[1. Call to Order]
[00:00:03]
OK, I LIKE THIS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2021 SPECIAL WORK SESSION ON FACILITIES TO ORDER, IT'S 5:03.
THANK YOU FOR THE STAFF THAT'S COMING HERE TONIGHT TO HELP US GET UP TO DATE ON THAT.
THANKS, SANDY, FOR PROVIDING FOOD.
BOARD MEMBERS MIGHT BE EATING DURING THE PRESENTATION AND WE'VE NEVER BEEN FILMED AND EAT AT THE SAME TIME BEFORE, SO WE'LL SEE HOW THAT TURNS OUT.
SOUND ISSUES CONTINUE, BUT SEEM TO BE GETTING BETTER.
AND WITH THAT, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO SUPERINTENDENT WATERS AND.
[2. Work Session]
OUR FACILITIES DIRECTOR MR. JOLMA.THANK YOU, BOARD. THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US ONCE A YEAR TO COME TO THE BOARD, AND KEVIN TYPICALLY GIVES AN OVERVIEW OF THE WORK THAT HE'S BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THIS PAST YEAR, ESPECIALLY OVER THE SUMMER.
AND THE WORK THIS YEAR ESPECIALLY HAS BEEN SIGNIFICANT.
SO I'M EXCITED TO HAVE KEVIN SHARE WITH YOU ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE STAFF THAT'S HERE, WHICH I THINK IS GREAT TO SEE.
JOSH AND JOHN AND KIM HERE AS WELL TO SHARE WITH YOU THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT THEY'VE DONE AND BUT THEN ALSO THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT WHAT MIGHT POTENTIALLY BE IN THE PIPELINE FOR US.
AND THIS YEAR, AS YOU KNOW, IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT BECAUSE OF THE CONCERNS WE HAVE WITH THE UPCOMING LEVY WITH IT, THE POTENTIAL OF IT PASSING, BUT MORE SO THE POTENTIAL OF IT NOT PASSING AND WHAT THAT MEANS TO US AS A DISTRICT.
SO KEVIN IS GOING TO TOUCH A LITTLE BIT ON THAT.
AND THEN ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO HAVE KIND OF HANGING OUT THERE FOR US IS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IN TERMS OF OUR PROCESS WITH CAM AND FINDING A NEW HOME FOR CAM.
AND SO KEVIN'S GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT AS WELL.
SO WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO MR. KEVIN JOLMA, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS.
SO, YEAH, I APPRECIATE DOING THIS EVERY YEAR WITH YOU FOLKS SHOW YOU VISUALLY GET SOME IDEA OF THE PROJECTS WE DID OVER THE SUMMER AND THIS SUMMER WAS BY FAR OUR BUSIEST SUMMER EVER, DOING IT IN ACCORDING WITH LEVY DOLLARS.
OF COURSE, IT WAS A LOT MORE WHEN WE WERE BUILDING SCHOOLS AND AND SOME OF THE TIMES WITH IMPACT FEES WHERE WE'RE PUTTING IN THREE MODELERS WE CAN GET INTO THE TENS OF MILLIONS.
BUT AS FAR AS I CALL SMALL WORKS PROJECTS THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND AND UNDER, THIS WAS BY FAR OUR BUSIEST SUMMER AND I APPRECIATE THAT FOR THE LEVY INCREASE A FEW YEARS AGO, THAT ALLOWED US TO DO THIS.
SO FIRST THING I'D LIKE TO DO BEFORE I GET GOING WITH POWERPOINT IS TO INTRODUCE SOME FOLKS WHO WHO MAKE THIS ALL HAPPEN DURING THE SUMMER.
PUT A PUT A FACE TO THEIR NAMES.
I'LL START WITH SENIORITY AT THE DISTRICT.
ACTUALLY, THAT'S JOSH, ISN'T IT? IT'S NOT JOHN. ALL RIGHT, WELL, WE'LL START WITH KIM, MS. KIM FALEY OUR CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR WHO HAS BEEN SO IMPORTANT AND KEY TO OUR COVID SET SET UPS AND SPACINGS, WORKING WITH THE CUSTODIANS AND ONSITE PERSONNEL, THAT HAS BEEN A HUGE PART OF HER JOB.
BUT ALL OF THESE FOLKS, DURING THE SUMMER, THEY KNOW THAT THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE DOUBLE DUTY. THEY'RE GOING TO HELP WITH THE PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE.
JOSH FOCUSES ALMOST STRICTLY ON THOSE SUMMER PROJECTS THAT ARE GOING TO HAPPEN.
KIM'S MORE INVOLVED WITH THE CUSTODIAL NOW, BUT THERE'S A LOT OF COORDINATION TO THAT WITH JUST IMAGINE WE WANT TO RE-CARPET THIS ROOM.
WELL, ALL THIS FURNITURE HAS TO GO OUT.
ALL THOSE FURNITURE AND BOXES HAVE TO COME IN BACK IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS. WE HAD WE PUT IN A MAJOR AMOUNT OF CARPET THIS YEAR, ACRES IN BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL, PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, MAPLE GROVE K-4 AND CAPTAIN STRONG, WE RE-CARPETED FOUR SCHOOLS IN ESSENCE.
JUST AS AN AVERAGE OF I WOULD SAY, NEARLY 100 CLASSROOMS WERE PROBABLY AFFECTED, TEACHERS' BELONGINGS PACKING THEM UP, PUTTING THEM AWAY UNTIL WE COULD DO IT AND THEN GETTING THEM BACK IN IN THE RIGHT SPOT.
AND THAT TAKES A LOT OF COORDINATION WITH CUSTODIAL AND OUR OPERATIONS STAFF TO TO KNOW, HEY, WHAT WHAT CLASSROOMS ARE YOU GOING TO BE IN? YOU KNOW, WE DON'T EMPTY THE WHOLE SCHOOL OUT AT ONE TIME.
WE WORK ON IT IN SECTIONS, SO IT TAKES A LOT OF COORDINATION TO.
[00:05:02]
GET THE RIGHT AREA CLEANED UP FOR OUR CONTRACT, THE CONTRACTOR DO HIS WORK AND THEN OUR FOLKS TO GET THEIR BELONGINGS BACK IN AND ET CETERA, ET CETERA, IT'S A LOT OF COORDINATION. SO THESE THREE EVERY SUMMER HELPED ME TREMENDOUSLY, AND I JUST WANTED TO BRING THEM HERE AND INTRODUCE THEM AND LET THEM TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEIR THEIR HISTORY HERE AT BATTLEGROUND.THE FOUR OF US REPRESENT A LOT OF YEARS OF BATTLEGROUND BATTLEGROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT WE'RE ALL LIFERS.
LET'S START WITH YOU, KIM, IF YOU COULD CHAT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND WITH THE DISTRICT AND THE MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT.
OK. CAN YOU HEAR ME? I STARTED.
WHEN I WAS 16 AS A STUDENT HELPER IN THE OPERATIONS OFFICE, AND THEN I GRADUATED IN 94 AND THERE WAS A JOB THAT OPENED IN JULY WHEN I GRADUATED AND I GOT HIRED IN THE OFFICE AND I'VE BEEN THERE SINCE STARTING MY 28TH YEAR, SO I'VE GONE FROM ASSISTANT SECRETARY TO SECRETARY, OPERATIONS SPECIALIST AND NOW I'M ON TO CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR.
DISTRICT. I HIRED HIM ORIGINALLY AS OUR CAPITAL PROJECTS MANAGER TO COME HELP WITH THE BUILDING OF THE SEVEN NEW SCHOOLS FROM THE 2005 BOND.
JOHN AND I WERE THE FOCUS ON THAT.
THEN AFTER THAT HAPPENED, THEN AFTER THAT, WE WE MOVED HIM INTO CUSTODIAL SUPERVISOR FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS AND THEN AGAIN, WITH THE ONSET OF HAVING SOME CAPITAL PROJECT MONEY, HE TOOK ON THAT ROLE OF CAPITAL PROJECTS MANAGER FOR THE LAST THREE, TWO AND A HALF YEARS OR SO. JOHN'S HISTORY GOES BACK A WAYS.
JOHN MORRIS, OUR MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR NOW.
ORIGINALLY, KEVIN SAID HE DIDN'T MENTION THE FOR I STARTED OFF IN 1994.
SAME YEAR AS KIM, BUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AFTER HER AS A CUSTODIAN WITH THE DISTRICT, WITH THE IDEA OF WORKING MY WAY UP, I'D BEEN IN THE IN THE CONSTRUCTION WORLD, THEN BEEN A CONTRACTOR FOR A WHILE, BUT I WANTED WANTED TO GET INTO MAINTENANCE AND THAT SIDE OF THINGS. AND SO I BUT I STARTED OFF AS A CUSTODIAN AND WORKED MY WAY UP.
THEN I DID GO TO HAWKINSON SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR A FEW YEARS BECAUSE THERE WAS AN OPPORTUNITY OVER THERE.
I WAS INVOLVED WITH THE NEW CONSTRUCTION WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL AND SOME REMODELING OF THE BUILDINGS OVER THERE IN THE EARLY 2000S.
THEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME BACK AND WORK WITH KEVIN, WHICH WAS WHICH HAS BEEN GREAT. MY MOM AND MY DAD WERE BOTH TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT.
MY DAD OR HE RETIRED BACK IN 1980, BUT HE'S HE'S STILL ALIVE.
HE LIVES DOWN HERE IN MALLORY LANDING.
HE'S 98 YEARS OLD, BUT STILL DOING GREAT.
AND IT'S BEEN REALLY, REALLY GOOD WORKING HERE.
AND MY FAMILY IS OBVIOUSLY HAVE A LOT OF FAMILY AROUND IT, HAVE JUST GONE TO THE SCHOOL TOO SO. THANK YOU.
AND JOHN WAS THE MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR AT HAWKINSON RIGHT BEFORE I HIRED HIM AWAY.
NEXT IS JOSH JOINER, OUR FACILITIES MANAGER.
HE'S THE ARCHITECT OF THE GROUP.
HE HE TAKES MY CRUDE SKETCHES AND MAKES THEM PRETTY, AND THEN WE MAKE THESE THINGS HAPPEN. JOSH IS AN ARCHITECT FROM GRADUATE, GRADUATED FROM SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
THANKS, KEVIN. LIKE YOU SAID, I'M JOSH JOINER, I'M THE FACILITIES MANAGER FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. I'VE BEEN IN MY CURRENT POSITION FOR 16 YEARS.
HOWEVER, THINKING BACK, JOHN AND KIM BOTH STARTED IN 1994, SO I GUESS I HAVE TO I HAVE TO EQUAL THAT MY FIRST OFFICIAL EMPLOYMENT WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT, I BELIEVE, WAS IN 1994 AS A SUBSTITUTE CUSTODIAN AND SECURITY WHILE THE HIGH SCHOOL RENOVATIONS WERE GOING ON, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN THE YEAR AFTER I GRADUATED.
BUT IN A CURRENT POSITION SINCE 2005.
I COME FROM A LONG LINE OF BATTLEGROUND FAMILY MEMBERS.
MY GRANDPARENTS ON MY MOM'S SIDE GRADUATED BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL IN 1951 AND 1953.
MY PARENTS GRADUATED BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL IN 1970 AND 1972.
ALL THREE OF THEM GRADUATED BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL.
[00:10:02]
MY DAD HAS SEVEN SIBLINGS.ALL EIGHT OF THEM GRADUATED FROM BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 60S AND 70S.
I KNOW THAT BOTH OF MY GRANDMOTHERS WERE PROBABLY TEACHING AT THE SAME TIME HERE AT LEWISVILLE IN THE LATE SIXTIES OR EARLY SEVENTIES.
ONE IS A TEACHER AND ONE IS A BEA.
SO MY GRANDMOTHER ON MY MOTHER'S SIDE IS ZELDA SUTTON, IF ANY OF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH HER, NOW SHE STARTED OUT DRIVING SCHOOL BUS FOR BATTLEGROUND SCHOOL DISTRICT, PUT HERSELF THROUGH SCHOOL TOGETHER TEACHING DEGREE, CAME BACK AS A MATH TEACHER AND THEN MOVED ON THROUGH THE RANKS TO ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.
PRINCIPAL AT LEWISVILLE, PRINCIPAL AT AMBOY, PRINCIPAL AT BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL, PRINCIPAL AT PRAIRIE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEN GRADUATED OUT OF THE DISTRICT OR GRADUATED EVERY TIME, RETIRED AFTER A FULL CAREER OUT OF THE OUT OF THE DISTRICT OFFICE.
AND JOSH'S AUNT IS VIVIAN, MY SECRETARY, THE ONE PERSON WE ACTUALLY SHOULD HAVE HER WHO DOES EVERYTHING FOR US WITH US.
ALL RIGHT. LET'S MOVE INTO THE STARTING THE PRESENTATION.
AMBOY, JOSH WENT TO SCHOOL HERE.
IT WAS IN DECENT SHAPE, BUT IT WAS A REALLY OLD GYM FLOOR.
IT HAD BEEN BUILT IN TWO PHASES, SO ONE HALF WAS SLIGHTLY DARKER THAN THE OTHER.
AND WE ENDED UP PUTTING IN A FLOATING FLOOR SYSTEM, WHICH JUST AS AS A FORMER BASKETBALL PLAYER, IT PLAYS, DRIBBLES, RUNS ON REALLY WELL.
WE CUSTOMIZE THE CENTER OF THE GYM WITH THE EAGLES LOGO.
YOU JUST SEE A PICTURE OF THE NEW COURTS WITH THE THREE POINT LINES, THE RED INLAYS ON THE KEYS. AND THEN WE ALSO INSTALLED A NEW DIVIDER CURTAIN, A RED AND BLACK THAT MATCHES OUR COLORS AND THEIR STRIPES IN THE GYM.
WHAT ELSE DO WE DO JOSH? I HAD ONE OF A LOT OF PAINTING.
THANK YOU. I FORGOT THE PAINTING.
SO BEFORE ALL OF THAT HAPPENED, WE PAINTED THE GYM ACTUALLY, BEFORE ALL OF THAT HAPPENED.
WE REPLACED THE ROOF LAST YEAR.
WE GOT IT DRY. WE GOT IT PAINTED AND THAT REALLY PROUD OF THAT.
THESE ARE THE SCIENCE ROOM WINGS, WHICH THEY WERE ON THEIR SECOND, THIRD OR FOURTH COAT OF EPOXY.
THIS PICTURE IS KIND OF TELLING.
OH, I REMEMBERED, I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TOUCH THAT.
YOU CAN SEE THE STATUS OF THAT IT HAD.
I DON'T THINK IT HAD EVER BEEN PROPERLY PREPARED.
JUST MORE COATS ON MORE COATS, ON MORE COATS.
WE DECIDED TO TAKE IT A LITTLE DIFFERENT APPROACH.
WE GROUND IT ALL OFF AND DID POLISHED CONCRETE.
I MYSELF LOVE THE LOOK OF THAT IN SCIENCE ROOMS. IF BY CHANCE, WE NEED TO PUT A FLOORING OVER IT IN THE FUTURE, WE CAN, BUT THIS IS PERFECTLY FUNCTIONAL, KIND OF LIKE THE PEARL DISTRICT INDUSTRIAL POLISHED, REALLY EASY FOR THE CUSTODIANS TO CLEAN ANY FEEDBACK ON THAT YET CAME FROM CUSTODIANS ON CLEANING THE FLOORS SO YOU CAN SEE THE MASSIVE MACHINE THAT THEY USE TO GRIND IT ALL OFF.
BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL, WE WERE SCHEDULED TO PUT IN 2.2 ACRES.
WE RAN INTO THIS NASTY LITTLE SUBSTANCE CALLED ASBESTOS TILE DURING THE REMODEL.
THEY HAD RAN IT. THEY HAD DECIDED TO JUST COVER IT UP AND PUT CARPET OVER IT.
I SUSPECT IT WAS A DEDUCTIVE CHANGE ORDER DURING THAT PROJECT.
THEY HAD SO MANY MILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF CHANGE ORDERS.
I SUSPECT THE CONTRACTOR SAID, HEY, IF YOU WANT TO LEAVE THIS, I CAN SAVE YOU SOME MONEY.
THAT'S MY GUESS. BUT AS A RULE, NONE OF US HAVE LEFT A PIECE OF ASBESTOS ONCE WE FOUND IT, SO WE WEREN'T ABLE TO GET THE WHOLE SCHOOL DONE.
BUT WE WILL. JOSH, ARE WE THINKING SPRING BREAK, CHRISTMAS AND SPRING BREAK GETTING IN THERE AT ALL? JUST CHRISTMAS.
SO YEAH, SO WE'LL WAIT UNTIL NEXT SUMMER.
WE DIDN'T GET THE ADMIN AREA DONE OR THE ANOTHER.
ANOTHER TWO WINGS, BUT WE'LL GET IT.
YOU CAN TELL WHEN I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF FURNITURE THAT COMES IN AND OUT.
YOU KNOW, THIS WAS A TYPICAL HALLWAY, IN BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL ALL THROUGHOUT.
SO IT WAS A LOT OF COORDINATION AND THEN
[00:15:02]
I NEED TO REPLACE IT. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE NINETY FOUR REMODEL.SO IT WAS RIGHT AT 30, IT WAS 30 YEARS OLD, RIGHT AT 30, 30 OUT OF THIS STUFF.
THIS IS THIS IS ALL GREAT CARPET.
SO THIS IS THE HALLWAY CARPET YOU CAN SEE IS OLDER AND WORN.
OUR GOAL IS TO PUT VCT TILE IN ALL THE HALLWAYS FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATION.
DO YOU LIKE THIS PICTURE? IT IS SO AWESOME.
I BELIEVE IT WAS JACKIE'S REQUEST LAST YEAR TO EXPEDITE THIS PROJECT, WE MOVED IT UP A FEW YEARS. I CAN'T I DON'T KNOW WHY THOSE ARE THE SAME BLEACHERS.
I HAD MY SENIOR PICTURE TAKEN IN AND THEY WERE OLD THEN.
THEY'RE JUST THEY'RE JUST GORGEOUS.
FIVE HUNDRED AND FORTY FOUR OCCUPANCY, ALL ADA ACCESSIBLE.
REALLY HAPPY WITH THIS PROJECT AS WELL.
AND IN THE SAME MODE AT THE DISTRICT STADIUM, THOSE WERE PROBABLY ORIGINAL PLANKS AND STEPS THAT WERE PUT IN, AND IT WAS.
THE STADIUM WAS BORN THE SAME YEAR I WAS.
THESE WERE 57 YEAR OLD SEATS AND BENCHES, AND THERE WERE NO RAILINGS.
SO SO WE TORE IT ALL OUT, REPLACED IT ALL WITH STATE OF THE ART BLEACHER SYSTEMS FROM [INAUDIBLE]. THESE ARE GOING TO SERVE WELL.
WE ADDED THE RAILINGS TO GO UP AND BE MUCH SAFER FOR FOLKS AND REPLACED ALL THE STAIRS THAT WERE CRUMBLING.
A LITTLE BIT OF CRUMBLING CONCRETE, ALL WITH THESE METAL STEPS.
BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL SHOP FLOOR AGAIN, THIS WAS A 1994 PROJECT, AND THEY HAD THE FLOORS HAD THE FLOORS HAD DETERIORATED AND THE OILS FROM THE OILS FROM THE VEHICLES AND MOTORS, IT STARTED TO STAY IN THE CONCRETE.
WE GROUND WE WE HAD THE GUYS COME OVER.
WE'RE DONE WITH THE SCIENCE ROOM AT BATTLEGROUND HIGH SCHOOL THAT CAME OVER TO THE AUTO SHOP, GROUND THAT ALL THAT EPOXY FLOOR OFF, DID A TREATMENT WHERE THEY TELL ME IT SUCKED UP AS MUCH OILS AS THEY COULD HAVE TO GET IT UP.
WE GOT RID OF THOSE AND THEN WE DID A BEAUTIFUL COATING THERE.
THESE ARE JUST SOME RANDOM PHOTOS I GOT.
IT'S KIND OF NEAT THE GUY IN THE MIDDLE.
IT'S A LITTLE TRACTOR. HE RIDES AND IT PLOWS UP THE PLOWS UP THE CARPET TO REMOVE IT.
IT JUST ROLLS IT UP LIKE A BALE.
AS WELL AS THAT MIDDLE, WE HAD SOME BROWNS, WE HAD SOME [INAUDIBLE] MAUVE.
I MIGHT GO WITH MAUVE AND ON THE RIGHT IS WHAT WE ENDED UP WITH OUR DISTRICT STANDARD ON THE ON THE CARPET AND THEN A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE VCT AREAS IN FRONT OF ALL OUR SINKS.
SO WE DID THE ENTIRETY OF CAPTAIN STRONG OTHER THAN THE 10 WING THAT WE ADDED ON IN 2007.
SO THE REST OF THE SCHOOL A FEW SUMMERS AGO, WE DID ALL THE HALLWAYS IN TILE AND WE DID ALL THE CLASSROOMS THIS SUMMER.
CHIEF AND CAPTAIN BUS LANE REPAIRS, ME AND JOHN GET A LITTLE SLAP IN THE HAND.
OUR CONTRACTOR WASN'T DIDN'T PREPARE US THE BEST ON OUR DRIVE LANE, SO THE DRIVE LANES ARE NOT. THIS IS THE SMALL PARKING LOT BETWEEN CAPTAIN AND CHIEF.
THE DRIVE LANES HAD JUST STARTED TO FAIL, SO WE DECIDED OFF THEY GO.
WE'RE GOING TO. WE'RE GOING TO TAKE.
WE'RE GOING TO REPLACE THOSE DRIVE LANES AND WENT UP TO [INAUDIBLE] TO GIVE YOU A PICTURE OF WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW ON THE RIGHT.
WE ADDED 17 TOTAL STALLS AND FIVE VISITOR STALLS RIGHT UP FRONT.
WE DID A REAL GOOD CHIP SEAL PRODUCT ON ALL THE DRIVE LANES, THE PARKING LOT WHERE THE CAR'S PARK. IT'S NOT AS WELL, NOT AS WELL DONE.
IT'S A LESSER PRODUCT, BUT WHERE THE DRIVING OCCURS.
GOT RID OF THE THREE OF THE REMAINING FIVE DEAD TREES, AND WE HAVE PLANTED THEM WITH REPLACEMENTS. ALSO AT LAURIN, JOHN HAD A PROJECT WHERE HE.
WE HAD WE HAD A ROOF LEAK AND SOME ROT IN THE WALLS, SO WE TORE IT ALL OFF, GOT RID OF ALL THE THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF MOLD, WE GOT RID OF ALL OF THAT, REMEDIATED IT AND WE'VE TURNED IT INTO A WEIGHT ROOM AND A STORAGE AREA FOR THEM.
SO JOSH PROVIDED THE MATS AND AND JOHN, JOHN OVERSAW THE PROJECT.
[00:20:03]
ON THE RIGHT IS JUST AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE FENCING THAT JOHN DID OVER THE SUMMER.I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY THOUSANDS OF FEET OF FENCE YOU PUT IN THIS SUMMER, BUT NEARLY 5000 AT THIS CAMPUS ALONE.
IF YOU WALK OUT THERE, IT LOOKS PRETTY NEAT THE BLACK VINYL.
SO THAT'S JUST A PICTURE OF THE UPGRADED FENCING.
AT K -4, MAPLE GROVE, YOU KNOW, THAT USED TO BE A 5-8 SCHOOL.
AND WE'VE SINCE THEN TURNED IT INTO A K-4 SCHOOL, WHICH MEANS KINDERGARTNERS AND THEY DON'T LIKE THEIR SINKS UP SO HIGH, SO WE ENDED UP LOWERING A BUNCH OF THOSE SINKS AS WELL AS REPLACING ALL THE CARPET IN EVERY CLASSROOM.
THIS THIS SUMMER AND EVERYTHING, BY THE WAY, EVERYTHING WAS DONE.
SO TEACHERS COULD GET BACK IN, I DIDN'T HEAR MANY COMPLAINTS, BUT MAYBE YOU GUYS ALL TOOK THEM FOR ME, BUT EVERYBODY WAS REALLY COOPERATIVE.
THIS IS A PICTURE OF THE LIBRARY WITH THE NEW WITH A NEW CARPET AND AGAIN, SO LIBRARIES GOT TO GET CLEANED UP. BOOKS GOT MOVED OFF SHELVES AND LABELED PUT BACK IN.
THIS IS OUR THIS IS OUR JEWEL.
PLEASANT VALLEY GYM RENOVATION, YOU'VE ALL YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THAT FLOOR LOOKED LIKE.
SO WELL, SO IT WAS A SECOND PRODUCT THAT THE FIRST PRODUCT WAS OK.
SECOND PRODUCT, THEY REDID THE YEAR BEFORE I GOT HERE.
AND AS JOSH, THE FOLKS SAID, THE FLOOR AS IT GETS OLDER, IT'LL ACTUALLY START TO REVERSE BACK TO A GEL LIQUID FORM INSTEAD OF A SOLID.
WE WE TORE IT UP, REMOVED EVERY BIT OF IT, WENT TO ARLINGTON, OREGON, AS HAZARDOUS MATERIAL, EVERY TRUCKLOAD.
THERE'S A TOUCH OF MERCURY, TOUCH OF MERCURY IN THE BASE OF THAT PRODUCT, WE'D MONITORED IT OVER THE YEARS, THERE HAD BEEN NO LEAKING, BUT THE STEPS THAT WE HAD TO TAKE TO.
JOSH WAS FOUR WEEKS OR SO GETTING A PERMIT TO DISPOSE OF IT.
SO WHAT WE'RE SEEING HERE ON THE THIS SIDE, THE BASKETS USED TO HANG OFF THESE TRUSSES WE HAD TO PUT IN. HOW LONG WERE THEY? WE HAD TO PUT IN 30 FOOT HIGH BEAMS, A SET OF TWO OF THEM EVERYWHERE, WHERE THERE'S GOING TO BE A NEW BASKET.
THEN WE HAD TO HANG THE BASKETS.
AND THEY'RE ALL BRAND NEW BASKETS THERE AT PLEASANT VALLEY.
THEN WE INSTALLED THAT CURTAIN.
WE GOT SUPER LUCKY. WE WERE ABLE TO USE ALL THE ALL THE HANGING EQUIPMENT THAT WAS THERE.
THEN WE REMOVED THAT FLOOR AND THEN WE PUT THE NEW FLOOR IN.
[INAUDIBLE] UP HERE IN THE UPPER RIGHT IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE, OVER HERE ON THE LEFT. JUST AWESOME SO THAT THAT FIELD HOUSE IS 15,000 FEET, WHICH IS TWICE AS BIG AS ANY OF OUR NORMAL GYMS. SO JOSH AND I REALLY TREATED THIS AS TWO GYMS INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON AN NBA SIZED CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE. SO WE ORIENTED IT TO HAVE THE CURTAIN DROPPED AND REALLY HAVE TWO FULLY FUNCTIONING GYMS AT THE SAME TIME.
SO WE RAN OUR FLOORING, PUT OUR LOGOS.
TWO GYMS WERE IN MIND, NOT NOT AN NBA OR A COLLEGE FACILITY.
COOL LOGO THAT WE GOT DOWN ON THE BOTH OF THE CENTER COURT AREAS.
AND THEN IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE BIG PROJECTS, REALLY.
THAT'S ANOTHER LITTLE PROJECT WE DID AS JOSH AND I WERE WALKING TO THAT PROJECT EVERY DAY WE GO, THIS LOOKS HORRIBLE.
THIS WAS A NEAT PROJECT WE DID, TOO.
WE REVIVED WITH THE CHANGING OF LIBRARIES IN THE MEDIA CENTERS.
WE TOOK WHAT WAS REALLY A CONVOLUTED MESS THAT WAS CREATED SOMETIME RIGHT INTO IT ALL AROUND HERE WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHELVES, DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMPUTERS, DIFFERENT TYPES OF AREA. AND IT REALLY HAS A CLOSED CLAUSTROPHOBIC LOOK TO THIS IS THE OLD CARPET.
SO WE ENDED UP TEARING ALL OF THAT OUT, IT DEPARTMENT REWIRED ALL OF THOSE.
WE BOUGHT TABLES THAT HAD THE CABLE TRAYS IN IT.
SO JUST IT TURNED OUT REALLY NICE.
THERE'S A LOT MORE OF A CAFÉ TYPE THING.
NOW YOU CAN SEE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE TWO SETUPS AND THEY HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF COMPUTERS. [INAUDIBLE] AND THEN, SO WE ALSO WRAPPED UP THE PRAIRIE HIGH, JOSH WRAPPED UP THE PRAIRIE HIGH PROJECTS, WE HAD THE LIBRARY, NO WE HAD A
[00:25:02]
COUNSELING OFFICE.WHAT ELSE? ANYWAY, SOME TO WRAP UP.
SO THE FOUR HUNDRED BUILDING IS THE ONE OUT CLOSEST TO THE STREET THERE.
UP IN THE FAR RIGHT IS WHAT THE HALLWAYS USED TO LOOK LIKE.
AND IF YOU GO LOOK RIGHT TO THE LEFT, THAT'S WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE NOW.
AND THEN THAT LOWER RIGHT IS THE ENTRYWAY WHERE WE JUST ADD A LITTLE BIT OF LIFE TO SOME SOME RANDOM TILES. THAT'S BEAUTIFUL.
SO THOSE ARE THE EXACT SAME POSITIONS THAT I'M STANDING THERE TO TAKE THAT PICTURE.
SO THAT'S WHAT IT USED TO LOOK LIKE.
THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW.
EASY TO MAINTAIN AND REALLY NICE.
WILL LAST FOREVER. PRAIRIE HIGH, JOSH HAD A COUPLE OF PROJECTS HERE WITH ROTC.
THEY WERE HAVING WELL, THEY ACTUALLY HAD THEIR STUFF STORED ON AN AREA IN THE RIGHT, AND THEY WANTED THE AREA ON THE RIGHT EXPANDED FOR STORING UNIFORMS. SO BOTH OF US DIDN'T AGREE WITH EACH OTHER, SO WE BUILT A CYCLONE FENCE WITH SLATTED MATERIAL. IT'S EIGHT FEET WIDE AND ALMOST 40 FEET LONG, JOSH THIRTY FIVE OR SOMEWHERE IN THERE. SO THEY JUST HAVE A TON OF STORAGE.
AND THEY CAN LEAVE THERE WHEN THEY DO THEIR SHOOTING, IT'LL BE IN FRONT OF THAT WALL.
THEY'LL PUT THE CURTAINS THERE.
SO EVERYBODY WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH THAT FOR JUST A LITTLE BIT OF FENCING.
AND THIS ROOM TO THE RIGHT WILL NOW JUST BE FULL.
WE DID A FENCE LIKE THAT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE TO TOUCH THE LIGHTING, THE AIR CONDITIONING OR THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM.
WE JUST PUT A CYCLONE FENCE UP.
WE'RE GOING TO, THERE'LL BE LOTS OF UNIFORMS STORED IN THERE WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE PROCESS OF MAKING A WALL, WHICH REALLY SERVES NO PURPOSE BECAUSE THAT'S IN THE HALLWAY ITSELF, YOU DON'T SEE THAT FROM ANYWHERE OTHER THAN WHEN YOU'RE IN A HALLWAY.
YACOLT, WE GOT THE PRIMARY COVERED PLAY AREA UP TOP.
THIS WAS JOSH, AND I WORKED ON THE COLOR SCHEMES AND ALL THAT AT THE START.
THE ROOF MATCHES THE EXISTING ONE PRETTY WELL.
WE'RE PAINTING THE EXISTING ONE RIGHT NOW AS WE WELL NOT IN THE RAIN, BUT WE'RE PAINTING IT TO MATCH.
SO THEY GOT A NICE NEW ASPHALT PLAY AREA WITH A BRICK WALL FOR BOUNCING BALLS OFF.
AND I JUST THINK THEY LOOK GREAT.
THAT'S THE INSIDE UNDER INSIDE OF THAT EXPOSED TONGUE AND GROOVE.
TUKES. SO DAYBREAK, WE PAINTED DAYBREAK.
YOU KNOW, THEY'RE NOW 2006, 15 YEARS OLD.
WE GOT A LONG TIME OUT OF THEM.
WE DID DAYBREAK LAST SUMMER AND WE DID TUKES SOME OF THIS.
THIS IS THE MIDDLE SCHOOL ENTRY AND THE WALKWAYS AND A PICTURE OF OUR PAINTERS DOING PREP AND PAINTING. WE HAVE TWO FULL TIME PAINTERS.
THEY'VE JUST BEEN A GREAT INVESTMENT.
ONE OF OUR BEST. AND A LITTLE BIT MORE FENCING AT TUKES, SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE WANTED TO DO IS SO YOU HAVE YOUR ONE, TWO AND 300 BUILDINGS THAT OUR PROTOTYPICAL.
WELL, ANYBODY COULD GO IN BETWEEN THOSE BUILDINGS AND END UP SOMEWHERE.
AND SO WE ENDED UP FENCING THAT OFF THERE'S CRASH GATES.
IT'S GOOD LOOKING AND IT KEEPS THE PUBLIC OUT DURING THE DAY.
THIS ONE TO THE RIGHT IS A SAFETY FENCE WE PUT UP.
THE TWO SCHOOLS HAVE CHANGED HOW THEY DROP OFF THEIR BUSSES AND HAVE PARENT, STUDENT PICK UP AND SO WE'VE NEVER VISUALIZED BUSSES GOING BACK THERE, SO WE HAD TO CREATE AN AREA WHERE TO KEEP THE KIDDOS FROM BOUNCING OUT.
MAN KEEPS GOING. LEWISVILLE, GYM LOCKER ROOM, THAT ROOF HAD LEAKED FOR YEARS, I'D HEARD SOME MORE. I THINK THAT WAS A BOARD PUSHED FORWARD PROJECT.
WE DID THIS ONE DURING THE COVID.
WELL, I'M NOT GOING TO SAY IT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT, DON'T DO IT.
WE WERE ABLE TO DO A LOT MORE PROJECTS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE EIGHT WEEKS IN THE SUMMER.
WE TOOK ADVANTAGE OF EMPTY SCHOOLS.
THAT'S THE ONLY WAY WE COULD HAVE GOT ALL THIS WORK DONE.
SO WE DID THAT A LITTLE BIT EARLIER IN THE SPRING.
GREAT LITTLE ROOF. GRADUATIONS.
SO I JUST REALLY LIKE TO THANK ALL OF THESE GUYS AGAIN FOR THEIR HELP, BUT THE GRADUATION BETWEEN SETTING UP THE CHAIRS AND EVERY NIGHT EVERY GRADUATION WANTED A
[00:30:04]
CUSTOM STAGE, SO WE HAD TO TAKE DOWN THOSE ORNAMENTS, PUT UP THESE ORNAMENTS, THESE PROPS, THAT'S KIND OF COOL.I FINALLY FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO A PANORAMIC PICTURE WITH MY IPHONE, SO I STOOD RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STADIUM AND JUST TOOK ALL THAT IN.
IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY, BUT IT KIND OF SHOWS ALL THE NEW BLEACHERS WE PUT IN AND THEN SHOWED THAT SEATING ARRANGEMENT AND THE STAGE YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THAT LOOKED LIKE, BUT IT TOOK A LOT OF COORDINATION TO PULL THAT OFF AND JUST CAN'T THANK JOSH IS THE ONE WHO MADE ALL OF THOSE LAYOUTS.
EVERY CHAIR IS THERE BECAUSE OF JOSH.
AND THEN JOSH AND I BEING THE OCDS WE ARE STRAIGHTENING THAT OUT EVERY NIGHT AND CUSTODIANS, YOU KNOW, WE GET RAIN AND THE CUSTODIANS AND WOULD GO OUT THERE AND EMPTY THOSE CHAIRS OFF JUST BEFORE THE ACTIVITY.
DRY THEM ALL DOWN, COLLECT ALL THOSE TOWELS.
AND I HOPE IT'S EASIER THIS YEAR ON THE SEPARATION PART OF IT, THE PEOPLE, THIS WAS JUST I JUST TOOK A, POWERPOINT DOESN'T REALLY LIKE EXCEL SPREADSHEET, I'VE LEARNED. BUT THOSE ARE THE PROJECTS WE GOT DONE.
STARTING UP AT DISTRICTWIDE, I'VE TALKED ABOUT THEM ALL, SO.
AND YOU'LL PROBABLY PUT THIS ON THE WEBSITE, SO IT'LL BE ON THE WEBSITE.
SO BEFORE WE MOVE INTO AND ARE WE GOING TO FORTY FIVE? YEAH, BEFORE WE MOVE INTO OUR NEXT DISCUSSION, ANY QUESTIONS ON ANY SPECIFIC PROJECTS OR ANY COMMENTS OR THOUGHTS? AND IF NOT, THAT'S FINE.
I'LL JUST SAY IT'S A LOT OF WORK IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME, AND THE DISTRICT DEFINITELY LOOKS BETTER FOR IT AND I APPRECIATE ALL THE HARD WORK THAT WENT INTO IT.
WELL, THANK YOU FOR THAT. I WOULD SECOND THAT AS WELL, I WAS JUST THINKING, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY. IT'S JUST AMAZING.
THAT WAS A LOT OF WORK. IT WAS.
NO, I WANT TO GO BACK TO THE POWERPOINT THERE WAS THREE SLIDES AT THE END OF THAT.
YEAH. SO AS WE ARE ALL AWARE, OUR PURCHASE ATTEMPT OF A COUPLE OF YEARS OR CAM SITE HAS NOT GONE THROUGH THE DEAL HAS NOT CLOSED.
WE'RE NOT GOING TO GET IT. WE NEED TO START.
WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE WE'RE GOING TO PUT THEM.
CONVERSATIONS ABOUT MAPLE GROVE SPLITTING BETWEEN CAPTAIN AND CHIEF.
AND THEN ANOTHER THOUGHT JUST CAME TO MIND OF WHAT IF WE WITH THAT NEW ROAD COMING IN THE BACK SIDE HERE, THAT'S GOING TO COME AROUND THIS BUILDING.
IT'S GOING TO DESTROY THAT SOCCER FIELD OVER HERE THAT WE HAVE WHERE THE HIGH SCHOOL PLAYS. SO AND IT JUST IN ANTICIPATION OF THAT BEING REPLACED SOMEWHERE, WE SAID, WELL, WHAT IF AND WHAT IF WE PUT THE CAM ACADEMY ON THE FIELD AND UTILIZE THE PARKING LOT, A MILLION DOLLAR PARKING LOT, I DON'T HAVE TO BUILD.
SO OF COURSE, WE'VE HEARD ABOUT HOW TOUGH IT IS TO USE THIS BUILDING, THIS SPECIFIC SITE, LEWISVILLE FOR EDUCATION, WE ALL KNOW WE CAN'T DO THAT.
THEY WILL ALLOW A VERY SHORT TERM OF WHAT I CALL UN-SURPLUSED OR WE CAN HAVE EDUCATION.
IT'S VERY COMMON WHEN SCHOOLS ARE RUNNING BONDS, THE OSPI WILL ALLOW THEM TO USE A SCHOOL AS WHAT THEY CALL A SWING SCHOOL.
UNTIL THAT ONE'S DONE, YOU CAN STAY IN THIS ONE OR IF YOU'RE BUILDING SEVEN AND YOU NEED TWO INTO THIS ONE.
SO OSPI WOULD ALLOW US TO DO A ONE TO TWO YEAR AVAILABLE USE OF THIS CAMPUS, AND LET'S GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE. SO LET'S GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, ACTUALLY.
SO THIS IS WE JUST STARTED TO THINK ABOUT, WELL, WHAT IFS, WE'RE SITTING, I'M STANDING RIGHT THERE AT THE C BUILDING.
THIS IS OUR PROFESSIONAL USE NUTRITION SERVICES, PRINT SHOP RESOURCES, COMMUNITY ED, SO AND THE GYM, OF COURSE, AND BUILDING B, WHICH IS I DIDN'T EVEN TOUCH IT.
[00:35:08]
YEAH. YOU CAN JUST GET CLOSE.SO THERE'S ACTUALLY NINE CLASSROOMS AVAILABLE RIGHT THERE.
WE HAVE AN ADMIN AREA HERE AND IN DISCUSSIONS WITH MR. WATERS. IF I WAS ABLE TO GET A 10 PLEX IN HERE BEFORE THE START OF NEXT SCHOOL YEAR, WE COULD HOUSE CAM HERE TEMPORARILY.
IF I TRY TO GO TO DO ALL THREE BUILDINGS AT ONCE, IT'S A VERY DIFFERENT PROCESS IT'S TYPE TWO, WHICH WILL TAKE ME MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS.
I'M ON MONTH EIGHT FOR MY PLACE, YET IN AMBOY PLAY SHED.
SO I DON'T KNOW IF I COULD GET THAT DONE, BUT IF WE WERE TO ABLE TO PUT SOME BUDGET AND SOME EFFORT INTO THE B BUILDING HAVE NINE CLASSROOMS THERE.
AND IF WE WERE TO GET ANOTHER 10 PLEX OUT IN THE FIELD WHERE IT WOULD EVENTUALLY BE.
I'VE GOT 19 AND AN AREA FOR ADMIN AND A PARKING LOT.
I HAVE A MEETING TOMORROW AT 11:30 WITH THE CITY TO DISCUSS THIS PLAN AND IN MORE THOROUGH TERMS CONCEPTS.
BUT IT'S A SOLUTION WE'VE LOOKED AT.
COULD YOU GO BACK TO THAT? THE OTHER ONE? SO THIS IS JUST SOME OF JOSH'S MAGIC.
HE GOES ON GOOGLE MAPS, AND AGAIN, WE'RE RIGHT HERE.
IF WE WERE TO USE THIS BUILDING, THIS BUILDING AND THE PARKING LOT AND I'M ALREADY DOING STUDIES ON THIS OF WHERE TO PUT THE ROADS.
WE ALL KNOW THIS ROAD'S COMING IN TWO TO THREE YEARS IS MY GUESS.
THAT'LL WASTE THIS GOOD, THIS BIG SOCCER FIELD WE HAD.
SO IF WE WERE TO PUT A NEW SOCCER FIELD.
IF WE GET THE CITY TO PAY US THE MONEY, MAYBE IN TURF, IT WOULD ALIGN THE SOCCER IT WOULD ALIGN THE SPORTS FIELD A LOT BETTER AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.
IT'D BE PRETTY COOL TO SIT IN THESE VISITOR BLEACHERS.
YOU COULD WATCH WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE STADIUM, WHAT'S GOING ON THIS FIELD AND TWO SOFTBALL FIELDS AT ONCE.
AND IT KIND OF PULLS IT OVER AND GIVES ME A USE FOR THAT AREA.
I JUST ASKED JOSH TO SHOW ME MAXIMUM WHAT I COULD GET.
BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, THOSE EASILY WOULD FIT FIVE 10 PLEX'S AND WE WOULD CREATE AN IN AND OUT ON THIS ONE WE'D KEEP IT A PRIVATE ROAD.
I'M PRETTY SURE I'LL TALK WITH THAT WITH THE CITY.
AND SO OUR PARENTS WHEN THIS ROAD WAS DONE COULD COME IN AND LEAVE GOING OUT THAT WAY.
SO IT'S A REAL THAT'S A 30, 40,000 FOOT LOOK AT WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW, AND I KNOW YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ON THAT.
AND THE BOARD IS AWARE OF SOME OF THE CHALLENGES.
REALLY, THE ONLY OTHER LOCATION THAT WE WERE ABLE TO CONSIDER USING WAS THE MAPLE GROVE CAMPUS, THE MAPLE GROVE RIVER HOMELINK CAMPUS.
BUT THAT HAS COME WITH CHALLENGES AS WE'VE MOVED FORWARD WITH THAT.
ONE OF THE CHALLENGES IS THAT FIELD THAT IS NORTH OF BOTH SCHOOLS HAS SOME WETLANDS DESIGNATION ON IT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS FOR US BECAUSE IT DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE WETLANDS, BUT IT DOES HAVE A WETLANDS DESIGNATION.
SO THERE'S A WHOLE BUNCH OF I'M SURE YOU'RE ALL AWARE OF THE CHALLENGES ASSOCIATED WITH WHENEVER ANYTHING IS DESIGNATED AS A WETLANDS.
ALSO, BECAUSE OF THAT LOCATION, BECAUSE OF THE HOUSING NEARBY, BECAUSE OF THE DEVELOPMENTS THAT'S GOING ON, WE WOULD MOST LIKELY HAVE TO DO AN INTENSIVE TRAFFIC STUDY THAT WOULD TAKE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME TO COMPLETE.
AND THEN LASTLY, THE IDEA OF ADDING ANY POPULATION TO THAT CAMPUS COMES WITH THE PROBABILITY OF US HAVING TO BUILD A ROAD BETWEEN WHAT IS NOW CHURCH OF THE ROCK AND THE MAPLE GROVE CAMPUS, WHICH WOULD ALSO ADD A HIGH LEVEL OF COST TO THE PROJECT.
SO WHAT WE DO FIND IS THAT IN THIS PARTICULAR SCENARIO, NUMBER ONE, IS THAT BY GETTING THE INFORMATION THAT WE JUST RECENTLY GOT AND KEVIN HAD TO DO A LOT OF TALKING TO OSPI TO FIND OUT, WELL, OH, YOU CAN USE A SURPLUS CAMPUS ON A CONDITIONAL BASIS OVER CERTAIN SITUATIONS AND EMERGENCIES.
SO WE FINALLY GOT CLARIFICATION FROM OSPI THAT, YES, THAT OUR SITUATION WITH CAM WOULD FIT INTO THAT EMERGENCY CIRCUMSTANCE AND WOULD ALLOW US TO ACCESS LEWISVILLE AND HAVE STUDENTS ON HERE FOR A PERIOD OF ONE OR TWO YEARS.
WHAT THAT WOULD DO IS IT BUYS THIS TIME.
OUR BIGGEST CONSTRAINT ABOUT MOVING FORWARD WITH THE CAM PROJECT HAS BEEN ONE OF TIME AND
[00:40:05]
THINKING OF, OK, HOW DO WE GET THIS DONE AND READY TO OPEN BY SEPTEMBER OF NEXT YEAR? GIVEN THE SLOWDOWN IN THE CITY AND THE COUNTIES, BUILDING PROCESSES AS ASSOCIATED WITH PERMITS AND STUDIES AND ALL OF THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.SO THIS IS A SOLUTION AND I'M NOT, YOU KNOW, I KNOW THAT WE NEED TO HAVE FURTHER DISCUSSIONS WITH THE BOARD SPECIFICALLY AROUND WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE LEVY IS GOING TO BE A CONSIDERATION.
AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT A COST BREAKDOWN MIGHT BE AND WE'RE WORKING ON ALL OF THOSE THINGS.
KEVIN IS WORKING ON THAT, BUT IT DOES GIVE YOU AN IDEA THAT WE BELIEVE WE HAVE FOUND A PATH FORWARD.
IF THAT IS A DIRECTION THE BOARD WOULD LIKE TO MOVE IN.
SO THIS IS JUST TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE AND TO SHARE WITH YOU OUR THOUGHTS.
AND I KNOW YOU GET A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FUTURE OF CAM AS WE DO, AND IT'S NICE THAT WE ACTUALLY AT LEAST HAVE A WAY FORWARD HERE.
AND KNOWING THE WHOLE TIME ISSUE WAS CREATED FROM A DEAL FALLING APART IN JUNE.
WE ANTICIPATED HAVING THAT BUILDING.
SO THAT'S THE TIME CRUNCH, AND AS I SAY, PERMITTING AND TO BE QUITE HONEST, THE MAPLE GROVE CAMPUS IS PRETTY CROWDED AS WE SPEAK.
SO IT'S JUST ANOTHER THOUGHT THAT COULD RESOLVE SOME ISSUES FOR US.
AND KEVIN, DID YOU WANT TO TALK YOUR PLANS ARE, YOU'RE GOING TO DO THAT, OK MOVING FORWARD.
ARE YOU MOVING ON YES. DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS YEAH VERY HIGH LEVEL THINKING.
SO THIS YEAR, KNOWING THAT THE LEVY'S COMING UP AND AND IN THE INTEREST OF DENNY AND I TALKING AND REALLY LOOKING TO MINIMIZE OUR SPENDING.
AND SO WHAT WE'RE GOING TO CONCENTRATE ON THIS YEAR.
USUALLY, I, YOU KNOW, I USUALLY I WOULD HAVE PUT OUT MY FIVE YEAR PLAN SHOWING YOU WHAT I PLANNED. I'M JUST NOT GOING TO DO THAT.
WE'LL FIND OUT NOVEMBER WHAT HAPPENS, BUT RIGHT NOW I'M GOING TO CONCENTRATE ON A.
SO THAT'LL BE A LOT OF WORK, JUST THE RESOLUTION OF THE CAM.
THEN WE'LL BE FINISHING UP ABOUT [INAUDIBLE] ON HIGH SCHOOL CARPET.
AS WELL AS THE ROOF ON THAT BUILDING, SO THOSE TWO AREN'T DONE SO, BUT THOSE WILL COME OUT OF LAST YEAR'S BUDGET.
SO WE'RE GOING TO REALLY JUST CONCENTRATE ON EMERGENT ISSUES, AND IF WE START TO DO WORK HERE AT LEWISVILLE, I CAN SPEND QUITE A BIT OF MONEY ON THAT.
SO RIGHT NOW I DON'T HAVE A FIVE YEAR PLAN TO GIVE YOU.
WE CAN DO IT MAYBE CHRISTMAS BREAK WHEN WE KNOW SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
I'VE GOT SOME LARGER PROJECTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY PERMITTED THAT I COULD DO IF THE LEVY PASSES. WELL, I WILL.
I'M ON MONTH EIGHT FOR AMBOY, BUT I'LL HAVE THAT PLAY SHED READY AND A FEW ENTRYWAYS THAT IF IF THE LEVY PASSES, I'LL GO AHEAD AND DO THAT.
BUT RIGHT NOW I'M JUST HOLDING OFF ON ENGINEERING.
YOU KNOW, I CAN SPEND 30 TO 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS BEFORE PROJECTS, EVEN OUT TO BID.
SO WE'RE GOING TO MINIMIZE OUR SPENDING.
LOOK AT WHAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE WE GET REQUESTS EVERY YEAR FOR LOTS OF PROJECTS. SO THAT'S OUR PLAN.
QUESTIONS. I THINK IT MIGHT BE USEFUL TO GET THAT LIST OF PERMITTED PROJECTS TO BE INCLUDED WITH WHAT DID HAPPEN THIS PAST SUMMER.
THAT'LL BE ALL PART OF THAT. IT'S THE LAST SLIDE.
AND THE LIST OF POTENTIAL PROJECTS, TOO, I THINK, WOULD ALSO BE USEFUL TO I'D LIKE TO JUST SHOW YOU OUR MASTER LIST WHERE WE STARTED OUT.
FIVE YEARS, THE PHASING, THE PHASE AND THE PHASE, I GOT RID OF THE YEARS THAT WERE GOING TO HAPPEN. I JUST LEFT THE BUDGET AND I DID A TO DATE STATUS.
SO ANYTHING THAT'S IN RED WAS DONE THIS YEAR.
SO YOU CAN SEE THE PROJECTS ARE GETTING FILLED IN.
[00:45:04]
CAPTAIN STRONG, A LOT OF THOSE ARE THE ENTRYWAY.SO, KEVIN, CAN I DO A QUESTION THERE? SO ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE, UNDER FACILITIES, YOU'VE GOT THREE CATEGORIES THE MAINTENANCE PLAN, THE LONG RANGE FACILITIES PLAN, THE CAPITAL FACILITIES PLAN.
THIS IS THE STATUS OF THAT ORIGINAL FIVE YEAR PLAN THEN, YEAH.
IS THAT PRETTY UP TO DATE ON THE WEBSITE? SO IF THE PUBLIC LOOKED AT THAT, THEY COULD SEE A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT YOU'RE REPORTING TO US TONIGHT. AND I WOULD SAY, NO.
OK. AND THEN HOW ABOUT LIKEWISE, FOR THE LONG RANGE AND THE CAPITAL FACILITIES, I NOTICED THE CAPITAL FACILITIES PLAN GOES ALL THE WAY BACK TO LIKE 2012 TO 2017 ONE REPORT AND THEN 17 TO 21 THE NEXT ONE.
YEAH, THERE ARE FIVE SIX YEAR INCREMENTS.
YEAH. RIGHT NOW ALL THE DISTRICTS IN THE COUNTY ARE GOING TO JOINTLY DO THEIR CAPITAL FACILITY PLANS TOGETHER AND GET THEM ALL ON TIMING IN THE SAME FORM.
SO AN UPDATED ONE WOULD LOOK LIKE THOSE ONES THAT ARE CURRENTLY THERE.
NOT THE CAPITAL FACILITY. IT'LL BE A DIFFERENT FORM.
OK. IT'LL BE ONE THAT NOW EVERY DISTRICT USES THE SAME FORM AND ATTORNEY.
BUT WE WILL UPDATE EVERYTHING ON BUT THAT WILL BE UPDATED THIS YEAR, YEAH.
YEAH, IT WAS HELPFUL FOR ME TO LOOK THROUGH IT TODAY BEFORE KNOWING I WAS COMING TO THIS AND SEE HOW THOSE HAVE PLAYED OUT IN THE PAST, BUT IT DID SEEM LIKE SOME OF THE DATA WAS MAYBE WRITTEN AT THE START OF THE CYCLE, RATHER THAN FOR THE 2021.
YEAH TO BE HONEST, I HAVEN'T BEEN ON THERE A LOT.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU, KEVIN, JOSH, KIM, JOHN, EVERYBODY INVOLVED.
ALL RIGHT. ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE WE TAKE A BREAK? THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
YEAH. HELPFUL TO GET THAT UPDATE.
OK, I'M GOING TO ADJOURN THIS SPECIAL WORK SESSION ON CAPITAL FACILITIES AND WE WILL RESUME AT ABOUT TWO MINUTES BEFORE SIX O'CLOCK.
