[5. Communications]

CALLING IT STUDENT VOICE, AND I THINK WE HAVE OUR STUDENT THAT HELPED PREPARE OUR CHARCUTERIE BOARDS HERE.

ROBERT LAWRENCE.

YES. AND THE INSTRUCTOR, GENE FRITZ? YEAH, YEAH. IT'S BEEN A COUPLE OF YEARS SINCE WE PREPARED ANYTHING FOR THIS GROUP.

WE'RE DELIGHTED TO BE BACK AND REPRESENT CTE, SO WE DID A FULL MEAL AND I LOOK FORWARD TO MAYBE LATER ON THIS SEMESTER IN THE FALL, PROMPTING HOPEFULLY WE'LL BE DOING A FULL MEAL FOR YOU AGAIN IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

BUT AS MARK SAID, MY NAME IS GENE FRITZ I'M A CULINARY [INAUDIBLE] EDUCATOR OF BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL. WHAT YOU HAD BEFORE YOU IS A CHARCUTERIE PLATE CALLED NORTHWEST AND BEYOND. I THINK YOU'VE GOT THE PEPPER OVER HERE.

[LAUGHTER] I NOTICE, RIGHT? SO IT'S A PEPPER CRUSTED CHEV, APPLE SMOKED CHEDDAR, YOU HAVE SOME CAPICOLA, SOME BRUSCHETTA, A MÉLANGE OF DIFFERENT CRACKERS, SOME PICKLED GREEN BEANS AND PEPPERONCINI, KALAMATA OLIVES, A LITTLE DRIZZLE OF BALSAMIC REDUCTION, A LITTLE SPICY MUSTARD.

[INAUDIBLE] THERE WARNING NOW.

SORRY. [LAUGHTER] AND THEN A LITTLE HONEY TO SWEETEN THINGS OUT.

SO A LITTLE BIT OF SWEET, SALTY, SOUR, BITTER.

ENJOY THE SNACK.

THERE'S TO GO CONTAINERS IN THE BACK THERE, SO THE BOARDS ARE YOURS FOR THE BOARD TO TAKE. WOW. I NOTICE THAT BATTLE GROUND WOOD'S PROGRAM PREPARED THE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS FOR YOU, AND THEN YOU CAN PUT THE FOOD INTO WHATEVER'S LEFT OVER AFTER THE SNACKING IS DONE FOR THE EVENING. FEEL FREE TO PUT IT IN THE TO GO CONTAINERS.

TAKE THAT AND THE BOARD WITH YOU.

AND WITH THAT, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE ROBERT LAWRENCE, WHO'S ONE OF MY STUDENTS IN THE CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM. HE'S GOING TO TELL YOU A QUICK STORY ABOUT CULINARY ARTS AND CTE AND ALL THAT GOOD STUFF.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. HELLO.

MY NAME IS ROBERT LAWRENCE, I'M A SENIOR AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND AS MR. FRITZ SAID, I AM A STUDENT IN HIS CULINARY ARTS PROGRAM.

I'M WAS ALSO A STUDENT IN THE WOODWORKING PROGRAM AND THE WOOD AND GLASS ART.

I'VE BEEN GOING THROUGH THE HIGH SCHOOL JUST LOOKING FOR MORE PASSION TO REALLY START KICKING THINGS OFF, AND WHEN I HEARD THERE WAS A CULINARY ARTS CLASS, I WANTED TO JOIN.

AFTER HIGH SCHOOL, I WANT TO GO UP AND DO SOME, LIKE FINE DINING COOKING OR JUST EXECUTIVE COOKING. I ALSO AM PLANNING ON JOINING THE MILITARY, ARMY BRANCH AND BE A MILITARY COOK.

AS WELL, AFTER GRADUATION AND GOING UP TO NAKNEK, ALASKA FOR FIVE MONTHS TO WORK ON A CANNERY KITCHEN CREW AND TO GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE COOKING THROUGH THERE AND MR. FRITZ'S CLASS HAS BEEN SO FAR REALLY HELPFUL THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER I'VE BEEN WITH HIM AND I'VE LEARNED A BUNCH OF STUFF.

IT'S BEEN A LOT OF FUN. THANK YOU, ROBERT.

I THINK YOU JUST GAVE US A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHAT A HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN CAN LOOK LIKE IN A NICE PARAGRAPH.

GOOD. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT ALL THE NEWS YOU HEAR ABOUT RESTAURANTS STRUGGLING FOR EMPLOYEES AND THINGS LIKE THAT? DOES THAT ENCOURAGE YOU OR DISCOURAGE YOU? THERE'S SOME PART OF ME THAT THINKS IT'S UNSETTLING THAT, YOU KNOW, RESTAURANTS ARE HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING EMPLOYEES AND WE'RE GOING THROUGH THAT PROCESS, BUT OVERALL I THINK IT'S GOING TO TURN OUT OK AND I'M MORE EXCITED THAN ANYTHING TO JUST START COOKING FOR PEOPLE AND MAKING PEOPLE HAPPY WITH MY FOOD.

GREAT. OTHER BOARD MEMBERS HAVE QUESTIONS? I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU, THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS.

SO GOOD. YOU'RE VERY WELCOME.

AND THE PRESENTATION IS BEAUTIFUL.

YES. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, ROBERT, FOR BEING WILLING TO STICK AROUND AND TALKING.

[APPLAUSE]. I DIDN'T SEE ANY ON THE LIST, BUT JUST TO MAKE SURE DO WE HAVE ANY ASB

[00:10:03]

REPRESENTATIVES HERE TONIGHT THAT WANT TO REPORT? OK. SEEING NONE, WE'LL MOVE ON TO OUR COMMITTEE, REPORTS.

OUR COMMITTEES CONSIST OF THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE, THE AUDIT COMMITTEE, BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION, OUR WASHINGTON INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION, WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION AND TOURS COMING UP.

SO WE'LL OPEN WITH THE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE.

NOW, JUST REAL QUICK, I WANTED TO MENTION THAT THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IS GOING TO BE WINDING UP HERE IN A COUPLE OF THREE WEEKS, TWO TO THREE WEEKS.

IT COULD GO LONGER. SOME OF THE BILLS THAT I'VE LOOKED AT HAVE BEEN APPROVED, THAT WE'RE INTERESTED IN HAVE BEEN APPROVED BY THE HOUSE, BUT NOW IT'S IN THE SENATE.

SO WE'RE GOING THROUGH THAT PROCESS TO KEEP AN EYE ON THOSE AND THAT'S ABOUT IT.

GREAT. THANK YOU. I KNOW I WEIGHED IN ON SEVERAL ISSUES.

AGAIN, THERE WAS A CALL FOR HELP ON SOME OF OUR PUBLIC LANDS ISSUES, WHICH ARE PART OF THE BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT, I'LL GIVE A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION ON THAT LATER, AND ALSO A LAST CALL TO HELP WITH THE OUTDOOR SCHOOLS FOR ALL IN WASHINGTON STATE.

AND IF YOU DON'T MIND A POINT OF PRIVILEGE, I SEE THAT WE HAVE OUR ONLY SCHOOL THAT I KNOW OF THAT STILL DOES OUTDOOR SCHOOL REPRESENTED HERE.

WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO COME UP AND TELL THE BOARD A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUTDOOR SCHOOL AT PLEASANT VALLEY MIDDLE? [APPLAUSE] THANK YOU.

THIS IS SIXTH GRADE TEACHER AMY PACE, WHO HAS BEEN DOING OUTDOOR SCHOOL.

I'LL LET YOU FILL IN THE DETAILS.

MY WHOLE LIFE.

YEAH. HI GUYS.

YEAH, I'VE BEEN--. I TOOK OVER OUTDOOR SCHOOL ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO FROM A LADY WHO PREVIOUSLY DID IT AT PLEASANT MARYLAND MIDDLE SCHOOL.

WE'RE THE ONLY SCHOOL THAT GOES BECAUSE WE DO ALL THE STUFF OURSELVES.

I AM THE PLANNER, SO I PLAN ALL OF THE THINGS, THE CLASSES, THE ACTIVITIES, THE PLACE, THE FOOD, THE COUNSELORS, THE--.

YOU NAME IT, I DO IT.

AND WE HAVEN'T GOT TO GO FOR TWO YEARS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, COVID, AND THIS YEAR WE'RE ON THE AGENDA TODAY TO GET APPROVED TO GO THIS YEAR.

NOT ONLY THE FACT THAT THE GRANT WILL LET US GO AND NOT CHARGE THE KIDS THIS YEAR.

JUST THE SIMPLE FACT THAT WHILE IT'S BEEN TWO YEARS AND IF I DON'T GET TO GO [INAUDIBLE] CRY A LITTLE TEARS.

IT HONESTLY IS THE BEST THING THAT KIDS DO IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I WAS TALKING TO MY KIDS TODAY, I SAID, YOU'LL KNOW, YOU'LL KNOW TOMORROW.

AND IT'S FUNNY BECAUSE THE SIMPLE FACT THAT THE EIGHTH GRADERS THIS YEAR, THE SEVENTH GRADERS WOULD HAVE GONE AND THEY HAVEN'T, NOBODY KNOWS.

I MEAN, WE'RE KIND OF, EXCEPT FOR MY EXCITEMENT, LACKING IN THE EXCITEMENT DEPARTMENT, BECAUSE NO ONE'S GOT TO GO SO FAR IN ALL OF MIDDLE SCHOOL AND SO THEY'LL BE THE FIRST TO GO. AND NOT ONLY DO THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY, WE ALSO HAVE LESS KIDS THIS YEAR.

USUALLY I TAKE 130 KIDS, WE HAVE 85, SO JUST THE SIMPLE FACT THAT THE CABIN GROUPS WILL BE LESS, THEY WON'T HAVE TO PAY, WE'LL WEAR MASKS, LIKE I AM 'LET'S GO'.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

I OBVIOUSLY WOULD LIKE TO SEE OUTDOOR SCHOOL FOR EVERYONE.

I WAS JUST TELLING THEM I WAS LIKE, WELL, MAYBE WE COULD WORK IT OUT SOME DAY THAT I COULD JUST TELL EVERYBODY THE WONDERS OF OUTDOOR SCHOOL AND THEN EVERYONE, EVERY SIXTH GRADER COULD GO. BUT YEAH, I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT IT, IF YOU CAN'T TELL.

HAVE YOU BEEN TRACKING THE OUTDOOR SCHOOL FOR ALL LEGISLATION? SO WHEN YOU SENT ME THE LINK, I LOOKED ON IT AND I FILLED OUT THE GOOGLE FORM AND THE LADY SENT ME BACK THE, YES, YOU'RE APPROVED FOR $14,000 DOLLARS TO GO AND I WAS LIKE, YES. SO YEAH, AND I HAD QUESTIONS BECAUSE I'M THE ONE THAT DOES EVERYTHING.

AND A LOT OF TIMES WHEN PEOPLE GO TO OUTDOOR SCHOOL, THEY GO TO A DIFFERENT PROGRAM THAT'S RUN BY SOMEBODY ELSE, BUT THAT'S NOT US.

SO LIKE, I GET THE FOOD AND I DO THE, YOU KNOW, AND I'M LIKE, DOES IT INCLUDE ALL THAT? LIKE, I KNOW YOU'LL PAY FOR BUSSES, BUT LIKE, WILL YOU PAY FOR THE FOOD I FEED THE KIDS AND THE BOOKS THAT THEY NEED AND ALL THAT STUFF? AND SO SHE SAID YES, SO HOPEFULLY.

YEAH. YEAH. THANK YOU.

ANY QUESTIONS FROM BOARD MEMBERS? I'M JUST CURIOUS, IS IT AT A CAMP? I MEAN, IS IT AN ESTABLISHED CAMP? YES. YES, WE GO TO CAMP ANGELOS, WHICH IS IN CORBETT.

OK. IT'S RIGHT ON THE SANDY RIVER AND THEY HAVE ALL THE ACCOMMODATIONS.

THEY HAVE THE LODGE, THEY HAVE THE COMMERCIAL KITCHEN, THEY HAVE THE SIX CABINS.

THE KIDS ARE [INAUDIBLE] INDOOR PLUMBING, THE OTHER SIX CABINS FOR THE GIRLS, YOU KNOW, NURSES QUARTERS, LIKE FISHING PONDS, ARCHERY, LIKE ALL THE THINGS--.

[00:15:01]

NO.

OFFICE. BUT YEAH, I DO--.

YEAH, I DO ALL THE STUFF. TAKE YOUR OWN EXPERTISE.

I TAKE--. YES, EVERYTHING.

OH, IT'S A LOT OF WORK.

BUT IT'S WORTH IT. HOW LONG ARE YOU THERE? THREE DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS.

SO HOW MANY STAFF DO YOU NEED TO TAKE WITH YOU, OR VOLUNTEERS? I TAKE 40 OR MORE.

EVERY CABIN HAS AN ADULT COUNSELOR AND A JUNIOR COUNSELOR, WHICH IS A HIGH SCHOOLER TO A COLLEGE AGED PERSON, NOT TO MENTION THE FOUR SIXTH GRADE TEACHERS, AS WELL AS MY COOKS, AS WELL AS JUST THE PEOPLE THAT ARE TEACHERS THAT AREN'T CABIN COUNSELORS.

THEY'RE JUST THERE TO TEACH A CLASS OR AN ACTIVITY OR BOTH OR WHATNOT.

SO, YEAH, I THINK I COUNTED 40.

SO 40 TO 85 RATIO IS PRETTY SWEET.

HMM. AND I--.

USUALLY EVERYBODY WANTS TO COME BACK LIKE RETIRED TEACHERS WANT TO COME BACK AND KEEP COMING TO OUTDOOR SCHOOL.

THE COUNSELORS I HAVE EVERY YEAR, I BARELY HAVE TO TRAIN ANYBODY BECAUSE ALL THE ADULTS WANT TO COME BACK AND I DON'T PAY THEM.

MY GOOD GRACES THAT'S WHAT THEY GET [LAUGHTER] AND THEY ALL STILL WANT TO DO IT.

THAT'S AWESOME. THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME. THANK YOU.

THANK. [APPLAUSE] LOVE TO SEE A TIME IF IT MAKES IT THROUGH THE REST OF THE LEGISLATIVE HURDLES THAT WE COULD SAY THAT NOT JUST PLEASANT VALLEY, BUT ALL OF OUR SIXTH GRADERS IN THE DISTRICT AND WE'RE NOT HAVING TO FOOT THE WHOLE BILL TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

SO THAT'D BE GREAT.

OK. NEXT UP IS OUR AUDIT COMMITTEE, DO WE HAVE A REPORT? I HAVE NOTHING TO REPORT.

NO. NO. IN BETWEEN? OK. YEAH. BATTLE GROUND EDUCATION FOUNDATION, DIRECTOR MADDUX? I ALSO HAVE NOTHING TO REPORT ON THAT.

OK, GREAT.

AND WASHINGTON INTERSCHOLASTIC ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION.

OK, SO WE MET HERE THIS MONTH AND WE SPENT THE GOOD MAJORITY OF THE MEETING TALKING ABOUT OR GOING THROUGH A PRESENTATION FOR VIDSWAP BY PIXELLOT.

IT'S KIND OF A COMPETITIVE, OR COMPETITION, TO SAY HUDDLE, WHICH WE USE FOR MOST OF OUR SPORTS DOING, RECORDING AND SIDELINE REPLAY DURING THE GAMES.

IT'S PRETTY COMPARABLE TO SOME ASPECTS, I THINK THAT WITH FOOTBALL IS PROBABLY NOT SOMETHING THAT'S WELL SUITED FOR IT YET.

THEY'RE WORKING GETTING TO THAT POINT, BUT IT IS SOMEWHAT CHEAPER THAN HUDDLE.

SO MAYBE SOME OF THE OTHER SPORTS WANT TO LOOK AT THAT.

THERE'S SOME ONLINE VIDEOS THAT THEY CAN WATCH, AND I BROUGHT SOME PAMPHLET STUFF FOR IT IN THE NAME. AND IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR ANY OF THE COACHES WANT TO INQUIRE JUST HOW TO REACH OUT TO ME OR TOM ADAMS, AND WE CAN GET THEM IN CONTACT WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE. DISTRICT 4 WEBSITES STILL IN PROGRESS.

THEY'RE WORKING THROUGH A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BUGS, SO ONCE THEY GET THAT IRONED OUT, WE'LL GET THE WEBSITE UP.

THERE'S SOME CONVERSATION ONGOING ABOUT MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL HAVING SOME 20 MINUTE RUNNING HALVES RATHER THAN STOPPING THE CLOCK.

I GUESS SOME OF THE GAMES HAD GONE ON FOR [INAUDIBLE] AMOUNT OF TIME, AND IT CAUSED SOME SCHEDULE IMPACTS TO FOLLOW UP GAMES RIGHT AFTER THE ONES THAT WERE BEING HOSTED.

SO MORE NEWS TO COME ON THAT ONE.

THERE IS A VOLUNTEER WORKERS FORUM BEING RELEASED THROUGH WIAA THAT'S GOING TO COVER A LOT OF CHECK THE BLOCK THINGS TO AVOID SOME POTENTIAL CLAIMS FOR LOST WORK, INJURIES, THINGS LIKE THAT. SO THEY'RE ASKING THE [INAUDIBLE] VOLUNTEERS AND [INAUDIBLE] TRY TO USE THEIR FORMS. THERE'S A CONVERSATION GOING ON ABOUT CHANGING THE TERM ACADEMIC SUSPENSION TO ACADEMIC PROBATION AND CHANGING FROM A FIVE WEEK GRADE CHECK TO A THREE WEEK GRADE CHECK ONLY FOR FALL SPORTS.

THAT HAS A LOT TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT FIVE WEEKS INTO A FALL SEMESTER TEND TO BE PRETTY ROUGH, SO THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HELP US MAKE SURE THAT MORE KIDS CAN ACTUALLY PARTICIPATE.

IS THAT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL? THE OK.

THEY'VE ALSO ADDED ME TO THE WSSDA COMMITTEE FOR THE WIAA DISTRICT BOARD COMMITTEE, SO I'LL PROBABLY BE REACHING OUT TO PROBABLY YOURSELF, MARK OR ROB, AND HAVE TO ASK YOU SOME QUESTIONS AND MAYBE SEEING WHAT THINGS ARE OUT THERE THAT I NEED TO COMMUNICATE TO WIAA PRIOR TO THOSE MEETINGS.

AND THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH IT AT THE WIAA MEETING, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MINUTE TO POINT OUT SOME NEW HIRES THAT ARE GOING TO BE ON THE CONSENT AGENDA COMING UP HERE LATER IN THE

[00:20:01]

MEETING, JUST A QUICK SHOUT OUT TO A COUPLE OF HEAD COACHES THAT WE BROUGHT ON.

AS EVERYONE WELL KNOWS, WE'VE LOST OUR HEAD COACHES FOR FOOTBALL HERE RECENTLY, AND BOTH BATTLE GROUND AND PRAIRIE HAVE MANAGED TO GO THROUGH THE INTERVIEW PROCESS AND HIRE ON TWO FOLKS.

AT PRAIRIE, WE'VE BROUGHT ON OR WE'RE VOTING TO BRING ON WILLIAM EPHRAIM FROM HERITAGE.

HE WAS THE DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR AND THEN STEPPED UP TO BE THE HEAD COACH WHEN THEIR HEAD COACH INITIALLY RESIGNED.

SO I HAVE NOT MET HIM YET, BUT I HAVE HEARD SOME AMAZING THINGS ABOUT HIM, SO I THINK WE'RE EXCITED TO SEE HIM AT PRAIRIE.

AND AT BATTLE GROUND, WE'VE HIRED MIKE WOODWARD FROM WOODLAND.

HE'S THE HEAD COACH OVER AT WOODLAND, HE'S--.

I'VE MET HIM, I'VE SPENT SOME TIME IN LENGTH AS A FOOTBALL COACH, I, OF COURSE, SPENT SOME TIME TALKING TO HIM AT THIS POINT, AND WE'RE HIGHLY EXCITED TO ROLL HIM INTO THE PROGRAM AND WHAT HE'S GOING TO BE ABLE TO BRING TO THE TEAM.

AND I JUST SAY WHAT THESE TWO COACHES I'M EXTREMELY EXCITED FOR THE FUTURE OF THESE TWO SCHOOLS AND WHAT THAT MEANS FOR THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM.

YEAH. SO THOSE ARE THE TWO HEAD COACHES WHO BROUGHT THEM.

AND TED, ISN'T IT TRUE THAT MIKE IS AN ALUMNI OF YEAH--.

SO THAT'S KIND OF COOL AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.

[LAUGHTER].

WELL, THANK YOU, THAT'S GREAT. YEAH, AND I KNOW I DON'T WANT TO STEAL ANY OF RITA'S THUNDER IF SHE'S GOT IT IN THERE, BUT I KNOW WE HAD A COUPLE OF STATE CHAMPION WRESTLERS AT PRAIRIE IN BETWEEN TIME, SO THAT'S QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT--.

CHAMPION HERE TONIGHT. OH--.

OK. AT ONE OF OUR NEXT UPCOMING BOARD MEETINGS WILL HAVE THEM HERE SO WE CAN CELEBRATE THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS. YEAH.

THAT'D BE GREAT, AND IT MAKES ME THINK IF THE REST OF THE BOARD IS IN AGREEMENT, YOU KNOW, THIS BEING THE FIRST YEAR IN--.

IS IT 40 YEARS THAT WE'VE HAD MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS? HOW LONG? IS IT 40? YES. WOW. IT MIGHT BE NICE TO GET AN OCCASIONAL UPDATE, I'M SURE THERE'S CHALLENGES AND THINGS, BUT IT'S A BIG COMMITMENT BY BOTH THE PREVIOUS GENERATION BOARDS AND THIS BOARD TO--. WELL, JUST SO YOU KNOW, TODAY WAS THE OPENING DAY OF GIRLS BASKETBALL.

GREAT. AND SO SHELLY AND I AND SEVERAL OTHERS HERE, RITA, RITA'S DAUGHTER, IS ACTUALLY PLAYING TODAY. SO WE WENT TO THE TUKES DAY BREAK GAME, AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU THERE WAS THERE WERE PROBABLY 250 SPECTATORS THERE WATCHING THE GAME.

THE SMALL GYM WAS WAS FILLED, IT WAS OVER CAPACITY.

THE LARGE GYM, EVERY SEAT WAS TAKEN.

SO IT WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TO SEE THAT KIND OF STUFF.

WE HAD BLAZE AGAIN, THE TRAILBLAZER MASCOT, HE CAME AND HELPED KICK OFF THE GAMES IN BOTH THE LARGE GYM AND THE SMALL GYM, SO.

BOY'S SEASON, YOU KNOW, MARK, YOU ASKED FOR JUST TO JUST GIVE YOU A QUICK UPDATE.

ALL OF THIS REALLY WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH FOR US.

I KNOW THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT WE CAN GET BETTER AT FROM A FACILITY STANDPOINT.

KEVIN AND I ARE ALREADY TALKING ABOUT PUTTING IN SCOREBOARDS IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL GYMS BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE THEM RIGHT NOW AND MAYBE SOME BLEACHERS, SOME SMALL PULL OUT BLEACHERS THAT WE CAN SET UP.

BUT SO THINGS LIKE THAT FROM A FACILITY STANDPOINT, BUT I HAVE TO GIVE KUDOS TO OUR COACHING STAFFS THAT HAVE, AND MARK, YOU MENTIONED THIS LAST TIME, A LOT OF COACHES, A LOT OF TEACHERS AND STAFF AND CLASSIFIED STAFF STEPPED FORWARD TO HELP US THERE, OUR CUSTODIANS HAVE HELPED TO DO ALL THE SETUP AND GET THAT GOING, OUR ADMINISTRATORS ARE DOING SUPERVISION, OUR REGISTERS AND OUR SECRETARIES IN THE MAIN OFFICE ARE HELPING GET KIDS REGISTERED AND SETTLED AND COMMUNITY ED IS PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN THAT.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT PIECES AND IT'S BEEN VERY GRATIFYING AND VERY COOL TO SEE.

I THINK IT'S ANOTHER STEP FOR US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OF ENGAGING OUR COMMUNITY AND BEING TRANSPARENT AND DELIVERING ON OUR PROMISES.

SO IT'S FUN.

CAN I ADD IF YOU'D LIKE TO SEE A GAME BECAUSE THEY ARE THIS WEEK AND, NEXT WEEK, SO MONDAY, WEDNESDAY AND FRIDAY, AND THEY GENERALLY START AT FOUR O'CLOCK AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WE'LL [INAUDIBLE] SCHEDULE ON THE WEBSITE.

IF YOU'D LIKE TO GO, LOOK AND VISIT ONE OF THE GAMES.

YOU SAID MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY? YEAH.

AND DENNY YOU MENTIONED THE CROWDS WHERE THEY MAINLY STUDENTS OR PARENTS OR SPEAKERS]? I MEAN, IT WAS IT WAS OLDER STUDENTS, IT WAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, IT WAS

[00:25:04]

RELATIVES, IT WAS YOUNG KIDS, IT WAS PARENTS, IT WAS EVERYBODY CHEERING FOR THEIR SISTER OR THEIR DAUGHTER OR THEIR FRIEND OR THEIR COUSIN, OR--.

YOU KNOW, IT WAS VERY, VERY, VERY COOL.

VERY NICE. AND THE BASKETBALL WAS GOOD, TOO.

[LAUGHTER] YEAH. WELL, THANKS TED, FOR SERVING ON THAT COMMITTEE, AND I APPRECIATE THE UPDATE. IT'D BE NICE TO CONTINUE TO GET SOME AS WE MOVE THROUGH THIS FIRST YEAR OF MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS IN A LONG TIME.

I CAN REACH OUT TO HEATHER CUSHING, WHO COACHED BOYS BASKETBALL, AND SHE'S DOING THE GIRLS AND ASK IF SHE CAN COME AND SPEAK.

AND I'M ALSO TO GO TO A COUPLE OF THE GIRLS PRACTICES AND KIND OF HANG OUT WITH THEM AND MS. CUSHING. I THINK OUR NEXT SEASON AFTER GIRLS BASKETBALL IS SOCCER, RIGHT? GREAT. AND A LOT OF KUDOS TO TOM ADAMS, I MEAN, HE REALLY WORKED HARD TO GET THIS GOING, AND HE ALWAYS TOLD ME IT'S GOING TO WORK OUT, IT'S GOING TO WORK OUT [LAUGHTER] AND IT IS . GOOD TO HEAR. OK.

NEXT UP IS OUR WASHINGTON STATE SCHOOL DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION UPDATES, AND I ASKED LISA TO GRAB AN ITEM OFF THERE.

ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANYTHING TO REPORT? OK, I SAT IN ON THE THURSDAY CALL THAT THEY ALWAYS HAVE JUST TO GET AN UPDATE, THERE WAS A LOT GOING ON AND DIRECTOR TIM GARTRELL MENTIONED THAT NEW TO THE WSSDA WEBSITE UNDER ABOUT WSSDA, IF YOU GO UP TO THE TOP OF THE PAGE, IS THIS FEATURE OF WHAT IS WSSDA, AND IT CAME FROM QUESTIONS THAT PEOPLE HAD ABOUT STATE AGENCIES AND REGULATIONS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. AND SO I'LL ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO LOOK AT IT ON YOUR OWN.

I'M JUST KIND OF POINTING OUT WHERE IT IS.

SO UNDER THAT FIRST TITLE, WHAT IS WSSDA? EVEN I LEARNED NEW THINGS, EVEN THOUGH I'VE BEEN LOOKING INTO IT FOR A WHILE.

WSSDA IS 100 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR, 1922 BY--.

[INAUDIBLE] THE SCREEN? [LAUGHTER]. [INAUDIBLE] WORK [INAUDIBLE].

JUST TO NOTICE KIND OF THE HISTORY OF WHERE IT STARTED AND THAT IT IS PUT TOGETHER BY LAW AND NOT JUST KIND OF THIS AD HOC GROUP OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THAT GET TOGETHER AND THEN DOWN AT THE BOTTOM, IT WAS NICE FOR ME TO GO BACK THROUGH THE MISSION AND VISION SINCE WE'RE KIND OF DOING THAT AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT OURSELVES WITH OUR UPDATED STRATEGIC PLAN.

IT WAS GOOD JUST TO REMIND.

AND IF YOU DO HAPPEN TO GO TO THAT, I THINK WHAT YOU'LL FIND IS PUTTING KIDS FIRST IS THEIR MISSION AND VISION, JUST LIKE MOST SCHOOL DISTRICTS, SO YOU MIGHT CHECK THAT OUT.

OK, TOURS COMMITTEE, WE'VE GOT THINGS COMING UP.

YEAH, WE DO.

OR DID WE HAVE ONE? TOMORROW. TOMORROW IS--.

OK, I SEE IT. YEAH, SO TOMORROW WE HAVE--.

GROUP ONE? YEAH, MAPLE GROVE, AND THEN ON FRIDAY WE HAVE TWO GROUPS GOING OUT, GROUPS TWO AND THREE, CAPTAIN STRONG PRIMARY AND THE WAREHOUSE AND ALSO CHIEF AND LEWISVILLE.

GREAT. AND TOMORROW WITH MAPLE GROVE, WE'RE ALSO VISITING FACILITIES OPERATIONS.

OH, GREAT. I WILL MARK IF YOU HAVE A MOMENT.

SURE. WE ARE TRYING TO RESCHEDULE THE TOURS THAT WE MISSED.

YES, WE'RE HAVING SOME DIFFICULTY REARRANGING THE PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL TOUR AND THE MAIN ISSUE THAT WE'RE HAVING IS THAT THE SBAC TESTING AND THE AP TESTING THAT'S OCCURRING IN THE WINDOW THAT WE'RE TRYING TO RESCHEDULE, SO I JUST WANTED THE BOARD TO BE AWARE.

WE WERE LOOKING FOR A FRIDAY AND THEN THE ONLY FRIDAY WE COULD FIND WAS BACKED UP TO MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, WHICH TYPICALLY A FRIDAY BEFORE A HOLIDAY IS NOT A REALLY GOOD TIME TO GO AND DO A TOUR.

SO WE WERE LOOKING AT MAY 24TH, WHICH WAS A TUESDAY, FOR PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT BECAUSE OF THE TESTING THAT'S GOING ON, WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO A MORNING TOUR.

SO IT'S JUST CURIOUS WHETHER OR NOT THE BOARD WOULD CONSIDER, AND OBVIOUSLY I KNOW THAT SOME BOARD MEMBERS MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT, [INAUDIBLE] THAT THE BOARD WOULD

[00:30:01]

CONSIDER MAY 24, AND IT'S A TWO AND A HALF HOUR LATE ARRIVAL BECAUSE OF THE TESTING SCHEDULE, SO WE WOULD PROBABLY START THE TOUR SOMEWHERE AROUND 10:30 OR 11 O'CLOCK AND BE THERE FOR, YOU KNOW, THROUGH LUNCH AND RIGHT AFTER THAT.

SO THAT REALLY IS OUR ONLY WINDOW IF WE WANT TO GET PRAIRIE IN.

SANDY, IS THAT ACCURATE? SANDY, I COUNT ON HER TO MAKE SURE OF MY FACTS ARE STRAIGHT.

DON'T WE ALL? [LAUGHTER] YES.

OKAY, GREAT. WELL, IF BOARD MEMBERS COULD LOOK AT THEIR CALENDARS AND SEE IF THAT'S EVEN A--.

JUST TAKE A LOOK. SANDY WILL--.

NOT THAT WE'RE TRYING TO AVOID PRAIRIE.

IT'S JUST IT'S A SCHEDULING PREDICAMENT.

SO IS THAT NOT THE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND, BUT THE ONE BEFORE? [LAUGHTER] YES.

IT'S TUESDAY.

OH, IT'S A TUESDAY.

OK. ALL RIGHT.

NO, I GET IT, YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO AVOID US.

IT'S OKAY. ALL I KNOW IS I HAD TO DO THE CHICKEN DANCE LAST FRIDAY AND YOU DIDN'T SHOW UP. [LAUGHTER] I WAS AT WORK AND THEN I TEXTED RICARDO AND I WAS LIKE, IS IT OVER? IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO-- I KNOW, AND HE CALLED ME [LAUGHTER] WAS AT WORK.

AND HE CHICKEN DANCED WITH ME, BUT YOU KNOW.

WAS SOMEONE RECORDING? YES. IT WILL BE ON--.

[LAUGHTER] I CAN'T WAIT.

[LAUGHTER] YEAH.

OK. YEAH.

OK.

YEAH, I CAN HARDLY WAIT. [LAUGHTER] OK, BEFORE WE LEAVE THE WSSDA SECTION, [INAUDIBLE] LET YOU KNOW I DID HAVE MY STATE TRUST LANDS COMMITTEE MEETING TONIGHT.

I TRADED THE STATE LEG COMMITTEE FOR THE STATE TRUST LANDS AND I'LL MAYBE BRING A SMALL PRESENTATION. THEY ACTUALLY ARE UPDATING WHAT THEY CALL THEIR TRUST LANDS 101, AND THERE IS A PIECE OF LEGISLATION GOING THROUGH THAT WOULD ALLOW FOR LONGER TERM LEASES, WHICH I THINK MIGHT AFFECT OUR COMMERCIAL TRUST LANDS [INAUDIBLE] THE CASEE PROJECT, WHICH ALREADY HAS A PRETTY GOOD LENGTH LEASE, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE IT PASSED BOTH THE HOUSE AND THE SENATE TO PROVIDE FOR AS MUCH AS A 99 YEAR LEASE ON COMMERCIAL PROPERTY SO THEY CAN BE COMPETITIVE. AND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THAT, THAT PRETTY MUCH LOCKS IN THAT PIECE AS A, YOU KNOW, A SCHOOL DISTRICT PROPERTY, SO THAT'D BE OUR LEASE PROPERTY.

SO IF THAT TURNS OUT TO BE TRUE, I THINK THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR US.

DIRECTOR REPORTS.

I JUST HAD SOMETHING I WANTED TO SHARE.

AT THE LAST MEETING, THERE WAS AN ITEM ON THE AGENDA FOR THIRTY ONE LAPTOPS THAT WE VOTED ON AS A BOARD AND I THOUGHT I WAS BEING CAREFUL TO ASK ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOLS, BUT I MISSED THREE OF THEM.

AND SO I WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE MY MISTAKE THAT WE HAVE FIVE HIGH SCHOOLS, NOT TWO, AND SO ALTHOUGH THE CTE LAPTOPS DIDN'T AFFECT THOSE OTHER THREE HIGH SCHOOLS AT THE TIME, IT WAS A MISSTEP ON MY PART, AND SO I JUST WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT BECAUSE THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT. SO.

THANK YOU. OK, AND I'LL MENTION THAT AT FOUR O'CLOCK THIS AFTERNOON, I JUMPED ON A ZOOM MEETING WITH THE REBOOTED TUKES VALLEY PTO AND WOW, WHAT AN ENTHUSIASTIC GROUP, NICE SIZED GROUP, AND AGAIN, I'M SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD, BUT OUR PTOS ARE ONE OF THOSE NOT AS WELL NOTICED AS THEY SHOULD BE CONTRIBUTORS.

THEY TALKED ABOUT ALL THE DONATIONS THAT THEY MADE, EVEN WHEN THEY WERE STRUGGLING TO PUT THEMSELVES BACK TOGETHER AND WHAT THEY CONTRIBUTE TO THE STUDENTS EACH YEAR, AND I THINK THE THING THAT REALLY STOOD OUT FOR ME IS PARENTS JUST BANDING TOGETHER TO SAY, WE WANT OUR KIDS TO HAVE A FUN AND ENJOYABLE SCHOOL EXPERIENCE, AND THEY'LL DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO KIND OF HELP MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

SO THAT WAS VERY REWARDING AND WISH THEM BEST OF LUCK AS THEY MOVE FORWARD.

OK, I THINK THAT'S IT FOR OUR SCHOOL, DIRECTOR REPORTS [INAUDIBLE] COMMUNICATIONS.

SO SUPERINTENDENT AND STAFF UPDATES.

[6. Superintendent and Staff Updates]

THANK YOU, MR. PRESIDENT. FIRST, I'D LIKE TO START WITH A COVID CASE UPDATE, [INAUDIBLE]

[00:35:06]

A LITTLE TEASER HERE. AS YOU KNOW, PRIOR TO THE WINTER BREAK THAT WE WENT ON, WE WERE AVERAGING ABOUT A HUNDRED CASES A WEEK, THEN OMICRON HIT AND WE WERE AS HIGH AS 400 CASES A WEEK, AND THE OMICRON HAS DEFINITELY SUBSIDED FOR US, WE'RE WELL PASS THE PEAK.

I REPORTED AT OUR LAST BOARD MEETING THAT WE WERE BACK AROUND 100 CASES A WEEK, AND I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT IT'S BEEN TWO WEEKS SINCE OUR LAST BOARD MEETING.

FOR THE WEEK OF 2/12 THROUGH 2/18, WE HAD A TOTAL OF ONLY 59 CASES, FIVE STAFF AND 54 STUDENTS, AND LAST WEEK WE HAD A TOTAL OF 30 CASES, 4 STAFF AND 26 STUDENTS.

SO VERY, VERY GOOD NEWS.

WE HAVEN'T SEEN THOSE NUMBERS SINCE--.

I DON'T KNOW SINCE WE STARTED TESTING AND THE REPORTING, WE HAVEN'T SEEN NUMBERS THAT LOW, SO THAT'S EXCITING. ALSO A BIT OF MORE NEWS TODAY, JAY INSLEE, OUR GOVERNOR, ISSUED A STATEMENT, 'WE'VE CONTINUED TO MONITOR DATA FROM OUR STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HAVE DETERMINED THAT WE ARE ABLE TO ADJUST THE TIMING OF OUR STATEWIDE MASK REQUIREMENT.

IN WASHINGTON, INDOOR MASK REQUIREMENTS WILL BE LIFTED AS OF 11:59 P.M.

ON MARCH 11TH.

THIS NEW DATE DOES NOT CHANGE ANY OTHER ASPECTS OF THE UPDATED MASK REQUIREMENTS.

MASKS WILL STILL BE REQUIRED IN CERTAIN SETTINGS, INCLUDING HEALTH CARE, CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES AND LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES.

THE WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH WILL BE ISSUING NEW GUIDANCE FOR K-12 SCHOOLS NEXT WEEK SO THAT SCHOOLS CAN PREPARE TO IMPLEMENT UPDATED SAFETY PROTOCOLS'.

SO THAT MEANS NINE MORE DAYS OF SCHOOL FOR US WITH MASKS AND THEN MASKS WILL BECOME OPTIONAL, SO WE ARE--.

I KNOW THAT THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ARE EXCITED ABOUT THAT NEWS.

I ALSO RECOGNIZE, AND BOARD MEMBER MADDUX POINTED THIS OUT AT OUR LAST BOARD MEETING, THAT THERE ARE THOSE THAT ARE STILL CONCERNED ABOUT THE VIRUS, AND I WANT TO ASSURE THE BOARD AND OUR COMMUNITY AND OUR STAFF AND OUR STUDENTS THAT ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO WEAR A MASK WILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO WEAR A MASK AND THAT WE ARE WORKING WITH ANY OF OUR EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE SAFETY OR HEALTH CONCERNS AND MAKING SURE THAT WE DO OUR BEST TO HELP THEM FEEL GOOD ABOUT COMING TO WORK EVERY DAY DESPITE THOSE CONCERNS, SO THAT'S WHERE WE'RE AT. ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME? I WAS TRYING TO LISTEN CAREFULLY, AND MAYBE THIS IS GOING TO BE NEXT WEEK, BUT HOW ABOUT OUR SCHOOL BUSSES [INAUDIBLE]? YEAH. SO GOOD POINT, MARK.

THANK YOU FOR SAYING SOMETHING.

SO WITH THE SCHOOLS, THE SCHOOL BUSSES ARE TRANSPORTATION UNDER OUR FEDERAL MANDATE, BUT WITH THE CHANGES THAT OCCURRED WITH THE CDC GUIDANCE THAT WAS JUST ISSUED LAST FRIDAY, THE SCHOOLS WILL ALSO--.

THE SCHOOL BUSSES WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO TRANSITION TO NO MASKS ON MARCH 12TH.

OK. SO WHEN STUDENTS GO TO SCHOOL ON MARCH 14TH, IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO WEAR A MASK, THEY WON'T HAVE TO WEAR A MASK AT SCHOOL, BUT THEY ALSO WON'T HAVE TO WEAR A MASK ON THE BUS.

[APPLAUSE] GREAT.

I WASN'T SURE ABOUT THAT.

YEAH. GLAD YOU'RE HAPPY ABOUT THAT [INAUDIBLE] YOU ALL HOLD APPLAUSE.

THANKS. SO LIKE I SAID, NINE DAYS.

GREAT. THAT'S IT FOR ME.

I'M GOING TO STOP THERE AND I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO MICHELLE REINHARDT AND IS--.

THERE'S NO HR REPORT, SHE'S ATTENDING A CONFERENCE.

SOME I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO SHELLY FOR A TEACHING AND LEARNING UPDATE.

AND I JUST HAVE A SHORT UPDATE, I JUST WANTED TO TALK BRIEFLY ABOUT THE INDUSTRY FAIR THAT HAPPENED ON FEBRUARY 17TH.

IT WAS AN AMAZING EVENT, AS IT ALWAYS IS.

IT WAS NICE. LAST YEAR WE DID IT REMOTELY, BUT I WANTED TO GIVE A REALLY BIG SHOUT OUT TO CINDY ARNOLD AND HER TEAM, KEVIN DOYLE, DEBBIE SMITH, JUST ALL OF THEM REALLY DID A GREAT JOB. OUR NUMBERS PRE-COVID, WE NORMALLY HAD ABOUT 70 VENDORS THAT WOULD BE IN ATTENDANCE, WE STILL HAD 40 DESPITE ALL OF THE RESTRICTIONS RIGHT NOW.

[00:40:03]

IT WAS IN THE GYM AND SO IT WAS ABLE TO BE SPREAD OUT A BIT RATHER THAN THE CAFETERIA WHERE IT'S TYPICALLY BEEN HELD.

AND WE STILL HAD 250 PARTICIPANT PARTICIPANTS, APPROXIMATELY, AND USUALLY IT'S ABOUT 450, SO NOT BAD CONSIDERING THE REDUCTION AND THE QUESTION OF ARE WE EVEN DOING IT? RIGHT? SO REALLY NICE JOB.

SOME REALLY NEAT VENDORS, IF YOU WEREN'T THERE, THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN BEFORE, SOME DIVERSITY BETWEEN THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT AND AMAZON AND MANY OF OUR LOCAL COMPANIES, MANY OF OUR CONSTRUCTION COMPANIES LOCALLY WERE THERE, JUST A GREAT VARIETY.

I THINK ANYBODY WHO WHO WAS ABLE TO BE THERE COULD SEE THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE IN THE FUTURE IS FOR OUR COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT JUST FOR STUDENTS, IT'S FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO COME AND SEE WHAT'S OUT THERE. BUT IT'S GOT INCREDIBLE POSSIBILITIES, AND BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH HIRING THAT'S NEEDED RIGHT NOW IN ALL INDUSTRIES, I THINK EVERYBODY HAD A LIST OF THEIR OPENINGS AND TRYING TO RECRUIT SO PEOPLE HAVE THEIR CHOICES.

SO IT WAS A NICE EVENT FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT ATTENDED.

GREAT EVENT, GREAT TEAM THAT PUTS IT ON, SO YEAH.

ANY QUESTIONS? OK, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO OUR CFO, MICHELLE SCOTT.

GOOD EVENING BOARD. GOOD EVENING.

DO YOU HAVE THAT? THANK YOU.

SO, THIS IS JUST TO GIVE YOU AN OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS THAT WE DO.

THERE'S A LOT OF DETAILS THAT ARE BURIED UNDERNEATH ALL OF THESE, BUT I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW WHERE WE'RE AT.

SO OF COURSE, WE'RE WAITING THROUGH THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION TO WRAP UP, SO--.

BUT IN JANUARY, WE WERE, YOU KNOW, WATCHING THE LEGISLATIVE BILLS FOR IMPACT TO THE DISTRICT AND THEN ADVOCACY FOR FUNDING TO SCHOOLS, AND THEN WE STARTED IN FEBRUARY, AFTER OUR FEBRUARY ENROLLMENT WAS TAKEN, WE STARTED ANALYZING THE ENROLLMENT TRENDS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS AND FORECASTING, VERY DIFFICULT WITH COVID NUMBERS INVOLVED IN SOME OF THOSE. SO KIND OF PULLING THOSE OUT AND TRYING TO LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, PRE-COVID INFORMATION. SO WE HAVE BEGUN THE FORECASTING FOR NEXT YEAR'S ENROLLMENT AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR, OF COURSE, WE'RE MONITORING THE LEGISLATIVE BILLS FOR IMPACT IN THE ENROLLMENT STABILIZATION AND THE PROTOTYPICAL FUNDING FORMULA CHANGES AND TRANSPORTATION FUNDING AND IPD, AND SO THOSE ARE STILL UNRESOLVED.

WE'LL HAVE THOSE, HOPEFULLY ON MARCH 10TH.

AND SO THEN THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION IS SCHEDULED TO END IN MARCH AND THEN THE FINAL STATE BUDGET WILL BE RELEASED AND THAT'S A SCHEDULED DATE AND THEN FROM THERE, WE CAN START TO PROJECT ENROLLMENT, APPORTIONMENT FUNDING AND OTHER REVENUE FORECASTING, AS WELL AS BUILDING STAFFING FILES UPDATED AND REVIEW BEGINS.

SO THIS IS JUST MAKING SURE STAFFING IS IN THE RIGHT SPOT, IF THERE'S ANY CHANGES TO ENROLLMENT IN A GRADE BANDS OR IN SOME OF THE SCHOOLS AS KIDS SHIFT THROUGH SCHOOLS AND GRADES. SO WE'LL BE DOING THAT AND THEN HR BUDGETING BEGINS, WHICH IS ALSO JUST KIND OF ANOTHER PROCESS BESIDES STAFFING THAT'S ALSO INVOLVED AND JUST ACTUALLY DOING OUR PERSONNEL BUDGET AND THEN GRANTS BUDGETING.

AND WE'VE ALREADY STARTED OUR ASB BUDGETING AND WE'RE MEETING WITH ALL OF THE SCHOOLS, ALL THE ASBS, WE WANTED TO REALLY JUST SPEND TIME WITH THEM ON BUDGETING, AND SO IT'S GREAT GETTING TO RECONNECT AND WORK WITH THE SCHOOLS.

AND THEN DEPARTMENT BUILDING BUDGETS RELEASED WITH INITIAL ALLOCATIONS, AND AS YOU KNOW, IT'S LIKE PUTTING A GREAT BIG PUZZLE TOGETHER WITH ALL THE FUNDING AND EXPENDITURES AND ALL THAT, SO WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK ON THE BUDGETS IN APRIL AND THEN WE'LL WORK ON OUR CAPITAL PROJECTS FUND AND OUR DEBT SERVICE FUND BUDGETING.

AND THEN IN MAY, WE PLAN ON FINALIZING THE BUDGETS FOR ALL OF THE FUNDS AND WORKING ON OUR FUND BALANCE PROJECTIONS.

IN JUNE, WE WILL ALSO BE SCHEDULED TO WORK ON OUR FOUR YEAR PROJECTIONS, SO THAT'S ALSO

[00:45:02]

SOMETHING THAT WE DO SO THAT WE CAN KIND OF LOOK TO THE FUTURE IN IN STABLE FUNDING AND IN ENROLLMENT, AND THEN WE'LL PROVIDE THE BOARD A BUDGET UPDATE OR WORK SESSION, DEPENDING ON TIME, WHAT'S ALLOWED IN TIME.

AND THEN JULY, WE WILL DEFINITELY HAVE A BOARD BUDGET WORK SESSION, AND THEN IN AUGUST, WE'LL HAVE OUR PUBLIC BUDGET HEARING AND BOARD ADOPTION.

SO THAT'S JUST A EIGHT MONTH VIEW OF ALL THE WORK THAT GOES INTO BUDGETING, BUT IT'S A LONG PROCESS, BUT IT'S GREAT WORK AND WE LOVE IT.

SO. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? I THINK I HAVE ONE. SO AFTER, THANKFULLY, THE LEVY PASSED IN NOVEMBER, WE DID THE SECOND PUBLIC BUDGET HEARING TO APPROVE THOSE UPDATES AND THINGS LIKE THAT, AND THAT GOES ON OUR DISTRICT WEBSITE, RIGHT? YES. YES. SO THEY CAN GO UNDER--.

THE PUBLIC CAN GO INTO THE FINANCES AND THINGS LIKE THAT? YEAH. SO WHEN YOU DO THESE UPDATES, DO ANY OF THOSE SHOW UP IN THOSE DOCUMENTS ON THERE, OR IS IT ESSENTIALLY UNTIL WE DO THE NEXT PUBLIC ONE IN AUGUST? YEAH. SO WHEN WE DO OUR BUDGET WORK SESSION AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE A PRESENTATION AND WE'LL DO A PRESENTATION TO THE BOARD AND HAVE A FILE, A DRAFT FILE, UNTIL IT'S APPROVED BY THE BOARD. SO YEAH, DEFINITELY--.

YEAH, JUNE. OK. YEAH, JUNE TO JULY, DEPENDING ON WHERE WE'RE AT, SO IT'LL BE EITHER JUNE OR JULY, SO. ALL RIGHT.

GREAT. MICHELLE, WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO MAYBE SHARE THAT SCHEDULE WITH THE BOARD, JUST EMAIL IT TO US OR WHATEVER? IT'S JUST HELPFUL TO KIND OF KNOW WHAT MONTH WE'RE IN SOMETIMES.

SURE.

OH YEAH, THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MICHELLE.

KEVIN JOLMA, OPERATIONS REPORT.

GOOD EVENING.

GOOD EVENING, BOARD. I'LL BE QUICK TONIGHT, SO OBVIOUSLY WE DO MOST OF OUR WORK IN THE SUMMER OR A LOT OF IT, BUT WE DO HAVE SOME SMALL PROJECTS GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

WE'VE GOT SOME SMALL FENCING, STORAGE PROJECTS GOING AT AMBOY AND BOTH BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL. WE DO PROJECTS WE CAN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR THAT WE CAN THAT DON'T HAVE TO WAIT TILL SUMMER, SO WE'RE NOT DOING ALL OF OUR WORK THEN.

LEWISVILLE BUILDING A, YOU'LL SEE THAT ROOF HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT TWO THIRDS DONE.

NO PROBLEMS YET, IT'S GOING QUITE WELL, ACTUALLY.

OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF WORK GOING ON IN THE B BUILDING GETTING READY FOR THE CAM RELOCATION, SO IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO DROP BY, IT'S LOOKING PRETTY GOOD.

SCOTT MCDANIEL HAS BEEN ORDERING MATERIALS FOR IT FOR THOSE UPGRADES AS WELL.

BEEN WORKING WITH CINDY ARNOLD AND THEIR CTE SQUAD AT BATTLE GROUND, LOOKING AT HOW WE'LL OVERALL COMING UP WITH A NICE FIVE YEAR PLAN OF PHASING IMPROVEMENTS THROUGHOUT THOSE NEXT FIVE YEARS, AND HER DEPARTMENT, [COUGH] EXCUSE ME, ARE WORKING ON THAT.

QUESTIONS? NOT A QUESTION, BUT I TOOK YOU UP ON YOUR INVITATION TO GO LOOK AT BUILDING B WHERE THE CAM CLASSROOMS ARE, YOU GOT THOSE PRETTY CLEANED UP.

YEAH. IT LOOKS LIKE--. ARE ALL THE [INAUDIBLE] WALLS WORKING? YEP. OH, NICE. AND THEY'RE ALL PAINTED AS OF TODAY.

OK, GREAT.

[INAUDIBLE] LOOK AT. THANK YOU, KEVIN.

THANK YOU. AND NO COMMUNICATIONS REPORT.

SO THAT TAKES CARE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE.

GREAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

[7. Citizens' Comments]

SO. NEXT UP IS OUR CITIZENS COMMENTS.

WE GOT EIGHT PEOPLE ON THE LIST, BUT I HOPE--.

NOPE, SHE JUST SHOWED UP. OK.

I DID TALK TO THE GROUP AS THEY CAME IN THE DOOR, AND WE'VE GOT FIVE PRESENTERS WHO ARE KIND OF ON THE SAME TOPIC, SO I'M TAKING SOME PRESIDENTS PRIVILEGE AND REARRANGING THE ORDER JUST A LITTLE BIT TO GROUP THAT GROUP TOGETHER, AND SO FIRST UP WILL BE TERRY DOTSON, SECOND EUNICE INGERMANSON, THIRD, JESSICA COLE AND THEN OUR GROUP THAT CAME TOGETHER, VICTORIA FERRER, ARMIDA NUNEZ, MIKE HARLOW, I HOPE I SAID THAT RIGHT, NATASHA, I'LL LET YOU TELL ME YOUR NAME, AND THERE AND PHIL HOGAN, YOU WILL BE NEXT AFTER THAT.

SEVERAL PEOPLE I RECOGNIZE, SEVERAL PEOPLE I DON'T, SO I'M GOING TO GO AHEAD AND READ OUR

[00:50:06]

PUBLIC COMMENT POLICY.

THE BOARD RECOGNIZES THE VALUE OF PUBLIC COMMENT ON EDUCATIONAL ISSUES AND THE IMPORTANCE INVOLVING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC IN ITS MEETING.

INDIVIDUALS, AFTER IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES, WILL PROCEED TO MAKE COMMENTS WITHIN OUR TIME LIMITS ESTABLISHED BY THE BOARD, WHICH FOR OUR BOARD IS THREE MINUTES.

WE HAVE A TIMER OVER HERE, SHE'LL HOLD UP A 30 SECOND CUE CARD.

IF YOU DON'T NEED YOUR WHOLE THREE MINUTES, THAT'S FINE, WE'LL MOVE TO THE NEXT ONE.

THE PRESIDENT MAY INTERRUPT OR TERMINATE AN INDIVIDUAL STATEMENT WHEN IT IS TOO LENGTHY, PERSONALLY DIRECTED, ABUSIVE, OBSCENE OR IRRELEVANT.

THE BOARD AS A WHOLE HAS THE FINAL DECISION IN DETERMINING THE APPROPRIATENESS OF ALL SUCH RULINGS, AND WE ARE STILL UNDER OUR MASK RULES UNTIL THAT.

SO THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THE PODIUM WITH YOUR MASK AND JUST SPEAK INTO THERE.

SO FIRST UP, TERRY DOTSON.

THE TIMER WORKS.

I WAS TURNING DOWN THE VOLUME.

YOUR TIME'S UP, MARK. [LAUGHTER] YEAH.

SORRY. YEAH. SOMEBODY SHOULD CUT ME OFF.

IS MY TIME UP SYDNEY? NOT YET.

MY NAME IS TERRY DOTSON AND I AM THE CHAIR OF THE BATTLE GROUND CITIZENS FOR BETTER SCHOOLS, AND WE JUST CAME OFF OF THE LEVY, AS YOU KNOW, IN NOVEMBER, AND I'M HERE TONIGHT TO PROMPT THE BOARD TO START PUTTING SOME THOUGHTS TOGETHER AROUND A BOND.

I BELIEVE A YEAR FROM NOW WE'RE GOING TO BE VOTING ON A BOND IF THAT'S--.

AM I CORRECT, DENNY? IN ABOUT FEBRUARY OF NEXT YEAR? NW, A YEAR FROM NOW, OUR CURRENT BOND SUNSETS.

OK? AND THEN IT WOULD BE UP TO THE BOARD TO DECIDE WHETHER OR NOT TO PLACE A NEW BOND IN FRONT OF THE VOTERS. SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO DO THAT, I'M HERE TO TELL YOU THAT I AM PREPARED WITH A TEAM TO GO INTO THE COMMUNITY AGAIN AND HELP YOU GET THAT BOND PASSED, BUT WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE THE FUNDS ARE GOING TO BE SPENT SO WE CAN CONCENTRATE ON SPECIFIC AREAS WITHIN THE DISTRICT.

WHAT TYPE OF MAINTENANCE OR WHAT TYPE OF BUILDINGS YOU'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT DOING SO THAT WE ARE WELL PREPARED TO GO FORWARD.

WE HAD THREE MONTHS TO WORK ON THE LEVY AND I'D LOVE TO HAVE A YEAR TO WORK ON A BOND, SO THAT'S THE ONLY REASON I'M HERE TONIGHT IS JUST TO GET PEOPLE TO START THINKING ABOUT THOSE TYPES OF THINGS, AND WE'LL JUST START MOVING FORWARD.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

THANK YOU. AND TERRY, YOU REMINDED ME THAT I SHOULD TELL OUR CITIZENS COMMENT PEOPLE, THE BOARD LISTENS TO THE CITIZENS COMMENTS DOESN'T NORMALLY RESPOND DURING THE MEETING.

YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO CONTACT MYSELF OR ANY OF THE BOARD MEMBERS OR SUPERINTENDENT WATERS INDIVIDUALLY TO CARRY ON A TWO WAY CONVERSATION AND--.

BUT WE MAY DIRECT OUR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF TO LOOK INTO ANY OF YOUR QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS, AND SO--.

I KNOW SUPERINTENDENT WATERS, YOU'VE MENTIONED ABOUT MAYBE USING THE CITIZEN'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO HELP WITH INPUT ON THAT.

YEAH, I THINK THAT MAKES SENSE, MARK.

THERE'S A STANDING COMMITTEE AND THEY REPRESENT A WIDE RANGE OF CONSTITUENTS AND DIFFERENT VIEWPOINTS.

SO I THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD PROJECT FOR THEM TO TAKE ON IF THE BOARD WANTED ME TO PROCEED IN THAT DIRECTION.

THE PREVIOUS EFFORT, WE HAD A GROUP CALLED THE FIT COMMITTEE, THE FACILITIES AND THAT--.

FACILITIES IMPROVEMENT TEAM.

PROBABLY NOT A NEED FOR TWO DIFFERENT ONES.

THERE WAS A LEVEL OF EXPERTISE THAT WAS ON THE FIT TEAM, WE HAD SOME REAL ESTATE PEOPLE, SOME SOME BUILDERS, SOME CONTRACTORS, SO THEY WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT.

BUT I THINK WE CAN STILL OFFER THAT SAME LEVEL OF EXPERTISE TO THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY, IF WE WERE PLANNING A BOND, I WOULD BE WORKING CLOSELY WITH KEVIN, AND KEVIN HAS A LOT OF DIFFERENT CONNECTIONS AND COULD BRING PEOPLE IN TO PROVIDE A FOUNDATIONAL BASE OF KNOWLEDGE FOR THE CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO MOVE FORWARD AND MAKE SOME RECOMMENDATIONS.

ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU. OK, I THINK I SAID EUNICE WOULD BE SECOND UP.

THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING BOARD.

GOOD EVENING. MY NAME IS EUNICE INGERMANSON, I USE SHE HER PRONOUNS AND I AM A COMMUNITY MEMBER. I HAVE BROUGHT YOU ANOTHER SAFE ZONE SIGN TO REMIND YOU OF THE IMPORTANCE OF SAFE

[00:55:01]

ZONES IN OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR COMMUNITY.

I RAISE MY THREE CHILDREN TO ADULTHOOD WITH A HOMOPHOBIC AND TRANSPHOBIC ATTITUDE.

WHAT INFORMED ME TO DO THAT? WELL, WHEN I WAS LITTLE, PROBABLY IN RESPONSE TO HOW WOMEN WERE TREATED AND OPPRESSED BY MEN IN MY CULTURE, I ASKED MY MOTHER WHY GIRLS COULDN'T JUST MARRY GIRLS.

THE VIOLENCE IN THE VOICE WITH WHICH MY MOTHER ANSWERED THAT QUESTION [INAUDIBLE] SUCH A QUESTION WOULD NOT BE TOLERATED A SECOND TIME.

PLUS, PEOPLE WHO DO THAT KIND OF THING ARE UNDER GOD'S WRATH, SEALED THE PATH TO ANY FURTHER INQUIRY IN MY MIND AND LEFT A SKULL AND CROSSBONES SIGN IN THAT GENERAL DIRECTION. THIS WAS REINFORCED BY THE TEACHING OF THE CHURCHES THAT I ATTENDED AND KIND OF BECAME AN AXIOM IN MY LIFE, AND I DID NOT KNOW THE DAMAGE THAT MY SOMEWHAT TRAUMATIZED CONSCIENCE INFLICTED ON MY OWN DAUGHTER UNTIL SHE CAME OUT TO ME AS GAY AT THE AGE OF TWENTY THREE. WHAT WAS FOR ME, A HABIT OF MINE TO STAY OFF AN UNCOMFORTABLE SUBJECT WAS TO HER A CHOKEHOLD THAT BLOCKED HER FROM BEING HERSELF AND INFORMED HER THAT AN IMPORTANT AND UNALTERABLE PART OF HER BEING WAS WRONG AND HATEFUL TO GOD AND TO HER MOTHER, SHE COULD NOT [INAUDIBLE].

I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO BE ALL OF A SUDDEN LGBTQ AFFIRMING.

SHOULD YOU WANT TO EXPLORE THAT POSSIBILITY, I WOULD LOVE TO COME ALONGSIDE YOU IF YOU WANT COMPANY OR RESOURCES.

I AM ASKING THAT EACH OF YOU DECLARE YOURSELF A SAFE PERSON FOR LGBTQ PERSONS TO LET YOU KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND COMMIT TO NOT TOLERATE HARMS COMING THEIR WAY IN YOUR SPACE.

THIS WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE ONE-FIFTH OF OUR STUDENT POPULATION, WHO DON'T FIT NEATLY IN THE TRADITIONAL BOXES OF GENDER ROLES OR SEXUALITY, BUT ARE NONETHELESS PRECIOUS CHILDREN OF THE CREATOR WHO MADE THEM IN HIS IMAGE.

WHO KNOWS? IN DOING SO, YOU MAY BE SAVING YOUR OWN LOVED ONES.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU, EUNICE.

HELLO, BOARD, MY NAME IS JESSICA COLE, MY PRONOUNS ARE SHE HER, AND I'M A COMMUNITY MEMBER FORMER PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN THE DISTRICT.

I WAS LISTENING ON SWAGIT, SO I HEARD ALMOST EVERYTHING.

THANK YOU, JACKIE, FOR ACKNOWLEDGING ALL FIVE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS, I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT BEING ONE OF THOSE THREE MORE MINOR ONES, AND I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE EXTRA STUDENT THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING.

AND LIKE TONIGHT THE PRESENTATION OF THE COLORS, AND IF NOBODY WANTS THEIR SMOKED CHEDDAR CHEESE, I WILL TAKE THEM OFF YOUR HANDS.

[LAUGHTER] AND I HAVE A REQUEST FOR COMMUNICATIONS, APRIL IS JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH AND I HAVE SEEN, DON'T REMEMBER HIS NAME, BUT THE BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ TEACHER AT, PRE-PANDEMIC, AT COMPETITIONS WITH STUDENTS, AND I EVEN LOOKED UP RECENTLY, PRE-PANDEMIC, THERE WERE LIKE SEVERAL SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT, HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AT CLARK.

AND THANK YOU.

THANK YOU ALL. IF YOU LOOK ON RESEARCH ON THE BRAIN, ON JAZZ, IT'S LIKE REALLY GOOD AND I'M NOT GOING TO QUOTE IT BECAUSE I'LL MESS IT UP AND IT'S GOOD TO LISTEN TO IT, BETTER TO PLAY IT AND BEST TO IMPROVISE.

LIKE THE THINGS LIKE THAT GOES ON IN YOUR BRAIN IS AMAZING.

SO I WAS IN JAZZ BAND, IF YOU DIDN'T GUESS ALREADY.

[LAUGHTER] ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS IS CALLED WATERMELON MAN, I JUST THE NAME IS FUNNY AND CUTE TO ME, I LOOKED UP THE HISTORY ON IT, SO IT'S A HERBIE HANCOCK SONG FROM THE 1960S.

I WILL SEND YOU A LINK. IT'S AMAZING.

I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD PLAY WELL TONIGHT, OTHERWISE I'D PLAY A LITTLE SNIPPET.

HE REMADE IT A DECADE LATER, BUT IT WAS MORE FUNK AND I LIKE THE 1960S ONE.

AND JUST TO PROVE THAT ALL ROADS LIKE LEAD ME TO GEORGE MICHAEL, GEORGE MICHAEL DID ACTUALLY SAMPLE THAT SONG LIKE THE 1970S ONE, LIKE IN THE 90S, SO LIKE ME AND GEORGE MICHAEL ARE DESTINED TO BE.

[LAUGHTER] AND, YOU KNOW, JUST READING ON THE HISTORY.

[LAUGHTER] SORRY, NOT REALLY.

SO IT'S JUST INTERESTING, LIKE I'VE BEEN READING ON THE HISTORY OF JAZZ AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY AND THE GAY COMMUNITY AND LIKE IN AMERICA AND SOME OF THEM GOING LIKE OVER TO FRANCE AND STUFF, IT'S VERY INTERESTING.

SO MY REQUEST IS THAT LIKE AT MINIMUM, A VIDEO BE MADE LIKE FOR JAZZ APPRECIATION MONTH,

[01:00:01]

OF LIKE STUFF GOING ON.

I KNOW YOU CAN'T DO ALL REQUESTS, BUT LIKE, THAT'D BE SUPER COOL BECAUSE YOU'VE BEEN DOING ALL KINDS OF OTHER THINGS, AND I WOULD REALLY LIKE THE JAZZ.

THEY COULD COME IN AND JUST BLAST THIS OUT.

THAT WOULD BE SO COOL, BUT THAT'S ALL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THANK YOU, JESSICA.

[INAUDIBLE] RICARDO.

MUSIC PROGRAMS WOULD BE NICE TO FEATURE SOMETIME.

YEAH.

OK. NEXT UP, VICTORIA FERRER.

HOPEFULLY, I SAID THAT RIGHT? YES, SIR . YOU'RE GOING TO MY GLASSES ARE FOGGY.

I DON'T KNOW HOW YOU DO THIS.

IT'S NOT EASY. [LAUGHTER] NOT MUCH LONGER.

YEAH.

OKAY. I DON'T KNOW IF ANY OF THESE LOOK FAMILIAR TO YOU GUYS.

YEAH, I KNOW THAT'S PARTLY MY FAULT.

OK. OH MY GOSH, I CAN'T SEE.

AT THE START OF THIS YEAR, A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT OF PARENTS ACROSS THE STATE SUBMITTED IDENTICAL PUBLIC DISCLOSURE REQUESTS TO OVER 60 SCHOOL DISTRICTS PREPARED BY TRIBAL LAWYER LUIS EWING.

YOU HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED THESE LENGTHY DOCUMENTS AND SHOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH THEIR CONTENTS. WAPA THE WASHINGTON PARENTS ALLIANCE CONTINUES TO GROW AND CURRENTLY HAS OVER TEN THOUSAND PARTICIPANTS, WITH MORE DISTRICTS COMING ON BOARD EVERY WEEK.

THIS IS NOT A FUNDED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION, AND YOU WILL NOT FIND MUCH INFORMATION ABOUT WAPA ONLINE.

THIS MOVEMENT OF PARENTS HAS GATHERED TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES ON THE WASHINGTON LAWS THAT CREATE AND GOVERN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM.

FOR TOO LONG OUR PARENTS AND MYSELF HAVE BEEN IGNORANT OR UNINVOLVED IN MATTERS THAT GOVERN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEM.

YEAH, THERE YOU GO. FAR TOO LONG, YEAH.

OUR PARENTS, SORRY, HAVE BEEN IGNORANT OR UNINVOLVED IN MATTERS LIKE INFLUENCE IN OUR CHILDREN'S EXPERIENCE IN SCHOOL, AND WE AIM TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THAT MISTAKE.

WHAT WE DISCOVERED IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS PRESENTING THESE PDRS AT SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS ACROSS THE STATE WAS ASTONISHING.

THE MORE THE MAJORITY OF SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, ACTUALLY, THEY WERE JUST AS IGNORANT OF THE LAWS THAT GOVERN THEM AS WE WERE.

PERHAPS WE CAN LEARN TOGETHER, TYPE IN RCW 28A INTO ANY SEARCH ENGINE TO BEGIN THE JOURNEY AS WE SHARED THESE DOCUMENTS TO BOARD MEMBERS.

WE WERE MET WITH MULTIPLE REACTIONS.

MANY WERE GRATEFUL FOR EFFORTS PARENTS WERE MAKING TO HELP THEM FIND INFORMATION FROM STATE AGENCIES THAT THEY WERE ALSO CURIOUS ABOUT.

THEY APPRECIATED THAT WE WERE BRINGING ATTENTION TO LAWS THAT THE SCHOOLS MIGHT BE VIOLATING. OTHER BOARD MEMBERS REACTED WITH CONFUSION AND OTHERS REVEALED HOW LITTLE THEY KNEW OF THE RECENT LAWS PASSED OR AMENDED THAT LEGALLY COMPEL THEM TO ATTEND WSSDA TRAINING THAT THEY MAY OR MAY NOT AGREE WITH.

WE KNEW WE WERE NOT FOLLOWING PROTOCOL WHEN WE SENT YOUR THESE ORDERS TO YOUR HOMES, RATHER THAN SUBMITTING THEM TO THE PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICE OF EACH DISTRICT.

WE WERE USING THESE PDRS AS A PROCESS TO DO THE JOB THAT OUR COUNTY SHERIFFS AND YOUR LEGAL COUNSEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING, EDUCATING YOU ON THE LAWS THE SCHOOLS COULD BE VIOLATING AS THEY HAVE FORCED OR COERCED VACCINES AND MASKS ON EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS.

WHERE SHOULD I LEAVE THESE? CAN YOU TAKE THEM. OK, THANK YOU [APPLAUD].

OUR MEETING IS UP NEXT, AND OUR GENERAL OPERATING POLICY IS, IF YOU WILL NOT APPLAUD FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL, THAT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

WELCOME, THANK YOU.

[INAUDIBLE] GOOD EVENING BOARD, AS DESCRIBED IN THE PDRS, THE SOCIAL SECURITY ACT AS CODIFIED IN THE FEDERAL LAW. CAN I GET YOU TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF? OH SORRY, NATASHA GEORGIA.

GOT YOU. THANK YOU. CODIFIED IN THE FEDERAL LAW TITLE 42, CHAPTER SEVEN, SUBCHAPTER 19, SECTION 1396 F, AS CODIFIED AT 42 U.S.C.

1396 F, APPEARS TO PROVIDE A FEDERAL RELIGIOUS EXEMPTION FROM ALL MEDICAL TREATMENT OR TESTING BASED UPON RELIGIOUS OBJECTION.

HOW MANY TEACHERS AND STAFF APPLIED FOR RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS FROM THE EXPERIMENTAL COVID

[01:05:02]

19 VACCINE AND WERE DENIED? HOW MANY INVALUABLE TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS WERE FORCED TO QUIT OR BE COERCED INTO GETTING A MEDICAL PRODUCT THEY HAD HESITATIONS ABOUT? EVERY STATE IN THE UNION HAS A LAW ON INFORMED CONSENT, WHICH OUTLINES THAT MEDICAL DOCTORS MUST INFORM PATIENTS OF RISKS AND BENEFITS OF ANY MEDICAL PRODUCT OR DEVICE AND RECEIVE A CONSENT TO ADMINISTER THE DRUG OR DEVICE WITHOUT COERCION.

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THREATENING ONE'S JOB IF THEY DO NOT TAKE A VACCINE COULD BE CONSIDERED COERCION? MEDICAL DOCTORS DID NOT MANDATE YOUR EMPLOYEES GET VACCINATED.

THE DISTRICTS DID.

IS THE DISTRICT COMPROMISE COMPRISED OF MEDICAL DOCTORS WHO HAVE THE ABILITY TO CARRY OUT INFORMED CONSENT? HOW ABOUT SECTION 504 OF THE REHABILITATION ACT OF 1973 AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT AMENDMENT AMENDMENTS ACT OF 2008, WHICH CLEARLY OUTLINES THAT A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS FROM A DOCTOR IS NOT REQUIRED TO GET AN ACCOMMODATION FOR A DISABILITY.

HOW MANY PARENTS IN YOUR DISTRICTS APPLIED FOR A MEDICAL EXEMPTION FOR THEIR CHILDREN WHO HAD DIFFICULTY WEARING A MASK? HOW MANY WERE COERCED INTO THINKING THEY WERE LAWFULLY COMPELLED TO PROVIDE A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS TO GET THAT MASK EXEMPTION? HOW MANY WERE DENIED EVEN AFTER GETTING A DOCTOR'S NOTE? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. IT'S A DIFFERENT OR DIFFERENT ORDER THAN YOU GAVE ME, BUT THAT'S OK.

NEXT SPEAKER. AND JUST INTRODUCE YOURSELF WHEN YOU GET TO THE MIC.

MICROPHONE.

[INAUDIBLE] PAGE THREE OF SECTION 504 STUDENTS OF THE DISABILITIES PDF FOUND ON THE WEBSITE FOR THE WASHINGTON STATE OFFICE OF SUPERINTENDENT FOR PUBLIC INSTRUCTION CLEARLY STATES THAT SCHOOLS CANNOT REQUIRE A PARENT TO PROVIDE A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS TO EVALUATE A STUDENT.

YET SEATTLE SCHOOL DISTRICT REQUIRED A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS ON A MASK EXEMPTION FORMS. HOW MANY OTHER SCHOOLS PLAYED THAT TRICK ON PARENTS INSINUATING THAT PARENTS NEED TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO PROTECT THEIR CHILDREN WHEN LAWFULLY THEY DID NOT? WHEN PUBLIC OFFICIALS IMPLY AUTHORITY THEY DO NOT HAVE OR INTUIT LAW REQUIREMENTS THAT DO NOT EXIST.

IS THIS NOT OPERATING UNDER THE COLOR OF THE LAW? WE ARE NOT LAWYERS, BUT WE LAST CHECKED.

OPERATING UNDER THE COLOR OF LAW IS CALLED OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT AND GROSS MISDEMEANOR BY THE STATE. RCW 9 A- OR .80.010 OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT.

ONE A PUBLIC SERVANT IS GUILTY OF OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT IF THEY INTENT TO OBTAIN A BENEFIT OR TO DEPRIVE ANOTHER PERSON OF A LAWFUL RIGHT OR PRIVILEGE.

A HE OR SHE INTENTIONALLY COMMITS AN UNAUTHORIZED ACT UNDER COLOR OF LAW, OR B HE OR SHE INTENTIONALLY REFRAMES FROM PERFORMING A DUTY IMPOSED UPON HIM OR HER BY LAW AND 2 OFFICIAL MISCONDUCT OF A GROSS MISDEMEANOR.

WAPA SERVED YOU THESE PUBLIC DISCLOSURE REQUEST AS A COURTESY AND IN FAVOR TO INFORM YOU THE POSSIBLE OF LEGAL LIABILITIES THAT YOU OWN.

THE USDA GROOMED LAWYERS DID NOT.

THE STATE AGENCIES THAT COMPLIED COMPELLED THE SCHOOL DISTRICTS TO CARRY OUT MASKING AND VACCINATING MEASURES KNEW THAT THE SAFEST WAY TO AVOID LEGAL LIABILITY FOR VACCINE INJURIES AND HARMFUL EFFECTS OF LONG TERM MASK WEARING WAS TO PASS LIABILITY DOWN TO THE LOWEST LOCAL LEVEL.

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

WHY DID USDA SEND A STATEWIDE ALERT AND ADVISE SCHOOLS TO SEEK LEGAL COUNSEL WHEN THEY WERE INFORMED THAT SO MANY DISTRICTS ACROSS THE STATE WERE BEING SERVED IDENTICAL PUBLIC DISCLOSURE REQUEST ASKING FOR THE UNIDENTIFIED RECORDS.

THROUGH RPRS, WE ARE ALERTING OUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS TO A LEGAL LIABILITY THAT THEIR OWN LEGAL COUNSEL MAY HAVE BEEN TOO NERVOUS OR IGNORANT TO SHARE WITH THEM.

IF YOU CLAIM THAT YOU WERE JUST FOLLOWING THE ORDERS FROM THE STATE, WILL THAT PROTECT YOU DOWN THE LINE? IT'S PROVEN THAT THE GOVERNOR'S EMERGENCY ORDER WAS BASED ON FRAUDULENT DATA.

AND ON A TOTALLY DIFFERENT NOTE AS AN ALUMNI.

I JUST WANT TO SAY, WHEN DO I HAVE A A LITTLE BIT OF TIME? NINE SECONDS. IT JUST KIND OF REALLY HURT AS AN ALUMNI WHEN THE STUDENTS WERE PROTESTING

[01:10:01]

STANDING UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS, I WOULD PROBABLY BE BEEN ONE OF THOSE KIDS AND I COULDN'T EVEN DRIVE THROUGH TO JUST KIND OF SAY, HEY, GUYS, I'M PROUD OF YOU JUST FOR STANDING UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. IT WAS ONE DAY THAT IT WAS IT WAS JUST LIKE, I JUST JUST FOUND THAT REALLY DISTURBING, AND I COULDN'T DO THAT AS A AS AN ALUM TO APPLAUD THOSE KIDS.

THANK YOU. NEXT, SPEAKER.

MY NAME IS PHIL HOGAN.

I LIVE IN BATTLE GROUND.

I GOT KIDS IN SCHOOL AND I'M THE LAST FOURTH READER FOR THIS, FOR THE PUBLIC DISCLOSURE REQUESTS. IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW MANY OF THE REQUESTS WE MADE IN THOSE DOCUMENTS WERE, IN A SENSE, RHETORICAL QUESTIONS.

WE ASKED FOR SPECIFIC DOCUMENTS ON THE SAFETY DATA FOR THE COVID VACCINES THAT WE KNOW DOES NOT EXIST.

WE DID THIS TO POINT OUT THAT THESE DOCUMENTS SHOULD EXIST.

LIKE HOW CAN VACCINES BE MANDATED TO TEACHERS AFTER PFIZER HAS BEEN SO RELUCTANT TO SHARE SAFETY DATA WITH THE PUBLIC? AND THERE'S NO INFORMATIONAL INSERTS IN THE VACCINE PACKAGES.

WE ASKED FOR PROOF OF FDA AUTHORIZATION BECAUSE WE KNOW IT DOESN'T EXIST.

THE VACCINES ARE STILL UNDER EMERGENCY YOUTH EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION, WHICH IS ANOTHER WAY FOR VACCINE MANUFACTURERS TO EXEMPT THEMSELVES FROM LIABILITY FOR THE INJURED. THESE ARE BOLD STATEMENTS, BUT THEY'RE MEANT TO HELP YOU SEE THROUGH THE VEIL OF MEDIA CENSORSHIP THAT KEPT THE REAL DATA FROM YOU.

OUR MOVEMENT IS COMPRISED OF TEACHERS WHO'VE ALREADY BEEN INJURED BY THESE VACCINES, BUS DRIVERS WHO SUFFER FROM NUMB EXTREMITIES, BASKETBALL COACHES WHO'VE HAD PARALYZED ARMS, TEACHERS WITH STROKES AND BLOOD CLOTS, AND TOO MANY, TOO MANY PEOPLE HAVE RECENTLY BURIED THEIR PARENTS, WHO DIED OF HEART FAILURE AFTER TAKING THE VACCINES.

SO PLEASE GET CURIOUS AND DIG DEEPER.

OUR GOAL IS TO WORK WITH YOU, NOT AGAINST YOU.

AFTER ALL, WE'RE NEIGHBORS IN THE SAME COMMUNITY WHO OUGHT TO BE LOOKING OUT FOR EACH OTHER. MAY GOD DELIVER US FROM THIS MESS.

ONE GOOD DECISION AT A TIME.

RESPECTFULLY, THE PARENTS OF WASHINGTON.

AND THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE.

THANK YOU, PHIL. WAS THAT IT OR DO WE HAVE ONE MORE? NO, THAT'S ALL. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU FOR COMING. YOU WERE, WELL, COORDINATED.

I BELIEVE THAT BRINGS OUR CITIZENS COMMENT TO A CLOSE.

SO WE'RE ON TO OUR CONSENT AGENDA.

[8. Consent Agenda]

GET SITUATED HERE.

TONIGHT'S CONSENT AGENDA INCLUDES ITEM A APPROVAL OF THE CONSENT AGENDA.

ITEM B APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE FEBRUARY 14, 2022 REGULAR MEETING ITEM C CONTRACTS FOR RATIFICATION. ITEM D PERSONNEL REPORTS.

ITEM E STUDENT TRAVEL, ITEM F SECOND MEETING AND ADOPTION OF THE ONLINE POPFIZZ CURRICULUM FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ITEM G SURPLUS MATERIALS.

IF THERE'S ANY REQUEST TO CONSIDER THE ANY ONE OF THESE SEPARATELY, WE CAN DO THAT.

OTHERWISE, I WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVED THE CONSENT AGENDA AS PRESENTED.

OK, IT'S BEEN MOVED THAT WE APPROVE THE CONSENT AGENDA AS IT WAS PRESENTED.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE, AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED.

MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO.

NO OLD BUSINESS.

SO OUR FIRST ITEM OF NEW BUSINESS BRINGS UP OUR APPROVAL OF THE CAREER AND TECHNICAL

[10. New Business]

EDUCATION PLAN FOR 20-2023.

CINDY ARNOLD. CINDY ARNOLD, CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION DIRECTOR, I'D LIKE TO THANK THE

[01:15:06]

BOARD FOR LISTENING TO MY PRESENTATION TONIGHT.

I'D LIKE TO THANK THE ROTC PROGRAM AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL FOR PRESENTING THE COLORS TONIGHT. AND I'D LIKE TO ALSO THANK COLONEL OLLER AND CHIEF EDDINGS [INAUDIBLE].

FLORAL DESIGN IS WHO DID THE FLOWERS FOR YOU TONIGHT FROM PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL MARY SORENSON'S PROGRAM.

THERE'S ALSO THE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS I'VE HAD TO PRACTICE SAYING THAT.

THE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS ARE FROM BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL GENE FRITZ AS YOU MET HIM TONIGHT. AND WHAT DESIGN DID THE BOARDS THAT ARE UNDERNEATH THE CHARCUTERIE BOARDS THEY HAVE BEEN STAMPED BY THE CNC MACHINE AND THE WOODSHOP.

AND SO I'D LIKE TO THANK THOSE PROGRAMS FOR DOING A LITTLE PRESENTATION FOR YOU TONIGHT.

OH, THIS EVENING I'M GOING TO GO OVER WHAT CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION IS FOR YOU.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE IN BATTLE GROUND? JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE INFORMATION ON THAT, A FEW CT UPDATES AND I'D LIKE TO HOPEFULLY HAVE YOU APPROVE THE CTE DISTRICT PLAN.

THERE'S A FEW PANDEMIC STATISTICS.

ENTRY LEVEL COLLEGE HIRING FELL 45 PERCENT SINCE THE START OF THE PANDEMIC IN DECEMBER OF 2020, A SURVEY SHOWED 57 PERCENT OF COLLEGE STUDENTS FELT THAT HIGHER EDUCATION WAS NO LONGER WORTH THE COST.

THE TRADE AND TECHNICAL SCHOOL MARKETS GROWTH WILL REACH $16 BILLION IN THE 21-22 YEAR PUTTING TRADE SCHOOLS ON A STEADY FOOTING, AND IT'S PROJECTED THAT THERE WILL BE A SHORTFALL OF $3.4 MILLION JOBS IN THE UNITED STATES AND THE SKILLED AND TECHNICAL FIELDS THIS YEAR. SO NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

OH, SO WHICH IS BETTER TRADE SCHOOL, UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, APPRENTICESHIP TECHNICAL SCHOOL OR GOING TO WORK RIGHT OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH IS BETTER? ALL OF THEM. AND THAT'S WHY IT'S A GOOD THING THAT CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PREPARES ALL OUR STUDENTS FOR ANY OF THESE CHOICES.

IT CONNECTS WITH THEIR LEARNING TO REAL WORLD APPLICATION.

IT PROVIDES BASIC SKILLS EMPLOYEES WANT IN THEIR EMPLOYEES.

OUR PROGRAMS HELP STUDENTS MAKE WISE CAREER CHOICES.

IT'S BETTER FOR THEM TO MAKE THOSE CHOICES NOW, NOT WHEN THEY'RE IN COLLEGE.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION COMBINES ACADEMIC AND TECHNICAL SKILLS IN ALL OF OUR CLASSES KIDS GET THE KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING NEEDED TO SUCCEED IN OUR WORLD TODAY.

CT INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES IN A REAL WORLD, APPLIED CONTEXT IN THE CLASSROOM.

AND OUR EMPLOYEES WANT TO HIRE STUDENTS THAT HAVE THOSE BASIC SOFT SKILLS AND OUR PROGRAMS. EVERY ONE OF THEM TEACH OUR STUDENTS 21ST CENTURY SKILLS.

OUR CLASSROOMS PRINT BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT.

OUR STUDENTS COLLABORATE.

OUR TEACHERS WORK WITH KIDS TO GAIN TO HELP THE KIDS GAIN THOSE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.

OUR CLASSES LOOK LIKE THIS.

BATTLE GROUND CT SPANS NEARLY EVERY INDUSTRY, INCLUDING THE HEALTH SCIENCES, ENGINEERING, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AGRICULTURE, MEDIA PRODUCTION, CULINARY ARTS, CONSTRUCTION TRADES, AUTOMOTIVE, WELDING, MACHINING, BUSINESS AND MARKETING, STEM, ASL AND ROTC.

HIGH QUALITY CT PROGRAMS LINK SECONDARY LINK ART CLASSES IN THE HIGH SCHOOL TO POST-SECONDARY OPTIONS.

WHEN I SHOW YOU THE NEXT SLIDES, THE THE CLASSES THAT HAVE A GOLD DOT NEXT TO THEM ARE ALL DUAL CREDIT, SO THOSE CLASSES HAVE COLLEGE CREDIT ATTACHED.

WE ALSO HAVE OVER HALF OF OUR CT CLASSES HAVE EQUIVALENCY CREDIT, SO THEY ARE CONNECTED TO AN ACADEMIC EQUIVALENT, FOR EXAMPLE, HORTICULTURE.

YOU CAN GET BIOLOGY CREDIT, SO OVER HALF OF OUR CLASSES HAVE THAT EQUIVALENCY.

CT IS NOT A TRACK, BUT A PEDAGOGY.

SO JUST BECAUSE A STUDENT TAKES THREE YEARS OF WELDING DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN HE OR SHE IS GOING TO BE A WELDER, BUT IT MIGHT HELP THEM DECIDE WHAT THEY WANT TO DO, AND MAYBE

[01:20:04]

THEY WILL MAKE WELDING A PART OF WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.

THESE ARE THE CT PATHWAYS IN BATTLE GROUND.

THESE ARE SOME OF OUR CLASSES UNDER THE AGRICULTURE AND NATURAL RESOURCES STRAND.

SO AS I SAID, THE THE GOLD DOTS MEAN THAT THOSE ARE EITHER COLLEGE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL OR ARTICULATIONS WITH TYPICALLY IT'S CLARK COLLEGE.

WE ALSO HAVE A COUPLE WITH EVERETT COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THE BLUE DOTS.

THOSE MEAN THAT THOSE CLASSES STUDENTS CAN GAIN WHAT'S CALLED AN INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIAL. THIS IS THE HUMAN SERVICES STRAND, SO WE HAVE THAT'S PART OF OUR EDUCATION AND TRAINING SIGN LANGUAGE, CULINARY ARTS, APPAREL AND INTERIOR DESIGN.

THAT'S ALL A PART OF THE HUMAN SERVICES STRAND.

WE HAVE THINGS LIKE PRAIRIE PRESCHOOL.

WE HAVE OLDER, YOUNGER PROGRAM.

SKILLED AND TECHNICAL INCLUDES ALL OF THESE AUTOMOTIVE, COMPUTER PROGRAMING, ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING, WELDING, MACHINING, WOOD DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION TRADES, AND THE ROTC PROGRAM, AND THESE ARE THE CLASSES UNDER EACH ONE OF THOSE STRANDS.

AND AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE THE DUAL CREDIT AND THE INDUSTRY RECOGNIZED CREDENTIALS.

HERE'S A COUPLE OF PICTURES, SO ON THE LEFT IS THE JEWELRY AND METALS PROGRAM AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL. ON THE RIGHT IS THE MACHINING PROGRAM AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, SO THAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF OUR SKILLED AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS. WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED CONSTRUCTION TRADES, HVAC, PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL.

THIS CAME OUT OF THE GENERAL ADVISORY.

WE HAD OVER 20 INDUSTRY PARTNERS IN THE BATTLE GROUND AREA THAT SAID, WE REALLY NEED H VAC PLUMBING AND ELECTRICAL WORKERS.

AND SO I WORKED WITH ABOUT 20 PARTNERS TO BRING THIS PROGRAM INTO BEING AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL. AND WE ALSO, AS PART OF THAT, BROUGHT BACK CONSTRUCTION TRADES.

BUSINESS AND MARKETING.

THESE ARE THE BUSINESS AND MARKETING CLASSES.

AGAIN, WE HAVE SCHOOL BASED ENTERPRISES LIKE OUR STUDENTS STORE NIKE CREDIT UNION AS PART AS A PART OF THIS STRAND.

DIGITAL VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS, SO THAT'S OUR VIDEO PRODUCTIONS.

YOU SEE JASON FOSTER ALL OVER THE DISTRICT, HE'S ONE OF THOSE TEACHERS DIGITAL ARTS, AND THIS IS A VERY STRONG PROGRAM AREA AS WELL.

AND HEALTH SCIENCE, HEALTH SCIENCE ACTUALLY HAS OVER 12 COLLEGE CREDITS ATTACHED TO IT.

AND YOU CAN SEE WE HAVE QUITE A FEW COURSES FOR STUDENTS TO GET ON THE PATHWAY TO THE MEDICAL SCIENCES.

IN BATTLE GROUND CTE, THERE ARE 59 FULL TIME AND PART TIME CTE STAFF, CTE TEACHERS, 69 TOTAL STAFF.

WE HAVE ABOUT 200 CLASSES GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

WE HAVE ABOUT 5,286 STUDENTS IN SEATS HEAD COUNT THIS SEMESTER.

IN 2018, IT WAS 4,800 SO WE'VE GROWN ALMOST 500 STUDENTS IN OUR PROGRAMS. WE HAVE 21 CONTENT AREAS AND 98 BASIC COURSE AREAS.

AND NOW WE HAVE A STEM PROGRAM IN EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL AS OF THIS YEAR.

SO THE CTE DISTRICT PLAN IS BEFORE YOU.

WE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND ON THAT.

EVERY PROGRAM HAS TO MEET WITH A PROGRAM ADVISORY IN THE FALL AND TO LOOK AT THEIR PROGRAM AND THEN WHEN THE NEEDS COME TO MY GENERAL ADVISORY.

SO I HAVE MY OWN ADVISORY AND WE LOOK AT ALL OF THAT INFORMATION AND WE DECIDE WE PRIORITIZE. THIS YEAR WE PRIORITIZED SAFETY AND THEN WE PUT WE WRITE THAT WE WRITE THE PRIORITIES IN THE CTE PLAN.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST YEAR.

THERE'S NOW HONORS ENGLISH AT CASEE, WE HAVE MEDICAL INTERVENTIONS AS A NEW COURSE AT THE BOARD APPROVED. WE HAVE NOW AP COMPUTER PROGRAMING.

WE HAD COMPUTER PROGRAMING IN PYTHON AND JAVA.

NOW WE HAVE AP AT BOTH HIGH SCHOOLS.

WE CONTINUE TO UPGRADE THE CULINARY PROGRAMS BECAUSE THEY WERE HOME EC CLASSROOMS AND WE'RE TRYING TO BRING THEM TO INDUSTRY STANDARD AND WE AGAIN HAVE NEW STEM PROGRAM AT EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL.

AND WE ALSO HAD AN EXTERNSHIP FOR OUR NEW TEACHER IN HVAC.

SO THREE OF OUR BUSINESSES TOOK HIM IN LAST SUMMER AND HE WORKED FOR THEM FOR ABOUT THREE WEEKS. I GET A LOT OF HELP FROM OPERATIONS, AND I WISH YOU COULD SEE A BEFORE PICTURE HERE. THIS CLASSROOM WAS JUST IT WAS A CLASSROOM THAT WASN'T BEING USED NEXT TO THE TWO GREENHOUSES AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND WE NEEDED A NEW CLASSROOM FOR OUR AG TEACHER. AND SO THIS IS THE AFTER PICTURE BEAUTIFUL CLASSROOM WASN'T BEING USED.

[01:25:02]

WE NOW HAVE STORAGE FOR ROTC AT PRAIRIE.

WE HAVE A NEW FLOOR ON THE AUTO SHOP AND PARKING AT CASEE WAS WORKED ON THIS YEAR NEXT TO THE GREENHOUSES.

YOU CAN SEE MR. JOLMA HERE WORKING WITH THE BLUEPRINTS.

OPERATIONS WORKED WITH US AND JOSH JOINER.

WE ARE IN THE FLORAL DEPARTMENT AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL AND THERE'S A WHOLE SECTION BEHIND THE AG DEPARTMENT THAT WAS NOT BEING UTILIZED VERY WELL.

IT WAS JUST BEING USED FOR STORAGE AND WE BECAUSE WE'RE GROWING IN THE AG AREA, WE NEED SPACE FOR LABS, WE NEED SPACE FOR EYEWASH STATIONS AND SHOWERS.

WE NEED SOME GAS IMPLEMENTED.

AND SO KEVIN IS THERE WORKING WITH US TO TRY TO COME UP WITH A GOOD PLAN AND WE'VE DECIDED TO MAKE IT ABOUT A THREE TO MAYBE FIVE YEAR PLAN.

I'M HOPING THREE, BUT SO WE ARE TRYING TO PUT THAT TOGETHER AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL, AND I'M PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

IT'S A LARGE SPACE IT'S NOT BEING USED RIGHT NOW.

WE WANT TO DO SOME EXTRA WORK AT CASEE FOR SOME OUTDOOR SITES.

WE WANT SOME HEAT IN THE SHOP THERE.

WE'RE HOPING FOR.

WE HAVE A SPACE FOR CONSTRUCTION TRADES AS PART OF THAT CLEANUP THAT WE DID BEHIND THE AG DEPARTMENT THIS YEAR.

AND WE HAVE WE'RE TRYING TO DO A PRESCHOOL AT BATTLE GROUND HIGH SCHOOL FOR NEXT YEAR AND UP SOME UPGRADES IN THE STUDENT STORE WE HOPE IS GOING TO BE FORTHCOMING IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS.

THESE ARE SOME OTHER ITEMS IN THE PROGRAM OF WORK THAT YOU'LL SEE WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE CT PLAN.

AND AGAIN, SAFETY IS A PRIORITY BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY NEW SCIENCE PROGRAMS. MR. JOLMA AND HIS TEAM ARE HELPING US PUT IN THE SAFETY SHOWERS IN THE EYEWASH STATIONS WHERE THEY'RE NEEDED AGAIN, CONTINUING TO UPDATE CULINARY.

AND WE ALWAYS ARE LOOKING AT TEXTBOOKS AND MAKING SURE THAT ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS HAVE WHAT THEY NEED AS FAR AS INDUSTRY STANDARD.

AND I JUST WANT TO END WITH STUDENTS WHO CONCENTRATE IN THE CTE PROGRAMS SO THAT STUDENTS WHO TAKE TWO OR MORE YEARS OF CTE GRADUATE AT A HIGHER RATE THAN STUDENTS WHO TAKE NO CTE CLASSES, AND THE DIFFERENCE IS PRETTY PRONOUNCED.

STUDENTS WHO CONCENTRATE IN CTE GRADUATED AT A NATIONAL AVERAGE OF 90 PERCENT VERSUS 75 FOR NON CTE STUDENTS.

CTE STUDENTS TEND TO PERFORM AT HIGHER LEVELS ACADEMICALLY DUE TO THE INTEGRATION OF ACADEMIC SKILLS WITH REAL WORLD, SO THEY'RE ACTUALLY HANDS ON.

THEY'RE WORKING IN OUR GREENHOUSES, THEY'RE BUILDING, THEY'RE REALLY LEARNING A SKILL.

I LOVE THIS QUOTE.

TELL ME, AND I FORGET, TEACH ME AND I MAY REMEMBER, INVOLVE ME AND I LEARN, AND THAT'S WHAT MY PROGRAMS DO.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? WELL, I I'M JUST CURIOUS, I MEAN, YOUR YOUR PLAN IS VERY WELL PREPARED.

OBVIOUSLY, YOU MUST REVISE THE PLAN EVERY YEAR.

I MEAN, I KNOW IT'S A FIVE YEAR PLAN, BUT YOU AND YOUR ADVISORY MUST LOOK AT IT CLOSELY EVERY YEAR. IT SOUNDS LIKE, WE DO.

AND SO WHO ELSE IS ON THAT ADVISORY? TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, COMMUNITY INDUSTRY, PEOPLE? I'M JUST CURIOUS. SO THE PROGRAM ADVISORY IS WHERE THE PLAN STARTS.

THOSE ARE INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS PARTNERS IN OUR COMMUNITY ALONG WITH TEACHERS.

AND THEN THE GENERAL ADVISORY IS MADE UP OF TEACHERS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS, SOME COUPLE OF RETIRED PEOPLE AND THEN LOCAL BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY PARTNERS ARE ON THE GENERAL ADVISORY.

IT'S A VERY ROBUST PLAN.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I DON'T HAVE ANY COMMENTS OR EXCUSE ME ANY QUESTIONS, BUT I WOULD SAY THAT I'M A HUGE ADVOCATE FOR CTE AND YOU HAVE A FAN IN ME.

I MEAN, THIS PROGRAM IS AMAZING.

I WISH THAT I HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN MY HIGH SCHOOL GROWING UP, AND I'M A COLLEGE GRADUATE. I'VE BEEN THROUGH TECHNICAL SCHOOLS.

I'VE BEEN IN THE MILITARY.

I CAN TELL YOU THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THESE KIND OF PROGRAMS THESE KIDS IS.

I DON'T HAVE TO TELL YOU IT'S HUGE.

SO I JUST APPLAUD YOUR EFFORTS AND YOUR COMMITMENT AND YOUR PASSION FOR IT, AND I'M ALWAYS HAPPY TO HELP AND GET INVOLVED AND THANK YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. I CAN JUST MAKE A COMMENT TOO THAT FROM OTHER DISTRICTS I'VE KNOWN THIS IS THE MOST ROBUST CTE PROGRAM I'VE EVER SEEN.

AND YOU SERVE SO MANY STUDENTS.

I'M JUST AMAZED AT WHAT YOU'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO.

THANK YOU. WE HAVE A GREAT SUPPORT.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

THANK YOU. I CAN JUST MAKE COMMENTS BECAUSE I WAS IN I THINK IT WAS LIKE A STEM CLASS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL AND WE SAT DOWN AND WE WERE LIKE BUILDING THESE LEGO ROBOTS AND THEN LIKE

[01:30:06]

GIVING THEM COMMANDS THROUGH THE COMPUTER AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

AND IT REALLY IT WAS NOT LIKE ANY TYPE OF CLASSROOM I'VE BEEN IN BEFORE.

YOU KNOW, WE SAT DOWN AT A COMPUTER AND WE WERE DOING OUR WORK ON THE COMPUTER, BUT WE GOT TO TAKE AND DO HANDS ON AND THEN GO WATCH WHAT WE WERE DOING.

AND THEN ALSO FRESHMAN YEAR, WHEN I WAS IN ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY, I SAW THAT THERE WAS FORENSIC SCIENCE AND I REMEMBER THEM TALKING ABOUT IT, AND I WAS SO MAD THAT I WASN'T GOING TO BE THERE NEXT YEAR.

BUT I THINK CTE IS A WONDERFUL THING AND IT'S REALLY IMPACTED ME IN MY CLASSROOMS. THANK YOU, SYDNEY. APPRECIATE THAT.

I WOULD JUST ADD SAY THIS WITH WITH A LITTLE BIT OF HESITATION, BECAUSE IT'S A LOADED QUESTION, BUT THIS HAS BEEN SUCH AN AMAZING TRANSFORMATION WATCHING HOW THIS HAS GROWN, WATCHING HOW THERE'S SUCH A GREAT VARIETY FOR ALL THE STUDENTS LIKE DO YOU HAVE ASPIRATIONS TO MAKE IT EVEN BIGGER? AND SO THAT'S THE LOADED QUESTION, BECAUSE I KNOW THAT'S A LOT TO ASK BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY SO AMAZING.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT.

I ALWAYS LOOKING TO WHAT CAN BE IMPROVED.

WHAT CAN BE CHANGED? WHAT CAN BE UPDATED JUST LIKE THE SPACE BEHIND THE AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT AND JUST SEEING WHERE THERE MIGHT BE A NEED AND WORKING TO JUST MAKE IT BETTER.

SO IN A WAY, I DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT.

I JUST KNOW THAT I'M ALWAYS LOOKING AT IMPROVING AND TRYING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER.

SO I JUST LOVE HOW IT TOUCHES SO MANY DIFFERENT STUDENTS, LIKE THERE'S JUST SOMETHING MAYBE FOR EVERYONE.

AND SO THAT'S GREAT.

THANK YOU. MAYBE THIS IS AN ADD ON TO THAT QUESTION, BUT DO YOU HAVE ANY CONCERN ABOUT BEING ABLE TO SERVE ALL THE STUDENTS THAT WANT YOUR PROGRAMS? YOU KNOW, THAT'S A REALLY GOOD QUESTION.

WE I HAVE TEACHERS THAT HAVE MULTI DISCIPLINES, SO SOMETIMES IT'S VERY TRICKY WHEN WE'RE DOING FORECASTING IN THE SPRING.

BUT I HAVE TEACHERS THAT CAN CROSS OVER INTO A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT AREAS, AND WE HAVEN'T REALLY HAD ANY PROBLEMS WHERE WE'VE HAD SO MANY STUDENTS TRY TO GET INTO A PROGRAM THAT WE'VE HAD TO SAY NO MORE.

SO IT HASN'T REALLY HAPPENED YET.

SOMETIMES I ACTUALLY STRUGGLE TRYING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE FILL ENOUGH PROGRAMS. CONSTRUCTION TRADES WAS PRETTY LOW THE FIRST YEAR, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.

LAST YEAR, WE WORKED WITH A VERY LOW NUMBER OF STUDENTS.

THIS YEAR WE HAVE 17, SO IT'S REALLY GROWING AND SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO GIVE IT A CHANCE AND JUST SAY IT'S GOING TO BE EXPENSIVE THIS YEAR.

BUT WE'RE GOING TO GIVE IT A CHANCE BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THIS IS GOING TO GROW AND IT DOES. SO I HOPE THAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION.

I JUST KIND OF WANT TO SHARE ON TO MORE WHAT CTE HAS DONE.

I REMEMBER I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD AND SOME TYPE OF ASPECT OF IT BECAUSE I GREW UP WITH IT.

BOTH MY PARENTS ARE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD.

AND WHEN I TOOK ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY AND THEN WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE FORENSIC SCIENCE CLASS.

IT MADE ME KNOW THAT THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO BE AND THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO GO IN MY LIFE. AND IT GAVE ME SOME DIRECTION, AND THAT'S KIND OF WHY I WENT AND GOT MY AA IN BIOLOGY BECAUSE I KNEW THAT WAS SOMETHING AND I DON'T THINK I WOULD'VE KNOWN UNTIL OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL WITHOUT YOUR PROGRAM.

SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

AND THAT'S REALLY WHAT WE TRY TO DO IS TRY TO HELP STUDENTS FIND WHAT THEY'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT AND WHAT THEY WANT TO DO.

SO. I THINK MY COMMENT IS REALLY YOU YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION OR COMMENT ONE BY GIVING THIS PRESENTATION. SO MY QUESTION IS HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS GET TO SEE THAT MENU? I RECOGNIZE SOME OF IT FROM THE STUDENT HANDBOOK, BUT I THOUGHT THERE WAS SOME REAL COMPELLING GRAPHICS THAT YOU PRESENTED IN YOUR PRESENTATION HERE.

I ASSUME THIS FORM THAT WE'RE APPROVING TONIGHT IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT'S KIND OF LIKE HANDED DOWN TO YOU BECAUSE THIS IS THIS IS REALLY UNFRIENDLY.

LIKE IF WE WERE TO GIVE THIS PLAN TO THE COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW THEY'D GO RUMMY LOOKING AT IT, SO. RIGHT? ANY IDEAS FOR HOW DO WE ADD THE INDUSTRY IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THAT, OF COURSE.

BUT HOW DO WE MAKE SURE THAT STUDENTS LIKE SYDNEY KNOW OH, MY GOODNESS, I DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS AVAILABLE OR WILL BE AVAILABLE THAT ANY IDEAS FOR HOW WE DO THAT? YEAH, THAT'S A REALLY GOOD POINT, MARK.

AND I'M WORKING WITH A COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT TO DO SOME MARKETING FOR CTE AND DEVELOP MORE ON OUR WEBSITE TO TRY TO MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE ROBUST TO REALLY GET THE WORD OUT TO PARENTS. I THINK SOMETIMES PARENTS REALLY ALSO NEED TO KNOW WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER.

AND SO HOPING TO BE ABLE TO DO MORE OF THAT, TRYING TO DEVELOP SOME FLIERS.

WE DID SOME FLIERS AND PAMPHLETS THIS YEAR FOR 8TH GRADE OPEN HOUSE, BUT HOPING TO DO

[01:35:06]

MORE BECAUSE YOU'RE RIGHT, WE NEED TO GET THE WORD OUT BETTER.

I KIND OF HAVE AN IDEA.

I KNOW WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, WE ALWAYS WHEN WE WERE DOING OUR HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN AND LIKE CAREER PLANNING AND FORECASTING, IT WAS ALWAYS DURING HISTORY CLASS AND YOU'D GO DOWN TO THE CAREER CENTER, MAYBE INCORPORATING SOMETHING WHERE BECAUSE WE ALWAYS HAVE LIKE THE COUNSELORS AND EVERYONE IN THAT ROOM WHILE WE WERE DOING THAT, INCORPORATING SOMETHING SO WHEN THEY ARE DOING THEIR HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND PLAN, THEY KNOW CLASSES AND WHAT THESE CLASSES CAN KIND OF GUIDE AND LEAD THEM TO ALSO IN RELATION TO WHEN THEY ARE FORECASTING.

I THINK THAT WOULD BE A GREAT IDEA.

YEAH. DO WE HAVE ANYONE FROM THE BOARD THAT'S ON THAT ADVISORY? SO I'M ON THE CASEE ADVISORY AND MAYBE ANSWER MARY'S QUESTION JUST A LITTLE BIT.

I SHARE THAT ADVISORY GROUP WITH A DNR FOREST ENGINEER WITH A PUD ENERGY EXPERT, WITH A NONPROFIT LIKE CLARK COUNTY AGENCY THAT WORKS WITH ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION.

THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHERS. CLARK COLLEGE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE TEACHER THAT HELPS WITH CROSS CREDITING COLLEGE IN THE CLASSROOM PIECE.

SO YEAH, IT'S A PRETTY HIGH POWERED GROUP WHEN THEY COME UP WITH IDEAS.

OH, U.S.

FOREST SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE YEAH.

YEAH. AND THAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF WHO GETS TOGETHER THREE OR FOUR TIMES A YEAR AND TALKS WITH THE TEACHERS AND SAYS, HERE'S WHERE THE FUTURE OF THIS INDUSTRY IS RIGHT.

SO EACH PROGRAM AREA HAS SOMETHING SIMILAR TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.

AND WHEN WE MEET, WE USUALLY MEET AT ONE OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, AND THERE'S ABOUT A HUNDRED ALTOGETHER WHO MEET THERE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND AT THE END OF THE YEAR FOR THE PROGRAM ADVISORS.

AND THEN MY ADVISOR IS JUST ANOTHER GROUP THAT GOES OVER A LOT OF THE OTHER INFORMATION THAT COMES TO US FROM THE PROGRAM ADVISORIES.

OK, LOTS OF COMPLIMENTS, ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? GREAT. SO THIS IS A YEARLY APPROVAL THAT IS REQUIRED OF THE CTE PROGRAMS EVERYWHERE AND NICE TO GET AN UPDATE. THANK YOU.

THERE'S NO OTHER QUESTIONS.

I'D ENTERTAIN A MOTION FOR THE APPROVAL OF THE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PLAN FOR 22-23. I'LL MOVE TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVED THE CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PLAN FOR 2022-23.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE, AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES FIVE ZERO.

THANK YOU. GREAT WORK.

WELL DONE. GOOD JOB AND THANKS FOR HELPING GET THE STUDENT SPEAKERS.

OK ITEM B OUR NEW BUSINESS.

PURCHASE OF 3,700 DELL CHROMEBOOKS, MR. MCDANIEL WELCOME.

LET'S GET COMFORTABLE. I'LL BE HERE FOR A LITTLE BIT.

OK. WHAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU, THE FIRST OF THE AGENDA ITEMS I'LL BE PRESENTING IS FOR THE PURCHASE OF 3,700 CHROMEBOOKS.

WHAT WE'RE SEEING WITH WITH THIS PURCHASE IS A COMBINATION OF PURCHASE WITH ESSER FUNDS AND THE DISTRICT'S TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT'S BUDGET.

WHAT WE HAVE GOING ON WITH OUR CHROMEBOOK INVENTORY, OUR FLEET, IF YOU WILL, IS A CONSIDERABLE NUMBER OF DEVICES ARE HITTING THEIR END OF LIFE IN JUNE OF THIS YEAR.

WE'LL SEE 2,000 DEVICES EXPIRE.

IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR, WE SAW 5,000 EXPIRE.

MOST ALL OF THOSE ARE STILL IN SERVICE.

WHAT WE DO FIND IS WE'RE ABLE TO GET AN EXTRA YEAR OF LIFE OUT OF THESE FOR ANY DEVICE THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO DELIVER THE SMARTER, BALANCED TEST, WHICH IS THE MOST SENSITIVE RESOURCE THAT WE HAVE TO SERVE DIGITALLY.

SO IN THE COURSE OF TWO YEARS, WE'VE ESSENTIALLY LOST 7,000 DEVICES.

THIS WILL PARTLY REPLACE THAT.

IN ADDITION, YOU MAY REMEMBER THAT ECF PURCHASE, WHICH IS PART OF E-RATE, ALLOWED US TO GET ANOTHER 1,900.

THE. YOU MAY ALSO BE WONDERING WHY WE'RE PURCHASING THESE NOW ALREADY.

WE WERE NOTIFIED BY OUR VENDORS THAT IF WE START PURCHASING RIGHT NOW, WE MIGHT GET THEM

[01:40:05]

IN AUGUST. YOU PROBABLY HEARD ABOUT THE GLOBAL CHIP SHORTAGES.

IT'S REALLY STARTING TO HIT THE CHROMEBOOKS VERY HARD.

IT WAS WEATHERING IT FAIRLY WELL FOR A WHILE, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY STARTING TO SUFFER.

SO WE FELT IT WOULD BE PRUDENT TO GET THIS GOING NOW.

DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? I HAVE ONE. YES.

I ASSUME BECAUSE THESE ARE BACKFILLING FOR ONES THAT WERE DECOMMISSIONING.

SO. RIGHT? IS THERE ANY SALVAGE VALUE IN THE ONES THAT WE'RE GETTING RID OF? YEAH, THANK YOU. THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

WE DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO SELL THESE BACK TO VARIOUS COMPANIES.

IN THE PAST, WE'VE RESOLD THEM TO A COMPANY, CHROMEBOOKPARTS.COM, AND THEY THEN GIVE US A CREDIT FOR PARTS THAT WE BUY FOR NEWER DEVICES, SO THEY DO HAVE SOME VALUE.

IT DEPENDS ON THE SHAPE THAT THEY'RE IN, AND THEY'LL EVALUATE EACH ONE OF THOSE AND PRESENT US WITH AN OFFER OF WHAT IT WOULD BE WORTH.

SO, YES.

WELL AS A FATHER OF THREE IN THE DISTRICT, I'D LIKE TO BE THE FIRST TO VOLUNTEER THREE CHROMEBOOKS, I'M SURE.

YES. SO SCOTT, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO DO A RENEWAL CYCLE? OR I ASSUME YOU'VE ALREADY MAYBE GONE THROUGH ONE RENEWAL CYCLE, I'M NOT SURE.

WE GO THROUGH RENEWAL CYCLES ALL THE TIME WITH CHROMEBOOKS.

I THINK THAT WE'RE ABOUT 12 YEARS IN ON ONGOING GOOGLE.

FROM THE VERY BEGINNING, IT WAS VERY SMALL START.

YEAH. SO WE'VE REFRESHED SEVERAL TIMES.

THE MAIN DEVICES THAT WENT OUT WOULD BE AN INITIAL SAMSUNG PURCHASE OF A FEW HUNDRED UNITS THAT WE HAD TO THE DELL 11S, WHICH WE ACTUALLY PRESSED BACK INTO SERVICE AT THE BACK AT THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE PANDEMIC AS A STOPGAP TO TO GET US THROUGH.

SO WE DO REFRESH CONSTANTLY.

THEY HAVE EIGHT YEARS OF LIFESPAN ON THEM, WHICH IS VERY NICE.

THEY DO ACTUALLY SURVIVE VERY WELL FOR THE EIGHT YEARS AND WORK QUITE WELL.

AND LIKE I SAID, USUALLY WE CAN GET A NINTH OUT OF THEM.

THE IDEA THAT WE COULD GET NINE YEARS OF LIFE OUT OF A DEVICE THAT'S JUST A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS ACTUALLY OF ANY LEVEL OF OF COMPUTING DEVICE IS QUITE HONESTLY PHENOMENAL.

I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER WITH THAT PART.

BUT YEAH, WE GO THROUGH REFRESHES CONSTANTLY.

EVERY SINGLE YEAR. WE'RE BRINGING IN A COUPLE OF THOUSAND UNITS.

OK. MM HMM. I MORE AND MORE OF OUR CURRICULUM THAT WE ADOPT IS ELECTRONIC, AND THAT HAS PRETTY WELL MESHED WITH OUR CHROMEBOOK SYSTEM.

UH, YEAH, I THINK OUR SYSTEM GETS BETTER AND BETTER INTEGRATING DIFFERENT RESOURCES.

ONE THING THAT HAS CHANGED OVER THE LAST OH, PROBABLY JUST THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS REALLY IS A RAPIDLY INCREASING DEMAND FOR MORE CHROMEBOOKS FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE, WHICH IS FAIRLY NEW.

THEY'RE UTILIZING [INAUDIBLE] VERY HEAVILY.

IT'S IT'S NICE TO SEE.

YEAH. ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? OK, LAST TIME I WAS TRYING TO MOVE RIGHT ALONG BEFORE WE APPROVE SOMETHING, SO I'M NOT GOING TO DO THAT THIS TIME.

SO, YEAH, SO WE HAVE ITEM B IN FRONT OF US.

THE PURCHASE OF 3,700 DELL CHROMEBOOKS, I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION FOR THAT APPROVAL.

I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVED THE PURCHASE OF 3,700 DELL 3310 CHROMEBOOKS.

OK, IT'S BEEN MOVED FOR TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF THE 3,700 DELL CHROMEBOOKS.

LAST CALL FOR QUESTIONS.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE, AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES FIVE ZERO.

GREAT. AND SCOTT GETS TO STAY ONCE OR TWICE MORE, SO ITEM C JUNIPER ETHERNET SWITCHES.

THE AGENDA ITEM IN FRONT OF YOU IS FOR PURCHASING NEW JUNIPER SWITCHES, SWITCHES ARE THE DEVICES THAT YOU PLUG NETWORK DEVICES INTO PHYSICALLY AS OPPOSED TO WIRELESS.

THE DISTRICT HAS SWITCHES IN OBVIOUSLY EVERY BUILDING, QUITE A FEW PORTS AVAILABLE IN EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS AND OUR EXISTING EQUIPMENT IS BROCADE.

BROCADE WAS ACQUIRED A FEW YEARS AGO BY A COMPANY NAMED RUCKUS THAT THE RUCKUS EQUIPMENT FOR WIRELESS IS QUITE EXCELLENT.

THIS IS WHAT WE USE THAT IS RUCKUS EQUIPMENT.

[01:45:01]

THE BROCADE EQUIPMENT IS AGED AND HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SOME INSTABILITY ISSUES FOR US, SO WE FELT IT WAS PRUDENT TO LOOK AT REPLACING IT WITH A NEW MODEL.

WE DID COMPARE THE JUNIPER EQUIPMENT AGAINST CISCO, HP AND RUCKUS, AND WE FOUND THAT NOT ONLY WAS JUNIPER THE BEST PRICE, BUT HAD SOME OF THE BEST FEATURES FOR MANAGING AND FOR ASSISTING WITH DETECTING ANOMALIES ON THE NETWORK THAT COULD INDICATE AN INSTABILITY OR INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVITY.

CYBER ATTACKS.

THE APPLICATION THAT WE PUT FORWARD, YOU'LL NOTICE THIS WAS PART OF AN E-RATE APPLICATION, SHOULD WE BE APPROVED.

WE WILL PAY 50 PERCENT OF THE DOLLAR FIGURE INDICATED.

SO IT'S IT'S QUITE A GOOD DEAL.

IS THERE INSTALLATION INVOLVED? NO, WE'LL [INAUDIBLE] THE INSTALLATION.

OK, YEAH, WE DO THAT ALL THE TIME.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FOR MR. MCDANIEL? I MOVE THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS PURCHASED APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF THE JUNIPER ETHERNET SWITCHES FROM PNW SECURITY LLC.

IT'S BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE PURCHASE OF THE JUNIPER ETHERNET SWITCHES.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE, AYE.

ALL RIGHT. ALL THOSE OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO AND ONE MORE TIME AROUND, INTERCOM PAGING SYSTEMS MR. MCDANIEL. ALL RIGHT, THE LAST AGENDA ITEM IN FRONT OF YOU IS COMPRISED OF FOUR SEPARATE CONTRACTS. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING TO DO IS REPLACE THE OLD ROLAND ISS INTERCOM SYSTEMS THAT WE USED TO HAVE IN ALL OF THE SCHOOLS WITH THE TELECENTRE U.

THESE SIX SCHOOLS REPRESENTED ACROSS THESE FOUR CONTRACTS AMBOY, GLENWOOD LAURIN, PVM, PVP AND YACOLT ARE THE ARE THE LAST REMAINING TO BE UPGRADED.

ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF THE TELECENTRE U, FIRST OF ALL, IS THAT UTILIZES ALL OF OUR EXISTING SPEAKER LOCATIONS, WHICH IS INCREDIBLY WOULD BE INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE AT THIS POINT, AS WELL AS ANY KIND OF CABLING CHANGES SHOULD WE WANT TO MOVE FORWARD WITH A FULL NETWORK BASED INTERCOM SYSTEM.

THIS WILL WORK FOR US IN THE SAME SCENARIO AND WE CAN MAKE THAT ADJUSTMENT.

BUT THE BENEFITS OF IT IS THIS SYSTEM PROVIDES US WITH SOME MUCH BETTER MANAGEMENT TOOLS FOR MANAGING BELL SCHEDULES, FOR MANAGING PAGING ZONES, FOR SCHOOLS TO WORK TOGETHER AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, FOR THE INITIATION OF LOCKDOWNS, INCLUDING MULTIPLE CAMPUS OR EVEN DISTRICT WIDE LOCKDOWNS.

WE CAN WE CAN INSTITUTE THAT FROM A CENTRAL LOCATION.

SO THE CONTRACTS ARE WITH GB MANCHESTER, GB MANCHESTER IS A SOLE SOURCE PROVIDER IN OUR AREA FOR THE ROLAND EQUIPMENT, AND THEY DO EXCELLENT WORK. THEY DID ALL THE OTHER INSTALLATIONS FOR US AS WELL OBVIOUSLY.

DO THESE QUALIFY FOR E-RATE AS WELL? NO, THEY DO NOT, UNFORTUNATELY.

YEAH. HOW LONG HAVE WE HAD THE OTHER ONES IN PLACE? THEY THEY PREDATED ME, SO I'VE BEEN HERE 23 YEARS.

YEAH, WE THEY WERE BANDED TOGETHER FOR QUITE A WHILE, THEY'VE BEEN OBSOLETE FOR SEVERAL YEARS. JUST AS A FOLLOW UP TO THAT, HOW LONG YOU SAID THESE ARE THE LAST FOUR TO GET INSTALLED. HOW LONG HAVE THESE SAME SYSTEMS BEEN IN THE OTHER SCHOOLS? WE STARTED RIGHT BEFORE THE PANDEMIC IS WHEN WE STARTED DOING THE UPGRADES.

YEAH. AND HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY COMPLICATIONS OR, NONE, YOU'RE COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH ALL OF IT. I'M COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH IT.

OUR NOW PERMANENT EMPLOYEE WHO IS ON THE CONSENT AGENDA, JAMIE MANAGES THE INTERCOM SYSTEM NOW AND I CAN TELL HE'S SMILING THROUGH HIS MASK TO AND HIS EYES WERE SMILING.

THANK YOU. YEAH.

YEAH, YEAH.

THE TELECENTRE U PRODUCT LINE.

IT ISN'T.

THIS ISN'T FRESH OUT OF THE OUT OF THE PRODUCTION LINE.

THEY'VE HAD A FEW YEARS TO RUN WITH IT, AND IT'S IT'S VERY SOLID.

[01:50:01]

OK. YEAH. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ? OK. WELL, I THINK WE'RE LOOKING FOR ONE MORE MOTION ON THE INTERCOM PAGING SYSTEM.

I RECOMMEND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVE THE GB MANCHESTER CONTRACT THROUGH THE INTERCOM PAGING SYSTEM AND AMBOY MIDDLE SCHOOL GLENWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY LOWER AND MIDDLE SCHOOL AND PLEASANT VALLEY CAMPUS.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH. BEEN MOVED TO APPROVE THE INTERCOM PAGING SYSTEMS UPGRADE FOR THE FOUR SCHOOLS MENTIONED, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR SIGNIFY BY SAYING AYE, AYE.

ALL THOSE OPPOSED, MOTION PASSES FIVE TO ZERO.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. MCDANIEL. GREAT.

AND FOR OUR AUDIENCE MEMBERS, THAT STAYED THE WHOLE TIME.

THAT'S GREAT, THANK YOU. NOW YOU SEE HOW THE REGULAR JUST GENERAL BUSINESS OF THE DISTRICT GOES ON FROM WHAT IT TAKES TO KEEP ALL THAT GOING FOR 12,000 STUDENTS.

YEAH, OK.

[11. Future Agenda Items and Board Events]

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS. ANYTHING FROM YOU, SUPERINTENDENT WATERS? NOTHING ON MY END. OK, I KNOW WE GOT [INAUDIBLE] STARTING TOMORROW GOING INTO FRIDAY, SO MAKE SURE YOU GOT THAT ALARM SET FOR THOSE AND ANYONE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THOSE I THINK WE REMEMBER A LITTLE BIT THERE, TYPICALLY MORNING TILL NOON FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.

YEAH, OK. OK.

OK, NEXT UP FOR OUR AGENDA IS AN EXECUTIVE SESSION EXECUTIVE SESSION IS GOING TO BE ON

[12. Executive Session]

PERSONNEL ISSUES.

IT'S UNDER RCW 42.30.110.

NO ACTION TAKEN.

ANY ONE WANT TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATED TIME? I'D SAY APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES, APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES.

SO I SHOW SO WE COULD TAKE MAYBE A FIVE MINUTE RECESS, RECONVENE AT 8:00 O'CLOCK.

8:00 O'CLOCK. YEAH, YEAH.

SO WE WILL START THE EXECUTIVE SESSION AT 8:00 O'CLOCK AND WE WILL RETURN TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AT 8:40.

AND THEN CAN I BE EXCUSED? YOU MAY BE EXCUSED.

THANK YOU FOR ASKING SO NICELY.

YEAH. CHICKEN DANCE.

OKAY, I CAN HEAR MYSELF. GOOD IT IS 8:55 WE ARE NOW ADJOURNING THIS FEBRUARY 28TH, 2022 BATTLE GROUND SCHOOL BOARD MEETING.

THANK YOU. THANKS, MARK.
