AWESOME. SO PERRY IS DOING A FALCON LAUNCH NEXT WEEK FOR STUDENTS WHO NEED A LITTLE BIT MORE HELP INTO GETTING INTO HIGH SCHOOL AND FOR STUDENTS WHO NEED HELP, LIKE JUST KNOWING WHERE TO GO, AND THEN OUR BAND IS HAVING A BAND CAMP FOR THE STUDENTS FOR PERRY HIGH SCHOOL ON THE 29TH AND THE 30TH.

I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW, THE BOARD KNOW THAT THERE'S A GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2022 HANDBOOK THAT CAME OUT.

IT WILL BE HELPFUL FOR US AS WE REVIEW THAT TO COME UP WITH OUR TOP 15 POSITIONS THAT WE'LL BE SUBMITTING IN JUNE.

THE AUDIT COMMITTEE MET AUGUST 2ND AND JACKIE MADDUX, MYSELF, CINDY CLEMENTS AND ANNA KONOVALCHIK WERE PRESENT.

WE REVIEWED THE BOARD AND SUPERINTENDENT BUDGETS, THE ACCOUNTS PAYABLE, PAYROLL SUPERINTENDENT'S TIMESHEET AND EVERYTHING WAS IN ORDER.

WE HAD A DISCUSSION ABOUT ONE VOUCHER FOR BOOKS FOR A PRIVATE SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT AND WITH OUR FEDERAL GRANTS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE CHARGED WITH DOING IS MEETING WITH PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND SUPPORTING STUDENTS IN THEIR SCHOOLS THAT WOULD QUALIFY FOR SERVICES IN OUR SCHOOL UNDER THOSE GRANTS, AND SO THAT'S A COOPERATIVE EFFORT WITH THE PRIVATE SCHOOLS, AND IN THIS CASE, IT WAS A PURCHASE OF SOME BOOKS.

SO JUST A LITTLE HIGHLIGHT THERE THAT, OF COURSE, NONE OF THAT FUNDING GOES DIRECTLY TO STUDENTS OR DIRECTLY FOR TUITION.

IT GOES FOR SERVICES FOR PARTICULAR STUDENTS THAT NEED THEM AND WOULD BE QUALIFIED IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL AS WELL.

SO AND THEN ALSO OUR TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN, I WOULD THINK WOULD BE MAYBE A GOOD ONE, BUT IF YOU HAVE OTHER IDEAS, THAT'D BE GREAT.

AND HOW DOES THE BOARD COMMUNICATE ITS RATIONALE FOR ITS DECISIONS TO THE COMMUNITIES TO REINFORCE THAT VISION? THINGS FROM THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR WHERE WE WORKED WITH THE COMMUNITY, I THINK WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH SOME THINGS THERE.

FIRST, JUST TO GIVE THE BOARD AND ANYBODY LISTENING IN SOME UPDATES.

OUR PRINCIPALS HAVE RETURNED AND WE HAD OUR FIRST DAY OF OUR LEADERSHIP RETREAT WAS LAST THURSDAY, AND TODAY WAS THE SECOND DAY OF OUR LEADERSHIP RETREAT, AND WE WILL CONCLUDE TOMORROW, AND IT'S BEEN WONDERFUL TO SEE EVERYBODY WHERE WE'RE WORKING WITH EVERYBODY ON PLCS AND EFFECTIVE USE OF THE WAIVER DAYS.

WE ARE WORKING ON BUILDING A POSITIVE CLIMATE AND CULTURE AND THEN JUST WORKING, DOING SOME WORK.

WE DID SOME WORK TODAY ON CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS AND THE ABILITY TO HAVE THOSE KINDS OF CONVERSATIONS WHEN NEEDED.

SO IT'S BEEN PRODUCTIVE AND THERE'S JUST A GOOD VIBE TO THE WHOLE THING.

SO I'M FEELING REALLY GOOD ABOUT THAT.

BESIDES THAT, AS YOU KNOW, SOME OF OUR DEPARTMENTS HAVE BEEN RAMPED UP ALL YEAR.

HR HAS BEEN VERY, VERY BUSY.

FACILITIES AND OPERATIONS HAS BEEN VERY, VERY BUSY, BUT FOR THE REST OF US, WHERE JULY IS TYPICALLY A SLOW MONTH, THAT'S OVER AND IT'S RAMPING UP VERY QUICKLY FOR FOR ALL OF US.

SO THAT'S EXCITING.

IT'S EXCITING TO KNOW THAT IN A LITTLE OVER THREE WEEKS, WE'LL HAVE TEACHERS BACK IN OUR BUILDINGS AND STUDENTS TO FOLLOW SHORTLY THEREAFTER.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO OUR TEACHING AND LEARNING AND TO DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT SHELLY WHITTEN, AND SHE HAS SOME WORDS AND SOME INFORMATION TO SHARE.

IT CAN TAKE THAT LONG.

WE DON'T ANTICIPATE THAT IT WILL, BUT WE STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK ON THE WAIVER DAYS, AND SO AS SOON AS WE DO, THEN WE CAN COMMUNICATE OUT TO OUR COMMUNITY.

THERE IS NO REASON FOR US TO THINK THAT IT WON'T BE APPROVED, BUT I DID WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT BECAUSE WE ANTICIPATED KNOWING IN A WEEK AND THAT'S JUST NOT THE CASE ANYMORE. SO THEY BOUGHT THEMSELVES SOME TIME IN THAT PROCESS, WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE IF THEY HAVE A BUNCH AT THE SAME TIME. ALLISON, YOU CAN'T FIND IT.

SO THE FIRST THING WE WANTED TO TELL YOU ABOUT WAS WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THAT PROCESS.

SO WE HAD TWO MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS, WE HAD FOUR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS.

SO WE HAD A REPRESENTATIVE FROM BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVE FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL AND A REP FROM RIVER HOMELINK.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD A REPRESENTATIVE FROM CTE BECAUSE THEY HAVE HEALTH RELATED CLASSES THAT THEY TEACH, AND THEN WE ALSO HAD THREE PARENTS THAT WERE PART OF OUR GROUP AND THEN THREE DISTRICT OFFICE EMPLOYEES, AND THEN THE MEETINGS WE HAD, WE HAD THREE MEETINGS MAY 24TH, JUNE 7TH, JUNE 21ST.

THEY WERE ALL IN-PERSON, ALL DAY MEETINGS.

WE HAD SUBS FOR THE TEACHERS AND WE MET IN PERSON AND EVERYTHING WAS FROM LIKE 8:30 IN THE MORNING UNTIL THREE IN THE AFTERNOON AND THAT'S WHEN WE DID ALL THE WORK.

AS PART OF THAT WORK, WE DEVELOPED A PURPOSE STATEMENT, AS HAS BEEN OUR CUSTOM, AND THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO ACTUALLY HAVE LISTED THERE, BUT I'LL GO AHEAD AND READ IT CAREFULLY. SO THE PURPOSE WAS TO DEVELOP A SCOPE AND SEQUENCE FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL COMPREHENSIVE SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION THAT WILL BE USED FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR.

SO FOR NEXT YEAR, AND THEN THIS DOCUMENT WILL BE VIEWED BY PARENTS AS PART OF THE OPT OUT PROCESS.

SO OUR INTENT WAS TO ACTUALLY DEVELOP A SCOPE AND SEQUENCE FOR THIS NEXT YEAR AND WE'LL TALK A LITTLE LATER IF OUR PLAN IS TO RECONVENE THE COMMITTEE AT THE END OF THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR TO DO ANY ADJUSTMENTS FOR THAT.

SO THE WORK THE COMMITTEE DID WAS WE WORKED ON FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS, AND SO OUR FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS FOLLOWED KIND OF A SIMILAR PROCESS THAT WE USED WITH OUR COMMITTEES AND THAT IS DEVELOPING SOME NORMS, HAVING A GET TO KNOW YOU ACTIVITY AND LEARNING WHO IS IN THE ROOM, WORKING ON OUR CORE BELIEF STATEMENT OR WORKING FROM

WE ANTICIPATED THAT BECAUSE IT WAS THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, BUT WE DID HAVE 431 PARTICIPANTS, WHICH IS ABOUT A THIRD OF WHAT WE NORMALLY HAVE IN A NORMAL THOUGHT EXCHANGE , AND THEY HAD 274 THOUGHTS AND THEY PROVIDED 11,934 RATINGS.

AS FAR AS THE BREAKDOWN OF WHO PARTICIPATED AND WHAT SCHOOLS THEY WERE FROM, THAT APPEARED PRETTY NORMAL COMPARED TO WHAT WE NORMALLY GET IN A THOUGHT EXCHANGE. SO THAT WAS GOOD, AND THEN I ALSO WANTED TO SHARE SOME OF THEMES.

SO THIS WAS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR PEOPLE.

THE TOP THING WAS PROVIDE CAREER PATHWAYS AND OPTIONS FOR STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT CAREERS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SO I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY INTERESTING.

ANOTHER ONE THAT WAS ALSO IMPORTANT IS CLASS SIZE.

THERE WASN'T A LOT OF THOUGHTS, BUT THEY WERE RANKED HIGH, AND SO PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT SMALLER CLASS SIZES ARE IMPORTANT FOR LEARNING.

ALSO COMMUNITY COLLABORATION.

THIS WAS KIND OF A LITTLE BIT OF A JUMBLE, BUT ALL OF THESE THINGS FIT IN OUR COLLABORATION GOALS.

SO THERE WAS FISCAL TRANSPARENCY IN PROVIDING COMMUNITY INPUT, HELPING STUDENTS LEARN TO DO COMMUNITY BUILDING COMMUNICATION AND BETTER RELATIONS WITH THE COMMUNITY EARNING TRUST.

SO THOSE WERE SOME OF THEMES IN THE COLLABORATION RESPONSES.

THEN WE ALSO HAD CURRICULUM WAS ALSO ONE THAT RANKED HIGH AND MOST OF THOSE THOUGHTS WAS EIGHT THOUGHTS IN THERE, BUT MOST OF THEM, IF YOU WANT TO OPEN THAT ONE, HAD TO DO WITH PEOPLE WANTING TO KNOW WHAT THEIR KIDS ARE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM AND WHAT.

IS IN THE CURRICULUM.

THEY WANT TO BE INVOLVED.

SO THAT'S REALLY GOOD.

WE APPRECIATE THOSE PARENT PARTNERSHIPS, AND THEN EDUCATION WAS A LOT OF THOUGHTS AND THE TOP ONES HAD TO DO WITH QUALITY EDUCATION AND KEEPING TO THE BASICS LANGUAGE, ARTS AND MATH AND REAL WORLD CLASSES, AND THERE WERE QUITE A FEW THOUGHTS THAT ASKED FOR FINANCIAL LEARNING AND PERSONAL PERSONAL FINANCE CLASSES AND MONEY MANAGEMENT CLASSES AND REAL WORLD SKILLS FOR KIDS.

SO THOSE WERE SOME THINGS THAT WERE IMPORTANT TO PEOPLE.

THE OTHER ONES I WANT TO MENTION, I ALSO WANT TO POINT OUT THERE WAS A SAFE AND CARING ENVIRONMENT AND ALSO SAFE SCHOOLS.

SO WE GOT JOBS THERE AND WE LIVED THERE FOR SEVEN YEARS AND OUR SON WAS BORN THERE AND WE REALLY LOVED LIVING THERE. AND THEN HE GOT RECRUITED FOR A JOB OUT HERE AND WE ALMOST DIDN'T TAKE IT, BUT IT WAS A REALLY GOOD CAREER MOVE FOR HIM.

SO WE DID AND WE CAME BACK OUT HERE AND WE DECIDED THAT WE WOULD BE HERE FOR A SHORT TIME AND MAYBE TEN YEARS, AND IT'S BEEN 15 AND OUR KIDS GREW UP HERE AND HAYDEN JUST GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL, MY OLDEST, AND HE'S GOING TO COLLEGE IN COLORADO AND CIARA IS GOING TO BE A FRESHMAN, AND SO SHE HAS TO SWITCH SCHOOLS ANYWAY, AND WE'RE AT A POINT IN OUR LIVES WHERE THE MY JOB IS REALLY THE ONLY THING KEEPING US HERE BECAUSE WE LOVE COLORADO, AND WE DECIDED THAT IF WE DON'T GO NOW AND TAKE OUR KIDS WITH US WHEN AND, YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY THEY'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH COLORADO, TOO, AND BE CLOSER TO US THAT WAY BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE WE WANT TO BE, THAT WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY'LL END UP.

THE POLICY HAS BEEN DRAFTED IN RESPONSE TO AN OBLIGATION THAT WE INCURRED IN 2019, WHEN THE GOVERNOR SIGNED INTO LAW SENATE BILL 5380, WHICH REQUIRES SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT HAVE MORE THAN 2000 STUDENTS TO OBTAIN AND MAINTAIN A SUPPLY OF OPIOID REVERSAL DRUGS, AND SO MOST OF US KNOW THOSE DRUGS AS NARCAN OR NALOXONE.

THE DRAFT POLICY OBLIGATES CERTAIN PERSONNEL TO BE PREPARED TO ADMINISTER NARCAN IN THE EVENT OF A PERCEIVED OVERDOSE ON CAMPUS.

SCHOOL NURSES, WHETHER THEY'RE RNS OR LPNS, CAN DOSE NARCAN.

SCHOOL NURSES CAN ALSO TRAIN AND DELEGATE THAT TO OTHER SCHOOL PERSONNEL, AND ANY HEALTH CARE PROVIDER EMPLOYED BY THE DISTRICT CAN DOSE NARCAN IN ANTICIPATION OF BEGINNING TO IMPLEMENT THIS POLICY.

SO WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE KIDS THAT ARE USING NARCOTICS.

WE HAD AN ALUMNI, A STUDENT PASS AWAY FROM A NARCOTICS OVERDOSE IN 2016 OFF CAMPUS AND IT WAS A GRADUATE.

SO, YOU KNOW, WE'D BE REMISS TO THINK IT'S NOT IN THE COMMUNITY.

CERTAINLY, WE HAVE NOT HAD TO RESPOND IN ANY OF OUR BUILDINGS IN REAL TIME RECENTLY.

I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE HAVE HAVE THAT IN PLACE.

I THINK I THINK LIKE SO MANY OF THE SITUATIONS THAT HAPPENED UNEXPECTEDLY TO TED'S POINT, THE MORE YOU PRACTICE, THE MORE YOU ANTICIPATE THE MORE YOU IMAGINE THE SCENARIO.
