SOMETIMES WE HIDE THEM IN THE TEACHING AND LEARNING REPORT OR THE SUPERINTENDENTS REPORT, AND IT'S GOOD TO HAVE THEM UP FRONT AND THAT WAY TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE TIME COMMITMENT THAT IT TAKES FOR SOME OF THESE INDIVIDUALS TO COME, GET TO DO TWO RECOGNITIONS TODAY.

AND I GET TO START WITH A RECOGNITION FOR OUR POETRY OUT LOUD.

AND THIS IS A MULTI TIERED RECOGNITION AND ONE I CERTAINLY WANT TO RECOGNIZE THE PROGRAM.

THE PROGRAM NOW HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR, I WANT TO SAY, 13, 12, 13, 14 YEARS.

13, YEAH, THE PROGRAM ITSELF HAS BEEN GOING ON FROM 13 FOR 13 YEARS AND I'VE BEEN HONORED TO GET A CHANCE TO JUDGE THE PROGRAM FOR EVERY YEAR THAT IT'S BEEN AROUND.

SO I LOVED WHEN I WAS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT BATTLEGROUND AND THEN THE SPECIAL ED DIRECTOR AND THEN THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, THE DEPUTY SUPERINTENDENT AND NOW A

SUPERINTENDENT. SO IT CERTAINLY IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE DAYS THAT I LOOK FORWARD TO ALL YEAR LONG. THE SECOND IS TO RECOGNIZE THE WORK OF THE FOUNDER AND THE PERSON WHO PUTS IT ON AND PUTS IN SUCH A GREAT DEAL OF TIME AND WORK AND COMMITMENT TO KIDS AND TO THE PROGRAM. AND THAT'S OUR WONDERFUL MS. HEATHER SMITH LINE, WHO'S OUR ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS TEACHER AT BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL.

AND THEN THE THIRD, WHICH WERE, YOU KNOW, WHICH IS PART OF OUR PRESENTATION TODAY IS TO CELEBRATE THE WINNERS OF THIS YEAR'S COMPETITION.

WE HAVE TWO PLACEHOLDERS WHO ARE GOING TO PRESENT TO US TONIGHT.

ONE IS OLIVIA PATTERSON AND THE OTHER IS OUR WINNER, TOP PRIZE WINNER ELLA HANCOCK, AND THEY'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU A TASTE OF THEIR THE POEMS THAT THEY PRESENTED AND SHOW YOU HOW GREAT OF A COMPETITION THIS REALLY IS.

AND ELLA WILL BE REPRESENTING US AT THE REGIONAL COMPETITION, WHICH IS VIRTUAL THIS YEAR.

SO SHE'S SENDING IN HER VIDEO BY WEDNESDAY.

ALL RIGHT. SO I THINK WHAT SHE'S RECITING TODAY IS HER SECOND POEM, SO IT'S THE FIRST TIME, WHICH IS EXCITING.

IN A CITY LIKE THAT, ONE MIGHT SAIL THROUGH LIFE LED BY A RUNAWAY HAT.

THE YOUNG SCATTERED IN WHATEVER DIRECTIONS THEIR WILD HAIR POINTED AND GUSTING INTO ONE ANOTHER, FELL IN LOVE AT NIGHT WIND RIPPLED, SAXOPHONES HUNG LIKE WIND CHIMES AND PUNCH UP WINDOWS HOOTING THROUGH [INAUDIBLE] SO THAT THE STREETS SEEMED HAUNTED NOT BY NIGHTHAWKS, BUT BY DOVES.

PINWHEELS, WORLD FROM STEEPLES AND PLACE OF CROSSES, AT THE PINNACLES OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS SNAGGED UNDER CLOTHES, THE ONLY FLAG FLAPPED MAJESTICALLY, AND WHEN IT CAME TIME TO DISAPPEAR, ONE SIMPLY CHOSE A THOROUGHFARE DEVOID OF MEMORIES, RAISED A COLOR AND TURNED HIS BACK ON THE WIND.

I CLOSED MY EYES AND STEPPED INTO A SWIRL OF SCUTTLING LEAVES.

[LAUGHTER] THAT WAS WONDERFUL.

THE FAIR SINGER BY ANDREW [INAUDIBLE], TO MAKE THE FINAL CONQUEST OF ALL OF ME LOVE TO COMPOSE SO SWEET AND ENEMY AND WHO BOTH BEAUTIES TO MY DEATH AGREE.

JOINING THEMSELVES AND FAITHFUL HARMONY THAT, WELL, SHE WITH HER EYES.

SHE WON THIS AWARD IN NOVEMBER AT THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL EDUCATORS CONFERENCE, AND WE ARE JUST NOW GETTING TO A PLACE WHERE WE COULD INVITE HER TO COME UP SO I'D LIKE HER. SHE AND CINDY ARNOLD OUR CTE DIRECTOR TO COME UP AND TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THIS, AND I'LL LET CINDY INTRODUCE ANNETTE TO YOU.

OK. HELLO, BATTLEGROUND SCHOOL, BOARD, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HONORING ONE OF OUR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS TONIGHT, AND ANNETTE [INAUDIBLE] IS A PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL HORTICULTURE AGRICULTURE TEACHER.

SHE ACTUALLY TEACHES PLANT SCIENCE, ANIMAL SCIENCE, NATURAL RESOURCES, GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT, SEVERAL COURSES THERE, AND SHE WAS RECOGNIZED IN NOVEMBER AS MS. [INAUDIBLE] 2021 AS THE REGION ONE IDEA'S UNLIMITED AWARD AT THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION, THE NAAE CONFERENCE MS. [INAUDIBLE] EARNED THE AWARD FOR HER WORK IN WATER BEADS, WHICH YOU ALL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A SAMPLING OF THAT.

THESE TINY BEADS GROW TO MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY TIMES THEIR ORIGINAL VOLUME WHEN SOAKED IN WATER.

MS. [INAUDIBLE] FIRST, USE THE BEADS TO HOLD FLOWERS ARRANGED IN A VASE, AND IT'S NOW USED IS NOW USING THE BEADS TO TEACH EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS AROUND TOPICS, INCLUDING THE EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE AND PH, BACTERIAL GROWTH, SUNLIGHT, UV RAYS AND ARRANGE FLOWER FRESHNESS.

AND SO PLEASE HELP ME HONORING IN THAT WEEKS FOR HER GOOD WORK AND THIS 2021 REGION ONE IDEAS UNLIMITED AND AAE AWARD FOR THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION.

WE'RE ABLE TO HAVE THE WOMAN FROM THE CLARK COUNTY LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS TO COME IN AND TO HELP STUDENTS PRE-REGISTER IF THEY HAD NOT ALREADY DONE SO.

AND TO TEACH THEM ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF VOTING, OUR [INAUDIBLE] IS ONE TO HELP TO CREATE A SKATING, ALL SCHOOL ICE SKATING EVENT.

HOWEVER, DETAILS ARE STILL BEING WORKED OUT.

WE STILL NEED TO TALK WITH OUR TAP TEAM TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PLAN, BUT WE WILL MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT AS SOON AS WE COME UP WITH OUR PLAN.

THAT'S EACH ATHLETE GETS TESTED THREE TIMES UNLESS THEY'VE TESTED POSITIVE WITHIN THE LAST 90 DAYS, AND THEN THEY ARE EXEMPT FROM TESTING AND DISTRICT WIDE WE HAVE ABOUT 80 STUDENTS WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM TESTING, BECAUSE THEY'VE ALREADY TESTED POSITIVE AND RECOVERED.

AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL ARE USING APPROXIMATELY 400 RAPID TESTS A WEEK.

LAST WEEK, ON TUESDAY, WE DIDN'T HAVE SCHOOL ON MONDAY.

AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT DOCUMENT, IT SHOWS WHAT THE PILLARS OF TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN, BUT ESSENTIALLY WHAT IT IS IT'S KINDERGARTEN FOR FOUR YEAR OLDS, AND SO WE ARE PLANNING IT FOUR OF OUR PRIMARY SCHOOLS NEXT YEAR TO OFFER KINDERGARTEN TO FOUR YEAR OLDS.

THE STATE HEALTH CARE AND DSHS HAVE DETERMINED THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BUILD A MENTAL HEALTH JAIL, A 48 BED LOCKED DOWN FACILITY FOR MENTALLY UNSTABLE PEOPLE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ON 50TH AVENUE, A FEW BLOCKS FROM PLEASANT VALLEY PRIMARY.

IT'S STILL PUZZLING FOR US WHO HAVE FOLLOWED THIS PROCESS TO UNDERSTAND HOW A SITE LIKE THIS THAT MEETS NONE OF THE CRITERIA GETS PURCHASED BY THE STATE BEFORE IT'S EVEN SELECTED IN THE PROCESS.

WELL, THERE ARE AT LEAST FOUR OTHER SUITABLE SITES THAT MEET MOST OF THE CRITERIA LISTED BY DSHS.

BUT NONETHELESS, DSHS SEEMS TO BE PUSHING FORWARD.

IT'S CLEAR TO US AND OBVIOUSLY TO YOU FROM THE LETTER THAT YOU WROTE THAT THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD AND A SAFETY SITUATION IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, ESPECIALLY RIGHT THERE BY THE SCHOOL. DSHS HAS A SAD, UNFORTUNATELY AND GRISLY HISTORY OF SAFETY MANAGING THESE TYPES OF FACILITIES.

IT IS A FACT THAT PEOPLE ESCAPE FROM THESE FACILITIES AND HAVE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION AND DO HORRIBLE THINGS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD.

JUST LOOK UP A FEW OF THEM.

ONE, EARL SHRINER IS AN EXAMPLE.

SO WHAT WE ASK FOR YOU TO DO IS THAT THE LETTER AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH, SUPERINTENDENT IS VERY WELL RESEARCHED LETTER.

WE'RE ASKING YOU TO COME TO THE NEXT LEVEL RATHER THAN JUST THE LETTER TO STAFF AT THE COUNTY. WE HAVE A FOUR YEAR OLD AT GARDNER SCHOOL JUST UP THE WAY HEADED TOWARDS PLEASANT VALLEY AS WELL. SO THIS DSHS FACILITY THAT IS FOR THE MENTALLY ILL AND QUITE LITERALLY THE CRIMINALLY INSANE JUST UP THE ROAD FROM OUR HOUSE AND SCHOOLS.

DSHS HAS HAS CHANGED THEIR STORY MANY TIMES ON THIS NUMEROUS TIMES, REALLY, WHEN THEY SPEAK TO THE PUBLIC ON WHAT THEY WHAT THIS WILL BE COMPRISED OF AND WHAT ITS TRUE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE IS.

ONE CONSTANT, HOWEVER, IS THAT THEY PLAN FOR THIS TO BE A COURT ORDERED LOCK UP FACILITY FOR THE MENTALLY UNSTABLE PEOPLE WHO POSE AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO THEMSELVES AND OTHER PEOPLE. THEIR MOST RECENT CLAIM IS THAT THERE WILL NO LONGER THEY NO LONGER PLAN TO HAVE GUARDS OR A RAZOR WIRE FENCE ON THIS PROPERTY.

THEY WILL NOW HAVE A HIGH FENCE THAT THEY CLAIM IS UNCONSCIONABLE.

I THINK IT'S OBVIOUS THAT ONE OF YOUR GUYS IS MAIN PRIORITIES IS THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN, OUR STAFF AND OUR FAMILIES, MAINLY BECAUSE IT SHOWS AND THANK YOU.
