IT JUST PROVIDES US WITH A LITTLE MORE LEEWAY.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD MEMBERS? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 1630 EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. OKAY. SO IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY.

1630 EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

AYE. ALL THOSE OPPOSED? GREAT. THAT SHOULD MATCH BETTER WITH OUR DATA THAT COMES IN AND THE PLAN PRESENTATIONS AND SO ON.

YEAH. THANK YOU.

OKAY, SO THAT BRINGS US TO ITEM F.

REVISION OF POLICY 1810 ANNUAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

POLICY 1810 IS ANOTHER WITH SOME SIMPLE CHANGES.

IT REFLECTS WHEN THE BOARD WILL REVIEW ITS GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, AND THE RECOMMENDED REVISION WOULD BE BRINGING THE TIMELINE TO ALIGN WITH THE SCHOOL YEAR VERSUS THE CALENDAR YEAR. IF YOU LOOK AT THE DRAFT POLICY, YOU WILL NOTE THAT WE ELIMINATED EACH YEAR THERE THE BOARD WILL FORMULATE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, MOSTLY BECAUSE OUR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, THE TENDENCY WITH THE BOARD AND WITH US AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERSHIP IS WE HAVE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES THAT ARE MORE THAN ONE YEAR THAT GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK THROUGH THEM TO TO BUILD, TO ACCOMPLISH THE TASK.

FOR INSTANCE, OUR CORE BELIEFS, WHICH NOW ARE RUNNING IN A THREE YEAR PERIOD.

SO WE ELIMINATED THE NEED.

IF WE OBVIOUSLY IF WE NEED TO REVISE THOSE, WE WILL TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REVISE THOSE.

AND ANY OF US CAN CAN ASK THAT THAT BE CONSIDERED.

AND THEN IT USED TO SAY THE CALENDAR YEAR, WHICH OF COURSE WAS WONKY BECAUSE THEN WE'RE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR AND WE'RE LOOKING TO REEVALUATE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES AND IT SHOULD SAY THE SCHOOL YEAR.

SO WE CHANGED THAT TO SCHOOL YEAR.

THOSE ARE THE TWO CHANGES.

ANY ADDITIONS OR CLARIFICATIONS NEED TO BE MADE.

I MOVED. THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVED THE REVISION OF POLICY 1810 ANNUAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 1810 ANNUAL GOALS AND OBJECTIVES.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED? MOTION PASSES 5-0.

GREAT. WE'RE GETTING CLOSER RATHER THAN FOUR SEPARATE SET OF GOALS, WE MIGHT JUST BE DOWN TO TWO THAT WE CAN STICK WITH YOU.

GREAT. ALL RIGHT.

AND FINALLY, ITEM G REVISION, REVISION OF POLICY 1820.

EVALUATION OF THE BOARD.

REVISION OF POLICY 1820 IS A LITTLE MORE COMPLEX.

YOU CAN SEE THE DRAFT POLICY THAT'S ATTACHED.

THE 1820 WILL ALIGN US WITH OUR CURRENT PRACTICES AND OUR CURRENT PRACTICES, WHICH THEY'VE BEEN FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS.

I BELIEVE. MARK, WE WERE SAYING IT WAS EIGHT YEARS, SEVEN, SEVEN OR SEVEN YEARS.

YEAH, EIGHT YEARS THAT THE BOARD USES THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION ONLINE BOARD SELF ASSESSMENT SURVEY TO ASSESS AND STRENGTHEN THEIR PERFORMANCE IN GOVERNING FOR IMPROVED STUDENT LEARNING.

AND THAT SURVEY IS BASED ON WASHINGTON SCHOOL BOARD STANDARDS.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE DRAFT POLICY, WHAT WE HAVE DONE IS ELIMINATING AND SAYING THAT THE PREFERRED DOCUMENT THAT WE WILL NOW BE USING AS THE WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION ONLINE SELF ASSESSMENT.

[02:10:04]

AND THEN WE LOOKED AT THAT SELF ASSESSMENT AND LISTED THE FIVE CORE PRINCIPLES THAT ARE THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE SCHOOL DISTRICT GOVERNANCE, COMMUNICATION AND COMMITMENT TO HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENT LEARNING, CREATING CONDITIONS DISTRICT WIDE FOR STUDENT AND STAFF SUCCESS, HOLDING THE DISTRICT ACCOUNTABLE FOR STUDENT LEARNING AND ENGAGEMENT OF THE COMMUNITY IN EDUCATION.

AND AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE THAT IT ALIGNS GREATLY.

AGAIN, TO MARK'S POINT ABOUT ALIGNMENT, IT ALIGNS WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLAN WITH THE BOARD GOALS AND OBJECTIVES AND SO FORTH.

SO I'D ASK THAT YOU CONSIDER APPROVING THIS POLICY.

ANY QUESTIONS OR DISCUSSION.

I RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE REVISION OF POLICY 1820 EVALUATION OF THE BOARD.

IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE 1820 EVALUATION OF THE BOARD.

ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED? POLICY 1820 REVISED. THANK YOU, BARTON.

YEAH, AND I DO WANT TO SAY WE DO NEED TO THINK ABOUT TIMING ON THAT.

SO WE HAVE OFTEN DONE THAT KIND OF IN THE FALL BEFORE WE TYPICALLY GO TO [INAUDIBLE] CONFERENCE OR WHATEVER.

I THINK IT COMES OUT.

SANDY, WHEN IT SHOULD COME OUT ANY TIME NOW, RIGHT.

OH, IT'S AVAILABLE ALL YEAR. OH, IT IS AVAILABLE.

YEAH. IT'S AVAILABLE ALL YEAR LONG TO START THE LINK.

OH, OKAY. YEAH. YEAH.

SO ONE THOUGHT JUST I WOULD LIKE THE BOARD'S INPUT ON TIMING.

WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT KIND OF LIKE THEN, AND IT'S KIND OF SLOPPED OVER UNTIL JUST ABOUT THE 1ST OF JANUARY OR SO BECAUSE WE HAVE TO MEET A COUPLE OF TIMES TO GO OVER THE DEAL.

WE COULD ALSO THINK ABOUT ALIGNING IT WITH THE SCHOOL YEAR SO THAT WE EVALUATE OURSELVES ON THE SCHOOL YEAR OR IF WE DO IT LIKE NEAR THE CONVENTION TIME LIKE WE'VE GOT COMING UP.

IT ALSO COINCIDES IF THERE'S A CHANGE IN THE ELECTION.

SO WHEN NEW BOARD MEMBERS COME ON.

SO JUST THINK ABOUT TIMING.

IF YOU HAVE INPUT ON WHEN WE SHOULD DO THE SELF-EVALUATION DURING THE YEAR, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

MARY, DO YOU HAVE A COMMENT? NO, NO, NO. I'M THINKING EITHER OF THOSE SEEM LIKE GOOD OPTIONS.

YEAH, I MEAN, ONE ONE THING IT WOULD BE NICE TO IF WE'RE EVALUATING OURSELVES AS A BOARD AND WE'RE DOING THE SUPERINTENDENTS EVALUATION, I MEAN, AGAIN, IT SEEMS LIKE THERE SHOULD BE SOME CONSISTENCY THERE.

ON THE OTHER HAND, THAT'S A LOT TO DO AT THE SAME TIME.

RIGHT. THAT'S MY ONE POINT WE DISCUSSED ABOUT.

AND WE'VE BEEN DISRUPTED BY THE VIRTUAL CONVENTIONS THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

BUT THE ANNUAL CONVENTION WHERE WE DO MEET IN PERSON IS ONE OF THE FEW CHANCES WE GET A CHANCE TO SIT DOWN AND AND REALLY SELF-REFLECT ON HOW WE'RE DOING AS A BOARD AND COMPARE OURSELVES TO OTHER BOARDS AROUND THE STATE.

SO REALLY, I DO THINK IN TERMS OF THE TIME THAT'S NEEDED, IT REALLY BECOMES, AS MARK POINTED OUT AND MARY'S INDICATED, IT'S ALMOST A TWO MONTH PROCESS.

YEAH, BY THE TIME YOU OPEN THE LINK, SEND THE LINK OUT, GIVE SOME TIME FOR EVERYBODY TO COMPLETE IT, GET THE RESULTS BACK AND THEN HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY.

AND IT'S TYPICALLY TAKING US MORE THAN ONE MEETING, ONE TIME TO GET TOGETHER TO GO THROUGH AND THEN AFTER THAT COME BACK AND SAY, OKAY, NOW WHAT ARE OUR PRIORITIES AND WHAT DID WE FIND OUT ABOUT THE SURVEY AND WHAT ARE WE GOING TO WORK ON? SO IT REALLY IS AAA2 MONTH AT THE MINIMUM PROCESS.

SO TO MARY'S POINT, THE END OF THE YEAR, THAT'S YEAH, YOU HAD A LOT OF STUFF GOING ON AT THE END OF THE YEAR.

END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.

RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT.

YEAH. RIGHT. OKAY.

WELL, THAT WILL BRING UP A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION.

MAYBE DURING THE CONFERENCE WE CAN MAYBE HAMMER THAT OUT AND FIGURE THAT ONE GOING, OKAY, ITEM 12 IS OUR FUTURE

[12. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

AGENDA ITEMS. ANYTHING YOU WANT TO HIGHLIGHT? I JUST WANT TO REMIND EVERYBODY AGAIN, THE BOARD TOUR 8:30 WE DID DOUBLE CHECK 8:30 BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

THERE WILL BE BREAKFAST SERVED.

SO JUST SO YOU'RE AWARE, I ALSO WANT TO ASK THE BOARD I KNOW COMING OUT SOON SOMETIME WILL BE THE WAS THE AGENDA FOR THE CONFERENCE.

YES AND IF YOU WERE TO START START TAKING A LOOK AT THAT, THERE'S PROBABLY MAYBE AT THE NEXT MEETING.

MARK YEAH, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF A EXECUTIVE SESSION OR A QUICK SESSION WHERE WE DISCUSS WHERE WE'RE GOING TO GO. WHO'S GOING TO DO WHAT.

WHO'S GOING TO DO WHAT KIND OF THING.

YEAH, THAT'S IT FOR ME.

OKAY, GOOD.

WE'LL LET YOU KNOW. I WON'T BE BACK FROM THE CAROLINAS AT THE NEXT BOARD PREP.

SO IF SOMEBODY WANTS TO TAKE MY PLACE, I WILL BE BACK IN TIME TO DEBRIEF BEFORE THE NEXT MEETING.

[02:15:02]

I WILL BE THERE FOR THE NEXT BOARD MEETING, BUT NOT FOR THE BOARD PREP.

SO IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE AN EXTRA VOICE AT THOSE MEETINGS, STEP IN AT BOARD PREP OR WHAT TIME IS THAT? MAYBE EVEN THREE 3:30.

3:30? YEAH.

IT'S A LIVE MEETING OR.

YEAH, IT'S A LIVE MEETING AT MY OFFICE, DISTRICT OFFICE.

SO THINK ABOUT IT.

AND SANDY WILL REACH OUT AND MARY DID THE LAST ONE.

BUT IF MARY WANTS TO DO IT AGAIN OR TED, MONTHS TO JUMP IN.

I KNOW TED'S TED CAN.

HE'S REALLY. YEAH, HE'S REALLY BUSY.

I WILL. I MEAN, I'LL HOLD THE DATE, RIGHT? AND SO IF I'M OKAY, I'LL DO IT.

BUT. OKAY. THE OPPORTUNITY.

OKAY. YEAH.

YEAH. GREAT.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. MARK.

ANYTHING ELSE? FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER? I'VE GOT A LOT IN TONIGHT.

YEAH, THAT WAS A BIG, BIG DEAL.

OKAY, I'D LIKE TO ADJOURN THIS OCTOBER 10TH, 2022 BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.
